Burnley interim boss Michael Jackson would be happy to stay off the bottom and leave his second interim spell of the club with a win after drawing once and losing twice since taking the reins for Scott Parker. Burnley have not won since February 11 at Crystal Palace.Rob Edwards and Wolves are slumping, too, without a win since back-to-back home defeats of Aston Villa and Liverpool at the end of February and early March. They've drawn two of three and moving off the bottom would feel a just reward for their efforts to make the most of a lost season.Burnley vs Wolves predictionThe easy bet is a draw but we do feel there's enough here for both teams to score and a mild upset, as Wolves pull off the bottom of the table. Burnley 1-2 Wolves.

NFL power rankings: Jets are buried despite 2026 draft praise
The New York Jets received plenty of praise for their work at the 2026 NFL Draft. The team ended up with three selections in Round 1 which turned into edge David Bailey, receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and right end Kenyon Sidiq.Even The Ringer praises that hauled... but the outlet still buried the Jets on their latest 2026 NFL offseason power rankings. In lining up each team head-to-head, the Jets were placed in dead last in the league, No. 32 overall. How did The Ringer get there? While there is praise for the Jets' draft, there are questions raised, too. The breakdown can be found below: If we were ranking based only on the results of the 2026 NFL draft, New York wouldn’t be at the bottom. The Jets made a couple of surprising moves, taking edge rusher David Bailey second (instead of edge-linebacker hybrid Arvell Reese); drafting tight end Kenyon Sadiq with the no. 16 pick, a year after selecting Mason Taylor in the top 100; and then trading back up into the first round to get receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at no. 30. Each of these players should be an immediate starter and can contribute to this rebuild, setting up a better landing spot for the next rookie (or veteran) quarterback the Jets add in 2027.But we’re not giving New York points for what might happen in the future. Geno Smith might be an upgrade over Justin Fields at quarterback, but Smith was still one of the five worst starters in the league in 2025, when he was with the Raiders. Aaron Glenn’s defense also added a bunch of aging or underwhelming veterans to an already bad unit, which is an early candidate to be the worst in football. Success for this team would be getting the no. 1 pick in 2027, which makes it deserving of the 32nd spot in these rankings. This article originally appeared on Bills Wire: NFL power rankings: New York Jets are buried despite 2026 draft praise

Bills' Terrel Bernard looks forward to 2026 after 'hardest year' in football
Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard has plenty of reason to look forward to what's ahead in 2026.It's a new NFL season and another chance to chase a Super Bowl. His team has had plenty of changes, too. However, this is all about personal reasons for Bernard. The linebacker and team captain was setback by injury throughout last season as he was held to 11 starts. Those issues included hamstring and ankle injuries which began at training camp. “It was tough,” Bernard admitted. “It was probably my hardest year as a football player."With Buffalo's transition to a new defense led by coordinator Jim Leonhard, the Bills know Bernard can be a valuable assistant in that change. Head coach Joe Brady is lending an understanding hand to Bernard early this offseason as well. “When you’re injured, he had a ‘C’ on his chest and it was deserved. But it’s hard when you’re not out there. And so I think his leadership has strengthened just from that experience," Brady told reporters. For more from Bernard during spring practices, see the attach clip below:Terrel Bernard had offseason ankle surgery that was long overdue after fighting through nagging injuries dating back to 2023.“I’ve grown up a certain way & if I’m able to go, I’m gonna go.”He realizes now that’s not always the right approach. pic.twitter.com/1Wn3VEk4F1— Matt Parrino (@MattParrino) May 20, 2026This article originally appeared on Bills Wire: Bills Terrel Bernard looking forward after 'hardest year' in NFL

Richard Hightower sounds off on Bears' long snapper competition
The Chicago Bears will have several position battles to monitor this summer, but one of the more under-the-radar competitions will come at long snapper following Scott Daly's departure in free agency. The Bears have two young players in first-year pro Luke Elkin and undrafted rookie Beau Gardner vying for the long snapper job. Elkin, an undrafted free agent in 2025, spent last season with Chicago's practice squad, and he has experience playing with punter Tory Taylor at Iowa. Meanwhile, Gardner is coming off six seasons in college and having just won the Patrick Mannelly Award as the nation's top long snapper.Special teams coordinator Richard Hightower previewed the position battle between Elkin and Gardner, which kicks into gear when the pads come on, where speed and accuracy and just two things he'll be evaluating."Those things for sure. Then you have to consider the way they work with the other two players (the kicker and holder) because that's a team," Hightower said, via ChicagoBears.com. "Those three together in operation, you have to make sure that's always flowing smoothly. Then you have to look at the punt piece of it too. That's two guys, the punter and the long snapper. And if they can protect or not. A lot of guys can snap a ball, but not [all of them] can protect. That's often the downfall of long snappers."It's not to feel that Elkin has the upper hand going into this competition given his experience playing with Taylor for three years at Iowa (2021-23), and the pair already have that working relationship down. But Gardner, who was recognized as college football's best long snapper, certainly has a chance to make a strong impression and earn the job.Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and InstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears STC Richard Hightower discusses long snapper competition

Real Madrid bag 20th place on Forbes’ list of most valuable clubs
Real Madrid bag 20th place on Forbes’ list of most valuable clubsIt is no secret that Real Madrid is the biggest institution in world football, and a couple of seasons away from their best does not change that fact one bit.The past two seasons have been rough for Los Blancos as they failed to win any major trophy last season, and followed suit this campaign as well. However, their value as an institution remains almost unperturbed and they continue to rule as the biggest club in world football. The global pictureAs reported by Defensa Central in a recent report, Forbes recently announced a list of the 50 most valuable clubs in the world spanning across all popular sports. Real Madrid have a strong global presence. (Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images)Real Madrid, valued at a handsome $6.75 billion, stand firm in 20th place on that list and is the highest-ranked football team as well. Surprisingly, football does not have great representation on that front. The NBA and the NFL continue to dominate the rankings in terms of the value clubs hold. The Dallas Cowboys are placed first on the list with a staggering valuation of $13 billion while the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants are placed third and fourth at $10.5 billion and $10.1 billion respectively, making the NFL well represented. The NBA, meanwhile, has clubs like the Golden State Warriors placed second with $11 billion and the Los Angeles Lakers in fifth with $10 billion. The football sceneAt $6.75 billion, Real Madrid are the highest valued football club. The second-highest ranked club in the sport, surprisingly, is Manchester United at $6.6 billion.Real Madrid stand clear of their competitors by some margin. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)Barcelona, meanwhile, languish in 44th place at a valuation of $5.65 billion and have fallen steeply from their 20th place ranking in 2024.For Real Madrid, the lack of a trophy in two seasons has indeed come as a blow to their valuation but they continue to go strong owing to big-name signings, massive merchandise sales, and a strong global presence.Hosting the NFL at the Santiago Bernabeu, needless to say, also played a part in growing the value of the club.

(Video) Mo Salah comes within inches of a final-day goal for Liverpool on Anfield farewell
(Video) Mo Salah comes within inches of a final-day goal for Liverpool on Anfield farewellMo Salah came within inches of scoring in the first half of his final Liverpool appearance on Sunday afternoon.Along with Andy Robertson, the Egyptian was named in the Reds’ starting XI against Brentford, with the duo both leaving the club after nine glorious years this summer. The 33-year-old has has his least prolific campaign in a red shirt in 2025/26, but he was unfortunate not to open the scoring in the 19th minute this afternoon.Salah strikes the post from a free kickWhen Liverpool were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai stood over the dead ball, with the Egypt winger ultimately assuming responsibility for the set piece. His left-footed shot curled around the Brentford defensive wall but crashed off the upright, with Caoimhin Kelleher rooted to his goalline, and Ryan Gravenberch slammed the rebound into the Anfield Road Stand.Salah seems determined to get his farewell goalSalah was so unlucky to see his free kick come back out off the post, and during a lively first-half performance he was soon threatening the away side again as he cut inside from the right flank and got a shot off, but former Reds teammate Kelleher was alert to it and made the save. The Egyptian has shipped plenty of criticism over his performances this season during an unusually subdued campaign by his exceptional standards, but his display this afternoon is that of someone who’s determined to go out on a high after nine years at Anfield.Arne Slot will probably substitute him and Robertson in the second half to allow them both to soak up the acclaim from the adoring home faithful, but the head coach would be wise to leave our number 11 on the pitch for as long as possible so that he can crown his farewell with a goal.At the time of writing, there’s still ample time for Salah to do just that and end one of the greatest Liverpool careers of all time on something of a high note. You can view Salah’s 19th-minute free kick below, taken from beIN SPORTS’ match coverage and shared via @Mediateoo on X:

We won major titles – exactly what every player dreams of when wearing the shirt of Real Madrid.”“But difficult moments were also part of this journey. Especially the time of my injury was one of the toughest periods of my entire career. That is why I am even more grateful for the unbelievable support I received from the club, my teammates, and the fans during that time. I will never forget how much everyone helped me return.”The player then wrote in detail about how his time at Real Madrid was off the field and how the people at the club, including the players and the staff, made him feel at home.“But these five years were about much more than football success. I met incredible people here and built friendships that will last a lifetime.”“I will miss the everyday moments in the dressing room – the conversations, the laughter, and all the little things that made this team so special.”Alaba thanked the fans for all the memories. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)Elaborating on what the city of Madrid means to him after spending some wonderful years at the Spanish capital, the player wrote,“Madrid has become a second home for my family and me. This city, this club, and the people here welcomed us with so much warmth from the very first day. That is exactly why this goodbye is so difficult.”“Words cannot truly describe how proud I am to have been part of the history of this club. Wearing this shirt, winning titles, and sharing special moments with the Madridistas mean everything to me.”Finally, Alaba thanked the club for everything, saying,“Thank you for everything. Thank you for this incredible time. Thank you for every single memory.”“Saying goodbye is incredibly hard, but at the same time, I am full of motivation and excitement for the next chapter. I truly hope our paths cross again soon.”“I wish everyone at this club nothing but the very best for the future, and I truly hope that the special relationships and connections I built here will remain for many years to come. Hala Madrid y nada más!” he concluded.

FSU edge target has a commitment time in mind
The FSU Seminoles have one edge rusher committed in their 2027 recruiting class in four-star prospect Anthony Cavallaro, and now they are trying to pair him with some more talented options. One of their targets is T.K. Cunningham, a three-star prospect from Chandler, Arizona. He has an official visit scheduled to Tallahassee for June 6, one of four he will take this summer. He will also see the Purdue Boilermakers (May 30), Kentucky Wildcats (June 13), and Kansas State Jayhawks (June 20). While nothing is set in stone, he recently told Rivals' Brandon Huffman that he would like to commit shortly after his visits.“I haven’t set a date yet but I plan to probably announce a week after all my official visits,” said Cunningham. The Seminoles offered him a scholarship back in May of 2025 and hosted him on a visit in November last year. While he has not visited Tallahassee this year, FSU head coach Mike Norvell and defensive ends coach Nick Williams both visited him.Cunningham is ranked as the No. 808 overall player and No. 68 edge in the Rivals industry ranking. Arthur Géa urgently pleads for bathroom break while feeling ill during French Open first-round match vs. Karen Khachanov
In first-round action at the 2026 French Open on Sunday, Arthur Géa lost his first-round match in straight sets to No. 13 seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6, 6-0. However, if the 21-year-old Frenchman was to be believed, he nearly lost so much more on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. During the first set of his French Open debut, Géa pleaded with the umpire to be allowed a bathroom break. Typically, such breaks are only permitted between sets. But according to Géa, he was feeling sick and had an urgent situation that needed addressing. “I think it’s going to go out, really,” the broadcast recorded Géa telling the umpire. “I cannot wait. It’s not a joke.”"I cannot wait... it's not a joke" 🚽A desperate Arthur Gea pleaded with the umpire for a toilet break during his first round match at Roland-Garros. pic.twitter.com/x9NkKwj9NZ— TNT Sports (@tntsports) May 24, 2026Citing the rules, the umpire said he couldn’t give Géa the time he needed during games of the set. As he continued to protest, Géa made his condition explicitly clear. “I’m gonna s*** on the f***ing court,” he said. “Just explain the situation, please!” The first-round match was played under very hot conditions at Roland Garros, with temperatures reaching 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius).Asked if he was dealing with a medical condition, Géa explained in French that he was experiencing diarrhea. That apparently wasn’t enough to persuade officials to let him leave the court. Khachanov understandably wanted to know why there was a delay, but the set resumed.All-time convo 😭Nature called for Arthur Gea Watch #RolandGarros on TNT Sports pic.twitter.com/AvL701TnH4— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) May 24, 2026After the game was completed, Géa was allowed to use the restroom due to “medical circumstances” and immediately did so. He was also given some medicine to treat what he said was stomach pain. Following the match, Géa said that he wasn’t ill during the Saturday night before his match. However, he began feeling sick when he awoke in the morning. “During the match, it was even worse,” he said, via the Associated Press. “I had to go to the toilet really quick.”Géa, ranked No. 135 in the world, received a wild-card invitation to play in his homeland Grand Slam tournament. He is a native of Velleron, France. Though he did not win his French Open debut, his appearance will likely be memorable for reasons he would surely prefer to forget. With his win, Khachanov advances to face Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti on Wednesday.

Charles Barkley absolutely unloads on ‘poor Wemby’ narrative during Thunder-Spurs series
Charles Barkley absolutely unloads on ‘poor Wemby’ narrative during Thunder-Spurs series originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Charles Barkley has officially had enough of the sympathy being thrown toward Victor Wembanyama during the Western Conference finals. As the San Antonio Spurs continue battling the Oklahoma City Thunder in a brutally physical playoff series, much of the conversation around Wembanyama has centered on whether Oklahoma City is being overly aggressive with the 7-foot-4 superstar.Barkley thinks the entire discussion is ridiculous. And he did not hold back while blasting the growing “poor Wemby” narrative during a recent ESPN postgame appearance.Charles Barkley says NBA fans are getting way too softBarkley’s frustration exploded while discussing complaints about how the Thunder have defended Wembanyama throughout the series.“I think we need to all pray for Wemby cause he can not play too many minutes, they are going to kill him out there,” Barkley said sarcastically. “These people man they are pissing me off. I am watching the whole games, they ain’t playing dirty, these are some of the softest fouls I have ever seen in my life.”He continued unloading on television criticism surrounding Oklahoma City’s physicality.“You got these clowns on TV talking about ‘Oh they’re going to hurt poor Wemby’. It drives me crazy watching these shows.”That blunt reaction instantly grabbed attention because Barkley essentially challenged one of the biggest ongoing talking points of the series.Instead of viewing the Thunder’s defensive approach as dangerous, Barkley sees it as completely normal playoff basketball.Chuck has had enough with this Wemby narrative 😆 pic.twitter.com/Lh1yIBlVsk— NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) May 24, 2026The Thunder have turned Victor Wembanyama’s life difficultTo be fair, Oklahoma City absolutely has made life miserable for Wembanyama at times. The Thunder are not simply assigning one defender and hoping for the best. They are swarming catches, crowding driving lanes, cutting off lob opportunities and constantly forcing San Antonio’s offense into uncomfortable decisions.Even when Wembanyama scores, the process has become exhausting. That is part of what makes this matchup so fascinating. For most of the season, Wembanyama overwhelmed teams with length, mobility and skill that simply felt impossible to counter. But Oklahoma City has shown that elite physicality, layered help defense and relentless pressure can at least slow down portions of San Antonio’s offense. And according to Barkley, none of that should surprise anybody once the playoffs arrive.MORE: Victor Wembanyama is doing something NBA analytics still can’t explainVictor Wembanyama is learning the hardest lesson of NBA superstardomThis series may ultimately become one of the most important developmental moments of Wembanyama’s young career. The playoffs are exposing him to the reality every all-time superstar eventually faces: once opponents fear you enough, every possession becomes a war.Teams stop guarding you normally. They build entire defensive game plans around removing your comfort. They force teammates to beat them instead. That is exactly what Oklahoma City is doing right now.Still, Barkley’s larger point remains important. Wembanyama is not being targeted unfairly. He is being treated like a legitimate championship-level threat. And honestly, that may be the biggest compliment possible for a 22-year-old already carrying this much responsibility for the Spurs.MORE NBA NEWSMike Brown is suddenly one win away from another shot at an NBA championshipLakers named best fit for record-setting $53.8 million starJazz, Hawks, Bulls, Nets named top landing spots for $53 million Lakers superstarLakers predicted to cut ties with Dalton Knecht, acquire $175 million two-time MVP

Tigers 'may have no choice' but to make unfortunate Tarik Skubal trade decision
Tigers 'may have no choice' but to make unfortunate Tarik Skubal trade decision originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Detroit Tigers have not had a good 2026 season by any means. They've struggled this season, and now are 20-32m second-to-last in the American League. With such a rough record and things seemingly not getting any better anytime soon, the Tigers might wind up as sellers at the trade deadline this year.MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, with such fears in mind, noted that the Tigers "may have no choice" but to make an unfortunate, but realistic, trade decision with fan favorite and Cy Young-winning ace Tarik Skubal.Tigers might not have a choice but to trade Tarik Skubal this year"Now that it's becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline," Nightengale writes, "rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but also be willing to give up prized prospects..."With the Tigers' struggles this season, a sell-off at the trade deadline is very much a real possibility. The only question would be to what extent to sell.Obviously, the Tigers aren't going to trade everyone, as they can still be a competitive team in 2027 and 2028 if they make the right moves. But any player on an expiring contract would be someone worth trading away. And unfortunately, that list includes Skubal.MORE: Yankees’ Aaron Judge on track to become first player in MLB history with five 50+ homer seasonsThe back-to-back Cy Young winner, Skubal, is the most sensible player to trade this season for the Tigers if they cannot right this sinking ship in the near future.Even though Skubal is on the injured list, it's hard to imagine some teams not making efforts to acquire Skubal, assuming his medicals check out.Nightengale named the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Diego Padres as the four teams that might inquire about a Skubal trade. All four would make sense, as they'd be willing to part with the ridiculous asking price the Tigers, justifiably, can ask for.Skubal might be on his way out this season, as Nightengale believes the team might not have much of a choice by the deadline but to trade away their Cy Young ace this season.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxDodgers still have a Roki Sasaki problemChase Burns becomes first Reds pitcher with elite stat line since 1922Phillies’ Aidan Miller finally beginning baseball activities amid back injury

Victor Wembanyama hit with Alex Caruso reality check in conference finals and it’s brutal
Victor Wembanyama hit with Alex Caruso reality check in conference finals and it’s brutal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. After Victor Wembanyama put on one of the most spectacular individual performances in Conference Finals history in Game 1, the Oklahoma City Thunder answered back with their bench unit that just keeps getting louder. Especially, a 32-year-old role player who has quietly become Wemby's biggest problem.Game 1 was an absolute cinema. Wembanyama dropped 41 points and 24 rebounds in a double-overtime thriller, joining Wilt Chamberlain in the record books and dragging San Antonio to a 122-115 road win. Then, in Game 2, Wemby finished with 21 points on 16 shots as the Thunder evened the series, 122-113, thanks to 7-footer Isaiah Hartenstein, who successfully kept Wemby on the floor.Game 3 was worse. Wembanyama finished with 26 points, but was held to just four rebounds and three assists. The Spurs got a 15-0 lead to open at home but the Thunder's bench showed their class, helping OKC escape with a convincing 123-108 victory after dropping a franchise-record 76 points from the second unit. That's where Shaquille O'Neal got a bit frustrated as the Lord Supreme of all big men. On “Inside the NBA,” the four-time champion called out Wemby directly, putting the rest of the league on notice about what he's seeing. He said, "Imma need Wemby to do more. Game 1 he had 41/24, they won. Game 2 21/26. It's not enough. I can say that as Lord Supreme of all big men… He has to do more. I heard him say he's not making his teammates better. It's because he's not dominating the game. When Alex Caruso is on you, I don't want to see a turnaround."Shaq calls out Wemby for not doing enough in the Conference Finals 👀“Imma need Wemby to do more. Game 1 he had 41/24, they won. Game 2 21/26. It’s not enough. I can say that as Lord Supreme of all big men…. He has to do more. I heard him say he’s not making his teammates… https://t.co/UP4mUqaYd9pic.twitter.com/Xg8LrJsofw— NBA Courtside (@NBA__Courtside) May 24, 2026San Antonio’s defensive game plan was to have Wembanyama ignore Caruso on the perimeter, sag off him and guard the paint. However, the strategy failed as he punished the strategy, scoring 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting in Game 1.When the Spurs later switched to a zone defense, Caruso routinely found gaps in the coverage, organized the offense, and pulled Wembanyama away from the rim. He scored 17 and 15, respectively, in the next two games of the series.Wembanyama is only 22 and playing in his first conference finals. His long-term potential remains immense, but for now, though, the Thunder have found a way to neutralize him, and an experienced veteran coming off the bench is executing the plan perfectly.More NBA news:Thunder's bench just ripped apart the narrative that had Spurs feeling goodTwo-time NBA All-Star makes bold Spurs vs Knicks Finals prediction after Cavs collapseKnicks’ path to the finals comes with one major warning from Shannon SharpeStephon Castle’s this instant comeback to a hairline comment is pure goldClippers facing questions they can't ignore with James Harden back in focus

Will Seahawks repeat as NFC West champions in 2026?
Will the Seattle Seahawks win the NFC West division again in 2026?The Seahawks captured the division crown last season after going 14-3 on the year. Seattle will be in a three-team battle with the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West crown next season.Seattle’s relentless defense will have its core contributors back in 2026. The Seahawks’ only significant changes come in the run game, with rookie running back Jadarian Price in the offensive backfield in place of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who departed for the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, as well as in the secondary, with safety Coby Bryant and cornerback Tariq Woolen no longer in town.Nevertheless, the Seahawks are poised to string together wins early in the season off of the strength of their defense and gain momentum with the return of RB Zach Charbonnet midway through the year, which will give them more firepower in their run-heavy offense and consequently help them secure more victories against contending teams.A major variable in the division battle will be the return of 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in 2026. Aiyuk was sidelined for all of the 2025 season due to a knee injury that he suffered in 2024.The Niners have the chance to form an elite receiving corp with the two-time 1,000-yard receiver and Mike Evans in 2026, which will turn an already prolific offense that helped San Francisco go 12-5 last season into a significantly greater handful for opposing teams to deal with. San Francisco will also get four-time first-team All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner back healthy after he was limited to only six games played in 2025 due to an ankle injury.Meanwhile, the Rams are an early favorite to win the Super Bowl next season by several oddsmakers. Los Angeles will have one of the best receiving tandems in the NFL next season with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams catching passes from reigning AP NFL MVP Matthew Stafford. Los Angeles has a few games on their schedule that serve as trying matchups for them, but the Rams are in line to have a strong season in 2026.The Seahawks project to finish next season with a 12-5 record, identical to the 49ers, while the Rams finish at 11-6. However, Seattle (4-2) will earn a better record against the NFC West than the Niners (3-3), which will give them the tiebreaker advantage to win the division in 2026.The division will be among the most competitive in the league next season. However, Seattle edges out their foes for the second straight year, giving them a boost in morale for the playoffs. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Seattle Seahawks chances of repeating as NFC West champs

Dodgers Will Smith Offers 3-Word Response On Injury Concerns After Absence

(Robert Gauthier/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesThe Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back from an opening loss in their series to the Milwaukee Brewers with an offensive onslaught on Saturday, offering a signal that they are still the team to beat in the National League. The two teams are essentially neck-and-neck in the National League standings and the Dodgers didn’t just get a boost in that competition with their latest win. The team also received a positive update on three-time All-Star Will Smith.FORBES | By Peter ChawagaBlue Jays’ John Schneider Sends NSFW Message After Snagging Gem From GiantsLos Angeles Dodgers Raise Will Smith Injury Concerns Before Milwaukee Brewers GameAfter missing some time with a lower back issue last month, Smith has been in a prolonged slump at the plate and he was left out of the lineup on Friday for the series opener. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that the backstop could benefit from a reset.“He hasn’t been swinging the bat well for a while now,” Roberts said of Smith after dropping him to the bottom of the batting order earlier this week, according to Dodger Blue’s Sebastian Abdon Ibarra. “I think for me, sliding him down a couple spots… For me, it was just take a little bit of the focus off the offense.”In a positive sign for the Dodgers, though, Smith was back in the lineup on Saturday and he logged a hit, a walk, a run and an RBI. He also offered a clear three-word response on how he is recovering from his injury, as speculation grows about the root cause of his poor offensive performance this season.“I feel good,” Smith said, attempting to dispel any injury concerns, according to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. “That was just a couple days and it went away. I’m 100 percent.”FORBES | By Peter ChawagaPhillies’ Former Pitcher Released By NL Contender After Just 3 GamesLos Angeles Dodgers Star Will Smith Explains StrugglesDodgers fans might be relieved to hear that Smith, who has been a key part of the roster during the team’s consecutive World Series championship runs, feels healthy. But he also detailed a mechanical concern at the plate that he feels explains the poor production.“Honestly, I feel like I’m hitting fastballs hard,” Smith said, after Roberts suggested he wasn’t hitting fastballs as well as he should, per Plunkett. “They’re just hard to right field. Especially line drives in the gap that are getting caught. Overall, I’ve been hitting the ball hard — just to right field. I’m not pulling it and we think that’s a mechanical issue.”Smith added that he’s confident that issue will be resolved soon. In the meantime, Saturday’s win over the Brewers was a reminder of just how dangerous the Dodgers can be when Smith is in the lineup and able to get some momentum going. The team will be looking for that momentum to continue as it looks to capture the National League pennant en route to another championship title. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Once the sun goes down, it's slightly better. Just want to come out there and give our best shot. We have had a tough season," he added. With Rajasthan Royals needing a win to secure the fourth playoff spot, captain Parag said the team would give its best in the must-win contest as they trail Punjab Kings by one point."Would have done the same thing. Penn State in tense Big Ten battle for 4 star Indiana edge rusher
After receiving a vital commitment from three-star defensive lineman Aniti Paiva, the Nittany Lions are yet again in contention for another star defensive player in edge rusher Ifeanya Emedobi. However, they will have to compete with several other Big Ten schools to ensure he will end up in Happy Valley. Right now, the odds are seemingly stacked against them. While Penn State won't be doing battle with perhaps their biggest conference rival, Ohio State, they still have to contend with defending national champion Indiana, which also happens to be Emedobi's home state. Michigan is no slouch in this race either as the current leaders. While they also have a new coach, they may be able to offer a bit more in terms of prestige and most importantly, CFP contention. What's even more of a scary proposition is that while Emedobi has all his official visits lined up for next month, his visit to Happy Valley comes before his visits to the Hoosiers and Wolverines, respectively. That means if Matt Campbell truly wants a player of his caliber, he will have to go all out to impress the Indiana edge rusher.NEWS: Four-Star EDGE Ifeanyi Emedobi is down to Michigan, Penn State, Indiana, and Minnesota, he tells me for @Rivals⁰The 6’2 214 EDGE is ranked as a Top 3 EDGE in Indiana (per Rivals)⁰⁰He’s locked in official visits to each of his finalistshttps://t.co/RMsEZvsko8pic.twitter.com/b0RGa3qF2w— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) May 22, 2026As of right now, Emedobi is the No. 10 recruit in the state of Indiana, making him someone that Curt Cignetti would potentially love to have on the roster as an in-state recruit. After two years of building a roster through the transfer portal, Cignetti could put all his eggs in the Emedobi basket to curry favor with future in-state recruits. Still, Michigan is the early leader in the clubhouse according to 247Sports, with a 60% chance of securing Emedobi's commitment. While the odds may seem bleak for the Nittany Lions, the potential appeal of being a member of one of Penn State's largest recruiting classes and a key centerpiece on a new look defense could sway Emedobi in a tense Big Ten battle. Whether or not it will be enough remains to be seen. This article originally appeared on Nittany Lions Wire: Penn State in tense Big Ten battle for four-star Indiana edge rusher

Ronaldinho to Neymar: Robert Lewandowski has surpassed scoring record of these five Barcelona legends
Ronaldinho to Neymar: Robert Lewandowski has surpassed scoring record of these five Barcelona legendsRobert Lewandowski’s four-year spell at Barcelona came to an end on Saturday as the Catalans fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Valencia. It was a disappointing outing for Barcelona, but Lewandowski’s only goal was a silver lining, as the Pole ended his career entering the top ten club, in Barça’s all-time goalscorers’ list. With 120 goals, Lewandowski has indeed entered a club that includes the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Rivaldo, among others. Here, at Barça Universal, we will take a look at five players Lewandowski has beaten in terms of scoring record at the club.Hristo StoichkovBarcelona’s Bulgarian star in the 90s, Hristo Stoichkov, was a star during his time in Catalonia. He joined from CSKA Sofia in 1990 and soon became one of the defining figures of Johan Cruyff’s legendary ‘Dream Team’. Hristo Stoichkov is a legend in his own right. (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)Across two stints at the club (1990-1995 and 1996-1998), Stoichkov struck up a devastating partnership with Romario and Michael Laudrup, helping Barça to four consecutive La Liga titles between 1991 and 1994, along with the club’s first-ever European Cup in 1992. He won the Ballon d’Or in 1994 after a stellar World Cup campaign with Bulgaria. Known for his ferocious left foot and combative temperament, Stoichkov scored 117 goals in 255 appearances for the Catalans.NeymarThe Brazilian arrived at Camp Nou in 2013 from Santos amid massive fanfare and quickly justified the hype as part of the famed ‘MSN’ trident alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. In four seasons at the club, Neymar lifted two La Liga titles, three Copas del Rey and, most memorably, the Champions League in 2015 – Barcelona’s last European triumph. He scored 105 goals in 186 appearances before his world-record €222 million move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017.Luis EnriqueA Barcelona icon as both a player and a coach, now coaching PSG, Luis Enrique made the bold move from arch-rivals Real Madrid to the Catalans in 1996 and quickly won over the Camp Nou faithful. Versatile enough to operate across midfield and attack, the Asturian was a relentless runner and a reliable finisher, scoring 109 goals in 300 appearances over eight seasons. He won two La Liga titles, two Copas del Rey and the Cup Winners’ Cup as a player. Lucho later returned as manager and led Barça to the historic treble in the 2014-15 season.RonaldinhoThe Brazilian magician’s arrival in 2003 marked the dawn of Barcelona’s modern renaissance.Lewandowski has outscored even Ronaldinho. (Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images)He won two La Liga titles and the 2006 Champions League, while picking up the Ballon d’Or in 2005 and being named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005. Ronaldinho scored 94 goals in 207 appearances and, perhaps most importantly, laid the cultural and footballing foundation upon which the Pep Guardiola era was later built.PedroA product of La Masia, Pedro Rodriguez rose through the ranks to become an unsung hero of Barcelona’s most decorated era. The Tenerife-born forward made his senior debut in 2008 and quickly carved out a role under Pep Guardiola, contributing to the historic sextuple in 2009. In seven seasons at the club, Pedro lifted five La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies and a host of other honours, scoring 99 goals in 321 appearances.

‘The stoppage was early’: Eddie Hearn reacts to Usyk vs Rico ending
CAIRO, EGYPT - MAY 23: Rico Verhoeven dejected after his loss against Oleksandr Usyk in their WBC World Heavyweight Title during the Glory in Giza - Fight Night at The Pyramids Of Giza, on May 23, 2026 in Cairo, Egypt. (Photo by Mark Robinson/Getty Images). | Getty Images Like many, Eddie Hearn believes that Rico Verhoeven should have gotten the chance to continue in yesterday’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk.Verhoeven was stopped right at the end of the 11th round after a knockdown and a further flurry from Usyk. Verhoeven has said he wishes he’d had the chance to either recover in the 12th round or at least go out on his shield, and Hearn says the same.“I thought Rico Verhoeven was incredible last night,” Hearn wrote on social media. “His concentration, belief, and IQ unbelievable for basically a debutant. Shout out Peter Fury for the game plan! Usyk struggled with the rhythm but stayed with it and somehow found a way, when the greatest upset in boxing history was looming.”Judges had the fight even on two cards after 10 rounds, with Rico up on the third. Had the 11th ended, one card would have been even, and two would have had Usyk a bit ahead. Like many others watching, though, Hearn thought Rico had deserved a lead when the fight was stopped.“I had Rico a couple of rounds up going into the 11th. Usyk did what champions do, but for me, the stoppage was early. The bell had basically gone and Rico was defending and knew exactly where he was. I do think Usyk would have got a clearer stoppage in the 12th or edged out a decision, but us and definitely Rico deserved the chance to let it unfold.“That was fascinating and well done, men. Two really great guys and the work ethic, mindset, and despire is inspiring.”

Gary Neville ‘furious’ after Tottenham v Everton second half delayed: ‘It’s not good enough’
Gary Neville was left “furious” after the second half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton was delayed on the final day of the Premier League season. In a vital match for the relegation battle, with Spurs battling to stay in the league in place of West Ham, who played Leeds United, the second half started more than five minutes later than the London Stadium. Technical difficulties with the VAR equipment ensured both games could not synchronise the start times for the second halves, with Neville upset on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports. An irritated Neville remarked: “Why have they kicked off there if they're synchronising it? I don't think a football match should be stopped for this.“This is not good enough, I get you have technical problems. The fans are booing, and rightly so. I'm furious with this, not just because it's the last game of the season, sporting integrity.“There's an element of always kicking off together when you're fighting for something. It's absolutely ridiculous, it's a warm day today, but it could be Winter and -2 with players walking around. It's not good enough.”Spurs had taken the lead, thanks to João Palhinha, though Roberto De Zerbi’s side only required a point on the final day to stay up. The Hammers were held by Leeds at the break in the other game tied to the relegation battle, with the action resuming at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium almost five minutes late.

Golden State Warriors 2025-26 player grades: Charles Bassey
Charles Bassey had a hectic 2025-26 season to say the least, as the fifth-year center played games for four different NBA teams, including the Golden State Warriors. After appearing in five games with the Boston Celtics on two 10-day contracts, the Warriors brought him in for the final four games of the regular season and the NBA Play-In Tournament. To finish the year, Bassey looked like a solid rotation piece, averaging 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks on 67.7% shooting from the field. That said, despite his solid play, he wasn't able to affect the Warriors' push for the postseason, playing zero minutes in the Play-In Tournament against the Clippers and one minute of garbage time against the Suns. Although Bassey didn't have the biggest opportunity to make an impact, he was impressive when on the floor. Looking ahead to next year, Bassey will be an unrestricted free agent.Overall grade: AThis article originally appeared on Warriors Wire: Warriors 2025-26 player grades: Charles Bassey

MLB insider reveals firm Mike Trout trade update for Angels
MLB insider reveals firm Mike Trout trade update for Angels originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Los Angeles Angels are likely to be one of the clearest sellers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline among all teams around baseball. They are sporting the worst record in the league and are far from being a contender for the postseason, let alone the World Series. Selling is an obvious outcome this year for the Angels, but most of the questions, of course, will be about Mike Trout.MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today revealed a significant trade update on Trout that should finally clear the air on whether Trout is actually available for trade this season or not.MLB insider reveals what should be the final Mike Trout trade update for Angels"No, Trout will not be traded," Nightengale writes. "He has zero interest in waiving his no-trade clause. The reality is that with about $160 million remaining on his contract through 2030, no team would even touch him unless the Angels ate nearly three-quarters of the contract. And that's not happening."While there surely would be plenty of fanbases that dream about their team acquiring Mike Trout at the 2026 trade deadline, like the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees, the odds of a trade are essentially zero.Unlike most players, Trout has a full no-trade clause, meaning the only way he could be traded is if he accepted an offer to head to another team.MORE: Ex-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successAnd Nightengale is reporting that Trout has no such intention, meaning that any trade inquiries on Trout are dead on arrival.Teams seeking a right-handed slugger like Trout will have to look elsewhere, as the Angels veteran and future Hall of Famer looks more likely to finish his career with the Angels on his $26.5 million deal in 2030 than he is to head elsewhere. At 34 years old, Trout is having a resurgent 2026 season, as he has 13 homers with 2.2 bWAR and an .896 OPS. It might not be as good as his prime, but it's more than enough to be considered an All-Star, which he hasn't done since 2023.And as much as teams would love to acquire Trout now that he's playing better, this update from Nightengale effectively confirms that Trout is going nowhere now or in the future.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxDodgers still have a Roki Sasaki problemChase Burns becomes first Reds pitcher with elite stat line since 1922Yankees’ Aaron Judge on track to become first player in MLB history with five 50+ homer seasons

Michael Carrick confirms why another Red is absent along with Casemiro vs Brighton after summer exit agreement
Michael Carrick confirms why another Red is absent along with Casemiro vs Brighton after summer exit agreementDiogo Dalot has missed Manchester United’s final game of the campaign through injury. The full-back was replaced by Noussair Mazraoui in the starting XI for today’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion, meaning his focus is now fully on a swift recovery ahead of Portugal’s World Cup opener on June 17.29 of Dalot’s 34 Premier League appearances this term have come as a starter, so he’ll be feeling aggrieved to have had to sit out this afternoon, especially with the Reds currently cruising to a comfortable victory at 3-0.It’s already been confirmed that the defender has been included in Roberto Martinez’s Portugal squad, where he’ll link up with his club skipper Bruno Fernandes, who enters the tournament in world-class form after setting his own PL assist record.Reports in recent weeks have seen Dalot heavily linked with a shock switch to Real Madrid, primarily due to the impending arrival of new head coach Jose Mourinho. Mourinho signed the Braga native back in 2018 in a £19 million deal from Porto, and has seemingly set his sights on a reunion at the Santiago Bernabeu.Long-serving right-back Dani Carvajal has bid farewell to Los Blancos before his contract expires at the end of June, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has also failed to impress in his maiden season, hence the new links to DalotWhen pressed on why the 27-year-old had been left out of his side, Michael Carrick told reporters at the Amex: “He’s absolutely fine. Just rotation and getting the younger players into the squad.“He’s been fantastic and played a lot of games. He’ll be with Portugal next week, so there are no worries.”Elsewhere, Casemiro has also been omitted on the final day.He reached an agreement with United to be dropped for the fixture in order to begin his World Cup preparations early, as well as finalise an imminent switch to Inter Miami.More Stories / Latest NewsMichael Carrick confirms why another Red is absent along with Casemiro vs Brighton after summer exit agreement May 24 2026, 17:45Man Utd star hits career-first milestone vs Brighton as INEOS mull over his summer replacement May 24 2026, 16:31Former Liverpool utility man emerges as Manchester United target, enquiry made May 24 2026, 10:30

Tottenham survives relegation with crucial win vs. Everton
Tottenham Hotspur has survived relegation from the Premier League, beating Everton 1-0 on Sunday. The Spurs entered the day sitting 17th in the table and had two scenarios that could lead to relegation. If Tottenham had lost to Everton and West Ham had beaten Leeds United, Tottenham would have been relegated. The other scenario involved Tottenham and Everton ending in a draw, and the Spurs would have then been relegated if West Ham beat Leeds United by 12 goals. Instead, Tottenham avoided getting relegated for the first time in the Premier League era, which began in 1992. In fact, the last time the Spurs were not in the top English football league was in 1977. They went down to the second tier for only one season and then were promoted back.Tottenham scored a first-half goal with João Palhinha sneaking a shot past Jordan Pickford that just barely crossed the goal line. 🚨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 JOAO PALHINHA OPENS THE SCORING FOR TOTTENHAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Tottenham 1-0 Everton.pic.twitter.com/YLtkdI5J8R— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) May 24, 2026It was all the Spurs needed as they held on for the 1-0 victory. West Ham United needed to win for Tottenham to have a chance of relegation, and they did so 3-0 over Leeds. Tottenham came extremely close to relegation, avoiding it only by not losing their game. With Tottenham avoiding relegation, the three teams going down to the Championship after this season will be West Ham United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Spurs finish the 2025-2026 season with a 10-11-17 record over 38 games. Tottenham’s 10 wins are the fewest the team has had in a season since 1935. That year, the Spurs ended 10-10-22 and were relegated to Division 2. It took Tottenham eight seasons to return to Division 1 in 1950.

Guardiola goodbye spoiled by Man City loss to Aston Villa
Pep Guardiola took charge of Manchester City for the final time on Sunday (Darren Staples)Pep Guardiola bid an emotional farewell to Manchester City as a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday brought down the curtain on a glittering decade under the Catalan. The 55-year-old announced Friday that he is set to depart after winning 20 trophies in 10 seasons that made City the dominant force of English football.Guardiola made his entrance to a rousing reception alongside a giant banner bearing his face and the message "Game changer. History maker. City forever."Catalan flags were unfurled behind one goal, while at the other end the newly named and expanded Pep Guardiola Stand was in operation for the first time. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss won six Premier League titles and City's only Champions League among his haul of 17 major pieces of silverware.Bernardo Silva and John Stones were part of the squads that won all of those trophies and were also given a fitting send-off in their final game for the club after a combined 19 seasons of service.Silva was in tears even before kick-off as he led City out as captain for the day.But there was little on the line for both sides on the field.City fell short in their quest to chase down Arsenal at the top of the table as a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday saw the Gunners crowned champions.Villa were still in celebratory mood after winning their first trophy for 30 years on Wednesday by claiming the Europa League. But victory for Unai Emery's men did ensure they finished in fourth ahead of Liverpool.Guardiola made nine changes from the side that started at Bournemouth with Erling Haaland among those to not even make the bench.Antoine Semenyo was one of the few City regulars to start and he put the home side in front with a clever finish from a corner.Decked in a resplendent white t-shirt and khaki trousers for the uncharacteristically searing temperates in England's north-west, Guardiola remained an animated figure on the touchline despite the dead rubber nature of the contest. However, he suffered a rare home defeat after Ollie Watkins struck twice in the second half to further justify his inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup.Watkins pounced on a poor header by England team-mate Stones to prod home from a corner. Both sides then stopped to make a guard of honour for Silva as he was substituted, prompting more tears from the Portugal international and Guardiola.Villa took advantage as City struggled to compose themselves moments later, Watkins surging clear and producing a classy finish for his 21st goal of the season. The testimonial nature of the afternoon continued as play was stopped once more for Stones to this time receive a guard of honour and appreciation from the City support.City thought they had salvaged at least a point when Phil Foden crashed in off the underside of the crossbar. But a controversial VAR review deemed Foden was offside despite inconclusive evidence.kca/mw

Premier League final day: Who has qualified for Europe?
The final day of the Premier League season delivered twists and turns and now the qualification places for next season’s European competitions has been confirmed. Premier League winners Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United had already sealed their places in next season’s Champions League, with Aston Villa’s victory in the Europa League final on Wednesday securing their qualification too. Unai Emery’s side then defeated City on Pep Guardiola’s send-off match at the Etihad to finish fourth ahead of Liverpool, who themselves waved farewell to club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson but were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford. Those results had huge implications for one club: with sixth-placed Bournemouth qualifying for the Europa League after the door to the Champions League was closed off to them. They will be joined in the Europa League by Sunderland, with Brighton going into the Conference League. And there could be one more English team in next season’s European competitions to come: if Crystal Palace beat Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on Wednesday, they will qualify for the league phase of the Europa League. Champions LeagueQualified: Arsenal (1st), Manchester City (2nd), Manchester United (3rd), Aston Villa (4th and Europa League winners), Liverpool (5th) For six teams to qualify for the Champions League, Aston Villa had to win the Europa League AND finish fifth. Unai Emery’s team did the first part of that by beating Freiburg, but ensured they finished fourth by beating Manchester City. Ollie Watkins’ double spoiled Pep Guardiola’s send-off at the Etihad. Liverpool, meanwhile, had to settle for fifth after finishing their season with a 1-1 draw against Brentford at Anfield. Europa LeagueQualified: Bournemouth (6th), Sunderland (7th)Two remarkable stories here: Bournemouth qualify for European football for the first time in their history, while Sunderland, promoted last season, return to Europe for the first time in 53 years. Bournemouth sold up to £200m of first-team stars last summer, then lost Antoine Semenyo in January. But Andoni Iraola has managed a sensational job at the Cherries, who have been unbeaten in the Premier League since early January. Remarkably, he is now set to leave the club, so Bournemouth will be looking for a new manager for their European campaign. And how about Sunderland? Down in League One as recently as 2021-22, the Black Cats finish a remarkable seventh in their first season back in the Premier League under Regis Le Bris. Starting the day in 10th, Sunderland jumped three places with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light, knocking the Blues out of the race for Europe in the process. Not since 1973-74 have Sunderland competed in Europe, where they entered the Cup Winners’ Cup. Conference LeagueQualified: Brighton (8th)The Seagulls could have qualified for the Europa League with a win over Manchester United but record-breaking Bruno Fernandes inspired the visitors to a final-day win on the south coast. But Brighton will get a second taste of European football, having reached the last-16 of the Europa League in 2023-24. As Crystal Palace have proved this season, Brighton may start next season’s Conference League as the favourites to go all the way. Brentford won at Liverpool to finish with the same record as Brighton (W 14, D 11, L 13) but they missed out on goal difference (+6 to +3). Chelsea’s defeat at Sunderland means Xabi Alonso will have no European football to contend with next season in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge. And, as outlined above, if Crystal Palace beat Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on Wednesday, they will qualify for the league phase of the Europa League as well.

CONFIRMED: Chelsea miss out on European football after 10th place Premier League finish
CONFIRMED: Chelsea miss out on European football after 10th place Premier League finishChelsea are not going to be playing in Europe after an utterly embarrassing season in the Premier League finished with them in 10th.If you enjoy Chelsea News coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.Chelsea’s game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light is over, with the Blues losing 2-1.With 3 wins since the start of February, it’s been a total second half of the season collapse, and in the end they’ve finished in 10th place. That means no Champions League, no Europe League, no Conference League. There will be no European football at all at Stamford Bridge next season.Chelsea embarrass themselves again with another defeatThe argument is that this gives Xabi Alonso more time to work next season, and there is truth to that. With no midweek European games, the expectations in the league rise even higher. But there are downsides too. It means less money coming in, less attraction for new players, and fewer minutes to give out to youngsters – which was the only positive of our Conference League campaign. Can there be any complaints? This team don’t deserve to be in Europe. It would have been a crime to take a place off teams like Brentford or Sunderland who have done so much more with so much less.In other news…Chelsea did get a goal back through Cole Palmer, but the red card which followed soon after meant it was too little, too late.Reece James has been speaking about the influence Cesar Azpilicueta had on him as a player over the years after the Spaniard’s retirement.DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CHELSEA NEWS APP FOR ALL THE LATEST UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! Anthony Edwards responds to criticism for congratulating Spurs during Game 6 of playoff series: 'That’s why I’m me'
Anthony Edwards raised many eyebrows when he went to the San Antonio Spurs’ huddle with eight minutes remaining in Game 6 of their second-round playoff series with the Minnesota Timberwolves to congratulate them for winning. Conceding defeat with the majority of the fourth quarter to be played — and the Timberwolves facing elimination — was perceived as unusual. Yet Edwards disagreed with the criticism directed his way. “I feel like everybody’s just got their own opinion,” Edwards said in a video on his YouTube channel. “There’s eight minutes left in the game, but we’re not going back in the game. When you win a playoff series, everybody is celebrating at the end of the game, so they’re going to be smiling, while I’m pissed off that we just lost.”Anthony Edwards went to the Spurs' bench to congratulate them on winning the series with 8 minutes to go.pic.twitter.com/5HLhHi9GmB— Underdog NBA (@UnderdogNBA) May 16, 2026During a timeout called with the Spurs leading 128-95, Edwards exchanged handshakes and hugs with the San Antonio players and coaches. While it was a nice display of sportsmanship, that sort of gesture is usually reserved for after the game. Following the game, Amazon Prime NBA analysts Dirk Nowitzki, Blake Griffin and Udonis Haslem said they’d never seen that done before under such circumstances. “As great as Ant is, as a basketball player, there’s still some growth for him, as well,” Haslem said. “As a leader, I would not have walked down there and shook their hands.” "As a leader I would not have walked down there and shook their hands ... with 8 mins left."UD on Anthony Edwards shaking the Spurs' hands in the middle of the fourth quarter. pic.twitter.com/1BjxFjmqUx— NBA on Prime (@NBAonPrime) May 16, 2026Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentEdwards said that he didn’t want to wait until the game was over so he could avoid watching the Spurs celebrate the series win on the Timberwolves’ home court. “I didn’t want to dap them up at all, but then what would they be saying about me? It would have been a whole other conversation,” he added. “I gave them the respect they deserve. I could’ve waited until the end of the game, that’s some people’s perspective, but I did what I did. That’s why I’m me and y’all are whoever y’all are.”Despite sustaining a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee during Minnesota’s first-round series versus the Denver Nuggets, Edwards played in all six games against the Spurs. He averaged 23.7 points, scoring 32 in Game 3 and 36 in Game 4, while shooting 47% from the floor. Edwards went on to say that he and the Timberwolves will challenge the Spurs again next season.“I tip my cap to them. They came out and balled,” he said. “But we’ll be back. Y’all won, y’all beat us, but that s*** won’t last forever.”

From amateurs to SWPL champions - how Olid transformed Hearts
When an unknown Eva Olid arrived in Edinburgh back in 2021, Hearts had just finished bottom of the SWPL, only avoiding relegation because of the league's expansion to 10 teams. To say she's transformed the club in the last five years is a colossal understatement.Back-to-back fourth place finishes as the club became semi-professional for the 2022-23 season was a sign of things to come, but this - a first league title, which brings with it a maiden run out in European football, is beyond anyone in maroon's wildest dreams. Just over six weeks ago - days after moving to the top of the table by beating Glasgow City for the first time - the Spaniard announced she would be leaving at the end of this season. The hole she leaves at Hearts is humongous, but what a leaving present she has delivered.Hearts win first SWPL title despite loss at HibsRouted Rangers miss out on title as City hit six'I've dedicated my life to this club for five years'When unveiled as the replacement for Andy Kirk - who became boss at Highland League side Brechin City - then-sporting director Joe Savage said Olid's application "instantly stood out".Information on the web was, and still is, scarce - her Wikipedia page has nothing pre-Hearts - but her work in her homeland and in the United States with Houston Dynamo impressed the powers that be in Gorgie.Savage said it was "an exciting appointment" and the club were getting "a top operator". Both statements have stood the test of her tenure."I've dedicated my life to this club for five years," the league-winning manager - who took Hearts to their first and still only Scottish Cup final two years ago - told BBC Scotland. "No personal life, no social life, no days off, no holidays, just fighting for this team."And sometimes I had moments where I thought, 'is this worth it?' Living my life for them."But now I think this is a clear example that it was worth it, living my life for this team. We've had our reward."'We joked about winning the league'As recently as the split, just nine weeks ago, that reward seemed unlikely. Through no disrespect to Hearts, but because of the lead Glasgow City, Rangers and Celtic all had, clubs with vastly superior budgets and pressure to deliver. The latter two components have been continually referred to by Olid and her players during this run-in.Following their 2-1 win at eventual runners-up Rangers on 24 April, the Hearts head coach piled the pressure on her opponents; "Nobody says we have to win the league; they have to win it because they are Rangers and they are used to winning trophies more than us, we've never won a trophy."But a phenomenal post-split run, where they only suffered defeat - twice - to city rivals Hibernian, has delivered this sweet maiden success.Hearts were fourth and trailed Glasgow City by six points before the split [BBC]Player of the season, Georgia Timms, said the lack of expectation has been a huge boost for the group who "jokingly" spoke about going all the way."We didn't put any pressure on ourselves, and I think each game, we just believed more and more," the 19-league-goal striker said."One of the biggest turning points for myself was when we won 3-2 against Rangers. "I think it was a bit of an eye-opener, like, we can compete, and then beating City for the first time, that was an extra bit like 'we can do this'."We've talked about winning it, jokingly, really but we're the underdogs."Not having that pressure has obviously helped us so much. Next season will be a bit more pressure, but I think we'll be fine. We know what we need to do."'A rollercoaster that finished on the ultimate high'Tonight won't be the night for thinking about next season. Not for the players, anyway. But things will look very different without Olid in charge. She announced she would be leaving weeks ago in an act of "transparency" and confirmed their would be no U-turn despite their victory.Very matter-of-factly, she said: "I believe in the destiny, and I think things happen for a reason, so no, I stay with that."An incredible loss for the club, it leaves the mind boggling even more when the Spaniard said she "wanted to stay".Cuts to the team's budget had long been rumoured and Olid hinted she wouldn't be getting the backing to compete and contest the title next season. It's a sad end to a superb stint in Scotland for Olid who will not be short of suitors or supporters. Her players gate-crashed two of her post-match interviews where the spirit, togetherness and love was evident between both parties."It's been a rollercoaster," Olid concluded, "but we've finished on the ultimate high."
