APNEWS.COMThe Washington Wizards are on the clock with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draftBYU forward AJ Dybantsa celebrates his three-pointer in the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against Baylor, Feb. 10, 2026, in Waco, Texas. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez, File)2026-06-23T14:57:13Z NEW YORK (AP) — The Washington Wizards are on the clock as the next team to make news in a busy June around the NBA.The Wizards have the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft on Tuesday night, with AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer among the options after strong freshman seasons in college. The buzz is just winding down in New York after the Knicks won their first championship since 1973 by beating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. The team’s championship parade was held last week, a few miles from where the draft takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the home of the Nets. And on the eve of the draft, Milwaukee and Miami agreed to a blockbuster deal that will send two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat, perhaps instantly creating another challenger for the Knicks. The Wizards hope they can pick a player that will help them become one. Washington’s NBA title drought is almost as long as the Knicks’ was, having last won in 1978 when the team was still known as the Bullets. The Wizards could go for Dybantsa, a forward who led the nation in scoring at BYU; or Peterson, a guard with tons of talent but some question marks after missing 11 games at Kansas with injuries and illness; or Boozer, a forward who was college basketball’s player of the year at Duke. Dybantsa hopes he’s the choice, already picturing how he will feel after the sacrifices he said his family made to get him this far.“Who knows, I might cry,” Dybantsa said. ___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/nba BRIAN MAHONEY Mahoney is an editor on the AP Sports desk. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJude Bellingham questions odd World Cup call after ‘second game fever’ for England against GhanaJude Bellingham questioned why he was named player of the match in England’s drab goalless draw against Ghana at the World Cup 2026. A standout performer and goalscorer in England’s opening win against Croatia, Bellingham struggled to impact the game in Boston as Ghana stayed solid in their deep defensive shape. Bellingham was substituted for No 10 rival Morgan Rogers with 20 minutes to go and the Real Madrid midfielder, having been named as a surprise recipient of the player of the match award, admitted it was another case of “second game fever” for the Three Lions, who have now drawn their second group game in their last four major tournaments.“I didn’t deserve it… it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well,” Bellingham said of the award, which is decided by an online fan vote. “I had a couple of moments but it was hard to get into the game. I’m grateful for whoever voted, but it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well. “Fair play to them. Like always, second game fever with England – win the first one and do well, draw the second. But it’s OK. “They played for a draw as it would have seen them through. Fair play to them.”The result means England are level with Ghana on four points, heading into their respective final group-stage matches against Panama and Croatia on Saturday. Captain Harry Kane, meanwhile, spurned a glorious late chance but refused to be overly downbeat afterwards. “Obviously disappointed not to win the game,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “It's a game we knew we’d have loads of possession, we did and they defended well in a low compact block and made it difficult to play in the middle of the pitch, so the game was outside and one v one duels. I think both ends of the half in the first and second half we got some momentum there and chances.Jude Bellingham was named player of the match (PA)"It's a game we could've walked away 1-0, 2-0 and moved on. It was never going to be the prettiest game because of the way they played. Credit to them, they defended well, dangerous on the counter-attack. Overall, we defended that pretty well. They didn't have many chances. We take the point and move on."”These games are tough; I've played in these types of games, a lot of us have played in these types of games. Sometimes you need an early goal to open up the match, for them to come out but as the game goes longer at 0-0, they believe more and defend more with their heart. “We still had chances towards the end there. I'm backing myself to score more often than not. One of those but I've lived the striker life long enough to know they're not always going to go in. I back myself nine times out of 10, but it just didn't fall my way today."We wanted that second win today, but it weren't to be. But overall we're in a good position and we look forward to the next one."0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTalaysia Cooper, Jada Richard explain joining Ole Miss basketball from SEC rivalsOXFORD — Ole Miss women's basketball was able to reload its roster at the expense of other SEC teams.Jada Richard and Talaysia Cooper are the top players for coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin since the season ended from the transfer portal, ranked No. 3 nationally by USA TODAY Sports.Senior guard Talyasia Cooper starred at Tennessee over the past two seasons. She averaged 16.0 points and had a team-high 104 assists in 2025-26.Richard is a junior who started 35 games at LSU in two seasons. She averaged 9.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.Richard and Cooper's status as former SEC rivals has led to some fun moments in summer workouts. Ole Miss beat Tennessee 94-81 last season despite 30 points from Cooper. The Rebels lost 78-70 to Richard and LSU. Richard had eight points."It's a lot of fun because we trash talk a little bit about what should have happened last year," McPhee-McCuin said. "Now we're all on the same team."Richard and Cooper had the same reason for transferring to Ole Miss: Coach Yo."I love her spirit," Richard said. "There's something about Coach Yo. And then when we'd play Ole Miss, they have a sense of toughness, grit. It's nothing easy. That's kind of what I like about Ole Miss."Cooper said it took her some time to decide she was entering the portal. Once she put her name in, Coach Yo called soon after.Cooper said she was seeking a school where she could develop. She said Coach Yo emphasized winning and defense, and it felt like a good fit."Coach Yo is a great coach," Cooper said. "Like Jada said earlier, her grit. Just playing for someone that has the passion that I have. I've seen what she produces in athletes. She gets the best version out of them, and some coaches can't do that. It's something I wanted in my last year."The Rebels also lost significant production in the transfer portal. Guard Sira Thienou entered the transfer portal on April 20, hours before it closed.Thienou was on the SEC's All-Freshman team in 2025 and averaged 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds last season.Coach Yo shouted out Richard and Cooper as players who are poised to be leaders on and off the court."I'm definitely happy I'm on this side of the fence now," Richard said. "It's great, I'm happy to be here and happy to learn under Coach Yo. She's been a great teacher, a great mentor. It's been fun learning the game."Sam Hutchens covers Ole Miss for the Clarion Ledger. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTravelers Championship 2026: I love this Tommy Fleetwood revenge angleAfter an exhausting grind at Shinnecock Hills and the U.S. Open, players now shift into a completely different examination: a short, scoreable, volatile par-70 layout that entices aggressive birdie-makers and provides habitual late Sunday drama down the stretch at the Travelers Championship.RELATED: Travelers Championship picks 2026: Our experts give their best betsTPC River Highlands is one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour schedule, but short does not mean simple or easy. The host venue asks players to control wedges, consistently play from the fairways and take advantage of a closing stretch that can create swings in a hurry. The drivable 15th is a perfect example of the architectural nuance of this golf course that creates chaos on the leaderboards. The field is naturally loaded for the final signature event of the season, even with Rory McIlroy electing to skip the week. Still, 18 of the top 20 players in the world are set to tee it up, joined by a deep group of proven contenders at a tournament that has often delivered drama all the way to the final hole.RELATED: The best courses on the PGA Tour, rankedRead The Line's Joe Idone and John Haslbauer break down whether Sam Burns can rebound from the U.S. Open to win the Travelers Championship:Watch Read The Line's full betting breakdown of the Travelers Championship here. Here are my top 10 contenders to win the 2026 Travelers Championship. 10. Brian Harman Warren LittleBrian Harman may not jump off the odds board, but few players have built a more reliable and strong course history profile at TPC River Highlands. This is the kind of golf course that keeps him relevant, where can lean into positional strategy, precise short irons and rely on a hot putter. Harman has finished inside the top 10 in each of his past five appearances at the Travelers. The outright ceiling is always the question with Harman, but the course fit is undeniable. He’s been lingering around leader boards just enough to fly in under the radar to one of his favorite stops on tour. He’s more dangerous here than the betting market wants to admit. 9. Russell Henley The pendulum on distance vs. accuracy habitually favors more accurate players at TPC River Highlands, year in and year out, more so than any other golf course. In comes the player who leads the field in fairways hit in Russell Henley, who also finished in a tie for second place at this tournament in 2025.Henley’s win came a few weeks ago on another positional track that requires positional precision, further cementing his potential with this course fit. One bad hole derailed his chances at Shinnecock Hills, and he’ll face a drastically different challenge this week, one that better aligns with his skills.RELATED: 15 courses we’d love to see host a future match play event 8. Cameron Young David CannonCameron Young has shown this season that he is built for spike weeks, and TPC River Highlands has already shown it can unlock his incredible upside. His 59 here in 2024 showcases his ability to dismantle this course when the driver, wedges and putter all get scorching hot at once. The recent slippage in form trajectory was natural based on his hot start this season. The case for a strong rebound is built on scoring upside, and Young holds one of the highest birdie-making ceilings. If he starts fast out of the gates, Young possesses more than enough firepower to win this tournament. 7. Justin Thomas On paper, the demanding nature off the tee at TPC River Highlands would not be an ideal fit for Justin Thomas, but history tells us that he’s a natural fit. While it demands precision, I believe this course aligns with his creativity, shot-making and an aggressive mentality. Thomas has played this tournament three times since 2023 and never finished worse than T-9.His strokes gained profile has been steadier, but his short game has been exceptional, and that’s where you score on this golf course. I trust his upside to produce results given his current confidence on the greens and historic ball-striking dominance at the Travelers. More from Golf Digest Golf Digest Logo The best Pete Dye courses, ranked 6. Ludvig Aberg Erick W. RascoThe world-class combination of elite driving and approach play has to produce a win soon for Ludvig Aberg. It’s not all bomb and gauge for Aberg either. He has won on a short course at the RSM Classic and finished second at Pebble, demonstrating his ability to separate on courses with less yardage on the scorecard.2026 has been one of the most consistent for Aberg, but it feels incomplete without a signature victory. The stars can align at any time, on any course, and when they do, Aberg will prove to himself and fans that he remains one of the brightest young talents in the game. 5. Matt Fitzpatrick Where Aberg has fallen shy of wins at the finish line, Fitzpatrick has sprinted through the ropes. His skill profile suggests a proper fit at TPC River Highlands, winning earlier this season at Innisbrook, which shares several similarities. He’s a highly strategic player, a requirement on any Pete Dye design.Fitzpatrick also controls trajectory as well as any player on the PGA Tour, allowing his game to produce results in any conditions. His discipline and all-around efficiency has taken him to new levels this year, and the Travelers could be the final notch in the belt for the dream season. RELATED: 5 key questions that still need answers as the PGA Tour makeover continues 4. Xander Schauffele David CannonThe PGA Tour pillar of consistency is Xander Schauffele. He’s never going to beat himself, and his steady approach almost always throws his hat into the ring of contention. Schauffele has already won this tournament in 2022, and he doesn’t have the weaknesses that often expose other players here.Schauffele again played well in the U.S. Open last week, but it was never the taxing mental exam that others faced. He should feel refreshed and confident heading back to a place where he has great memories. He is easily one of the safest and most logical contenders to win in this field. 3. Sam Burns The trends continue, as Sam Burns is coming off yet another impressive charge on Sunday at Shinnecock, and all roads are leading toward another victory for the 6-time PGA Tour winner. The putting prowess is well documented as elite, but Burns has made significant improvements off the tee and with wedge proximity that has made him a regular on leaderboards this summer. The Ballstriking profile now gives him a more reliable winning profile, and few players on the planet can hoop in putts like Sam Burns. If he can recharge quickly and transition his confidence to Cromwell, Burns deserves to be a top pick to win the Travelers. RELATED: Travelers Championship DFS picks 2026: Why I'm fading Wyndham Clark 2. Scottie Scheffler Kate McShaneI’ll admit, it feels a bit disingenuous to rank the No. 1 player in the world anywhere but the top, but a combination of deteriorating distance control and a growing monkey on the back lands Scheffler in my No. 2 spot in the rankings.Clearly we all know the upside is there, and Scheffler is a past winner here in 2024 when he outdueled his friend Tom Kim at the finish line. The only thing deciding whether he wins or merely contends at this point is the putter, the most volatile element in the bag. If he has an average week on the greens, then doors will continue to open for other players who bring their A-game. 1. Tommy Fleetwood This is all about unfinished business. After suffering one of the most gut-wrenching losses that I can remember in 2025, Tommy Fleetwood returns to TPC River Highlands. This time he is going to leave with the trophy. He’s one of the best course fits in the field with his reliability off the tee and excellence with short irons. On paper, he’s perfect for this course. The question remains: Can he close the deal? His incoming form breeds confidence, and I firmly believe that this is the week that Tommy Fleetwood gets his signature win.RELATED: 15 things to know about the new changes to the PGA TourJoe Idone is a Read The Line contributor and host of the Preferred Lines podcast.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNCAA Division I adopts age-based, 5-year eligibility model that eliminates redshirts, waiversThe NCAA Division I Cabinet unanimously approved an age-based, five-year eligibility model on Tuesday that's set to replace an existing model that's allowed four seasons of competition over five years with no age restrictions.Granted the change isn't final until the D-I Cabinet's meeting concludes on Wednesday, but the rule change is poised to go into effect for all prospects initially enrolling full-time in college in fall 2027 or later. For incoming 2026 class members and current student-athletes with eligibility remaining, Division I schools will apply whichever eligibility model is most beneficial for each individual.Student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility during the 2025-26 academic year will have no additional eligibility, although it’s expected that some will seek fifth years anyway via lawsuit. The age-based model will start student-athletes’ eligibility clock when they first enroll in college full-time or at the beginning of the academic year following their 19th birthday, whichever takes place first. The existing eligibility model has drawn criticism in recent years due to the manipulation of the waiver system and the surge of athletes in their mid-20s creating roster logjams. Under the age-based eligibility model, waivers — including those previously granted for hardships — and redshirts will be eliminated. In the most simple terms: For those incoming 2026 class members and current athletes who did not exhaust eligibility this past year, schools will apply the model that benefits them the most. For those enrolling in fall of 2027, schools will apply the new age-based model. https://t.co/nzKwli7sQ7— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) June 23, 2026"While previous NCAA rules have served college sports well for a long time, we heard also loud and clear from NCAA members and student-athletes that eligibility rules should be easier to understand," NCAA president Charlie Baker said in an NCAA release. "This change to an age-based model eliminates aspects of the rules that have proven difficult to administer in the current litigious environment and clearly defines the exceptions available in limited circumstances, while preserving the long-intended alignment of eligibility with typical college enrollment and graduation patterns, because 98% of the 550,000 NCAA student-athletes will go pro in something other than sports."As for the exceptions Baker alluded to, those include pregnancy, active-duty military service and official religious missions. Student-athletes under that umbrella could delay or pause their eligibility under the age-based model. An exception, administered by the NCAA Eligibility Center, will be available during its duration as long as the qualifying student-athlete doesn’t participate in organized competition in that time.Current student-athletes who still have eligibility considering submitting season-of competition or eligibility clock extension waiver requests based on circumstances during or before this past academic year must do so no later than July 31, per the NCAA release.“After that date, waivers of the previous rules will no longer be available,” the release reads.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDonald Trump insists he is a ‘great athlete’ who could beat a UFC fighter and makes outrageous claim about womenSep 11, 2025; Arlington, VA, USA; President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump attend a memorial event at the Pentagon on the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2025, in Arlington, VA. Mandatory Credit: Jack Gruber-USA TODAY via Imagn ImagesThe White House hosted the UFC Freedom 250 event on its South Lawn earlier this month in celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday this summer. Podcaster Joe Rogan, who commentated the event, which consisted of seven separate fights, had high praise for it afterwards.“That was the wildest experience that I’ve ever had in my 20-whatever years of calling combat sports. There’s nothing even close,” he said on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. On Tuesday, United States President Donald Trump held a public address in Macungie, PA, and Bo Nickal, who fought and defeated Kyle Daukaus in the event, was in attendance. Shockingly, the President let the crowd know that he’d take himself in the octagon over Nickal.” We have a very special guy who you just saw on the highest-rated fight show ever in the history of television, the UFC Freedom 250,” Trump told the crowd.Trump on UFC Fighter Bo Nickal: I’m a similar size. I weigh more than he does actually. So therefore I have a tremendous physical advantage. His muscles are slightly harder and slightly younger but I think I can do it because I’m a great athlete. He knows I’m a very good golfer. pic.twitter.com/OiEvHhvmEn— Acyn (@Acyn) June 23, 2026“I’m a similar size. I weigh more than he does actually. So therefore I have a tremendous physical advantage. No women, which is nice. You guys got the big, strong muscles,” the President said. The reality, of course, is that there are plenty of world-famous female fighters in the UFC, such as Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes, and that Trump has almost no shot whatsoever of defeating any UFC fighter in the octagon, male or female. The post Donald Trump insists he is a ‘great athlete’ who could beat a UFC fighter and makes outrageous claim about women appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYankees’ Aaron Boone irked by Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s in-game lollipop: ‘That pisses me off’NEW YORK — Fruit flavored candy on the outside? Bubblegum on the inside? That’s a Blow Pop, and Aaron Boone was not happy that Jazz Chisholm Jr. ate one while playing second base during Monday’s 5-3 loss to the Tigers. With the Yankees down, 4-1, in the fifth inning, YES Network cameras showed Chisholm sucking on and fiddling with a green lollipop midgame. He appeared to be nearing the gummy center of his green apple-tasting treat, available to players in Comerica Park’s dugouts, as the viral moment drew mixed reactions on social media. On Wednesday, it became clear that critics of the confection were in agreement with Boone, who said that he wasn’t a fan of Chisholm’s delectable decision during his weekly appearance on the “Talkin’ Yanks” podcast.“That pisses me off,” the manager said with a slight smile, adding that he didn’t know about the lollipop until after Monday’s game, which saw Chisholm go 1 for 4 with two strikeouts despite the added sugar. “So he and I talked about that. That won’t be going on.”Monday wasn’t the first time that Chisholm, a magnet for attention, played with a lollipop in his mouth this season. In another known instance, he actually took an at-bat with one in the first inning of a game against the Red Sox in Boston on April 22.Boone said he was unaware of that lollipop as well on Tuesday.“I’m not on that,” Boone said, reiterating his displeasure. It’s interesting that Chisholm’s lollipops inspired public condemnation from Boone, who typically avoids such things when it comes to his players and has encouraged his most colorful pupil to be himself. But Chisholm has earned private chats with Boone by pushing limits in the past, and it can be argued that the lollipop optics weren’t good, especially with the Yankees on their way to their third straight loss. There’s also the matter of a choking hazard, though former Royals infielder U. L. Washington used to play with a toothpick in his mouth, which YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay noted on Monday. Now it sounds like Chisholm, who took a .226 average, 11 homers and a .716 OPS into Tuesday’s game against Detroit, will have to stick to chewing on baseball’s traditional staples. Those include sunflower seeds, gum and tobacco, though Blow Pops are a healthier alternative to the latter.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColorado Rockies vs. Boston Red Sox game discussion: Sonny Gray vs Sean SullivanJun 17, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Colorado Rockies pitcher Sean Sullivan (45) throws the ball against the Chicago Cubs during the first inning at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images | David Banks-Imagn Images The Colorado Rockies have won three of four games so far on their current home-stand, and all three of those games have come with late innings hijinks. After two ninth-inning nail-biters against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Rockies decided that more shenanigans were in store for their series opener against the visiting Boston Red Sox.Down by two runs in the top of the eighth, the Rockies strung together four straight singles and failed to score a run due to base-running mishaps. However, they came back to walk the Red Sox off with another four straight hits in the bottom of the ninth. Two singles, a bunt single, and a bases clearing triple by Jake McCarthy came against one of the best closers in Major League Baseball.Tonight the Rockies will look to cement a series win against the Red Sox… Hopefully without causing their fans a lot of undue stress in the late innings.Rookie lefty Sean Sullivan will be making the third start of his young Major League career, and ideally it will go a bit better than the first two. In his first start, a visibly ill and laboring Sullivan pitched just three–albeit solid–innings. In the second, he gave up eight earned runs in four innings of work with two walks and two strikeouts. Seven of those runs came in just one inning. If Sullivan can take the best parts of his two performances so far, the third time might just be the charm. On the bump for Boston is the three-time All-Star and 14-year right-handed veteran Sonny Gray, who is making his 14th start of his first season with the Red Sox. Through his first 13 starts and 69.1 innings, Gray has a 3.12 ERA with 55 strikeouts.Gray has surprisingly little history against the Rockies, having made just two starts with 11.2 total innings. In those starts he has allowed four earned runs on seven hits with seven walks and 14 strikeouts. He has not given up a home run. The 36-year-old has a very well-balanced arsenal of pitches consisting of a cutter, a low 90s four-seam fastball, a sweeper, a curveball, and a sinker.First Pitch: 6:40 p.m. MDTTV: Rockies.TVRadio: 850 AM/94.1 FM KOA Rockies Radio Network; KNRV 1150 AM (Spanish)Red Sox SB Nation Site:Over the MonsterLineups:Back for more 😤 pic.twitter.com/Kj2LOJVAui— Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) June 23, 2026Tonight's lineup in Denver. pic.twitter.com/nOrtoQMO4l— Red Sox (@RedSox) June 23, 2026Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system! Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you’re commenting. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRumor Mongering: Bradley Barcola Open to Liverpool MoveZaid Tahseen #4 of Iraq and Bradley Barcola #12 of France compete for the ball during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I match between France and Iraq at Philadelphia Stadium on June 22, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Darrian Traynor/Getty Images) | Getty Images This lukewarm rumor is brought to us by the Evening Standard, who report that the 23-year-old French forward has been quoted as being “thrilled” by a potential move to Liverpool — despite murky reports of a bid from Arsenal. The PSG forward is reportedly “excited” by the project underway at Liverpool, whose new boss does perhaps suggest energetic football when compared elsewhere in the Premier League. These new rumors come as L’Equipe have reported that PSG are open for a move for the player, as their own negotiations on an extension have apparently not been productive. While RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is the big name Liverpool appear to be sniffing around, a loose war between Liverpool and Arsenal is sure to raise some eyebrows as well. Today’s rumors neither confirm nor deny an Arsenal bid, but instead suggest the player might prefer a move to the north. As ever, nothing is concrete and nothing is direct.Given the deparure of Mohamed Salah, however, and Liverpool’s general underperformance in attack, the Reds could add a few attacking names this summer — and Barcola’s youth certainly makes him an attractive proposition.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL fans accused Brandon Marshall of abuse after seeing his IG postFormer NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall is coming under fire for the way he disciplines his children.Marshall's video of him making his son run in the middle of the night has now led Marshall to defend himself against allegations of child abuse. “This is my son, not my friend…,” Marshall, 42, wrote in the caption on Instagram. He continued, “If you don’t start running, we’re gonna go three miles. So you better start running because you don’t know when I’m gonna tell you to stop. You don’t wanna listen? We run. We work. 2 in the morning. Let’s go. Faster. I’m driving 3 miles per hour. You should be going at 8 or 9 miles per hour.”“Here we go, now we moving. Run,” Marshall added. “That’s how you’re gonna learn. Come on.”The fans in the comment section were divided on what Marshall is doing. Some agreed with the tactic and applauded him for taking these actions, while others wondered if this was a type of child abuse. No reason was given as to why the retired NFL star was working out his son at 2 a.m. Marshall played 13 years for six different teams and ended his career with over 12,300 yards receiving and 82 touchdowns. He was also a six-time Pro-Bowler. He was also the first player in NFL history to record 1,000 yards receiving with four different teams. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: NFL fans accused Brandon Marshall of abuse after seeing his IG post0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Bidding war’ expected for Celtics’ star after blockbuster Giannis tradeNow that the Milwaukee Bucks have finally traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat, one NBA insider expects a “bidding war” for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. The Celtics reportedly offered Brown and two first-round draft picks for Antetokounmpo, but the package was not enticing enough for the Bucks, who ended up dealing the two-time MVP to the Miami Heat for a package of players and picks.Brown was linked twice to a trade for the 10-time All-Star.“Boston is in a situation where they have put for the whole world out there Jaylen Brown, their [NBA] Finals MVP,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said Tuesday on “Get Up.”“They, of course, knew it was possible they were going to lose to Miami. They wanted to win, they made a very strong offer, but they were not willing to put their entire team in. They were not willing to put other pieces in because on the other side of this trade, they had to have a team.“And so now what I expect to happen is a bidding war from Jaylen Brown from other teams in the league. In the most recent days, teams have been preparing for this eventuality, that it wouldn’t be the Boston Celtics who won the Giannis Sweepstakes, and that there would be a Jaylen Brown market.“I think it will take some time to play out, but if there’s a draft pick involved, it could happen today. I don’t think that’s likely, but it could happen today.”Windhorst added: “My guess is, even if Giannis wasn’t available, I swear I think Jaylen Brown might be on the block this year. So I think Jaylen Brown is probably, not for sure, is probably going to be elsewhere when the season opens.”On the other hand, another ESPN analyst said Brown should feel “relieved” after the trade.“Hopefully, [Brown] is feeling relieved, in my opinion,” Jefferson said Tuesday on “SportsCenter.” “You have to understand that this is part of the business. If Giannis comes up, there’s going to be a lot of All-Star players who are sweating, he was not the only one.“And really it is a compliment if you are a player of Jaylen Brown’s stature and they’re talking about a two-time MVP. Could you be a little bit frustrated? But understand that your name was mentioned, not Jayson Tatum.”With Tatum injured for much of the season, Brown finished sixth in MVP voting this season after averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Brown then raised eyebrows by declaring that this was his “favorite season of my career.”“I got to see Hugo come in as a rookie and have impact,” he explained. “I got to see [Jordan] Walsh gain confidence in himself. I got to see Neemias [Queta] become a starting center in the NBA. I got to see Jayson Tatum mentally overcome his injury.” Now the Celtics will move forward with Brown (at least for now) while Antetokounmpo moves to South Beach.“[Brown] most likely in this present form [was] the most valuable player that [Boston] could offer for Giannis,” Jefferson said. “That was the most value. You had the highest value. They might not have been looking at Jayson Tatum.“They were looking at you as a First-Team All-NBA, Second-Team All-NBA caliber player, a Top 10 player in this league, two-way player, so they wanted you.MORE BY ADAM ZAGORIABecky Hammon doubles down on Jalen Brunson comment, tries to ‘piss off Knicks fans again’Jun. 23, 2026, 4:02 p.m.Ex-Yankees manager weighs in on Giants controversy: ‘It’s just a really bad look’ Jun. 23, 2026, 9:48 a.m.“They couldn’t get the deal done...But if you’re Jaylen Brown, that is a compliment...where you and Giannis are in the same space where they’re saying, ‘Hey, we want that player to build our franchise around.’...“You should still feel...relief if you wanted to be in Boston, if you wanted to continue building....”He added: “That is a compliment, it is not necessarily an insult and hopefully [Brown] takes this and uses it as motivation for the future.”Read the original article on NJ.com. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWill Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp be valuable fantasy option in 2026?Will Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp have a resurgent season in 2026 for fantasy football team owners?Kupp was the Seahawks second-most targeted receiver last season. He played primarily out of the slot and recorded 593 receiving yards and two REC touchdowns across 16 games played. Kupp had not recorded any less than 710 yards or five REC TDs in any of the previous three seasons following his historic year in 2021, despite playing in no more than 12 games each season. However, next season may spell a revival in his career.According to ESPN Fantasy Football in their projections for the 2026 season, Kupp is projected to take a step back in 2026 with 472 receiving yards and three REC TDS, and earn 101.46 fantasy points in PPR leagues. The most critical factor that will impact Kupp’s season in 2026 is the roles that teammates Rashid Shaheed and AJ Barner will have in the Seahawks’ passing attack. Shaheed is expected to have a bigger role next season, and Barner had a strong year in 2025, especially as a touchdown threat, which may relegate Kupp to being the fourth-most targeted receiver in the offense next season.Kupp received 70 targets last season to Barner’s 68. That pecking order is liable to shift in 2026. With a player that was as prolific as Kupp was in his prime, a resurgent season for him is not to be counted out, which may bring him closer to the 753 REC yards that he averaged from 2022-24 rather than a decline in play.Ultimately though, Kupp brings value to the Seahawks with crisp route-running and quality receptions in short and intermediate yardage. However, in fantasy leagues, he may be best suited for owners in deep leagues, or as a valuable bench option, with the potential to be a late-round steal as a flex option, as he is forecasted to rank No. 73 overall among all wide receivers in total fantasy points in PPR leagues next season. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Assessing Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp fantasy value for 026 NFL season0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL officially makes decision on Jets-Brendan Sorsby speculationFor several months, Brendan Sorsby remained one of football's most intriguing unknowns. The former Texas Tech Red Raiders and Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback found himself at the center of conversations involving the NFL supplemental draft and New York Jets discussionsHis eligibility status became the subject, as were theories about whether teams would be willing to invest a draft pick in his services despite the controversy surrounding his departure from college football. The Jets were occasionally mentioned among the teams that could have at least explored the possibility. As it turns out, none of those conversations matter anymore. The NFL decides for everyoneThe NFL has officially declined to hold a supplemental draft, effectively removing Sorsby from the league's immediate plans and ensuring he will not be eligible to join an NFL roster until at least the 2027 NFL Draft. Sorsby was reportedly the only player to petition for entry into this year's supplemental draft. That left the league with a decision to make.Ultimately, the NFL's Management Council determined that holding a supplemental draft was not warranted, citing concerns related to accountability and the circumstances surrounding Sorsby's situation. In a statement explaining the decision, the league pointed directly toward issues that it believed were not adequately addressed in Sorsby's petition. "Your Petition does not address these matters, nor does it demonstrate accountability for your conduct or indicate whether, or how, you would adhere to the League's rules and policies governing the integrity of competition."The league also encouraged Sorsby to focus on preparing for potential entry through the 2027 NFL Draft process. The full letter can be found below. Here is the letter from the NFL’s Management Council to Brendan Sorsby:Dear Mr. Sorsby: We are in receipt of your Petition for Special Eligibility, dated June 16, 2026 (“Petition”). As announced earlier today, the League has elected not to conduct a Supplemental Draft this… https://t.co/FMxW8Fje72— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 23, 2026What this means for the JetsWhether the Jets would have seriously pursued Sorsby remains open to debate. New York currently appears comfortable with its quarterback room, led by Geno Smith and supported by younger developmental options; however, quarterback-needy teams are always looking for future answers, making Sorsby's situation worth monitoring. Now, that discussion becomes unnecessary. The Jets don't have to decide whether he was worth a late-round selection. They don't have to investigate how his situation would impact the locker room. They don't have to determine whether his talent outweighs the risk. The NFL made those decisions irrelevant. The story, however, isn't over. ESPN's Pete Thamel reports Sorsby's legal team is planning on pursuing the decision through the NFLPA while arguing that the league's decision violates both the collective bargaining agreement and applicable law.Brendan Sorsby's attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, tells ESPN of the NFL's decision to not hold a supplemental draft: "It is a violation of the CBA and the law. We will pursue this immediately with the NFLPA."— Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) June 23, 2026Whether that challenge gains traction remains to be seen. For now, however, the NFL has spoken. That means Sorsby's path to professional football appears delayed for at least another year, while teams like the Jets can officially move their attention elsewhere. One of the offseason's more unusual quarterback storylines has finally received clarity, even if the final chapter has yet to be written. This article originally appeared on Jets Wire: NFL officially makes decision on Jets-Brendan Sorsby speculation0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 NBA Draft grades, first-round pick-by-pick analysisWe're handing out grades for every first-round pick of the 2026 NBA Draft:1. Washington WizardsAJ Dybantsa, 6-9, BYU freshman forwardGrade: A+The Wizards finally land their star. Dybantsa could become one of the NBA’s most unstoppable shot-creators. At 6-foot-9, he has a special blend of athletic tools the way he bends, shifts, and explodes with the ball in his hands. Dybantsa led the nation with 25.5 points per game while breaking Danny Ainge’s 48-year-old BYU freshman scoring record with a 43-point eruption. He gets to the rim at will, cooks in the midrange, draws fouls at a high rate, and displays point forward potential. After weeks of deliberating between Dybantsa and Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Dybantsa likely got the nod because he’s significantly taller and comes with less baggage. In Washington, the pressure will be alleviated off AJ early in his career, now that he's teammates with two veterans in an All-Star-caliber big man in Anthony Davis and point guard Trae Young. The Wizards could even be quite competitive early on in Dybantsa’s career, especially if their existing young players get even better: Alex Sarr already looks like an effective two-way big, while guards and wings like Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and Bilal Coulibaly have all shown flashes at one time or another. But none of them project to be a superstar like Dybantsa, whose upside will be determined by whether he can become a knockdown 3-point shooter, as well as a more impactful defender to take full advantage of his physical tools. But the native of Brockton, Mass., has a tremendously high floor with his scoring skill alone that gives the Wizards a face of the franchise to build around and the ceiling to be a future MVP.2. In a deep draft class, there's sure to be plenty of relevant rookies for fantasy basketball managers going into 2026-27. Yahoo analyst Dan Titus will be sharing his live grades for each pick in the top-14 during the first round, updated after each pick. No. 1 Pick: Washington Wizards — AJ Dybantsa, F, BYUDybantsa joins a Washington team where he can contribute immediately. At 6'9" with a 7'0.5" wingspan, Dybantsa’s size and athleticism will translate well at the next level. He averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game in his only collegiate season. His 3-ball needs work (33.1%), but otherwise, he’s one of the best offensive talents in his class. Teaming up with a playmaker like Trae Young will be good for him, and he’ll complete what’s becoming a formidable frontcourt with Kyshawn George, Alex Sarr and (potentially) Anthony Davis. I like Dybantsa’s ability to get to the rim and he should be a draftable fantasy asset from jump. Nice pick, Wiz.Grade: A0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAJ Dybantsa chosen No. 1 overall in the NBA draft by the Washington WizardsAJ Dybantsa arrives for the first round of the NBA basketball draft Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in New York. | Adam Hunger, Associated Press BROOKLYN — AJ, meet D.C.BYU forward AJ Dybantsa has been selected by the Washington Wizards with the No. 1 pick in Tuesday’s NBA Draft.Dybantsa had long been viewed as a potential top draft selection dating back to his vaunted high school career. Since then, and especially recently, he’s repeatedly expressed his desire to be the first name called at the draft. Now, such expectations have become reality. As a freshman with the Cougars this past season, the 6-foot-9 Dybantsa led the nation in scoring at 25.5 points per game, shooting 51% from the field while averaging 6.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists as well.He was named the Big 12’s Freshman of the Year and a consensus First Team All-American, joining Danny Ainge and Jimmer Fredette as the only BYU players to earn the latter such recognition.Additionally, Dybantsa is the first No. 1 NBA draft selection to come from BYU, surpassing former No. 2 picks Shawn Bradley (1993) and Mel Hutchins (1951) as the highest-drafted Cougar in program history.“When I committed to BYU, I knew I was signing up for something bigger than basketball,” Dybantsa wrote in a LinkedIn post in April. “A lot of people questioned the decision. For me, the choice was simple. I wanted to go to the place that would best develop me as a basketball player and as a person. BYU was the program that gave me the clearest path to both. “The moment I stepped on campus, I knew I made the right call. This school welcomed me in, raised the standard for me, and made me a better person every single day I was there.”Dybantsa is the 19th Cougars played drafted since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976 and the school’s ninth first rounder. With Egor Dëmin being taken at No. 8 overall last year by the Brooklyn Nets, BYU has now produced first round picks in consecutive seasons for the first time ever. BYU forward AJ Dybantsa (3) gestures to the crowd after the Cougars were eliminated by Texas 79-71 in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament held at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore., on Thursday, March 19, 2026. | Isaac Hale, Deseret News0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNBA Draft: BYU forward AJ Dybantsa selected No. 1 overall by WizardsThe Washington Wizards have selected BYU forward AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. The selection culminates months of speculation over who would go first overall in one of the most anticipated drafts in NBA history. Dybantsa, Kansas guard Darryn Peterson, Duke forward Cameron Boozer and North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson were widely projected as the top four prospects in the draft. But the decision for the Wizards was reported to have come down to Dybantsa or Peterson.Ultimately, they chose Dybantsa, an athletic, two-way forward with superstar upside. The Wizards are hoping Dybantsa can elevate a promising core that features Anthony Davis and Trae Young in addition to rising third-year center Alex Sarr and second-year guard Tre Johnson, Washington's lottery selections in the previous two drafts. What Wizards get in DybantsaAn athletic, 6-9 forward with a 7-foot wingspan, Dybantsa arrived at BYU last fall as an elite prospect and the No. 1 ranked recruit in his class. He did not disappoint in his single season with the Cougars. A dynamic, multi-level scorer, Dybantsa led the nation as a freshman with 25.5 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 33.1% from 3 on 4.2 attempts per game. AJ Dybantsa joins the NBA with All-NBA upside.IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect / REUTERSHe's not an elite 3-point shooter, but Dybantsa demonstrated at BYU that he's plenty capable from long-distance. He has room to develop his shot as a floor-stretching forward who can play multiple positions and create his own shot from the perimeter, off the dribble or in the post. Dybantsa's game isn't limited to scoring. He's a strong rebounder and a talented and willing playmaker who averaged 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Dybantsa wasn't an All-Defensive selection in the Big 12, but he was impactful on that end of the floor. He possesses the size, athleticism, mobility and motor to develop into a high-level NBA defender who can guard multiple positions. In short, there's little not to like about Dybantsa's NBA prospects. He projects to slot in as a multi-tooled offensive weapon from Day 1 and possesses the drive and upside to develop as a defender and a 3-point shooter. If he does, he projects as a multi-time All-NBA selection as a pro.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTuchel insists England remain on course at World Cup despite Ghana drawEngland coach Thomas Tuchel on the sideline during Tuesday's World Cup draw with Ghana (FRANCK FIFE)England coach Thomas Tuchel admitted his team had lacked a cutting edge in a frustrating 0-0 draw with Ghana on Tuesday but insisted there were plenty of positive signs going forward in their quest to win the World Cup."It's a long tournament and I think the boys tried everything. They played with the right energy," said Tuchel after the stalemate at the Gillette Stadium near Boston."We always try to entertain our fans. It was difficult today but I hope the fans don't lose belief. There is a long way to go. I just feel I was right that we were in a very difficiult group."England had 79 percent of the possession but could not break down a determined Ghanaian defence in the Group L contest. They also lacked the cutting edge which made the difference in their opening 4-2 win against Croatia in Dallas, having 19 attempts on goal but managing only three on target.Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly hit the bar late on after coming off the bench, and Harry Kane blazed the rebound over to sum up a frustrating day for England."It fell to him and 99 times out of 100 he takes that chance. If he converts his chance maybe we are talking now about the patience and discipline and performance," added Tuchel."But now it is 0-0 and maybe the headlines are a little different. We had enough set-pieces to decide the match but we were not clinical enough."The German said that it was "just natural" to rely on Kane, who was unable to add to his two goals against Croatia and move ahead of Gary Lineker as his country's all-time top scorer at World Cups.Tuchel also admitted that the match could serve as a "reality check", even if the outcome is hardly too problematic for England -- they have four points from two games and a win against Panama at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday will clinch progress to the last 32 as group winners.- 'VAR went for a coffee' -"This is a difficult, difficult team to play against. None of us thought there was an easy match ahead of us, but there were a lot of things that were much better than against Croatia."It is just not the same result or excitement but it takes two to tango," he added in a nod to Ghana's defensive approach.England remain unbeaten against African opponents at World Cups but the Black Stars were clearly delighted with the point which keeps them on course to make the knockout phase for the first time since they got to the quarter-finals in 2010."Football is not only about possession. It is also about having the right attitude," Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz said as his team built on their opening 1-0 victory against Panama."We celebrated because we got a draw against a team who are one of the favourites to win the World Cup."His team also have four points before heading to Philadelphia next to take on Croatia."You have to pay a high price to get points. Probably because we are in the United States where everything is expensive," he joked. However, the former Real Madrid and Portugal boss also felt his team should have had a penalty for a late challenge on Prince Adu by Ezri Konsa.Nothing was given by the Honduran referee and he was not summoned to check the VAR monitor."The VAR went for a coffee which is natural but it is a clear penalty and a red card," insisted Queiroz.as/gj0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGrizzlies select Duke forward Cameron Boozer with No. 3 overall pick in 2026 NBA DraftCameron Boozer had enormous shoes to fill in Durham as the successor to Cooper Flagg, the youngest No. 1 overall pick since LeBron James in 2003. And while Boozer isn't quite the generational player Flagg is, he seamlessly slid into the starring role for a Blue Devils program that's made a habit of contending for national titles despite rostering plenty of one-and-done standouts. As expected, Boozer proved to be that caliber of NBA prospect and officially graduated to the next level on Tuesday night when the Memphis Grizzlies selected the forward with the thirdoverall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor described the 6-foot-8 Cameron Boozer, the son of former NBA veteran Carlos Boozer, as "the most polished player in the class" in his June 22 mock draft:"He scores from the post with both footwork and power, hits 40% of his 3s on high volume and has enough handle to run the offense as a point forward. He shifts between those modes based on what the defense gives him, and that adaptability led to a 35-win season at Duke and being named Naismith Player of the Year.""… With the bloodline of two-time All-Star Carlos Boozer, the team that drafts him is betting that skill, adaptability and a track record of winning at every level all lead to superstardom."Now, he’ll join a Grizzlies team that struggled to a 25-57 record last season and finds itself at a crossroads after the implosion of the Ja Morant-Jaren Jackson Jr. era. The former has already been dealt to the Utah Jazz, while the former’s contract seems to be hurting Memphis more than help.Boozer gives the Grizzlies a new keystone and should arrive as one of the most polished rookies in a stacked draft class. BYU star AJ Dybantsa went first overall to the Washington Wizards, while the Utah Jazz took Darryn Peterson second.Cameron Boozer became the ACC Rookie of the Year, the ACC Player of the Year and the consensus National Player of the Year in his lone season with the Blue Devils. (Jacob Kupferman/Getty Images)Jacob Kupferman via Getty ImagesBoozer averaged 22.5 points, an ACC-leading 10.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He shot 55.6% from the field, 39.1% from 3 and 78.9% from the free-throw line.Along with his twin brother, Cayden Boozer, a playmaking guard who has returned to Duke for his sophomore season, Cameron Boozer drew national interest as a highly touted recruit. They turned heads at Florida's Christopher Columbus High School, also the alma mater of Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who went No. 1 overall in this year's NFL Draft.Despite growing up in Miami, the Boozer brothers chose Duke, where their father went to school, over Miami as well Florida and Kentucky.Throughout high school, Cameron Boozer was a consensus top-three recruit. He was named the 2023 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year at just 15 years old and won that award again two years later. Together, he and his brother took home four straight state titles at Columbus. To top off their illustrious high school career, they earned a national title at 2025 Chipotle Nationals.Unfortunately for the storied sibling duo, it came up short of that prestige at the college level this past season. Duke collapsed versus a national title-game bound UConn squad in the Elite Eight, with Cayden Boozer ultimately committing an ill-fated turnover that set the stage for the Huskies' stunning game-winner.Cameron Boozer declared for the draft the following month. He was widely projected to go in the top three — and for good reason. He's coming off one of the most prolific freshman seasons to date. Boozer became the ACC Rookie of the Year, the ACC Player of the Year and the consensus National Player of the Year in his lone season with the Blue Devils. He scored 20-plus points in 23 of his 38 games, eclipsing the 30-point mark four times. Boozer helped Duke win ACC regular season and tournament titles and enter the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed.Boozer's father exceeded expectations as a second-round pick who went No. 35 overall in 2002. He played a combined 15 seasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers (2002-04), Utah Jazz (2004-10), Chicago Bulls (2010-14) and Los Angeles Lakers (2014-15), averaging 16.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.Even more will be expected of his son Cameron, a potential needle-mover for the Grizzlies.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL denies Brendan Sorsby's application to supplemental draftThe Arizona Cardinals will not be adding quarterback Brendan Sorsby to their team in 2026. After applying to enter the supplemental draft, the league responded to Sorsby saying they were not accepting him and that there will not be a supplemental draft. That can put to bed any talk of any more quarterbacks, which means the Cardinals are stuck dealing with Jacoby Brissett's contract dispute. Here is what the league wrote in a letter to him:Dear Mr. Sorsby: We are in receipt of your Petition for Special Eligibility, dated June 16, 2026 (“Petition”). As announced earlier today, the League has elected not to conduct a Supplemental Draft this year. Under our Collective Bargaining Agreement, the League retains sole discretion to determine whether it is appropriate to conduct a Supplemental Draft in any given year. The League has not conducted such a draft for several years and, prior to your submission, the League had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry. Your Petition—filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions—does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans. The issues presented by your Petition are too significant, and too closely tied to the League’s core integrity interests, to permit meaningful review within the timeline presented. The sole reasons identified in your Petition for seeking entry into the Supplemental Draft are that you have been “declared ineligible” by the NCAA, have “exhausted all of [your] avenues to continue in the NCAA,” and “want to now play in the NFL.” The Petition provides no information regarding the basis for, or timing of, the NCAA’s decision. Public sources, however, indicate that in May 2026 the NCAA issued a determination declaring you permanently ineligible from participation in college athletics, based on a sustained pattern of improper gambling activity during your collegiate career at three different universities. The League does not have the complete record of the NCAA’s investigation, and you did not provide any such materials with your Petition. Available information nonetheless indicates that, over the course of your collegiate career, you knowingly engaged in repeated and significant violations of NCAA rules designed to preserve the integrity of athletic competition. Reported conduct includes placing wagers on your own team and teammates and, to avoid detection, establishing or funding accounts in the names of intermediaries who placed bets on your behalf. There are also reports that you may have violated state criminal law. Your Petition does not address these matters. Nor does it demonstrate accountability for your conduct or indicate whether, or how, you would adhere to the League’s rules and policies governing the integrity of competition. Instead, even after receiving notice of the NCAA’s decision rescinding your college eligibility in May, you sought to avoid the consequences of that determination through litigation rather than accepting responsibility for your actions, and you pursued entry into the NFL only after abandoning those efforts. As Commissioner Goodell has emphasized, participation in the NFL is a privilege that carries with it significant responsibilities, including accountability. By all accounts, you are a talented player with the potential for future success. We encourage you to focus on preparing for possible entry into the NFL through the 2027 NFL Annual Draft. Sincerely, Lawrence P. Ferazani, Jr.Why did the NFL say no to Sorsby?A lot of it was tied to his previously betting on sports while in college, which led the NCAA to ban him permanently from college sports. The league was not satisfied with Sorsby's application or the fact that he didn't address his addiction or how he intends on avoiding further problems, as NFL players are not allowed to gamble on football. The league essentially believed that Sorsby was trying to run from the consequences of his actions. He is able to participate in other professional leagues, but because he was not entered into the supplemental draft, he is not eligible to sign with any team until after the 2027 NFL draft, for which he will be eligible. Sorsby's attorney said they will use the courts to try and be able to play in the NFL. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPros, cons: Utah gets Kansas basketball’s Darryn Peterson in NBA draftLAWRENCE — Kansas basketball just saw freshman guard Darryn Peterson selected Tuesday during the 2026 NBA Draft.Peterson, coming into the event as one of the premier talents available, was selected by Utah with the No. 2 overall pick in the first round. While there was a lot of debate about if he'd go first or second, Washington ended up landing on AJ Dybantsa at No. 1 overall. Peterson is the first Jayhawks player to be picked in the NBA draft since both Johnny Furphy and Kevin McCullar Jr. were selected in the second round in 2024.Peterson earned All-Big 12 Conference second team honors this past season at KU, in addition to being named to the all-freshman team. Health issues led to him missing some time during the campaign, and appeared to play a significant role in why his place among the top prospects in this NBA draft class came into question. But now the speculation can come to an end, as Peterson can now embark on his rookie season at the professional level.RELATED: KU basketball’s Kevin McCullar Jr. wins NBA title with New York KnicksHere’s what Peterson brings to the team:Pros of Utah selecting Darryn Peterson in 2026 NBA DraftPeterson has long been viewed as one of the best players available in this draft class and that predates him ever playing a game in college at KU. He has size and athleticism, as well as play-making ability that can be an asset — especially offensively — for Utah. He can also help spread the floor as someone who shot 38.2% from behind the arc for the Jayhawks.Despite the health issues Peterson experienced, he also stepped up in clutch moments for Kansas this past season. He’s someone Utah and its fans can trust if the basketball is in his hands in the final seconds. With the Jayhawks, he reached the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament and the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament.Cons of Utah selecting Darryn Peterson in 2026 NBA DraftThe major concern that’s surrounded Peterson during his year with KU and during the pre-draft process has been his health. Would he be able to go through the pre-draft process at full strength? Would NBA teams that had the chance to pick him feel comfortable with what they were able to learn about what happened with the different issues that came up while he was at Kansas, and his ability to move forward as a featured piece of their organization?Peterson averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game across 24 appearances, but amid that he did miss 11 games. There were ways that the Jayhawks benefited from other players having to step up in his absence, like senior guard Melvin Council Jr. emerging. However, the team also didn’t get as much time as it could have to reach its full potential.Darryn Peterson’s college stats for Kansas basketballPeterson played in 24 games for the Jayhawks and averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He shot 43.8% from the field and 82.6% from the free-throw line, in addition to his 38.2% mark from behind the arc. He also averaged more than a steal and an assist per game.Jordan Guskey covers University of Kansas Athletics at The Topeka Capital-Journal. Just who did the Clippers draft? Here's a look back at the 6-foot-5 guard from Shawnee, Kansas, and his meteoric rise.Staying loyal to ShawneeWagler comes from a basketball family that all either played or coached at some point during their careers in Kansas. They would go on to defend that title in his senior season, where they finished 22-3.For his career, he finished with 1,105 points, 464 rebounds, 272 assists and 100 steals. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGhanaian player accused of rape gets back onto the field for World Cup draw against EnglandFOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, who missed his team’s first World Cup match because he was denied a Canadian visa while awaiting trial on rape charges in Britain, returned to the lineup on Tuesday to an apparent snub in the pregame handshake line and a cool reception from fans.Partey was booed by the heavily pro-England crowd at Gillette Stadium when he touched the ball in the match that ended in a 0-0 draw. Videos also circulated on social media in which England defender Djed Spence appeared to refuse to shake hands with Partey before the match. When England coach Thomas Tuchel was asked after the game about the encounter, the team's media officer, Andrew Walker, interrupted and said, “I’m sorry, but for legal reasons we’re not going to be discussing that today. So let’s move on.”In the videos, Spence shook hands with the player in front of Partey and the player after him, but appeared to put his hand in his pocket when the embattled midfielder passed.Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz denied that there was any snub.“Look, this did not happen," Queiroz said. "We refuse to be part of people that try to bring dust and politics inside the game. We fight to keep the four lines sacred. It’s difficult sometimes, but it happens.”Partey, who played five seasons for Arsenal in the Premier League and spent last season at Spanish club Villarreal, has been accused by four different women of sexual assault and rape.A lawyer for Partey said in March that the 33-year-old Ghanaian intends to plead not guilty to two new charges of rape in Britain after a woman alleged Partey twice raped her on the same day in December 2020. Partey had separately been awaiting trial on five counts of rape related to two other women and one count of sexual assault involving another woman, and the new allegations arose after the first set of charges were publicized. The charges led Canada to deny Partey a visa for Ghana’s opening match in Toronto on Wednesday, a 1-0 victory over Panama. Ghana’s final group match is also in the U.S., on Sunday against Croatia in Philadelphia.“When we saw him starting the game, we are all happy,” Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo said. “We are all with him to let him stay focused and help the team, because he’s our main man and we’ll always be with him.”Partey, who did not speak to reporters on Tuesday, said after the team’s training session on Monday: “Things happen outside football that you cannot control. So for me now, I feel OK and I’m ready to play.”And his team was glad to have him back.“He is a great person,” Sibo said. “He has experience playing in the top leagues, so every time training with him or training camps, we learn a lot from him.”___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/hub/fifa-world-cup0 Reacties 0 aandelen 13 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYankees manager Aaron Boone not happy about Jazz Chisholm playing with lollipop in his mouth: 'That pisses me off'New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has spent a surprising amount of time talking about a lollipop in the past 24 hours. That would be the lollipop of Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. who was seen on camera sucking on the sweet during Monday’s 5-3 loss against the Detroit Tigers.Jazz Chisholm Jr. is playing second base with a blow pop in his mouth pic.twitter.com/sJo7B2ZAzq— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) June 22, 2026Does that constitute a scandal? Probably not. However, Boone certainly didn’t seem happy about it while speaking on “Talkin’ Yanks” the next day. The manager revealed he spoke to Chisholm about the lollipop after the game and said it won’t happen again:“Oh yeah, that pisses me off. I didn't know about it until after the game. So he and I talked about that. That won't be going on.”He was then told this wasn’t the first time Chisholm had taken the field with a lollipop, as he previously took an at-bat with one against the Boston Red Sox. At that point, Boone held off on further comment:“That was the second time? There was another time?… That's… I'm not on that.”Then came Boone’s pregame media availability at the ballpark, when he downplayed the matter:"I just don't think he should have had a lollipop out on the field. Nothing more, less. Justt wasn't a good look to me. So that's that.“I was annoyed by it, I addressed it. Let’s move on from it. At the end of the day, it’s not that big a deal.”Lest you think Chisholm was bothered by the correction, he homered in Tuesday’s game against the Tigers. His comment as he entered the dugout: “Where’s my lollipop?” He then showed the YES Network camera a container of bubble gum.Jazz found his lollipops pic.twitter.com/FzBKMrKi17— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) June 24, 2026All of this comes a few days after Chisholm drew attention last week with his refusal to wear a cup.In terms of actual baseball, Chisholm entered Tuesday hitting .226/.312/.404 while holding down second base for the Yankees. That homer was his 12th of the season.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 12 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAnte Budimir's goal gives Croatia a 1-0 World Cup win over PanamaAnte Budimir’s second-half goal kept Croatia’s hopes of a third-straight World Cup semifinal appearance alive as the 2022 third-place finishers beat Panama 1-0 in Toronto on Tuesday. The 34-year-old became Croatia’s oldest World Cup goal scorer ever when he knocked home Josip Stanisic’s cross in the 54th minute after coming on at halftime as a substitute.Pašalić > Stanišić > Budimir on an absolute beauty from Croatia 🔥 pic.twitter.com/nH1dHYDO8y— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 24, 2026Knowing it would be eliminated from the World Cup with a loss after losing its opener to Ghana, Panama immediately pushed forward for a tying goal. However, one never came, and now Panama knows its final game at the World Cup will be on Saturday against England.Panama’s best chance at a tie came less than 15 minutes after Budimir’s goal. Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic made back-to-back saves on Amir Murrillo shots and then parried over another shot on the ensuing corner.Croatia was overrun in the second half of its 4-2 loss to England last week but was the controlling team in midfield for much of the game on Tuesday. Panama was content to immediately push forward on the counter as soon as it regained possession from Croatia until Budimir’s goal and produced some dangerous opportunities in the first half. However, few of those turned into actual chances.Panama was dangerous again immediately after Budimir’s goal as it committed players forward. But the second-half hydration break happened right after Livakovic’s flurry of saves, and Panama never replicated that momentum the rest of the game. After finishing second at the 2018 World Cup and third four years ago, Croatia now has a very clear path to second place in Group L with a win over Ghana. After tying with England earlier Tuesday, Ghana and England each have four points while Croatia has three. Assuming an England win over Panama, Croatia can finish second with a win and will have a great shot at a third-place spot in the Round of 32 with a draw.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 12 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNBA Draft: Hawks prioritize long-term playmaking with Kingston Flemings at No. 8Atlanta did something a little surprising Tuesday night in the first round of the NBA Draft. Many figured the Hawks would go with size and choose 7-foot-3 Aday Mara out of Michigan at No. 8 overall to get a jumbo center in the fold.Instead, they opted for 6-4 lead guard Kingston Flemings from Houston. It's not a bad pick, but with CJ McCollum re-signing for next season, it made sense that Atlanta would opt for size to shore up their frontline to complement Jalen Johnson and Jonathan Kuminga.Flemings, however, is the long-term solution at point guard for this young team, meaning the organization put a larger emphasis on additional playmaking. This suggests the Hawks wanted more on-ball help for Johnson so they don’t overtax their All-Star forward, prioritized lineup symmetry and will possibly look to add size later in the draft or in free agency.Regardless, Atlanta is a team to track next season.Flemings is a ridiculously intriguing young lead guard who can score at three levels, has strong court vision and reliable decision-making, even at such a young age. Will he have a huge impact on the Hawks in Year 1? Probably not, but that's not the play here. This is a long-term vision the Hawks are initiating and rightfully so.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 14 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLucas Giolito to IL, JP Sears to start for PadresPeoria, AZ - February 23: JP Sears #38 of the San Diego Padres pitches during a spring training game against the Milwaukee Brewers on February 23, 2026 in Peoria, AZ. (Photo by K.C. Alfred / The San Diego Union-Tribune via Getty Images) Manager Craig Stammen announced in his pre-game media session on Tuesday, the promotion of LHP JP Sears to make his season debut with the San Diego Padres after the team placed starter Lucas Giolito on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.Stammen reported that Giolito spoke up about the soreness in his elbow after his last appearance against the Texas Rangers. It is reportedly similar to the soreness he felt last season before missing the rest of the year on the injured list. The Padres will push Randy Vásquez back a day, and Sears will start tomorrow against the Atlanta Braves, with Vásquez going the first game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Giolito joins Germán Márquez, Matt Waldron, Nick Pivetta, and Jhony Brito as starters on the injured list. Both Márquez and Brito are completing their work to return from injuries, with Brito pitching two days ago and Márquez nearing the end of his rehab assignment. Waldron just began his rehab assignment with El Paso this past week.Giolito signed with the organization on April 22, making his season debut May 17 after an abbreviated ramp-up to the season. His velocity, diminished this season, sits 2-3 mph below his norm, and he has been hit frequently, pitching in 29.2 innings over seven games with a 5.16 ERA. The team has used an opener for him in his last two games.Sears, acquired at the trade deadline last season, has a history as an innings-eater in his MLB career. His previous ERA, before pitching for the Padres, sat between 3.50 and 4.50 from 2022 to 2024. He finished last year with a 5.04 ERA overall, 4.95 with the Athletics before the trade and 5.47 in his five starts with the Padres. For 2026, Sears has started for El Paso in Triple-A and leads the team with 62 strikeouts, but also has a 7.92 ERA in his 14 starts and 63.2 innings. The dry air and elevation in the Pacific Coast League are not conducive to the effectiveness of pitchers. He could be more successful at Petco Park, with the damp air and being at sea level. Sears features a seven-pitch mix with a four-seam fastball that sits in the low 90’s. His command and movement might look very different in MLB parks. With Giolito to the IL, both Márquez and Brito could get opportunities to push their way onto the roster. Sears and the two returning pitchers give the team some depth and options as they decide what their moves will be at the trade deadline. With a starting pitching staff ranked 28th in MLB, the Padres need to improve the starting rotation if they are to remain in contention for the playoffs.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 14 Views 0 voorbeeld
