SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColorado football offers LSU commit, five-star 2027 edge Jaiden BryantColorado football extended an offer to 2027 five-star edge Jaiden Bryant, a current LSU commit and Columbia, South Carolina native.Bryant holds 23 offers, with nearly all of them from high-profile schools including Miami, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Michigan and Georgia.247Sports Composite ranks Bryant as the No. 20 overall prospect, No. 2 edge rusher and the top player from South Carolina. The Columbia native has been committed to LSU since January 3, coming off his defensive player of the year season as a junior. Bryant finished the year with 79 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, six fumble recoveries and an interception.Perhaps the most interesting development surrounding Colorado's offer to Bryant is his relationship with recent CU commit Jaiden Kelly-Murray. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAndy Roddick on Serena Williams’ rumoured comeback: ‘Lightning in a bottle’Andy Roddick has suggested that Serena Williams’s rumoured comeback could go beyond a reported doubles outing at Queen’s this month.Williams, 44, is said to have asked for a wildcard entry at Queen’s to play alongside 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko, perThe Telegraph. The news comes four years after Williams last played professionally, when she lost a third-round match at the US Open. The American, widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, re-entered the tour’s drug-testing pool last August, as speculation grew around a potential comeback from the former world No 1, who holds 23 grand-slam singles titles – the most of any women’s player in the Open Era.Andy Roddick (left) and Serena Williams pictured together in 2011 (Getty)And that comeback could take place on the grass of Queen’s Club in London, where the Wimbledon warm-up tournament begins on 8 June.Speaking on his podcast on Wednesday, former major champion Roddick said: “I don’t think as soon as you re-enter doping protocols [...] Maybe you don’t know if you’re coming back or not, but at the very least you’re thinking really hard about it.“And I know this isn’t a pragmatic decision; I’m sure there’s emotion. I’m sure there’s the champion’s mentality, ego, and like ‘what if’, and all of this stuff. If you enter doping protocols, you’re looking to come back, or at least you’re looking at the option to come back.“If you do that and you’re Serena Williams, I’ve got to think: is she going to be faster than when she left? I don’t know. I mean, she looks in fantastic shape. And I think you could say her best chance of lightning in a bottle in this comeback is that it’s on grass at Wimbledon.“I think we’re going to see her play singles. And I do think the only thing that is a little bit of a doubles-motivated thing, as her sister [Venus] is also not retired yet... Would you do it for your sister, for one last run at the US Open or something like that? Yes, and I said that eight months ago. So, that’s the only caveat.“I don’t think she plays only doubles at Wimbledon. I think she’s going to play singles, but I think there’s a half a chance she plays singles before that.“I just don’t see, at this point in her life where she’s in her 40s coming back... How many shots in the basket are you going to have on your best surface in singles again, if that’s your intent? I don’t think she can skip Wimbledon this year in singles. I think if you’re going to come back, I think you got to go.Williams’s last pro outing was a US Open third-round defeat in 2022 (Getty)“At this point, I’d be more surprised if she didn’t come back just to put a bow on it. I think we’re going to see her play professional tennis. I will put it in my veins. I want Serena back on the tennis court. That would be unbelievable. I hope it happens!”Williams is a seven-time singles champion at Wimbledon, where she is also a six-time doubles winner. Indeed, Williams was incredibly successful at all four slams in both the singles and doubles. At the Australian Open, she secured seven singles crowns and four in the doubles; she won the French Open singles three times and the doubles twice; and she is a six-time US Open singles winner, with two doubles titles to boot. Many of her doubles titles were won with her sister Venus, a fellow great of the sport.Furthermore, she won the mixed-doubles at Wimbledon and the US Open in 1998.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAdam Silver: 'There should be a penalty for performing poorly'There have been concerns that teams that genuinely struggle and finish with bottom-three records, without tanking, now have lower odds of improving. Silver considers it fair punishment for losing, similar to the competitive structures used in European soccer. In those leagues, the bottom-three teams in the end-of-year standings get relegated to lower leagues and face significant financial pitfalls as a result. “There should be a penalty for performing poorly,” the commissioner said. “In real relegation, you’re actually out of the major league. Here, if you’re the worst-performing team in the NBA, you still get your same economic share of national and global television revenue. You still get your same share of national and global merchandising revenue.”New York TimesThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: Adam Silver: 'There should be a penalty for performing poorly'0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas -

Players are taught to sell calls these days.” Silver agreed the league is “always working on that,” in reference to officiating improving, but he doesn’t see it as a pressing issue and called the league’s officiating “incredible.”New York TimesThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: “Even as I sit in the stands at games, players may be …0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe reason why he was not penalized for skipping media …NBA insider Chris Haynes explained why the league decided not to punish the Spurs superstar despite missing his required media availability. "I was told that the league contacted Wemby and gave him a warning and said that moving forward they will have to get him fined marginally for skipping out on media, but the reason why he was not penalized for skipping media after last night's games is that he was just, he was voted by the Pro Basketball Writers Association for being one of the most accommodating players to media, like being someone who comes, speaks, he's forthcoming with that," he said. "This is a one-time situation. Yeah, he's only human. One-time situation where he did this, so they let him off the hook this time. So moving forward, they told him,if you do this again, they will have to, to fine him."BasketNewsThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: The reason why he was not penalized for skipping media …0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCowboys rushing success broken down by personnel package reveals hard truthThe Dallas Cowboys’ running game saw a resurgence last season. The Cowboys jumped from 27th into the Top 10 in just a year's time. After posting a paltry -0.067 EPA/rush with Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott a season prior (26th in the NFL), Dallas catapulted to a -0.008 EPA/rush behind resurgent Javonte Williams in 2025.As numbers typically show, a running back's success is more about the team around him than the rusher himself, so it makes sense to dive into what worked and what didn’t. A look at specific personnel groups and how the running game faired behind them is in order, hopefully helping determine what needs to improve in 2026.Personnel groups speak to the number of receivers, running backs and tight ends on the field with two digits. The first number represents the number of backs, the second number represents the tight ends, and the number of receivers is deductively implied. 11 personnel means one running back and one tight end are on the field together which implies three receivers. As the NFL’s most popular personnel package, 11 was used by the Cowboys 66.43% of the time. According to Sumer Sports, Dallas ranked No. 2 in EPA using 11 personnel last season.12 personnel means one running back and two tight ends are on the field, which implies two receivers. The Cowboys ranked No. 13 using this group, understandably using it less often than league average. 21 personnel means two running backs and one tight end are on the field, implying two receivers again. The Cowboys finished No. 3 in EPA using this group and deployed it slightly above league average.22 personnel means two running backs and two tight ends are on the field, leaving room for only one receiver. Like 21, the Cowboys use this grouping more than league average. It’s understandable given the presence of Hunter Luepke, Dallas’s fullback. Not all teams employ fullbacks, so Luepke’s existence gives the Cowboys the desired pieces to go heavy at running back. Sadly, Dallas didn’t do so well here, ranking No. 25 in EPA/play in 22 personnel. Finally, 13 personnel says one running back and three tight ends are on the field. Like 12 personnel, the Cowboys deployed this below league average. Similar to 12 personnel, Dallas declined a bit, ranking 12th in the NFL in EPA/play in this grouping.Javonte Williams goes 30 yards... touchdown!NYGvsDAL on FOX/FOX Onehttps://t.co/HkKw7uXVntpic.twitter.com/KSwB0wDIjm— NFL (@NFL) September 14, 2025What might surprise Cowboys fans is where the running game was at its best and where they were at their worst. One would expect them to find success when they bulk up in personnel and dedicate themselves to the run, but the data show it’s actually quite the opposite. When deploying an extra running back and extra tight end in the 22 personnel group, the Cowboys average a team-worst, -0.29 EPA/rush. The Cowboys find their most success rushing the ball when they keep that second tight end on the sideline and just roll out the extra running back in 21 personnel. Here the Cowboys average -0.008 EPA/rush.One might notice, both the best and worst personnel groups are negative EPA, indicating rushing the ball might not be all it's cracked up to be. But there’s a major difference in the numbers and just because an EPA is ever-so-slightly negative, doesn’t mean it doesn’t hold value. The takeaway today is their tight end group has not been pulling their weight in the ground game. The Cowboys’ worst rushing numbers came when two tight ends were on the field last season and that simply cannot happen again. You can follow Reid on X @ReidDHanson and be sure to follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans! This article originally appeared on Cowboys Wire: Cowboys’ efficiency drops when 2 TEs on the field, cause for concern?0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL analyst delivers reality check to hopeful Panthers fansSince hitting rock bottom in 2023, the Carolina Panthers have been raising their game and improving their roster. A lot of fans may be ready to set high expectations for this team going into 2026, but they shouldn't get ahead of themselves.Digging out of a hole as deep as Carolina was in a few years ago requires a lot of hard work on the part of the front office, and a great deal of improvement from the key players on the roster. And we saw that in 2025, where they captured their first NFC South title in a decade.Does that, however, already make them a real challenger for the Lombardi Trophy?Mike Sando at The Athletic doesn't seem to think so.Although he did give them some props for their signings of linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd, Sando delivers a little reality check for the Panthers faithful:The Panthers dove headfirst into free agency by spending $30 million per year for edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and $14 million annually for linebacker Devin Lloyd. That type of financial investment often signals a win-now mentality, but Phillips (age 26) and Lloyd (27) should be in Carolina for years to come. That makes sense for a team that won its division with an 8-9 record but probably isn’t a true contender right now.The truth hurts, but it's better to be realistic about where your team stands than going all in with a roster that's only set up to win a weak division where they finished in a three-way tie and made the playoffs on a technicality. For the Panthers to compete with the class of a stacked conference, they'll have to tie up a few remaining loose ends. They could use a little more firepower on offense, some improvements along the front seven and another big step forward from quarterback Bryce Young.Until then, they might still be scrapping themselves out of a lowly NFC South.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: NFL analyst delivers reality check to hopeful Panthers fans0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed Murdock aims to make the most of his opportunity with BroncosThe Denver Broncos added a high-upside prospect with the final pick in the 2026 NFL draft last month. Denver used their "Mr. Irrelevant" selection to draft Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock, who holds an NCAA record with 17 career forced fumbles. After being picked by the Broncos, Murdock was asked during a conference call to describe himself as a player and as a linebacker. “I’m a team-first guy, but as a linebacker, I prepare as a quarterback on the defense and getting everyone on the same page," Murdock said. "Make sure our defense performs as one, and that is what I’m looking forward to bringing to the Broncos team as a player that is going to put the team success before all else in any instance.”As a seventh-round pick, Murdock won't be a lock to make the 53-man roster, but he'll aim to make the most of his opportunity this summer. Murdock will be competing for a backup linebacker spot and special teams role. “I feel extremely grateful and excited to be able to go out there for the Broncos," Murdock said, "... the main thing is I have to make the most out of it and help us win.”Following rookie minicamp earlier this month, Murdock will return to the team's facility for the start of organized team activities (OTAs) next week. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDodo and Giay on Roma’s shortlist as Wesley back-upsDodo and Giay on Roma’s shortlist as Wesley back-upsRoma is considering the acquisition of a winger who can serve as an alternative to Wesley and provide greater offensive depth and dynamism. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have two key players on their radar: Fiorentina’s Dodo and Palmeiras’ Giay, both valued at around €15 million. The choice between the two will be crucial in building a balanced winger ready to compete in both Serie A and the Champions League. Roma’s focus on Dodo and Giay demonstrates the club’s clear objective: to find a modern, versatile winger ready to immediately integrate into Gasperini’s tactical plan. The final decision will take into account technical evaluation, costs, and the player’s ability to adapt to Italian football, with the aim of completing the full-back roster as quickly as possible while still ensuring reliability and speed.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAmon-Ra St. Brown Issues Warning to Rest of NFLThe Detroit Lions may still be months away from the regular season, but Amon-Ra St. Brown already sounds like a player preparing for something personal. And honestly, that should probably terrify the rest of the NFL.Coming off what Detroit internally viewed as a disappointing 2025 season, St. Brown made it clear during a recent conversation with ESPN’s Eric Woodyard that his motivation level has reached another gear entering 2026.“I’ve been excited to get back to work,” St. Brown said. “I feel like last year, we had a disappointing season as a team. That’s how we feel internally. So, I’ve just been excited to get back to work. I’ve been motivated as ever. I feel like I’m motivated every year, but this year, I feel like it was a little different.”That last sentence says everything.Amon-Ra St. Brown Sounds Like a Man on a MissionThe scary part for opposing defenses is that St. Brown was already one of the NFL’s most relentless workers before this offseason even began.Since entering the league, the former fourth round pick has built his reputation around preparation, toughness, consistency, and an almost obsessive competitive edge. Every perceived slight, every draft day criticism, and every missed opportunity seems to fuel him.Now add disappointment from a frustrating season into the equation. That is not exactly ideal news for the rest of the league.Detroit’s offense still remained highly productive statistically in 2025, but internally, the Lions clearly felt they fell short of the standard they established during previous playoff runs.St. Brown’s comments suggest the locker room has not forgotten that feeling. The Lions Still Believe Their Championship Window Is Wide OpenOne of the biggest offseason changes for Detroit came when the organization traded veteran running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans.Montgomery was not just a productive player. He was also one of the emotional leaders of the offense and one of St. Brown’s closest teammates.Still, St. Brown made it clear he believes Detroit’s championship nucleus remains intact.“I feel like our whole nucleus is still with us,” St. Brown explained. “A lot of our best players are still with us and have been with us, so I feel like when you’ve got the players that we have, I can go down the list of the guys, offensively, defensively and special teams… Jack Fox, Jake Bates.”That confidence reflects how Detroit’s core players still view this roster internally. The Lions believe their championship window is very much alive.Detroit’s Core Is Still LoadedIt is hard to argue with St. Brown’s reasoning. The Lions still feature Jared Goff at quarterback, Jahmyr Gibbs as the featured weapon in the backfield, and one of the NFL’s most explosive receiving duos with St. Brown and Jameson Williams.Defensively, Detroit continues building around young stars like Aidan Hutchinson, Jack Campbell, and Brian Branch. The organization also added new free agents, draft picks, and a new offensive coordinator in Drew Petzing. From St. Brown’s perspective, the ingredients are all still there.“We’ve got some free agents, signed some good guys, drafted some good guys so we’ve got the coaches,” he said. “We’ve got to put the work in.”The Message Is Pretty SimpleSt. Brown’s comments did not sound like empty offseason optimism. They sounded like a warning. The Lions know expectations remain enormous entering 2026. They also know adversity is coming at some point because every NFL season eventually gets difficult. But Detroit’s leaders clearly believe this team still has the talent, culture, and mentality needed to compete for a Super Bowl. And judging by the way St. Brown is talking right now, the Lions are not planning on quietly fading away after one disappointing season.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM3 reasons why the Bills' offense will improve in 2026The 2025 Buffalo Bills made it to the Division round of the playoffs, and their offense frequently hung 30-plus points on some of the league's best defenses. But the team fell short of where the roster is meant to land them. GM Brandon Beane has been piecing together the receiving corps and supporting cast in and around the passing game to gradually create a powerful offensive unit around QB Josh Allen. This offseason, he made multiple moves like trading for Elijah Moore and drafting Skyler Bell to enhance their receiver group. Moore is a true separator who gives them their first WR1 since Stefon Diggs. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady, under whom Allen won the league MVP, is now the head coach and play-caller.With those changes and more, here are three reasons why the Bills' offense will improve in 2026:Top TargetsFor two years, the same issues have surrounded Buffalo's offense- not enough separation, not enough explosive plays outside the numbers, too much Shakir, and too many screens. Resulting in too much predictability. It hasn't stopped Josh Allen and company from racking up points. But it has presented the QB with limitations in a passing game that, with the right weapons, could be dominant.Elijah Moore is the headlining addition. He's the closest thing this room has had to a true X-receiver since the Diggs era as a route-runner who wins off the line, can gain leverage at the top of the route tree stem, and gives Allen an elite target on the first read. Behind him, Keon Coleman is going to have his chance to show out if he can play to his billing and role for which he was drafted. He enters year three with a leaner and more agile, strong build, and a clear runway to the contested-catch and red-zone role. Shakir will continue to thrive in the slot where his YAC numbers are explosive, but also time at different receiver positions as well. Beyond them, they are supported in the rotation by Josh Palmer and rookie newcomer Skyler Bell, who could have an immediate impact. If Dalton Kincaid stays healthy, with him and Dawson Knox in two tight end sets, along with their receiving running backs group, Joe Brady suddenly has a couple of handfuls of legitimate playmaking target distributors. That's not just a checkdown offense that might get you yards after the catch; that's a problem for opposing coordinators.Reinforced Offensive LineThe power of friendship alone will not protect Josh Allen. It also takes five formidable fronts, along with real depth in the line rotation. Buffalo's 2026 offensive trenches have both.O'Cyrus Torrence will help man the interior with Alec Anderson and veteran free-agent signee Austin Corbett replacing David Edwards. Connor McGovern is back at center, and Dion Dawkins at left tackle with Spencer Brown on the right. Re-signing McGovern will help give Allen cleaner pre-snap communication, while the current pool of depth offers rotation support and interior insurance. When Allen has a clean pocket, he is statistically the most dangerous quarterback in football. The 2026 front is built to keep that pocket clean.Joe BradyBrady's 2025 play sheet was conservative by design to protect a defense leaking pressure rate and receivers that couldn't always win. With the offseason additions, those guardrails come off. Expect the deep-shot rate and the pre-snap motion volume — already top-five league-wide — to increase. More empty sets, and RPO menu, more Allen taking the six-layered shots a game this offense was built to attempt. This could all be in the cards.Brady's scheme has always been built around the quarterback's strengths. In Buffalo, with Allen, it means unlocking and unleashing his elite abilities while continuing to refine and develop rough edges. An offensive playcaller and system where the players know the language, and the run-game and execution rhythm is second-nature, is where Buffalo's offense can live.Jim Leonhard's defense could make it so the offense doesn't need to overcompensate for weaknesses on the other side of the ball, which would give Brady, Allen, and the offense more autonomy in 2026 to execute a higher and more efficient level than they did during Allen's MVP campaign. While last year's team lost games that mattered because the margins were too thin, Beane made moves to widen the margins with Allen in his prime, surrounded by the most complete supporting cast he has ever had. The Bills' offense is set up to improve in 2026.This article originally appeared on Bills Wire: 3 reasons why the Buffalo Bills' offense will improve in 20260 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFormer 49ers 3rd-round pick tabbed as breakout candidate in 4th seasonThe San Francisco 49ers have a battle brewing at safety where no players on the depth chart have separated themselves as surefire starters at either of the two safety positions. One player in that mix to grab a starting job is 2023 third-round pick Ji'Ayir Brown, who was also tabbed by Fox Sports as a breakout candidate entering the final year of his rookie deal. Brown enters the fourth and final season of his rookie contract in a bit of a strange place. He has 26 starts in 34 games played over the last two seasons, but he wasn't the Week 1 starter in 2025 and he played only sparingly until Week 6. Once he did get on the field, Brown wasn't particularly effective. He did haul in a pair of interceptions in a win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, but outside of that he struggled. Pro Football Focus had him down for 12 missed tackles and a career-worst 15.8 percent missed tackle rate. He was also tagged with six touchdowns allowed, and now has more TDs allowed (10) than pass breakups (9) in his career per the analytics site. While the numbers may fluctuate depending on the source, those figures match the eye test where virtually every combination of safety the 49ers rolled out had a difficult time elevating the 49ers secondary. However, as Fox Sports' Ben Arthur pointed out, improvements across the 49ers defense may help Brown be more impactful in 2026. Via Fox Sports:Reinforcements on the San Francisco 49ers' defensive front in 2026 (linebacker Fred Warner and edge rusher Nick Bosa returning from injury; bringing linebacker Dre Greenlaw back; trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa) will create more playmaking opportunities on the back end for Brown. A breakout campaign from Brown would be a massive lift for the 49ers, especially if it's the result of a dramatically improved pass rush. As rough as the secondary was a season ago it paled in comparison to the issues the 49ers had affecting the quarterback. For San Francisco the breakout season from Brown would help in the immediate, but it isn't likely to make any changes to whether they'll re-sign him in free agency. They haven't prioritized the position under head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, and one big season from Brown probably isn't enough to make them change their minds. For Brown, on the other hand, a breakout year could mean a big offseason payday in his first trip through free agency. APNEWS.COMRepublicans’ recent stumbles in Congress highlight the difficult road ahead for their agendaSpeaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., and House GOP leaders hold a news conference after primary elections that affirmed President Donald Trump's dominance of the Republican Party, at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, May 20, 2026. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)2026-05-28T11:03:45Z WASHINGTON (AP) — A roughly $70 billion bill to fund immigration enforcement through the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term was supposed to be an easy lift for Republicans. But progress stalled over concerns about the inclusion of White House ballroom security funding in the package and the creation of a $1.8 billion fund to finance claims of government mistreatment. The stumble has not only delayed action on a top GOP priority but also is raising questions about other parts of the party’s legislative agenda, including whether Republicans can enact another catchall, party-line bill referred to in Washington parlance as “Reconciliation 3.0.” Republicans have spent recent weeks laying the groundwork for such a bill, which they hope will serve as a final sales pitch to voters going into the midterms. Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, both of Louisiana, have been meeting with committee and caucus chairs to screen for proposals that have strong buy-in from the rank and file. They are aiming to follow up on last summer’s big tax and spending cuts bill with a measure that would increase Pentagon spending by hundreds of billions of dollars and would include cuts elsewhere to help pay for it, which they are couching as tackling government waste and fraud. Share Share Facebook Copy Link copied Print Email X LinkedIn Bluesky Flipboard Pinterest Reddit Read More It’s a high-stakes gambit in an election year. Success will reinforce the GOP’s message of being able to deliver on legislative priorities. Failure will underscore some of the Republican fractures under Trump that could leave voters seeking an alternative. Here’s a look at the coming debate as Republicans hope to pass a bill before leaving for their August recess. House Republicans sound confidentJohnson navigated the House GOP’s slim majority in passing Trump’s tax and spending cuts bill last summer. The vote was 218-214. At the time, Republicans could afford to lose three votes from within their ranks. They lost just two. They’ll have a thin margin of error again, but Johnson said he’s even more confident of success this time around.“It will be just as beautiful, but not as big, so it’ll have less provisions and less things to get everybody to yes on,” he said. Rep. Jodey Arrington, chairman of the House Budget Committee, said Republicans are just as motivated as they were last year on the tax cuts bill. Read More “This one, I think you’ll have potentially money to support our troops in conflict,” said Arrington, of Texas. “I can’t imagine a Republican not wanting to support our troops and military community in a time of conflict.” The Trump administration has called on Republicans to provide $350 billion to defense through a reconciliation bill. But Rep. Brendan Boyle, the lead Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said Republicans will have a more difficult path than they did with Trump’s big tax and spending cuts bill.“I think it will be for a couple of reasons. First is the president’s approval rating. He was at a much higher level a year ago than he is right now,” said Boyle, of Pennsylvania. “Number 2, we are much closer to the November midterm elections. So, if you’re one of a dozen or a couple dozen House Republicans who are really vulnerable in a swing district, you have to think even more carefully about voting for something that has even more health care cuts in it.”The tax cuts bill that passed last summer reduced spending on Medicaid by more than $900 billion over a decade. It also reduced spending on nutrition assistance by about $187 billion over a decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Caution in the SenateSenate Majority Leader John Thune called a third reconciliation bill to get around the filibuster a “potential option,” hardly a ringing endorsement. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said lawmakers should know what will be in the bill before the legislative process begins. That way, it’s less likely to unravel.“If it just becomes another exercise where you’re not really sure what’s going to be the end product, then I think it’s a mistake even to pursue it,” Tillis said. “We ought to be smart about it if we do a third one, but it is kind of a moonshot.” Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said she worried about the strategy. Little time and fractured relationsThe House is expected to be in session for about 24 more days before it breaks for its August recess. That leaves little time to pass a budget blueprint in both chambers, which is the first hurdle for pursuing party-line tax and spending bills. Committees would also have to wrap up their work advancing their portions of the legislation.Another hurdle could be Trump’s treatment of current senators whose votes he will need for any package to become law. Trump endorsed opponents of two senators who faced stiff primary challenges and eventually lost — Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and John Cornyn of Texas. Cassidy has already shown more willingness to buck the president. Fresh off his primary loss, he voted last week to advance a bill that seeks to force Trump to withdraw from hostilities with Iran. For example, Republicans tried to prevent states from providing Medicaid coverage for immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally.Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, said the bill should rest on three pillars, making the country more affordable and secure while reducing fraud.Among the group’s recommendations is a proposal to eliminate the capital gains tax on the sale of homes to first-time homebuyers, which they say would incentivize the market, and a proposal to impose a 5% tax on funds sent by noncitizens back to their home countries.Arrington said he would also like to tighten the rules for the earned income tax credit, a program that increases the financial reward for working but that also has a high rate of improper payments. He also called for prohibiting immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally from living in housing units financed by a housing tax credit paid to developers who construct and rehab affordable housing for renters.“There’s a lot more work to be done to build on what we did in the first one with Medicaid and SNAP (nutrition assistance), with respect to fraud,” Arrington said.___Associated Press writers Mary Clare Jalonick and Stephen Groves contributed to this report.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 49 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWatch: Praful Hinge's aggression after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi doesn't sit well with fansNEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stunning IPL 2026 Eliminator knock may have ended just three runs short of a century, but it still became one of the biggest talking points of the season. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter smashed 97 off only 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, hammering 12 sixes and completely dominating the bowling attack before finally being dismissed by SRH pacer Praful Hinge.Hinge celebrated aggressively after taking the wicket, clearly pumped up after ending Sooryavanshi’s destructive innings. However, the celebration did not go down well with many fans on social media, with several users criticising the bowler for his reaction against a teenager who had just played a breathtaking knock.Soon after the dismissal, SRH batter Abhishek Sharma walked up to Sooryavanshi and gave him a reassuring pat on the back. The gesture quickly caught attention online, with many fans appreciating the sportsmanship shown by the Indian opener.Watch:— uf2151593 (@uf2151593) Before his dismissal, Sooryavanshi had completely changed the game with fearless batting at the top of the order. He and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 125 runs for the opening wicket in rapid time, putting Rajasthan Royals firmly in control of the Eliminator clash. The teenager narrowly missed becoming the fastest centurion in IPL history but still managed to rewrite several records during his innings. His explosive strokeplay left even experienced bowlers struggling for answers.Dhruv Jurel later added a quickfire 50 off just 21 balls to help Rajasthan Royals post a massive total of 243/8 in 20 overs. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Praful Hinge finished with figures of 3/54 despite enduring a difficult outing during Sooryavanshi’s assault. Rajasthan Royals eventually dominated the match and moved one step closer to the IPL 2026 final with a commanding performance in the knockout encounter.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKnicks' Jalen Brunson compared to Super Bowl MVP — with a fascinating Nick Saban twistKnicks' Jalen Brunson compared to Super Bowl MVP — with a fascinating Nick Saban twist originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Jalen Brunson turned around his career for the better after leaving the Dallas Mavericks to sign a four-year, $104 million contract with the New York Knicks. Previously, he was playing under the enormous shadow of Luka Doncic, but with the Knicks, Brunson has taken the reins. After failing to take the Knicks into the NBA Finals last year, the guard redeemed himself in style. He led from the front in the Knicks' 4-0 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers and then the Cleveland Cavaliers. The closest NFL comparison Ty Schmit can think of for Brunson is New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, whose career trajectory has been similar to the Knicks guard. "The one that's most closest to Jalen Brunson leaving Dallas, going to the Knicks and turning around --Drew Brees leaving the Chargers, going to New Orleans and turning around that city," Schmit said.Drew Brees and Jalen Brunson's fate might have a link with Nick Saban twistDrew Brees departed the San Diego Chargers in 2006 after they chose to place their trust in young quarterback Philip Rivers, whom they had drafted highly. Sure, Brees was respected, but he was let go, somewhat similar to Jalen Brunson's striking exit from the Mavericks. "They liked him, but they had Phillip Rivers," Schmit said about the Chargers' scenario. "And I think it's the Mavericks. They liked Jalen Brunson, but they had Luka Doncic, so they let him go."Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has become the NFL equivalent of former Saints QB Drew Brees.Cc: @tyschmit🎧 https://t.co/jE2MJ5zgJVpic.twitter.com/nQqfQy3EmE— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 28, 2026Dallas fans were not happy after the Mavericks decided not to extend Brunson and now they see Brunson emerging as a premier NBA guard. This similar arc was experienced with Brees, too, but this was before. He turned around a struggling Saints squad, leading them to Super Bowl XLIV win.MORE: Jalen Brunson’s $113 million gamble changed Knicks history foreverSchmit also explored what if it was not the Orleans but instead the Miami Dolphins who signed Brees in 2006 free agency. The analyst believes this would have changed the entire career trajectory of former Alabama Crimson Tide legendary head coach Nick Saban and those six national championships that he won afterwards."If Drew Brees had gone to Miami over New Orleans, I maintain, Nick Saban might still be coaching the NFL," Schmit added. "He might never have gone. He would have been there for Drew Brees' career. He would have won a Super Bowl in Miami. He would have been declared a hero. Alabama wouldn't have had the coach it did." If there is a connection written in stars, we might already know the winner of the 2026 NBA Finals. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAll you need to know about England’s 2026 World Cup group stage opponentsAll you need to know about England’s 2026 World Cup group stage opponentsJames McClair, Football reporterThe 2026 World Cup is just two weeks away, with thousands of England supporters to make the journey across the pond in the hope of seeing their country lift the trophy for the first time in 60 long years.Gareth Southgate is no longer in charge and it’s Thomas Tuchel who has been entrusted to take the final step and turn the Three Lions from nearly-men to world champions. If the German is to secure a generational feat on the East Coast, he’ll have to start by finding a way past Croatia, Ghana and Panama. Here’s all you need to know about England’s Group L opponents.Croatia – Wednesday 17th June, 21:00 (GMT), AT&T Stadium (Dallas)Route to World Cup: UEFA Group L WinnersWorld ranking: 11thBest World Cup performance: Finalists (2018)Player to watch: Luka Vuskovic (Hamburg, loaned from Tottenham Hotspur)England kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign against familiar opposition. Croatia have a history of inflicting summer heartbreak on the Three Lions, having beaten them 2-1 in the semi-finals in 2018 to reach a first ever World Cup final.Having emerged as dark horses in Russia, Croatia cemented their place amongst Europe’s elite when they reached the last four in Qatar, though this time they bowed out to Argentina. For a country with a population just shy of four million people, twice exiting the game’s greatest competition at the hands of the eventual winners is still some achievement.Head coach Zlatko Dalic has masterminded both of the medal-winning runs and will be hoping to go one further in North America. The former midfielder has bled in a crop of young talent, including the likes of Inter Milan’s Petar Sucic and Como’s Martin Baturina, alongside an experienced core captained by former Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric. There are doubts over the condition of Dalic’s two most trusted lieutenants. Modric has recently undergone surgery for a fractured cheekbone whilst Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol has not featured since suffering a broken shin in January, but both were named in the travelling party. There are a number of threats within the Croatian ranks, many of whom have featured for some of Europe’s elite clubs, and they’ll be no walkover for Tuchel’s team. They’ve identified suitable replacements for the previously crucial Ivan Rakitic, Marcelo Brozovic and Domagoj Vida and boasted an unbeaten record in qualifying. My prediction: England 1-0 CroatiaGhana – Tuesday 23rd June, 21:00 (GMT), Gillette Stadium (Boston)Route to World Cup: CAF Group I WinnersWorld ranking: 74thBest World Cup performance: Quarter finalists, 2010Player to watch: Abdul Fatawu (Leicester City)Stamping their ticket for the tournament’s 23rd edition is a mighty achievement for Ghana yet they will begin the tournament without the manager who secured their place in the competition.Despite boasting some of Africa’s best Premier League talents in the way of Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo, the Black Stars inexcusably failed to reach last year’s AFCON after they were unable to win any of their six qualifying matches. The country’s federation took the decision to part ways with Otto Addo, 72 days before the tournament’s opener, after four straight friendly defeats and installed former Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz in his place.Queiroz has plenty of attacking options to elect from. Semenyo and Kudus have impressed this season whilst experienced forward Inaki Williams is a capable forward. In wide areas, the likes of Kamaldeen Sulemana and Abdul Fatawu are equally tricky operators. The Black Stars may come unstuck defensively, having been dealt a double blow after Mohammed Salisu and Tariq Lamptey both injured their anterior cruciate ligaments.Nevertheless, Queiroz will be optimistic his side can progress from the groups, at the very least in third place, but conquering England when they’re on form might be a little too much of an ask.My prediction: England 2-0 GhanaPanama – Saturday 27th June, 22:00 (GMT), MetLife Stadium (New Jersey)Route to World Cup: CONCACAF Group A WinnersWorld ranking: 33rdBest World Cup performance: Group stage, 2018Player to watch: Adalberto Carrasquilla (UNAM)Panama won’t have been pleased to learn they must face England a second time at the World Cup, as Los Canaleros were on the receiving end of a Harry Kane hat-trick in a 6-1 dismantling in their first ever finals tournament eight years ago. After all, Los Canaleros discovered the reality of World Cup football the hard way eight years ago, as Harry Kane netted a hattrick in a 6-1 drubbing.Panama will be hoping to secure their first World Cup points this time around under former Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen. Given the number of third place spots in the last 32, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they could progress.Panama proved a competitive force on the way to booking their place in the tournament. They conceded just five goals in their 10 qualifying matches, not tasting defeat once.Defenders Jose Córdoba and Amir Murillo, both of whom have made brave moves to European clubs Norwich City and Besiktas respectively, could be pivotal to any prospect of being the surprise package of the World Cup.They’ll rely on the experienced duo of Jose Fajardo and Cecilio Waterman if the country are to better the one goal they mustered up in their debut on the world stage.Mexican side FC Juarez’s inventive winger Puma has proved another key source of firepower.Lynchpin Adalberto Carrasquilla personifies this relative golden age in Panamanian football, having picked up the Golden Ball award at the 2023 Gold Cup as his side reached the final. With the newly introduced Round of 32 increasing the workload in already scorching conditions, this clash may present the perfect opportunity for Tuchel to rotate but England should still have more than enough to down Los Canaleros. My prediction: England 3-0 PanamaWhich opponent are you most wary of? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAHL Playoffs: WBS drops Game 1 to MarliesThe Toronto Marlies frustrated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and found a way to slip out of Game 1 with a road win. The WBS power play was 0/3 on the night, the Marlies were 1/2. That, plus the late third period goal tipped the balance of Game 1 in Toronto’s direction. The Penguins vowed to regroup and execute better in Game 2 coming up on Friday night. The silver lining for WBS is this round is a best-of-seven, up from the best-of-five that they have been paying. Dropping Game 1 at home is never ideal, but at least it isn’t as harmful in a seven game series compared to a shorter one. WBS will get that chance to regroup and give it a go to see how they respond. So far this team has been impressive at shrugging off losses and coming back strong – WBS has a 3-0 record this playoffs in the game following a loss (winning by a combined 14-5 score in those games). Wilkes will need to go back to that well again in order to even up the series before it heads to Toronto for Games 3+4.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMcCarthy wants to return 'home' as Blackburn bossFormer Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy says he would return to the club as head coach "in a heartbeat".The 48-year-old, who netted 52 goals in 140 games for Blackburn between 2006 and 2010, is currently the manager of the Kenya national team.Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill guided Rovers to safety in the Championship in 2025-26 after taking over on an interim basis in February to replace Valerien Ismael. But O'Neill decided against taking the job permanently in order to stay with Northern Ireland, meaning the Ewood Park hierarchy are in the process of recruiting a new head coach."I love Blackburn Rovers and I would put my life down that I would want that club to succeed so bad, to get them in the Premier League," McCarthy told BBC Radio Lancashire."And maybe that's what they need instead of always going for the tried and tested?"The decision-makers are always there to make those hard decisions but if one day that call comes, I would be there in a heartbeat."Benni McCarthy worked alongside Cristiano Ronaldo while part of the Manchester United coaching staff [Getty Images]After retiring from playing in 2013, McCarthy joined the coaching staff at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian before going on to manage Cape Town City and AmaZulu in his home country of South Africa. He was also Manchester United's first-team striker coach between 2022 and 2024 and has been with the Kenya national team since March 2025.But McCarthy said there are a "few special places" in his heart, including Blackburn."Porto always has a special place because of my achievements as an individual, as a team," the ex-South Africa international said."Ajax Amsterdam, a special place because it was my first club that took me from Africa and gave me the platform to be in Europe."But Blackburn Rovers is where I was at home. That is where my family is and there's nothing greater than that. There's not a single thing that I wouldn't want to do to see that club succeed again."And if you have an opportunity one day to work there, I would lay my life on the line for that football club."McCarthy accepts he does not boast the managerial experience of other potential candidates but has urged senior figures at Blackburn to consider their strategy for next season."I understand I'm a young manager, very fresh, new in this game," he said. "But then I look at it [the same] as playing football. Sometimes when you have a young player that's talented, that's good enough, are you going to take a risk?"Vincent Kompany, they've given him a chance and look what he's done. He brought Burnley to the Premier League with an unbelievable [season], probably one of the best Championship seasons that I've seen a team have."Then he's gone to Bayern Munich and you see how he's doing. Very inexperienced coach but when people believe in young people, they can exceed their expectations."So I think sometimes going for the tried and tested doesn't always work, the experience doesn't [always] get you over the line."McCarthy said he understands from the Blackburn board's point of view that if they "take a risk on a younger coach and it doesn't pay off, then they get scrutinised by the fans"."They get scrutinised in the media for taking a risk on a coach who's never really coached in the Championship," he added. "But sometimes the reward is far greater than the risk."Latest Blackburn Rovers news, analysis and fan viewsListen to Blackburn Rovers content on BBC Sounds0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

APNEWS.COMFederal judge refuses to block Trump order to create federal voter list and limit mail votingA tray of mail-in ballots is seen at King County Elections headquarters on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2024, in Renton, Wash. (AP Photo/Lindsey Wasson, File)2026-05-28T11:54:56Z A federal judge has declined to halt President Donald Trump’s executive order creating a federal voter list and limiting mail voting, clearing the way for potential sweeping changes in how American elections are run shortly before this year’s midterm elections.U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee in Washington, late Wednesday rejected the request by Democrats and civil rights groups that had argued Trump’s order would likely be found unconstitutional because the states and Congress, not the president, have the power to set election rules. Nichols agreed with the Trump administration’s contention it was too early to issue the order because it has yet to be implemented.“The Court recognizes that the Postal Service may ultimately issue a final rule that directly affects Plaintiffs or their members, or that the Government may develop State Citizenship Lists that omit specific individuals due to particularized flaws,” Nichols wrote. “Plaintiffs may, of course, renew their motions if and when those future actions occur. Until then, however, Plaintiffs cannot show that preliminary injunctive relief is warranted.” The legal battle against the provision now shifts to Boston, where voting rights groups have a separate lawsuit against the executive order in federal court. Trump issued the order in March after a bill he supported to overhaul voting stalled in Congress. The order would have had the federal government create a list of eligible voters and then directed the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to those on the list. Election officials argued it was ripe for abuse and could cause chaos. Read More Since his 2020 presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden, Trump has groundlessly claimed mail voting is rife with fraud and has launched a federal investigation into that year’s vote, even though repeated audits and investigations, including ones run by Republicans, found it was free of widespread fraud. Trump also has said he wants to “take over” election administration in Democratic areas. Democrats and civil rights groups argued it was urgent that Nichols issue a restraining order in the midst of primary season and with states already gearing up for the fall midterm elections. This was Trump’s second executive order seeking to overhaul elections and voting. His initial election executive order, issued just months after he took office in his second term, has been blocked by multiplefederal judges. That order sought to require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote, among other changes. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 49 Vistas 0 Reseñas

APNEWS.COMA rare blue micromoon rises this weekendThe full moon rises behind the buildings of the banking district in Frankfurt, Germany, Friday, May 1, 2026. (AP Photo/Michael Probst)2026-05-28T12:03:25Z CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Get set for a rare blue micromoon this weekend — a blue moon that’s also the most distant and smallest-looking full moon of the year.A bonus: The brilliant star Antares will photobomb Sunday’s spectacle for a celestial three-for-one. A blue moon occurs every two to three years when a second full moon squeezes into a single month. May 1 saw this month’s first full moon. Since the moon’s orbit isn’t a perfect circle, the upcoming full moon will be farther from Earth than usual at a distance of 252,360 miles (406,135 kilometers), making it seem a bit smaller and dimmer. It’s the opposite of a supermoon when a full moon comes closer to us than normal. The most recent supermoon, for instance, was just 225,130 miles (362,312 kilometers) away. The Virtual Telescope Project’s Gianluca Masi, who will provide a live webcast from Italy, said Sunday’s micromoon will appear about 6% smaller and 10% dimmer than that of an average full moon — “differences that are subtle enough to likely go unnoticed by most observers.” The scene will be especially thrilling south of the equator across the Pacific. For stargazers in Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, eastern Australia, parts of Antarctica and a smattering of other islands, Antares will vanish temporarily as the blue micromoon passes in front of it. The red supergiant star, 550 light-years away, is known as the “heart of scorpion” in the constellation Scorpius. A light-year is almost 6 trillion miles (9.7 trillion kilometers). Read More There won’t be any disappearing act for those looking up elsewhere in the world, with Antares constantly visible alongside the full moon. And despite the name, this blue moon won’t appear turquoise, sapphire or any other shade. The term simply refers to the uncommon occurrence of two full moons in one month.___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Department of Science Education and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘No one has contacted me’: La Liga star’s agent discusses Barcelona transfer interest‘No one has contacted me’: La Liga star’s agent discusses Barcelona transfer interestFC Barcelona have well and truly arrived on the transfer scene, and their return to the 1:1 Fair Play rule is sending shockwaves through the football community. The Catalans have already tied down Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and are now working on full steam to get Julian Alvarez locked in as well. For the first time in years, they are operating with complete financial freedom and a clear sense of direction.A possible goalkeeping reinforcementJoan Garcia arrived last summer and has already established himself as one of the best in the world in his position. Wojciech Szczesny has served as an able guide for the former, but his performances have not generated as much conviction.Barcelona are interested in Remiro. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images)On that front, Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro has emerged as a potential option to strengthen Barcelona’s goal this summer and serve as Garcia’s backup. His agent, however, recently confirmed to Erem News (h/t SPORT) that no official advance has been made yet.“At the moment, no Barcelona official has contacted me for the signing of Remiro,” Francisco Valdivi, Remiro’s agent, began.“He has a contract with Real Sociedad and, if they want to sign him, they must speak directly with the sports management of La Real,” he added.Notably, La Real are open to selling the player at the right price, possibly around the €8 to €10 million mark.Remiro’s agent has denied any contact with Barcelona. (Photo by Rafa Babot/Getty Images)A revolution in goalHeading into the summer transfer window, Barcelona are looking to make massive moves in goal, albeit more in departures than arrivals.Marc-Andre ter Stegen, whose loan stint away from the club was also hit by injury, is seen as a saleable candidate should any club be interested. Academy graduate Inaki Pena is another player who the club sees as saleable. The futures of Ander Astralaga and Aron Yaakobishvili, meanwhile, continue to be in a grey area and will largely depend on whether or not Barcelona pursue a new signing in the department.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMVaibhav Sooryavanshi's 'India debut can wait': Ex-India cricketer Aakash ChopraVaibhav Sooryavanshi’s sensational 97 off just 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator has sparked massive calls on social media for an immediate India debut. However, former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra believes the teenage sensation still has plenty of time on his side.Rajasthan Royals stormed into Qualifier 2 with a commanding 47-run victory over SRH after Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking innings powered them to a huge total of 243/8. In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad were bowled out for 196, with Jofra Archer leading the bowling attack brilliantly during the powerplay.Speaking on Star Sports’ JioStar show, Aakash Chopra praised the 15-year-old’s extraordinary talent but advised patience regarding his India call-up.“We are still two years away from the next World Cup. There is plenty of time. Yes, the idea of picking Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for India based on his IPL performances is exciting. You simply cannot ignore what he is doing because the IPL is India’s biggest T20 tournament, and he is breaking records everywhere,'' Akash said.“You have to take him seriously. He is special, without any doubt. But you don’t make changes just for the sake of it. For someone to come in, someone else has to fail first. If players are already performing consistently, why would you replace them just because a youngster has scored heavily?,'' he added. 131366402“Right now, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are those top performers. You don’t replace them immediately. Otherwise, in two or three years, if Vaibhav goes through a lean patch, another youngster will be pushed ahead of him in the same way. The selectors - Ajit Agarkar, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha - will definitely feel the pressure, but they have to think about what is best for Indian cricket. They will make the right decision, Vaibhav’s India debut does not need to happen tomorrow. It can wait. He is only 15 years old. There is absolutely no rush,” Chopra concluded.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRoma Roundtable Season Review: MidfieldVERONA, ITALY - MAY 24: Neil El Aynaoui and Manu Kone of AS Roma celebrate the victory after the Serie A match between Hellas Verona FC and AS Roma at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on May 24, 2026 in Verona, Italy. (Photo by Fabio Rossi/AS Roma via Getty Images) | AS Roma via Getty Images During yesterday’s review of Roma’s goalkeepers and defense, we waxed poetically about the combined brilliance of players like Mile Svilar, Evan Ndicka, and Wesley França. And tomorrow, we plan on doing the same when we cast our eyes towards Donyell Malen and the forward. However, today’s review focuses on a slightly more confounding section of the pitch, the midfield. As much as we decry Roma’s track record with developing and retaining full-backs, the club’s record in midfield isn’t much better. Just think of all the names we’ve seen come and go over the past several years: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Enzo Le Fee, Mady Camara, Gonzalo Villar, Jordan Veretout, and even Sérgio Oliveira. Of course, moored in and amongst those names have been Bryan Cristante and Lorenzo Pellegrini, who continued to play significant roles for the Giallorossi this season. And while Manu Koné has brought much-needed pace and intensity to the position, the midfield still suffered through fallow periods this season, lacking creativity and being frequently exposed on counter attacks.Still, it didn’t prevent the club from finishing in 3rd place and securing their First Champions League birth since the 2018-2019 season, so it wasn’t all bad! Read along as we discuss the highs and lows of Gian Piero Gasperini’s midfield. How would you evaluate Manu Koné’s overall impact on Roma’s midfield in 2025–26, and in what areas does he still need to improve to become a truly elite all-around midfielder? Can Roma cope without him next season?JonAS: Koné might not be the flashy, elite midfielder we all want him to be, but whenever he’s out, Roma always misses his presence in midfield. He does a lot of dirty work, annoys his opponents, and shuts down the other team’s midfielders. He could work on his numbers (goals, assists), but like I said, remove him from the team and you feel it immediately. If Roma does sell him (I hope not, but hey, FFP), his replacement must be spot on. Apparently, Sassuolo also has an impressive Koné in midfield who could do the job. Or maybe Ndour from Fiorentina.Bren: I used to think that Radja Nainngolan was just being unnecessarily critical of Koné throughout the season when he griped about people comparing the two of them, with his primary criticism being that Koné didn’t contribute as much in the final third. But as the season wore on, that was really the only wrinkle in Koné’s game. Aside from that, he has what it takes to become a top-level box-to-box/ball-carrier hybrid midfielder. As for whether or not they can cope without him, they may have no choice. Of the players Roma could sell this summer, he’d fetch the most money and could solve their FFP headaches rather easily. It may not be a like-for-like replacement, but I like Leipzig’s Xaver Schlager for a more traditional box-to-box midfielder. ssciavillo: I think Koné is vital to Roma’s midfield. He brings a dynamism that no one else on the current roster offers in the center of the park. His absence was definitely felt in matches when he was unavailable due to injury. As the guys mentioned, his one true weakness is in the final third, where his finishing is very poor at this point. However, everything else he does far outweighs that. Roma can cope without him next season if they find a suitable replacement, but I hope they can keep him around for another season to play in the Champions League. If he does have to go to help balance the budget, then let’s hope he tears it up at the World Cup for France so Roma can maximize profit. And let’s hope he’s sold abroad and not to Inter. Bryan Cristante remains one of the most divisive players in the Roma squad: some supporters view him as an indispensable tactical anchor whose intelligence and versatility hold the midfield together, while others see him as emblematic of the team’s lack of creativity and athleticism in certain matches. After the 2025–26 season, where do you stand on Cristante’s role in Roma’s midfield, and should he continue to be a central figure moving forward? JonAS: At 31, perhaps it’s time to make way for younger players like Pisilli, Koné, and Neil, but I think Cristante himself isn’t ready yet. Understandable. He played 36 games in Serie A, and Roma finished 3rd, so why would he step down and accept a role as a sub? I do believe he’s limited, but on the other hand, there are no clear counterarguments to ‘exclude’ Cristante from the lineup. Maybe if Gasp had 3 other high-quality CMs to choose from, but sadly, Roma doesn’t have that kind of money. Cristante is the ultimate ‘plug-and-play’ kind of guy who’s always available. Every. Single. Week. So yeah, there are 35 more Serie A games in 2027, sir Bryan! Whether we like it or not.Bren: Well, he’s got one more year on his deal, so he’ll still be a piece of the puzzle after that. Given his limitations and age, I’d be very hesitant to offer him a new contract. Love him or hate him, you could always count on Cristante for 30 matches each season, and that’s not something to be taken lightly. As part of the rotation, he’s dependable enough—Roma did finish 3rd, after all—but as Roma’s ambitions increase, they need to look for upgrades everywhere, particularly in midfield. ssciavillo: There’s a saying that goes, “the greatest ability is availability,” and Cristante epitomizes that. He’s a true team guy who will do whatever a manager asks of him. Far greater tactical minds than mine who have come through Rome have continued to play him consistently–whether that be Gasperini, Ranieri, Mourinho, or others. So, while the criticism often has some legs, there has to be a reason every single manager continues to play him. I think his best role on the current roster is in a midfield rotation, where other players continue to grow into more consistent minutes, while Cristante’s minutes have come down a bit now that he’s past 30. However, I do think he’ll have an important role for at least another season. Same question, but point it at Lorenzo Pellegrini: Is he truly fit or Gasperini’s high-intensity approach, or does he sap the midfield of pace and intensity when it’s needed most? Is there a happy medium for the former captain?JonAS: Someone in Chiesa recently mentioned Roma’s results with and without Pellegrini this season and the difference was obvious. Roma was way better sans Pellegrini. Although it hurts me to say this, because I think Lorenzo really loves Roma, he’s holding Roma back more than say Mancini or Cristante because of his ‘slower’ gameplay. And his AM role in Gasperini’s 3-4-2-1 is too important. We need a serious upgrade there. A more mobile, faster, and more aggressive version to complement Wesley, Malen, and Dybala. That leaves only two options for Lorenzo: leave or accept your role as mentor/sub. He could still be useful against slower opposition in Serie A and for the Italian quota, but not at his current salary.Bren: Yeah, I can’t argue with any of that. Just like with Cristante, it’s a question of the size of their roles, but from the jump, there were questions about his suitability for Gasperini’s preferred style of play. You’ll remember all the headlines from late last summer questioning whether he still had a place on the team. Then he was stripped of the captaincy, so his place under Gasp was always a bit iffy. Still, Pellegrini found a way to remain a viable contributor and a constant threat from set pieces.Honestly, a repeat of this season (20 starts, 4 goals, 2 assists in about 1,500 minutes) is right up his alley. So if they can recreate that at a lower salary, then I’d have no problem with Pellegrini returning. Had they finished 5th or 6th again, I would’ve been more inclined to toss them both aside, but they still provide value to the club; we just have to adjust the barometer of our expectations and the size of their roles. ssciavillo: I’ve always been a supporter of Pellegrini throughout the ups and downs of his Roma tenure, and I do hope he’s back on a deal with lower wages. I still think he has something to offer, but I agree that it should be in a more rotational role, where he plays against the right opponents in Serie A and some of the lower sides in the Champions League. Let him be the guy who provides leadership in the locker room and fills a depth role. After all, we always talk about Roma’s lack of depth, so if he’s willing to stick around at a reasonable price to provide that, I think he still has the ability to contribute. Bren mentioned his Serie A contributions, but he also had 3 goals and 2 assists in the EL, bringing his total to 7 goals and 4 assists in just under 2,000 minutes. Not too shabby.Niccolò Pisilli emerged as Roma’s most promising young midfielder, showing maturity, work rate, and confidence well beyond his age. Did Pisilli prove he is ready for a permanent starting role moving forward, and what parts of his game still need refinement for him to become a true top-level Serie A midfielder? JonAS: Yeah, I guess Pisilli is now firmly part of the team and surely won’t be loaned out to a smaller club anymore. I really like the kid. He’s humble and hardworking. Maybe he tries too hard from time to time. There’s room for growth (for instance, the penalty foul vs. Nice), but luckily there will be plenty of chances next season. Finally, he can prove himself vs. the big boys in the Champions League, so there will be growing pains. I feel Gasp used this season as one big test for Niccolo, and he definitely passed it. Pisilli will play an even bigger part next season. That’s my bet.Bren: As lauded as Roma’s academy is, it’s been a few years since the club has enjoyed the fruits of those labors, due to players being sold or failing to meet expectations. Pisilli seems ready for a larger role next season; it’s simply a matter of mastering the finer points of the position. But his first year with Gasp was an encouraging start: 4 goals and 4 assists in all competitions while playing CM, DM, and a bit of AM.He has a bright future ahead of him and seems likely to be an 8-10-year starter for the club if everything breaks right. ssciavillo: I really do like Pisilli’s game and think he has firmly established himself as a permanent part of the first-team rotation. When I think of an out-and-out starter, I’d say yes, as part of a four-man rotation in Gasperini’s midfield, as well as a guy who can plug and play in attacking midfield when injuries and fatigue leave us short in that position. I love his aggressiveness and nose for goal, and I think he’ll continue to grow and eventually flourish under GPG. Neil El Aynaoui added energy and composure to Roma’s midfield, but his season highlighted challenges in adapting to Serie A’s physical and tactical demands. How would you evaluate his first season, and what areas should be prioritized for his development to become a more reliable long-term player?JonAS: Neil is one of the more difficult players for me to assess. He clearly has talent, and he was a monster during the Africa Cup. But he couldn’t maintain that form after New Year. The step up to Serie A was a roller coaster, but in recent weeks we saw a better, more motivated NEA, a midfield destroyer. Neil strikes me as an emotional guy who needs the confidence, love and support of his staff, fans and colleagues. It would be a shame to sell Neil after only one season and simply try our luck with another guy. A good World Cup with Morocco, followed by a good preseason, could really help NEA explode and unleash his inner Radja or Strootman in his second season at Roma.Bren: Because he played so sporadically and so unevenly, it’s difficult to make a proper assessment of NEA. Still, his upswings were fantastic, and he provided glimpses of the power and pace he can bring to the midfield. While he’s not exactly young by footballing standards, he’s never played more than 1,700 minutes in a season, so there is still room for growth. His role next year will really depend on what happens with Koné and Cristante, but he definitely piqued my interest this year, and I’m intrigued to see what he can offer next season. ssciavillo: It’s really hard to truly assess his first season because he played under 1,000 Serie A minutes and only made 8 starts. He missed time for AFCON and made most of his meaningful appearances in the Europa Lesgue–which I don’t get to watch too closely because of the timing of matches during the workday. So, I will withhold judgement until we see more of him. However, if his performances for Morocco are any indication of what he can truly become than Roma should have a quality midfielder ready to help out even more next season when quality depth will be even more important if the club strives to progress now that a top 3 finish and UCL qualification were achieved this season. Your turn: What did you make of Roma’s midfield this season? Are Pellegrini and Cristante holding them back? Can they survive without Koné? Is El Aynaoui a future starter?0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWorkload (mis) management: Why IPL franchises need to do betterNew Delhi: Sunday was a significant day in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only did it decide the fourth, and final, team for the playoffs, but it also put the spotlight on how workload management has gone for a toss. Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders were in action on the double-header day and the last day of the league stage highlighted how the franchises have (mis)managed Indian cricketers.Mumbai Indians finally decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah but this decision came two weeks late as the team was out of playoffs contention on May 10. They could have allowed India's leading fast bowler a breather. It is worth noting that the bowler, as revealed by head coach Mahela Jayawardene, had a niggle before coming into the tournament but he was drafted into the XI right from the start. As TimesofIndia.com first reported, Bumrah was at the BCCI CoE and it can be confirmed that it wasn't a back issue but a knee niggle that needed attention. Former BCCI Head of Sports Science Nitin Patel, who is currently with the MI franchise, accompanied him to Bengaluru. The 32-year-old joined the squad late and marked his run-up after training with the side for a couple of days. The question now arises: if everyone in the MI camp was aware of the niggle and the visit to the CoE, what was the rush to draft him into the XI? The franchise took it very easy with Rohit, who missed nearly a month of cricket due to a hamstring issue and played mostly as an Impact Player, yet they kept India's MVP on the park for 13 games, most of which were dead rubbers.BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told TOI that the Indian cricket board can't "micro-manage" their workload during the IPL and chose not to interfere."BCCI can't micro-manage the workload and fitness of the players during the IPL. We can't micro-manage the workload and fitness of the players during the IPL, because otherwise, it will be interference in the functioning of the franchises by the BCCI regarding the activities of their teams and players," Saikia told TOI.Not just Bumrah, even Varun Chakravarthy played with a hairline fracture for KKR and captain Ajinkya Rahane defended the decision saying they got the go-ahead from the medical team. 131366343"See, our team's physios and the physios of BCCI NCA and the Indian team, there was a discussion among them. I don't get involved in that at all. That's their department. My department is how's the player's mindset, does the player want to play or not, how big is the risk," Rahane said after KKR's last league match, which they lost to the Delhi Capitals.RR skipper Riyan Parag also revealed that he is "definitely not fit" after the win over Mumbai Indians. He not only played that game but also played the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. Parag is on the BCCI's targetted players list and will be the deputy to India A captain Tilak Varma for the tri-series in Sri Lanka next month.Even Arshdeep Singh operated with "restrictions" in his body, as revealed by Punjab Kings Head of Sports Science Andrew Leipus. It is understandable that no player would want to miss an IPL game, but the BCCI, IPL franchises and key stakeholders need to align to ensure Indian cricket remains the top priority. A few days after the IPL ends, multiple players will be off for different assignments. The last thing any Indian side would want is a burned out and mismanaged cricketer carrying niggles.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrowns have the 4 most important types of receivers, can they find ways to excel?BEREA, OHIO - MAY 08: Denzel Boston #12 and KC Concepcion #17 of the Cleveland Browns listen to a play call from Taylen Green #15 during a rookie minicamp at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus on May 08, 2026 in Berea, Ohio. (Photo by Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images) | Diamond Images/Getty Images For so long, the Cleveland Browns have struggled to find two receivers, sometimes even one, who can be productive at the same time. Some of that is due to quarterback play, but even Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry were not able to “make magic” like they wanted to in the orange and brown. Even the great years from Josh Gordon, Terrelle Pryor, and Jerry Jeudy (most catches in a single season in Cleveland history), the Browns never really found a suitable counterpart. With two receivers selected in the 2026 NFL draft, Cleveland GM Andrew Berry has put together a group of receivers with complementary skills, youth, and upside. A look at four general archetypes of how receivers are successful in the NFL, the Browns might have all four:Big and strong like Tee HigginsStraight line speed like Jayden Reed, Terry McLaurinGadget, make play with a ball in his hands like Deebo SamuelOverall good, including strong YAC like Ja’Marr Chase, Justin JeffersonNow, before I compare Cleveland receivers to archetypes listed above, it is important to note that I am not comparing them to the players listed as examples. Instead, those examples were just to give a picture of the archetype, not the Browns receiver’s comparison.Cleveland has young guys at all four archetypes:Denzel Boston is the big, strong outside receiverIsaiah Bond is the straight-line speed receiverMalachi Corley is the gadget, shifty receiverKC Concepcion has the skills to be the overall good receiverJoin the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system!Veteran Jerry Jeudy also fits the archetype for the overall receiver who can do a lot of things; he’s just got to catch the ball, have consistent quarterback play, and stay focused.Given their recent draft status, Concepcion and Boston are exciting players with upside. Bond, who came in very late last offseason, showed a glimpse of his ability last year despite poor QB play for the majority of his time on the field. Corley may benefit the most from Todd Monken’s system and creativity. He is not the top-level receiver that was hoped for after being drafted in the second round by the New York Jets, but the college “YAC King” showed he can play an important role as a gadget player. Will all four young guys and Jeudy be able to thrive in Cleveland? That greatly depends on expectations. Pure counting stats, especially with Monken’s history as a run-first play caller, may not be great, especially in 2026. The key to answering the thrive question will come in two ways. First, on film, are the receivers playing off of each other and creating space for each other with their given skill set? Second, statistically, does the Browns passing offense have a higher overall passing yardage and percent of the offense to receivers than a majority of other teams? The reality is that Cleveland’s offense has a lot of mouths to feed. On top of those five receivers, RB Quinshon Judkins and TE Harold Fannin Jr. will get their touches. It is possible that the Browns offense is well-balanced, leaving no one player to excel statistically or two or three get the majority of the touches/targets, leaving the rest to make an impact with limited opportunities. For maybe the first time since The Return in 1999, Cleveland has options on offense and, especially important, players who fit the four different archetypes for successful receivers in the NFL. Fun to think about as the offseason program rolls on.How do you see these receivers playing their roles? Do you believe the Browns have the right mix of WR styles to be successful?Share your thoughts in our comment section below0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDana White explains only thing he 'really cared about' with UFC White House cardWhen the UFC Freedom 250 fight card was revealed in March, opinions abounded about the quality and intrigue given Dana White's promise of "the baddest card of all time."Neither of the promotion's two biggest draws, Conor McGregor nor Jon Jones, were included despite their repeated calls to be. There wasn't a champion-vs.-champion superfight either. Also missing? No women. "There was supposed to be women on the card," Dana White said in an interview with Time magazine. "I wanted women on the card. It just didn't work out that way."What White and UFC matchmakers put together for the June 14 fight night on the South Lawn of the White House was two championship fights atop the bill – Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje in a lightweight title unifier and Ciryl Gane vs. Alex Pereira for the interim heavyweight title – with an assortment of matchups behind it: Sean O'Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi, Michael Chandler vs. Mauricio Ruffy, Kyle Daukaus vs. Bo Nickal, and Steve Garcia vs. Diego Lopes. The UFC would later add Josh Hokit vs. Derrick Lewis at the request of President Trump.More: What will the White House bathroom situation be like at UFC Freedom 250?While the UFC Freedom 250 card is widely considered to be high quality by the standards of a normal numbered veent, it didn't exactly deliver on the hype that was expected for a one-of-a-kind spectacular. And while the list of matchups seems random with no discernible theme, such as USA vs. the world, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America's founding, White assures particular thought went into the fighters ultimately chosen for the card."The only thing I really cared about going into this card was having people I could depend on being on the card, fighters that you know," White said. "They're gonna deal with levels of stress and weird things that they're not used to. For instance, the night of the fight when they show up, they're gonna have to go through crazy security. We're gonna be inside rooms at the White House. They're used to going to arenas with rooms that are laid out for them and all this. "So, you need not only the best fights you could possibly make because they mean something and they matter in our ecosystem. You also need fighters you could trust that are gonna show up and deliver, and mentally and emotionally be able to deal with the different atmosphere they're gonna be in that night. And that is the card that we built."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Dana White reveals only thing that mattered about UFC White House card0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJackson Hawes earns national praise; can he step into larger role in Year 2?HOUSTON, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 20: Jackson Hawes #85 of the Buffalo Bills runs during an NFL football game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on November 20, 2025 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images) | Getty Images Buffalo Bills tight end Jackson Hawes had a really good rookie season in 2025, and an NFL.com writer recently gave the thunderous blocking tight end his props in a recent article on underappreciated players in the league. Shout out to NJT34 for throwing the link into The Feed yesterday. The 25-year-old second-year pro was a fifth-round pick out of Georgia Tech, where, of course, he thrived as a road-grading blocker. The same was true during his three-year stint at Yale before he transferred into the ACC. Altogether, Hawes caught 51 passes for 566 yards with six touchdowns (none with the Yellow Jackets) across four seasons in college. His coaching staffs at Yale and Georgia Tech understood early how Hawes could bring the most value to his respective teams — and that was as a dominant blocker. Just how valuable was Hawes during his rookie campaign with the Bills? He played on 43% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2025, the highest rate for a rookie picked in Round 3 or later in Buffalo since Gabe Davis appeared on 73.2% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2020.On those snaps, he blocked for the run 240 times, and while James Cook wasn’t running directly behind Hawes on all of those snaps, these are the cumulative statistics for the 2025 rushing champ when Hawes had a run-blocking role on the play, per SumerSports: 240 rushing attempts1,351 yards5.63 yards per carry11 rushing touchdowns That 1,351 yards represented 83.3% of Cook’s regular season rush-yard total. The Bills trusted Hawes quickly — just ask Josh Allen about that dot of a fourth-quarter throw to Hawes inside the 1-yard line during the comeback against the Ravens in Week 1 — and he regularly delivered. Sure, his role was niche, yet for a team that led the league in rushing attempts (by a wide margin) with 547 during the regular season, Hawes’ speciality was undoubtedly needed. Then there’s this comment from the original Feed Post, which brings me to a suggestion I feel there’s more Hawes can contribute as a receiver in Year 2 and beyond. Sample-size considerations must be made here — yet I can’t ignore how efficient Hawes was when thrown the football as a rookie, though he was sparingly utilized. Hawes ran just 102 pass routes in 2025. He registered 187 receiving yards, which equates to a 1.83 yards-per-route run figure. Is that good?It was the highest among all rookie tight ends who ran at least 75 pass routes in 2025. Back to sample-size considerations for a second — Colston Loveland and Oronde Gasdsen nearly ran four times the amount of routes as Hawes, and Harold Fannin ran more than four times as many. Those rookie tight ends rounded out the Top 4 in YPRR among rookie tight ends in 2025.The point remains — Hawes flashed enough receiving efficiency as a rookie while being thrust into a blocking specialist role that I can confidently write he earned more than the 19 targets he saw in his first season in Buffalo. Then again, just a few weeks ago, I wrote this on Hawes in my projection of how the Bills targets would be dispersed in 2026:20 – Miscellaneous targets to Ray Davis and Jackson Hawes – (mostly to the latter — I was keen on a Hawes mini breakout as a receiver, then Reggie Gilliam left in free agency.)The last few words in that projection are key — based on how the Joe Brady offense has operated the past 2.5 seasons, the Gilliam departure does hint at a stronger likelihood Hawes becomes more of a fullback/H-back than a hybrid blocker/receiver, but the truth is we don’t know how different Brady’s offense will be now that he’s head coach. If my projected 510 regular-season pass attempts for Allen is drastically too low, that conceivably could lead to more looks as a pass-catcher for Hawes in his second season in Buffalo. But, heck — even if Hawes remains an incidental element of the Bills aerial attack, there’s every reason to believe he’ll still provide major blocking value. And now, after a year to add more beef to his frame and sculpt muscle within the team’s strength and conditioning program, it’s sensible to assume Hawes improves as a blocker. That would be an equally marvelous development for the Bills as it would be frightening for opposing defensive ends, linebackers, and safeties.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Man United want to sign 21-year-old midfielder in £50m dealReport: Man United want to sign 21-year-old midfielder in £50m dealManchester United Transfer News: Mateus Fernandes Emerges as £50m Midfield TargetManchester United’s summer planning appears to be moving quickly, with Sports Boom reporting that Mateus Fernandes has been identified as a serious midfield option as Michael Carrick prepares to reshape his squad. The claim is striking because it places Manuel Ugarte’s future firmly under scrutiny. United paid £42.5million to sign the Uruguay international from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, but Sports Boom report that the club are now “prepared to cut their losses” after what they describe as a difficult spell at Old Trafford.Ugarte Exit Could Shape United’s Summer PlansUgarte arrived with a profile built on aggression, ball-winning and intensity. Yet the report states he has “failed to win over the Old Trafford faithful”, which reflects the wider feeling that United need more technical authority and control in midfield.Carrick’s side are back in the Champions League, and that changes the recruitment picture. United need starters, but they also need depth capable of surviving the rhythm of Europe, domestic cups and a demanding Premier League season. That is why midfield reinforcements are expected to be central to the summer strategy.Mateus Fernandes Offers Carrick Fresh Midfield EnergySports Boom report that West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is now “firmly into the frame”, with the 21-year-old Portugal international potentially available for around £50million.Photo IMAGOThat figure could prove significant. Elliot Anderson remains admired, but Nottingham Forest are expected to demand “£100million plus”. Aurélien Tchouaméni has also been linked, although a move for the Real Madrid midfielder would likely require a fee between £70million and £80million.Fernandes, then, may represent a more attainable route. He is young, technically sharp and carries the type of mobility Carrick is likely to value as he looks to build a midfield with more tempo and variety.Bruno Fernandes Influence Adds IntrigueOne detail from the report will catch supporters’ attention. United captain Bruno Fernandes is said to be “a huge fan of his fellow countryman” and views him as “the perfect fit” to bring fresh energy into Carrick’s midfield. That does not mean a deal is close, but dressing-room endorsement can matter. Bruno understands the demands of Old Trafford, the pace of English football and the standards required in a United midfield. If he believes Mateus Fernandes has the personality and talent to cope, that will only strengthen the argument internally.West Ham Relegation Could Open Transfer DoorThe wider context is also important. Sports Boom state that Fernandes is “desperate to stay in the top flight” following West Ham’s shock relegation to the Championship. A contractual clause could also help accelerate a move.United have monitored Carlos Baleba, Ederson and Adam Wharton, which suggests the club are exploring a wide midfield market rather than chasing one fixed target.Still, if Ugarte leaves and Fernandes becomes available at £50million, this feels like a situation worth watching closely. Carrick needs legs, quality and tactical intelligence. Fernandes may offer all three. Our View – EPL Index AnalysisFrom a Manchester United perspective, this is exactly the type of move that gets the pulse going. Michael Carrick knows midfield better than most, and if he is targeting Mateus Fernandes, there is every reason to believe he sees something more than just potential.United have needed a cleaner, sharper midfield profile for years. Ugarte had the reputation, the bite and the transfer fee, but it has not quite clicked. If Carrick is willing to be ruthless, that should excite fans rather than worry them.Fernandes feels like a proper modern United signing. Young, hungry, technically secure and already carrying international recognition with Portugal. Add in Bruno Fernandes reportedly rating him highly, and suddenly this looks like a deal with real dressing-room logic behind it.The £50million fee is not small, but compared to the numbers being discussed for Elliot Anderson and Tchouaméni, it could be smart business. United are back in the Champions League, and Carrick cannot afford passengers. He needs players who can press, pass, run and handle pressure. If West Ham’s relegation has created an opening, United should move decisively. Fernandes could become the kind of midfield signing supporters look back on as the moment Carrick’s rebuild truly started to take shape.0 Comentarios 0 Compartidas 48 Vistas 0 Reseñas

APNEWS.COMKey inflation gauge worsens, eroding Americans’ income and spending powerA motorist pumps fuel at a Shell station Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Englewood, Colo. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski, File)2026-05-28T12:39:15Z WASHINGTON (AP) — A key inflation gauge accelerated in April to the highest level in three years, the latest sign that spiking gas prices and higher food costs are squeezing Americans’ finances. Inflation jumped to 3.8% in April compared with a year ago, the Commerce Department said Thursday, up from 3.5% in March and the highest since May 2023. On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.4%, down from the 0.7% jump in March. The report showed that prices have risen for many items in addition to gas, indicating that inflation could persist and pose problems for congressional Republicans in this year’s midterm elections. Inflation is also notably above the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%, which means Fed policymakers may decide to forego any cuts to their key short-term interest rate this year. Some officials have signaled that their next move could be a hike rather than a cut. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core inflation rose to 3.3% in April from 3.2% the previous month. It is the highest core figure since November 2023. One positive sign in the report: Core prices rose just 0.2% in April from March. Higher prices are also cutting into consumers’ incomes, which were unchanged in April from March. Adjusted for inflation, incomes actually slipped 0.1% last month. CHRISTOPHER RUGABER Rugaber has covered the Federal Reserve and the U.S. economy for the AP for 16 years.
