Federal grand jury indicts New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell after long corruption probe
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell listens during a meeting after Hurricane Francine at New Orleans International Airport, Sept. 13, 2024, in Kenner, La. (Hilary Scheinuk/The Advocate via AP, Pool, File)2025-08-15T18:08:06Z NEW ORLEANS (AP) A federal grand jury indicted New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell on Friday after a long corruption investigation.Cantrells lawyer, Eddie Castaing, confirmed to The Associated Press that an indictment was returned, and her name was read aloud by a federal magistrate judge as a defendant. The charges werent immediately known, though federal authorities scheduled an afternoon news conference. The mayors office didnt immediately respond to a phone message or email from The Associated Press seeking comment. The indictment is the culmination of a long-running federal investigation into the first female mayor in the Citys 300-year history.Cantrell, who is term-limited, will leave office in January. The Democrat has clashed with City Council members during a turbulent second term and survived a recall effort in 2022. She hasnt sent out a message on her official feed on X, formerly known as Twitter, since July 15, when she said the city was experiencing historic declines in crime. As Cantrell heads into her final months in office, shes alienated former confidants and supporters, and her civic profile has receded. Her early achievements were eclipsed by self-inflicted wounds and bitter feuds with a hostile city council, political observers say. The mayors role has weakened following voter-approved changes to the citys charter meant to curb her authority. Cantrell and her remaining allies allege that shes been unfairly targeted as Black woman and held to a different standard than male officials, her executive powers sabotaged. Earlier this year, Cantrell said shes faced very disrespectful, insulting, in some cases kind of unimaginable treatment.-Hollingsworth reported from Mission, Kansas. St. Petersburg protesters rally to defend Black history and pride murals amid statewide crackdown
In the hours before a St. Petersburg, Florida, city council meeting on whether to remove street art including murals celebrating Black history and LGBTQ+ pride dozens of demonstrators gathered outside City Hall, urging council members to reject the proposal. We see where its going with them erasing history, James Kitchen, the artist responsible for two of the endangered murals, told 10 Tampa Bay. It set a tempo that all the things we accomplish are getting swept right up from under our feet. City paints over Pride crosswalk on orders from Trump & Ron DeSantis This local debate is unfolding against a broader statewide and national push to eliminate Pride-themed public displays. In May, Floridas Department of Transportation (FDOT) enacted a new policy restricting state-owned bridge lighting to only red, white, and blue colors to mark federal holidays, disallowing rainbow lights for Pride Month. In June, FDOT also ordered municipalities to remove rainbow-painted crosswalks, warning that cities refusing to comply could lose state and federal funding. St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth Welch has confirmed that his city is in discussions with FDOT to determine which elements must be removed and whether any exceptions can be negotiated with the state agency. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today St. Petersburg protester Brian Longstreth told 10 Tampa Bay that the FDOT order was obviously very targeted at who theyre trying to make disappear and called on the community to stand tall unified against this.Other Florida cities have already complied with the order, with rainbow crosswalks having been removed in Boynton Beach and West Palm Beach. The memoranda literally blackmails municipalities, Palm Beach County Human Rights Commission president Rand Hoch told 7 News in July. If you dont remove these, we are going to withhold federal and state funds.Earlier this month, Gainesville residents filled City Hall with overflow crowds gathering in the basement to oppose the removal of the citys three rainbow-painted crosswalks. Despite the outcry, however, the city commission voted unanimously to paint over them. The rainbow memorial at the site of the former LGBTQ+ Pulse nightclub where 49 people died in 2016 when a mass murderer opened fire is facing the same threat. That particular crosswalk, the rainbow crosswalk, was put there specifically to be part of the memorial, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said in July. However, the FDOT order mandates that allnon-standard surface markings be removed by municipalities. The current administration is pushing such policies nationwide. In July, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to governors in all 50 states, demanding that they remove rainbow crosswalks, claiming without evidence that the colors distract drivers and cause accidents. Critics have pointed out, however, that a 2022 Bloomberg Philanthropies study found that intersections with asphalt art saw over a 50% drop in crashes. The reason we painted the intersections to begin with, each of the ones downtown, was most of the studies say that it makes it safer, so I dont know what information theyre talking a look at, Dyer said regarding the five murals painted on Orlando intersections.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Khalid Takes Back His Story with New Single In Plain Sight
For years, Khalid built a career as one of the streaming eras most reliable hitmakers, churning out soulful, introspective anthems like Young Dumb & Broke and Better, while keeping his personal life close to the chest. But now, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter is done hiding, and his bold new single In Plain Sight marks the beginning of an unapologetically honest chapter. The track, which previews his upcoming album After the Sun Goes Down, out Oct. 10 via Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records, channels throwback New Jack Swing and early 2000s pop with a pulsing house beat. Its accompanying video is just as audacious: strobe lights, glass walls, sensual choreography, and a confident Khalid dancing, literally and metaphorically, out of the closet.Yes, it was a glass closet, Khalid cheekily confirmed on social media, responding to a fans observation. But behind the bravado is a story of pain, betrayal, and ultimately, empowerment.Earlier this year, Khalid was on his way to the studio when his life was upended. In a viral post, singer Hugo Almonte publicly outed him, sharing a private photo and intimate details of their past relationship. At the time, Khalid had never explicitly addressed his sexuality, choosing ambiguity in his lyrics and keeping his identity private. I blended in and life felt calm, he told GQ in a recent interview. What followed was something he didnt expect: an outpouring of support. People who looked like me, that were supporting me, that were around my age, that were older, that were parents, that were children, he said. The support that you get by completely being yourself outweighs the negativity that you perceive from being yourself.Reinvigorated, he returned to the studio with renewed purpose and a clear vision. Working alongside a powerhouse lineup, including Julia Michaels, Tove Lo, Ryan Tedder and Ilya, Khalid began crafting a record unlike anything hes done before. It was like a floodgate, he said. You go years with a drought and then its just an instant rush of creativity and inspiration and drive. Now, half a year removed from the fallout, Khalid is ready to share his most personal work to date. After the Sun Goes Down is lush, emotionally raw, and, by his own description, a little horny. A far cry from the moody introspection of Location or Talk, the new material finds Khalid exploring sensuality, confidence, and queer joy with unfiltered honesty.Im singing in a different pocket of my soul because theres no fear in my heart, he said. Im just like, Im here. Im alive. It comes from me embracing my sexuality. Being ambiguous is one thing and can be respected, but being bold thats something else.In Plain Sight is the first taste of this evolution. With lines like Whats the tea about him? Khalid boldly drops the gender-neutral pronouns of the past in favor of clarity, attitude, and swagger. I like to refer to myself as a one-man boy band, he joked.Stylistically, the single nods to the likes of early 90s R&B and TRL-era pop, with Khalid citing Toni Braxtons He Wasnt Man Enough as a creative north star. Shes reclaiming herself in that song, he explained. Theres nothing more powerful than choosing yourself. When I choose myself, it bleeds out into the writing, the self-respect, the self-worth.That spirit of reclamation pulses throughout his upcoming album, a project that seeks to move Khalid from the melancholic ballads of the bedroom to the pulsing energy of the dancefloor. On it, hes not asking for acceptance, hes celebrating it.This chapter is about taking my power back, living in my truth, and being able to express myself freely, Khalid said in a press statement. Im excited for my fans to experience this new era with me, not just musically, but personally. With After the Sun Goes Down, Khalid isnt just stepping into a new sound, hes stepping fully into himself.Source

Republicans launch investigation into Kansas school districts for not outing trans kids
The Education Department (ED), Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, and a right-wing policy and legal group are colluding to attack four school districts in Kansas where they claim gender ideology has run amok. Not a single complaint by a parent has been filed on the issue in any of the four districts. Related Department of Education renames June Title IX Month in attack on LGBTQ+ equality Investigations are being launched by the EDs Office of Civil Rights and a newly revealed enforcement arm at the department, the Student Privacy Policy Office, based solely on a complaint filed with the department by the right-wing Defense of Freedom Institute. That group alleges that at least one districts policies permit students to participate in sports and access bathroom and changing facilities based on their gender identity instead of their biological sex. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The complaint adds that district policies in Topeka, Shawnee, Olathe, and Kansas City, Kansas, prevent school officials from outing trans students to their parents without the students consent. The ED and Kobach ran with those allegations, without consulting with the school districts beforehand. That may have undermined a reason for the performative attack, as targets for the presidents gender ideology crusade in school districts around the country dry up. The Kansas districts alleged behavior of allowing gender ideology to run amok in their schools is an affront not only to the law, but to the sound judgment we expect from our educational leaders, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said, announcing the investigations in well-worn language.School personnel should not confuse and unsettle young girls by forcing them to share sex-separated sports and intimate facilities with boys; nor should school personnel abuse their position of authority by hiding sensitive information pertaining to a childs health and well-being from that childs parents. The ED said the schools policies describe actions in violation of the administrations upside-down interpretation of Title IX, where access to play by trans athletes is discrimination against cisgender girls. Kobach claimed schools across the country are ignoring their obligation to keep children safe from harm by promoting a virulent ideology that pushes children into a pipeline of social transitioning.'These claims are just noise, said Christy Moreno, advocacy officer for Revolucin Educativa, a group that supports educators and students in Kansas and Missouri. For far too long, we have one state leader who has been attacking public education, attacking students, and is now getting a little attention in D.C., Moreno said of Kobach. We believe that any positive experience for students, anything that is going to impact their well-being and their learning, needs to be supported. The far-right Defense of Freedom Institute is representing an aggrieved teacher from one of the four school districtsunder investigation, who they say was wrongfully and unlawfully disciplined for refusing diversity, equity, and inclusion training.Shawnee Mission School District, where that high school teacher taught, issued a statement following receipt of their investigation notice letter, which differs from those issued by the ED under previous administrations. This letter outlines the [U.S. Department of Educations] enforcement options to withhold payments, to issue cease and desist orders, and to sue, the Shawnee Mission school district said of the threatening correspondence. They added, Through today, SMSD is not aware of any parent or student filing an OCR complaint alleging that the districts practices for working with transgender students and their families violates Title IX. We of course stand ready to address any concerns from an SMSD family that come forward.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

'Freakier Friday' director wants to see these hunks in each other's bodies for next film
The director of Freakier Friday is already brainstorming for a third film, and her ideas definitely lend themselves to a pretty freaky outcome! The long-awaited sequel to the 2003 Disney film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis hit theaters earlier this month. While the first movie (one of four film adaptations of a children's novel) centers around mom and daughter accidentally swapping bodies, the sequel gets a little more complicated. Adding a third generation into the mix, Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) swap bodies with Anna's daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons). Also in the mix are Manny Jacinto as Eric, Anna's fianc, and Chad Michael Murray, reprising his role as Anna's ex-boyfriend, Jake.So what would a Freakiest Friday look like?"I mean, more swaps, right?" director Nisha Ganatra recently told ScreenRant. "Probably a six-way swap. We'd definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that!" (@) Ganatra is hardly the first person to ruminate on what Freakiest Friday might look like. Folks on the internet have already been busy tossing their own ideas and worries into the mix. (@) "Freakiest Friday should be that scene from Scooby-Doo (2002) where everyone keeps switching bodies for 100 mins" (@) "Pitching Freakiest Friday, where the mind swaps keep progressing up and down the lineage. A girl in 2050 swaps minds with her great great grandmother in 1910. The mind of a wizened matron of the Bell Beakers is swapped with her prehensile tailed zero-G adapted spacer descendent" (@) "freakiest friday will complete the trilogy -- chad michael murray has gone full villain. he successfully seduces JLC and ends her marriage. then changes body w hilary duff, and reignites the old feud by stalking and barraging lilo w vague threats" (@) "Third movie: Freakiest FridayFourth movie: Freaky 4 FridayFifth movie: Freaky 5day" (@) "I don't know how much fun Freakiest Friday will be in another 20-some years when Lohan's character is suffering early onset dementia and Curtis's character is dead."Curtis and Lohan have also both weighed in on the future of the Freaky Friday franchise in recent months. During an interview with Today FM, Curtis expressed an interest in completing the trilogy with a fourth generation involved."If Harper has a child, and/or Lily, or if both of them have children and they're both 15, and I'm a great grandma, Lindsay would be a grandma," she suggested. "What a trilogy for Disney to have, right?"Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of a third film happening, Lohan seemed optimistic."Between Jamie and I, it's pretty real," she said.

Netflixs Boots Marches Into Fall TV Lineup With Coming-Out Story Set in the Military
Netflixs upcoming series Boots, a heartfelt and irreverent coming-of-age drama set against the rigid backdrop of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1990, is finally marching toward its premiere. The show, inspired by Greg Cope Whites memoir The Pink Marine, stars 13 Reasons Why alum Miles Heizer as a closeted teen navigating boot camp and self-acceptance. After a yearlong delay due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Boots will debut on Oct. 9, delivering a fresh, queer lens on a period and institution where being openly gay could end your career, or worse.Originally titled The Corps, the series marks a significant milestone as the final television project from trailblazing producer Norman Lear, who died in December 2023 at the age of 101. Lears legacy as a champion of progressive storytelling continues in Boots, which unapologetically centers queer identity, friendship, masculinity, and resilience during a time when Dont Ask, Dont Tell wasnt even official policy, it was just the unspoken law.Miles Heizer in Boots Photo: NetflixA Delayed but Powerful March ForwardGreenlit in May 2023, Boots began filming that summer but was quickly sidelined after just one week due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that halted most of Hollywood. Production finally resumed in March 2024 and wrapped by August, just three months ahead of the 2024 presidential election. While Netflix has not disclosed reasons for the extended delay in its release, the cultural landscape surrounding LGBTQ+ military representation has evolved rapidly, even within the past year, potentially amplifying the shows resonance in todays political climate.(L-R) Cedrick Cooper and Ana Ayora in BootsPhoto: NetflixA Marine Corps Boot Camp Like No OtherAt the heart of Boots is Cameron Cope, played by Heizer, a soft-spoken, closeted 18-year-old looking for purpose in a world that doesnt yet allow him to be himself. Pushed by his mother and his own confusion, Cameron enlists in the U.S. Marine Corps alongside his straight best friend Ray McAffey (played by Liam Oh). Together, they join a ragtag group of diverse recruits from all walks of life, each with something to prove, something to hide, or both.(L-R) Joy Osmanski and Vera Farmiga in Boots Photo: NetflixSet in 1990, before LGBTQ+ individuals could legally serve in the military, the series paints a vivid portrait of life on the inside, where masculinity is rigidly enforced, fear is constant, and camaraderie is the only way through. In this high-stakes environment, Cameron must decide whether to hide who he is or take the enormous risk of living out loud. The show balances tension with comedy and vulnerability, evoking comparisons to Band of Brothers crossed with Sex Education. But Boots carves its own path, offering a rare window into the queer military experience without erasing its harsh realities.Vera Farmiga in Boots Photo: NetflixFrom Memoir to ScreenThe show draws heavily from Greg Cope Whites memoir The Pink Marine, which chronicled his own experience as a gay teenager entering Marine boot camp in the Reagan-Bush era. The adaptation maintains the emotional weight of Whites story while updating it with the stylized flair of a Netflix original, complete with ensemble storytelling, sharp dialogue, and deeply personal stakes. While the story is fictionalized for television, its roots in lived queer history lend Boots an emotional authenticity. Its not just about being gay in the military, a Netflix spokesperson said in a press release. Its about identity, friendship, fear, and the choice to be brave in the face of overwhelming pressure to conform.BOOTS. Norman Lear and his longtime producing partner Brent Miller executive produced through Act III Productions. The project also boasts direction from Peter Hoar (notably behind Its a Sin and The Last of Us poignant queer episode Long, Long Time), who helms the pilot.BOOTS. Known for pioneering social commentary in sitcoms like All in the Family, One Day at a Time, and The Jeffersons, Lear spent his career pushing the boundaries of what television could say, and who it could represent. With Boots, Lears lifelong commitment to inclusive storytelling comes full circle. The show doesnt just feature a gay protagonist; it treats queerness with depth, humor, and humanity. In a media landscape still catching up with authentic LGBTQ+ military stories, Boots is a rare and necessary addition.BOOTS. Matt fires back, Youre going to pay me, with a sass that catches Beau off guard and sparks an awkward giggle.Matt closes on a note of bittersweet gratitude: Im going to take a second to lick my wounds. Im really grateful to have had you in my life. Im proud of what weve done and Im proud of what were doing right now. Beau offers a fist bump, which Matt reluctantly accepts.A Decade of Probably ThisMatt and Beaus partnership began in college at Loyola University, where a chance meeting at an internship info table led to teaching English together in Vietnam just months later. What started as an adventurous relationship turned into a professional powerhouse when they launched Probably This in 2014.The blog became a hub for approachable DIYs, home design inspiration, and recipes, often framed against the colorful backdrop of their New Orleans life. Their different working styles balanced each other: Beaus creative spontaneity met Matts detail-oriented approach, resulting in projects that resonated with their growing audience. They went on to publish a book and expand their brand into a full-time endeavor, earning a loyal following on TikTok, Instagram, and beyond. Now, the future of Probably This as a brand remains to be seen, but their announcement makes clear that while the romance has ended, the friendship, and possibly their creative collaborations, will continue. For longtime fans, the breakup video is a stark reminder that even the most picture-perfect partnerships face change, and sometimes the most loving choice is to redefine the relationship entirely.Source

Wayans Brothers Reunite for Scary Movie 6 With Anna Faris and Regina Hall
After nearly two decades apart, the Wayans brothers are resurrecting the Scary Movie franchise, and theyre not coming alone. Anna Faris and Regina Hall will return as Cindy and Brenda, bringing back the iconic duo for the first time since 2013.A Double ReunionMarlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, who created the original parody series in 2000, are teaming up once again to co-write the script with longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. The upcoming film marks their first joint Scary Movie project in 18 years. Keenen, who directed the first two installments, will serve as producer. The reunion also extends to Faris and Hall, who became fan favorites for their outrageous antics in the first four films. In a joint statement, the actresses said, We cant wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlonthree men wed literally die for (in Brendas case, again).New Chapter, Familiar FacesMichael Tiddes, best known for directing A Haunted House, Naked and Sextuplets, will helm the project. Tiddes started his career as an assistant on White Chicks and has maintained a close working relationship with the Wayans ever since.Miramax, under its first-look deal with Paramount, is producing, with Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thomas Zadra as executive producers. Production is slated to begin in October, targeting a June 12, 2026, worldwide theatrical release.A Genre Ready for RoastThe timing couldnt be more fitting. Horror has dominated the box office in recent years, and the franchises trademark blend of slapstick and satire could be a welcome antidote to the current wave of grim slashers and supernatural thrillers. As Marlon Wayans put it last fall, After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what theyve been asking for a return to the Scary Movie franchise!A Billion-Dollar LegacyThe Scary Movie films have grossed nearly $900 million worldwide. The original 2000 release broke records as one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror comedies of its time, opening with $42.5 million. While later sequels varied in critical reception, the first two, created under the Wayans guidance, remain cult favorites. For Faris, the decision to return was clear. In a 2024 interview, she said shed only reprise her role if Hall joined her. We would make each other giggle all day long, Faris said. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina! With the original creative team back in place, the Scary Movie franchise seems ready to scream, and laugh, its way back into theaters.Source

This Queer Rendition of The Garden of Eden Makes You Wanna Take a Bite of Forbidden Fruit
In his newest visual project, The Queer Garden of Eden, artist and visionary Barry Brandon returns to the beginning, not just of creation, but of narrative control. Reclaiming one of the most iconic stories in Judeo-Christian tradition, Brandon reimagines the Garden of Eden as a queer, QT/BIPOC sanctuary, a dreamlike place where pleasure, truth, and divinity converge. This stunning photoshoot and accompanying film mark the first installment of Brandons bold Holey Week series, a queer reinterpretation of canonical spiritual stories that centers those historically excluded from them. And in Eden, Brandon isnt just tweaking the mythhes rewriting it from the roots up.A New Genesis, Born from Divine DefianceThe Queer Garden of Eden expands on themes Brandon explored in his earlier work Divine Defiance, which challenged systems that silence queer voices. While that piece was about resistance, Eden is about transformation. This project came from a very personal place, Brandon shares. It was about reclaiming stories that have been used to shame us, to tell us that our existence is something to hide or heal.In Brandons retelling, Eve isnt punished for seeking knowledge, shes honored for it. The truth flows not from God to man, but from a queer, feminine lineage: from Satan to the serpents (cast as AFAB women), to Eve (portrayed by a transgender woman), to Adam, and finally to queer men.Building a Visual Language of LiberationThe films aesthetic is rich, surreal, and steeped in spiritual iconography, yet unmistakably queer. Apples, cherries, pomegranates, and live snakes (yes, real ones) appear throughout the set as symbols of forbidden knowledge. But here, that knowledge is no longer dangerousits sacred.Biblical and religious art were reference points, but Brandon intentionally queered these elements, reshaping them into something both reverent and revolutionary. We twisted them, softened them, made them ours, he says.Every casting choice and visual decision was intentional, from who played which roles to how bodies were positioned. The goal wasnt just aesthetic beauty, but to create a visual language that declared: This space is holy because we are here. From Collective Energy to Cinematic DreamFor Brandon, creating the ethereal tone of The Queer Garden of Eden began long before cameras rolled. It started with energy, he says. We had deep conversations about what Eden meant to us, not just the myth, but the feeling of it. Safety. Expansion. Play.Every performer brought their full self to the project. Brandon wanted presence, not performance. I wanted the camera to capture embodiment, not acting, he explains. The dreamlike quality came from trusting the moment and letting it breathe. As with much of his work, Eden introduces individual characters through a shared narrative. Its individuality within togetherness, he says. Thats always been part of my visual language.Holey Week: Queer Divinity UnleashedThe Queer Garden of Eden is the first chapter in Brandons Holey Week series, his own subversive, spiritual remix of Christianitys Holy Week. Each piece in the series reclaims a different part of the queer spiritual journey, and Eden lays the foundation for a radical re-envisioning of what divinity can look like. This is just the beginning, Brandon says. We are rewriting everything. From Repression to ReclamationBrandons own upbringing in a religious environment deeply informed his need to reclaim spiritual space. When you grow up queer and religious, you learn that parts of you are wrong before you even know what they are, he says. I spent a long time trying to find peace with a version of spirituality that excluded me.That journey ultimately led him not to compromise, but to create a new form of spiritual wholeness. I realized, I dont need their peace. I need my own.Reimagining Eden wasnt just a creative act, it was healing. It was about saying: we exist. We have always existed. And if there is a divine story, queerness was there from the beginning.Sacred Bodies, Divine TruthAt the heart of The Queer Garden of Eden is a reclamation of QT/BIPOC bodies in a sacred context, images still rarely seen in mainstream visual narratives. He hopes the work acts as a mirror for those whove never seen themselves reflected in sacred stories. I want people to look at this and feel seen. Not just tolerated central. Not just surviving divine.Sensuality as Sacred WisdomBrandon rejects the binary between sensuality and spirituality, calling it a false division used to control marginalized bodies. In Eden, the sensual is spiritual. Thats what has always scared institutions, he adds. Free people cannot be controlled.Responses, Resistance, and RevolutionThe work has sparked deep emotional responses, and some resistance. Ive had people cry, write to me about how it helped them rethink their childhood faith, Brandon says. And yes, Ive had pushback too.But that tension, he says, is part of the process. Reclamation will always come with resistance. My job isnt to appease. Its to provoke. To expand. To invite.A Garden to Belong InLooking ahead, Brandon hopes The Queer Garden of Eden finds its way to the queer youth who need it mostparticularly QT/BIPOC audiences still searching for sacred reflections of themselves.Source

Conan Grays Caramel Turns Sweet Nostalgia Into Something That Sticks
Conan Grays latest single, Caramel, peels back the glossy layers of romance to reveal something far less tidy. Released Aug. 15 as the eighth track on his fourth studio album, Wishbone, the song pairs stripped-down guitar with bursts of brass to capture the restless rhythm of a relationship that refuses to resolve.A Reunion That Isnt a ResolutionProduced by Dan Nigro and released via Republic Records and GirlyBoy, Inc., Caramel joins Wishbone standouts This Song and Vodka Cranberry in chronicling Grays on-again, off-again entanglement with the recurring figure known as Brando. But where the earlier tracks toy with hope or resignation, this one lands in an uneasy middle ground. The arrangement mirrors that push-and-pull. The track opens with quick percussion and bright horns, only to strip down to Grays bare vocal over guitar. The beat lingers in the background, like a memory you cant fully shake. His delivery carries the weight of hindsight, each past-tense lyric pulling further from the romanticized version of events. The Story Behind the VideoDirected by Danica Kleinknecht, the Caramel music video heightens the songs emotional undercurrent without spelling it out. It opens with Gray alone, getting out of a pool, pensive, going home to stare out the window with solemn energy, before shifting to a chance supermarket encounter with Brando. From there, the mood lightens. They share a caravan, exchange familiar touches, laugh like old times. For a moment, it feels like a scene from a coming-of-age film where reconciliation is inevitable. But as the music swells, the illusion cracks. On a bus ride, Grays tears signal not heartbreak, but recognition: the spark is gone. The reunion is comfortable, not electric.Fan ReactionsListeners had some visceral reactions to the music video. On YouTube, one fan exclaimed, I will, in fact, be informing my therapist about this in our next session. Another stated, Conan, this is a perfect album (for me why would you hurt me like this). The Bitter Aftertaste of CaramelIn Wishbone, Gray weaves 90s alt-pop, soft grunge, and introspective guitar work into stories of loves messier chapters. Caramel stands out not because it offers closure, but because it doesnt pretend closure is possible. If This Song hinted at possibility and Vodka Cranberry watched it dissolve, Caramel is the quiet ride home, eyes forward, but every landmark a reminder of where youve been. Its not about sweetness at all. Its about what lingers after the sweetness fades.Source

Rene Rapp and Gabby Windey Serve an Hour of Sapphic Chaos
If you want to feel like youre in a full-on yapp-off with Rene Rapp and Gabby Windey about all things gay, this is it. An hour of unhinged sapphic chaos. In this weeks episode of Windeys Long Winded podcast, Rapp joins to continue her iconic press tour following the release of her sophomore album, Bite Me. A triple threat, an actor, a singer, a doer of the splits, Windey says to introduce Rapp. Believe you me. Im splitting on that b**ch, the singer responds. This is the energy going into this conversation. Gay Friend Groups, Scissoring, and Strap-OnsWindey then launches into the conversation, asking Rapp how she found her lesbian friend group, to which she answers, I dated them. Classic. The conversation then spirals into scissoring, how scary straight men are, being gay enough, and so much more. So buckle up, throw on some shades, grab your iced coffee (or refresher) and get ready for unfiltered convos about strap-ons (with or without balls). We need to be sucking strap in the club more. Teenage CrushesI always felt like I was better than everyone else, she begins, before diving into a story from when she was 14 and starring in a community theater production of Carrie. Among the cast was a maybe 24-year-old woman who instantly caught her attention. You dont look like Mary-Sue who I go to school with. Both Rapp and Windey agreed theyve always loved the weird ones. This woman had a ripped shirt, red spiky hair, and the kind of effortlessly cool vibe that burns into your teenage brain forever. Sadly, we dont know where she is now. The two also cover astrology, how hot Rapp and her girlfriend Towa are, and crying. Its a nonstop party. Start your weekend here!Gabby Windey is best known as one of the leading ladies of The Bachelorette Season 19, where she co-starred alongside Rachel Recchia. Before her reality TV fame, she was a Denver Broncos cheerleader and ICU nurse yes, she can save lives and serve looks. Since her time handing out roses, Windey has appeared on Dancing With the Stars (finishing second), Traitors, and made headlines in 2023 when she came out as queer, introducing her girlfriend Robby Hoffman on social media (they tied the knot earlier this year). Rene Rapp is a rising pop powerhouse and actor with a knack for turning personal experiences into unapologetic anthems. She first broke out on Broadway as Regina George in Mean Girls: The Musical, then won over TV audiences as Leighton Murray on HBOs The Sex Lives of College Girls.
