Packers stock watch: Who improved roster chances vs. Broncos?
The Green Bay Packers left Denver on Friday night with a 33-13 win over the Broncos in the second week of the 2026 preseason. Three different quarterbacks led touchdown drives, while rookie kicker Trey Smack hit all seven of his kicks, accounting for 15 of the team's 33 points. More importantly, a bunch of players competing for roster spots impressed against the Broncos. So, who improved their chances of making the Packers' roster in Denver? A stock watch coming out of Friday night's win:CB Kamal HaddenSay hello to your new backup slot defender behind Javon Bullard. Hadden, who played in his first game since suffering a gruesome ankle injury in late December of last year, made five tackles, including three notable open-field stops and two tackles for loss. Defending the run from the slot is a priority, and Hadden had one play where he diagnosed the run, shot the gap and made the play in the backfield. There were no obvious lapses in coverage, either. Hadden's stock is way up after a terrific week overall.RB Pierre Strong Jr. The top three running backs all look like roster locks, but it's possible Strong has made a compelling enough case for the Packers to keep four at the position. On Friday night, Strong turned eight rushes into a team-high 37 rushing yards while creating a 12-yard run and forcing several missed tackles. He also produced a highlight special teams play on a nifty kickoff return gaining 68 yards. Strong looks like a natural runner, with wiggle, burst and vision. While more likely a priority practice squad player at this point, Strong greatly improved his stock in Denver with an impressive all-around performance. QB Kyle McCordIs there any competition for QB2? McCord played well again on Friday night, while Tyrod Taylor has only been so-so as the true backup behind Jordan Love. McCord completed 12 of 19 passes and led the Packers to 13 points over four drives, including another two-minute drive resulting in points before the half. His completion percentage would have been higher had the Packers backups not dropped a pass or two. Cutting capable quarterbacks is always tough, and McCord is looking more and more capable as the preseason continues on. S Mark PerryWhile not a given, the Packers typically keep five safeties on the 53-man roster, and Perry is making a real run at securing the final spot. He created the defense's highlight play on Friday night when he read a throw up the seam and picked off Jarrett Stidham late in the first half, helping set up a field goal. Perry has strung together a pair of solid performances to start the preseason. Is it enough to win a roster spot?DL Anthony CampbellThe big man is in a deep position battle, but he keeps making standout plays. Campbell produced a sack and several other pressures while playing solid run defense inside on Friday night against the Broncos backups. Get this: According to PFF, Campbell produced only three total pressures during his final two collegiate seasons at Miami. He almost certainly produced at least three pressures in Denver on Friday night. He's not only a good story but an ascending young player. DL Jonathan FordHe was a starter along the defensive line, and while he produced a few dominant run defense reps in Pittsburgh, Ford's best plays in Denver were rushing the passer. He had a pressure on the Broncos' opening series and finished with at least three individual pressures. No one played more true nose tackle snaps in Denver than Ford, who looks like a preferred option there while Devonte Wyatt and Javon Hargrave are out. LS Cal AdomitisMatt Orzech remains on the PUP list with a calf injury, and rookie kicker Trey Smack is in a groove through two preseason games. Are the Packers really interested in making a switch at long snapper and messing with the kicking operation at this point? Adomitis is a veteran who has snapped in regular season games, so this isn't a gamble on a young player. When push comes to shove, the Packers might have to go with the guy who has been snapping most of training camp. We'll see. WR Will Sheppard had a nice night in Denver, catching six passes, including a highlight touchdown, but he's buried at a deep position. It's going to be hard to crack the top 7-8 at receiver, but Sheppard remains an excellent practice squad option. This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers stock watch: Who improved roster chances vs. Broncos?

He missed the ball, which struck his thigh pad before rebounding onto the stumps.Labuschagne's place in Australia's Test side was already under pressure heading into the series and he continued to hold on to his spot due to his reputation as one of the most dependable members of the batting lineup. Before the end of the 2023 Ashes, Labuschagne had played 43 Tests, scoring 3,789 runs at an impressive average of 53.36, including 11 centuries. Since the 2023 Ashes, however, Labuschagne has scored just 937 runs in 22 Tests at an average of 26.02, without registering a century.PeriodTestsRunsAverage100sThrough 2023 Ashes433,78953.3611After 2023 Ashes2293726.020And patience may have run out with Labuschagne failing to match the standards he set early in his Test career. Ponting, speaking on Channel 7, said he would have made the change before the Bangladesh series. The legendary captain and now commentator believes the time has now come for Australia to look at somebody else before the upcoming Test series against South Africa in October."I very much think it’s time to have a look at somebody else," Ponting said."I admire that they tried to get him and get him back to his best but it’s been way too long now," he also added.Ponting acknowledged that there is no batter currently “belting the door down” with huge numbers in Sheffield Shield cricket, but argued that Australia cannot continue waiting indefinitely for Labuschagne to return to his best.MORE:'Pick a No. 3 who can bat': Fans demand Marnus Labuschagne's axing after latest Test failure against BangladeshRicky Ponting explains why Labuschagne is struggling and reason to drop himThe Australia great believes there is a technical issue in Labuschagne's current game, particularly when it comes to scoring from the back foot."The worry that I had with him, I think there’s some technical deficiency there but he’s making the margin for error for the bowlers too great," Ponting said."With the length, he can’t score off the back foot. If you can’t score off the back foot in Test cricket then batting becomes a hard game," he added.Ponting believes this has allowed opposition bowlers to attack Labuschagne in a much wider range of areas without facing the same punishment they once did.Ricky Ponting talks about Marnus Labuschagne, why he'd make a change, and the specific changes he'd like to see.Three minutes well worth your time... pic.twitter.com/I6XPOpc9Us— 7Cricket (@7Cricket) August 22, 2026He pointed to the difference between Labuschagne's current batting and the period when he was at his best, noting that the Australian was previously able to score from both the front and back foot."I think the bowlers now know that they can run in a bowl anywhere from almost 10 metres to about four metres on off stump and out as wide as they want and he can’t hurt them," Ponting said.Ponting believes his current inability to do the same has fundamentally changed how bowlers approach him. Moreover, Labuschagne has not scored a century in Tests for over two years.MORE:'Australia have flexed their muscles': Cricket world reacts as Mitchell Starc demolishes Bangladesh after 1st Test shockPlayers who could replace Labuschagne and why Australia need to make the changePonting specifically highlighted Campbell Kellaway and Ollie Peake, while also suggesting that Nathan McSweeney deserves another opportunity in the Australian Test team."There has to be one, two, three, four guys out there that when you watch them bat, they just make batting look that little bit easier than the others," Ponting said.Ponting is not advocating dropping Labuschagne or selecting new players as a reactionary call. Instead, he is looking at the bigger picture with a number of senior players in the team who could retire in the coming years."By trying these guys, I don’t see what we’re losing. That’s what I’m looking at. We’re not losing anything," he said.He believes Australia should begin preparing for that transition rather than waiting until several senior players depart at once. Ponting, Australian selectors and the fans have been patient with Labuschagne for far too long and despite the potential, a tough call has to be made, which means beginning the search for a new No. 3 batter. For all the latest cricket news, opinion, and commentary and to share your voice, head to our Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) pages

Girls without any chance at double winners
Girls without any chance at double winnersClear defeat in Vienna FK Austria Vienna 7-0 FC Red Bull Salzburg (H/T:5-0). Goals: Cordes (7., 56.), Pfanner (21., 38.), Schöffel (30.), Uka (41.), Pötzl (90.)After two draws in the championship group in the spring, there was no chance today in the clash against Austria's strongest team. Our team suffered a 0-7 defeat.Match summaryThings went in the wrong direction from the start. As early as the second minute, Uka appeared on the left side of our goal, but the top team in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga failed to capitalise on this good opportunity. They made no mistake with the next chance, however: Cordes inherited the ball after a Pfattner corner, and all attempts to clear it were too late – the ball was already over the line (7'). Then Schöffel burst through with energy, and Pfanner had no trouble converting the pass in the middle (21').Things then got worse: a throw-in near the halfway line wasn't quick enough for the referee. Austria were allowed the throw-in instead, and Schöffel ended up scoring (30'). Pfanner, after a dribble by Uka (38'), and Uka, this time herself (41'), added to the score before half-time.In the second half, our team appeared more settled and created chances through Lena Triendl and then Emelie Kobler. Although Cordes added to the rout, firing an unstoppable shot into the right corner of the net from the penalty spot (56'), our Salzburg team managed largely to contain the purple-clad attacking force. However, they weren't entirely successful in doing so. Pötzl skillfully controlled a long pass, and the substitute remained composed in a one-on-one (90'). So, at the end of the day, a sobering 0-7 scoreline was all we had to show for our efforts.ViewsThey demonstrated how they have got to their position in the league and also in Europe. It was an unpleasant experience, but one that is part of the process. Of course, things don't get any easier when you start as we did. You can easily get crushed – and that's exactly what happened to us. We will take this painful experience with us and use it for the future to improve, to train even harder, and to come back stronger!Dusan PavlovicLine-ups & substitutionsFK Austria Vienna: Pal – Weiss, Wenninger ©, Kirchberger – Schöffel (46. Mitchell Starc scripts history vs Bangladesh, breaks James Anderson's unique first over record
Australia responded to their nine-wicket defeat in the first Test at Darwin by bowling Bangladesh out for 64 on the opening day of the second and final Test in Mackay on Saturday. After winning the toss, Australia captain Pat Cummins chose to field and Mitchell Starc made an impact with the first ball. He dismissed Shadman Islam for a duck, registering his ninth first-over wicket in Test cricket and moving past England's James Anderson, who had eight such dismissals.Starc then continued his spell, taking five wickets inside the first seven overs as Bangladesh slumped to 12/5. It was the sixth-fastest five-wicket haul in Test cricket.. Starc took five wickets in the first 45 minutes as the visitors slipped to 12/5 before reaching lunch at 35/6.Cummins added three wickets for 25 runs as Bangladesh slipped further to 39/9. The visitors, however, managed to avoid their lowest-ever Test total. Their lowest score remains 43 against West Indies in 2018.Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 64, with Starc finishing with 6/12 from 10 overs. The spell also took Starc past South African great Dale Steyn's 439 Test wickets. With 441 wickets, Starc is now the 10th-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. He has taken 19 five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket match hauls, with best figures of 7/58.For Bangladesh, the collapse came after Australia had been beaten by nine wickets in Darwin in the opening Test. The second Test therefore began with Australia in control and Bangladesh under pressure with the bat.
