The anti-trans movement is sadly going to outlive Trumps presidency
Its easy to feel like Trump and the anti-trans movement are one and the same. Hes certainly pushed forward plenty of anti-trans talking points through his campaign ads, executive orders, stacking of the Supreme Court, and pressure on legislatures. But while hes certainly become a figurehead for the movement in some ways, it seems its not something he truly cares about on its own merits. And when hes gone, the anti-trans movement will still remain, and they wont be as powerless without him as we might hope: Other countries are already showing us how this might play out. Related National security expert says second Lavender Scare is here as govt purges LGBTQ+ workers The anti-trans movement rose alongside Trump, and he certainly used it to his own ends: He has used it as a distraction from other issues and to drive his cult. He has done massive damage using it, but he never created or defined the anti-trans movement. Anti-trans bills started being proposed in legislatures in 2015, with just 19 bills the year before Trump won his first election, to 1,012 bills this year. When Trump leaves office a third term isnt truly likely, and his health might not see him to the end of his current term some of the anti-trans measures will likely fall away. When Biden took office, he reversed Trumps first trans military ban, and that will likely be the fate of the current ban under the next Democratic president. Other things, especially those based on Supreme Court rulings, will likely take longer to shift. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today But expecting all of that to happen overnight, or without a fight, would be to ignore the true nature of Trumps anti-trans agenda. Its not something hes pushing because he has any genuine feelings about girls sports, but because he is enabling those who stand behind or around him to move their own needles.Weve seen his willingness to follow the lead of someone like Russ Vought, one of the authors of Project 2025, when it comes to massive government budget matters. Alliance Defending Freedom and the Heritage Foundation have been behind a huge number of anti-trans bills, messaging, and the general rhetoric that has done so much harm to our community. The organizations and individuals who are behind these bills are true believers in their cause that is, its not 100% political strategy. And while Trump leaving will be a challenge for them, they wont be going anywhere. For an idea of just how much of this anti-trans hate is going to stick around not just in impotent rage but in very real harm we can look overseas, especially to Britain. One of the United Kingdoms leading exports to the United States over the past few years has been its transphobia. (Maybe Trump could put a tariff on it, then people might stop buying it?) The UKs anti-trans wave ranges from J.K. Rowlings hate and popularizing hiding anti-trans attacks under the guise of defending women and lesbians, to the now-infamous Cass Review, which as been used as the basis for gender-affirming care bans in the U.S. and was mimicked by the Health and Human Services report in May, which cited Cass 149 times. The UKs Conservative Party was in power from 2010 to 2024. Like Trump, they presided over the rise of anti-trans rhetoric, and were campaigning on excluding trans people from public life in the election they eventually lost. It was under their government that the Cass Review was commissioned. The new Labour government, which has more recently taken power, has been weak on supporting the trans community, but has also been less obviously anti-trans. Despite that, there has been massive damage to the community during the conservatives relatively short tenure. The UK Supreme Court ruled that the countrys 2010 Equality Act was based on biological sex, and that public womens spaces and political quotas for women were not for trans women. The UKs Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) then put out guidance suggesting the exclusion of trans people from single-gender spaces. A leaked proposed update to that guidance wouldve advised business owners to ban people from single-sex spaces based on appearance. This week, both the Girl Guides (the British version of Girl Scouts) and the Womens Institute (a womens organization that has allowed trans women for over 40 years) have now banned trans women and girls from membership. While both groups have indicated they regret having to make the decision, they have said it is necessary to comply with EHRC and avoid legal battles. It was revealed in November that the Guides have been facing legal action from a parent over their inclusion of trans girls. The parents lawyer said Girlguiding cannot simultaneously rely on an exemption that allows it to provide a female-only association and charity under the Equality Act, while redefining girl and woman to include biological males. This is legally and linguistically incoherent. It is unlawful and should be immediately withdrawn. But while all of this has taken place under the Labour government, it wasnt because they were pushing for it. The case that went to the Supreme Court was made by For Women Scotland, and it received over a third of its legal funding from the noted transphobe JK Rowling. Similarly, the lawsuit against the Girl Guides is reportedly supported by Maya Forstater, an ally of Rowling who went to court claiming that her gender critical beliefs were a protected class that she couldnt be fired over. The UKs anti-trans movement isnt driven by politics, the leading party, or the prime minister. Its driven by money and hate. The UK hasnt been saved by having a politician who doesnt hate, but it might be doomed by a party that wont push to institute protections for the trans community. For trans people to survive in the United States, we dont just need to be rid of Donald Trump: He wont take the anti-trans movement away with him when he departs. We need to be rid of the middle ground politicians who want to sit on the fence while trans lives are in jeopardy. We need leaders who will establish strong, real protections in the law. That doesnt seem likely under our current political system and with Democrats who want to waiver on trans sports issues because they worry it will alienate hard right voters. We need to see a wider cultural shift to understand and accept trans people, which will require greater representation in media, politics, and the world at large.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Bullets in Luigi Mangiones bag convinced police that he was UnitedHealthcare CEO killing suspect
Luigi Mangione appears in Manhattan Criminal Court, Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, in New York. (Sarah Yenesel/Pool Photo via AP)2025-12-08T18:27:13Z NEW YORK (AP) Moments after Luigi Mangione was put in handcuffs at a Pennsylvania McDonalds, a police officer searching his backpack found a loaded gun magazine wrapped in a pair of underwear. The discovery, recounted in court Monday as Mangione fights to exclude evidence from his New York murder case, convinced police in Altoona, Pennsylvania, that he was the man wanted for killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan five days earlier. Its him, dude. Its him, 100%, an officer was heard saying on body-worn camera video from Mangiones Dec. 9, 2024 arrest, punctuating the remark with expletives as the officer combing the bag, Christy Wasser, held up the magazine.Wasser, a 19-year Altoona police veteran, testified on the fourth day of a pretrial hearing as Mangione seeks to bar prosecutors from using the magazine and other evidence against him, including a 9 mm handgun and a notebook that were found during a subsequent search of the bag. Mangione, 27, has pleaded not guilty to state and federal murder charges. He appeared in good health on Monday, intently watching the video and occasionally jotting notes. The hearing, which began Dec. 1 and was postponed Friday because of his apparent illness, applies only to the state case. His lawyers are making a similar push to exclude the evidence from his federal case, where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Prosecutors have said the handgun found in the backpack matches the firearm used in the killing and that writings in the notebook showed Mangiones disdain for health insurers and ideas about killing a CEO at an investor conference. Stay up to date with the news and the best of AP by following our WhatsApp channel. Follow on Mangiones lawyers contend the items should be excluded because police didnt have a search warrant for the backpack. Prosecutors contend the search was legal and that officers eventually obtained a warrant. Wasser, testifying in full uniform, said she was following Altoona police protocols that require promptly searching a suspects property at the time of an arrest, in part to check for potentially dangerous items. She was heard on body-worn camera footage played in court that she wanted to check the bag for bombs before removing it from the McDonalds. Wasser told another officer she didnt want to repeat an incident in which another Altoona officer had inadvertently brought a bomb to the police station.Thompson, 50, was killed as he walked to a Manhattan hotel for his companys investor conference on Dec. 4, 2024. Surveillance video showed a masked gunman shooting him from behind. Police say delay, deny and depose were written on the ammunition, mimicking a phrase used to describe how insurers avoid paying claims.Mangione was arrested in Altoona, about 230 miles (about 370 kilometers) west of Manhattan, after police there received a 911 call about a McDonalds customer who appeared to resemble the suspect.Wasser said that prior to responding to the McDonalds she had seen some coverage of Thompsons killing on Fox News, including the surveillance video of the shooting and images of the suspected shooter. Wasser began searching his bag as officers took him into custody on initial charges of forgery and false identification, after he acknowledged giving them a bogus driving license, police said. The same fake name was used by the alleged gunman used at a Manhattan hostel days before the shooting.By then, a handcuffed Mangione had been informed of his right to remain silent and invoked it when asked if there was anything in the bag that officers should be concerned about.According to body-worn camera video, the first few items Wasser found were innocuous: a hoagie, a loaf of bread and a smaller bag containing a passport, cellphone and computer chip. Then she pulled out the underwear, unwrapping the gray pair to reveal the magazine.Satisfied there was no bomb, she suspended her search and placed some of the items back in the bag. She resumed her search at the police station, almost immediately finding the gun and silencer. Later, while cataloging everything in the bag in whats known as an inventory search, she found the notebook. A Blair County, Pennsylvania, prosecutor testified that a judge later signed off on a search warrant for the bag, a few hours after the searches were completed. The warrant, she said, provided a legal mechanism for Altoona police to turn the evidence over to New York City detectives investigating Thompsons killing. As he has through the case, Assistant District Attorney Joel Seidemann described Thompsons killing as an execution and referred to his notebook as a manifesto terms that Mangiones lawyers said were prejudicial and inappropriate.Judge Gregory Carro said the wording had no bearing on him, but warned Seidemann that hes certainly not going to do that at trial when jurors are present. Arizona takes No. 1 in AP Top 25 mens basketball poll, Iowa State up to No. 4, Gonzaga into top 10
Arizona guard Brayden Burries (5) reacts after scoring against Auburn during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, in Tucson, Ariz. (AP Photo/Rick Scuteri)2025-12-08T18:02:42Z Arizona took over the top spot in the AP Top 25 mens college basketball poll on Monday, a reward for a perfect start to the season that includes a quartet of wins against ranked foes, including a lopsided victory over Auburn last weekend.Purdue, which had spent the past three weeks at No. 1, slid to sixth following its 81-58 home loss to Iowa State and the entire poll got a shakeup as only two teams remained in the same spots from last week. The Wildcats received 33 of 60 first-place votes from a national media panel to claim No. 1 for the first time since Dec. 11, 2023, and only the third time since the 2013-14 season. They edged No. 2 Michigan, which earned 19 first-place votes, thanks in part to wins over Florida, UConn and UCLA, along with their 97-68 romp over the then-No. 20 Tigers on Saturday night.Obviously its nothing you shy away from, Wildcats coach Tommy Lloyd said of being No. 1. You know, youre at Arizona. The big stage. Its part of being at a program like this. But we have bigger things on our mind. The Wolverines also moved up one spot for their best ranking since March 2021. Duke claimed six first-place votes and moved up to No. 3. And the Cyclones parlayed their big win in West Lafayette, Indiana, into a six-spot climb to No. 4 and a first-place vote. Iowa State has never been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll era, which began with the 1948-49 season. They stole our spirit, said Purdue coach Matt Painter, whose team tied a record for largest margin of defeat at home as the nations No. 1 team. Our reason for having a high frustration level was them. Theyre damn good. They took us to the woodshed. UConn remained ahead of Purdue at No. 5 after beating Kansas inside Allen Fieldhouse last week.Houston was seventh, Gonzaga climbed three spots to eighth, Michigan State was ninth and BYU rounded the top 10 following a week of high-profile matchups across college basketball. Louisville dropped five spots to No. 11 after losing to Arkansas. Alabama remained at No. 12, followed by Illinois, North Carolina and Vanderbilt, the only unbeaten team left in the SEC and one of just eight left in Division I mens basketball.Texas Tech was next, followed by the Razorbacks, who jumped eight spots after also beating Fresno State last week. Florida fell to No. 18 following its 67-66 loss to the Blue Devils, while Kansas moved up to No. 19 and Tennessee finished out the top 20.The last five in the poll were Auburn, St. Johns, Nebraska, Virginia and UCLA.The No. 23 Huskers are 9-0 for only the third time in school history, and they have won 13 straight dating to last season, the third-longest run in school history. The ranking is their best since they were 21st the second week of the 2014-15 season.Rising and fallingArkansas was No. 14 in the preseason poll, nearly dropped out entirely, but made a big jump this week back to No. 17 following its two wins. Iowa States climb to No. 4 has been a steady one since it was ranked 16th in the preseason poll.Tennessee tumbled seven spots to No. 20 this week following losses to Syracuse and Illinois. Purdue and Louisville each fell five spots. In and outNebraska and Virginia both made their poll debuts, replacing Indiana and USC. The Cavaliers did not receive a single vote last week but earned enough to join the rankings at No. 24. UCLA also returned to the rankings while Kentucky dropped out.Conference watchThe Big 12, Big Ten and SEC lead the way with six ranked teams apiece, but the Big 12 has the nations No. 1 team. It also has four in the top 10, while the Big Ten has three and the SEC none. Flood of retirement announcements expected soon from frusterated GOP House members
The U.S. House of Representatives may soon see a mass exodus of Republican lawmakers who are frustrated with their partys inability to pass legislation and are anticipating Democrats retaking the chamber next year.Multiple Republican lawmakers and aides have said they expect the retirement announcements to start pouring in over the coming weeks, with one insider estimating as many as 20 House Republicans throwing in the towel, according to a recent report in Puck. Thats on top of the 23 Republican representatives who have already announced they are retiring or running for other offices. Related GOP Rep. warns mass exodus of House Republicans is imminent: Morale has never been lower As Pucks Leigh Ann Calswell reports, many of the Republicans who have already announced plans to retire are significantly younger than the Democrats who have announced theirs. Democratic Reps. Jan Schakowsky (IL), Danny Davis (IL), Jerry Nadler (NY), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ), Dwight Evans (PA), Nydia Velzquez (NY), and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) are all in their 70s and 80s, while Reps. Jodey Arrington (TX), Troy Nehls (TX), and Morgan Luttrell (TX) are all in their 50s.Republicans in the House, Calswell writes, are frustrated by their partys lack of an agenda since passing Trumps so-called One Big Beautiful Bill with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) ceding congressional power to the president, along with the disruptive antics by far-right representatives and the partys inability to pass legislation. This Congress has only gotten 46 bills signed into law compared to the last Congresss 274, which was already reportedly the least of any Congress since 1973. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Last week, the New York Times reported that anti-trans Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has been so frustrated with Johnsons leadership that she was planning to huddle with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia to discuss following her lead andretiring earlyfrom Congress. Mace, who is currently running for governor of South Carolina, later denied that she was considering resigning. While she told Calswell that she is tired of the party having to resort to filing discharge petitions to get its agenda passed because Johnson is reluctant to move bills forward, she said she is going to try to stick it out for the remainder of her term. After Greenes announcement last month, one senior House Republican toldPunchbowl News that more explosive early resignations are coming. Its a tinder box. Morale has never been lower. Mike Johnson will be stripped of his gavel and they will lose the majority before this term is out, the anonymous Rep. said. The wave of Republican retirements is not expected to affect the partys slim majority, as most are expected from members in safe districts. So far, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) is the only Republican member from a swing district who has announced his retirement. But, Calswell suggests, another reason so many Republican members are heading for the door may be that they expect Democrats to retake the House next year. A recent Gallup poll showed President Donald Trumps approval rating at 36 percent, while approval for the GOP-led Congress was at just 14 percent. Across-the-board GOP losses in Novembers off-year elections, along with Tennessee Republican Matt Van Eppss single-digit victory last week in a district that Trump won by 22 points in 2024, all point to big losses for the party in 2026.Should Democrats take the House next year, Republicans are likely dreading the thought of defending Trump against investigations and potential impeachment.Calswell went so far as to suggest that if Democrats win back the House, Johnson himself may decide to retire.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

MTG lashes out at interviewer who said she perpetuated toxic political culture: So have you!
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently shocked the country, not only with her resignation from Congress but also with a public apology for the inflammatory rhetoric for which she has become so well known. But in a recent interview with Lesley Stahl for 60 Minutes, Greene didnt seem fully ready to put down the knives. Related Marjorie Taylor Greenes resignation shows that Trump & MAGA arent the same thing Greene called out the countrys toxic political culture, and Stahl responded by reminding Greene that she has long been a part of it. Greene responded defensively. Lesley, youve contributed to it as well Youre accusatory, Greene said. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Stahl pushed back, asking Greene to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people, yelling at people, but Greene interrupted, declaring, Id like you to respond for that. Stahl said she doesnt insult people, but Greene doubled down, saying, You do in the way you question. Youre accusing me right now. Greenes response felt like a departure from her November statement on CNN, where she said, I would like to say humbly, Im sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. Its very bad for our country.I think America needs to come together and end all the toxic, dangerous rhetoric and divide, she added, and Im leading the way with my own example. I hope President Trump can do the same. Many praised her for taking these steps, while others expressed caution about readily accepting her radical, quite sudden transformation as real. Despite the discrepancy in her response to perpetuating toxicity, Greene remained steadfast on 60 Minutes in her anger at the president. The Georgia lawmaker has been breaking from both Trump and the broader Republican party for months, despite having previously remained unflinchingly loyal to both throughout her tenure in Congress. Disagreement over the Epstein Files officially broke the alliance between Trump and Greene. Greene has been a staunch supporter of releasing everything and refused to give in to Republican pressure to remove her name from the House discharge petition to force a vote on the files release.Watch my full interview on 60 Minutes.Im America First America Only and no one can get in the way of that. pic.twitter.com/MkXAfHvvaU Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) December 8, 2025Trump, of course, has been largely against releasing the files, and many believe its because they contain incriminating information about him, considering his close ties to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. He said that [releasing the files] was going to hurt people, Greene told Stahl, adding, I dont know what that means. I dont know who they are.I stood for women who were raped when they were 14 years old, and the president that I fought for for five years called me a traitor for that, so that changed the landscape of things, Greene said. She said she resigned after Trumps public insults toward her led not only to death threats against her but also against her son. When she sent the threats to Trump, she said his response was extremely unkind, but wouldnt share details. But some have found it both ironic and infuriating that Greene cowered under the threats so easily, considering the hate she has perpetuated throughout her time in Congress has no doubt led to similar threats against a myriad of people and groups such as LGBTQ+ people, who she has repeatedly called pedophiles and child abusers.Greene has a long history of anti-LGBTQ+ and particularly anti-transgender rhetoric. She has made opposing LGBTQ+ equality one of the centerpieces of her time in Congress, evenintroducing a bill that would bangender-affirming care for trans youth and make it harder for adults to obtain by banning any federal money from being spent on supporting gender-affirming care.Greene has attempted to add anti-transgender provisionsto numerous budgetary bills to prevent federal agencies fromeven posting about LGBTQ+ rights on social media. She has demonized transgender women asthreats to cisgender womenand believes cis women have a right to not share gender-segregated spaces like restrooms with trans women. After Greene announced her resignation, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX)scorned her for cowardice. Youre on the other side of the president for one week, and you cant take the heat? Crockett told CNN host Jake Tapper. Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes, to not only be on the opposite side of him, but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate, and imagine what those threats look like when you literally are someone like me.She pointed out that many other Republicans who have pushed for the release of the Epstein files have been able to handle Donald Trumps wrath.Marjorie has been an instigator of a lot of this hate that we see as it relates to the MAGA movement, Crockett continued. Its just interesting that I dont know if she really fully understood how bad she was making it for other people, and now that theyre doing it to her Why is it that everyone else is able to stand it and you cant?Greene also said that so many Republicans hate Trump but started kissing his a** once it was clear hed be the partys 2024 candidate. I think theyre terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post about them, she told Stahl. She also emphasized she has zero plans to run for any other political office and said even though no one believes her, its true.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

How Sober One Six Is Rewriting Queer Nightlife and Starting a Revolution That Doesnt Need Alcohol
For Andrew Krumm, sobriety didnt mean opting out of nightlife, it meant rebuilding it from the inside out.Krumm, the founder and lead organizer behind Sober One Six, has spent the past several years quietly reshaping what queer nights out can look like. The Buffalo-based, queer-owned event production company centers drag shows, dance parties, comedy, and community, without making alcohol the star of the show. The result isnt anti-drinking or prescriptive. Its something rarer: nightlife that feels welcoming to everyone, including people who usually stay home.Im very much an open book, Krumm said. Nothings really off the table. That openness extends to the story that sparked Sober One Six in the first place.Choosing Sobriety Without Losing YourselfKrumm quit drinking in January 2020, just weeks before the world shut down. At the time, alcohol had become synonymous with fun, especially in queer spaces.I equated going out and having fun with alcohol, they said. I was more focused on when my next drink was than the experience I was having.Looking back, many pre-sobriety memories feel hazy. Weddings, parties, even casual nights out blurred together. The idea of quitting lingered for nearly two years before Krumm finally acted on it, influenced in part by comedian Nikki Glasers candid conversations about alcohol. After a night that went too far, Krumm ordered Quit Drinking Without Willpower by Allen Carr. They never had another drink. The book just debunked everything we tell ourselves, Krumm said. I couldnt find a good reason to drink. It doesnt give you courage. Its expensive. It actually increases anxiety. What surprised them most wasnt giving up alcohol, it was realizing how much they still wanted to go out.Mocktails, Instagram, and a Pandemic PivotKrumms first mocktail came on Valentines Day 2020 during a night out with a friend who ran a food blog. That moment changed everything.I had to feel like I wasnt giving anything up, Krumm said. Thats what holds a lot of people back.Shortly after, Krumm renamed their personal Instagram Mr. Mocktail, initially planning to spotlight non-alcoholic drinks around Buffalo. When COVID hit, the account shifted into something more personal: sobriety milestones, NA recommendations, and honest reflections. The audience grew beyond Western New York, drawing followers from New York City, Los Angeles, and beyond. When lockdowns eased, a small online sobriety group finally met in person over non-alcoholic margaritas. As invites multiplied and group chats spun out of control, Krumm suggested something simpler.Lets just start a page and say where were going, they recalled.Sober One Six, named for Buffalos 716 area code, was born.A Sober Drag Show and Proof It Could WorkAlthough out since their mid-20s, Krumm hadnt spent much time in Buffalos queer nightlife scene. That changed after meeting a sober drag queen through a friend. The confidence really inspired me, Krumm said. And the fact they were sober while doing it.The idea for a sober drag show followedan experiment in a city known for heavy drinking culture. Krumm promoted it on local news. Three sober drag queens performed. More than 100 people showed up.I was like, Oh. We have something here, they said. The following week, Sober One Six became an LLC.Building Events Around Experience, Not ExcessToday, Sober One Six produces drag shows, comedy nights, Pride events, and monthly sober happy hours at bars and restaurants. Every event features a curated non-alcoholic cocktail list developed in collaboration with venues, often helping businesses rethink their NA offerings.Alcohol is usually availablebut never foregrounded.Well say full bar available if it applies, Krumm explained. But were promoting the event, not the drinks.Events start earlier, rarely running past midnight, attracting people who dont typically go outor who want queer culture without sacrificing sleep.I love having a good time at 8 p.m., Krumm said. And being home by 11.Creating Spaces That Actually Feel SafeKrumm makes a point to speak with attendees at every event. The feedback, they said, has been consistent.A lot of people tell me, I drink, but its so cool to see other options here, they shared. One attendee called a Sober One Six Taylor Swift drag dance party the pinnacle of feeling safe while going out. That stuck with me, Krumm said. Because thats the goal.Rather than preaching sobriety, Sober One Six aims to remove shame, from drinking, not drinking, or simply existing in queer nightlife.I just want people to feel like they can be themselves, Krumm said. Whatever you take from the experience, thats enough.Growing Beyond BuffaloSober One Six has already hosted events in Rochester and New York City, including a sober drag show at Rent Money Lounge during Pride. Krumm frequently collaborates with NA influencer Shay, known online as No Booze Babes, whom they describe as the female version of me.If Buffalo can do this, Krumm said, any city can.Expansion is part of the long-term vision, along with the early development of a proprietary non-alcoholic beveragean extension of the brand rather than a pivot.Whats Next for Sober One SixUpcoming events include Sober One Sing, the companys first karaoke night, and what Krumm calls Buffalos worlds largest sober dance party, inspired by the citys famously boozy disco event.Longer-term plans are intentionally fluid.Sober One Six is me, Krumm said. As I evolve, the events evolve. After leaving a decade-long banking career, and turning a recent layoff into a full-time pivot, Krumm now sees themselves as a curator of experiences, focused on connection rather than consumption. Its actually a really nice life, they said. Its fulfilling. And its fun.For Sober One Six, thats the entire point.Source

Trumps former lawyer Alina Habba resigning as top federal prosecutor in New Jersey
Alina Habba, President Donald Trump's pick to be the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, speaks with reporters outside the White House, March 26, 2025, in Washington. (AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein, File)2025-12-08T19:07:55Z President Donald Trumps former personal attorney, Alina Habba, said Monday she is resigning as the top federal prosecutor for New Jersey, giving up her fight to stay in the job after an appeals court said she had been serving in the post unlawfully. In a statement posted on social media, Habba assailed the courts ruling as political, but said she was resigning to protect the stability and integrity of her office. But do not mistake compliance for surrender, she said, adding that the administration would continue its appeal. This decision will not weaken the Justice Department and it will not weaken me.Habba said she would remain with the Justice Department as a senior advisor to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.Habba, 41, was appointed in March to serve a temporary term as acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey, a powerful post charged with enforcing federal criminal and civil law. Once a partner in a small New Jersey law firm, Habba was among Trumps most visible legal defenders during the four years he was out of power, representing him in court and frequently appearing on cable TV news as his legal spokesperson. But she had limited federal court experience, and New Jerseys two Democratic senators indicated they would block her confirmation in the U.S. Senate. Stay up to date with the news and the best of AP by following our WhatsApp channel. Follow on When her term expired in July, a panel of federal judges appointed one of her subordinates to the role instead. But Bondi promptly fired the replacement, blaming Habbas removal on politically minded judges. A lower-court judges finding that Habba was unlawfully serving in the position soon triggered a monthslong legal standoff, prompting confusion and delays within New Jerseys federal court system. Then, earlier this month, a federal appeals court in Philadelphia disqualified her from serving in the role, writing in their opinion that the citizens of New Jersey and the loyal employees in the U.S. Attorneys Office deserve some clarity and stability. Habba is one of several Trump administration prosecutors whose appointments have faced challenges. The Justice Department had vowed to appeal a judges ruling dismissing the criminal cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James on the grounds that the prosecutor who filed the charges, Lindsey Halligan, was unlawfully appointed as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Its unclear whether the administrations decision to abandon the fight to keep Habba in office may impact other U.S. attorneys whose appointments have been challenged by defense lawyers. In a statement posted on X on Monday, Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche accused judges of engaging in an unconscionable campaign of bias and hostility against Halligan for questioning why she was still being identified as U.S. attorney on court documents. Jinkx Monsoon Gets Immortalized in Patrick Churchs New Capsule Collection
Broadway star and drag legend Jinkx Monsoon is entering the fashion world in a very Jinkx way: boldly, theatrically, and with heart. The two-time RuPauls Drag Race champion has partnered with designer and painter Patrick Church on a limited-edition capsule collection that officially launched today, bringing together two artists whose work thrives on self-expression and emotional honesty.Titled Patrick Church Loves Jinkx Monsoon, the drop merges Churchs signature visual language with Monsoons distinctly camp stage persona. Rather than functioning as standard merch, the collection feels closer to a curated art project, one designed to be worn, lived in, and seen.Available exclusively through Patrick Churchs online store, the capsule includes apparel and accessories featuring original artwork inspired by Monsoon. Each piece reflects Churchs painterly style, known for its intimacy and celebration of queer connection, while channeling the wit and presence that have made Monsoon a standout across drag, theater, and television.A Creative Friendship Turned Fashion StatementAt the core of the collaboration is a genuine creative bond. Church describes Monsoon as someone whose humor and courage align closely with the values that drive his work. The project, he says, offered an opportunity to visually explore joy while honoring a close friend whose influence extends well beyond the stage.Monsoon echoed that sentiment, praising Church not only as a designer, but as a creative force who has helped queer people recognize one another across spaces, from nightlife to formal settings. She highlighted how his work plays with gender expectations by weaving masculine and feminine elements together, resulting in fashion that stands firmly in its own identity. For Monsoon, being represented through Churchs art is more than flattering, its deeply personal. Seeing herself translated into his visual world marks a milestone that blends friendship, respect, and shared cultural impact.Fashion That Speaks to Queer CulturePatrick Churchs designs have long been associated with visibility and connection, often serving as subtle signals within queer communities. That legacy carries into this capsule, which feels as much about recognition as it does about style. The pieces are unapologetic without being exclusionary, inviting fans of both artists to take part in something fleeting but meaningful. While Monsoons current rsum spans Broadway productions like Oh, Mary!, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, and Chicago, this collaboration captures a different side of her public image, less about performance, more about presence.Limited Means LimitedAs with previous Church releases, quantities are intentionally scarce. Once the pieces sell out, they will not be restocked, making the collection a true one-time moment for fans and collectors alike. The Patrick Church Loves Jinkx Monsoon capsule is available now exclusively at patrickchurchartist.com. For those who have followed either artists work, the collaboration offers a wearable snapshot of queer artistry in its most personal formbold, heartfelt, and gone once its gone.Source
