(AP Photo)2026-08-11T10:41:39Z BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon’s parliament Tuesday abolished the death penalty, making it the first country in the Arab world to replace the sentencing with life imprisonment with aggravated hard labor.The tiny Mediterranean country has committed to an unofficial moratorium on executions since January 2004. However, dozens of death sentences since then have been issued, but later suspended or commuted.A majority of Lebanon’s 128-member parliament voted in favor of ending the death penalty, with the exception of the parliamentary bloc of Hezbollah. Justice Minister Adel Nassar, who was in Parliament, called it a “historic step” for the country. Rights groups that have called for formalizing the moratorium or ending the death penalty altogether have also celebrated the vote.Ramzi Kaiss, Lebanon Researcher at Human Rights Watch, says Lebanon is “marking a final break from a cruel sentence that should never be imposed.” “Capital punishment is unique in its cruelty and finality and is plagued with arbitrariness, prejudice, and error,” he said.It’s unclear how aggravated hard labor would be enforced, as some legislators said the terms of the new punishment are not yet clear. Lebanon does have the punishment of hard labor written into law and court decisions, but even those have been rarely enforced in recent years due to cash-strapped Lebanon’s lack of resources and capacity within its overcrowded prisons. Lebanon’s abolition of the death penalty comes as parliament is debating a controversial general amnesty law, the largest since the end of its 15-year civil war in 1990, that could reduce sentences or even release convicted militants and drug dealers, with some exceptions. Family members of Lebanese soldiers and servicemen killed or attacked by Islamist militant groups have repeatedly protested against the law, some saying they had hoped to see the perpetrators who killed their family members executed rather than be issued reduced prison sentences. The finish saw Chelsea take the Rolling Encore – Reid and Henley’s finishing move – and while it looked fine at the time, Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Reid landed on Green’s face, breaking her orbital bone.Green confirmed the injury the next day on Instagram, saying that she “needed time to process” the injury. She was still wearing the title belt over her shoulder though, and WWE has yet to confirm whether or not Green will be required to vacate the Interim WWE Women’s Championship.An orbital bone injury can vary greatly in severity. It’s possible that Green will be able to continue wrestling in a protective mask while the injury heals in 4-8 weeks with no surgery required. UWCL DRAW: Chelsea face Spanish test in third qualifying roundChelsea will face Spanish club Real Sociedad in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League’s third qualifying round.The draw for the third qualifying round of this season’s competition took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland this morning.In total, 18 clubs entered the third qualifying round draw. The draw was split into two paths; the Champions Path (made up of eight teams) and the League Path (made up of 10 teams). Chelsea went into the draw as one of the five seeded sides in the League Path.The draw determined that Chelsea will face Spanish Liga F Moeve side Real Sociedad in the third qualifying round. The tie will be played out in the traditional knockout format over two legs. The first leg will be staged in England on 26 August 2026 while the second leg will provisionally take place in Spain on 2 September 2026. Kick-off times will be finalised and publicised within the next 36 hours.The winners of the third qualifying round ties will advance to the 18-team League Phase which was initially launched last season.Barclays Women’s Super League champions Manchester City and runners-up Arsenal will go straight into the League Phase. Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has a reputation around the league of being a football addict, dedicating his life and time to the game, and that may have gotten him caught sleeping at the facility this summer. Johnson is entering his second season as the Bears coach, looking to build off an 11-win season that led to the first playoff win in franchise history since 2010, while beginning to build what could be the making of long-term success behind a high-powered offense.In order to build off that success, Johnson has had to commit as much time as possible to the team, which got him caught by rookie tight end Sam Roush during summer workouts. In a recent interview with CHGO, Roush revealed that he caught Johnson sleeping in the facility, after noticing his head coach with bed head hair when he arrived for a workout."I was lifting at 8 am and [Ben] walks in and he’s got bed head," Roush said. "I look at him and I was like, ‘You slept in the facility last night, didn’t you?’ And he was like, ‘Don’t ask those kind of questions.’ It was the middle of June."Getting in extra work in the middle of June shows the true dedication that Johnson has to the organization and his football team, also setting a standard that he can hold the players to as well. Johnson and the success of his relationship with quarterback Caleb Williams will be key to what the Bears can do in 2026, looking to improve off a good first season last year.It's unlikely that Johnson wants his players calling him out for sleeping in the office, or wants them sleeping in the facility either. Following training camp, the Los Angeles Rams are set to take a major step in their preparations for the season, holding two joint practices and three preseason games. These will mark the first time the Rams go up against another team, providing a better evaluation of the roster.As the team transitions to their physically demanding preseason schedule, here are five lessons we learned from training camp.The defensive additions are as good as advertisedMyles Garrett was dominant throughout camp, while Trent McDuffie displayed the versatility and playmaking ability that make him one of the NFL's best. Jaylen Watson could cover every possible pass catcher the Rams put on the field. The defense dominated the latter portions of camp and the trio is a big reason why.However, the greater impact is how they have elevated the pieces already on the field. Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Kam Kinchens looked vastly improved. One would have to point to their teammates as a big factor in why.Stetson Bennett is likely QB2Sean McVay virtually confirmed Bennett's role as a backup, with Ty Simpson set to play in preseason, while Bennett's participation remains in doubt. When Jimmy Garoppolo was the Rams' backup, he didn't play in preseason, alluding to Bennett likely being Matthew Stafford's backup in 2026.That is, of course, assuming McVay follows the same formula he's had for quarterbacks during preseason. The backup will play a bunch of snaps in joint practices, while the QB3 plays preseason. On top of that, Bennett looked more consistent in camp, while Simpson is just getting his feet wet in the league.If Simpson wishes to be the backup, he will have to put on a show in practice and in the games.Don't close the door on GaroppoloBeing at camp and talking with fellow members of the media, I am not convinced that Bennett or Simpson is ready at this point to take the reins in the event Matthew Stafford gets hurt during the regular season. In that tragic scenario, the team would have to rely on its defense to grind out victories, while utilizing a quarterback who can score at least 20 points per game and limiting turnovers.It's hard to see Bennett or Simpson being that player yet. Garoppolo remains a free agent and is reportedly open to playing in 2026 if the right situation comes up. All I'm saying is that Garoppolo could get his chance soon.Josaiah Stewart is hereThe second-year man out of Michigan impressed as a rookie and took a dramatic turn in development this offseason. He looks fast, balanced and like a guy who will have four to six sacks this season. It will be exciting to see how Chris Shula utilizes Stewart, due to his ability to rush the passer and drop into coverage.He's the X-factor on this defense and could be a bigger factor as the season goes on.Nacua's going for the crownPuka Nacua is about to have a season to remember. He looks sharp, strong, and confident. His ability to make one-handed catches might be at a level the NFL has never witnessed before, and any lack of separation between him and a defender seems not to matter, as he can peel off at the last second and establish a position to make a play on the ball.Don't make any mistakes; he's going for the triple crown. Davante Adams will not get the same red zone looks he got last season, as he was too effective for the league to handle. Just pointing out personal preferences are okay and don’t need to be justified. Play in and enjoy the leagues that you like!In IDP leagues, I prefer a split between defensive tackles and defensive ends. Ideally, you should have to start one defensive tackle and two defensive ends.My 2026 IDP DL rankings diverge from the consensus more in the depths than in the shallows. Best to play it safe and stick with the names who’ve been getting it done for years at the top.The consensus and my own IDP DL rankings align closely at the top. Myles Garrett, Aidan Hutchinson and the other elite pass rushers sit in similar spots on both. However, I have Garrett in his own first tier. I think he’s earned it, even on a new team. Hopefully, he’ll soon be joined by future Hall of Famer and the greatest defensive tackle of all time (it’s not close), Aaron Donald.The gaps in my DL rankings show up in the later rounds, where offseason moves and injuries changed how I read five players. Three of them fall inside my top 36, so they carry real weight for draft-day decisions assuming you’re in a deeper league. The reason is availability. Parsons tore his left ACL and meniscus in December against Denver and had surgery later that month. He is on the physically unable to perform list to open 2026 and has targeted a mid-October return, which means he could miss the first four to six games. Before the injury, he had 12.5 sacks in 13 games for Green Bay. The talent is not in question at all. But, I’d just as easily not draft him at all because of all the games he will miss.DeForest Buckner, DT, Indianapolis ColtsIndianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (99) excelled in an injury-shortened 2025 and gets a bump in my IDP DL rankings.DeForest Buckner has been a reliable staple in DL rankings. I’ve slotted him up five spots from 22 into Tier 3 at 17, ahead of several edge rushers the consensus prefers. Interior linemen who pile up tackles hold extra value in IDP formats because they deliver steadier, more reliable production. Buckner does that when healthy. He posted 47 tackles and four sacks in just 10 games last season before a neck injury ended his year, a pace near 75 tackles across a full schedule. He had surgery on a herniated disc in December and has been cleared to return to his starting job in Indianapolis for his age-32 season.Josh Sweat, LB/DE, Arizona CardinalsArizona Cardinals linebacker Josh Sweat (10) against the Atlanta Falcons at State Farm Stadium. He set a career high with 12 sacks in his first year with Arizona and added 30 tackles, four forced fumbles and 13 tackles for loss across all 17 games. He reunited with head coach Jonathan Gannon and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who coached him during his 2021 Pro Bowl season with the Philadelphia Eagles. As Arizona’s top edge rusher, he draws the primary pass-rush role, which supports the higher placement.Jonathan Greenard, LB/DE, Philadelphia EaglesMinnesota Vikings linebackers Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard and Dallas Turner talk during NFL offseason minicamp | Matt Krohn-Imagn ImagesGreenard moves up to 30 on my board, into Tier 4. Philadelphia acquired him from Minnesota during the 2026 draft and signed him to a four-year, $100 million extension. He steps in as the Eagles’ top edge rusher after they lost Jaelan Phillips in free agency. A shoulder injury that required surgery limited him to three sacks in 12 games last season, but his 13.5 percent pressure rate ranked seventh in the NFL, and he posted 12 sacks the year before. His counting production has stayed low for a first-round talent, but that’s also the nature of being a defensive tackle. Most of his impact is felt in pressure and absorbing blockers. He recorded 33 tackles and three sacks in a season shortened by a Week 1 ejection and later absences, after 42 tackles and 4.5 sacks the year before. His run-defense grade ranked near the bottom of qualified interior linemen last season.
