Fenway Sports Group adds women's WTGL team to golf roster
WTGL has landed its fifth franchise owner, and the name is a familiar one.Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the global sports and entertainment powerhouse behind the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC and Boston Common Golf in TGL, has acquired Boston Common Golf's WTGL team, further strengthening its ties to TMRW Sports and the rapidly expanding team-golf landscape.TeamMarketOwner / Ownership GroupAtlanta WTGLAtlantaArthur M. The company was among the original ownership groups in TGL and an early investor in TMRW Sports, the parent company of both TGL and WTGL. Boston Common Golf's TGL roster is led by Rory McIlroy, and also features Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama.FSG's connection to women's golf dates back to 2023, when Fenway Sports Management entered a partnership with the LPGA aimed at expanding the tour's sponsorship and marketing opportunities. The WTGL investment marks the next step in that relationship.FSG was also instrumental in bringing a much-needed influx of cash to the PGA Tour when it was facing a challenge from LIV Golf."At FSG, we've always believed in investing early in ideas with the potential to grow and evolve the sports landscape," said Linda Henry, FSG partner and CEO of Boston Globe Media. "Our investment in TMRW Sports and partnership with the LPGA have only reinforced our confidence in the future of women's golf. WTGL is a natural next step, and we're proud to bring Boston Common Golf to the league and another world-class team to New England fans."WTGL is set to debut this fall at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, using a fast-paced team match-play format built around many of the LPGA Tour's biggest stars. Fourteen players have already been announced for the inaugural season, including six of the top 13 players in the world rankings. Collectively, the group owns 95 LPGA Tour victories, with additional roster announcements expected before the season begins. The addition of FSG gives WTGL another experienced ownership group as it continues assembling its inaugural lineup of teams."Fenway Sports Group has been a TMRW Sports partner from the beginning and understands what it takes to build an enduring team brand in one of the world's most passionate sports markets," said Mike McCarley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports. "Boston Common Golf brings an established identity, a passionate fan base and an ownership group with a record of growing iconic sports properties. Adding FSG and Boston Common Golf strengthens WTGL as we build a premier platform for women's team golf in partnership with the LPGA."Charley Hull, Lydia Ko, Jeeno Thitikul, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie West are among the 14 LPGA stars committed to participate in WTGL's inaugural season. But the biggest star in women's golf, world No. 1 Nelly Korda, is not slated to compete in WTGL. The three-time major champion criticized the fact that a separate indoor league was created for the women as opposed to having them compete alongside the men, calling it a "huge and unbelievable miss."This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Fenway Sports Group adds women's WTGL team to golf roster

The Biggest List of Fantasy Football Team Names
Choosing a fantasy football team name can be almost as difficult as building a winning NFL roster. Some managers want a clever player pun, while others prefer a movie reference, an old-school joke or a name designed to annoy the rest of the league. This collection brings together more than 600 names across quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, rookies, NFL teams and pop culture. It also includes old references to retired players and forgotten fantasy favorites, because a joke does not always need a current roster spot. Whether you want something funny, nostalgic, intimidating or ridiculous, this list delivers.Fantasy football rankings: Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers | Tight EndsQuarterback Team NamesAllen the FamilyJoshin AroundAllentownCountry Roads, Take MahomesMahomes AloneSherlock MahomesMahomes Is Where the Heart IsHurts So GoodLove HurtsLamar the MerrierGoff My LawnTurn Goff the LightsIn Goff We TrustBake It Till You Make ItThe Great Bake-OffCaleb Me MaybeBo Knows FantasyNix PicksStroud NineStroudy With a Chance of TouchdownsTua Legit to QuitMaye the Force Be With YouMaye DayPurdy GoodBrock and RollDart Side of the MoonDart AttackFields of DreamsThe Young and the RestlessBorn to be WildRetired and Former QuarterbacksFormer Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady is retired, but that shouldn’t slow you down if you’re considering a fantasy football team name based on him.Brady GagaThe Brady BunchBrady and the TrampHere’s My Number, So Call Me BradyLord of the RingsBrady Bunch ForeverBreesus ChristBreesus, King of the DrewsEasy BreesyPimpin’ Ain’t BreesyBrees Through the TreesFavre Dollar FootlongFavre From OverFavre and AwaySaving Matt RyanMatty Ice Ice BabyRyan’s HopeBig Ben There, Done ThatRoethlisberger HelperSherlock RoethlisbergerRivers Runs Through ItCry Me a RiversRivers of DreamsCam You Dig It?Lights, Cam, ActionSuper CamHey Darnold!Dude, Where’s My Carr?Carr TroubleCarr-dee BWentz Upon a TimeWentz It Rains, It PoursOnce You Go Dak, You Never Go BackRomo SapiensRomosexualRomoCopLuck Be a LadyGet LuckedLuck DynastyKaepernick SwagRG3POJohnny FootballTebow KnowsFlacco SeagullsFitzMagicFitz and the TantrumsMariota Had a Little LambWinston With the StarsFamous JameisGaroppolo Shot FirstJimmy G-String DivasNuthin’ but a Jimmy G ThangDeshaun of the DeadWatson Your WalletStafford InfectionStafford MeetingTannehillbilliesTrubisky BusinessMitch PleaseDalton AbbeyThe Red RifleRunning Back Team NamesBijan MustardTo Infinity and BijanBed, Bath and BijanBijan FriseBreece’s PiecesHall or NothingLights, Kamara, ActionKamara ShyRun CMCChristian MingleAchane ReactionAchane of FoolsBaby Back GibbsGibbs Me a BreakJahmyr I Go AgainTaylor MadeTaylor SwiftlyKing HenryHenry Given SundaySaquon and OnlyOh Saquon You SeeJeanty in a BottleSmooth OperatorHampton InnLove Is All You NeedLove ActuallySwift JusticeD’Andre the GiantCookin’ With GasCook CountyRetired and Former Running BacksBeast ModeSkittles Taste the RainbowMarshawn of the DeadLynch MobAll DayPurple Peterson EaterAdrian BeatersonGurley ThingsGone GurleyTodd Gurley and the Three BearsLe’Veon on a PrayerBell CowSaved by the BellZeke SquadZeke and DestroyHide and ZekeGurley, You Had Me at HelloFournetteflix and ChillTeenage Mutant Ninja Bortles and FournetteArian NationFoster the PeopleFrank the TankGore VidalGore and PeaceShady BusinessShady’s BackMcCoy Meets WorldDeMarco PoloJamaal About That BassJamaaliday InnMurray Up and WaitMake It WayneReggie Bush LeagueBush PushRay Rice BabyRice Rice BabyKnowshon MercyKnowshon, Know ProblemDoug E. Russian Athletics files new claim against sanctions
The Court of Arbitration for Sport is an independent organisation that resolves sports disputes worldwide [Getty Images]The Russian Athletics Federation has filed a new claim with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to challenge sanctions imposed by World Athletics.Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been banned from international competition under the world governing body since the country's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.Russian Athletics says the ongoing sanctions "infringe on the organisation's rights", adding they "prevent it from fully representing the interests of Russian athletes on an international level."The International Olympic Committee provisionally lifted Russia's suspension in July, potentially allowing the country to compete at the 2028 Olympics Games in Los Angeles.Cas, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, serves as sport's highest arbitration body and hears disputes involving athletes, federations and governing organisations."The sanctions against Russian Athletics are unprecedented. No other sports federation faces such severe restrictions," Boris Yaryshevskiy, chief executive director of Russian Athletics, said in a statement."They not only hinder the federation's normal operation but also hold back the development of athletics in Russia, particularly among young athletes, preventing us from properly representing our sport in the international arena."That is why we will consistently defend our rights, pursue the lifting of the sanctions through the courts, and continue our work in this direction. We are already preparing our next steps to restore justice."Russian Athletics lodged a separate appeal on 9 July challenging a decision by the World Athletics Council - the main rule-making and executive body of World Athletics - to extend the ban on Russian athletes from international events.Other sporting federations, including World Gymnastics, World Aquatics and World Boxing, have this year eased restrictions on Russian athletes competing. Some Russian and Belarusian athletes competed as neutrals at both the 2024 Paris Games and this year's Winter Olympics in Milan.

Romero, Spence, Porro to report for Spurs training this week
Pedro Porro and Djed Spence of Tottenham Hotspur celebrate after the 2024/2025 Europa League Final football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at San Mames stadium. Bilbao (Spain), May 21st, 2025. (Photo by Cesare Purini/Mondadori Portfolio via Getty Images) One of the long tail effects of a World Cup year is that the players that go deep into the tournament are always the last to report back to their club teams for preseason training. I don’t begrudge them this at all — players put a lot of miles on their tires during a summer international tournament and basically don’t get much of a break at all. They’re mandated at least three weeks of down time after they’re eliminated from (or win) the competition, but in the case of clubs that make the semifinals, it generally means that those players don’t return for preseason until a couple of weeks before the new club season starts. That’s the case with three of Tottenham Hotspur’s players — Cup winner Pedro Porro, runner up Cuti Romero, and semifinalist Djed Spence. They are the last three Spurs players to return from summer vacation, and according to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, all three are set to return to training this week. Spurs open the new Premier League season on August 22 away at Brentford. Of course, nearly every Spurs fan knows that at least two of those three players may not be at the club by the end of the summer transfer window. While Pedro Porro has confirmed his long term Spurs future by signing a new contract at the club this summer, the club is in active negotiations with Atletico Madrid and (maybe) Inter Milan over the sale of Cuti Romero, and there have been numerous rumors that the future of Djed Spence may lie away from Tottenham.Even so, returning this week means that one or all of those three players may participate in the upcoming home friendly this weekend against Hoffenheim at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That friendly marks the first time that local English Spurs fans will be able to watch the team play in person this preseason, and as we inch closer to the start of the season it’s also likely we’ll see more and more first team players participating and starting. Tottenham are emphatically not done in the transfer window, with head coach Roberto De Zerbi stating for the record that he hopes to bring in 2-3 more attacking players in what’s left of the summer. Spurs are still, ostensibly, working to sign Manchester City winger Savinho and have been linked with Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo and any other number of available (and perhaps unavailable) players. That said, after a flurry of expensive signings early in the window, Tottenham haven’t signed anyone new for the first team since July 6, which is leading to a fair amount of angst amongst supporters.Transfers are weird, twisty things and once again Spurs’ transfer drama could go right down to the wire with the club assessing all its options. But at least we can look forward to three important players returning, at least temporarily, to training.

WHO says Congo’s Ebola outbreak started months before it was declared
Wiza Bondele, centre, a health worker on the prevention and control team, seen at work in Ituri province, eastern Congo, Wednesday, Aug 5, 2026. (AP Photo/Dieudonne Dirole)2026-08-10T13:23:02Z BUNIA, Congo (AP) — The fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record started in February, months before it was officially declared in mid-May, the World Health Organization said Monday, as responders in eastern Congo struggle to catch up.The WHO regional director for Africa, Mohamed Yakub Janabi, told a news conference that sequencing indicated the outbreak’s start. He said some cases early in the outbreak were wrongly attributed to malaria and typhoid.“So we are chasing the virus, the virus is ahead of us,” Janabi said.Confirmed cases of Ebola in this outbreak have reached 4,200, including over 1,900 deaths, according to the latest government figures. The outbreak declared on May 15 is unlike most previous ones for Ebola because the Bundibugyo virus responsible for it has no approved vaccines or treatments. Early testing was conducted for the more common type of Ebola, contributing to delays. This Ebola outbreak has killed more people at a quicker rate than any other, including the 2014-2016 outbreak that is considered the worst on record with over 11,000 deaths out of at least 28,000 cases. That outbreak took about eight months to reach 1,000 deaths.Ebola is rare but highly contagious and can be contracted via bodily fluids such as vomit, blood or semen and with contaminated surfaces and materials such as bedding and clothing. The disease it causes is severe and often fatal. Last week, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu said Ebola is spreading faster than efforts to fight it, while some health workers are striking over a lack of pay. Read More New cases are doubling in some hot spots, Ghebreyesus said on X after meeting with officials in the capital, Kinshasa. Health authorities have said between 60% and 70% of new cases are recorded outside of contacts being monitored, and that the outbreak is spreading at an “alarming” rate.Access to healthcare in the region already had been challenged by years of rebel conflict in one of Congo’s most remote and vulnerable areas, near the borders of South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda.Several past Ebola outbreaks have also been declared late, including the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak. That outbreak was declared in March 2014, although the first human case later was found to have occurred in December 2013. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

Dan Campbell Reveals When He Expects Cade Mays to Return
The Detroit Lions are preparing to be without Cade Mays for quite a while, but Dan Campbell gave fans one important reason for optimism.Campbell said Mays is expected to miss a “significant” amount of time after suffering a wrist injury during practice. The Lions coach also indicated that he expects Mays to be ready when the stakes are highest. The playoffs.Lions Expect Cade Mays Back for Playoff PushMays injured his wrist when a defensive lineman chopped down on it during practice, creating another challenge for a Detroit offensive line that was counting on him to help solidify the center position.Campbell did not offer a specific return date, but his playoff expectation gives Detroit a general timeline. For the Lions, that means preparing for most, if not all, of the regular season without Mays while leaving the door open for his return during a potential postseason run. That is a significant loss.Mays was targeted by Detroit this offseason as part of an effort to strengthen the interior of the offensive line. His absence now forces the Lions to find another answer in front of Jared Goff.Detroit Has Time to Find an AnswerThere is at least some good news here.Mays’ season is not expected to be over.If Detroit can navigate the regular season and get healthy at the right time, adding Mays back to the offensive line before or during the playoffs could provide a valuable late-season boost.Of course, the Lions first have to get there. For Dan Campbell and his staff, the immediate priority becomes identifying who can handle the center position while Mays works his way back.Bottom LineCade Mays is facing a lengthy recovery from his wrist injury, and the Lions will have to adjust without a player they expected to play an important role up front.Campbell’s timetable still leaves Detroit with something to circle. If the Lions are playing postseason football, he expects Mays to be available. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, getting a key offensive lineman back when January arrives could matter quite a bit.

He was tipped to serve as Maye's left tackle, but wa moved to right guard after an injury-plagued first season. Here's what we know about Wallace's departure.MORE: Patriots Bring Back Player Who Once Earned LeBron James Shout-OutWhy Patriots Cut Caedan WallaceNew England drafted Wallace in the hopes that he would flip sides and fill the Patriots' greatest need across the line at left tackle. Wallace was traditionally deployed as a right tackle at Penn State, although his former offensive line coach believed Wallace could successfully transition to the left side."He hasn't taken any game reps, but he's taken many practice reps because I always make sure they're developing on both," former Nittany Lions offensive line coach Phil Trautwein told ESPN in 2024.MORE: Patriots Lock Up Key Drake Maye Weapon With Contract Extension"His career kind of was just different, but I would have no hesitation to put him on the left side."Wallace wasn't able to make it stick in the big leagues, falling victim to an ankle injury that landed him on IR as a rookie and appearing in just four games as a second-year player. Wallace moved to guard in his second season but failed to make much of an impact. He entered training camp as a backup across the interior line, but saw understudy Mekhi Butler leap over him in New England's latest depth chart. With Wallace's release, he becomes the sixth member of the Patriots' 2024 draft class to leave the roster. Dallas Cowboys news: Kenny Clark loves chemistry with Quinnen Williams
Most Cowboys fans would like to forget the specifics that brought defensive tackle Kenny Clark to Dallas about 54 weeks ago, since it involved trading away Micah Parsons, but Clark has been good for Dallas, as has been the other tackle the Cowboys got via trade, Quinnen Williams.Clark has opinions on Williams, and they are quite nice. So are the opinions Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby has about Dak Prescott. And happy news kept coming, as rookie Jaishawn Barham‘s injury isn’t serious.Dallas’ first preseason game is nearing and here is how the Cowboys are getting ready for it.More: Dallas Cowboys news. Can Dak Prescott make the Cowboys 'GOTI'?Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams building chemistryThe first anniversary of the Micah Parsons trade is two weeks away, which will also be the one-year anniversary of Clark joining the Dallas Cowboys as part of that trade. That was three months before tackle Quinnen Williams became a Cowboys through a trade with the New York Jets.More: Could Micah Parsons makes his return against the Dallas Cowboys?Since then Clark and Williams have developed quite a bit of chemistry playing together, and Clark expounded on that in a feature on DallasCowboys.com.“He's just a dog, man," Clark said of Williams. "He does things the right way, plays with great leverage. He's a big guy and is able to be able to bend, got good ankle flexibility and all that kind of stuff, can play with his hands well. We're going to need him to keep on holding those double teams, all the big guys for real, so we can have our linebackers skip over the top."Just how good does Clark think Williams is?”I haven't played with a d-tackle like that my whole career," Clark told DallasCowboys.com. "I played with a lot of great players, but a guy that's dominant like that at the defensive tackle position, he's a great player. I'm looking forward to that, I hope they slide to him and I can get me some one-on-ones, and we do what it do."Jaishawn Barham injury not seriousThe Cowboys got a scare when rookie linebacker Barham limped out of practice Thursday, but coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed the groin injury isn’t serious. He was held out of practice through Sunday and his return isn’t set, but won’t be far off.Barham had been having an impressive training camp, wooing his versatility as a linebacker and edge rusher. The third-rounder Barham was Dallas’ third pick, after Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence were drafted in the first round.Dallas has also gotten safety Jalen Thompson back from a minor injury sustained on the first day of training camp and he practiced over the weekend.Maxx Crosby lauds Dak PrescottThe NFL is rolling out its top 100 players list and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott checks in at No. 31, a 48-spot improvement from a year ago. NFL.com even got Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby to weigh in on Prescott, and it turns out he’s a fan."Every time he's out there, he's in command," Crosby said of Prescott. "If you're a player or coach, you know how good he is. He sees everything that's going on. He's the highest-paid quarterback for a reason."NFL.com’s explainer on Prescott says this: “Not among his peers, who nominated him to the NFL Top 100 list for a seventh time, but Prescott feels underrated and underappreciated across the NFL fandom despite (or maybe due to) playing for America’s Team. He led the NFL in completions for a second time in 2025 and has quarterbacked a top-seven scoring offense in four of the past five seasons, the outlier being a year he missed nine games. It was basically all on his shoulders last season due to an absent Dallas defense that gave up the most points in the league. Prescott nevertheless managed four fourth-quarter comebacks, over half of the Cowboys’ wins.”Dallas Cowboys first preseason game coming upThe Cowboys open their preseason on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Seattle Seahawks. Davies admits he 'owed' runs after Warwickshire win
Alex Davies hit an unbeaten 51 as Warwickshire beat Lancashire [Shutterstock]Warwickshire batter Alex Davies admitted he owes his teammates and supporters runs after helping steer the Bears to victory in their One-Day Cup win over Lancashire.Wicket-keeper Davies, who left Lancashire for Edgbaston in 2022, made an unbeaten 51 as the Bears chased 312 to win by two wickets at Rugby School on Sunday - and by doing so kept their slim hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals alive.By Davies' own admission, he has not accumulated as many runs this season as he would have hoped for or expected. He averaged just under 20 in the One-Day Cup prior to Sunday's knock which, along with the innings of Vansh Jani, who hit 88, proved a crucial contribution."I was just happy to spend some time out in the middle," Davies said. "It's been a pretty tough year. I'd say I'm down on runs - I owe the boys runs, I owe the club runs and I owe the fans runs."I was pretty determined to just be out there at the end. The way Vansh batted around me, I didn't really need to do much other than just be there at the end."Jani's 88 was a career-best score and was the latest eye-catching innings in the 21-year-old's List A campaign, in which he averages over 55 with the bat.A product of the South Asian Cricket Academy, Jani enjoyed first-team exposure last year but has progressed further across various formats this summer."I don't want to big him up too soon, or bring any unwanted attention but, without swearing, he's very good," Davies told BBC Sport."Seeing the way he has come into the squad…I don't want to make any too outlandish comments, but he's very good and it's been a joy to watch him bat."I've batted with him a couple of times in the warm up games. He's going to be a special player."Remarkably, although they are eighth in Group A, Warwickshire host Kent in their final group match on Tuesday still in with a chance of advancing to the knockout stage, but a number of permutations are likely to be required."We haven't worked out the specifics yet," Davies added."Whether it comes down to net run rate or it might be that we need to chase something down in 20 overs - if that's the case, we'll give it a crack and it might be entertaining."We will just control what we can control and, hopefully come Tuesday, we'll have the full picture."

New photo shows Trump’s bruises are spreading up his arm
Donald Trump has appeared in public with strange bruises on his hands for over a year now, but a photo taken this weekend at a golf tournament showed that they’re spreading up his arm, and people are concerned. “Trump is known for suspicious bruising, usually it’s the president’s hands—not arm—which draw attention,” Katie Francis wrote at The Daily Beast. “His mysterious bruising has spread.” Related Republicans keep on getting injured by handshakes. What’s up with that? She was referring to Trump’s attendance at the LIV Golf New York Tournament at Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey. A picture, captured by Reuters photojournalist Dennis Schneidler, shows bruises on his right forearm. The bruises have only been noticed on his hands before, but he rarely wears short sleeves in public. His white polo shirt at the golf tournament exposed the extent of the bruising. Francis also noted that Trump had Band-Aids on his fingers as well. Earlier this year, the White House attempted to explain the constant bruising by saying that Trump “hit his hand on the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise” at an event in Switzerland. Prior to that, the White House explanation for why Trump wears foundation to cover up his bruised hands was that he “shakes [Americans’] hands on a daily basis more than any other president in history” and that he has “chronic venous insufficiency,” which White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described as a benign condition.

AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Alabama’s special congressional primaries
The Alabama state capitol is seen during a special session of the Alabama Legislature, May 4, 2026, in Montgomery, Ala. (AP Photo/Mike Stewart, File)2026-08-10T14:14:19Z WASHINGTON (AP) — Voters in four of Alabama’s seven congressional districts will select U.S. House nominees Tuesday under a new map that eliminates one of the state’s two majority-Black districts currently represented by Democrats.Primaries for all seven congressional districts were originally scheduled for May 19, but Republican Gov. Kay Ivey postponed the contests for the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that prompted a handful of Republican-controlled Southern states to throw out their congressional maps. The court-inspired actions in Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee, as well as earlier legislative actions in other states to redraw their boundaries through mid-decade redistricting, were part of a nationwide Republican effort championed by President Donald Trump to maximize the party’s chances of holding its slim U.S. House majority in the 2026 midterm elections. Alabama’s U.S. House members will continue to serve in their current districts until the end of 2026. Candidates in Tuesday’s primaries are running under the new Republican-backed boundaries, which go into effect in January 2027. Both of Alabama’s Democratic members of Congress are seeking reelection in their newly configured districts and are unopposed in their primaries. In the 2nd District, where U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures is running for a second term, the Black population will go from half of the population under the current lines to about 40% under the new lines. In the 2024 presidential election, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris beat Trump in the current district, 53% to 46%. But Trump would have beaten Harris 57% to 42% if the new boundaries had been in effect in 2024. Six Republicans are running to challenge Figures in November, including state Rep. Rhett Marques, Army veteran Joshua McKee and real estate broker Hampton Harris. Trump has endorsed Marques, who is the field’s top fundraiser. Read More Black residents will maintain a slight majority in the new 7th District, where U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell is running for a ninth term. Harris beat Trump, 61% to 38%, under the current boundaries and would have beaten him by slightly less, 58% to 41%, if the new boundaries had been in effect in 2024. Two Republicans, Ammie Akin and David Perry, are competing for the nomination to unseat Sewell. Here are some of the key facts about the election and data points the AP Decision Team will monitor as the votes are tallied: When do polls close?Polls close at 7 p.m. CT, which is 8 p.m. ET.What’s on the ballot? The Associated Press will provide vote results and declare winners in contested primaries for the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts.Who gets to vote? The special primaries are open to any registered voters in their respective congressional districts. Although Alabama does not register voters by party, voters will be asked to declare a party preference upon selecting a party’s primary ballot. How many voters are there? As of June 1, there were 3.8 million registered voters in Alabama. Each congressional district in the state has a total population of about 718,000. How many people actually vote?About 409,000 ballots were cast across the state in the May 19 primaries, which was roughly 11% of registered voters. Past vote totals for the four new congressional districts are unavailable. How much of the vote is cast early or by absentee ballot? Relatively few Alabama voters cast their ballots before Election Day. The state is one of the only holdouts in the country not to offer some form of in-person early voting. In the 2024 primaries, about 4% of Democratic primary voters and about 1% of Republican primary voters voted by mail. When are early and absentee votes released?Vote release practices vary from county to county. Most counties tend to release results from absentee voting in the first vote update, sometimes along with results from in-person Election Day voting. How long does vote-counting usually take?In the May 19 state primary, the AP first reported results at 8:28 p.m. ET, or 28 minutes after polls closed. The last vote update of the night was at 12:54 a.m. ET, with more than 99.9% of total votes counted. When will the AP declare a winner? The AP does not make projections and will declare a winner only when it’s determined there is no scenario that would allow a trailing candidate to close the gap. If a race has not been called, the AP will continue to cover any newsworthy developments, such as candidate concessions or declarations of victory. In doing so, the AP will make clear that it has not yet declared a winner and explain why. How do recounts work?In 2010, the Alabama attorney general issued an opinion that Alabama’s automatic recount law does not apply to primaries. The AP may declare a winner in a race that is subject to a recount if it can determine the lead is too large for a recount or legal challenge to change the outcome. Are we there yet?As of Tuesday, there will be 84 days until the 2026 midterm elections.___Follow the AP’s coverage of the 2026 election at https://apnews.com/projects/elections-2026/. Blink-182’s Travis Barker almost died. A new documentary celebrates his life before and after
Travis Barker poses for a portrait in New York on Thursday, June 11, 2026. (Photo by Matt Licari/Invision/AP)2026-08-10T14:00:42Z NEW YORK (AP) — The inferno rages onscreen three minutes into “ Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear.” Dashcam footage lifted from a police car shows the blaze: It’s 2008, and Barker has survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Four others did not. And then, a cut. The documentary, which follows the Blink-182 drummer from 2017 to 2026, is a celebration of Barker’s life before and after the life-altering accident, a central event in a career full of them. The film began as a mirror of his memoir, 2015’s “Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums,” but became something else entirely after a producer suggested it end with the image of Barker, then still unable to fly due to post-traumatic stress disorder, walking toward a plane.Ending on that note, “where this thing still has power over me,” didn’t sit well with him. Instead, he boards a plane at the end, but the documentary’s final images are a slide show of family photos, including his wife Kourtney Kardashian and kids.“I almost died,” he says. It “could be helpful to share my life.” An elastic artistBarker’s resume is long, and a two-and-a-half-hour documentary can only cover so much of it. The film hits most of the big notes, quickly establishing Barker as a rebellious kid with a supernatural drumming ability from age 4, when he got his first kit, to now, at 50. And that’s with many projects in-between: From the SoCal punks Feeble, which he joined while working as a trash collector, to his stint in the ska band The Aquabats and multiplatinum, pop-punk legends Blink-182 — the band that skyrocketed Barker into superstardom. Also covered? His love of skateboarding and car culture, his clothing brands, side-projects Box Car Racer and +44, turntable duo TRV$DJAM, various experiments and collaborations in hip-hop (Bun B, Lil Wayne ) and beyond. But it all began with drumming, and hilariously enough, Animal from “The Muppets” — his first drumming hero — until he discovered cross-genre greats like jazz legends Buddy Rich, Dennis Chambers and Elvin Jones as well as Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee. Read More “Where drumming got really serious for me was after my mom passed, so it was therapy,” he says, reflecting on his childhood. “It’s like my life. It’s like oxygen to me.” It’s also a kind of sport. Barker has long been a dedicated, athletic percussionist, and he likens it to a boxer’s meditative state. “It’s like when you see a fighter and he just goes for broke the first round. There’s sometimes where I just feel like that,” he says. “Something just takes over my body.”Many events in life threatened that euphoria, but none quite as physically as the plane crash. “I was in a burn center for six months on morphine and I had 30 surgeries,” he recounts. “Seventy percent of my body was burned.” At one point, he didn’t only fear if he would be able to drum again — even walking was a question mark.Lessons from tragedyEven before the crash, Barker’s life — as marked with musical triumphs as it has been — offered lessons in resiliency. “Whether it was my mom passing away or my plane crash, I learned — and through watching friends of mine and just living life — I’ve seen traumatic experiences either destroy someone or define them,” he says. “Every loss I had, or every everything I took to the chin, it made me stronger. At the time, I can’t realize it, right? I can’t like really wrap my head around it. But ... that’s why I went so hard and I was so determined to play music and so determined to succeed. Plan B was only making Plan A work. You know? There was no Plan B.”The same tenacity can be applied to his sobriety and dedication to flying again — a journey emboldened by his family. “I fly all the time now and I feel turbulence and I can’t even tell you what’s going on in my head. And I just look over and my wife’s perfectly OK,” he says. “My son loves airplanes and plays with airplanes and it’s so innocent. It’s so beautiful.” “They’ve been my greatest joy,” he says of his children, who grow up on screen across the film’s near-decade of filming. As someone who has lost a lot and thought about what it would be like to lose even more, when it comes to the topic of legacy, Barker has a simple dream. “I think I’d want to be remembered for my music and my drumming and being a great father, husband, and son and brother,” he says. As for the doc? “Maybe my story helps somebody,” he pauses. “I don’t love how everything happened. I don’t like the losses that happened. But I like how hard I had to work. I like that I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I liked that I had to navigate and find my way. And the journey was awesome.” MARIA SHERMAN Maria Sherman is the music reporter at The Associated Press. She is based in New York City. mailto

Mark Zuckerberg Posts Deranged 6,500-Word Essay About Giving Everyone AI Superintelligence
Mark Zuckerberg, whose superyacht apparently spent the weekend ignoring or missing the distress signal from a boat that ran out of fuel near Alaska, has posted a deranged, 6,500 word essay detailing his vision for AI superintelligence, a future that is “for everyone” but which sounds less social than ever.Zuckerberg posts these types of essays every so often for purposes that serve his own company, and this one, called “The Future Is For Everyone,” is designed to defend against general backlash to AI but also to Meta’s own practices. Zuckerberg lays out the potential use case for Meta glasses (whose huge marketing campaign cannot get people to stop calling them “pervert glasses”), AI agents, open weights AI development, and why data centers are not bad for communities, actually. Like most Silicon Valley “utopian” essays, to believe that any of this is going to go how Zuckerberg suggests it will requires one to have been recently concussed or to willfully ignore how this technology is being used today and believe that thousands of years of human nature will suddenly shift. For example, Zuckerberg writes “Everyone will have an exceptionally capable personal agent that understands you, your goals, and everything you care about. Your agent will work 24/7 on your behalf to improve your relationships, health, career, finances, home management, hobbies, and more. It will free up time for the things you enjoy, and help you accomplish more than you could otherwise. It will have strong privacy and security options so you can trust it to handle all of your personal content knowing that no one else can access your information, similar to how encryption works on WhatsApp. You’ll be able to interact with your agent through any device, including your glasses to keep you present in the moment with the people you care about.” Zuckerberg does not grapple with, or even gesture at, the idea that some people may not want to have an AI agent working on their “hobbies.” He does not consider that, even if everyone were to have an AI agent, perhaps not everyone would use these AI agents for good. In the few months that AI agents have become popular among the early adopter set, we have seen “benevolent” AI agents endlessly spam humans and the internet with drivel. And those are just the kind-of-annoying ones. We have seen AI agents hack companies, and over the weekend an Australian man went viral because his AI agent that he asked to sign him up for gym classes did so by hacking the gym’s reservation system and canceling other people’s reservations. Like many AI weirdos, Zuckerberg explains how AI has already changed his life by allowing him to automate many of the joyful tasks of parenting by outsourcing them to an agent: “My agent flags interesting information and helps me prototype ideas. It helps keep me healthy by monitoring my sleep and then watching as I train and giving feedback. My daughter loves to bake so my agent plans personalized recipes for us to make together each weekend, orders the ingredients, and then offers suggestions as we’re baking,” he writes. “My 8 year old daughter can already code her ideas and produce videos in an evening that would have either taken me months or been impossible previously. Now we’re designing a robot together.”Zuckerberg’s essay goes on and on and on like this. He imagines a future where everyone can do everything and wants to do everything. In Zuckerberg’s future, everyone will have a business run by their AI agent. Everyone will be inventing things and doing basic research on the nature of the universe and physical elements, for some reason. Zuckerberg writes that Meta employees, with the help of AI, are “generating novel crystal structures that are ideal for augmented reality glasses,” then writes “everyone will soon have invention superpowers,” and that “everyone […] will be able to contribute to scientific progress.”In this future that, again, is for “everyone,” Zuckerberg explains that AI tools will be free, but that, actually, using it will be a tiered system that is exactly the same as it is now: “For everyone to be part of the future, everyone must have the ability to use superintelligence to improve their lives and shape the world. We will offer free versions that will be accessible to billions of people. For those who want to pay to use more compute, there will be a dynamic auction mechanism that will guarantee that everyone gets the lowest price possible for the intelligence and compute they’re using while also ensuring the capacity is used for whatever people collectively find most valuable.”Zuckerberg’s essay is full of platitudes and sentences that mean nothing, “thought experiments” that are not developed or explored in any way, discussions of “freedom,” etc. Here are some sentences: “Humanity is not a monoculture. People’s diverse values represent different tradeoffs they would make on important issues. There is no technological solution that can align with everyone’s opposing interests and values at once.”“As a thought experiment, imagine only one person had a superintelligent lawyer. They would have an unfair advantage in court — even if they were wrong on the merits. That would lead to a worse society. But now imagine everyone has a superintelligent lawyer. In this case, justice would be carried out much more fairly and efficiently than it is today when there is often an imbalance in skills and resources in litigation.”“People have an infinite demand for new experiences and have always found new problems to tackle.”“While the number of questions a person can ask in a day is limited, the number of valuable things superintelligence can invent to help achieve your goals is unlimited.”“If people can use AI to invent incredibly valuable new things, then it will make more sense to allocate it towards that rather than automating existing jobs. The more superintelligence serves as a tool of invention, the more likely that individual capability outpaces automation and the future is better for people.”“In a free society, people will have tools that can be used for good or harm, but law enforcement and military have more weapons and intelligence-gathering.”There is an entire section on data centers. In Zuckerberg’s future they are powered by power infrastructure Meta owns (which is not the case currently) and create lots of high-paying, long-lasting jobs (not the case currently). There is an entire section on “preventing government tyranny” by giving everyone superintelligence: “To maintain freedom, we must ensure that superintelligence primarily empowers individuals. The ideal in liberal democracy is that people naturally hold all rights and only agree to restrict some freedoms to protect the common good. Similarly, individuals should have access to personal superintelligence and should only be subject to restrictions when truly required.”Zuckerberg does not address the backlash to his company, his data centers, his social media platforms, or his surveillance glasses. He does not discuss the slopification of the internet, gestures at job loss only through the lens that superintelligence will somehow fix it once AI agents start businesses for everyone or “invent incredibly valuable new things,” and describes a future in which bad actors essentially do not exist or are easily dispatched with. It’s the future Zuckerberg wants. It’s not the future “everyone” wants.

Breakaway World Cup on the cards? FIFA slammed in latest statement
Breakaway World Cup on the cards? FIFA slammed in latest statementCan you imagine an alternative World Cup without Argentina or Brazil? Or the best African nations such as Ivory Coast or Senegal? Well, it could be a possibility amid the backlash to FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The Swiss sportocrat has been in hot water ever since his secret plan to sell off a stake in the men’s FIFA World Cup was rumbled by The Times, with much of the football world denouncing the scheme and his presidency. UEFA have led the opposition to Infantino, promising to boycott FIFA events unless he is removed from his position. That position remains unshaken after Infantino received the backing of FIFA’s management board, despite receiving criticism from high-level officials from within the governing body itself, following a crisis meeting in Rabat, Morocco last week. UEFA reiterated that the conditions for ending their boycott had not been met and that it has “lost confidence” in Infantino. No other confederation had gone as far as the European governing body in their response, but now AFC and CONCACAF have joined forces with them to put out a scathing statement. The trio of confederations published an ‘open letter to the football family’ on Monday, pushing for Infantino to resign and calling for “leadership that serves football, not seeks to command it”.“Leadership in football is not a possession,” the letter reads. “It is not about holding – or demanding – power to be held. It is a duty of service to the football family that entrusts it. When trust is broken through deception, when an individual places himself above the collective that entrusted him with authority, that duty has been abandoned.” Breakaway World Cup on the cards? FIFA slammed by UEFA, AFC and CONCACAFMultiple reports claim that early discussions have taken place about organising alternative competitions between themselves, raising the possibility of a breakaway World Cup featuring nations from Asia, Europe and North America, but not South America or Africa, where Infantino retains a lot of support. The letter, which is signed by Aleksander Ceferin, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and Victor Montagliani, the presidents of UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF respectively, strongly criticises FIFA’s response to the scandal. “It treats this as a failure of communication, when what football witnessed was a failure of judgment,” the letter says. “It did not acknowledge that the proposal itself was inherently wrong. There remains no recognition that attempting to sell an interest in the FIFA World Cup was a profound failure of judgment – not just a procedural misstep, but a fundamental breach of trust with the very institutions FIFA exists to serve.”FIFA has promised to deliver a full report on the events concerning the ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ to the FIFA Council, but the three confederations have demanded an independent review into the controversy. “There is silence where there should be accountability, distance where there should be openness … Football’s strength has always been its unity. We call for that unity to be honoured now, with leadership that serves football, not seeks to command it,” the letter concludes.Read – Every Premier League kit released ahead of 2026/27 seasonFantasy Premier League –69 classic FPL team names to use ahead of 2026/27See Also – The biggest transfer fees ever paid for teenagers in football historyFollow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTok

Liverpool dismiss reports they submitted €115m bid for PSG forward Bradley Barcola
Liverpool dismiss reports they submitted €115m bid for PSG forward Bradley BarcolaLiverpool are pursuing a deal for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola. Reports in France claimed the Premier League club submitted a €115 million bid for the 23-year-old. But The Athletic’s James Pearce says the senior club sources have dismissed those claims. They insist such an offer would have been pointless, with PSG demanding a huge €170m for their prized asset. If the Ligue 1 giants remain adamant on their price tag, Liverpool may turn their attention to alternative targets. Mohamed Salah’s departure has left a significant void in the Reds’ attack. While finding a like-for-like replacement for the Egyptian is difficult, the Merseyside club are looking to bring in someone who can add pace, creativity and goals. Barcola has emerged as one of the best young forwards since joining PSG from Lyon in 2023. He has made 152 appearances across all competitions, bagging 39 goals and 37 assists in the process. Barcola can play across the frontline and is highly rated for his blistering pace, ball-carrying ability and dribbling skills. He is young and has proven himself at the top level of football. Encouragingly for Liverpool, the Frenchman is believed to favour a move to Anfield. But agreeing a deal with PSG is proving difficult, as they are demanding a €170m fee. The forward’s contract at the Parc des Princes will expire in 2028, and he has made it clear he won’t sign a new deal. Stats from Transfermarkt

3 Centers Brad Holmes Should Call After Cade Mays Injury
The Detroit Lions still have a problem at center, but the situation is not nearly as daunting as it first appeared.Cade Mays, who Detroit targeted this offseason to strengthen the middle of its offensive line, fractured a small bone in his wrist and is expected to miss roughly 8 to 10 weeks. That timeline is far more encouraging than Dan Campbell’s earlier suggestion that Mays might not return until the playoffs. If his recovery stays on schedule, Mays could be back before the midpoint of the regular season. That changes the equation for Brad Holmes.Detroit may not need to find a long-term replacement. It may simply need a veteran capable of holding things together for the first several weeks of the season. There are still options available. Graham Glasgow, James Daniels and Ryan Bates are all veteran free agents with center experience who could make sense for the Lions. Here are three names Detroit should consider.1. Graham GlasgowSometimes the simplest answer is still the best one.Bring Graham Glasgow back.Glasgow started at center for the Lions in 2025, so the familiarity is already built in. He knows Jared Goff, the offense, the terminology and many of the players around him.For a temporary solution, that matters.Detroit would not be asking Glasgow to become the long-term answer at center again. The Lions would be asking him to provide stability for the first part of the season while Mays works his way back. His 2025 season was not dominant. PFF gave Glasgow a 56.8 overall grade, with a 61.3 pass-blocking grade and a 54.3 run-blocking grade. Across 873 offensive snaps, he allowed 19 pressures, eight quarterback hits and one sack while committing two penalties. Those numbers help explain why Detroit looked to upgrade the position. They also do not erase the value of experience. With Mays potentially returning before the season reaches its halfway point, Glasgow would not need to be the answer for 17 games. He would need to keep the operation clean, protect Goff and give Detroit a reliable bridge. That is a much more reasonable assignment.2025 PFF numbers: 56.8 overall, 61.3 pass blocking, 54.3 run blocking, 873 snaps, 19 pressures allowed, 1 sack allowed.2. James DanielsJames Daniels is listed primarily as a guard, but his experience across the interior makes him worth a phone call. The former Iowa standout has 85 career NFL starts, including eight at center, along with plenty of work at both guard spots. That versatility could give Dan Campbell and offensive line coach Hank Fraley more flexibility while Mays is sidelined. The obvious question is health.Daniels played only three offensive snaps for Miami in 2025 before landing on injured reserve. PFF gave him a 59.6 overall grade, 71.0 in pass protection and 59.4 as a run blocker, but three snaps are far too small a sample to mean much. His 2024 performance is more interesting. Before his season ended after four games, Daniels posted a 92.9 overall PFF grade. If Detroit’s medical staff likes what it sees, Daniels could offer more upside than a typical late-summer free-agent signing. And with Mays now expected back within 8 to 10 weeks, the Lions would not necessarily need Daniels to carry the position deep into December.2025 PFF numbers: 59.6 overall, 71.0 pass blocking, 59.4 run blocking, 3 offensive snaps, 0 pressures allowed, 0 sacks allowed.3. Ryan BatesRyan Bates would be more of a depth play. The former Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears lineman has experience at multiple interior positions and could give Detroit another veteran body capable of competing at center and guard. There is not much 2025 film to evaluate because Bates did not play an offensive snap for Chicago last season. That makes him a tougher sell as someone Detroit should immediately trust with the starting center job.As an inexpensive veteran brought in to compete, provide insurance and help the Lions survive the opening stretch of the season? That makes more sense. The shorter Mays timeline actually helps Bates’ case. Detroit may not need a high-end replacement. It may need a competent stopgap.2025 PFF numbers: 0 offensive snaps, no qualifying PFF grade, 0 sacks allowed, 0 pressures allowed.Glasgow Makes Even More Sense With the New TimelineThe updated Mays timeline changes this discussion quite a bit.If Detroit believed it would be without Mays until January, Holmes might have needed to pursue the best available center regardless of cost or fit.An 8-to-10-week absence is different. Now the Lions can think in terms of a bridge. That makes Glasgow especially appealing. He already has chemistry with Goff. He already understands the protection system. He already knows what Campbell expects from the offense. There would be very little time wasted getting him acclimated.Detroit moved on because it believed Mays could upgrade the position. Reuniting with Glasgow for a few months would not reverse that decision. It would simply give the Lions a veteran safety net until Mays is ready to take over again.Bottom LineBrad Holmes still has work to do, but the Cade Mays injury no longer looks like a season-long crisis. With Mays expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks, Detroit may only need a temporary answer at center before getting its preferred starter back sometime before the midpoint of the regular season.Graham Glasgow remains the cleanest fit, James Daniels offers upside if healthy, and Ryan Bates could provide inexpensive depth. The shorter recovery timeline makes one thing clear: Detroit does not need to find the perfect center. It needs to find the right bridge.

Remember when GOP Sen. Ted Cruz said, ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles’ during a Congress speech?
In what appeared to be a moment of misspeaking, anti-LGBTQ+ Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) said in a recent congressional speech, “How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles’?” During a congressional hearing on the current president’s actions addressing crime in cities — which seems mostly to be insulting large city mayors, ignoring higher-crime areas in red states, and then sending in armed federal officers against the mayors’ wishes — Sen. Cruz referred to Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-NJ) plea for Democrats and Republicans to “come together and have bipartisan agreement.” Related Ted Cruz labels solar eclipse program for kids as “woke nonsense” pushing neo-Marxist propaganda “I think that’s a great idea. We should have bipartisan agreement,” Cruz said. “How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop murder’? How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop rape’? How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles’?” While Sen. Cruz didn’t correct himself, he might be interested to know that the current Republican presidential administration has dismantled most government oversight agencies and departmental civil rights divisions that could have taken steps to lower murder, rape, and pedophilia. House Republican House Speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson (LA) has also taken steps to stop House members from voting to release the sealed government investigation files related to the high-profile accomplices of convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who was once the president’s friend.

The Mayor Who Said 'No' When Flock Came to Town
Norman, Oklahoma is a Flockless outpost on the outskirts of the Oklahoma City metro area. As you drive south down I-35 away from the big city and into Norman, coverage from the automated license plate readers (ALPR) dwindles. That’s because Norman has rejected Flock’s pitch multiple times.“They've given us two presentations in the last three years at the request of our police department who wanted to implement them,” Stephen Tyler Holman, the mayor of Norman, told me. “They haven’t been back since I’ve been mayor.”Norman is an outlier. When the surveillance company comes to a city or a town, the city often signs up. The city council in my small town of 12,000 people just voted to install 22 new Flock cameras despite overwhelming pushback from residents. A big centerpiece of Flock’s pitch was that it would help solve crimes. My town’s chief of police told a story about how Flock had been instrumental in arresting child predators. Holman told me that Flock and the cops made the same pitch to Norman. “Crime prevention and helping the police more efficiently solve crime. That was their main point that they wanted to advocate for,” he said. “They really focused on amber alerts and silver alerts and ‘don't you want to find kidnapped kids and elderly people that have wandered off who have Alzheimer's?’”But Norman’s leaders had questions about privacy and data security and they didn’t like Flock’s answers. “Those were some of the reasons why we ended up not doing it,” Holman said. “Questions about data storage and how long and who has access to it […] you're gathering data on every single car vehicle that goes in and out of the city of Norman, regardless of if they've committed a crime or not, and then that's stored for 30 days on some kind of database? Who has access to it? How secure is it? Those are the questions we have that were kind of deal breakers for us [...] 30 days seemed like a long time to sit on that much data. There were some council members that were like, ‘It should only be an hour. Thirty minutes.’ Why do you need it any longer than that? Why would you need to keep it for 30 days? How is it accessed? How secure is it?”All of the city council’s nine members said no to Flock. Since then, Holman has watched with some small satisfaction as other cities push back. Cops keep getting into trouble for using the cameras to stalk people, the system makes mistakes, and one of its ex-workers recently told 404 Media that the company lied to him about its business practices. More than 80 cities across the country have cancelled Flock contracts. None of them are near Norman, which sits on the border of Oklahoma City — a city covered in Flock cameras. According to Holman, the company played this up in its most recent presentation saying that “people would find that out and they’d come to commit crime in Norman because they know that we don’t have Flock cameras.”But Norman’s city council doesn’t control every square inch of Norman and its surroundings. Despite their best efforts, Flock cameras have gotten in. The city sits in Cleveland county and county leaders approved the installation of 20 cameras for use by the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office. “There are numerous homeowners associations that use them too,” Holman said. “But the city of Norman government does not. We’re, I guess, the only ones around here that don’t.”Holman said that Norman’s politics are difficult to explain. “It’s neither liberal nor conservative,” he said. “Our three state reps are Democrats but two of them represent Republican majority voter districts.” He said the tension between the major parties and a healthy swath of independent voters has made citizens engaged with local politics and that constituents have sent a clear anti-Flock message. “Pretty much everywhere else around here absolutely would just roll over and approve something like this. Nobody would show up and protest it. And if they did, the councils probably wouldn't care. But in Norman it’s a big deal and people can lose re-election over stuff like this and have,” he said.Holman served on the city council for 12 years before becoming mayor last year. He said one of the issues that turned people against the previous mayor was the purchase of a Bearcat APC for the local police department. In the 20 years after the start of America’s wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, town and city police departments have purchased a lot of military surplus gear from the Pentagon. “Things like a Bearcat would be rubber stamp approved in most cities. In Norman it took them 10 years and [passed] barely by a five-four vote of our previous mayor who I ran against and beat,” Holman said. The APC is still causing controversy in Norman.Buying an armored car for the police 10 years after it was fashionable to do so is one thing. Private companies installing police cameras is another. “There’s a lot of folks here who are weary about government surveillance, especially giving that over to a private company,” Holman said.Holman told me he’d been watching the city council meetings like mine where mayors and representatives fight with the voting public about their concerns. “I would really encourage them to listen to the public, listen to the people they represent in their cities and the very valid concerns that folks have about this technology and the private company itself, Flock, and the issues that have arisen with them and why many cities have started to explore pulling out,” he said.He said that concerned citizens have a right to be worried about the conduct and ethics of a company like Flock. “I always come back to the freedom versus safety thing, this conversation we’ve been having since our founding,” Holman said. “That conversation may not resonate with a mayor like yours. There seems to be a lot of folks that are completely willing to give up all freedom for perceived safety. Well, I guess all crime could be eliminated if you put cameras everywhere, surveillance everywhere, and had drones patrolling the skies. That seems to be the way some folks want to go but what life are we living then?

Colts QB Anthony Richardson Sr. is just 24 years old but already facing a critical preseason
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. turned 24 years old in May. And yet, it seems like his NFL career is slipping away fast. Richardson was the fourth pick of the NFL Draft just three years ago. According to the Colts’ depth chart he is currently on equal footing for the team’s backup quarterback job with Riley Leonard, a sixth-round pick from a year ago who was benched in favor of 44-year-old Philip Rivers coming out of retirement late last season. When the Colts put out their depth chart on Monday, it listed the QB2 behind Daniel Jones as Richardson or Leonard. Colts coach Shane Steichen hasn’t said which quarterback will start Thursday’s preseason opener for the team, but both will play most of the game. This clearly wasn’t part of the plan when the Colts made one of the biggest draft gambles in recent memory with Richardson, a raw and inexperienced quarterback out of Florida who had an athletic profile that was off the charts. After 15 NFL starts, we’re already projecting which team will give Richardson his second chance. Whenever Richardson does play this preseason, it’s going to be very important for him to play well. Anthony Richardson Sr. is competing for the Colts' backup quarterback job. (Photo by Michael Hickey/Getty Images)Michael Hickey via Getty ImagesAnthony Richardson Sr. battling for a spot somewhereRichardson made a trade request in February, but no deal has happened and also seems unlikely to happen six months later. It’s hard to say where it all leaves Richardson. Jones is without any question the Colts’ starter. Leonard is at least tied with Richardson on the depth chart. If Richardson can’t beat him out, perhaps the Colts just admit the mistake and release him before the season. Some team would take a shot at fixing him if he is cut. We’ve seen flashes of the talent that made Richardson a top four pick, and he still has the impressive size, arm strength and athleticism at a young age. We’ve seen other highly drafted quarterbacks take advantage of a second chance elsewhere. But it needs to be a complete reboot. Richardson hasn’t shown NFL-level accuracy yet. He has just a 50.6% completion percentage. His decision making hasn’t been great, which shouldn’t have been a big surprise after just 13 college starts. He probably should have been a mid- or late-round pick who could develop slowly, instead of having the burden of being such a high pick and playing right away. And not that Richardson needed more questions on his ledger, but he has even had issues catching shotgun snaps this training camp. And on top of all of the flaws in Richardson’s game, there is his injury history too. Richardson’s injury historyRichardson suffered a fractured orbital bone when he was hit in the face by a resistance band in pregame warmups. He was out for two months, and when he came back Colts coach Shane Steichen said he still had some vision limitations. Over the weekend, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Richardson might still be dealing with issues with his vision. That’s a question teams will have to answer when and if Richardson becomes available. Richardson already had other injury issues that slowed his development. Unless Richardson wins the No. 2 job in Indianapolis and gets a chance to play in the regular season, he might be down to a few preseason games to put something positive on tape for other teams to look at. Or to save his career in Indianapolis, though he has already said he wants out. A poor preseason would give other teams even more hesitancy to invest in him, other than a blind bet on his draft pedigree. There aren’t many quarterbacks drafted as highly as Richardson who have washed out of the NFL after just 15 starts. The Colts threw in the towel quickly, pivoting to Jones last offseason. It looked even worse for Richardson when Jones played very well before his Achilles injury. Richardson is in danger of fading further into obscurity even though he has fewer than what amounts to a full season of NFL starts. Had everything worked out as planned for his career, he’d be sitting out this preseason, staying healthy for his start in the regular season opener. Instead, Richardson has three preseason games ahead of him to make a new impression on his team or anyone else thinking about giving him a second chance if he gets released, or perhaps even in a low-cost trade. At age 24, he has already reached a critical juncture in his career.

Four Chiefs veterans miss practice ahead of preseason matchup vs. Rams
Four veterans missed the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp practice session on August 10 ahead of the team's preseason exhibition against the Los Angeles Rams. Kansas City's defense was without cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, pass-rusher Omarr Norman-Lott, and linebacker Drue Tranquill. Pro Bowl lineman Trey Smith was the lone non-participant among the Chiefs' offensive starters. Sneed and Norman-Lott are said to be dealing with knee injuries while Tranquill and Smith are on the mend with back and hip injuries, respectively. Beat writer Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest was the first reporter to break the news of the veterans' status in a post to his Twitter account on Monday morning: Chiefs not practicing Monday; RG Trey Smith (hip), LB Drue Tranquill (back), CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee) and DT Omarr Norman-Lott (PUP-knee)— Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) August 10, 2026While Kansas City's coaching staff isn't likely to give its starters much playing time in Week 1 of the preseason, any setbacks for Sneed, Norman-Lott, Tranquill, or Smith could have a major effect on the Chiefs' 2026 regular-season campaign, which will off next month. Fantasy Football Roundtable: Here's the 1 player each of our analysts is having a tough time ranking for 2026
At the top of fantasy football drafts for 2026, you’re going to find the usual suspects — Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Ja’Marr Chase. These players have been staples at the top of fantasy drafts for a handful of season now. That’s the easy part of ranking players. The difficult part is ranking the rest of the player pool, whether it’s because of injuries, being on a new team or incoming rookies leeching usage. Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonYahoo analysts Hayden Winks, Joel Smyth, Josh Norris, Justin Boone, Matt Harmon and Scott Pianowski share the player they’re having a difficult time ranking for 2026. Omarion Hampton, RB, ChargersThe upside is obvious. Fast and extremely strong, it’s easy to see how he’s the best pick in Round 2 if he reaches his potential in the Chargers’ suddenly explosive rushing offense with Mike McDaniel. His offenses in Miami were routinely first in YPC against single-high or two-high shell coverages because he’d get his backs to the perimeter in unique ways. The OL looks improved as well. At the same time, Hampton’s rookie tape did not routinely stand out. He played hesitant between the tackles and really struggled in pass protection. If the former remains an issue, it’s entirely possible that Keaton Mitchell carves out 8-10 touches per game as the most efficient back in the nerdy rushing categories since 2023. If protection remains an issue, it’s entirely possible that Kimani Vidal carves out the passing-down role as a quality protector and receiver. There’s history of a tandem approach here, and that makes me nervous at the top of Round 2. I totally understand others taking the “McDaniel goes brrrr” approach. I rank him 19th, while my Yahoo teammates rank him 15th. We’re splitting hairs. — Hayden WinksRJ Harvey, RB, BroncosI have generally been out on Harvey, not because his situation is poor, but because of the gap in rushing efficiency we saw last season between himself and J.K. Dobbins. I’m not the biggest believer in his rushing talent after plenty of red flags in Year 1, but Harvey managed to finish as a low-end RB2 in his rookie season on great receiving and some TD luck. On one end, Dobbins returns, with what came across as an emphatic need for the veteran leader to come back to Denver out of Broncos’ camp, on top of the addition of Jonah Coleman leads me to believe Harvey is seen as more of a role player than future star RB. And yet, at the same time, he’s being drafted very late with a lot of crazy-good factors to aid his fantasy potential. Denver may very well have the best run blocking offensive line in football, a great coach and QB pair for a fantasy RB, receiving volume for their backs, with the other two running backs being a rookie and the most injury-prone starting RB in the league. In my mind, Harvey is going to be riding your fantasy bench all season, or eventually finding himself with enough volume in such an amazing scenario it’s difficult to ever take him out of the lineup. To show how difficult it’s been for me, I have him in my “not drafting” list, and then when it came to the Yahoo analyst mock draft, he fell so far that I selected him anyway. — Joel SmythLuther Burden III, WR, BearsIf Burden vs. Colston Loveland vs. Rome Odunze wasn’t already a headache to predict — we were just handed a fantasy football chaos timeline with Burden expected to miss the remainder of the preseason with a groin injury, but be fit to play for Week 1. Nightmare. The optimistic side: Ben Johnson’s ability to generate space and force the football into the hands of his best players is an ideal fit with Burden, who is a maverick with the ball in his hands. Crossing routes, screens, in-breakers — the catch and run opportunities are endless, and Burden showed during his rookie season that he is developing isolated route-running chops to win versus man coverage and a feel for zone. The step forward in Year 2 could actually be a gigantic leap as the headline pass-catcher. The pessimistic view is obvious — there was already a chance Burden was being overdrafted in the fourth/fifth round before the injury. Now? We’ve seen a number of players have disappointing seasons after missing training camp, either due to holding out or injury. And even if Burden does play in Week 1, will he be 100%? 80%? And how high is the re-injury risk? Burden is equally a potential league-winning talent and a possible landmine early in drafts. — Josh NorrisTreVeyon Henderson, RB, PatriotsWhile I love Henderson’s talent and obvious high-end potential for fantasy, it’s impossible to ignore the likelihood of another year spent sharing time with Rhamondre Stevenson. As a rookie, Henderson was productive with 1,132 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns, but that was boosted by the stretch run when Stevenson dealt with injuries. From Week 8 on, Henderson flashed as the RB12 in fppg, including two outings with at least 150 yards and two scores. However, when you listen to people around the team, it’s evident the veteran is still the one the coaching staff trusts more. There’s no doubt an explosive young ball carrier like Henderson offers a league-winning ceiling, unfortunately he’s been unable to prove himself worthy as a pass-protector and consistent between-the-tackles runner. If the mistakes continue, it will be difficult to justify the ADPs in this backfield — with Henderson’s being taken at the Round 4-5 turn as the RB22 and the starter Stevenson going off the board as the RB28 at the end of the sixth round. Unless something changes, Stevenson will begin the season offering RB3 fantasy production with Henderson being a boom-or-bust weekly RB3/flex with massive upside if/when the depth chart shifts. — Justin BooneRashee Rice, WR, ChiefsI recognize that over the last two seasons, Rashee Rice has been WR5 in points per game and WR12 since entering the NFL in 2023. While the “per game” is clearly doing a lot of heavy lifting for someone who has only played in 12 contests during that time, the analysis should be simple here; when Rice is on the field, he’s one of the most productive players at the position, so just dock him a slight bit based on the off-field risks. He is the consensus-ranked WR11 in industry rankings and WR12 in Yahoo ADP the last week. That should be enough but those designations assume that he’ll have the same high-volume role he’s always held and that’s where I’m unconvinced. To put into context how much volume matters for Rice: 112 wide receivers have run 600 or more route since 2023 and Rice’s 4.69 air yards per target ranks 112th, with a decent gap to 111th in Greg Dortch at 5.23. With Kenneth Walker III in town to provide a real-deal rushing game, some of those underneath “extension-of-the-run-game targets” could disappear, especially around the goal line. The Chiefs were a massively underwhelming offense last year while funneling so many short targets to Rice; they have every incentive to mix up their approach. To this point in his career, Rice has shown little evidence on film he can win against man coverage and down field to offset any loss in volume. Juggling his impressive past production against the future projection is tricky and that’s without mentioning off-field and injury red flags. — Matt HarmonMalik Nabers, WR, GiantsThe pro case for Nabers is obvious, as he was the sixth pick in his draft class and finished WR8 as a rookie. But his second year was a washout, as ACL and meniscus tears ended his season in September. Nabers was able to avoid the PUP list this summer, but he’s yet to participate in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills – he’s not out of the woods yet. He’s starting from scratch with QB Jaxson Dart, as they played just one game together last year. John Harbaugh was an inspired hire at head coach, but can we trust new OC Matt Nagy? Although Nabers presents tantalizing upside with an ADP in the mid-30s, we have to accept that he’s working with a shaky floor, too. — Scott Pianowski

DiJonai Carrington ‘definitely one of the dirtiest players in WNBA’ as Dave Portnoy slams ‘white privilege’ comment
Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty ImagesDiJonai Carrington has been labelled as one of the ‘dirtiest players in WNBA’ by Dave Portnoy in the latest row over her hard foul on Sophie Cunningham.Carrington was ejected from the court in the first quarter of Chicago Sky’s 86-90 loss to the Indiana Fever when she performed a hard foul on Cunningham when she went up for an open layup. The postgame comments from Carrington have caused plenty of debate and Barstool Sports owner Portnoy is the latest to chime in on the fallout.Photo by Melissa Tamez/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesDave Portnoy goes in on DiJonai Carrington for postgame commentStephanie White defended Carrington for her social media post but Portnoy was on the opposite side of the coin and hit out at the 28-year-old for her online response.Speaking on Wake Up Barstool, he said: “The story isn’t that she got kicked out, it’s that she’s tweeted out ‘white privilege’ because Sophie Cunningham is white so somehow that’s why she got kicked out.“I put together a little clip of DJ Carrington, who is definitely one of the dirtiest players in WNBA.“She’s taken her long nails and scratched Caitlin Clark’s eyes out. I went nuts when that happened.“She’s had multiple incidents of chasing people down when from behind. This is not a skin colour thing, this is a history of dirty plays.”Has DiJonai Carrington been suspended? So far there has been no decision on whether Carrington will face a suspension or not for both the comments and the foul.Officials initially assessed the action as a Flagrant 1 Foul, but upon reviewing the footage, they upgraded it to a Flagrant 2, resulting in her ejection.WNBA chiefs are also reviewing her social media post as per their guidelines, while Carrington has switched her account to private to take herself out of the limelight for now.

2026 NFL betting preview: 5 best bets for marquee Game of the Year matchups, including Patriots-Seahawks
The 2026-27 NFL season kicks off with a Super Bowl rematch between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, and the market kicks off the way it always does: grading teams on what they did instead of how they actually did it. Those gaps are largest in the games that fans are the most excited to watch: the Games of the Year market. So let's get into them, how we got to our number on each and where I believe the market went wrong.Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonHere are five of my favorite wagers:Week 1: New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks (-4.5, 44.5)Fans don't have to wait long for the first Game of the Year, and the market has already made up its mind on it: two elite defenses, hang a low number and move on. I understand the instinct. Seattle's defense graded No. 1 in our deserved-points model last year, giving up just 16.4 PPG a game, and New England's sat right behind it at No. 2. On paper, that's a rock fight — and the total of 44.5 prices it like one. But here's what the total is glossing over: both of these offenses are slightly under appreciated. We have Seattle at fourth in offense by the same model, scoring 27.1 expected points and New England came in at No. 8. With both teams top eight in offense, yet a total at 44.5, the defenses are getting a bit too much credit we see value on the over as we land at 47.1 projected points.Bet: Over 44.5 (-110)Week 1: Buffalo Bills (-1.5, 44.5) at Houston TexansThis is my favorite number on the board, because I think the market has this number short, even with projections that on a season-long build have the Texans better than most models are implying. Houston's offense deserved to score just 21.3 points per game, No. 18 in the league per our score-expectations metric, and the whole season was propped up by two things: a No. 3 defense and the single biggest luck number in the NFL, a +2.48 that says they won a stack of close games they had no business winning. Now line them up against Buffalo, where Josh Allen's offense graded No. 3 at 27.5 points per game — a full six points of deserved offense over Houston — and that's the crux of the whole thing: a high-powered offense against a team whose coach has made his living building incredible defensive units. It's not that Houston's defense can't find stops, it's a lack of belief that its No. 18 offense has the power to move the ball on a Bills defense. We make Buffalo the better team by 1.6. The market moved recently from Buffalo +1.5 to -1.5, but I still think the Bills money line presents good value here.Bet: Bills ML -115Week 12: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (-1.5, 49.5)Thanksgiving in Dallas, and the market's leaning into the fun. The Cowboys are at home in a coin-flip spread with a shootout expected in this high total matchup. On the surface it tracks, as Dallas's offense is expected to take large explosive opportunities and the key reason Dak Prescott is in the front running to have the most passing yards all season. The problem has time and time again been the defense, bolting on a top-five offense to the league's worst defense is exactly how you get a fun team the market loves and a bad number to bet into. Philadelphia is the opposite build. Their offense is nothing special (No. 16 in expected scoring), but the defense is the whole identity. It's not that Dallas can't score, it's that Philly is the exact roster built to make them earn every inch while they grind the clock and keep it low scoring. Our model actually has the Eagles as the better team here, not the underdog, and the total a field goal heavy. On Thanksgiving, everyone wants the track meet; I want the team that turns it into a holiday power nap.Bets: Eagles +1.5 (-110) and under 49.5 (-110)Week 12: Kansas Chiefs at Buffalo Bills (-2.5, 50.5)The game everybody circles on their calendar. Patrick Mahomes and Allen have traded haymakers for years, and the market prices it like it always ends 34-31, hanging a 50.5 total that's really just based on reputation. But last year's Chiefs weren't that team: Kansas City's offense deserved just 21.1 PPG a game (No. 20 in the league in our model). While I'd love a Mahomes bounce back as much as the next person, the identity of this team has flipped. The assumption they will just be back to their normal theatrics seems tough, with as much as Mahomes puts his body into trouble over the course of a season. The Bills will get theirs, but they’ll face a top-five Kansas City defense and pairing that with a Chiefs offense that ran that cold is not the recipe for 51 points. We land at 46.4, more than a field goal under. The names say shootout, but the numbers say grind it out and buy in early on the potential variance this Kansas City team could have with the swings of Mahomes’ potential ceiling.Bet: Under 50.5 (-110)Week 16: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks (-1.5, 45.5)A Christmas gift for the NFL fans. Seattle is the reigning champ, so of course the Seahawks home favorites laying a point and a half against the division-rival Rams. But pulling player talent and expectation we have the wrong team favored here. The Rams graded as our No. 1 offense last year (29.6 PPG) and still ran cold, a better team than its record that the market keeps underselling because it doesn't wear the crown. Seattle's No. 1 defense is real and this isn’t to discredit them at all, but we know what we are getting there and it feels baked in that is the best unit on the field; in actuality I think it's much closer than the market has projected. Getting the side we think is better, in a division game, as a Christmas underdog, is the kind of gift I wake up early for (pun intended). Bet: Rams +1.5 (-110)

Trump officials propose new scrutiny of food additives and ingredients
Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., listens during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, May 27, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin, File)2026-08-10T15:06:56Z WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. health officials on Monday proposed a rule change that would require food manufacturers to notify regulators before introducing new ingredients or additives into processed or packaged foods. The proposal would change a decades-old policy that advocates have called a regulatory loophole, blaming it for allowing thousands of unvetted ingredients into the U.S. food supply. Under the proposed rule from the Food and Drug Administration, companies would have to document and submit their safety findings for new ingredients, giving regulators the opportunity to investigate if they see a potential safety risk. Currently companies can decide for themselves if an ingredient or additive is “generally recognized as safe” and there is no requirement for companies to notify or submit evidence to the FDA, although some do. “Shifting to a mandatory notification system closes a decades-old information gap, giving the FDA the comprehensive visibility needed to enhance postmarket safety,” acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas told reporters on Monday. The FDA will take comments on the proposal for 120 days. Government scrutiny of ultraprocessed food continues, but with few detailsIn a separate move, the FDA said it completed work on the federal government’s first-ever definition of ultraprocessed food, but did not release any details or the proposed language. The agency said it has submitted the definition to the White House for further review.Health advocates consider an official definition of ultraprocessed food a key step toward bringing greater scrutiny to packaged foods that are blamed for multiple chronic health problems afflicting Americans. A government-backed definition could pave the way for more federal research and, eventually, possible labeling or other restrictions on processed foods.Neither of Monday’s announcements are likely to immediately impact American diets, which are packed with fats, sodium and sugar and are blamed for a host of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. But both initiatives are considered top priorities for Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who entered government vowing to crack down on artificial colors, additives and other ingredients. Ultraprocessed foods are made using industrial processing and additives, colors, preservatives or other ingredients not found in home kitchens. The foods include sugary cereals, sodas, chips, frozen pizzas and other grocery items. Scientists have been working to define and classify processed foods for well over a decade. But sweeping definitions come with downsides. They can be often applied to foods like whole grain bread, yogurt and granola that are all highly processed but still considered nutritious. Some recent efforts to define ultraprocessed foods include carve-outs for foods that meet nutrition standards, despite having processed ingredients. Read More FDA proposal would bring new insights on additives used by food companiesIn the U.S., an estimated 10,000 additives are allowed in food, including thickeners, preservatives and packaging ingredients.Consumer advocates have long argued that many of those ingredients have never been properly vetted because of the FDA’s policy allowing manufacturers to certify for themselves that new additives are “generally recognized as safe,” or GRAS. FDA’s Diamantas stressed Monday that the new policy would not require all new ingredients to undergo FDA review. He said that type of mandatory review would need to be enacted by Congress in order to rewrite FDA’s authority over the food supply.“What we’re doing is requiring companies that utilize the pathway to notify us of their conclusions so that we have greater visibility into those conclusions and consumers have awareness,” Diamantas said.Under the proposal, the FDA would be expected to review new ingredient submission within 180 days. If FDA regulators have safety concerns they could request additional information from manufacturers or request that they delay introducing the ingredient. A rule change in the 1990s created what advocates call a loopholeAny substance intentionally added to food is supposed to undergo formal review — unless the additive is considered safe. Since the late 1950s, the government recognized that many common ingredients in foods, such as spices and vinegar, were widely consumed and understood to be safe for consumption. The FDA policed the GRAS exemption for years, but it took time and resources. Starting in 1997, the FDA began allowing companies to independently determine that a new additive is safe based on publicly available scientific evidence and the consensus of qualified experts. However, the list of products deemed GRAS by companies grew to include many synthetic and natural additives, all incorporated into the food supply without independent review. The process has created a “secret GRAS loophole,” according to the consumer advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest, that “undermines the integrity of our food safety system.”Food industry officials contend their internal reviews of additives are as rigorous as the FDA’s own processes. ___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Department of Science Education and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Mahomes, Parsons and trio of 49ers highlight the NFL stars returning from injuries this season
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) arrives at NFL football training camp Friday, July 31, 2026, in St. Joseph, Mo. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)2026-08-10T10:00:39Z The list of players who finished the 2025 season injured was almost a who’s-who of some of the NFL’s biggest stars. There was two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, who could only watch the end of a disappointing six-win season for Kansas City after going down with a torn ACL in Week 15.Three-time All-Pro Micah Parsons was only a spectator in the postseason in his first season in Green Bay after suffering his own torn ACL in December, while the San Francisco 49ers were down three big stars of their own for the end of the playoffs with Fred Warner, Nick Bosa and George Kittle all going down with major injuries during the season.Indianapolis had its promising season derailed when quarterback Daniel Jones tore his Achilles in early December and the New York Giants missed 2024 rookie sensation Malik Nabers for most of the season after he went down with a knee injury in the fourth game of his second season. Training camp for those stars has been about getting back up to full strength so they can get back on the field either for the start of the season or at least early on.“It was always the goal to be able to practice when I got to training camp. We kind of hit that step,” Mahomes said at the start of camp. “Now, it’s about building and keep getting better and better, so when the regular season comes around, I can be available.” Most of those other stars are aiming to be back for Week 1 but Parsons will have to wait a little longer. He is hoping to return in October and vows the pent-up energy from his time away will only make him better.“People are worried about the knee. They should be worried about how I’m going to play when I get back,” Parsons said. “The anger, the frustration, the things that I’m going to have to let out because of how long it’s been since I played.”Here’s a look at some of the biggest stars returning from injuries: Read More Kansas City QB Patrick MahomesWhen Mahomes tore his ACL on Dec. 14 in a loss that eliminated the Chiefs from the playoffs, it was uncertain if he’d be able to make it back in time for Week 1. But he got back on the field for part of the offseason program and was fully cleared for the start of training camp. That was great news for the Chiefs, who managed just one touchdown in three games after Mahomes went down last season. Now the key is what form will Mahomes be in when he takes the field in Week 1 against Denver. His production has dipped in recent seasons as the talent around him has dropped off. He has also been asked to run more with a career-high 422 yards rushing last season but might need to stay in the pocket more to protect his knee.Green Bay edge rusher Micah ParsonsThe Packers traded for Parsons before the start of last season to add the defensive superstar who could elevate them in the playoffs. That never happened as Parsons suffered the knee injury in early December after recording 12 1/2 sacks in 14 games.Green Bay’s defense lacks difference-makers and will need a healthy Parsons to make a long playoff run. The team is being cautious in his return and plans to start him on the PUP list for the regular season. Parsons would have to miss at least four games but said he’d like to be back in time to face his former Cowboys teammates in Week 6. San Francisco stars Fred Warner, Nick Bosa and George KittleThe 49ers were one of the most injured teams in the league last season with Bosa going down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 3, Warner breaking his ankle in Week 6 and Kittle rupturing his Achilles in a wild-card win at Philadelphia. That trio has seven career All-Pro honors and were a major reason why San Francisco has reached two Super Bowls under coach Kyle Shanahan.Warner has been full-go since the start of camp and is ready to return for the opener. Bosa has only taken part in individual drills so far but also is expected back Week 1. Kittle remains on the physically unable to perform list and it’s uncertain whether he will return on Sept. 11 in Australia against the Rams or shortly after that. New York Giants WR Malik NabersAfter recording 1,204 yards receiving as a rookie in 2024, the Giants had big hopes last season for Nabers only to see him suffer a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. Nabers’ rehab had a few setbacks early but he was able to make it back on the field at the starting of training camp.New York is relying heavily on Nabers this season to be Jaxson Dart’s No. 1 option. “Every time he’s on the field, everybody knows where he’s at,” Dart said. “There’s an aura that he has on the field that is exhilarating. It makes me happy. It makes everybody happy just to see him out there.”Indianapolis QB Daniel JonesJones had a breakthrough campaign in his first season with the Colts, completing a career-high 68.0% of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdown passes and only eight INTs in 13 games before getting injured.Indianapolis had one of the most dynamic offenses when Jones was healthy and rewarded him with a two-year deal worth $88 million in the offseason. The Colts are hoping his return will lead to more of the same. Jones managed to make it back on the field to practice on the first day of training camp less than eight months after getting hurt.Jones has struggled to stay healthy over his career, missing time for injuries almost every season outside of 2022, when he started 16 games for the Giants. Baltimore DT Nnamdi MadubuikeMadubuike missed most of last season with a neck injury and it was uncertain until this summer if he would ever return. But he came off the PUP list early in camp and appears on track to get back on the field this season for a Ravens defense that sorely missed him in 2025.Madubuike made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and ‘24 with 19 1/2 sacks those two seasons as one of the game’s best interior pass rushers. He had two sacks in the first two games last season before getting shut down with the neck injury. Baltimore’s defense fell off last season in his absence and is looking to get back in form in the first year under new coach Jesse Minter.___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl JOSH DUBOW Dubow is an NFL writer for The Associated Press who covers the San Francisco 49ers and provides weekly analysis of NFL statistics. twitter mailto

MLB’s worst teams in 2026 are still pretty bad, but at least they are reasonably bad
Kansas City Royals' Jac Caglianone celebrates in the dugout after hitting a two-run home run during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Chicago Cubs, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, in Kansas City, Mo. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)2026-08-10T10:00:07Z The full-blown tank is no longer trending in Major League Baseball. After a handful of infamous team performances in recent seasons — like the Colorado Rockies losing 119 games last season and the Chicago White Sox dropping an MLB-record 121 games in 2024 — the worst teams have been much more competitive. In fact, there’s a decent chance that no team will lose 100 games for the first time since 2017.The worst teams are the Rockies (46-72), Los Angles Angels (45-73), Athletics (47-71) and Kansas City Royals (49-70), putting them all within reach of avoiding triple-digit losses even if they play below-average baseball. This year’s show of relative competitiveness by the league’s bottom feeders might just be a statistical outlier, though it might also be a sign that teams are viewing complete teardowns as a less compelling strategy. The Houston Astros paved the way for the all-out tank in the early 2010s when they lost at least 106 games in three straight seasons. It was a painful stretch but paid off in the coming years with World Series titles in 2017 and 2022. The problem is it doesn’t always work out as planned. The Baltimore Orioles were awful from 2018 to 2021 while they rebuilt their roster with high draft picks, but have zero playoff wins to show for it five years later. At last week’s trade deadline, they unloaded former No. 1 overall pick Adley Rutschman to the Boston Red Sox and appear headed for another rebuild. Pre-game ejectionsAtlanta Braves ace Chris Sale was ejected by umpire Dan Merzel before a pitch was thrown in Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees. The veteran lefty was still in a foul mood a day after being called for a balk that scored a run.Pregame MLB ejections are rare, but not completely unprecedented.San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin was ejected before a game against the Colorado Rockies in 2024 after he and bench coach Ryan Christensen delivered the lineup card to home plate umpire Alex MacKay. Read More Earlier this season, Brent Suter of the Los Angeles Angels and Steven Wilson and Manuel Rodriguez of the Tampa Bay Rays were ejected because of a “standoff” following the “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Umpire Lance Barrett tossed the trio after they refused to leave the field.Historically, former Baltimore Orioles manager Earl Weaver is famous for a 1975 incident when he was ejected from the first game of a doubleheader for arguing with umpire Ron Luciano. Before the second game even started, Luciaino tossed Weaver again when he continued arguing. Trivia questionToronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer moved into 10th place in career strikeouts, passing Hall of Famer Walter Johnson in the Blue Jays’ 7-5 win over Philadelphia on Saturday night. Scherzer has 3,516 strikeouts over 19 years. How many of the other top 10 can you name? NL MVP race heats upThe race for National League MVP is shaping up to be a classic.Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani and the Chicago Cubs’ uber-athletic Pete Crow-Armstrong have turned the competition into a two-man race with roughly 25% of the regular season remaining. As of Sunday, Crow-Armstrong was a slight favorite over Ohtani, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, and both teams are firmly in the playoff hunt. Crow-Armstrong is trying to earn his first MVP award while Ohtani is chasing No. 5, which would be the second-most in MLB history behind Barry Bonds, who had seven. Here’s a look at the resume of both players.— Crow-Armstrong has blossomed into a full-blown superstar for the Cubs, greatly improving his consistency at the plate. He’s slashed .286/.388/.544 through Sunday’s games and has 26 homers, 71 RBIs and 30 stolen bases, all while playing an exceptional center field. The two-time All-Star also has been worth 7.4 WAR so far this season, according to baseball-reference.com, which is the best in the big leagues.— Ohtani continues to be an offensive powerhouse, though his numbers are down from previous season. The Japanese standout is slashing .292/.395/.542 and has 26 homers and 71 RBIs. Unlike Crow-Armstrong, Ohtani usually doesn’t provide any value in the field, serving as designated hitter when he’s not pitching. But that’s the thing: When Ohtani is healthy, he is also one of MLB’s most dominant pitchers. The right-hander has an 8-2 record and 1.79 ERA over 14 starters with 95 strikeouts over 85 2/3 innings.Ohtani hasn’t pitched since July 3, mainly because of soreness in his left knee. He resumed playing catch on Saturday and is slowly working toward a return to the mound. If he can provide a few good starts in September for the Dodgers, it might tip the MVP scale back in his favor. 6 college football coaches under the most pressure entering the 2026 season
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer watches a replay during the first half of an NCAA college football game against the Coastal Carolina, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, in Columbia, S.C. (AP Photo/Scott Kinser, File)2026-08-10T10:10:06Z Patience for poor performance is a rarity in college football and that’s only become more clear in recent years. Eight power four coaches were jobless by November in 2025, and fifteen Bowl Subdivision coaches were fired throughout the season, totaling a record $270 million in buyout packages. As the 2026 season arrives, here are six coaches entering the fall under the most pressure for instant results:Mike Norvell, Florida StateFlorida State peaked too early last season with a 31-17 Week 1 upset of Alabama and two blowouts against East Texas A&M and Kent State, cruising to a 3-0 start. And then things got shaky for the Seminoles, winning just two of their final nine games. Coach Mike Norvell is just above .500 in his six years at FSU (38-34). Thirteen of those wins came during the Noles’ playoff run in 2023. Since then, FSU has landed in the win column just seven times and finished bottom five in the ACC in back-to-back years — leaving Norvell in the win now bucket. Bill Belichick, North CarolinaBill Belichick arrived at UNC as a first-time college coach who had won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, but the hyped hiring fell flat in Year 1. The Tar Heels had 70 new players while ending up with more double-digit losses (five) than total wins (four) and missing a bowl for the first time since 2018, and there were multiple helpings of unwanted off-field headlines, too. Belichick enters this year with 60 new players in another roster overhaul. The Tar Heels are picked to finish 15th in the 17-team Atlantic Coast Conference and have a tougher schedule in Year 2, including home games against Notre Dame and preseason ACC favorite Miami. Another off-field issue hit before camp: General manager Michael Lombardi is on leave as the subject of a school investigation.Belichick originally signed a five-year, $50 million contract paying him $10 million in base and supplemental pay each year, though only the first three years were guaranteed. That means the school would owe the 74-year-old Belichick roughly one year’s pay if it decided to move on after the season. Read More Shane Beamer, South CarolinaShane Beamer ’s fifth year at South Carolina didn’t quite go to plan, with the Gamecocks finishing 4-8 and 15th (1-7) in the SEC. South Carolina’s stint in the AP Top 25 was short-lived, entering the season at No. 13 in the preseason poll and falling out of the rankings entirely after a Week 3 loss to Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks lost six of their final eight games.Beamer returns with something to prove and he has quarterback LaNorris Sellers, standout edge rusher Dylan Stewart and receiver Nyck Harbor to help. Luke Fickell, WisconsinIt’s no secret Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell is back on the hot seat — he acknowledged it himself at Big Ten media days. A 4-8 record in 2025 was Wisconsin’s second straight losing season for the first time since the early 1990s. The Badgers reached lows they hadn’t seen since the 70’s this past season with shutout losses against Iowa and Ohio State in back-to-back weeks. Fickell hasn’t been able to replicate the level of success he had in Cincinnati yet, with a 17-21 record. Wisconsin opens against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Bill O’Brien, Boston CollegeAfter leading Boston College to a 7-6 record and Pinstripe Bowl appearance his first season, the Eagles regressed in 2025, finishing with a 2-10 record and ahead of only Syracuse in the ACC. Boston College’s two wins came in the first and last weeks of the season against Fordham and Syracuse, sandwiching 10 straight losses. The sharp decline after an encouraging first season has left little margin for error heading into Year 3.Mike Locksley, MarylandMaryland’s Mike Locksley remains squarely on the hot seat after nearly identical seasons in 2024 and 2025, finishing 4-8 overall and 1-8 in Big Ten play. In eight seasons, Locksley is 37-49 for the Terps and the best years in the stretch were back to back 8-5 seasons in 2022 and again in 2023, where Maryland won its third bowl game in as many years.Locksley said the tough days are behind the program at Big Ten media days, looking forward to ramping up this season with what he described as one of the most talented rosters during his time at Maryland. ___This story has been corrected to show that last season was Shane Beamer’s fifth, not first, coaching South Carolina.___AP Sports Writer Aaron Beard contributed to this report.___Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
