SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPatriots HOF WR Gushes About Difficulty Of A.J. Brown, Mack Hollins Sharing FieldPatriots HOF WR Gushes About Difficulty Of A.J. Brown, Mack Hollins Sharing Field originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New England Patriots wide receiving room quickly became one of the best in the NFL this offseason with the addition of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. But forgotten in all the luster of the two newest pieces is 32-year-old receiver Mack Hollins returning for year two in New England after the second-best season of his career. Hollins surpassed 500 yards last season for only the second time in his career. The receiver, who has been in the league since 2017, looked reborn in Foxboro. At the time of his signing, Hollins was expected to be a fringe piece of Josh McDaniels' offense. The veteran soon became one of quarterback Drake Maye's trustiest options on third down, and was instrumental in the success of the Patriots' running game. He is once again returning to bring the grit to New England's pass game, and Patriots Hall of Famer Troy Brown thinks pairing him up with A.J. Brown will cause a whole bunch of problems for opposing defenses. "Put them on the field at the same time and 'is it run or is it pass?' Sometimes you get on a team, and they don't have those options, you see who's there, and you can say, 'They're throwing the ball on this play. This guy isn't blocking anyone.' Now with A.J. and Mack, run-action could be huge for them. And Josh (McDaniels) is one of the best at creating those run-action passes, so he should be able to create a lot of things with them," Brown said. ESPN's Mike Reiss, who conducted the interview with the three-time Super Bowl champion, said that Troy Brown was infatuated with the edge Hollins brings on the field."There were times in practice when Brown (6-1, 226) and Hollins (6-4, 221) would work together on the side, which is something that piqued Troy Brown's interest as it relates to coordinator Josh McDaniels' scheming," Reiss wrote. "He calls Hollins a 'lunch pail guy' who brings 'toughness, emotion and can make the big play when you need it.'"More NFL: Troy Brown Shows Love To Forgotten Third-Rounder0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMVinicius Oliveira calls for Josh Emmett or top 12 UFC featherweightLAS VEGAS – Vinicius Oliveira is ready to test himself with the very best the UFC featherweight division has to offer."Lok Dog" called for a ranked opponent following his successful UFC featherweight debut. This past Saturday, Oliveira (23-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) bounced back from his disappointing loss to Mario Bautista by putting away veteran Andre Fili (25-14 MMA, 13-13 UFC) on the main card of UFC Fight Night 279 at the Meta Apex. It was a big statement win for Oliveira and one that he hopes can get him a big fight next."I think to start in this division, if UFC could give me the top 12 that I was, the point that I was in my division when I was a bantamweight, I was top 12," Oliveira said at the UFC Fight Night 279 post-fight press conference. "I mean, to be honest, I don't know who is the top 12 in this division, but if (UFC) can give me a top 12, I'd be so glad of that. If not, (UFC) can give me Josh Emmett."Oliveira was on a four-fight winning streak before getting his first UFC main event spot against Bautista in February. Many thought he was bound to be a title contender at 135 pounds, but the Brazilian looked flat against Bautista. He attributes his bad performance to extreme weight cutting – which he won't have to deal with now fighting at 145 pounds."I felt strong during the fight. I didn't get tired," Oliveira said. "I didn't get weak. So in my former division, bantamweight, people usually say, 'Ah, 'Lok Dog' are weak, guys. He always get tired.' But now I can prove that I fixed some things in my weight, and now I don't get more tired. I'm feeling good. That's my division."Apart from feeling much better in the cage, Oliveira expects to be more active now. The weight cuts down to 135 pounds required time and too much from his body, not allowing him to be active."Now I can fight more often inside this division," Oliveira said. "I just need to take care of my injury. So in bantamweight, I just can fight once or twice, maybe three (times a year). But this is too much because I need to lose 23 kilos. Now, I can fight often, like three or four fights a year."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Vinicius Oliveira calls for Josh Emmett or top 12 UFC featherweight0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWWE is considering an event on White House lawn after UFC Freedom 250 successPhoto by Erica Denhoff/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThere’s already talk that another major sporting event could soon be heading to the South Lawn of the White House.Just last Sunday, UFC Freedom 250 took place in that very spot, and there’s no question it was one of the most highly anticipated cards in recent memory. It more than delivered, too.Despite Dana White making it clear at the time that something like this wouldn’t happen again, discussions have already started about what might come next. After such an incredibly successful event, Joe Rogan made a huge claim that it garnered 150 million viewers.Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesWWE is discussing a possible White House eventRogan’s number turned out to be far from accurate, though, with the official count closer to 17 million. Even so, that’s still a massive audience and has sparked interest from other corners of the sports world. The UFC’s sister company, WWE, is now exploring the idea of hosting its own event on the South Lawn. Both organisations fall under TKO Group Holdings, which is reportedly testing out whether WWE could replicate UFC’s success at Freedom 250.A big factor in UFC landing their spot at the White House was Donald Trump’s support for MMA and his ties to Dana White. But there’s more than one link here. Trump also has a history with WWE. He appeared at WrestleMania 23 in a ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ match against then-CEO Vince McMahon back in 2007 – a nod to his ongoing connection with wrestling as well as MMA.Read more:Former WWE champion claims Vince McMahon is one of the ‘greatest stories’ in American historyMajor WWE SummerSlam update emerges amid safety fears at the US Bank StadiumHow WWE insiders really feel about the Bloodline 2.0 story with Jacob Fatu0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

Riley Greene led off the bottom of the inning with a single off Brandon Eisert (1-1) to put runners on the corners. Spencer Torkelson’s base hit tied the game. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBring on Neymar - Hendry relishing prospect of facing BrazilJack Hendry came up against Neymar playing for Club Brugge [Getty Images]Jack Hendry says he'll "look forward to" coming up against Neymar should Brazil's superstar forward make his first appearance of this World Cup on Wednesday - and the Scotland centre-half believes his previous experience of playing against him will stand him in good stead. The Santos 34-year-old, who has scored 79 goals in 128 appearances for Brazil, has not played for the five-time champions at this tournament due to the calf injury, but head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he is fit to play against Scotland in Miami on Wednesday. And Al-Ettifaq 31-year-old Hendry insists he will be ready for the challenge."I'll have no problem," he said. "Obviously he was out in the league I was in. I'm quite comfortable coming up against Neymar. It should there be a really good battle and if he does play then I'll look forward to it."Obviously I think he got injured out in Saudi, he did get his ACL, which was unfortunate. I would have loved to have played against him more."Hendry also faced Neymar while he was playing for Club Brugge in season."I played against him twice I think in the Champions League when he was at Paris Saint-Germain, so that was good test," he recalled. "Obviously the front three at that time were with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. That's not a bad front three, so it was a good experience and l learn a lot from playing against those top-calibre players, so I look forward to it."You need to concentrate throughout the game playing against these calibre of players because, the second you switch off, they can punish you."Brazil have got an amazing history and we obviously want to disrupt that on Wednesday and I think, if there's a nation to play to get to the next round, we want to do it against these type of teams, so it's going to be a great spectacle."0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFor Niemann, it's 71 solid holes, one thrown club and maybe a return trip for next year's US OpenSOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — The U.S. Open summary for Joaquin Niemann looks like this: 71 holes of solid golf, one really bad one, a thrown club, a two-shot penalty and the willpower to not spend too much time wondering about what might have been.“If my grandmother had tires, she'd be a car,” Niemann said Sunday, after wrapping up a tournament sullied by an opening-round 11 on the par-4 sixth hole that featured two tee shots out of bounds and two penalty strokes for hurling his club in frustration.Niemann shot 4-under 66 in the final round to finish at 1-over 281. It doesn't take heavy math to imagine the possibilities had he not shot 7-over par on one hole. More urgently, when he left the course, his 281 put him in a tie for seventh, which would earn him the invitation for next year that goes to the the top-10 finishers and ties. His 66 paired with a 65 he shot in the second round, shortly after learning his 9 on No. 6 had been bumped up two shots for violating the code of conduct. It meant Niemann was a good bet to tie for the two best rounds of the tournament along with recording the single worst one-hole score of the four rounds.“A good experience, a good test for myself," he said. "What happened on Thursday and coming back, I was pretty proud of” myself.Niemann didn't try to deflect blame or suggest he didn't deserve the two-shot penalty for chucking the club after the two errant tee shots, then being rejected when he asked for relief from what he thought might be fire ants.Play was called for the day shortly after that. Niemann completed his first round Friday morning, then learned about the penalty.“I was not trying to offend anyone,” he said. “I was frustrated. I had my expectations, which are always super high. I was playing good golf. I knew it was going to be a tough week, a long week, a challenging week. ... I’m not happy doing that. I’m not proud about throwing a golf club.”He did not want to delve into the debate about whether the USGA was too aggressive in docking him the two shots. Even though the course was virtually empty at the time, he did, in fact, throw the club.He called his comeback story “something to learn from.”Asked if there were lessons to be learned from his odyssey around Shinnecock Hills, he said: “Everyone just stop throwing clubs. Just behave.”___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLeeds United Have Made A £20m+ For Championship Player: Why Farke Needs Him?Leeds United Have Made A £20m+ For Championship Player: Why Farke Needs Him?Leeds United have made a sudden, aggressive move to pry midfielder Shea Charles away from Southampton. According to the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones, the West Yorkshire club have launched an official bid exceeding £20 million for the 22-year-old Northern Ireland international.Leeds launch £20m+ raid for Southampton star Shea CharlesThe timing is calculated. Southampton are currently reeling from a chaotic administrative relegation after a major spying scandal involving 3 league opponents. Failing to reach the Premier League has shattered the South Coast club’s financial leverage, and Leeds intend to take full advantage. Fresh off a comfortable 14th-place finish in the top flight, Elland Road chiefs smell blood. They want this deal wrapped up quickly.Charles joined the Saints from Manchester City in 2023 for an initial £10.5m. Since then, his trajectory has been steep. 76 senior appearances for his parent club, alongside a stellar loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday that yielded a Player of the Year award, have seen his stock soar. Leeds view the young defensive midfielder as a foundational signing for their central ranks, possessing immense resale value. Why is Daniel Farke desperate for the midfielder?COLOGNE, GERMANY – SEPTEMBER 07: Shea Charles of Northern Ireland during the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match between Germany and Northern Ireland at RheinEnergieStadion on September 07, 2025 in Cologne, Germany. (Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images)Daniel Farke needs a physical presence to anchor his engine room. Standing at a commanding 6ft 2in, Charles offers the exact tactical flexibility Leeds lacked last season. He protects the backline, stays calm under pressure, and can pick out a progressive pass. He has also added goals to his game. 6 times he found the net last term, including a dramatic late winner against Arsenal in the FA Cup.He is exactly what Leeds United missed during the heavy transition phases last year. Elite Premier League counter-attacks routinely carved Farke’s central setup apart. Charles fixes that. He slots effortlessly into a double-pivot system, dropping between the centre-backs to orchestrate play from deep or stepping up to crush opposition counters before they gather momentum.International football has already proven he can handle the heat. His magnificent performance against France, capped off with a brilliant assist, showed a maturity well beyond his 22 years. Snagging an energetic, tactically sharp operator for just north of £20m is superb business for a developing side.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

There was disappointment for Wales' fastest woman, Hannah Brier, who missed out on a place in the 200m final after finishing third in her semi-final.Hunt and Glave win British 100m titlesTeam Wales named for Glasgow Commonwealth GamesThe first medal of the day went to Bethan Davies, who claimed her eighth UK title in the 5000m race walk - and her first since giving birth to daughter in 2024."It's really special to become champion again. After having my baby I really missed athletics and I've been working really hard to come back," said Davies."It's tough, there's a lot I'm balancing at the moment and I was pleasantly surprised with how today went."Guy Thomas won silver in the men's event.Issy Boffey continued her impressive season by taking a silver medal in the 800m, finishing behind Georgia Hunter-Bell who ran 1:55.93 to beat Kelly Holmes' Championship record."I'm so happy, this is only my second race of the season and it was a big step up from the last time I raced," said Boffey."This is the best I've ever done at the British champs, I've also qualified for the Europeans, so now it's going to be two champs in one summer, it's going to be great."In the men's 1500m, Jake Heyward finished second behind Arlo Ludewick with a time of 3:38.97."It's bittersweet really, I came here to win but came up just a little bit short. But in the bigger picture it's my first time here in four years so it's incredible just to be able to put a pair of spikes on, be healthy and challenge for the win," said Heyward after having surgery on both his Achilles. In the field events, Hannah Lake won silver in the high jump with 1.78m, while Thomas Walley won silver in the men's pole vault, clearing 5.30m, just shy of his 5.35m PB."It was a proper scrap out there," said Walley, who will be competing at his first Commonwealth Games next month in Glasgow."This is my first silver, I've had three bronzes, so I'm really happy. It's a big step in the right direction. I'm having great shots at the higher heights that I know that I've got in me."0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMInsider Reports $8.1Bn Franchise Is Unlikely To Pursue Brendan SorsbyBrendan Sorsby © Imagn.Brendan Sorsby’s future is now in the hands of the NFL franchises, as he decided to drop his case for eligibility against the NCAA last week. Instead of trying to overcome his lifetime ban from college athletics, the signal-caller will now enter the NFL supplemental draft.Whether or not he will attract the interest of any NFL teams remains to be seen. However, according to insider Rich Cimini, at least one team isn’t at all interested in his services. Even while the New York Jets (worth $8.1 billion, according to Forbes) are looking for a new starting quarterback, they aren’t interested in recruiting Sorsby due to his betting scandal.“They don’t want to deal to deal with it,” said ESPN’s Rich Cimini via NFLSleeper. The Jets did select one quarterback during the 2026 NFL draft, as they took Clemson’s Cade Klubnik in the fourth round with the 110th overall pick.Unlike the Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns are reportedly interested in getting Sorsby. In which round is it expected that Brendan Sorsby will be picked?According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, it’s very unlikely that a team will spend a first-round draft pick on Sorsby during the supplemental draft. The only candidates, according to the reporter, who could do this are the Jets and Browns because they have multiple first-round picks. However, speaking on SportsCenter on Sunday, he also floated two unlikely candidates: the Eagles and the Buccaneers. Fowler said:“You typically don’t see first-round picks in the supplemental draft; it’s a lot to give up. Now, you have the usual suspects, like the New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns, who have multiple first-round picks to play with. Do they get involved? I’m also looking at some sleepers, teams that have an established quarterback but could use somebody a year or two down the road, like Philadelphia, Tampa Bay with their Baker Mayfield contract situation. So, there are a lot of teams that are intrigued. There’s going to be some action here in the next month for sure.”As a reminder, the NFL supplemental draft works differently from the main event. Teams will place bets, blindly, with their draft picks from next year. The team that places the bet with the highest draft pick will get the player.Read More:‘We Were Nervous’: Madison Beer Explains Decision Behind First Date Venue With Chargers Star Justin Herbert“Holy Overpay”: NFL World Reacts As Titans Splurge Over $105M On DT Jeffery SimmonsCollege Sports Network has you covered with the latest news, analysis, insights, and trending stories in tennis, college football, men’s college basketball, women’s college basketball, and college baseball!0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

I need to get to work."Williams has not won a singles match at Wimbledon since 2019, when she lost in the final to Romania's Simona Halep. She spent 319 weeks at the top of the world rankings and has won 73 singles titles on the WTA Tour during an illustrious career. She has also completed a career 'Golden Slam' in singles and doubles - winning all four Grand Slams and Olympic gold - and won every singles major at least three times.Williams will discover her first-round opponent when the draw takes place on Friday, with the tournament getting under way on Monday, 29 June.Williams rolls back the years on return at Queen'sWilliams sisters receive Wimbledon doubles wildcard'Who knows where I'll pop up?'Williams won her first Wimbledon singles title in 2002 - beating sister Venus in the final - and repeated the feat a year later. She won again in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016 - with her seventh triumph meaning she equalled Steffi Graf's Open era record of 22 major singles titles. After taking maternity leave in 2017, she reached the final on her next two Wimbledon appearances, but lost in straight sets to Angelique Kerber and Halep. Her 2021 campaign ended after just six games as she retired injured against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and there were doubts she would return.Given a wildcard in 2022, she was two points from victory against Harmony Tan before being edged out in a final-set tie-break.Asked afterwards if that would be her final Wimbledon appearance, Williams said: "That's a question I can't answer. Who knows? Who knows where I'll pop up?"Williams has won 14 titles at Wimbledon, with six women's doubles and one mixed doubles among her tally. She also won Olympic singles and doubles gold on the same courts at the 2012 London Olympics.Williams has won 107 of her 123 singles matches on grass courts, and it is the surface she has the best record on with an 87% win-rate.View this post on InstagramWilliams played what was widely expected to be the final match of her career at the 2022 US Open before "evolving away" from the sport. But refusing to use the word 'retirement' always left the door ajar for a return. She said the main motivation for her comeback was the prospect of her two daughters seeing her play.Williams won the Australian Open while pregnant with eldest daughter Olympia and gave birth to her second child, Adira, in 2023.Her daughters watched from the stands as their mother won the first doubles match of her return at Queen's alongside Victoria Mboko. However, the pair had to withdraw from the tournament when Canadian teenager Mboko injured her knee in the singles.Former world number one Williams then entered the doubles in Berlin, where she lost alongside Czech Karolina Muchova in their first-round match on Tuesday.Afterwards, Williams remained coy when asked about the prospect of playing singles at Wimbledon, but returned to London the following day and started practising at SW19 on Thursday. How Sunday session convinced Williams time was right - analysisAfter her second doubles match in Berlin last week, Williams said she felt more nimble, sturdy and speedy - and a practice session on Sunday persuaded her the time was right for a singles return.A singles comeback always seemed likely once she had committed herself to all the training, travelling and drug testing required of a professional athlete. That it has come so soon is more surprising. Even as a seven-time singles champion, it is bold to make your return at Wimbledon having not played a singles match for nearly four years.Williams' last Grand Slam title was nine years ago, and as an unranked player she could face one of the top seeds in the first round.Martina Navratilova may, perhaps, prove an inspiration. She won a Grand Slam doubles title a month shy of her 50th birthday, and a singles match at Wimbledon at the age of 47.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGuardians Drop Series to AstrosHOUSTON, TX - JUNE 21: Cleveland Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana (37), hitting with a blue bat in honor of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Day, hits a foul ball in the top of the fifth inning during the MLB game between the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros on June 21, 2026 at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Leslie Plaza Johnson/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The Cleveland Guardians drop both this series and the season series against the Houston Astros in another one run loss. Slade Cecconi fell to 3-6 with today’s loss. Both Astro’s runs came off of Cecconi in his 6.0 innings of work. Yordan Alvarez hit a home run in his first at bat in the first inning. In the bottom of the fourth, things got dicey for Cecconi. He allowed a lead off walk and back-to-back singles to account for the second Houston run. He got out of the inning and worked two more relatively calm innings, earning himself a quality start. Colin Holderman and Hunter Gaddis both pitched clean innings of relief, both striking out one. Hunter Gaddis did give up a single, but otherwise had a solid outing. The Guardians offense only recorded four hits and two walks the entire game. Bazzana continued to solidify his position as the lead off hitter with a lead off single on the third pitch of the game. Brayan Rocchio hit a one-out single to follow Bazz’s hit and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. However, with two-outs, both runners were left in scoring position. In the top of the fifth, Petey Halpin hit a one-out triple to get into scoring position as the batting order turned over to the top. Your browser does not support the video tag. Travis Bazzana hit into a ground out to second, allowing Petey to score in the process for the Guardians sole run. The Guardians are floating four games above .500 despite the three injuries that are haunting this line up. They have a 1.0 game lead on the White Sox, who got swept by the Tigers in Detroit this weekend. This next series, in Chicago against the White Sox could be a do or die series for the Guardians. Here’s to hoping Travis Bazzana, Brayan Rocchio, and Kyle Manzardo have what it takes to prop up this offense.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBelgium held 0-0 by Iran as Ngoy sent offDisaster struck for Belgium as Nathan Ngoy was sent off (Etienne Laurent)Belgium were held to a scoreless draw by Iran in a frustrating encounter Sunday that saw the Red Devils reduced to 10 men and facing the possibility of group-stage elimination for a second straight World Cup.A star-studded though ageing lineup including Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku was if anything fortunate to leave Los Angeles with a point, controlling possession yet ceding the game's best chances to a resolute Iran team.Iran's Mehdi Taremi had the ball in the net from a well-worked first-half free kick that was overturned for offside by VAR, while Nathan Ngoy was sent off after the break for hauling down the striker after a badly mis-hit backpass. The result means all three games so far in Group G have ended in draws. Stuck on two points, Belgium at least have the comfort of playing the tournament's lowest-ranked team, New Zealand, in their final group game.Iran will also need at least a point against Egypt next Friday. Having been frustrated by visa issues as they travel from their base camp in Mexico to games in the US, Team Melli will hope to focus on the football as travel restrictions are reportedly eased for their crucial trip to Seattle. For the second Iran game running, protesters from Los Angeles' large Persian exile community gathered at the stadium to chant against the country's hardline regime.Inside the stadium, Iran's anthem again drew a chorus of boos and whistles -- a reception at odds with the response to the players themselves, who were loudly cheered.Having switched to a back five, Iran sat deep in the first half, allowing Belgium to dominate possession and to play hundreds of passes around their penalty area without creating any clear-cut opportunities.Target man Lukaku, back in the starting lineup after making an impact from the bench in Belgium's 1-1 draw with Egpyt, managed a solitary headed effort in the 36th minute, which sailed over the bar.Iran had the first half's two best chances, entirely against the run of play. Hossein Kanani's low shot after a long throw was well saved by an outstretched Thibaut Courtois. And Iran's star striker Taremi had the ball in the net midway through the half after a cleverly worked free kick, but it was ruled offside. The former Inter Milan man span away from Belgium's wall, swiveled and buried the ball, before VAR overruled the effort, to the dismay of a vocally pro-Iran crowd. After the break, Belgium continued to huff and puff while Taremi again nearly scored at the other end. Courtois did well to save after Kanani had flicked on a long throw to the Iran forward.Belgium coach Rudi Garcia made a triple substitution around the hour mark and his side immediately came close, Maxim De Cuyper's point-blank effort from De Bruyne's cut-back well saved. Substitute Hans Vanaken blasted a shot from a rebound well over the bar moments later, as the Red Devils finally began to knock on Iran's door in earnest. But disaster struck for Belgium as Ngoy was sent off. The center-back had badly underhit a pass back to Courtois, and raised his arm into Taremi as the striker raced through on goal. The game settled into a nervous, scrappy stalemate, though De Cuyper again came close with a low effort from just outside the box.amz/rcw0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPSG Prepare A £43M Bid For West Ham’s In Form Player: What Should Be The Only Option For The Hammers?PSG Prepare A £43M Bid For West Ham’s In Form Player: What Should Be The Only Option For The Hammers?Manchester United want Crysencio Summerville. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, the Red Devils are willing to pay up to £50 million for the electric Dutch winger, viewing the 24-year-old as the perfect direct replacement for Marcus Rashford on the left flank. They need urgency. He has it.West Ham demand £50m for star man as European heavyweights are interestedThe queue does not end at Old Trafford. Paris Saint-Germain are clearing the decks for a competing £43 million bid to tempt him across the Channel. Roma, Napoli, AC Milan, and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs. This explosion of continental interest comes down to one thing: the winger is absolutely shining for the Netherlands at the ongoing World Cup.Dropping into the Championship on the final day of the season completely wrecked West Ham’s position. Everyone knows they are vulnerable. Relegation forces hands, and reports suggest his actual price could easily slide to between £30 million and £40 million because of that financial hit. Clubs smell blood. Why holding firm for a bidding war is the only option for West Ham?LONDON, ENGLAND – MAY 24: Crysencio Summerville of West Ham United during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leeds United at London Stadium on May 24, 2026 in London, England. (Photo by Richard Pelham/Getty Images)Selling your best asset after going down is a bitter pill. Doing it on the cheap? Madness. The board must block out the noise regarding that supposed £30 million discount. By shining for the Oranje this summer, Summerville is doing the hard work for them, inflating his own value with every single game.Nuno Espirito Santo faces a massive squad rebuild if he wants to guarantee an immediate Premier League return. Finding the cash for that requires ruthless negotiation. Cracking early and accepting the first decent bid that lands on the table would be a disaster. Thankfully, the sheer volume of interest gives the Hammers a lifeline. They must draw a line at £50 million plus add-ons. No less. If Manchester United view him as the answer to their Rashford problem, let them pay the premium. Giving elite European suitors an easy ride just because you are a Championship side is a terrible look. Force a bidding war, milk every penny before August, and spend the windfall on a tough spine.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrankfurt star subbed in as Belgium hang on to draw vs. IranFrankfurt star subbed in as Belgium hang on to draw vs. IranBelgium's World Cup campaign suffered another setback on Sunday as they were held to a draw by Iran in a match that could easily have ended in defeat for the European side.Despite boasting a squad packed with international experience, Belgium struggled to impose themselves and were repeatedly exposed by Iran's quick transitions and organised attacking play.Iran thought they had taken a deserved lead through a brilliantly worked free-kick routine. Mehdi Taremi applied the finishing touch, sparking wild celebrations among the Iranian players and supporters. However, those celebrations were cut short when VAR confirmed that Taremi had been in an offside position, leading to the goal being ruled out.The warning signs were there for Belgium, who continued to look vulnerable defensively despite controlling possession for large periods. While the Red Devils attempted to rely on their attacking quality, Iran remained the more threatening side whenever space opened up on the counter-attack.The turning point arrived in the 66th minute. As Iran launched another dangerous break, Belgian defender Ngoy hauled down Taremi to prevent the striker from racing clear on goal. The referee had little hesitation in producing a straight red card, reducing Belgium to ten men for the remainder of the contest. With his side suddenly under severe pressure, Belgium coach Rudi Garcia moved quickly to shore up the defence. Bundesliga and Eintracht Frankfurt star Arthur Theate was introduced in place of Romelu Lukaku, sacrificing attacking firepower in favour of greater defensive stability. The switch helped Belgium withstand the Iranian pressure, although Iran continued to push forward in search of a winner. Despite their numerical advantage and several promising situations, they were unable to find the decisive breakthrough. In the end, the points were shared, but the result will likely feel more disappointing for Iran than Belgium given the balance of play. The draw leaves both nations on two points heading into the final group-stage matches, ensuring a thrilling conclusion to Group G. With qualification for the knockout stages still up for grabs, everything remains to play for on the final matchday.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrance's Mbappé is having a record-setting World Cup, other marks could fall as Les Bleus advancePHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kylian Mbappé passed Pelé on the World Cup goal-scoring list and inched closer to setting the overall goal record for the tournament. And, Mbappé also set France’s national team goal-scoring record. All that in just his first World Cup game of this tournament.Stopping the 2022 Golden Boot trophy winner seems almost impossible. Iraq coach Graham Arnold — tasked with slowing down Mbappé and the 2022 World Cup finalist France on Monday in the second Group I match — had an idea that might have worked.“I asked if we could play three goalkeepers,” Arnold said with a laugh on Sunday. “But they said no.”The 27-year-old Mbappé, who stars for Real Madrid, has another milestone to hit against Iraq before his powerful foot takes a single kick. Already playing in his third World Cup and a champion in 2018, Mbappé will play his 100th international game for France.“It's always a pleasure to be able to play on the national team,” Mbappé said at a jam-packed press conference inside the locker room of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. “There's nothing bigger than the national team. One hundred, that's historic. All the more when it's the World Cup.”He could overtake coach and former captain Didier Deschamps (103 appearances as a midfielder) if France goes deep at this tournament. Barring injury, Mbappé could go on to overtake goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ record of 145 appearances for Les Bleus.Mbappé, one of two men to have a hat trick in a World Cup final, scored his 13th and 14th World Cup goals in France’s 3-1 tournament-opening victory against Senegal. Those were his 57th and 58th playing internationally, tying and passing Oliver Giroud for the most in the country’s rich history.Mbappé’s second goal broke a tie with Pelé on the World Cup list. His 14 World Cup goals include two at this tournament; eight in 2022, where he earned the Golden Boot trophy as top scorer; and four in 2018. Mbappé is now tied with Germany’s Gerd Müller for the fourth-most in World Cup history. Mbappé is one behind Brazil’s Ronaldo and two away from the record of 16 held by Miroslav Klose of Germany and Lionel Messi, who had a hat trick for Argentina in this World Cup.With at least another decade and potentially at least two more World Cups, plus the remaining games in this event ahead of him, the debate has started to rage: Could Mbappé go down as the greatest ever World Cup player?“It's debate for the people,” Mbappé said in English. “It's debate for the journalists, debate for the fans of football. I think it's good to debate about players. See who's the best. For me, it's not a question in my head. It's just about how can I help my team tomorrow against Iraq and can I bring the trophy home in July.”Mbappé joked he won't play international games until he's 40 and did tip his cap toward Messi as the current best player in soccer. He also refused to completely rule out a move to MLS — much like Messi did with Inter Miami — and noted David Beckham, co-owner in Miami, has made a pitch for Mbappé to one day make the move to the United States. Mbappé shrugged off the suggestion with a “we'll see.”“The American culture is different,” Mbappé said. "There are no limits to ambitions, I like it”That's a potential move for well, well down the road.Mbappé helped France win the World Cup title in 2018 and reach the final in 2022, when he was awarded the Silver Ball as the second-best player. Joined up front by Désiré Doué and reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, France went into this year’s tournament as the co-favorite along with Spain.Les Blues won in 1998 and 2018, then lost the 2022 final to Argentina on penalty kicks.Much to Iraq's dismay, Mbappé only has to beat one goalkeeper and not three. Arnold said he hasn't decided on his goalkeeper for Monday after team captain Jalal Hassan allowed all four goals in Iraq's 4-1 loss to Norway.“We can’t control France’s performance, but we can control our own,” Arnold said. "And we’re making sure that the players are completely ready to go out there and show the world what they’re about.”Time to clean upIraq earned praise for throwing away trash and cleaning the rest of its locker room after its loss at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.Iraq also left a heartfelt note on the locker room message board that said, “Thank you, Boston.”“They made the mess,” Arnold said, "so then they cleaned it up. Out of respect for who we are and where we are. It was great leadership.”___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/fifa-world-cup0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 NBA mock draft: Sixers select Dailyn Swain at No. 22 overallThe 2026 NBA draft is set to begin on Tuesday with the first round and the Philadelphia 76ers hold the No. 22 pick due to the Jared McCain trade at the deadline. That selection gives new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey his first tool to begin adding to the roster in an effort to dethrone the defending champion New York Knicks. The Sixers will have a number of players to choose from in one of the deeper drafts in recent memory. Gansey and the front office have no doubt done their due diligence in an effort to nail this pick down in order to be ready for Tuesday.A mock draft performed by Bleacher Report has the Sixers going after a wing in the form of Dailyn Swain out of Texas at No. 22:With Joel Embiid and Paul George still chewing up huge chunks of the payroll, the Sixers will take all of the cost-controlled depth they can find. Reliability should be a draft focus, in other words, and Swain feels pretty likely to deliver. Now, how much he delivers will hinge on the improvements he's able to make to his shaky shot. Even without a knockdown jumper, though, he'll be helpful to have for his length, athleticism, downhill attacking, connective passing and defensive playmaking.Swain averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 54.2% from the floor and 34.4% from deep in the 2025-26 season. He also averaged 1.6 steals as he showed off his toughness on that end of the floor--a complete profile of Swain can be read here. The Sixers could always use an athletic wing who can do it all on both ends of the floor. He won't be a name many will hear leading into the draft, but Swain makes a lot of sense for Philadelphia. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: 2026 NBA mock draft: Sixers select Dailyn Swain at No. 22 overall0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

Wyatt Langford hits 3-run homer as Rangers win 4-3 to end 6-series losing streak against PadresARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Wyatt Langford hit a three-run homer, Josh Jung had a go-ahead RBI single and the Texas Rangers beat San Diego 4-3 on Sunday to end a six-series losing streak against the Padres. The Rangers preserved a one-run lead over the final five innings a day after failing to hold a two-run lead late in a 6-4 loss in 10 innings. The series clincher was just the fourth victory for Texas in its past 20 meetings with San Diego.Nathan Eovaldi sparkled for five of his six innings after the Texas right-hander's start was pushed back a day because of left knee soreness. The fourth inning was a different story. Eovaldi allowed six hits and three runs right after Langford's three-run shot, which was the leadoff hitter's sixth homer of the season.Eovaldi (7-7) struck out a season-high nine, eight of those coming while he allowed just one hit and a walk in his other five innings.Peyton Gray pitched a perfect seventh, and rookie Robby Ahlstrom walked Manny Machado before getting pinch-hitter Miguel Andujar to ground into an inning-ending double play in the eighth.Jakob Junis allowed singles to pinch-hitter Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts to start the ninth before finishing for his fifth save. Closer Jacob Latz had pitched in the first two games of the series.Gavin Sheets and Bogaerts had run-scoring singles to go with Sung-Mun Song's RBI double to get the Padres even. Sheets was thrown out at home on Bogaerts' hit, which scored Machado.Nicky Lopez, Langford and Jung had three consecutive singles to put Texas back in front in the bottom of the fourth against Lucas Giolito (2-3), who allowed all four Texas runs after entering in the second inning.Up nextPadres RHP Grant Holmes (4-3, 4.33 ERA) is set for the series opener at home against Atlanta on Monday. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMU.S. Open: Multiple fans kicked out of final round for heckling Wyndham Clark, others actively cheer against himFans who made their way to Shinnecock Hills to watch the last round of the U.S. Open on Sunday afternoon were not on Wyndham Clark's side. In fact, several of them didn't even get to stick around to watch very much of the end of the major championship.Multiple fans were ejected early on Sunday afternoon for heckling Clark early on as he tired to hold onto the massive six-shot lead that he carried into the final round in New York. One fan, via Fried Egg Golf's Kevin Van Valkenburg, was thrown out for shouting "Don't choke Wyndham!" before his tee shot at the fourth.NBC confirmed on the broadcast that others were ejected for similar comments, too, including one who yelled, "Get in the bunker!" to Clark. It wasn't just heckling, either. Fans appeared to be actively cheering against Clark throughout the round. When Clark sent a bunker shot way off to the right on the fourth, fans went sprinting over to swarm his ball over the cart path while cheering loudly. Clark looked livid in the bunker realizing where he sent the ball. While he ended up saving his par in remarkable fashion, Clark faced a similar reaction at the next hole. His ball rolled right back down the hill after he tried to chip it up onto the green to his feet, and fans were clearly cheering at the blunder.Though he entered the day with a six-shot advantage, Clark's lead quickly disappeared. He ended up making the turn at 3-over on his round with just a one-shot lead. Clark won the U.S. Open back in 2023, and fans seemed to get behind that win even though it was Rory McIlroy who finished in second that year in Los Angeles. But there have been several incidents since then that have tarnished his reputation in the golf world — most notably at last year's U.S. Open. Clark was so frustrated after missing the cut at Oakmont that he kicked in two lockers that were more than a century old. The club eventually banned him until he fixed the lockers, donated to charity and more. While others in the sport have had similar outbursts or incidents, Clark's for whatever reason has stuck with him even as he's won again on the PGA Tour, climbed back up in the world rankings and largely dominated at another major championship. "I've gotten a lot of grief since last year, rightfully so. The thing that's unfortunate is that's not who I am, what happened last year," he said Friday after his round. "I'm hoping I can win back the fans that I had, or some new fans, because it was a terrible incident. You know, I really feel like I can show people that I'm fun and outgoing, I'm fierce, competitive, love the game, respect the game, and I just had a bad moment. "Hopefully I can win those people back."If Sunday's reaction is any indication, Clark still has a long way to go on that front. Hanging on to win a second career major championship, if he can pull it off, would certainly be a start.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Indiana Fever could use some positive news after back-to-back losses to the Atlanta Dream, and they received exactly that on Sunday. According to the Fever's latest injury report, star guard Caitlin Clark is listed as probable with a back injury for Monday night's matchup against the Phoenix Mercury. While Clark continues to appear on the injury report because of the lingering issue, there is little indication that her availability is seriously in doubt. The Fever superstar has not missed a game since May 20 and has continued to play heavy minutes despite the designation. Monday's contest comes at an important time for Indiana, which enters the game at 9-7 after suffering consecutive losses to Atlanta. The Fever will look to get back on track against a Mercury team that sits at 5-12 entering the matchup.Clark continues red-hot stretch despite injury concernThe injury designation arrives as Clark is arguably playing some of her best basketball of the season. Over her last five games, the former Iowa star has scored at least 20 points in every contest while averaging 26.0 points, 8.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.Status Report for tomorrow's game vs. Phoenix:Caitlin Clark - Probable (back) pic.twitter.com/yI4tTGgnUQ— Indiana Fever (@IndianaFever) June 21, 2026She continued that trend Saturday against Atlanta, finishing with 26 points and seven assists despite Indiana's 113-96 defeat. Before that, she posted another 26-point, seven-assist outing in the Fever's June 18 loss to the Dream. Clark's season averages remain among the league's best. Through 15 games, she is averaging 21.1 points, 8.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 42.3% from the field.MORE: Caitlin Clark points to one issue that changed everything in Fever's loss to DreamFever looking to rebound at homeThe bigger concern for Indiana right now may not be Clark's back, but the team's defensive struggles. The Fever have allowed 108 and 113 points in their last two games against Atlanta, marking the sixth time this season they have surrendered at least 100 points. Turnovers have also become an issue, as Indiana committed 19 against the Dream on Saturday. After the loss, Clark pointed directly to ball security as an area needing improvement."I think we just gotta take care of the ball better, and that starts with me," Clark said. The good news for Fever fans is that their franchise star appears on track to suit up Monday night as Indiana tries to avoid a three-game losing streak. With Clark listed as probable and continuing her impressive scoring run, all signs point toward her being on the floor when the Fever host Phoenix at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. ET.More WNBA news:Angel Reese's flagrant foul vs. Fever could come with immediate consequenceCaitlin Clark and Angel Reese's latest on-court exchange quickly grabs attention during Fever-Dream matchupAngel Reese reaches historic rebound milestone as Dream star rewrites WNBA record bookCheryl Reeve's reaction to Olivia Miles' first rough WNBA game says everything about the Lynx rookieBefore a huge game in Atlanta, the Indiana Fever had one message for Stephanie White0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJahmai Jones Opens Up About Being Booed by Tigers FansSaturday afternoon at Comerica Park was a tough one for Jahmai Jones. The Detroit Tigers utility player found himself in the middle of a controversial moment when manager A.J. Hinch elected to pinch-hit for Kerry Carpenter in a key fourth-inning situation against the Chicago White Sox.With the bases loaded and the White Sox bringing in a left-handed reliever to face Carpenter, Hinch turned to Jones, a right-handed hitter with a history of success against left-handed pitching. The move was met with immediate boos from the crowd, and those boos only intensified when Jones struck out to end the threat. One day later, after the Tigers earned a dramatic 5-4 walk-off victory over the White Sox, Jones addressed the situation and admitted the experience was something he had never encountered before.“I think that’s the first time in my career I’ve been booed by an entire stadium.”Jones, who legged out an infield single in the bottom of the ninth, understood why fans were frustrated, but he also wanted people to remember that players are putting in the work every day to try to help the team win.“I feel like fans forget that we’re trying just as hard (as we can), I promise. But obviously, it’s a bad feeling. You never want to get booed by your home fans.”While the reaction stung, Jones said he couldn’t allow it to affect his approach at the plate.“At the end of the day, I can’t get wrapped up in that. If I got wrapped up in it, I wouldn’t have been able to do what I did my last at-bat. I would have been worrying about if the fans were going to boo me again. Hopefully I start turning it on so they can forgive me.”The veteran also made it clear that he understands the expectations Tigers fans have for this team. Detroit entered the season with playoff aspirations, and a frustrating stretch of baseball has tested the patience of everyone involved.“It’s just part of it. I know that the entire city wants us to win. They want us to be good. They know how good we can be as a team. We want to do that, too. So I feel for them. I really do. But nobody takes it harder than we do.”Jones’ comments offered a glimpse into the human side of the game. Fans see the results on the field, but players often carry those struggles with them long after the final out. After Sunday’s comeback win, Jones is hoping better days are ahead, both for himself and for a Tigers team trying to regain momentum as the season moves forward.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJackson Koivun, Ryder Cowan share low amateur honors at 2026 U.S. OpenFor the first time since 2018, there are co-low amateurs at the U.S. Open.World No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun, who is competing in his final event as an am, and Ryder Cowan, the rising senior at Oklahoma competing in his first major championship, both finished at 5-over 285 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, to share medalist honors in the third major championship of the year. Cowan birdied the 71st hole to get into a tie with Koivun. On the closing 18th, he had a birdie putt to nab low am honors all to himself but left it short.More: 5 amateurs made the cut. Here’s how they finished at the 2026 U.S. Open"Shinnecock was so much fun this weekend," Koivun said. "Just happy to walk away with a birdie on the last hole, but golf course is so good, so much fun. A lot of thinking to do, and can definitely mentally wear you down. But just happy to be able to say I went out there and tried my hardest."The duo were among 20 amateurs in the field when the week began and five who made the cut. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRoyals lose slugfest in series finale against CardinalsKANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - JUNE 21: Jac Caglianone #14 of the Kansas City Royals runs the bases after hitting a two-run home run against the St. Louis Cardinals in the second inning at Kauffman Stadium on June 21, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Ed Zurga/Getty Images) | Getty Images The Cardinals jumped the Royals for 5 runs in the top of the first inning and held on to defeat the Royals 12-10 in a Father’s Day matinee, salvaging the series and avoiding the sweep. Stephen Kolek has been dynamite for the Royals in his tenure, but he simply didn’t have it today. Three pitches into the game, Cardinals second baseman JJ Wetherholt blasted a solo shot into the right center seats. A hit batter, walk and double gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead. Masyn Winn put the exclamation point on the inning, hitting a 3-run homer into the Cardinals bullpen. The Royals did respond with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, Carter Jensen led off with a single, Jac Caglianone walked, and Michael Massey hit a two-out single, to make it 5-2. A single and RBI triple made it 8-2, Kolek did get two big outs not allowing the run to score, but Winn legged out an infield single to make it 9-2, ending Kolek’s day. Connor Seabold came on to get the last out of the 2nd. In the bottom of the inning, Kameron Misner led off with a single, and scored on Nick Loftin’s two run homer, Loftin’s 2nd on the year, a 416-foot blast to left center. Isaac Collins singled, and after two straight outs, he scored on Caglianone’s mammoth two run shot into the second deck of fountains in right center, a 444-foot blast, making it 9-6. After a St. Louis challenge, Perez was still safe. 12-10, 1st and 2nd nobody out for the Royals. Misner laid down a good bunt, making it 2nd and 3rd with one out. John Rave pinch hit for Loftin, (which I didn’t like because Loftin has been good with RISP this season), and his struck out looking on a pitch that was inside, but the Royals were out of challenges. Collins grounded out to the pitcher on the first pitch to end the game. Outside of Cruz giving up the three run homer, the bullpen of Seabold, Erceg, Strahm and Way were good. Shoutout to them. The Royals drop the series finale and finish the year 3-3 vs St. Louis, they are 32-46 on the season. They are off to Tampa Bay for a four-game series starting tomorrow night. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finishJordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finish originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Jordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finish There was a time when Jordan Spieth seemed destined to rewrite golf history. By the age of 24, Spieth had already won three major championships, captured the Masters and U.S. Open in the same season, climbed to world No. 1 and joined some of the biggest names the sport has ever produced. It felt less like a question of if he would complete the career Grand Slam and more a question of when.Nearly a decade later, that wait continues. Spieth's latest opportunity came at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, a venue where experience and creativity often matter as much as pure power. Instead, the week turned into another frustrating chapter in one of golf's most surprising droughts. After rounds of 73, 70, 73 and 74, Spieth finished tied for 56th at 10-over par, never seriously contending for the championship. His final-round 74 included four bogeys on the back nine and capped off a week where he struggled to generate momentum.A drought few could have predictedSpieth's last major championship victory remains the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. That victory gave him three majors before his 24th birthday and placed him in rare company. Many expected several more major trophies to follow. Instead, the years since have been filled with near misses, swing changes, injuries, flashes of brilliance and long stretches of inconsistency. The drought has now stretched to nine years and counting. For most golfers, a career that includes a Masters title, a U.S. Open championship and a Claret Jug would be legendary. For Spieth, the expectations were simply different because of how quickly he arrived at the sport's summit.MORE: Rory McIlroy's U.S. Open takes painful turn after early charge at Shinnecock HillsThe search for another major goes onWhat makes Spieth's drought particularly fascinating is that he has not disappeared from the game's biggest stages. He finished runner-up at The Open in 2021 and has recorded several strong major performances since his last victory. Yet every season seems to bring the same conversation: Is this finally the year Spieth breaks through again? At Shinnecock Hills, the answer was no. While younger stars continue to emerge and players like Scottie Scheffler have established themselves as the sport's dominant force, Spieth remains stuck searching for the form that once made him golf's most dangerous major championship player.Time is still on Spieth's sideThe encouraging reality for Spieth is that he is only 32 years old. Many golfers have won majors well into their 30s and even 40s. His experience, creativity around the greens and proven ability to handle pressure remain valuable assets whenever golf's biggest tournaments arrive. But with every major that passes without a serious Sunday charge, the questions become louder. Spieth arrived at Shinnecock Hills hoping to create another memorable chapter in his major championship career. Instead, he leaves Long Island with the same storyline that has followed him for years. One of golf's most accomplished players is still waiting for major championship No. 4.MORE PGA:Inside Wyndham Clark's major historyRevisiting Wyndham Clark's 2025 U.S. Open incidentRound 4 tee times, featured groups for 2026 U.S. Open0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColumn: If the Chicago White Sox and Cubs hope to make it to October, their bullpens need to step upCraig Counsell and Will Venable trusted their bullpens on Saturday with similar results.Counsell watched his Chicago Cubs bullpen blow a late 5-0 lead in an 8-6 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, while Venable watched the White Sox ’pen lose 4-1 to the Detroit Tigers on a bullpen day scripted because of the lack of a fifth starter. The Sox bullpen didn’t perform any better on Sunday, blowing leads in the ninth and 10th innings of a 5-4 loss to get swept in Detroit and finish 1-5 on the road trip.Venable and Counsell are no different from every other manager in baseball who is heavily reliant on multiple relievers to do the job on any given day. The average number of pitchers a team uses per game is 4.23, and has been above 4.11 since 2015.It’s not going backward any time soon, as starters’ pitch counts decrease and the average velocity of relievers increases.Fair or not, a manager typically gets criticized for his bullpen moves when things go wrong and seldom gets credit when everything goes right.Counsell was reputed to be a bullpen whisperer in Milwaukee when he had reliable closers in Josh Hader and Devin Williams, but now gets questioned about why he left (fill-in-the-blank-pitcher) in too long. Venable hasn’t endured nearly as much criticism because the Sox were awful last year and weren’t expected to do anything this season. But now that the Sox are contending, and starting a big series Monday against the Cleveland Guardians at Rate Field, his in-game strategy will no doubt get more scrutiny. Both Chicago managers can only work with what they have, and neither the Cubs nor the Sox bullpen has shown much consistency over the first three months of the 2026 season.Cubs relievers on Sunday ranked 12th in the majors with a 3.82 ERA, but have trended downward since the start of June, compiling a 4.94 ERA this month with five blown saves in six opportunities. The loss of closer Daniel Palencia has seemingly had a residual effect on the rest of the bullpen, as evidenced by Saturday’s implosion by Trent Thornton, Caleb Thielbar and Jacob Webb, who combined to give up eight runs in 1 2/3 innings.Cubs relievers are last in the majors with 23 holds, while Sox relievers began Sunday second-to-last with 24 holds.Cubs President Jed Hoyer performed a major reconstruction job on the ’pen this offseason, notably letting Brad Keller, his most effective reliever in 2025, sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs made Keller an offer, but the Phillies made a better one at two years and $22 million, which made it an easy decision. The Cubs counted on Palencia to dominate as a closer, which he has mostly done. But an oblique injury in April and a “mild flexor strain” that put him on the IL again last week have limited him to 19 appearances. Thielbar has regressed, while free agent Phil Maton, Hoyer’s main bullpen addition on a two-year, $14 million deal, has flopped like last year’s big bullpen addition, Ryan Pressly.Injury-prone Hunter Harvey got injured early, and Webb has struggled of late and was a complete mess in Saturday’s loss. In between dropping f-bombs Saturday, Webb candidly said: “Back to the drawing board, figure some stuff out.”The Cubs’ biggest bullpen loss may have been moving Ben Brown to the rotation due to injuries. Brown has thrived, but no one has picked up the slack to replace him. The Cubs can still recover, but to go anywhere this October, Counsell will have to get more out of his ’pen.“Every season throws stuff at you and you just got to roll with it and you got to be ready for it and you got to adjust to it,” Counsell said after Saturday’s loss. “That will continue to happen. That’s how it’s going to be. We’re going to try to get in that same spot tomorrow, whether it’s a 5-0 lead in the sixth or a 5-3 lead in the eighth — every time we try to get to that spot again, you know what I mean? Just didn’t get it done today.”The Cubs didn’t get into that spot Sunday, thanks to a postponement of the finale against the Blue Jays, which will be made up at 1:20 p.m. on Aug. 6. They head to New York for a four-game series against the Mets, before an important showdown in Milwaukee next weekend.Sox relievers ranked 18th on Sunday with a 4.26 ERA, though it should be noted that Venable has used an opener 15 times, which means part-time “bulk” pitchers — including starters Erick Fedde, Anthony Kay, Sean Burke and since-demoted David Sandlin — have some outings included in the bullpen’s stats. The bullpen has mostly performed well at home (13-8 with a 3.48 ERA) and been terrible on the road (5-9, 5.21 ERA).Like Hoyer, White Sox GM Chris Getz also overhauled his ’pen after 2025, signing Seranthony Domínguez to a two-year, $20 million deal, acquiring Jordan Hicks from the Boston Red Sox, along with Sandlin, and signing veteran lefty Sean Newcomb. The Domínguez and Hicks moves were done with money the White Sox saved by dealing Luis Robert Jr. and his $20 million salary to the New York Mets. Hicks, who struggled with the Red Sox last year, was inconsistent before going down with a right lat strain. He returned from the IL on Sunday, with Tyler Davis optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.Domínguez has 12 saves but has been spotty with control issues while allowing five home runs in 26 games. In Sunday’s game, he retired the first two hitters in the ninth inning before blowing the save on three straight singles.Grant Taylor, Bryan Hudson, Domínguez and Newcomb have all been effective for Venable, but the Sox manager has had a difficult time finding the right spots for Taylor, a potential closer and possibly a future starter. Newcomb threw three perfect innings Saturday in Detroit and could be stretched out to start if needed. But the Sox are hoping Noah Schultz, rehabbing his right knee injury at Charlotte, can return soon to fill the fifth spot, since Newcomb’s value in the ’pen is growing.Meanwhile, Venable has been using an opener more often of late, except for Davis Martin’s starts, with mixed results. Burke dominated against the New York Yankees on Thursday as a bulk starter, but Fedde came in on Friday in Detroit, trailing 2-1 after opener Brandon Eisert served up a two-run home run.“The players’ reactions, as we’ve done it more, they’ve been more open to it, and that’s really where it starts,” Venable said Saturday. “You’re sensitive to the fact these guys are very routine-oriented, and certainly for a starting pitcher, an opener can disrupt that. So you have different reactions to it, and in the case where we’ve done it with Fedde and Burke, they’ve responded very well to it.”Fedde has been used after an opener seven times in 15 appearances. Asked after Friday’s outing if he was getting more comfortable being a bulk pitcher or would rather have a normal start, Fedde was diplomatic.“Honestly, I try not to think too much about it,” he said. “It kind of is what it is. Yeah, I’m just going to keep giving it my best each opportunity I get the ball. That’s kind of all I have to say about it.”Enough said.Fedde has pitched well in his last four outings, but is on a one-year, $1.5 million deal and may not be in any position to protest.Venable is unlikely to change his view on openers, feeling it’s the best way to optimize performance from his starters, none of whom is on his way to the Hall of Fame. If the Sox continue to contend, that strategy bears watching.Managing in a baseball-crazy town like Chicago isn’t for the faint-hearted, as Counsell can attest.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIndianapolis Colts Player’s Breakout Season Viewed as One-Year WonderLast season, when many were looking past them, the Indianapolis Colts surprised the football world when Daniel Jones helped them come out of the gates with a 7-1 start. It would all later come crashing down, with the Colts losing eight of their next nine games, finishing the season with a 44-year-old starting QB. Of course, Jones suffered a torn Achilles tendon, which he’s still recovering from. The belief is that he’ll be ready to go by the start of the season. Yet, unlike last year when the former first-round pick was performing on an expiring deal, now he’s entering the first season of a two-year, $88 million contract. In other words, there’s a lot of pressure on the former No. 6 overall pick, and some don’t believe he’s up to the task.USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectWith the way that Jones and the Colts’ offense came out of the gates firing, some were looking at him as a potential MVP candidate. We never got the chance to find out whether his play was sustainable, especially after he hit a tough stretch just before his season-ending injury, in which the Colts lost three of their past four games before Jones tore the Achilles. Count ESPN’s Ben Solak as someone who doesn’t believe the play seen from “Indiana Jones” is sustainable as the 29-year-old heads into his second season as the team’s starting quarterback. Solak labeled Jones’ one-year wonder as a “super-blip” on a radar that won’t deliver future hits. “Most preposterous and least sustainable of Jones’ many achievements was his play under pressure. Statistical performance under pressure is notoriously volatile, and through seven weeks, Jones led the league in EPA per dropback when pressured. Jones was avoiding sacks at an absurd clip. He had a pressure-to-sack ratio of 8.6% after averaging 23.3% over his Giants career. In the middle of the season, Jones began taking bad sacks against the Titans (33.3%), Steelers (27.8%) and Falcons (43.8%). Would Jones and the Colts have a counterpunch? Could Steichen get the ball out of Jones’ hand faster? Would Indy scheme up more protection to maintain its thriving play-action game? We never found out. Jones’ 2025 is obviously a blip. He was not just singularly productive for his baseline but also historically productive among league passers. The undressing of that charade was well underway before he got hurt. The awful reality that he must now recover from an Achilles injury makes the bet that 2025 was a peak season even easier to make.”ESPN’s Ben Solak on Daniel JonesFor what it’s worth, Solak wrapped up his analysis by saying that Jones wasn’t quite coached right in his six seasons with the Giants, and he was excellent right off the bat under Shane Steichen in Indianapolis. Still, Solak says that Jones will “never again achieve those 2025 highs.” That said, Solak believes that if Jones “rushes back” from his Achilles tear too quickly, like if he’s worried about his starting job, then he could place his career in “jeopardy.”Time will tell who is right. The Colts rightfully felt like they had no choice but to stick by their starting QB after he thrived with him in a short stint last season. Now we’ll get a chance to start finding out which side made the better bet in the long run. Will the Colts regret not getting Jones under contract for four or five years? Or will they need another QB by 2027 or 2028, indicating that they may not be done with former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson quite yet. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDoes it matter if Scotland lose and still make history?Steve Clarke's and his squad are preparing for a potentially historic game [PA Media]In a World Cup where the boffins with their big brainy heads and their super computers are working overtime on who might play who in the last 32, there are other calculations worth conjuring with.As Steve Clarke's squad prepare to head for Miami to face Brazil on Wednesday, potentially the biggest day in the history of Scotland's national team, they travel having had no shot on target in their last game and a half in America and only two overall.Che Adams, the principal striker, has had three touches of the ball in the opposition box in 146 minutes. One goal has been scored - a double deflection less than half an hour into the opening game.Despite all their endeavour, all the heat they put on Morocco late on and a few big decisions that went against them, Scotland failed to register a shot on target on Friday, the first time that's happened to them on this stage since the 1986 World Cup. They wanted to be a bazooka, but so far they're positively popgun. Taking the last Euros into account, Scotland have had five shots on target in their last five tournament matches. Their three goals across those five contests have come from two deflected shots and one own goal. And yet, if the football data experts are to be believed, the chances of them progressing are high. The mad psychology is that win, lose, or draw, this might be the most glorious week in the long story of the national team, the moment they finally make it out of a group and into the nirvana of the knockout rounds.Scots 'won't go gung-ho', but Naismith believes they can 'get job done'Scotland trio not part of training groupMiami heat could mean a repeat of 1982 against Brazil - VickeryA first-ever win over Brazil would do the job beautifully. Cue a Tartan Army carnival in Miami to wipe the floor with anything that's seen in Rio. A draw would spark the same merry chaos. The avoidance of defeat would need to be a hell of a Scotland performance, one that would merit a place in the last 32.Where the mentality gets interesting and, perhaps to some, complicated is if Scotland lose by a goal or two, or even three, and still make it into the next round. They could be utterly brilliant and progress and they could be utterly unthreatening and progress. They could play to keep the score down, pack the midfield, hoof everything downfield and never venture a shot on Brazil's goal and still make it through.A strange kind of glory? Or, when you've lost out on goal difference so many times before, does it actually matter a damn? Is the bottom line everything? Does the end justify the means? Never mind the quality, just rejoice in the qualification? Would a win over Haiti followed by two defeats be acclaimed as a riotous success if it's enough to scrape into the knockouts as one of the best third-placed teams?A point, or three, against Brazil and nobody needs to contemplate such existential issues. A result and Miami won't know what hit it, but they'll love it.Clarke has been criticised in places for a supposed risk-averse approach against Morocco, a game that Scotland finished by having a forward line of Lyndon Dykes, Ross Stewart, Scott McTominay and Ben Gannon-Doak. If that was caution, it's hard to imagine what abandon looks like.Clarke can't please some people, that much is obvious. No matter what he does, there is a constituency of fans out there that will slam him, some for legitimate reasons based on the paucity of the last Euros, many others because they just don't like the guy.Calling on him to be gung-ho from the get-go against Morocco, or Brazil, is deeply flawed because that's exactly what those teams want Scotland to do. Clarke is trying to find a balance that sits somewhere between ambition and pragmatism and hasn't really found it yet, but he's trying. Everybody's an expert in telling him what to do.Steven Naismith, the assistant manager, spoke in Charlotte on Sunday about the fine line that Scotland had to walk against Morocco and will have to walk against Brazil, an infinitely more technically adept team with searing pace out wide and world-class finishers.Scotland can try to go toe-to-toe with them in the manner of a middleweight taking on a heavyweight. There's only going to be one winner there."If you look at Brazil in the last game [against Haiti] before half-time, it's 3-0," Naismith pointed out. "The game that's been on today [Spain led Saudi Arabia 3-0 after 24 minutes]... So there has to be a game plan, but that doesn't mean we're sitting around in our 18-yard box for 90 minutes because taking into consideration the conditions and the opposition, it's impossible to do."The heat in Miami will be oppressive, considerably hotter than Boston. Expecting Scotland to 'go for it' like mad dogs in a meathouse betrays a serious lack of understanding of the weather here."It's at moments in the game where we feel as if we're dominating, then we need to take risks and be ready," Naismith said. "But there's going to be hard moments where we need to set our shape and wait."Some of their players have got similar traits to Morocco's forward players. We'll go and do what we need to do to get through the group. "That's ultimately what we're here to do. But we need to make sure we're solid because, as you've seen in some of the results, teams are ruthless when they get the opportunity."I sat here last week and said, if we qualify out of the group, it's the first squad to do it. I think this squad deserves to do it. I think we've got the players to do it and I think we've got the manager to do it. "The magnitude of these games is definitely as [big] as any games [the players] have played in, but you know you can be punished at any one moment. You've got to be switched on."Naismith talked about Scotland getting into the final third and then making poor decisions, which is a quality thing and, despite the reputations of some of these Scotland players they went up against more accomplished operators last Friday in Boston and they'll be doing the same again on Wednesday in Miami."When we've got possession, and we've got a good feel in the game that we're in control, we need to take risks to try and score," he said. "That's the bit that needs to change. "We don't need to go, 'if we lose 4-0, we've still got a chance of going through'. We need to take the chances, definitely, but I'd rather have a proper game plan than just going, let's go for it."That's the essential weirdness of Scotland's situation. If they're trailing 1-0 late on, do they push, or do they settle? If they're trailing 2-0, do they commit more people forward or chase the game and run the risk of conceding more and taking themselves out of the tournament on goal difference in the process? These are dilemmas you hope they don't have to face. Dan Marino, the greatest Miami Dolphin, once said of a player's mindset: "You have to feel you're the best at what you do. You don't have to come out and say it. But you have to know it within yourself."Brazil will know it, that's for certain. Scotland need to believe it, too. A game of football, but also a fascinating and complex game of psychology. What a denouement to the group this promises to be.World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World Cup0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 4 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFour Teams Reportedly Lining Up to Trade for Isaiah StewartThe trade speculation surrounding Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart continues to gain momentum.Just days after reports surfaced that the Pistons had made Stewart available in trade discussions, a new report from Jake Fischer of The Stein Linesuggests the veteran forward-center is already preparing for the possibility of a new home.According to Fischer, league sources say Stewart is “bracing” for a potential departure from Detroit as the Pistons explore opportunities to upgrade their roster heading into the 2026-27 season.Detroit reportedly remains focused on making a “significant move” this offseason, with shooting and playmaking identified as two major priorities after the team’s surprising 60-win campaign ended in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.Several Contenders InterestedFischer reports that the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat are among the teams that have expressed interest in Stewart. The 25-year-old remains an attractive trade asset around the league due to his toughness, defensive versatility, and team-friendly contract. Stewart is set to earn $15 million next season, with a $15 million team option for the 2027-28 campaign. After averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds during the regular season, Stewart continued to provide his trademark energy and physicality throughout Detroit’s playoff run.Pistons Looking for a Major UpgradeDetroit’s front office appears determined to capitalize on the momentum created by its breakout season. With Cade Cunningham firmly established as the franchise centerpiece, the Pistons are reportedly exploring avenues to add more offensive firepower and secondary playmaking to the roster. One intriguing possibility mentioned by Fischer involves Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro. Previous reporting from Marc Stein suggested Herro could potentially be rerouted to Detroit as part of a larger multi-team blockbuster involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Heat. However, no deal appears imminent at this time.Tobias Harris Expected BackWhile Stewart’s future remains uncertain, another key Pistons veteran may not be going anywhere.According to Fischer, Detroit is “determined” to re-sign veteran forward Tobias Harris after his strong postseason performance. Harris played a vital leadership role during Detroit’s playoff run and remains highly valued within the organization.Bottom LineThe Pistons appear poised to be one of the NBA’s most aggressive teams this offseason. As Detroit searches for additional shooting and playmaking around Cade Cunningham, Isaiah Stewart’s name is emerging as one of the most prominent trade chips available. With reported interest from several playoff-caliber teams, Stewart could become one of the first dominoes to fall as the NBA offseason begins.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 3 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed Sox could flip Tyron Guerrero’s stunning comeback into valuable trade assetsRed Sox could flip Tyron Guerrero’s stunning comeback into valuable trade assets originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox are now looking to sweep for their first time in a while, and things might be turning around for them. If they go on a roll, they could actually switch from sellers to buyers right at the trade deadline. However, if they fall at any point in this road trip, more likely than not they will be sellers. Guys like Aroldis Chapman, Jarren Duran and Sonny Gray will all be sought-after names on the market. There is one more under-the-radar name as well, and that would be the veteran reliever going through a rebirth, Tyron Guerrero.Guerrero was washed © David Butler II-Imagn ImagesBefore his time with the Red Sox, Guerrero had not been in the MLB for many years. The last time he was was in 2019 with the Miami Marlins, where he finished the year with a 6.26 ERA and a WHIP of 1.696. He then bounced around the minors, Japan, and Mexico, before the Red Sox got him on a minor league deal before spring training. He then dominated with Worcester, posting a 0.92 ERA in 15 games.Guerrero is in a renaissance © Jaiden Tripi-Imagn ImagesGuerrero was then called up on May 21st, and for his first couple starts, it looked like he hadn’t really changed. He had around a 9.00 ERA, but he was at least casually throwing 100+ mph pitches. Although recently, he’s been on fire. In his past 12 appearances, he’s dropped his ERA to 3.97 and his FIP to 2.75, and now has a K/9 of 14.3. He’s also throwing harder than he ever has, at 35 years old. With that in mind, teams may be chomping at the bit to acquire him.Guerrero could net Boston some assets © Eric Canha-Imagn Images While it won't get them a star, Guerrero could help Boston rebuild their farm. A prospect or two would be good payment for the righty, possibly one that’s almost MLB ready.Hopefully, the Sox turn it around and get to keep Guerrero, at least till the end of this season. If not, his rebirth could help them reload for next season.MORE MLB NEWSCaleb Durbin’s hot streak could turn Red Sox trade mistake into needed franchise winRed Sox’s worst stretch in decades forces franchise-altering deadline decisionsRed Sox part with Kyle Boddy as failed analytics era faces questions under Craig Breslow0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 3 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Nets work out Michigan's Morez Johnson before 2026 NBA DraftThe Brooklyn Nets have just two days left before they have to make a decision on what they will be doing with their No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn is most likely going to use the pick to select one of the many talented players available in the Lottery, but it seems like they're doing their due diligence just in case they shake things up.The Nets brought in Michigan forward Morez Johnson for a workout on Sunday ahead of the draft, according to reporting from HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. With Brooklyn currently having the No. 6, No. 33, and No. 43 selections and Johnson expected to be selected anywhere from the end of the Lottery to the end of the first round, it seems like the Nets could be preparing to be selecting later in the first round.Scotto reported on Saturday that the Nets have attempted to trade into the top-4 of the draft, presumably so they would have the chance to take either Duke forward Cameron Boozer or North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson. There are also teams, such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, for example, that are reportedly trying to move up in the draft so it's entirely possible that Brooklyn is fielding those offers as well.Johnson, listed at 6-foot-9 and 255 pounds, helped the Wolverines win the National Championship thanks in part to his contributions on both ends of the floor while sharing the floor with fellow draft prospects in forward Yaxel Lendeborg and center Aday Mara. As Spotrac's Keith Smith points out in his post regarding the Nets working out Johnson, the former Wolverine's stock has risen after averaging 13.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 62.3% from the field and 78.2% from the free-throw line for Michigan.Just to give a glimpse of how Johnson's stock has changed over time, HoopsHype's Cyro Asseo recently put together an aggregate mock draft where some mocks have him going as high as 14th while some have him going as low as 26th. Either way, with the Nets bringing in Johnson for a workout on Sunday, it's fair to deduce that he could factor into their plans, whether that's from a trade-down scenario or from Brooklyn acquiring another first-round pick. With the Nets bringing in Michigan big Morez Johnson for a workout and Johnson expected to be off the board by the end of the Lottery at the earliest, it's fair to assume that Brooklyn is covering its bases in case it acquires another first-round pick later in the 2026 NBA Draft. https://t.co/NuXVfbVPZH— Sharif Phillips-Keaton (@SharifKeaton) June 21, 2026I don't know where Morez Johnson ultimately gets selected, but he's been arguably the biggest riser during the draft process. Started out in the latter part of the first round and now could be a lottery pick. The kind of athletic big that teams want at the 4 in today's game. https://t.co/1Lny6t5FVn— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) June 21, 2026This article originally appeared on Nets Wire: Report: Nets work out Michigan's Morez Johnson before 2026 NBA Draft0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 3 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen
