Tyron Woodley still sees MMA in his near future.The former UFC welterweight champion hasn't competed in MMA since suffering his fourth-straight loss to Vicente Luque in March 2021. He has since boxed three times and has two wrestling matches booked for RAF.As for MMA, Woodley (19-7-1) is open to a return as soon as this year."I never retired (from MMA)," Woodley told MMA Junkie Radio. "People just said I retired. You never heard me formally come out and retire, or put my gloves down anywhere, or even say the word retirement. Because I haven't fought MMA since 2021, a lot of people call me retired. In this sport, if you don't refute it, and you don't go back and defend it, or you correct people, then people run with it. So I found out a long time ago that everybody knows everything, just let them know it. So I never retired from MMA. I never closed that chapter. It's actually quite the opposite. You may even see me fight MMA this year. You may see me wrestle twice, fight MMA and box. I feel like I'm getting to the part where my body being used as a way to generate wealth is coming to an end. I'm getting closer and closer and closer to that moment."I feel like the more I can stay in shape, the more I can just keep training, the better I'm going to be. We all know me with consistency. When I had that title run, I fought four world title fights in one year. I feel like knowing yourself is the most important part. I know when I've got something ahead of me, I've got a date, I've got an opportunity, I know that my body is going to be disciplined, it's going to be more focused, less distractions are going to come in. It's just something about being in a camp. That daily regimen is just a discipline I need in life. So I'm just staying in camp, whatever that is, whatever combat it is. We may wrestle two or three times a day, four times a weekend, five times a weekend if you go to the constellation, and we wrestle every single week. This is normal. So fans are overlooking Buckley because he doesn't have the credentials as Chimaev, and also the big match in Russia. Going to Russia to wrestle Chimaev is going to get more headlines. But I feel like the style of wrestling is going to be strong, aggressive, pressure, so I'm kind of getting ready for a similar genre of wrestling. But Khamzat is just a little bit more skilled."And Joaquin Buckley, I feel like I'm going to be wrestling somebody with a little chip on his shoulder. He always was in the gym, my gym in St. Louis, and he wanted to spar with me and jump in on the goals. But at that time, I was just going against 'Wonderboy' (Stephen Thompson) and Darren Till and Robbie Lawler. Those are very, very specific opponents, and I brought in very specific training partners. So when he used to want to spar and jump in there and get a go with me, I had to respectfully decline. And I feel like his intention to spar me wasn't to help me out and give me a push so I can win. It was to measure himself in how he stacked up against me, and I feel like he probably felt a little bit moded – not brushed off, but this is his chance to compete against me. So you've got to actually account that into a game plan. Don't take him lightly, don't look at his resume and see what he hasn't done. Like when somebody wants to get one off on you, they're going to come with a little extra fire, and I feel like that's what it is. 2026-08-21T22:20:49Z One of China’s best-known comedians is under investigation and several of his shows have been canceled after he changed the lyrics of a revolutionary song during a performance.Guo Degang, the country’s most prominent performer of traditional xiangsheng, a form of Chinese comedic dialogue, is under investigation by local authorities in the city of Wuhan in central China, local media reported. Guo’s show on Friday in the northwestern city of Xi’an was canceled due to “venue issues,” a statement on ticketing platform Damai released by his promotion company showed. The company offered refunds for tickets as well as travel and hotel expenses. The exhibition center hosting the performance in Xi’an, which also cited “venue issues” on Wednesday, said the show had been “postponed,” without giving a new date.Local media reports said several of Guo’s shows scheduled in August across cities were canceled. The investigation highlights China’s stricter controls and censorship of the entertainment and arts industries, where performers and artists have to navigate an environment where “red lines” are often unclear and shifting.Guo was reported to Wuhan’s culture and tourism authorities after he changed a lyric from “it is quiet along Weishan Lake” to “it is quiet in the Forbidden City” while performing at a show in the city last month, according to local media reports and videos shown on social media platforms. The Baltimore Ravens say they are “aware” of three charges, including a charge of family violence, against wide receiver Rashod Bateman, according to a statement shared with multiple outlets. The charges, which were uncovered by multiple outlets on Friday, date back to an incident in early June.Georgia court records obtained by multiple outlets indicate that Bateman is facing three charges: a battery-family violence misdemeanor (his first offense), a count of reckless conduct and first degree criminal damage to property. All three charges list June 3 as the date of the offense.Per the statement from a Ravens’ spokesperson, the team has spoken to Bateman and the league to address the issue."We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him. We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment,” the spokesperson said in the statement.Bateman allegedly smashed the window of a car belonging to the mother of his child, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, which was first to report the charges. Daniel Palencia had a good year as Cubs closer in 2025 despite some injury issues. He had more time on the IL this year, first with an oblique strain and then a flexor injury.Today, the Cubs activated Palencia from the injured list after five rehab outings, the last two of which were pretty good. He is not expected to immediately return to the closer role, instead serving as what manager Craig Counsell calls an “out-getter” in whatever situation he’s needed. Overall this year in 19 MLB games, Palencia has a 2.70 ERA, 1.380 WHIP, three saves and 19 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.To make room for Palencia on the 26-man active roster, right-hander Javier Assad has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. I don’t need to explain to you how this makes most Cubs fans feel. The only thing I can say is that Assad is likely back on Sept. 1 when rosters expand.In addition, the Cubs added infielder Gabriel Arias, acquired Wednesday on waivers from the Mets, to the 26-man active roster. To make room for Arias, infielder Owen Miller was designated for assignment. New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn's job security might rest on whether Geno Smith can have a big rebound this season. Smith got just one drive in Friday's preseason game against the Steelers, but Glenn was obviously happy with what he saw. Because Smith's night was done after a perfect drive. Smith, who didn't play in the preseason opener, looked good against a Steelers defense using a lot of starters. He hit Adonai Mitchell twice for 29 yards. He hit No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson on a 10-yard catch. He found tight end Jelani Woods wide open for a 13-yard touchdown. Smith was 7 of 7 for 65 yards and a touchdown on the first drive. The Jets have some talent on offense. Breece Hall is a good running back, Wilson is a talented receiver who desperately needs to team up with a good quarterback, the offensive line and tight ends have highly drafted and talented players. It has been a while since the Jets have had a good offense, but there are interesting pieces. However, they need Smith to play well to see any results. He made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023. He wasn't as good in 2024 as his interceptions spiked to 15, and then he was traded to the Raiders. It's unlikely any quarterback could have had success with the 2025 Raiders, and Smith's play plummeted. While it's reasonable to believe that Smith, who will turn 36 years old this season, simply hit the age cliff, it's also possible that he can reclaim some of that form from his first two seasons in Seattle. If he plays at that level, the Jets' offense should be much better than expected. The problem for the Jets is that if Smith is good and they win too many games, it could screw up their opportunity for a top quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft. But that's a problem for another day, and one that Glenn in particular isn't worried about. If the Jets get a top three draft pick, he probably won't be around to coach that new quarterback anyway. This is Smith's second tour with the Jets. He was their second-round pick back in 2013, and had to wait a long time until he had a successful run as an NFL starter in Seattle. There's no guarantee that the Jets offense will be good in the regular season just because they had one impressive drive in preseason. But it's a start.

Rafael Devers returned to Fenway Park on Friday for the first time since the Boston Red Sox traded him to the San Francisco Giants in June 2025. Since Devers’ relationship with the Red Sox, particularly with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, didn’t end particularly well, it could be reasonably assumed that fans might not greet the three-time All-Star warmly. But he received a mixed reaction from the Fenway crowd with boos largely overpowering cheers during pregame introductions and when he took his first at-bat. But with Bregman being a far superior defensive player, Devers eventually ceded and played at DH. However, the possibility of switching positions came up again when first baseman Triston Casas ruptured his patellar tendon and the Red Sox needed someone to replace him at the position. Devers seemed a natural fit as a defensively challenged slugger. But he balked at being asked again to play another position during the season.Pushing the issue further, Devers criticized the Red Sox front office for not doing their jobs in trying to find a first baseman and not being truthful with him about being a DH, then asking him to play first base. "I don't understand some of the decisions that the GM makes,” Devers told reporters, including MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “Next thing you know, someone in the outfield gets hurt, and they want me to play in the outfield. I think I know the kind of player I am. And yeah, that's just where I stand."Just over a month later, Devers was traded to the Giants, who took on the remaining eight years and $254.5 million on the 10-year deal he signed with Boston before the 2023 season. Soon thereafter, he agreed to play first base for the Giants, adding to the notion that his issue was with Breslow and the Red Sox front office. HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — Near the foyer of the new joint training facility for the WNBA's Portland Fire and the NWSL's Portland Thorns is an expansive set of lighted shelves enclosed by glass. It's the trophy case, “soon to be filled,” said Lisa Bhathal Merage, who owns both teams with her brother Alex Bhathal. The $150 million performance center is the first purpose-built for a pair of professional women’s teams in different sports. The official ribbon-cutting is Saturday, but the teams got a look at the luxe facility earlier in the week. The 12-acre campus includes two full-sized outdoor soccer fields and a 17,000-square-foot gymnasium that houses a pair of basketball courts, along with a weight room, locker rooms for both teams and conference rooms. But the details make the facility unique. There are two nursing and changing rooms for players who are parents, and even a nursery fully stocked with toys and stuffed animals. A meditation and massage area is dimly lit, with a ceiling painted to look like the forest. There's a Pilates and yoga studio. There's even an underwater treadmill for recovery.A pair of paintings hung in the entry way are by a local artist, and Bhathal Merage said the plan is to rotate pieces as a showcase for local artisans. “I was there Monday morning early when the players came in for the first time, and cut the ribbon on the locker room and just felt this beautiful space that had been created for them, and it’s great,” Fire President Clare Hamill said Friday. The Fire and the Thorns are owned and operated by Raj Sports, led by Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal. They repurposed a former Nike office complex for the facility.During a tour of the building, Bhathal Merage said the idea was to create a spa-like atmosphere. The Professional Women’s Hockey League has found themselves asking where’s Walter — the Walter Cup, that is. On Friday, the league told The Associated Press on Friday that the trophy has gone missing while in transit.Though the league did not provide details, the PWHL told the AP in a statement that the trophy “did not arrive as expected at its latest stop” and that they “are working closely with the shipping company to locate it.”The trophy itself was technically a close replica version of the Walter Cup, which belongs to the Montreal Victoire after the team won the PWHL championship in May. The main Cup, which is presented to teams after winning the final, is permanently held in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto; winning teams are then given replicas to keep.The Cup was supposed to end up in Lethbridge, Alberta to the home of Victoire forward Dara Greig, per the AP. Greig had planned to spend Thursday with the trophy, including a public event at the Lethbridge Arena.However, though the container arrived in Alberta, the trophy was not inside. It is unclear where the Cup might have ended up, or how it was misplaced.The 35-pound sterling silver trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., was named after PWHL owner Mark Walter. Okada threw Horton to the ground, and into the mass of about three-dozen defensive players.With the players’ and coaches’ significant others and kids watching from across the way, a giant pile of defensive players went at the fallen Horton. He was almost the lone offensive player on the sideline opposite his offensive teammates. When an offensive lineman ran over from the middle of the field to try to assist Horton, linebacker Derick Hall stood in front of him and stopped him.With Horton currently unavailable and Jake Bobo likely out for the season after his knee injury in the Titans scrimmage, Seattle’s wide receiver depth is stretched a bit at the midway point of preseason. It appears the 2026-27 Ohio State basketball roster is still morphing. Lee Aaliya, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward from Argentina, will bring professional experience to head coach Jake Diebler's roster. The 21-year-old has played overseas for the last five years, most recently for UCAM Murcia in Spain's Liga ACB, which is considered one of the top leagues internationally."Lee is an energetic big who I am excited to have join our Buckeye family," Diebler said in a release. "His experience, athleticism, and physicality make him a valuable addition to our program."Aaliya averaged 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds while shooting nearly 60% from the field for UCAM Murcia's top team this past season. He helped Atenas de Cordoba reach the Final Four of the South American Basketball Champions League the year prior. Aaliya's eligibility remains up in the air with the NCAA. Under the Bureau of Reclamation’s plan, California, Nevada and Arizona will collectively reduce water use by 1.25 million acre-feet (about 1.54 billion cubic meters) annually during that period, with the possibility of larger cuts depending on conditions. Arizona will see the biggest cuts, while states upstream — Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico — do not face any for now. Meanwhile neighboring Mexico will reduce its intake by 250,000 acre-feet (about 310 million cubic meters) under a U.S.-Mexico treaty. “We’ve been in this 26-year prolonged drought period,” said Andrea Travnicek, the Interior Department’s assistant secretary for water and science. “We continue to see a prolonged drought in our future. So continuing to work together as a whole within the basin is going to be extremely important.” The current rules governing the use of the river’s water are set to expire in October, and the seven states have been unable to reach a consensus on sharing it over the long term. Last winter saw the worst snowpack on record for the Colorado River Basin, adding more stress on farmers, industry, wildlife and hydropower producers, as well as tens of millions of people who rely on the waterway, including in dozens of Native American tribes and in two Mexican states. Years of overuse combined with drought and rising temperatures due to climate change have depleted the country’s two largest reservoirs, which are both fed by the Colorado. Lake Mead recently plummeted to its lowest level since it began filling nine decades ago, and Lake Powell did the same about a week later.
