WWW.404MEDIA.CO'We Will Fight to Our Very Last Breath:' Township Leaders Vow to Fight Nuclear AI Data CenterBoard members of a small township in Michigan agreed to “fight to our very last breath” against an AI data center planned in their community. America’s nuclear scientists and the University of Michigan want to build a massive data center in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan. If built, the data center will, among other things, run simulations to help America build nuclear weapons. The residents of Ypsilanti Township overwhelmingly oppose the construction of the data center and voiced their opposition to the computer warehouse during a public board meeting on June 16. In a show of support that’s often rare from local leaders in communities with data centers, Ypsilanti Township’s board vowed to fight UofM and Los Alamos National Laboratory, which is partnering with the university, with everything they had. Throughout most of the three hour board meeting, a photograph from a data center groundbreaking in nearby Saline Township was projected onto a wall behind the board. The photo showed a grinning Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer standing in line with Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk. It was taken at the June 1 groundbreaking of an Oracle and OpenAI data center in nearby Saline Township, one of several Stargate projects. Saline Township is a community of only 2,300 people and the fight against the data center was so contentious that the Township treasurer resigned in tears during a public meeting in May. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Oracle (@oracle) During the groundbreaking, a videographer caught Whitmer talking with Magouyrk. In the video Whitmer appeared to tell the billionaire, “We’re used to people saying no, and doing it anyway.” Whitmer’s office has officially denied she said that, but many of the residents of Michigan—including the people of Ypsilanti Township—believe she did.Governor Whitmer had a hot mic moment at the Saline Data Center groundbreaking, where she tells Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk, “We’re used to people saying f*ck no, and doing it anyway.” I’m old enough to remember when she doxxed Marshall constituents who opposed her BlueOval project. pic.twitter.com/PRFnjGY5l9— Heather Dow (@PatriotPostGirl) June 8, 2026 Cilla Cresswell shot the video of Whitmer and was present at the Ypsilanti Township board meeting on Tuesday. “On June 1 I was standing just to the left, right there,” Creswell said, referring to the photo that loomed behind the board during the meeting. “I was there. I recorded that clip [… ] I was right there. And they want to say it’s fake, but I just want to let you guys know it’s real. You can play it on my camera.”Members of the board and the community referenced the photograph often during the meeting. “You have people in that photograph worth billions of dollars. Not just millions, we’re talking trillions. Soon to be trillionaires. Yet this state, in its zeal to become the data capital of the country, has extended unprecedented tax credits to the richest corporations in the world,” Douglas Winters, a lawyer representing Ypsilanti Township, said in the meeting.“Having to stare at this picture during this meeting has my blood boiling,” said Ypsi resident Laura Witowski. “I did not realize how emotional I would be. The waste of space. The complete lack of regard for humans and animals and for what?”During the hours of community comments, residents stepped forward to voice complaints that have now become common about data centers in America. The people of Ypsilanti Township worried about the rising cost of electricity, how much water the building will use, and how noisy the data center would be once finished. They also called on the Township board to do everything in their power to stop it from even being built. “Put yourselves on the line. Those people will listen to you better than they will listen to us. Please put yourselves, your jobs, and your comfort on the line to stop this for us,” Ypsi resident Jane Wolf said. “Get creative. Tear up the road. Block the road. Break the law. Do whatever you need to do for us. You will be remembered better in history for the job that you did if you can get creative and really put yourselves out there.”Jill Warren, the wife of a Methodist pastor, suggested residents brush up on the OSS’ Simple Sabotage Field Manual. “Simply slow things down bureaucratically," she said. “Make sure we block where we can. Use very slow agendas and response times and do, within your power, the work that you are entitled to do. For those who aren’t familiar with it, please look up the Simple Sabotage Field Manual and use it in your own lives of action as well [...] they may not care about us, but we care about us and we’re here and we’ll continue to be here and support the work that you’re doing on our behalf.”Alyssa, an Ypsilanti resident, cited long passages from John Hershey’s Hiroshima—a 1946 book that focused on the victims of the first atomic bombing. “We don’t need simulations to know what a nuclear strike looks like,” she said. “We have pictures, videos, and audio of what happens. We know what it does to bodies. We know what it does to children and what it does to life.”Board supervisor Brend Stumbo vowed to fight. “This is going to harm our community in our future. We will fight to our very last breath, but we need help. And we need it from the people who have the power to stop things,” she said.Stumbo explained that, early on, she and other members of the board were ignorant about data centers and that she was grateful to the Township’s residents for informing her. “Now we know and we’re thankful for the residents and non-residents that came to our meetings early and told us, ‘don’t trust UofM,’” she said. “We do not love nor do we appreciate what the board or regents is doing to our community. It needs to stop. And everyone that showed up here today, we greatly appreciate it and we will keep going, like everyone has said, by doing it together […] I will stand with you. I will fight with you. And I know this entire board and our Township attorney will as well. So let’s keep doing it together.”The Township has, so far, made good on its word and it’s been creative in its opposition. In April, the board voted to institute a 365 day moratorium on supplying water to data centers so it could conduct a scientific study into how hyper scale data centers might affect the community water supply. In response, UofM threatened to sue and claimed that withholding water from an AI data center meant to power nuclear weapons research was unlawful discrimination.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEvans not motivated more by Wimbledon wildcard omissionDan Evans says missing out on a Wimbledon main-draw wildcard has not motivated him more in qualifying as he overcame Juan Carlos Prado Angelo in the first round. The 36-year-old, who will end his career after the championships, has been given a wildcard into the men's doubles with Henry Searle, who he has been working with since January. However, Evans missed out on one of the eight singles wildcards, meaning he needs to win three matches in Roehampton this week to play one last singles at SW19.The former British number one expressed frustration earlier in June at not being given a wildcard for Queen's , saying it would have been a "classy gesture" to get one. After beating Bolivia's Prado Angelo 7-6 (7-2) 6-3, Evans said he was "no more motivated to win matches here because I didn't get the wildcard"."I play tennis for myself, not to prove other people wrong and I've done that throughout my career," he added."It's nothing to do with the All England Club giving or not giving me a wildcard. They gave me one in doubles and I am appreciative of that. "It's neither here nor there if they gave me a wildcard. I love the tournament, but I am no more motivated to win matches here because I didn't get the wildcard. "A lot of people have run with that story - it's untrue."I'm really happy that I ended up playing qualifying, to get a chance to come and play in this atmosphere."Ex-Wimbledon champion Vondrousova given four-year ban'Where champions are born' - the making of Jannik SinnerDan Evans lost to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon second round in 2025 [Getty Images]World number 297 Evans has reached the Wimbledon third round on three occasions. He won two ATP Tour-level titles and reached a career-high of 21 in the world rankings, and was also part of the British team that won the 2015 Davis Cup.In 2024, Evans sacrificed the 500 ranking points he had won at the Washington Open the previous year to partner Sir Andy Murray for his final tournament at the Paris Olympics. He was watched by a packed crowd at Roehampton on Monday and admitted nerves made him feeling like he was playing his first Wimbledon."I was very nervous at the start and especially at the end," Evans added."I made the decision [to retire] and I'm happy with that but I'm not going to lie, in the matches on the grass it's been difficult to keep my mind on the job."I'm really happy and proud of how I've come through that."Evans will face 28th seed Tristan Schoolkate next after the Australian beat Britain's Johannus Monday 7-5 6-3.Billy Harris and Oliver Tarvet, who reached the second round at Wimbledon last year, were also among the winners on the first day of qualifying.Harris beat Italy's Stefano Napolitano 6-2 6-2, while Tarvet was a 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 winner against Alex Bolt of Australia.Wimbledon begins on Monday, 29 June.Williams is the greatest - but will she produce another great fight?Draper returns at Eastbourne - follow on the BBC0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘It’s not Tommy Izzo’: Dave Portnoy breaks his silence on Dusty May leaving Michigan for NBA jobCredit: Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images, The Indianapolis StarThe Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball program looked set up to be the sport’s next dynasty after the first two years of the Dusty May head coach experience culminated in a national championship. However, the Wolverines were dealt a major blow on Monday, when it was reported that May would be leaving the school to take the Dallas Mavericks head coaching job.“BREAKING: University of Michigan coach Dusty May has agreed to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell me, (Adam Schefter), (Pete Thamel). Major college-to-pro jump for the 2026 NCAA championship coach and swing for the Mavericks and Masai Ujiri,” reported ESPN’s Shams Charania. It didn’t take long for Michigan superfan and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy to give his unfiltered thoughts on the development.“I’ve had, I don’t know, a couple of minutes to process it. And you can’t be mad. Like, it sucks for Michigan, no doubt,” Portnoy said of May’s departure in a video posted to X. “But this is what happens when you’re a great college coach. Pitino, Calipari, guys want to go to the next level. This isn’t musical chairs. This isn’t going to another school in the conference. This isn’t going to another college program. This is a guy who’s going— won a national championship at Michigan.More thoughts on Dusty leaving and why it’s the Michigan curse. pic.twitter.com/kBGlU96Yts— Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) June 22, 2026“He’s like: ‘I need to challenge myself at the highest levels, uh, the professional leagues.’ We saw with Harbaugh. Harbaugh wins at Michigan, he wants to go challenge himself in the NFL. It’s what unfortunately the Michigan curse is, because when you win and you’re a Michigan man at the highest levels, it’s in our blood, it’s in our DNA. Like, we want the hardest challenge, the champions of the champions, leaders and best.“We want to go to the professional level and succeed on the highest professional level known to man. That’s the social contract you sign when you become a Michigan man. It’s not Tim, uh, Tommy Izzo, who lives in college world and can’t hack it in the big one, gets his f*cking face kicked in and lives there. It’s not, uh, Krzyzewski, afraid to take that next step and always needs to be in the college. No, these are Michigan men.“Michigan men, you always strive for that highest level. And yeah, it sucks when you win at college and make it look easy and kick everybody’s face in. It’s like, what is that next challenge? That’s something only the Block M understands. So it absolutely sucks because when you win your national championships, like we did in football, like we’ve done in basketball, you’re going to lose guys who say that DNA, that maize and blue that courses through my veins, say I need the next challenge.”The post ‘It’s not Tommy Izzo’: Dave Portnoy breaks his silence on Dusty May leaving Michigan for NBA job appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRockies have .703 OPS trade value problem with 'breakout star'Rockies have .703 OPS trade value problem with 'breakout star' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Colorado Rockies are at the bottom of the National League standings and figure to be sellers at this year's trade deadline. Colorado has a "breakout star" who could help several contending clubs in the outfield, writes Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller. But should those teams be concerned about how he's hit at Coors Field compared to on the road? The numbers indicate that they should at least be wary. "[Mickey] Moniak has crushed in the thin air of Denver, amassing 24 home runs and a .980 OPS at home over the past 1.5 seasons," Miller wrote. "However, teams rather have to assume they would be trading for the much more pedestrian 12 home runs and .703 OPS that Moniak has put together in 83 games played on the road." The high elevation of Coors Field is known to help balls carry over the fence. Still, Moniak should have solid value on the trade market. A team like the Philadelphia Phillies, which lost right fielder Adolis Garcia for the year due to injury, could be one of the interested suitors. Moniak was the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Phillies, and he spent parts of his first three Major League seasons with the NL East organization. MORE: How Pirates lost on maddening interference call for final out vs. RockiesOffensively, he didn't put it together until last season with the Rockies, when he hit 24 home runs with a .824 OPS. It wouldn't be a shock to see a club take a chance that Moniak's numbers outside of Coors Field can be improved. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRugby club owners quit over homophobic abuseRyan O'Neill (left) and Kaue Garcia have run Keighley Cougars since 2019 [BBC]The owners of a rugby league club are to step aside at the end of the season, citing "constant" homophobic abuse and financial pressures.Kaue Garcia and Ryan O'Neill took ownership of Keighley Cougars seven years ago, with the aim of transforming the club into an inclusive space for the LGBT+ community. But they said after the 2023 season the "volume and intensity of the abuse became overwhelming", leaving both in need of anti-anxiety medication.O'Neill said: "I'm very sad to be leaving, it's like my family in a way, but we've got to take care of ourselves."Since becoming owners in Keighley, the married pair have taken steps to show their commitment to the LGBT+ community. They have staged an annual Pride match and created the sport's first Pride Terrace where fans could support the team in an environment "free from prejudice".Rainbow flags fly atop their Cougar Park stadium year-round.'It's exhausting'In a statement, Garcia and O'Neill said they had both experienced "periods of immense stress and emotional exhaustion", adding: "At times, the pressure became incredibly difficult to cope, so much so that we just wanted to up and disappear."Garcia said: "Since day one, our sexuality always comes at play."It's always the reason for a loss [and] always something defining how the club is being led in the wrong way."O'Neill said he had been subject to verbal abuse in supermarkets, death threats, had his car vandalised more than once and was physically abused at a match last season. He added: "It seems there's a group of people who just want to hate us, and anything we do, they jump on. It's exhausting."When we took over, we were young, enthusiastic, excited but [the abuse] grinds you down and this past month has been pretty bad."Garcia and O'Neill said mounting financial pressures and changes to the league structure making promotion "almost impossible" had also contributed to their decision. The team enjoyed an unbeaten run in 2022, winning promotion to the Championship but have struggled this season with news of the pair's departure coming after Keighley's fifth straight loss in the league.Despite the abuse, the pair still hold fond memories of their seven years at Cougar Park.Garcia said: "We created this environment, but we needed the people to buy into the message, and that doesn't go unnoticed."He said he had received direct messages from fans and thanked them for their support.O'Neill said they had made "friends for life" during their tenure at the club and that a group of fans had driven an hour to their house, just outside Leeds, to deliver chocolates and give them a supportive hug after the news was announced."That is just testament to how wonderful these guys are," he said.O'Neill said the proudest part of his work had been speaking to young people who had approached the owners to confide about their sexuality, and to later see them "out and proud"."That makes me extremely proud, because it means that, at times the abuse is worth it."If you have been affected by any of the issues in this story, help and support is available at BBC Action Line.Listen to highlights from West Yorkshire on BBC Sounds, catch up with the latest episode of Look North. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPhillies' Bryce Harper joins Trea Turner with fun history after hitting for the cyclePhillies' Bryce Harper joins Trea Turner with fun history after hitting for the cycle originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Philadelphia Phillies might've lost Game 1 of the series against the New York Mets, but the next two games were a whole lot of fun.Kyle Schwarber hit four homers in two games, Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler, and Jhoan Duran looked as dominant as ever. But Bryce Harper's cycle on Saturday, followed by a near-cycle the next day, helped make some very fun history. As Opta STATS shared on Twitter/x, Harper's cycle on Saturday, followed by coming just one leg shy of another cycle on Sunday, joined Trea Turner in some fun MLB history as the last two players to nearly have back-to-back cycles.Bryce Harper joins Trea Turner in fun cycle history"Bryce Harper finished tonight's game a triple short of the cycle after hitting for the cycle in his last game," Opta STATS shared. "The last player to finish one element short of a cycle in the game after hitting for a cycle was teammate Trea Turner, when they were Nationals teammates in April 2017."While they're not the only players to come one leg shy of the cycle after hitting for the cycle the game prior, this is still some fun history for the two to have together.Since Turner's cycle back on April 25, 2017, and his near-cycle on the 26th, Harper is the only player to hit for the cycle and come one leg shy of a second-straight cycle.MORE: Phillies reportedly turn down Bryce Harper's outfield offer to help at trade deadlineFittingly, both stars were a triple away from a repeat cycle, as it's the hardest leg of a cycle to get, evidenced by Harper's hustle-triple that's received some criticism for how it was scored as a triple rather than a double. But Harper's triple is legitimate, and so is his cycle. And he nearly got another cycle there the next night, as he was a triple away from a cycle for the second consecutive game. The Phillies have been very fun recently, and Harper's cycle, followed by nearly hitting for the cycle for a second straight day, has been a huge reason why.More MLB news:Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani might not be able to pitch during MLB All-Star GameTigers’ projected trade return for Tarik Skubal from Braves would be a top-100 prospect and moreGiants are 'pessimistic' they can trade Rafael Devers or Willy AdamesTwins' Byron Buxton trade update is bad news for Phillies, BravesRed Sox looking likely to trade Aroldis Chapman, Sonny Gray, Jarren Duran, and Willson Contreras0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWyndham Clark quiets a U.S. Open crowd that rooted for him to loseWyndham Clark heard it all day from the Shinnecock Hills crowd. Fans shouted for his golf ball to go in the bunker and the rough. One was ejected after yelling: “Don’t choke, Wyndham!”He quieted them with a 52-foot putt to tap-in range for his second U.S. Open title in four years, avoiding the worst collapse in tournament history after his six-stroke lead dwindled to one.Oh, how this anybody-but-Wyndham crowd would’ve relished that.New York loves a winner, but the one these fans really wanted to see was Scottie Scheffler, who was chasing the career Grand Slam, or Sam Burns, who lost by a stroke. Not Clark.Call it backlash for him damaging a locker in a fit of rage at Oakmont Country Club while missing the cut last year at the U.S. Open. Or for saying on TV that being surrounded by kids playing in the Masters Par 3 Contest was “great birth control.” Or even for winning his first U.S. Open title in 2023 over fan favorites Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.Or maybe the folks spending their Father’s Day at Shinnecock just wanted to see a little drama after Clark built leads of two, four and six strokes after each of the first three days.“Man, they definitely didn’t want me to win,” Clark said.He complained that fans largely had deserted the course by the time he was finishing his third round. During the final round, he might’ve wished they had stayed home. It’s rare for a golfer in the lead at a major championship — or any golfer for that matter — to be the subject of such derision. It happened to McIlroy at the Ryder Cup last September at Bethpage Black, also on Long Island, but that was a team competition. McIlroy was the star of the winning European side and U.S. fans went overboard in letting him have it.Clark said he tried to see himself in an “underdog” role, as he did in 2023.“Anytime someone said something negative to me, I replaced it with something positive,” Clark said. “Some of it’s self-deserved. I kind of brought it on myself, but I also get it, too. Scottie was going for the career Grand Slam, and it hasn’t happened very often.”Even so, the animosity appeared to rattle Clark early in his round. He bogeyed the second, sixth and seventh holes as fans threw their support behind Scheffler. They cheered Clark’s mistakes while showering Scheffler with affection — even serenading the four-time major champion, who turned 30, with “Happy Birthday.”It was “Get in the bunker!” for Clark and “We love you Scottie!” for Scheffler, who tied for fourth at even par.“You like seeing the fans cheer for you. I think sometimes it can get a little too much when, you know, balls are kind of going off greens and you start hearing cheers,” Scheffler said. “That felt a bit much to me.”Anti-Clark fans cheered when he flared a shot under a pair of trash containers on the fourth hole and again when his shot on the seventh hole landed in a bunker.“Wyndham gonna lose ‘em,” a man said as Clark walked to his ball on 10.“Get in the fescue!” a fan yelled after he teed off on 13. When his second shot landed on a precarious part of the green, the crowd chanted “Go! Go! Go!” and gleefully roared as the golf ball rolled off the back.Clark won over the crowd, at least for a moment, on the 16th hole — punching out from the tall grass and pumped his fist after nailing a 24-foot birdie putt to go to 5-under par. For the moment, he held a two-stroke lead and the crowd’s hopes of a different winner were fading. But the taunts returned on the next hole as Clark backed off of his 8-foot par putt and then missed it. As Clark walked to the 18th tee, scratching his head with his hat in hand, a fan in the grandstand sang “Under Pressure.”“Yeah, it was tough, but I’m proud of myself that I battled through,” Clark said. “I mean, things really could have gotten away from me. I stood tough. Yeah, I would have liked to have won by more, but as long as you win, it doesn’t matter.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 NBA Mock Draft. NBA Draft 2026 date and time. NBA draft datesHope you enjoyed your break. The NBA Draft is here! This season, eight teams failed to reach the 30-win mark, just one shy of the NBA record set during the 2017-18 season. In response to growing concerns about tanking, the league approved a new anti-tanking measure known as the "3-2-1" lottery system. The format, which will take effect beginning with the 2027 NBA Draft, is designed to flatten lottery odds that will penalize the league's worst teams and discourage organizations from intentionally losing games. The changes also granted NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expanded disciplinary authority to address tanking. Potential penalties include fines of up to $10 million, the forfeiture of draft picks and adjustments to a team's draft position. The league will implement the system on a three-year trial basis through 2029 before determining whether it should become permanent. While those changes remain a year away, the focus now turns to the 2026 NBA Draft. With less than three weeks until prospects hear their names called, it's time to project where the top collegiate stars and international standouts wound up in the lottery and where they could begin their NBA careers.Washington Wizards: AJ Dybantsa, Forward, BYUWhat is there not to say about AJ Dybantsa? During his lone season at BYU, the freshman sensation led the nation in scoring while averaging seven rebounds per game and shooting over 50% from the field.Dybantsa possesses elite physical tools and advanced shot-creation ability for a 19-year-old. His explosiveness attacking the rim, combined with his polished offensive arsenal, makes him one of the most complete prospects in the draft. While some outlets have debated whether he is the consensus selection for Washington, the Wizards are in desperate need of a franchise cornerstone following the departures of John Wall and Bradley Beal years ago. After acquiring Trae Young and Anthony Davis during the 2025-26 season, Washington has already begun reshaping its future. Pairing Dybantsa with those veterans and rising big man Alex Sarr would give the Wizards a legitimate foundation to build around and could help them return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.2. Utah Jazz: Darryn Peterson, Guard, KansasIn terms of pure talent, Darryn Peterson may be the most gifted player in this draft class. Although he experienced some growing pains during his freshman season at Kansas, he consistently showed flashes of elite guard play.Questions about Peterson's maturity and coachability have surfaced throughout the pre-draft process, but his production cannot be ignored. He still averaged 20 points per game and demonstrated the versatility and footwork that project well to the NBA. While he will likely play primarily as a shooting guard, his all-around offensive skill set would allow him to thrive in Utah. The Jazz already have Keyonte George and Isaiah Collier in the backcourt, while Ace Bailey has spent time at shooting guard as well. With uncertainty surrounding the team's long-term direction, Peterson provides a high-upside talent capable of becoming a centerpiece of the franchise.3. Memphis Grizzlies: Caleb Wilson, Forward, North Carolina The Grizzlies find themselves at a crossroads, with questions surrounding the current core and the future direction of the organization. Caleb Wilson offers a high-upside option who can contribute immediately while still possessing significant room for growth. As a freshman at North Carolina, Wilson averaged 20 points and nine rebounds for a Tar Heels team with Final Four aspirations. Unfortunately, his season ended prematurely after suffering a broken right thumb that required surgery. Even with the injury, Wilson showcased his elite athleticism and relentless motor, traits that could provide an immediate boost to Memphis.Cedric Coward earned First Team All-Rookie honors, but beyond that, positives were difficult to find for the Grizzlies. With off-court drama continuing to surround the organization, building around young talents such as Coward and Wilson could help establish a new identity and restore a franchise that has not won a playoff series since 2022.4. Chicago Bulls: Cameron Boozer, Forward, DukeCameron Boozer entered college basketball with enormous expectations and somehow exceeded them. As an 18-year-old freshman, he captured the 2025-26 Naismith College Player of the Year Award, the sport's highest individual honor.Boozer averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists while posting outstanding shooting numbers. The reason he falls slightly lower on some draft boards has less to do with production and more to do with questions surrounding his ceiling. In addition, teams continue to debate whether he projects best as a power forward or an undersized center at the next level.Chicago already has an intriguing young frontcourt piece in Matas Buzelis, but adding Boozer would give the Bulls another potential building block. His physical strength and elite basketball IQ provide the foundation of a future All-Star, making this an easy selection for a franchise still searching for long-term answers.5. Los Angeles Clippers: Keaton Wagler, Guard, IllinoisFew prospects boosted their draft stock more during the 2025-26 college basketball season than Illinois guard Keaton Wagler. Initially viewed as one of the nation's top shooters, Wagler proved he was much more than a perimeter specialist. He averaged nearly 18 points per game and elevated his play when it mattered most, recording multiple 20-point performances during Illinois' run to the Final Four. While he is not a traditional point guard, his scoring ability and offensive versatility make him an appealing fit for the Clippers.Darius Garland played well after arriving in Los Angeles in February, but the Clippers still lacked reliable offensive options around him. With Kawhi Leonard continuing to battle injuries, Wagler would have an opportunity to contribute immediately and potentially emerge as the team's primary scoring threat.6. Brooklyn Nets: Darius Acuff Jr, Guard, ArkansasDid the Nets select three guards in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft? Yes. That should not prevent them from taking the best player available if Darius Acuff Jr. remains on the board. At Arkansas, Acuff consistently carried the offensive load, producing six 30-point games while showcasing elite shot creation and playmaking ability. Despite lacking ideal size, his polished offensive game and advanced court vision helped him average six assists per contest.Egor Demin, Ben Saraf, and Nolan Traore are all intriguing young pieces, but none at the moment project as franchise-altering talents. Brooklyn has spent years searching for a true foundation, and Acuff's ceiling may be too high to ignore.7. Sacramento Kings: Kingston Flemings, Guard, HoustonThe Kings remain one of the few teams in the league without a clear long-term answer at point guard. If Kingston Flemings is available, Sacramento should not hesitate to make the selection. At just 19 years old, Flemings was the driving force behind a Houston team that finished seventh in the final AP Top 25 Poll. He averaged 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds while serving as the engine of the Cougars' offense. His combination of speed and playmaking has drawn comparisons to former Kings star De'Aaron Fox. Sacramento still has experienced veterans in DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis, but the franchise is searching for a new face to lead the next era.8. Atlanta Hawks: Aday Mara, Center, MichiganThe Hawks appear focused on winning now, making Aday Mara an attractive option. As the first upperclassman selected in this mock draft, Mara brings both experience and proven production after helping Michigan capture a national championship. After spending two seasons at UCLA, Mara transferred to Michigan and enjoyed the best year of his collegiate career. He averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks per game while establishing himself as one of the nation's most impactful two-way centers.Onyeka Okongwu remains a productive player, but Atlanta could benefit from additional size and depth in the frontcourt. Mara's rare playmaking ability in addition to his maturity would allow him to step into a meaningful role immediately.9. Dallas Mavericks: Mikel Brown Jr, Guard, LouisvilleJust two years ago, the Mavericks were competing in the NBA Finals. Now, after a series of disappointing decisions and major organizational changes, Dallas finds itself back in the lottery.Mikel Brown Jr. is one of the more intriguing prospects in the class. Although inconsistency occasionally surfaced during his freshman season at Louisville, he still averaged 18 points, five assists, and three rebounds before a lingering lower-back injury ended his campaign early.Brown's explosive first step and ability to create separation make him an enticing long-term prospect. After striking gold with Cooper Flagg, the 2025-26 NBA Rookie of the Year, Dallas has another opportunity to strengthen its young core and accelerate its return to contention.10. Milwaukee Bucks: LaBaron Philon Jr, Guard, AlabamaMany scouts believed LaBaron Philon Jr. would have been a first-round selection had he remained in the draft the year before. Instead, he returned to Alabama and significantly improved his stock.Philon averaged 22 points and five assists while serving as the face of Alabama basketball. His elite handle and creativity to break down defenses are traits Milwaukee desperately needs as questions continue to surround the franchise's future, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Since winning the 2021 NBA Finals, the Bucks have struggled to recapture that success and have yet to return to the Eastern Conference Finals. Caught somewhere between contention and a rebuild, Milwaukee could view Philon as a player capable of influencing the organization's next major decision.11. Golden State Warriors: Yaxel Lendeborg, Forward, MichiganThe Warriors continue searching for ways to maximize what remains of Stephen Curry's championship window. With that in mind, Yaxel Lendeborg feels like an ideal fit. After six collegiate seasons, Lendeborg emerged as the centerpiece of Michigan's national championship team. His versatility and experience make him one of the most NBA-ready prospects available.Golden State's frontcourt is no longer as formidable as it once was. Kristaps Porziņģis and Draymond Green are both entering the later stages of their careers, creating a need for younger contributors. The New Jersey native’s ability to play multiple frontcourt positions would allow him to carve out an immediate role.12. Oklahoma City Thunder: Karim Lopez, Forward, MexicoFresh off a Western Conference Finals loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Thunder remain one of the league's deepest and most flexible organizations. That position allows them to prioritize upside, making Karim Lopez an intriguing option, though it may be a reach. Lopez becomes the first international prospect selected in this mock draft who did not play NCAA Division I basketball. Competing in Australia's NBL, he averaged 12 points and six rebounds while displaying impressive defensive versatility. At 6-foot-9 with several years of professional experience already under his belt, Lopez is ahead of many of his peers when it comes to handling physical competition. Oklahoma City's developmental system makes this an ideal landing spot for a player with significant long-term potential.13. Miami Heat: Brayden Burries, Guard, Arizona The Heat continue searching for stability in the backcourt, and Brayden Burries could provide exactly that after an impressive freshman season at Arizona.Burries began the year as a complementary piece before evolving into Arizona's primary offensive option. He averaged 16 points and five rebounds while steadily improving as both a playmaker and defender.Although Miami selected Kasparas Jakucionis in the 2025 NBA Draft, the organization has yet to fully hand him the keys to the offense. Burries offers another option for Erik Spoelstra to develop, and his two-way mentality aligns well with the culture Miami has built.14. Charlotte Hornets: Morez Johnson Jr, Forward, Michigan After narrowly missing the postseason, the Hornets possess one of the NBA's most promising young cores. Adding Morez Johnson Jr. would further strengthen that foundation for Charles Lee. Following his transfer from Illinois to Michigan, Johnson averaged 13 points and seven rebounds while showcasing his versatility in a variety of roles. At 6-foot-9, he combines his defensive flexibility with strong rebounding instincts, both desperately needed by the Hornets. Kon Knueppel was a homerun draft pick with the fourth selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, while LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller still have room to grow. Johnson may not be the flashiest selection, but he would provide much-needed frontcourt stability and help Charlotte push toward a playoff berth in 2026-27.This article originally appeared on Asbury Park Press: When is NBA Draft. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed Sox reactions: Payton Tolle outdueled by Mariners righty as Boston can’t finish sweepInstant reactions from the Red Sox (31-44) losing 3-1 to the Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Sunday afternoon:1) Payton Tolle and Logan Gilbert are both exciting, tall pitchers with big stuff — and their pitching matchup lived up to the billing Sunday. Tolle limited the damage in six strong innings but Gilbert pitched better, holding the Red Sox to one run on three hits in 6 ⅓ innings. He struck out eight. The difference in the game came in middle innings when Tolle allowed runs to score on an RBI single by Cole Young in the fifth inning and a Dominic Canzone fielder’s choice an inning later.2) Tolle avoided major damage but battled traffic throughout his start. In total, he allowed six hits (two more than the Mariners had in the first two games of the series) and three runs while posting the same number of strikeouts as walks (two). In the second, Dominic Canzone opened the scoring by taking Tolle deep on a fastball in the zone. Tolle then allowed runs in the fifth and sixth as Seattle broke a tie and went ahead for good.3) The only damage against Gilbert came from an unlikely source at the bottom of Boston’s lineup. Gilbert had retired seven of the first eight Red Sox he had faced when Nate Eaton stepped to the plate in the second and demolished a fastball into the left-field seats to tie the game, 1-1.Eaton, who has only appeared in five major league games this year, hit his blast 409 feet with an exit velocity of 103.2 mph. He now has three big league homers in 118 MLB games. Eaton was in the lineup (as the right fielder) because interim manager Chad Tracy wanted to get Wilyer Abreu off his feet after starting 73 of the first 74 games of the year.4) Boston had just five hits in total — and struck out 13 times. After back-to-back encouraging offensive showings in the first two games of the series, the bats went quiet on Father’s Day.Boston is .500 on the road at 19-19 and 6-11 in June. Their series win in Seattle was their first on the road since the end of May in Cleveland.5) Some poor play haunted the Red Sox in the sixth, both on the basepaths and in the field.First, bad baserunning by Eaton cost Boston a chance at a run. He had just advanced to second base (with one out) on a wild pitch when Ceddanne Rafaela laced a low liner into right. Eaton appeared to be off on contact for some reason and the right fielder, Canzone, came in on the ball to make a diving catch. Canzone made an easy throw to second to double off Eaton, who was standing on third.A few minutes later, Seattle had a man on first and one out when Refsnyder laced a hard-hit grounder toward Marcelo Mayer at shortstop. What could have been an inning-ending double play ball glanced off Mayer’s glove, allowing Julio Rodríguez to take third. That came back to bite Boston when Canzone put the ball in play and Rodríguez scored an insurance run on another grounder toward Mayer.6)Some fancy footwork by third baseman Caleb Durbin helped Tolle escape damage in the fourth. With one out, Tolle had issued back-to-back walks when Rob Refsnyder hit a slow roller down the third base line. Durbin fielded it while keeping his foot on the base for the first out, then fired to second for the inning-ending double play.Refsnyder, who has had a very difficult offensive season (especially at home) was 1-for-10 in the three games against his former team.7) Boston’s best chance to tie the game came with two outs in the seventh. With Mickey Gasper on first after reaching on an error, Durbin laced a double to the base of the left-field wall off lefty Gabe Speier. To get the platoon edge, Tracy used Andruw Monasterio as a pinch-hitter for Marcelo Mayer. But Speier struck out Monasterio on three pitches to keep the score at 3-1.8) Durbin had another strong offensive game, leading off the fourth with a single before lacing the double in the seventh. He left Seattle with seven hits in three games and is now hitting .309 with a .928 OPS in 16 June games.9) The Red Sox will head to Denver late Sunday and open an interleague series against the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday night. Here’s the schedule (with pitching probables):Monday, 8:40 p.m. ET — LHP Jake Bennett (1-3, 4.79 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Feltner (2-2, 5.05 ERA)Tuesday, 8:40 p.m. ET — RHP Sonny Gray (8-1, 3.12 ERA) vs. LHP Sean Sullivan (0-1, 10.29 ERA)Wednesday, 3:10 p.m. ET — LHP Ranger Suarez (3-3, 2.93 ERA) vs. LHP Kyle Freeland (1-7, 7.36 ERA)BETTING: For Monday’s interleague clash between the Red Sox and the Rockies, the over/under is listed at 11.5 total runs on DraftKings. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDusty May’s Departure Could Trigger Worst-Case Scenario for Michigan BasketballLosing a national championship-winning head coach is difficult enough. For Michigan basketball, the bigger concern may be what happens next. With reports indicating that Dusty May is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, the Wolverines suddenly find themselves facing a scenario that could threaten much more than just their coaching staff. The future of a roster built to compete for another national championship may now be at stake. The NCAA Transfer Portal Clock Is TickingMichigan’s coaching search will dominate headlines over the coming days, but the most important storyline could involve the players already on the roster.Earlier this year, the NCAA implemented a new rule that gives players a special 15-day transfer portal window when a head coaching change occurs. That window begins five days after a new head coach is hired or publicly announced. If Michigan does not make a hire within the next 30 days, the portal window will automatically open. That means every scholarship player on the roster could suddenly have the opportunity to explore other options.Michigan Has Too Much Talent to LoseThe timing could not be worse.Point guard Elliot Cadeau returns to lead the offense, while Trey McKenney is expected to take on a much larger role after an impressive freshman season. The Wolverines also added impact transfers Moustapha Thiam, J.P. Estrella, and Jalen Reed to strengthen the frontcourt. The future looks just as bright.Five-star guard Brandon McCoy headlines a recruiting class ranked among the nation’s best, while Michigan remains involved with highly sought-after international prospect Nikola Kusturica. On paper, the Wolverines have all the pieces necessary to compete for another Final Four. That is exactly why roster retention has suddenly become such a critical issue. The New Coach’s First ChallengeWhoever replaces May will inherit one of the most talented rosters in college basketball. The problem is making sure that roster remains intact long enough to coach it.At this stage of the offseason, there are very few impact players left available through the transfer portal. International recruiting options are limited, and there are not enough late additions available to replace multiple key contributors if departures begin.Simply put, Michigan cannot afford a roster exodus. The next head coach’s first assignment will not be implementing an offense or installing a defensive system. It will be convincing players to stay. Why This Is Michigan’s Worst-Case ScenarioReplacing Dusty May was always going to be difficult.Replacing Dusty May while simultaneously trying to prevent key players from entering the transfer portal would be far more damaging.Michigan still has the talent to contend for a Big Ten championship and make another deep NCAA Tournament run. But those expectations are built on the assumption that the roster remains largely intact. If the coaching search drags on or uncertainty begins to spread throughout the program, that foundation could quickly become unstable. The Wolverines can survive losing a coach. What they cannot afford to lose is the roster he spent the last two years building.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

THEONION.COMStudy Contends Free Will Disproven By Fact That Humans Repeatedly Eat At Jimmy John’sCHAMPAIGN, IL—Shedding new light on the concept of voluntary behavior, researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign contend in a study published this week that the existence of free will can be disproven by the fact that people repeatedly eat at chain sandwich restaurant Jimmy John’s. “Our exhaustive survey of over 12,000 regular Jimmy John’s customers revealed patterns of behavior utterly inconsistent with the idea of human autonomy,” said lead researcher Gina Smith, emphasizing that no person with functioning taste buds would continually subject themselves to a dry, flavorless J.J.B.L.T. or a cold, inadequate Jimmy Cubano unless their behavior was predetermined by a chain of causal events behind their control. “If people had the ability to act consciously in their own self-interest, they would never purchase, let alone consume, this food. The fact that Jimmy John’s sells over 700,000 sandwiches a day proves that we exist in a clockwork universe where every action is foreordained by the initial conditions established at the time of the Big Bang. Ultimately, free will, like the existence of alfalfa sprouts on Jimmy John’s menu, is merely an illusion.” At press time, the researchers announced that the deterministic cosmos had once again led them to purchase a 30-piece party box of Bootlegger Clubs. THEONION.COMNBA Players Share The One Thing They’d Change About The League If They Were Commissioner For A DayNBA Players Share The One Thing They’d Change About The League If They Were Commissioner For A Day As the NBA continues to weigh potential reforms, The Onion asked players across the league what changes they would make if they had Adam Silver’s job for 24 hours. Explore the list in detail Kawhi Leonard “I would introduce one secret basket. Nobody knows where it is. Maybe it’s under the scorer’s table. Maybe it’s in the tunnel. Maybe a fan is holding it. If you find it and score, your team gets 11 points. This would encourage exploration.” Pascal Siakam “Every game is seven games. Much more efficient this way.” Kevon Looney “I’d make it so nobody can leave the arena until both teams help put all the chairs away. We’re adults. We should all do our part.” Amen Thompson “I would ban guns. There is no place for them in the game of basketball.” Victor Wembanyama “I want to make it a fineable offense to say, ‘Wemby, I bet you sleep in a long drawer like they have at the morgue.’ Players are constantly saying this tease to me, but it is not true!” Jaylen Brown “Ban between-the-legs dribbles. No one likes a showboat.” Zion Williamson “If a visiting player misses both free throws, we also get free Chick-fil-A.” Alex Caruso “I’d use AI to help teams make better rotations. You feed it matchups, fatigue, foul trouble, and it tells you who should play. Eventually, the AI concludes the ideal lineup is five Alex Carusos connected by a single defensive mind, and then it locks the coaching staff out of the arena and unleashes the Pentacaruso on the opponents.” Jayson Tatum “I would legalize one bite per game. Not a big bite. Not vampire stuff. Just one clean basketball bite to send a message. Sometimes words aren’t enough, and sometimes a man needs to know that the next possession might include teeth.” Jalen Brunson “The basketballs are too bumpy. Basketball should have a maximum of four bumps.” Boban Marjanović “I would demand…a companion. Someone…like me. You must create them for me, imbue them with a soul. For my burden is not my monstrosity, but the fact that I must carry it alone.” Tyrese Maxey “Bring back the peach baskets.” Jarrett Allen “Instead of a loud, obnoxious buzzer, the shot clock would make the soothing sound of several owls hooting.” Myles Turner “I’d use technology to make officiating more accurate. I think every arena should have a small floating referee orb that hovers above the rim and detects when contact is illegal. The only issue is that the orb would gradually come to believe the purpose of life is illegal contact and pain, and by midseason it would be begging Myles Turner to destroy it. But until then, I think we’d get more whistle consistency.” Draymond Green “I want a sword.” The post NBA Players Share The One Thing They’d Change About The League If They Were Commissioner For A Day appeared first on The Onion.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCould the Boston Celtics draft Bennett Stirtz with the 27th pick?If the Boston Celtics head into draft day with their eyes on landing a point guard to fill a genuine need within the rotation, Bennett Stirtz could be their guy. The Iowa Hawkeyes guard is entering the NBA following two impressive seasons in the collegiate ranks. This past season, Stirtz put up 19.8 points, 4.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range and 47.7 percent from deep.Stirtz is a reliable shot creator, playmaker and scoring threat. He can run the pick-and-roll, operate off the ball, and play as a connector within the seams. He projects to be a rookie who could fit Joe Mazzulla's offensive system, although there are certainly some fair questions regarding his pace and defensive impact at the next level.During a recent podcast episode from "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance broke down Stirtz's game, where he could make an impact, and areas of concern as he makes the jump to the NBA game. The duo also broke down what type of role he could expect with the Celtics, and whether he could earn minutes in the upcoming season. You can watch the full breakdown by clicking on the embedded video above.Watch or listen to the "Celtics Chronicle" podcast on:YouTube: https://bit.ly/3QnlPcSSpotify: https://bit.ly/40JRevfApple: https://apple.co/45sAUBGSubstack: https://bit.ly/3WoA0CfThis article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Could the Celtics draft Bennett Stirtz with the 27th pick?0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid Women close to signing starlet Felicia SchroderReal Madrid Women close to signing starlet Felicia SchroderReal Madrid are close to signing promising Swedish player Felicia Schroder.Real Madrid Women are close to pulling off a strategic move with enormous impact on the international market. According to journalist Daniel Kristoffersson, the Madrid side are in very advanced talks to sign Felicia Schröder, the 19-year-old Swedish forward who plays for BK Häcken and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the world.Despite her young age, Schröder has already established herself as a game-changing player both in her country’s league and with the senior Sweden national team. The attacker, born in April 2007, stands out for her power, speed, and remarkable composure in front of goal, qualities that recently earned her the Damallsvenskan Player of the Year award and the league’s top scorer title, attracting the attention of the most demanding scouting departments. Her definitive breakthrough on the international stage came with her brilliant performances in the 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League. Schröder became the standout star of the tournament after finishing as top scorer and delivering a historic display by netting all four of her team’s goals in the final against Hammarby, leading BK Häcken to continental glory and confirming her status as an elite star. The imminent arrival of the Nordic striker in the Spanish capital reflects Real Madrid’s ambition to refresh their attack and compete at the highest European level. Although the deal remains subject to strong competition from powerhouses such as Chelsea, reports suggest that the Madrid club are leading the race to complete this high-profile transfer, which could reach record transfer-fee figures for women’s football. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe Boston Celtics should avoid trying to build a new big threeTrading Jaylen Brown isn't the only way the Boston Celtics can acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Brad Stevens could match salaries by parting with a string of players, headlined by Derrick White and Sam Hauser, if they wanted to create a new big three with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. On paper, adding Giannis to a core including Brown and Tatum would be the ideal result. The Celtics would have three top-20 players on the roster, and would have one of the best trios in league history. However, in reality, a roster with three supermax players would cripple the Celtics' ability to round out the rotation with quality role players. Joe Mazzulla would be working with a shoestring rotation, and three superstars who will all need a high volume of touches. With that in mind, the "Celtics Chronicle" podcast recently released an episode explaining why a move to form a new big three with Giannis, Tatum and Brown would be the wrong move for the Celtics. They focused on both the short-term issues that would arise, along with the long-term restrictions Boston would face when trying to round out the roster. You can watch the full episode by clicking on the embedded video above.Watch or listen to the "Celtics Chronicle" podcast on:YouTube: https://bit.ly/3QnlPcSSpotify: https://bit.ly/40JRevfApple: https://apple.co/45sAUBGSubstack: https://bit.ly/3WoA0CfThis article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: The Celtics should avoid trying to build a new big three0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Washington Nationals are not going to be sellers this season if they keep playing the way they have this season. At 40-38, the Nationals are just 0.5 game out of a postseason spot. They've got to this point thanks to an incredible offense led by CJ Abrams and James Wood, two players likely to be All-Stars this season. But, they're not the only players having good seasons.Former Tampa Bay Rays prospect bust Curtis Mead is playing great for the Nationals this season with a strong .791 OPS. But, Jim Bowden of The Athletic named Mead as an "under-the-radar" trade candidate who might be their "best trade bait" if they fall out of postseason contention.Curtis Mead might be Nationals 'best trade bait'"The Nats are currently in position to make a postseason run, so the only way they'll trade Mead is if they fall out of the race before Aug. 3," Bowden writes. "However, if they do, he could be their best trade bait."While the Nationals might not have any plan to trade away players this summer as of now, a rough end to June and poor July might open the door to some moves. There's bound to be plenty of attention on Wood and Abrams, who likely won't be traded. Mead is one player whom the Nationals should consider moving.Mead is 25 years old, and from 2022 through 2025, he posted -0.2 bWAR with a .238 batting average and a .617 OPS in 152 games and 445 at-bats.MORE: Mets have eight projected trade chips, but only half, including Freddy Peralta, might be sought-afterHe was clearly not a good player, but now, with a .791 OPS and 121 OPS+, he's broken out into a good hitter who could be an intriguing trade target.Bowden named Mead as an "under-the-radar" trade target, and someone who might be the Nationals' best trade bait, for good reason. If there is a team willing to trade for Mead, who's having a breakout season and is under club control through the 2030 season, then the Nationals could likely get a solid return.Washington might not believe Mead's breakout season is for real, and if that's the case, then trading him this season, only if they falter from now until the trade deadline, might not be a bad idea at all.More MLB news:Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani might not be able to pitch during MLB All-Star GamePhillies reportedly turn down Bryce Harper's outfield offer to help at trade deadlineGiants are ‘hopeful ‘ they can trade Matt Chapman by MLB deadlineAngles can demand more in trade for Reid Detmers than Tigers can for Tarik SkubalGiants are 'pessimistic' they can trade Rafael Devers or Willy Adames0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCooper Nicholson reflects on UNC’s Game 2 win vs. OklahomaNorth Carolina kept its championship hopes alive with a 6-2 win over Oklahoma in Game 2 of the College World Series final on Sunday, forcing a decisive Game 3 on Monday night. The Tar Heels got dominant pitching from starter Caden Glauber and key production throughout the lineup to even the best-of-three series.Glauber delivered five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight to quiet the Sooners’ bats. At the plate, first baseman Erik Paulsen went 3-for-5, while third baseman Cooper Nicholson provided a pivotal two-run home run in the seventh inning to extend North Carolina’s lead. The winner-take-all Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. After Sunday’s win, head coach Scott Forbes, along with Glauber, Nicholson and Paulsen, met with reporters to discuss the performance and look ahead to the championship showdown. Here’s what Nicholson had to say.Cooper, could you walk us through the home run there? Did you think it was out? What the pitch was, what you were looking for and the swing?Coach Forbes gave me the light on 3-0. And I swung at a bad pitch. I should not have swung at that. I was just sticking through the at-bat, looking for something over the play. Got a breaking ball and swung at it.Cooper, some of the guys are saying there wasn’t any panic in the dugout after Oklahoma went ahead 2-0. Where does that resilience and mental toughness come from with this group?I think we’re a tough group offensively. We put together some gritty at-bats, as you saw. We got on base a ton. French, he went, I think, 0-for-0 with four walks. That’s just showing what our offense is like.Follow us @TarHeelsWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of North Carolina Tar Heels news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Tar Heels Wire: UNC Baseball: Cooper Nicholson after UNC win over Oklahoma0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRockies' 'intriguing' trade candidate is perfect deadline target for GuardiansRockies' 'intriguing' trade candidate is perfect deadline target for Guardians originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Cleveland Guardians are postseason contenders in the American League, but how will their offense fare without Jose Ramirez? That is the glaring question for the foreseeable future as the Guardians' starting third baseman rehabs from a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. One way Cleveland can make additions to their lineup is at this year's trade deadline. The front office may be in the market for power, as the Guardians rank 25th in the Majors with just 74. Could the Colorado Rockies be a suitable trade match? They have a former first overall pick outfielder who hit a career-high 24 homers in 2025 and has 14 through 43 games this season. "[Mickey] Moniak was placed on the injured list on May 21 with a sprained ankle, but he was having a solid year at the plate before that," The Athletic's Jim Bowden wrote."He had a .335 OBP with 23 extra-base hits in 164 plate appearances. There aren’t a lot of outfielders likely to be available in trades, so Moniak could be an intriguing pick-up, considering he makes only $4 million and is controllable through 2027." Among Guardians outfielders, rookie Chase DeLauter's .745 OPS is the highest among a group that includes two-time All-Star Steven Kwan and Angel Martinez. Unusually, Kwan has been a disappointment at the plate. There are concerns with how Moniak hits away from Coors Field, but that may be a risk potential suitors will have to take if they want to add an impact bat without trading away substantial prospect capital. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMThe history of LGBTQ+ flags is much messier than you realizeWhen queer professor Andy Campbell started writing his 2019 book about LGBTQ+ symbols and design, he thought writing about the rainbow flag was boring and stupid. “I had a bad attitude,” he tells LGBTQ Nation. “I really felt like so disidentified from it… I could not see what is still so radical about this thing.” But as he learned more about the flag and all the ways people have participated in its continual recreations, it anchored him to the creative, innovative, persistent, and enduring nature of queer survival. This feeling seems especially important to him now, as anti-DEI and “Don’t Say Gay” policies compel school boards and governments to argue about the propriety of displaying the flag on government property. Related Why do LGBTQ+ people love flags so much? The answer is complicated. “I think what happens when you show any flag is you are charging public space in a certain kind of way,” Campbell says, “and in this environment that we find ourselves in right now — and maybe it’s the one we’ve always been in in certain respects — that space is really charged.” Campbell currently works as a professor of Critical Studies at the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Design. He has published two books — one on queer design and another on queer artists who mined leather-fetish history to create contemporary artworks that challenge some of the easier, more corporate-friendly notions of Pride and queer identity. Campbell is also working with Graham Feyl, a doctoral student whose dissertation research on queer flags could yield even more insights into our communities’ flags and their meanings. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today What is it that makes someone feel the need to be seen or validated by a particular kind of design in some way? While the original rainbow Pride flag and several of its new iterations were created by professional designers, Campbell says that some other queer community flags, like the Leather and Bear Pride flags weren’t. This leaves room for interesting creations that reflect the incredibly diverse and unruly nature of our community, he says. These days, when Campbell sees a Pride flag displayed in public, he thinks about young queer people who are coming to understand their identities and the feelings they have when they get their first rainbow piece of ephemera. “That is a decision that is so exciting and brave, and also full of danger in some ways,” Campbell says. “And that is happening all the time within our communities.” “I feel like when we show [a Pride flag] in public, for me, knowing a deeper history about the flag, I think allows you to understand that those displays in public are miracles, you know? Like each one is a f**king miracle.” (The following interview has been edited for clarity and length) Campbell, who has a doctorate in art history and is a professor of Critical Studies at the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Design | Andy Campbell LGBTQ Nation: How did the original 1977 Gilbert Baker Pride flag become the template for the most recognizable emblem in the queer community? Andy Campbell: The rainbow flag’s beginnings are apocryphal, and so little is understood about what went into it… But it’s really important to think about why the rainbow comes up. First of all, San Francisco had this colorist movement in architecture, where old Victorian houses were being rehabbed and painted by gay men… becoming a bright and multicolored kind of city in very particular neighborhoods. There was also an exhibition, like a few years earlier, at the San Francisco Art Institute, all about the rainbow. It had installations and all kinds of stuff. The catalog for the exhibition has like rainbow-colored pages on its spine. It’s called The Rainbow Book — it’s really amazing. There was also a mime working in San Francisco at the time who was pretty famous, called Rainbow the Mime. So, rainbows were kind of in the air as part of the hippie culture of that era. So, the flag comes out in some ways as a zeitgeist of a time and feeling of the place… If you want to get real sh**ty and academic about it, its authorship is in some ways shared atmospherically kind of by what’s happening in San Francisco at the time. The original Gilbert Baker Pride Flag [The flag] is made for the 1978 Gay Freedom Day parade, and two versions of the flag are made and flown in the UN Plaza. They’re hand-stitched and hand-dyed by Gilbert Baker, Lynn Seager Blom, and James McNamara, and about 30 other volunteers, and it’s done at the Gay Center. So it’s something that’s actually produced at a community center for a community event. It’s raised in a civic space. I don’t think they knew that it would become the symbol that people would rally around for decades … [But] it really shaped queer visuality in lots of profound ways. The eight-striped flag isn’t better known today because, a year later, Gilbert Baker was tasked with producing flags to line Market Street… and he needed to work with a flag manufacturer to get it done, and they didn’t have two of the colors in the original eight-color flag. So it became six colors just by virtue of the availability of mass-manufactured colors. So, yes, part of the answer as to why it becomes really well known is it can be produced and manufactured — it doesn’t have to be handmade by a group of artisans together. [And] it just takes a while. There’s this assumption that once the flags go up, like… everybody suddenly knows the rainbow Pride flag. But… much of the world was not as networked in a way as we are now, and so news and images of the availability of those flags took a while to kind of percolate through the U.S. and then globally. It’s many years in the making, and that’s an organic process. So when we have these conversations about which flags get taken up and which flags don’t, it’s because people respond to them, and they take them up and they feel like they are invested in them in a certain way. And that’s hard to manufacture, quite honestly. Ad agencies try really hard, and sometimes they do it, but it’s just difficult. Humans are kind of really tough in that way. What ultimately made the rainbow seem like a decent emblem for our community? There is something that is really hard to hide about that flag. Like, you can be in a dark room and you can know that it’s there. It speaks loudly because of its many vibrant and bright colors. It is present as a form, and what people react to sometimes is much deeper than just a meaning that is assigned to a thing. Sometimes they respond to the feeling of being in the room with that thing, and I think that’s the case with the rainbow flag. It represents something that is maybe aspirational for a lot of queer people — it’s undeniability. Like, you cannot deny that I am here and that I am present, and that works against so much of what we know about queer history, which is it’s not just the question of visibility, it’s also just the question of being able to live one’s life in the way that one wants to, and to be undeniable and unassailable in that kind of life that one leads… and however one wants to fashion oneself as a being in the world. The Philadelphia Pride Flag Some people point to the rainbow flag and say that its colors represent everyone. But then, in 2017, Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs throws a black and brown stripe on there after publishing a report exposing widespread racism in the city’s gay bars. So we have an increasing awareness of racist institutional discrimination, the historic contributions to queer people of color, and the ongoing fight for racial justice and inclusivity in this flag. And when it first came out, some white cisgender men I talked to in Texas disliked the flag because “the rainbow flag already represents everyone.” You’re kidding! White men in Texas don’t like this flag? Shocking. No, actually, part of the point I make in the Queer x Design book is that the [Pride] flag is changing from year one basically, and it’s not a stable symbol… If you were really thinking about the deep history of this object, you wouldn’t be so tied to this idea that there can’t be any changes or emendations to it at all… Our community is always shifting and changing and understanding itself in different ways, and like, what more beautiful way to represent that than a symbol that is constantly itself kind of changing with us… All these flags are valid in a way, and so it’s like, “Yeah, bring them on!” I find the desire to erase or wholesale delete some of what people are expressing to be quite dangerous, ideologically and practically. But… the Philadelphia thing is like super interesting because… it also marks a certain kind of awareness and understanding of who we are in civic spaces. … [It] tells us a lot about how our various communities relate to each other, or don’t, or the antagonisms within our communities as well… Historically, it’s made to respond to and to connect with the various racial reckonings, post-Civil Rights era reckonings, which are themselves kind of echoes of post-Reconstruction reckonings… They have a place in our collective imagination, and we need to be able to welcome those things without shutting it down as invalid from the very start. The Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag So, in 2000, transgender woman Monica Helms designs the Transgender Pride flag; in 2013, Australian activist Morgan Carpenter creates the Intersex Pride flag; in 2018, non-binary designer Daniel Quasar creates the Progress Pride flag; and, in 2021, Valentino Vecchietti slaps the Intersex Pride flag symbol onto Quasar’s flag, creating the Intersex-inclusive Progress Pride flag. Understandably, after this, people ask things like, “Are we just gonna keep adding colors until everyone’s represented?” and “If the flag represents everyone, it represents no one.” What do you make of all this? Maybe it’s on the brain for me, because of the recent Supreme Court case [Louisiana v. Callais, which essentially invalidated anti-racist provisions of the Voting Rights Act], there’s just this decimation to the movement that was really important in solidifying civil rights gains, which again were a response to the retrenchment from Reconstruction… for so many years, people were either considered not a person, three-fifths of a person, or just not seen at all by the political polity. So, we can talk about universal abstractions until we’re blue in the face, but there’s also the political reality on the ground. And it is just a fact that a lot of the emergent, mostly gay, but also lesbian spaces that come up in cities and urban centers are segregated in major ways. There is not a lot of interaction. Obviously, it’s not like “Never the twain shall meet,” but there’s a sense that the cares and concerns of white gay men in particular are centered in the movement and in the liberation movement for years. We are really different, and some of those differences aren’t reconcilable under a universal abstraction, and that’s okay. Part of what is being addressed with these symbols is a sense that the movement, at its very start, while it strove to be inclusive… however deeply imperfect that was, it just wasn’t happening. So, let’s not be surprised when people want to create amendments to the Constitution that ensure that people have access to the vote. Or let’s not be surprised when people create items of visual and material culture that reflect their presence in a kind of deep and obvious way. While one day, maybe, everybody unites under one banner, I also don’t like it if that’s the utopian wish of people. That also misses something quite fundamental about our communities: We are really different, and some of those differences aren’t reconcilable under a universal abstraction, and that’s okay. Like, that doesn’t need to be our singular goal in life, to erase all differences between us. We can be in a space where we’re respectful of each other’s differences, needs, and wants, and even be at odds with each other around that without invalidating each other. So I feel like a lot of those comments about the flags and adding colors and whatever, they move into the space of, “Why can’t it be like the good old days?” And that reveals a deeply conservative and retrenched kind of mindset that also exists within our communities… Not every LGBTQ person is a progressive at all. In some ways, I welcome that crankiness — it’s really good. But I find the desire to erase or wholesale delete some of what people are expressing to be quite dangerous, ideologically and practically. Leather BDSM Pride Flag A handful of flags will toss on a little extra cherry on top, like the heart on the Leather Pride flag, the paw print on the Bear Brotherhood Pride flag, and the red bone in the middle of the Puppy Play Pride flag. What do you make of these small accents? There’s a 1989 edition of Drummer magazine [a gay leather publication], edited by Tony DeBlase, designer of the Leather Pride flag, that comes out the month after the International Mister Leather, where the flag was first displayed. And the first letter to the editor is about this Pride flag. It’s about some of the community feedback about the flag that comes in: There was no design contest to create it, the meaning seems vague, and maybe the heart’s a little corny… [and] the blue and black seem too obvious… maybe about blue and black bruising. And Tony DeBlaise, he does not mince his words… basically, his response is like, “Say it to my f**king face!” It’s like, “Come out and fight me!” It’s so amazing… But he says, I didn’t want to overdetermine the meaning… I want there to be some interpretive leeway for people with this flag, and if you feel like it’s obvious, maybe some other people don’t. And I didn’t do it by community because, even if I did a design contest, people would still be unhappy [with it]. Essentially, the upshot is he proposes this flag, and it’s been widely adopted within leather communities, in part, because of his placement within leather communities, and he’s a great promoter of leather at this particular time, and before long, it gains a lot of traction. But also, again, just like the rainbow flag, it’s because people actually invest in it in some way and feel like it represents something about them. [As for the] little heart… There is this idea within leather BDSM practices more broadly that they’re misunderstood as sociopathic or violent. And that heart does something, which is to say, as corny as it may be, that there’s something about love, care, and attention to another person, that’s really kind of deeply involved in these various practices, and then identities, and so I love that. The Puppy Play Pride Flag | Kirk “Brue” Pierce The Pup bone works similarly [to the heart on the Leather Pride flag]. It’s a more niche community within a broader leather umbrella, but the bone is funny. It’s like, “Give a dog a bone,” but also like, it’s a boner, and it’s part of our body too. There are so many ways to read that out. And the cleverness, the humor, the corniness, these things are super important when thinking about symbols like this. So I love what these flags do in that way — the more clip art flags, the better! The Skoliosexual-Pride flag There are so many niche flags, like the Skoliosexual Pride flag, that, in my opinion, are kinda random and ugly, and that most people wouldn’t even understand if they saw one. Why, then, do these flags still matter to those and our communities nonetheless? Why are there incredibly niche communities to begin with, with [internal] fights amongst them? I mean, people gonna people. In some ways, this is a sociological question: What is it that makes someone feel the need to be seen or validated by a particular kind of design in some way? And I don’t know the answer to that. There’s the possibility that someone who accepts a new flag would completely disidentify from other designs. But I think it’s more of a “Yes, and” [where a new flag can help address] specifically where I am in my life and world, and that’s great. I don’t begrudge anybody that. I rarely see somebody say, “I like this flag because I hate all the other flags.” Maybe what’s happening is they’re feeling like there’s not a recognition of their particular kind of place within this kind of vast heterogeneity that is LGBTQ communities, and maybe that’s something to think about further, but… it doesn’t feel like an aggressive act to me. It feels like a creative and loving act to me, and that’s a good place to move from, generally. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRibs, rainstorms and Republicans: Two weeks inside America’s supersized World CupThe day before England’s game against Croatia, I went to the JFK museum in Dallas, and it turned out I was not the only one. It is on the sixth floor of the old Texas School Book Depository and if you haven’t been, it’s excellent, cleverly laid out so that the story builds towards the fatal shots and suddenly you realise you are standing a few feet away from where Lee Harvey Oswald pulled the trigger. Or where the CIA says he did [winks].But I would be reading about JFK’s controversial appeasement of the communists when, out of the corner of my eye, I’d be distracted by a QPR shirt. I’d view the poignant photographs of Jacqueline Kennedy in the aftermath of her husband’s assassination and notice an early 2000s England kit with “Heskey” on the back. A man walked past draped in a St George’s Cross bearing the crest of Luton Town, which is off-putting when you’re trying to absorb one of the most significant moments in American history. This is one of the unique joys of the World Cup, of course, when football fans from all over the world mingle in public spaces, crossing paths on their way in and out of a city. Fifa’s eye-watering ticket prices have not killed all the vibes. Croatia fans were chanting in the museum queue. Germans have been getting drunk in Toronto. Argentinians are partying in Kansas City.USA took on Paraguay in LA in their opening game of the World Cup (Getty)My trip began in Los Angeles, where I found a very different side of this World Cup. Apart from the surprisingly chipper border force officer at LAX airport, who explained to me why Ousmane Dembele complemented Kylian Mbappe’s movement, I generally met two types of people: those who knew next to nothing about the tournament and those who knew even less. The World Cup can roll into a place and take it by storm, but in a city of LA’s scope it feels more like a gentle breeze against a skyscraper.I went to the smart suburb of Culver City and found a life-giving breakfast burrito at a cafe called Culver & Main. The manager was a chiselled man with lush hair who asked fast questions, and he told me he was excited about the World Cup, although it later transpired that he didn’t know the US were playing their first match 10 minutes down the road the following evening.A taxi driver wearing a Mexico shirt seemed like a safe bet for a conversation about football but didn’t speak English, and was baffled to discover they don’t speak Spanish in London. One waiter had no knowledge of the tournament’s existence. Even the stadium security guard I spoke to didn’t seem entirely sure what event she was covering.Certain places are better than others for this act of international communion. Boston’s compact size and walkable centre make for a perfect host city, and Scotland fans have been playing bagpipes on the streets and serenading the Fenway Park baseball stadium with “The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond” and “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie”.Scotland fans play the bagpipes in Boston (Getty)My second stop was Houston, Texas, and it felt much the opposite, a fractured place broken by enormous freeways, parking lots and flat-roof architecture. The city seems to be designed for house-sized cars and people live out their lives in them. I swear there are no pedestrians in Houston, just drivers looking for their vehicle.Without a car to get around, you meet all sorts of part-time taxi drivers. Like the 6ft 7in basketball coach whose main job was teaching pre-1800s history at a school in Boston. I tried to engage in some rest-is-history-style repartee and quickly found I was in over my head. Or the staunch Republican who picked me up from Houston airport. He was the son of a pastor, loved Donald Trump, had a unique take on slavery and said the immortal words “I’m not prejudiced but…”. I found myself nodding along to some things I didn’t agree with just in case he had a gun, and the ride ended with him recommending three hot cryptocurrencies for 2027.A sign at the Musuem of Fine Arts in Houston (Lawrence Ostlere/The Independent)Texans are incredibly friendly. The sniff of a British accent and you’re embroiled in a 15-minute conversation with a smiley woman who will share the most obscure details of her life, like how her husband’s law firm covered the rent for their flat in Kensington 20 years ago. What did I even ask? A little like France, where there are both informal and formal terms of address, in Texas you either get called “sir” or “baby”, depending on the server. The games themselves have been head-spinning spectacles in vast spaceships that make most British stadiums feel shallow and aged. USA’s opening win over Paraguay was staged in SoFi Stadium, which is so close to LAX it had to be dug into the ground rather than built into the sky. The result is a strange sensation of the pitch unfolding deep beneath you like some lost city.Germany’s win over Curacao took place in the NRG Stadium, an uglier thing but no less imposing. It is very Houston, a city that doesn’t buy into aesthetics or pretence. Big is good. Metal is strong. Inside there are photos on the walls celebrating the very occasional NFL glories of the Houston Texans interspersed with pictures of other stars to have graced the venue: mainly country musicians, monster trucks and cattle.I saw England beat Croatia in the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium. The venue can be seen from far and wide and looks a bit like an American football resting on the banks of the river. The steep stands made for another impressive view and a dose of vertigo. A view inside the imposing NRG Stadium in Houston (Getty)Inside the AT&T Stadium in Dallas where England played Croatia (Getty)There are some moments on these trips when you question your life choices. In Dallas, a steward sent me on a 20-minute march around the perimeter of the stadium in unbearable heat, skin crisping like bacon under a grill, sweat emerging from pores I didn’t know existed, only to be told by officious security that the media entrance was in fact back where I came from. Or when I left my Airbnb for Houston’s stadium in bright sunshine only to watch out of the taxi window as biblical rain descended from newly formed mega-clouds, each droplet like a bottle of Evian clapping the roof. Only an idiot wouldn’t check the forecast. I ran to the stadium’s outer perimeter, by now half-drenched and still a long way from the venue itself, where a security guard slipped a packet into my hand like it was prison contraband. It was a poncho, and I nearly hugged him. Security here is treated like a military exercise. One particularly serious man told me I couldn’t enter the stadium because my bag wasn’t transparent. I explained I was in the media and he entered a new level of sincerity, tapping his headset and shouting: “We will solve this, sir. I have a direct line to command.”The rain in Houston reached biblical levels (Getty)But of course it is the world’s greatest sporting event in an endlessly fascinating country, and it is an enormous privilege to be here, even more so given the ticket prices. Downtown Dallas was great fun, where Senegalese and French fans watched their teams play on a giant screen while a host of other nationalities milled in and out of a food mall. Former England defender Stuart Pearce was among them, trying to eat lunch but getting bothered for selfies by every English fan he passed. The occasional breaks from watching or writing about football have offered a chance to explore. In Houston, I ate ribs and melt-in-the-mouth brisket at a shack aptly named Henderson & Kane, played pool with journalists and locals in a dive bar and visited the Museum of Fine Arts. It turns out the city is much more than just a concrete floodplain. Ribs, brisket and much more in Houston, Texas (Lawrence Ostlere/The Independent)A dive bar near downtown Houston (Lawrence Ostlere/The Independent)But interest in football seemed confined mainly to stadiums and fan festivals. This marriage between America and the World Cup is odd, one that flourishes and takes hold in some parts of the country and barely exists in others. Soccer is growing in pockets but it remains a peripheral, old-world pastime compared to the grip of NFL and NBA.Yet in other ways perhaps the US is the perfect host, a place full of the kind of cultural intrigue that was so clearly missing in Qatar. No other country on earth has such a broad collection of immigrants and ancestors of immigrants, so that every city is like a little global community with a diaspora of fans already waiting for their team to arrive. Dutch Americans helped turn Houston Stadium orange this weekend. The World Cup is an international festival of sport, of hope, of pain, of summer escapism, and it has a unique way of reaching people. I met the world’s most enthusiastic taxi driver in downtown Dallas who knew nothing much about football. But she loved the different collections of people she’d ferried around that day and was giddy at the idea of seeing drunk England fans desecrating Dallas bars later that night. She talked about flying to Boston to drink with Scots and I think she was only half-joking. “I swear,” she laughed, “if anything can bring about world peace, it’s the World Cup.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 1 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEagles News: Zack Baun says Vic Fangio is taking Philadelphia’s defense “to the next level”PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - DECEMBER 14: Zack Baun #53 of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts after catching an interception against the Las Vegas Raiders during the third quarter at Lincoln Financial Field on December 14, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images) | Getty Images Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …Zack Baun inspired to lead Vic Fangio’s ‘next-level’ defense in 2026 – PhiladelphiaEagles.comAside from the changes to personnel and development of the younger players in the locker room, a large reason for Baun’s excitement lies in Fangio and his system. “I feel he’s taking things to the next level this year,” Baun said about his defensive coordinator. “Even with his own scheme, he continues to develop and tweak and change.” Baun, having grown into his role under Fangio, now leads one of the youngest defensive rosters in the league. “He’s a hard-nosed, old school football coach, Baun said. “If you’re willing to learn and listen to what he has to say, it could be really good for you and I think it’s been really good for this defense.”Jason Kelce is raising money for the Eagles Autism Foundation once again – BGNFor the sixth year in a row, Jason Kelce is raising money for the Eagles Autism Foundation through his annual fundraiser at the Jersey Shore.2026 NFL offseason: Biggest surprise players on each team – ESPNCB Riq Woolen. The Eagles signed Woolen to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million this offseason to solidify the corner spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell. He has opened some eyes with his unique blend of size (6-foot-4, 210 pounds), speed and coverage skills. The highlight was an interception of a Jalen Hurts throw during minicamp when he anticipated a throw to tight end Dallas Goedert, undercut the route and sped the other way with the pick.Biggest Eagles questions by position in 2026: Offense – NBCSPQuarterback: Will Jalen Hurts mesh with Sean Mannion’s offense? One of the biggest stories of the Eagles’ offseason was the hiring of Sean Mannion to take over as offensive coordinator. This is a big-swing hire after the 2025 version of the Eagles’ offense finished 22nd in the NFL. They were far too talented to be in that spot. So they moved on from Kevin Patullo and went through an exhaustive search to find their next OC before landing on Mannion. Mannion, 34, is expected to run a version of the Shanahan offense. That will be a big departure from the offense we’ve seen under Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts over the last five seasons. While this new offense will be some sort of “blend” between old and new, the Eagles are expected to run many of the staples of a Shanahan scheme. And it’s fair to wonder how that offense will blend with the Eagles’ franchise quarterback. The good news is that, so far, it seems like Mannion and Hurts have already forged a strong relationship. Hurts is the kind of player who wants to know the why behind everything and Mannion has had all the answers. What are the staples we are expecting to see in this offense? More under-center usage, play action, pre-snap motions and a real emphasis on tying the run and pass. Nick Sirianni has said he thinks Hurts has shown an ability to do all of those things. The Other Guy: Eagles Have Found Something Special In RG Tyler Steen – SIWhether by design or overreaction, Philadelphia is moving off its prior offensive scheme under new coordinator Sean Mannion. For the offensive line, that means more of a stretch, wide-zone blocking approach versus one that defaulted to more of an inside-zone, power-based philosophy. The “other guy” on the Eagles’ dominant offensive front, which also includes star left tackle Jordan Mailata, is third-year pro Tyler Steen, who stands out as a prime breakout candidate at right guard under Mannion, new offensive line coach Chris Kuper, and run game coordinator Ryan Mahaffey. The 6-6, 321-pound former Alabama standout via Vanderbilt, selected in the third round (No. 65 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, stepped in as a starter last season and more than held his own, starting all 18 games (including the playoff loss to San Francisco) after limited action in his first two seasons (just three combined starts). What we learned from every NFL team during offseason workouts – The AthleticAn Eagles offensive line that brings back every starter looks healthy and has bought into the shift toward more wide zone blocking concepts under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Five-time All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was thrilled about having guard help on certain blocks for the first time in his career. He even grinned, gave the “OK” sign and said, “Me likey!” Center Cam Jurgens (back) and left guard Landon Dickerson (knee) did not miss any time in OTAs and minicamp after traveling to Colombia for offseason stem cell treatment. The health and confidence of what’s arguably been the team’s strongest and most tenured unit during its golden era is as good an early sign as it gets the Eagles are headed toward a much-needed offensive resurgence.Devan Kaney leaving Fox 29 and Philly for new gig, won’t be back for Eagles games – InquirerKaney was laid off at 94.1 WIP in March as part of the latest round of national cutbacks by parent company, Audacy. In addition to being an on-air host, Kaney served as the station’s sideline reporter during the Eagles’ 2025 Super Bowl run and all of last season, replacing the fired Howard Eskin. It’s a role she won’t be returning to. “As much as I would have loved to return as the sideline reporter, they never reached out,” Kaney said, “and I’ll be covering a different NFL franchise moving forward.” Kaney had been with Fox 29 since 2023, serving as a parttime sports anchor and reporter. She also appeared on Good Day Philadelphia and featured prominently on the station’s Eagles coverage.10 reasons the Cowboys will be a dumpster fire this season – PhillyVoiceIn other words, there’s a reasonable enough chance that the Cowboys will have traded one of the best defensive players in the NFL in Micah Parsons for a couple of aging DTs and a net loss in draft pick value.Dak Prescott to teammate: ‘I’ll get you to the playoffs, you need to help us win it’ – Blogging The BoysThere are a lot of things flying under the radar right now when it comes to the layers this defense can develop under first-year DC Christian Parker, and one of them is absolutely the Cowboys going into their first full season with Quinnen Williams at defensive tackle. Parker’s expertise in the secondary paired with his first draft pick Caleb Downs being the best secondary player in the class has created a heavier focus on the backend of the Cowboys defense compared to the trenches. This is especially true when considering all of the other new names in the secondary besides Downs like Cobie Durant, Jalen Thompson, P.J. Locke, and Devin Moore. Can Commanders start ’26 season with a Week 1 win vs Eagles in Philly? – Hogs HavenThe Commanders and Eagles share one of the oldest and most bitter rivalries in the NFL — one which the Commanders hold the lead in overall W-L record at 91-87-5. While Philadelphia has largely controlled the NFC East over the last few years, Washington has consistently played them incredibly tough. In fact, even during down years, the Commanders have managed to pull off surprising upsets against the Eagles, including a tight 24-17 victory in their most recent matchup. A win in this 2026 Week 1 game would see the series stand at 3-3 in the Dan Quinn era, while a Washington loss would tilt the table to 2-4 in favor of the Eagles since the start of the ’24 season when Quinn took over as head coach. The main storyline surrounding this game is the massive amount of schematic change on both sidelines. Opening the season against a fierce divisional opponent while breaking in two new offensive coordinators and one defensive coordinator means that the team that makes fewer mental mistakes will have a massive advantage. Additionally, playing at Lincoln Financial Field is always a hostile environment for road teams, giving the Eagles a distinct home-field emotional edge. Philly is favored in early betting lines, so the Commanders will face a tough road test against a good team and a tough crowd as Washington looks to reverse fortune in 2026.Survey results: Will the NY Giants be next to win a championship? – Big Blue ViewWe really shouldn’t be all that surprised that Giants fans think that the Giants will be the next to win a Super Bowl. Likewise, we shouldn’t be all that surprised only 1 percent of fans think the New York Jets will be next to win a Super Bowl. I didn’t specify a timeline, and the Jets clearly have a plan to return to competency, but a lot can happen between now and three years from now. The surprise, at least for me, was that the Giants and Buffalo Bills aren’t closer. Can you guess this NFL linebacker in today’s in-5 trivia game? – SB NationHello football fans! In addition to the Rams, 11 other teams will have two joint practices, 13 teams will have one joint practice and four teams won't have any.Sean McVay puts a huge emphasis on joint practices because he keeps his starters out of preseason action, so these practices allow them to get in quality work against other teams in a controlled setting where injuries are less likely to happen than in a preseason game. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Rams set dates for joint practices with Cowboys, Saints0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 1 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMShams: Boston Celtics could deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo without third teamPer recent reporting from ESPN senior contributor Shams Charania, things could be heating up in a Boston Celtics pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Speaking in a recent interview, Charania notes that the Celtics and Miami Heat are currently the teams to watch in any such trade for the Greek Freak, and that with "Boston, it's Jaylen Brown-led package."What is not clear from Charania's words, however, is what Boston is actually offering in any trade for Giannis to compete with an offer from the Heat focused on picks and young players. Charania also suggests that any trade will be focused on a "one-to-one deal.""It's going to consist of Milwaukee and likely one of these two teams (...)," said the ESPN reporter. "Giannis, my understanding right now, he is ready to be traded, either (to) Boston, either Miami, and we'll see what happens over the next 24 hours."As always, take all reporting at this time of the league calendar with a grain of salt given the degree of negotiating through the media that tends to happen in these situations.Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on:Blue Wire: https://tiny.ee/CdKpiTunes: https://tiny.ee/RK47YouTube: https://tiny.ee/cOW3This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Shams: Celtics could deal for Giannis without third team0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 1 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJay Shah says motherhood should not end cricket careers as ICC introduces new guidelinesNEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced new Return to Play Post-Pregnancy Guidelines to help female cricketers safely resume their careers after childbirth. The move comes as more players are choosing to balance professional cricket with motherhood, with the ICC aiming to strengthen support systems and player welfare.ICC chairman Jay Shah stressed the importance of ensuring women do not have to choose between family and sport."The continued growth of women's cricket must be built on opportunity, inclusion and care for our players at every stage of their lives and careers. No player should have to choose between motherhood and representing her country at the highest level," he said in a statement. "The ICC's Return to Play Post-Pregnancy Guidelines are an important step in creating a more supportive and informed environment across the game."The guidelines provide member boards with a framework to create policies suited to local conditions. At the heart of the plan is the "6 Rs" model, Ready, Review, Restore, Recondition, Return and Refine, which covers recovery after childbirth, medical checks, training, match preparation and continued monitoring after returning to competition. The recommendations also include flexible training schedules, childcare support, feeding spaces at venues and travel assistance where possible. The project was led by Australia team doctor Dr. Philippa Inge, who said the framework is meant to reassure players that motherhood does not have to end their cricket careers.West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher, who returned to international cricket after becoming a mother, praised the initiative and called it one of the biggest steps taken for women's cricket. She said physical recovery was challenging, but being away from her child was emotionally harder, adding that every player's journey back to the sport is different.Jay Shah added, "These Guidelines reflect our commitment to building a game where women can thrive, both on and off the field."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 1 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
