APNEWS.COMGrard Depardieu willActor Gerard Depardieu arrives with his lawyer Jeremie Assous, right, to face trial for the alleged sexual assaults of two women on a film set in 2021, Monday, March 24, 2025 in Paris. (AP Photo/Aurelien Morissard, file)2025-09-02T11:54:29Z PARIS (AP) French film star Grard Depardieu has been ordered to stand trial before a criminal court in Paris over allegations of rape and sexual assault against actor Charlotte Arnould.I feel relieved, Arnould, 29, wrote on Instagram on Tuesday, announcing that she had received the investigating judges indictment order. The order restores a form of judicial truth. I think Im having trouble realizing how huge this is.Arnould has said that the alleged crimes took place at Depardieus Paris home on Aug. 7 and Aug. 13, 2018. She was 22 and he was 69 at the time. He has denied wrongdoing. The acts of rape and sexual assault have been acknowledged, Arnould said. Now, we await the next steps. No date for the trial has been set yet, and there was no official comment from the court.Arnoulds lawyer, Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, said in a statement that she and Arnould were relieved and confident, describing the decision as a moment of judicial truth in the case, pending trial. Prosecutors submitted a request last year for the case to proceed to trial. The 76-year-old Depardieu, one of the most prominent figures in French cinema for decades, has faced a series of accusations of wrongdoing against women in recent years. He was convicted earlier this year of sexually assaulting two women on a film set and received an 18-month suspended prison sentence. The case was widely seen as a post-#MeToo test for the countrys film industry. Arnould attended that trial. In that case, Depardieu was convicted of groping a 54-year-old woman responsible for decorating the set and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of Les Volets Verts (The Green Shutters) in 2021. The court ordered his name to be listed in the national sex offender database. The actor has been accused publicly or in formal complaints of misconduct by more than 20 women in all, but so far only the sexual assault case has proceeded to court. Other cases were dropped because of a lack of evidence or because the statute of limitations expired. For more than a half-century, Depardieu stood as a towering figure in French cinema, a titan known for his commanding physical presence, instinct, sensibility and remarkable versatility. A bon vivant who overcame a speech impediment and a turbulent youth, Depardieu rose to prominence in the 1970s and became one of Frances most prolific and acclaimed actors, portraying a vast array of characters, from volatile outsiders to deeply introspective figures. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1991 for his performance as the swordsman and poet Cyrano de Bergerac. In recent years, his behavior toward women has come under renewed scrutiny, including after a documentary showed him repeatedly making obscene remarks and gestures during a 2018 trip to North Korea. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMJK Rowlings ally told people to punch trans women. He just got arrested.JK Rowlings UK comrade in anti-trans activism, comedy writer Graham Linehan, was arrested as he stepped off a plane in London on Monday, on suspicion of inciting anti-trans violence via social media.Among three messages posted to X was one encouraging people to punch trans women in the balls. Related JK Rowlings pro-trans nemesis Nicola Sturgeon just came out as queer If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act, the out-of-work Britcom writer-producer wrote. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls. If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls. Graham Linehan (@Glinner) April 20, 2025 Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In a Substack post detailing his arrest and detention, Linehan called the baiting post a serious point made with a joke. The punch was a bit about the height difference between men and women, Linehan said, while admitting the joke fell flat. Were not THAT small, one of the arresting female officers told him.Another cop mentioned trans people,' Linehan wrote. I asked him what he meant by the phrase. People who feel their gender is different than what was assigned at birth.I said Assigned at birth? Our sex isnt assigned. He called it semantics, I told him he was using activist language. The damage Stonewall has done to the UK police force will take years to mend, Linehan said, referring to the LGBTQ+ group Stonewall UK, which has advocated for the marginalized community.Anti-trans and right-wing supporters including Rowling, Elon Musk, Nigel Farage, and Piers Morgan lined up in support behind Linehan, the Daily Mail reports. What the fuck has the UK become? This is totalitarianism. Utterly deplorable. https://t.co/CRl2n9rorh J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 2, 2025Like fellow writer Rowling, Linehan produced widely popular work for decades in the UK before taking up the mantle of anti-trans activism and suffering the backlash.Linehans anti-trans views first came to light in a screed in his Britcom The IT Crowd in 2008. More public pronouncements earned bans on Twitter and a public alliance with Rowling as her own anti-trans activism obscured her once-favorable reputation for writing the beloved Harry Potter book series.Linehans comedy career in the UK dried up in the ensuing years, and hes admitted his activism became an obsession overtaking his professional and personal life. His wife divorced him in 2020.In December 2024, Linehan announced plans to move to Arizona to work on a sitcom and create a production companywith fellow anti-trans activist and comedian Rob Schneider and gay Irish Brexiter activist Andrew Doyle. Linehan was on his way back from Phoenix when he was detained at Londons Heathrow airport. The Father Ted creator wrote that the detention put his health in danger. The doctors suggested the high blood pressure was stress-related, combined with long-haul travel and lack of movement, he wrote on his Substack. I feel it may also have been a contributing factor that I have now spent eight years being targeted by trans activists working in tandem with police in a dedicated, persistent harassment campaign because I refuse to believe that lesbians have c**ks.Linehan reported authorities imposed just one condition for bail: he is not to go on Twitter. While he also called police consistently decent throughout this farce, the civility of individual officers doesnt alter the fundamental reality of what happened, Linehan wrote.I was arrested at an airport like a terrorist, locked in a cell like a criminal, taken to hospital because the stress nearly killed me, and banned from speaking onlineall because I made jokes that upset some psychotic crossdressers, he wrote. To me, this proves one thing beyond doubt: the UK has become a country that is hostile to freedom of speech, hostile to women, and far too accommodating to the demands of violent, entitled, abusive men who have turned the police into their personal goon squad.Despite Linehans claims about trans women being violent, entitled, [and] abusive, the vast number of attacks on trans and non-trans people are carried out by cisgender men.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 55 Vue 0 Aperçu

WWW.PRIDE.COMJ.K. Rowling fails at gaslighting with predictable rant against 'Harry Potter' directorAnother one of J.K. Rowling's former collaborators had the audacity to publicly disagree with her beliefs, so the once-beloved children's author has gone on yet another transphobic rant. Who had this on their bingo card for 2025? Oh, right. Everyone.Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, recently made headlines for several remarks he made in reference to the franchise. In addition to telling The Times UK that a reboot with the original cast is "never going to happen" thanks to the differing political opinions between Rowling and the cast, he also gave his own perspective on Rowling's dive into relentless transphobia."I like to sometimes separate the artist from the art, I think that's important to do," he told Variety. "It's unfortunate, what's happened. I certainly don't agree with what she's talking about. But it's just sad, it's very sad."Rowling has become known for lashing out at her detractors online, and she certainly didn't pass up the opportunity to do that here. By Monday, she had posted a lengthy ramble on X, trying to reframe the conversation in the same way she always does, by insisting she's just fighting for women's rights, while largely ignoring the fact that her crusade is rooted in keeping trans women out.Of course, her true colors showed through perfectly by the end. Let's take a look at her points. As another man who once worked with me declares himself saddened by my beliefs on gender and sex, I thought it might be useful to compile a list for handy reference. Which of the following do you imagine makes actors and directors who arent involved with the HBO reboot of Harry Potter so miserable? Is it my belief that women and girls should have their own public changing rooms and bathrooms? No, it's that you don't think trans women are women. That women should retain female-only rape crisis centres? No, it's that you don't think trans women are women. That men dont belong in womens sport? No, it's that you don't think trans women are women. That female prisoners shouldnt be incarcerated with violent men and male sex offenders? No, it's that you don't think trans women are women. That women should remain a protected class in law, because they have sex-specific needs and issues? No, it's that you don't think trans women are women. That language should reflect reality rather than ideological jargon, especially in a medical context?Actually, do you think that, J.K.? Because a lot of us remember when you made fun of the terminology "people who menstruate," despite it being a much clearer way of reflecting reality in a medical contextone that's inclusive not only of trans men, but of intersex people, and takes care to exclude women who, y'know, don't menstruate. But you sure went with "ideological jargon" over reality there, didn't you? That women shouldnt be harassed, persecuted or fired for refusing to pretend humans can change sex?Trans rights supporters understand the difference between sex and gender, actually. That women should not be threatened with violence and rape when they assert their rights?Nope, it's still that you don't think trans women are women. That freedom of speech and belief are essential to a pluralistic democratic society? You can believe whatever you want, but using your platform to encourage harassment against trans people because of those beliefs kind of sucks, dude. That troubled minors, especially those who are gay, autistic and trauma-experienced, should be given mental health support instead of irreversible surgeries and drug treatments on non-existent evidence of benefit?Maybe it's the whole peddling misinformation and deeply flawed studies bit. That gay people shouldnt be pressured to include the opposite sex in their dating pools, nor should they be smeared as genital fetishists when they dont? There's a difference between not wanting to date someone and wanting to completely invalidate them and strip them of their rights. But sure, let's keep getting way off topic here. That cross-dressing heterosexual male fetishists arent actually oppressed, but having the time of their lives piggybacking off gender identity ideology?Womp, there it is.That said ideology, and the privileged, blinkered fools pushing it because they suffer zero consequences themselves, have done more damage to the political lefts credibility than Trump and Farage could have achieved in a century?Incredible. Now we've got the triple whammy of alleging that trans people and trans rights supporters are a "privileged" class (billionaire says what?), that trans peoplewho have the courage to stand up against society and expectations and relentless waves of hate every single daysuffer "zero consequences" for their authenticity," and that begging for people to be called by their preferred pronouns is somehow more damaging to the world than political leaders who represent racism, Nazis, and the potential rise of fascism.Let me have your thoughts.Go eat mold, J.K.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 56 Vue 0 Aperçu

GAYETY.COMArrests and Releases Continue Over Rainbow Chalk Art at Pulse Memorial SiteFour LGBTQ+ rights advocates arrested for using sidewalk chalk at the site of the former Pulse nightclub memorial crosswalk have now been released without any charges, fueling concerns over the criminalization of peaceful protest and the ongoing erasure of queer symbols in public spaces. The protesters, Orestes Sebastian Suarez, 29; Maryjane East, 25; Donavon Short, 26; and Zane Aparicio, 39, were each arrested over the past several days by Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers. The official charge? Defacing a traffic device. Their alleged actions involved using chalk to restore rainbow patterns to a crosswalk that once commemorated the 49 lives lost in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, one of the deadliest anti-LGBTQ+ attacks in U.S. history. On Monday, however, all four individuals had been released without any pending charges, prompting questions about the arrests legitimacy and whether law enforcement had overstepped its authority in suppressing peaceful queer expression.A Peaceful Protest, Met With PoliceThe protests began after the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), acting under direction from the Trump administration, removed the rainbow-painted crosswalk on August 21. The colorful intersection, located at W. Esther Street and S. Orange Avenue, had served as a highly visible tribute to Pulse victims and a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and resilience in Orlando. The states decision to erase it, reportedly as part of a broader directive to eliminate distractions from public roadways, was met with swift backlash. Activists returned to the site with chalk in hand, attempting to recreate the rainbow pattern in a temporary, non-destructive way.One of the protesters, Suarez, told local news station WESH 2 that he simply used chalk on the soles of his shoes to walk across the crosswalk. To be threatened with something so extreme as a felony charge for protesting and showing love to your fellow human, its just insane in my opinion, he said.Initially charged with defacing a traffic device, a law typically intended to prevent tampering with electronic signals or hardware, Suarez was released after a judge ruled that there was no probable cause for his arrest. His legal team argued that chalk, being water-soluble and easily washed away, does not constitute vandalism under Florida law.Chalk, Charges, and ContradictionsDespite the non-permanent nature of the protest, FHP moved forward with additional arrests over the weekend. East, Short, and Aparicio were detained after similar chalk demonstrations at the same intersection. Yet none of them will face charges either. At a court hearing Monday, a judge did find probable cause for the arrest of the three remaining protesters, but the state opted not to pursue charges. The reason behind this decision remains unclear, as both the FHP and local prosecutors have declined to comment.Their attorney, Blake Simons, called the arrests a clear case of overreach. I would argue water-soluble chalk that washes away while youre being arrested doesnt amount to over $1,000 worth of damage, he told The Orlando Sentinel. The FDOT estimated that restoring the crosswalk cost around $1,562, a figure that critics say is inflated and being used to justify the crackdown on peaceful protest.A Symbol Removed, A Community MobilizedFor many in the Orlando LGBTQ+ community, the rainbow crosswalk was far more than paint. It was a symbol of visibility, remembrance, and love. Its sudden removal, reportedly executed in the dead of night, has left many feeling erased. My friends died here. Thats it. This is their memorial, said protester Robby Dodd in an interview with Click Orlando. Others at the demonstration noted that police seemed uncertain about the laws they were citing, often backing off when challenged by protesters to explain their authority.Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has supported the removal of rainbow crosswalks, arguing they pose a distraction to drivers. But an analysis by the Orlando Sentinel and other national studies suggests the opposite: decorative crosswalks may actually improve pedestrian safety by drawing more attention to intersections.Ongoing Backlash Against LGBTQ+ VisibilityThe chalk protests and resulting arrests come amid a broader climate of anti-LGBTQ+ policy in Florida. Under DeSantis leadership, the state has enacted sweeping restrictions on trans healthcare, LGBTQ+ discussions in classrooms, drag performances, and inclusive books in school libraries.Advocates argue that the crackdown on public art like the Pulse crosswalk is part of the same agenda, a campaign to sanitize public space of queer presence.Source0 Commentaires 0 Parts 54 Vue 0 Aperçu

APNEWS.COMGoogle avoids breakup in search monopoly case, but judge orders other changes in landmark rulingThe Google logo sits on the company's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., July 19, 2016. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez, File)2025-09-02T20:53:29Z SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A federal judge on Tuesday ordered a major makeover of Googles search engine in a crackdown aimed at curbing the corrosive power of an illegal monopoly, but rebuffed the U.S. governments request to break up the company. The 226-page decision made by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington, D.C., will likely ripple across the technological landscape at a time when the industry is being reshaped by artificial intelligence breakthroughs including conversational answer engines as companies like ChatGPT and Perplexity try to upend Googles long-held position as the internets main gateway.Mehta is trying to rein in Google by placing new restraints on some of the tactics the company deployed to drive traffic to its search engine and other services. But the judge stopped short of banning the multi-billion dollar deals that Google has been making for years to lock in its search engine as the default on smartphones, personal computers and other devices. Those deals, involving payments of more than $26 billion annually, were a focal point of a nearly five-year-old antitrust case brought by the U.S. Justice Department. The judge also rejected the U.S. Justice Departments effort to force Google to sell its popular Chrome browser, concluding the request was a bridge too far.But Mehta is ordering Google to give its current and would-be rivals access to some of its search engines secret sauce the data stockpiled from trillions of queries that helped to continually improve the quality of its search results. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGay bars said he was too drunk to enter. He tried crashing his car into them.A driver slammed through barriers in front of two gay nightclubs in San Jose, California last Thursday night, barely missing dozens of pedestrians just one day before the citys 50th anniversary Pride celebrations. Reporters suspect that the crash may have been vengefully motivated. The driver crashed his white Lexus sedan, exited the vehicle, and then walked towards employees outside of the nearby Splash gay bar, asking if he could enter the establishment, employee Jacqueline Correa told KTVU. Related Cop who crashed his car into gay bar no longer employed by St. Louis Police They told him no, Correa said, because he was visibly intoxicated. He flipped them off, got back into the car.The news station said the driver may have rammed his car through the barriers after the local gay clubs denied him entry. However, authorities say they dont believe that the crash was caused by anti-gay animus. Police are currently investigating the crash as a suspect incident caused by driving under the influence. Ive seen really bad fights. Ive never seen [a car being used as a weapon]. It was really crazy. The crash crumpled the entire front hood of the car and caused broken windows and water to leak from the walls of the building that he crashed into. The vehicles tire marks marred acolorful street mural, which was set to be revealed on Friday, during the official start of the Silicon Valley Pride weekend. Jonathon Esparza, the event coordinator for Splash Bar, told KRON that the crash didnt impede the bars plans for the weekend celebration. While the crash didnt injure any bar goers on the street, the driver and his female passenger were reportedly taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The citys Pride events and parade continued this last weekend, despite a reduction in size due to a 50% loss in funding from fewer donors and sponsorships. The theme for this years event was Unstoppable. Our theme was picked specifically because of how unstoppable our community is. We see the rollback of our rights, gender affirming care being stripped, we see marriage equality being challenged, said Silicon Valley Pride CEO Nicole Denson told KABC.Parade-goer Caitlin Morrison told the news station, Weve always been here.
