SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGT vs RR, IPL 2026 Qualifier 2: What happens if rain washes out the match in Mullanpur?Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals Qualifier 2 comes to a threat by rain during the match, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, fans are naturally wondering what happens if the weather has the final say.Temperatures will comfortably hover around 29°C to 31°C as the game progresses. The 20% chance of isolated passing showers between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM means a minor, temporary interruption or delayed toss is possible, but a complete washout is highly unlikely. While forecasts suggest only a slight chance of interruptions, the IPL has a clear contingency plan in place for knockout matches.Extra Time and Reduced OversThe IPL has allocated an additional 120 minutes of buffer time for playoff matches. If rain delays the start or interrupts play, officials will first attempt to complete a shortened match by reducing the number of overs. A minimum of five overs per side is required to constitute a valid result.League Table Position Decides the FinalistIf the weather deteriorates to the point where not even a Super Over can be completed, the match will be officially abandoned. In that scenario, the team that finished higher on the IPL 2026 league-stage points table automatically progresses to the final.League Stage Standings: Gujarat Titans: 2nd place, 18 pointsRajasthan Royals: 4th place, 16 pointsTherefore, a complete washout would see Gujarat Titans advance directly to the IPL 2026 Final, where they would face Royal Challengers Bengaluru.Gujarat Titans Squad: Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill(c), Jos Buttler(w), Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, Jason Holder, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya, Glenn Phillips, Anuj Rawat, Kumar Kushagra, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Luke Wood, Connor Esterhuizen, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Shahrukh Khan, Manav Suthar, Arshad Khan, Gurnoor Brar, Ashok SharmaRajasthan Royals Squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel(w), Riyan Parag(c), Donovan Ferreira, Dasun Shanaka, Ravindra Jadeja, Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Sushant Mishra, Brijesh Sharma, Yash Raj Punja, Shubham Dubey, Aman Rao Perala, Ravi Bishnoi, Tushar Deshpande, Adam Milne, Shimron Hetmyer, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kwena Maphaka, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Sen, Yudhvir Singh Charak, Emanjot Singh Chahal, Vignesh Puthur0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMInfielder Red Sox Traded Away For Garrett Crochet Quietly Turning Into Star While Marcelo Mayer StrugglesInfielder Red Sox Traded Away For Garrett Crochet Quietly Turning Into Star While Marcelo Mayer Struggles originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox acquired Garrett Crochet before the start of last season, and one of the prospects they traded away is quietly turning into a star. The Red Sox traded Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez to the Chicago White Sox. Teel was the headline prospect going back to Chicago, and in 78 games last season, he looked like he could be a great player for years to come. However, Meidroth is also establishing himself as a big leaguer.Last season, Meidroth made his debut and hit .253 with a .659 OPS. While he showed some flashes, this season he is looking like a much better player, and is helping the White Sox outplay their low expectations. They are currently in postseason position, although there is plenty of season left to play.Meidroth is hitting .269 with a .732 OPS this year. He has a fielding run value of plus-three and an outs above average of plus-one. He has five home runs, already matching last season's total. He is fifth on the team in RBIs.Meidroth was the Red Sox's No. 19 prospect when they traded him. They were likely comfortable trading him, knowing they were getting an ace and they had Marcelo Mayer, who was the No. 1 prospect in the organization at the time. Mayer was the No. 15 prospect in all of baseball at the time.He was projected to be a better big leaguer than Meidroth, but so far, that has not been the case. Meidroth has played in 82 more games than Mayer as a big leaguer so far, but even just this season, the numbers are not close. Meidroth has 22 more hits in just four more games played. He has a better average, on-base percentage and OPS. The only thing Mayer has done better is steal bags. Mayer has three stolen bases to Meidroth's two.The Red Sox likely do not regret dealing Meidroth since they got Crochet in return. However, they may feel frustrated seeing Meidroth help the White Sox play great while their own team is still trying to get on a roll.More MLB: How Former Red Sox Ace Chris Sale Reacted To Fenway Park Return0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat will be the new winning formula for Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla? What will be the new winning formula for Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla? So far, the Celtics have found a fair amount of success playing the 3-point heavy style of play that has come to be known as "Mazzulla Ball". But it has also seen the NBA learn a lot of ways to make life difficult for a Celtics squad that has been playing this way long enough for effective counters to be devised by their opponents.Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens effectively said that the Celtics need to change up how they play as well after Boston's first-round exit at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2026 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs. So what will Mazzulla come up with next for the Celtics? The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip taking a closer look at how the team might change how they play in the future. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNew Zealand steamrolls Ireland by an innings and 79 runs in England tour tune-upBELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — New Zealand completed its match preparation for the England tour by beating Ireland by an innings and 79 runs in a one-off test at Stormont on Friday.Ireland was bowled out for 232 in the second innings just before tea on day three of the four-day test.Blair Tickner starred with his first test five-for, 5-76, in his fifth match. Fellow seamer Nathan Smith started the day with five maidens and took 2-53 and eight wickets in the match.“We like coming over to this part of the world,” skipper Tom Latham said when asked about their confidence going into the three tests with England starting next Thursday at Lord's.“We have a good opportunity to put our best foot forward, play our brand of cricket, and if we do that we know we will give ourselves a good chance.”In reply to New Zealand's 490-8 declared, Ireland was dismissed for 179 on Thursday and forced to follow on, and began the day at 65-2 with a target of 312.A team with three debutants, missing its best player Paul Stirling, and playing its first home test in nearly two years dug the foxhole a little deeper in order to endure New Zealand's pace attack.Nightwatchman Thomas Mayes lasted only five overs then Tickner got Harry Tector to edge to second slip.Stephen Doheny, 36 overnight, reached his maiden test fifty off 96 balls. Then Curtis Campher retired hurt with a suspected broken left hand hit by a Ben Sears delivery.A Tickner snorter prised out Doheny for 57 and Ireland was 131-5 but effectively six wickets down when lunch was taken a few minutes early because of drizzle.Ireland scored only 66 runs in 29.1 overs in the morning session and lost four wickets.Lorcan Tucker counterattacked for his fourth test fifty off 69 balls then was out next ball to a Smith bouncer, and the end came quickly to the only test of Ireland's summer.___AP cricket: https://apnews.com/hub/cricket0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWinners and losers of the NBA's new anti-tanking rulesThe NBA on Thursday announced its new anti-tanking rules, which will expand the lottery from 14 to 16 teams, further flatten odds and penalize teams with the three worst records. The new rules will be implemented for the 2027 draft and run through 2029. The league’s board of governors will determine in 2030 whether to keep the new rules or reform again.Teams that fail to make the playoffs or play-in tournament will each receive three lottery balls for next year’s drawing, except for the three teams with the worst records. They will instead get two lottery balls, as will the four play-in teams that fail to make the playoffs. The eighth seed from each conference will also receive one lottery ball apiece.Furthermore, no team’s pick can land No. 1 overall in successive drafts or top-five in three consecutive drafts, regardless of which team owns that pick. The San Antonio Spurs, for example, could not have picked Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper in three straight drafts, as they did, respectively, at Nos. 1, 4 and 2 in 2023, 2024 and 2025.The winners and losers of these new rules, then …People attend the NBA basketball draft lottery in Chicago, Sunday, May 10, 2026. (AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh)ASSOCIATED PRESSWinner: The viewing publicThis may not totally end tanking, but it should put a serious dent in it.Franchises will not want to finish in what the NBA is calling “the relegation zone” (or with one of the three worst records in the league), and it should be fun watching those mostly young teams — and the Sacramento Kings, probably — trying to scrap their way out of it.Might an organization tank its way out of a play-in tournament and into three lottery balls (instead of two)? Sure. But at least that won’t be happening with two months to go in the regular season. And you’d have to talk your players out of vying for their playoff bonuses. What would really be a shame is if we see tanking in the play-in tournament. But, again, you’d have to talk a coach and his players (a team like this year’s Philadelphia 76ers) out of competing for a seventh seed — and risking missing the entire playoffs entirely — just for a single lottery ball (and a 2.7% chance at the No. 1 pick). Seems far-fetched. But possible.Loser: The ping-pong ball industryThe viewing public also wins because the actual lottery drawing could now be televised. Instead of the (complicated) existing system, which from a closed-door room draws four numbered combinations from a thousand ping-pong balls, we’ll just have what I assume will be a lotto-style drawing from 37 team-branded ping-pong balls, streaming live to you.Somewhere a ping-pong ball salesman’s quota just got harder to reach. The NBA, meanwhile, can donate all its spare numbered ping-pong balls to the nearest frat house.Winner: Most draft picksA ton of draft picks just became more valuable. The seven teams with three lottery balls (i.e., the teams with the fourth- through 10th-worst records): 8.1% chance at the No. 1 overall pick, 24% shot at a top-three pick, 39% chance at a top-five selection and 73% shot at the top 10. (Previously only six teams had better than 8% odds at the top pick in the lottery.)The seven teams with two lottery balls (the three teams with the worst records and the four play-in teams that fail to make the playoffs): 5.4% chance at the No. 1 overall pick, 16% shot at a top-three pick, 28% chance at a top-five selection and 59% chance at a top-five selection. (While previously only seven teams had a 28% chance at a top-five pick, now twice as many teams get that opportunity.)The two teams with one lottery ball (the eighth seeds from each conference): 2.7% chance at the No. 1 overall pick, 8% shot at a top-three pick, 15% chance at a top-five selection and 35% shot at the top 10. (While previously only 10 teams had a 35% opportunity at the top 10, now all 16 teams in the lottery get that shot.)Consider, say, the ninth spot in the draft lottery. This season, it was the Chicago Bulls, who had a 4.5% chance at the No. 1 overall pick and a 20.3% chance of landing in the top four (which they ultimately did, hitting on No. 4). Under the new flattened lottery odds, they would have had significantly higher chances of landing No. 1 (8.1%) or top 4 (32%).One year, if we continue this lotto-style reform, a contender will land the No. 1 overall pick, and maybe then they consider further restrictions, but this is a step in the right direction.Loser: Memphis GrizzliesThe Grizzlies own an unprotected pick in next year’s draft from the Utah Jazz, courtesy of this year’s Jaren Jackson Jr. trade. But because the Jazz selected Ace Bailey with the No. 5 pick in last year’s draft, and they own the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, that 2027 pick can no longer fall in the top-five. Memphis surely wishes it knew this rule in February. That is precisely why the Grizzlies were reportedly the lone dissenting vote among the NBA’s 30 teams at Thursday’s board of governors meeting, even as they support reform. It does seem rather unfair that the best asset the Grizzlies got in return for Jackson just arbitrarily became less valuable because of this vote. Dozens of other unprotected picks, which have already been traded, are also potentially impacted by this same new system.Could the NBA’s owners not have grandfathered in picks that had already been traded?Winner: ProspectsIn the past, there was a pretty good chance, if you were an elite prospect, you were going to join a team that was just trying to lose and may still have been trying to lose again with you on the roster. Now, those incentives have been largely wiped away, and there is a far greater chance that you land on a team that isn’t as far away from contention, if not in it.Loser: The ProcessNo longer can teams intentionally lose as many games as possible, as was the case for former executive Sam Hinkie’s Philadelphia 76ers, who gave themselves great odds of landing the Nos. 3, 3, 1 and 1 picks in the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 drafts, respectively.Team-building, in general, just became harder. The second apron has made everything more restrictive, and not only is there a salary cap on free agency, but the new rules make it more difficult to plan on building through the draft itself and through trades, since the value of a team’s own draft picks just skyrocketed. Might we see less player movement?Winner: San Antonio SpursSure, great scouting got them Castle, but it really was the luck of the draw that landed them Wembanyama three years ago and Harper this past year, and no longer will anyone be able to build their team in such a manner. Just as it becomes more difficult to plan for team-building, the Spurs will field a 22-year-old Wembanyama, a 21-year-old Castle and a 20-year-old Harper against a league that can no longer follow its plan toward contention.Loser: Fans of the three worst teamsNot only must they watch a futile team fall to the bottom of the standings, but there is no longer the reward for spectators at the end of the tunnel. Instead, their favorite team will lose a lottery ball, and now its draft selection could fall all the way down to as low as 12th.Winner: Adam SilverThe commissioner is entering his NBA’s championship round juggling a lot of issues — the Aspiration and gambling scandals, tanking and flopping among them — and before we have even gotten to Game 1 of the Finals he has now addressed one of them in a major way. Now, Silver gets to watch as the New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander potentially exacerbate the flopping issue in a title tilt, but at least he will have one less thing to worry about if, indeed, he watches the league’s biggest media market contend with the very real possibility of a back-to-back champion. As part of the new anti-tanking rules, Silver will also have the “added ability to reduce teams’ lottery odds, modify teams’ draft positions and impose significant fines,” the NBA announced. Normally, it is a dubious thing to give one person with incredible power more of it, but if you’re Silver, you’ll take the win and the added responsibility that comes with it.Loser: The second roundAs if the second round of the NBA draft, with all its trades and pick protections, isn’t complicated enough, under new rules the first 16 picks of the second round will be in inverse order of the first round. Likewise, the final 14 picks of the second round will also be in inverse order — of regular-season record. Understand all that? Me neither, really.Winner: RandomnessHey, if you like things to be more random, consider yourself a winner.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSummer Recruiting Heats Up for Alabama FootballAug 31, 2024; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer leads his players onto the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium for his first game as head coach. The Crimson Tide played Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Mandatory Credit: Gary Cosby Jr.-Imagn Images It may be the off-season for college football, but coaches and players are not sitting around sipping cocktails on a beach. Offseason workouts and strength & conditioning sessions are officially voluntary, but you have to think that teams like Alabama are likely getting 100% participation. Coaches can lead summer instruction but are limited to 8 hours per week total. The real task of the staff right now is recruiting for the future. A Quiet Period began on Thursday and runs until June 21. Then it all shuts down until July 31. At that point, teams are really starting to gear up for their 2026 season. The next three plus weeks are vital to recruiting.COMMITTEDAlabama currently only has six commits to the Class of 2027. Oddly enough, two of them are quarterbacks. Even so, it is a good start.QB Elijah Haven, Baton Rouge, LA (6-5/215) – 5-star – In three seasons, Haven has more than 9,000 yards passing, nearly 2,400 yards rushing and 178 total touchdowns.LB Kenneth Simon, Brentwood, TN (6-2/210) – 4-star – A top 150 player and the #7 overall linebacker according to 247.QB Trent Seaborn, Thompson HS, Alabaster, AL (6-1/200) – 4-star – Will be joining Haven for this summer’s Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles.EDGE Avrian Pauley, Mobile, AL (6-5/265) – 3-star – The UA staff evaluated him much higher than the 3-star ranking he has been given. His offer list included Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Tennessee among others. He has potential to play Bandit.EDGE/LB Stevan Thornton Cairo, GA (6-3 or 6-5/194 or 200) – 3 star – Nobody seems to know this guy’s measurements. Despite what looks undersized, he is a wanted man. He had 91 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and eight sacks during his junior season. He also has offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee among others. Thornton clearly will need to put on some weight before participation in SEC football but he’s explosive getting off the ball. From Andrew Bone: “he has some rare bend and dip getting around the edge for a young player with that kind of size. He has excellent closing speed, can plant and change direction, and shows some real athletic flexibility as well.”TE Oakley Keegan, Liverpool, NY (6-6.75/230) – 3-star – According to Bone: “He missed his entire junior season after tearing his Achilles during the Tide’s camp last summer. The UA staff was fortunate to see the 6-foot-7, 230-pounder perform before the injury, which is the main culprit behind his low ranking.”VISITINGIn T-town right now:WR Monshun Sales, 5-star, Indianapolis, IN (6-3/209) – It’s going to be tough to get him to spurn the home state Hoosiers. But if IU proves to be a one-hit wonder this fall, look out. At least he is visiting.CB Hayden Stepp, 4/5-star, Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas (6-3/175) – This top prospect fits the mold of the big corners that Alabama wants. The Tide is thought to be leading for his services. Bishop Gorman grad Derek Meadows will surely help recruiting.WR Osani Gayles, high 4-star, Tracy, Calif./IMG (5-10.5/185) – Bama is in the thick of things with this top 50 prospect. Committing June 27.DL Mitchell Turner, high 4-star, Louisville, MS (6-1.5/285) – Kalen DeBoer’s staff has made great inroads into the Magnolia State. They are favored to land this gem.EDGE Antwan Jackson, 3/4-star Collierville, TN (6-6/240) – Athletic Edge rusher also plays pure linebacker and tight end. 7 QBH, 5.5 sacks, 3 FF and 1 INT as a junior.RB Nigel Newkirk, 3-star, Gainesville, GA (5-11/185) – 14 games with 1,496 yards and 19 TDs on 184 rushes (8.1 ypc). LSU, Ohio State, and Michigan are finalists with Alabama. He might be a little underrated. Committing July 1.CB Darrius White, 3-star, Fairburn, GA (6-3/175) – Another jumbo corner on the Tide’s radar. Committing on our country’s 250th birthday. LB Kenneth Simon (Alabama commit) DL AJ Pauley (Alabama commit) COMMITTING?Two 4-star running backs are said to be close to committing. Nigel Newkirk (see above) and 3-star Tai Phillips from Columbia, SC (5-11/190) might be the next to pop. Newkirk is visiting Tuscaloosa this weekend. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrench Open to take action against Vallejo for 'sexist' remarksAdolfo Daniel Vallejo was playing in a Grand Slam main draw for the first time [Getty Images]The French Open says it will "significantly fine" Adolfo Daniel Vallejo after he made "unacceptable" and "sexist" comments about a female umpire.Vallejo, 22, said second-round match at Roland Garros should not have been umpired by Brazil's Ana Carvalho as women do not have the "courage" to handle the crowd. The Paraguayan world number 71 lost to French teenager Moise Kouame on Court Suzanne-Lenglen on Thursday, with the 17-year-old receiving vocal support in a near five-hour 6-3 7-5 2-6 2-6 7-6 (10-8) victory.Vallejo criticised umpire Ana Carvalho of Brazil for being unable to control the "annoying" and "disrespectful" crowd.French Open organisers said they "strongly condemn all sexist remarks"."The competence of an umpire is not determined by their gender, but by their professionalism and ability to officiate at the highest level," added the French Tennis Federation (FFT)."The outcome of a sporting event, whether positive or negative, can never justify or excuse such remarks."According to the Grand Slam rulebook, Vallejo could receive a fine of up to $100,000 (£74,200) for unsportsmanlike conduct.Vallejo also said he was unhappy with how much time Kouame was given in between points.Players are only allowed to take up to 25 seconds between points, but umpires can use their discretion as to when to start the shot clock while the crowd settles down."I think this sort of matches should be umpired by a man," Vallejo told Clay magazine in an interview listened to and verified by BBC Sport."It's very difficult for a woman to do it because the crowd is very annoying and you need to have a lot of courage to go against the crowd."I knew it [the crowd] was going to be like that. It didn't harm me, it only strengthened him."Asked whether having a male umpire would have made a difference, Vallejo added: "Yes, yes, absolutely. The crowd was really disrespectful, but I understand it because they are supporting their home player."Vallejo has since taken to social media to defend his comments, stating on X that they have been "taken out of context" and he was referring to Carvalho specifically, rather than all female umpires. The French Open added: "The tournament strongly condemns all sexist remarks, regardless of who makes them, and offers its support to the match umpire and, more broadly, to all the tournament's umpiring officials."The Grand Slam rulebook states that players "shall at all times conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner and give due regard to the authority of officials and the rights of opponents, spectators and others".Is more Grand Slam woe for Brits a worry for Wimbledon?Players call for sponsorship boards removal after injury0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho Says No? Red Sox-Angels Mike Trout Blockbuster ProposalLos Angeles Angels star Mike TroutThe Boston Red Sox are going to need to be bold if they want to turn the 2026 Major League Baseball season around. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has already acknowledged that he has had discussions with teams about potential trades to improve Boston's offense. Boston desperately needs more firepower and specifically from the right side of the plate. But who should the Red Sox target? Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros is someone who will likely get talked about a lot. He was connected to Boston this past offseason and would be a clear upgrade at a position of need. He's an obvious option. But Boston should be aiming even higher. The guy who would be a dream target is Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout. It's important to note that Trout has a no-trade clause and has given no indication that he wants to leave Los Angeles, despite the fact that the Angels are 22-35 and have shown no signs of turning this thing around. Trout has four seasons left on his 12-year, $426.5 million deal. That's just over $37.1 million per year. He's also 34 years old and injury-prone. But he has been excellent so far this season. He has played in 56 games and is slashing .239/.405/.487 with an .892 OPS, 13 homers, 30 RBIs, and a league-leading 52 walks. Trout is a generational talent, and it also wouldn't hurt for Roman Anthony to learn from one of the league's best. Overall, Trout would bring a much-needed big right-handed bat to town and he has been known throughout his career as a leader and great clubhouse guy. Boston has a young team. Getting a person like Trout into the clubhouse would be incredible. So, what should an offer look like? Red Sox Receive: OF Mike Trout, cashAngels Receive: OF Jarren Duran, RHP Kyson Witherspoon (Boston's No. 3 prospect), INF Mikey Romero (Boston's No. 11 prospect)In this scenario, the Red Sox would get the righty Trout plus cash to offset some of his contract. Maybe something in the $50 million range. In exchange for Trout and paying down some of his contract, the Angels would get a younger and cheaper outfielder in Duran, a top pitching prospect, and a former first-round pick in Romero?Do you have a take to get off your chest? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMatthew Stafford named a top regression candidate in 2026 by PFFIn 2025, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford had one of the more efficient seasons of his NFL career, tossing a league-leading 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns, while only throwing eight interceptions in the regular season and one in the playoffs. With Stafford returning for the 2026 season, Pro Football Focus' Mark Chichester has named Stafford as a top candidate for a regression, stating that Stafford is likely to throw more interceptions this season compared to last year.Chichester's point comes down to the number of times Stafford threw interception-worthy passes that weren't picked last season, while arguing Stafford's efficiency would be unprecedented if it continues into 2026.At this point, Stafford’s relationship with positive interception variance has become a story of its own. His 2024 season ranks as the luckiest in the entire 10-year dataset (+7.3 net luck), while his 2025 season ranks third (+6.8). Producing two consecutive seasons at the extreme top of the interception-luck leaderboard is already highly unusual. A third straight year would be virtually unprecedented based on the historical data, which offers little evidence that this type of variance is sustainable. The numbers make the regression case difficult to ignore. Stafford generated 21 turnover-worthy throws in 2025, a total that would normally translate to just over 10 interceptions at league-average conversion rates. Only eight were intercepted, while defenders dropped nine additional would-be picks. He also threw just one interception on 695 non-turnover-worthy attempts, despite league-average outcomes projecting closer to five or six. Altogether, Stafford finished with only nine interceptions on a passing profile that league-average variance would typically push closer to the 15- or 16-interception range. While Stafford could see an uptick in interceptions, two factors that are currently in play could keep the ball out of defenders' hands. Stafford has only thrown more than eight interceptions in the regular season twice during his Rams career. That was in his first and third seasons with the team. Stafford's complex understanding of the McVay offense has clearly translated into an efficient passing attack. He no longer needs to play the type of "hero ball" he did in Detroit, allowing him to be more conservative with his choices. Also, when the Rams had most of their weapons and ran their 13 personnel to maximum efficiency, Stafford had a five-game run with 18 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Rams are expected to use 13 personnel heavily in 2026 after re-signing Tyler Higbee and drafting Max Klare. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Rams QB Matthew Stafford named a top regression candidate in 20260 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Toone is navigating grief through football[Getty Images]There will be an empty chair at Ella Toone's wedding this summer. The England and Manchester United midfielder is preparing to walk down the aisle without her dad Nick - the man she dedicates every goal to and credits as the "main reason" where she is in her career. In a new BBC documentary, 24 Hours with Ella Toone, she opens up on grief and navigating that as a professional athlete, while also ensuring her father's legacy and being a "pioneer for women's football" is now helping the next generation.Toone knew that hours after every match, she would always get a phone call from Nick.He and her mum, Karen, would always come to watch Toone's matches, but Nick also recorded them on TV so he could have another look when he got home before calling his daughter for a "debrief on the whole game"."He was just obsessed," says the 26-year-old. "He loved women's football more than he loved watching the men's game. He knew all the players, he was passionate about where I was in my career, the team that I had, the way we were playing."He would go into any pub and talk about women's football and talk about me."Toone adds her dad was "the driving force" behind her football, taking her up and down the country for club matches and travelling abroad for England games."Me and dad were all about football, that was our thing that we had together," she reveals. "He was probably one of the first people that really saw potential in me."The day after Toone scored in England's 2-1 win over Germany in the 2022 European Championship final, she had no idea her dad had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer as he had only told his wife and brother."He didn't want anyone worrying about him," she explains. "He wasn't well throughout the tournament. I'm finding out more and more about it now that he's not here."It was not until the day after her Manchester United team won the FA Cup final at Wembley in May 2024 that she learned he was ill."I feel like every time I won something, something bad came after," she says.Nick died three days before his 60th birthday - five after Toone turned 25 - in September 2024. The following day she was back in training."I went straight back into football because I knew that's what he would have wanted," she says."I started the first game at Old Trafford, it was really difficult, but I felt like that's what I needed to do in that moment. I needed to play, I couldn't just be sat around moping about, thinking about it all the time. I knew he would have been there and been watching."But Toone admits she was not really processing her grief at that point and was only able to do so when a calf injury in November forced her to take time off."I think it was my body telling me to stop before I would have had a mental breakdown," she recalls. After two months away from the game, during which Toone saw a counsellor and took a holiday in Dubai, she returned for Manchester United's 7-0 FA Cup win over West Brom in January. She scored with a stunning long-range strike - which she describes as "decent" but later voted her team's goal of the season - and pointed to the sky in tribute to mark her first goal since Nick's death."Obviously every goal I score now, I dedicate to dad but that just felt like a relief," says Toone."The first few months of playing, I was putting on so much pressure on myself. I wanted to score for him. I wasn't letting myself relax and enjoy the game, I was trying to be the person that my family could rely on, on the pitch."She says the enforced time off the pitch had also been good for her wider family and friends. They found it difficult watching her because matchdays had always been "their time with dad".Toone dedicates all her goals to her dad [Getty Images]Toone says she would not have got through the past couple of years without her fiance Joe Bunney, who was a "rock" to her family while also dealing with his own grief for a man Toone describes as his "bestie".The pair were so close that Bunney took on Nick's dream of creating a girls' football academy when the former Rochdale player's own career came to an end in 2025.Bunney, who played at various lower league clubs after his career at Bolton Wanderers was derailed in 2019 when he suffered injuries in a car crash just a week after signing for them, says: "Ella and her dad said, 'let's do an academy'."I was coming towards the end of my career, I had a little bit more time so I said, 'I'll put all my eggs in this basket and try and build something'."They set up the ET7 Academy, where he says "standards tend to go through the roof" when Toone comes to watch."Nick absolutely loved it, seeing these young girls come through and playing football. It was almost like he was reliving Ella's life again," adds Bunney. "That's where my passion came from."Toone is "really proud" of her fiance and says he "sacrifices a lot"."The academy bought us together even though it is very stressful," she adds. "I think his hard work goes unnoticed but definitely not by me."Setting up the academy is part of dad's legacy. He loved being part of something that he knew would help young girls have opportunities."Alessia Russo (right) will be Toone's maid of honour - a year after they won a second European Championship together [Getty Images]Toone told Bunney she was never getting married, nor having children, when her dad passed away."I look back and I think, 'why would I not do that?'. He (dad) would love me to do those things," she says. And so Toone finds herself in full swing for her July wedding, where there will be "a lot of mixed emotions".She has asked her uncle Dan to walk her down the aisle and will put a cap on what would be her dad's chair at the wedding. And despite the tables of footballers, and her England team-mate Alessia Russo as maid of honour, Toone is "trying to keep the day away from football"."Anything related to football songs is banned," explains Bunney, 32. "All her family singing United songs and my mates singing [Manchester] City songs, it's not happening."Depending on where Thomas Tuchel's England team finish in the group stages of the men's World Cup, they may potentially be playing on the day of the wedding."Hopefully that doesn't take away from the day," adds Toone."I am obsessed with football but I don't think I'll be watching it on my wedding day."If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this story you can visit BBC Action Line.Watch 24 Hours with Ella Toone on BBC iPlayer0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDid the Fever miss a wide-open Caitlin Clark on bungled last-second sequence in loss? The Indiana Fever trailed the Golden State Valkyries late in the fourth quarter of their meeting on Thursday, May 28. Still, thanks to a Sophie Cunningham layup off a Caitlin Clark assist, it was a one-point game with just under 18 seconds remaining. After a Gabby Williams made free throw, the Fever retained possession down by two points with 16.3 seconds on the clock, and naturally, many expected Clark to get the final look. However, the last play of the game didn't go as expected. Aliyah Boston had the ball inside and a strongly defended attempt was off-target, leading to a jump ball. Although the Valkyries ultimately held on to win 90-88, the big question among fans was whether Boston missed an open Clark near the three-point line.Fever down 2 with 10 seconds leftCaitlin Clark: "I'm WIDE OPEN!"Her teammates: pic.twitter.com/3jWL13SkYx— BrickCenter (@BrickCenter_) May 29, 2026Clark wasn't actually heard saying "I'm wide open" in that clip, but from the look of the play and her entering the frame from the top of the 3-point line, it appeared that a defender was floating near her. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Did the Fever miss a wide-open Caitlin Clark on bungled last-second sequence?0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMWhite House official says James Talarico has less testosterone than a Black womanA White House official continued with attacks on Senate candidate and Texas state Rep. James Talarico’s (D) masculinity on Thursday evening, saying that he’s “transitioning to a woman,” that his blood is soy milk, and that he has less testosterone than Black Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). Republicans have been attacking Talarico’s masculinity all week as he faces Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in the general election and has shown signs that he could win. Republicans have been calling him transgender, saying that he is dating a man (he is not), and calling him a “freak” and a “creep,” words often used to attack LGBTQ+ people. Related African soccer player barred from tournament because her testosterone levels are too high White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said earlier this week that Talarico is the Democrats’ “first transgender senate candidate.” The DNC’s X account called Miller an “ugly f**k” in response, and Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, had a public meltdown over the vulgarity of the response. But Miller isn’t letting up. Last night, he went on Fox News and told host Jesse Watters – who has a long history of discussing his personal insecurities with masculinity on air – that Talarico is “clearly transitioning into a female.” Your LGBTQ+ guide to Election 2024 Stay ahead of the 2024 Election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “When Talarico goes in for a blood test, when he gets a physical, blood doesn’t come out; instead, soy milk comes out,” Miller said flatly as Watters laughed hysterically. “This man has less testosterone than Jasmine Crockett. It is a mind-boggling choice.” Miller continued, joking that Talarico “doesn’t belong in the Senate but in a cabaret show,” which was a homophobic joke since gay people are often associated with musical theater. Miller then said that Texans are “some of the toughest, roughest, strongest men and women,” so they will naturally vote for “a real conservative, patriotic, god-fearing, and truly be loved statewide figure” like Paxton instead of “somebody with that much soy” like Talarico. Soybeans have long been the subject of pseudoscientific claims that they reduce people’s testosterone levels. While not true, conservatives have latched on to soybeans as a symbol of femininity. Stephen Miller: "It's very bold that Democrats would choose Texas to nominate their first transgender Senate candidate who's transitioning into a female. When Talarico goes in for a blood test, blood doesn't come out, instead soy milk comes out. This man has less testosterone than Jasmine Crockett."— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-05-29T13:54:26.581Z Black women have long faced insults for not meeting white people’s standards of femininity, often portrayed in the media as “aggressive, masculine, confrontational, hostile, and unable to regulate their emotions.” Sports that test for hormonal levels disproportionately exclude Black women athletes for not meeting their requirements. And Crockett herself has been a lightning rod for Republican invective. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPhillies' J.T. Realmuto urged to make one major catching changePhillies' J.T. Realmuto urged to make one major catching change originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. With the new ABS challenge system introduced in the Majors in 2026, both hitters and fielders are adjusting to the new process. Of course, the Philadelphia Phillies are a part of that group. Some Phillies players are challenging at a much higher rate than others. Philadelphia's pitching staff signaled for a challenge just seven times as of Thursday. Phillies catchers have been successful, but their starting backstop, J.T. Realmuto, may not be challenging nearly as often as he should be. "Phillies catchers have won 25 of their 39 challenges. Realmuto is 14-4 on his challenges. He has one of the best success rates in the sport," The Athletic's Matt Gelb wrote. "But he’s challenging way less than most catchers. Put it this way: Realmuto has caught the ninth-most innings in MLB but had the 47th-most challenges among catchers as of Thursday," Gelb added. "Even Rafael Marchán, who has caught 166 fewer innings, has challenged more than Realmuto." MORE: Ex-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successPerhaps the Phillies coaching staff will urge Realmuto to challenge more pitches. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC Macau preview and predictions: Song Yadong or Deiveson Figueiredo — who wins? The UFC is staying international with its Fight Night roadshow. This time, Macau, China, gets its fifth event in the promotion’s history on Saturday, May 30.Strangely enough, the show marks the second time Brazil’s former two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figuiredo has headlined in China. On the opposite end, China’s Song Yadong hasn’t fought in his home country since the UFC’s visit to Beijing in 2018. He looks to rebound from a loss to Sean O’Malley in January and remain a fixture in the bantamweight rankings in his first main event at home.UFC Macau is unsurprisingly littered with hometown flair and plenty of exciting matchups for the Chinese crowd to get behind. It’s not the strongest card, but even in the more random, non-Chinese bouts, there’s decent name value.👑 UFC Macau’s lineup Crown grade: C. 👑Song Yadong gets his first hometown headliner bout.Jeff Bottari via Getty Images135 pounds: Song Yadong (-600) vs. Deiveson Figueiredo (+425)Figueiredo, as accomplished as he is, appears to have reached the “shell” stage of his career. That’s sad to see, but at age 38 and in a weight class above the one where he initially won UFC gold, it comes as no surprise.“Deus da Guerra” hasn’t been getting completely obliterated by his opposition, only losing to the 135-pound class’ cream of the crop. But he’s clearly been a step behind in his recent bouts, and that will remain true against Song. The Chinese striking sensation will have the same speed advantage that he typically carries into most matchups. Combine that with some cracking power and solid combinations, and he’ll present problems for Figueiredo at every turn. The grappling element will be huge for the Brazilian to lean on, but Song has sured up his takedown defense nicely against grapplers who aren’t able to mix up their overall game and hang with him on the feet. His win over Henry Cejudo was a great recent example.Figueiredo and Cejudo aren’t overly comparable in style, but in terms of where they’ve been in their respective careers at the times of their respective Song matchups, there are some similarities. Figueiredo carries more power in his punches than Cejudo, but landing decisively on the perpetually durable Song won’t be easy.I hate to count out Figueiredo. But there’s just no reason to believe he’s an elite-tier competitor anymore, particularly at bantamweight.Pick: Song205 pounds: Zhang Mingyang (-250) vs. Alonzo Menifield (+200)The UFC Macau co-main event has finish written all over it.Alonzo Menifield has long been a bit of an odd case at light heavyweight — a guy who clearly has great knockout power, but doesn’t always find the finish and is susceptible to getting bolted himself. Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, that makes a fight with Zhang Mingyang fun for as long as it lasts. The Chinese knockout artist has been a straight-up bruiser throughout his UFC run — until he met Johnny Walker in his last fight. Zhang will look to rebound from that letdown performance at the last UFC event in China, and Menifield is a tailor-made opponent for Zhang to add a 20th first-round finish win to his résumé.Yeah, you read that right. This guy has only won in the first round.Pick: Zhang265 pounds: Sergei Pavlovich (-650) vs. Tallison Teixeira (+475)The days of Sergei Pavlovich being a top contender feel so long ago. Yet he is, realistically, still very much one. Those thrilling quick finishes have simply faded since Tom Aspinall dispatched the Russian for interim gold in late 2023.Luckily for Pavlovich, he’s lined up to take on Temu Stefan Struve.Pavlovich may not be finishing his opponents as of late, but he’s still winning handily. Teixeira’s last “win” over Tai Tuivasa entirely exposed him and removed any possible faith I had in his future until proven otherwise. The fight was, generously put, abusive to the eyes. And Teixeira looked like a freshly woken giraffe on laughing gas in the final half of the bout. Should he fade again, Pavlovich will finally get back to his finishing ways.Pick: PavlovichKai Asakura is still in search of his first UFC win after a successful run in RIZIN.Jeff Bottari via Getty Images135 pounds: Kai Asakura (-300) vs. Cameron Smotherman (+240)UFC’s underutilization of Kai Asakura’s star power is still baffling. He’s legitimately one of the most popular combat sports athletes in Japan, yet fans unfamiliar with him pre-UFC would never know it.Sure, his Octagon run thus far hasn’t panned out, with two losses starting with a debut flyweight title shot against the then-champion Alexandre Pantoja. But Asakura is still as good as it gets among violent strikers south of 145 pounds. In this fight with Cameron Smotherman, he’ll return to the division he’s always been his best at: Bantamweight.Smotherman is still a solid prospect in his own right. After his first UFC loss to Serhiy Sidey, he was somewhat oddly matched with a more notable veteran in Ricky Simon, which did him no favors. The trend continues here in a fight he’ll really want to mix his game up for, as Asakura continues to try and tighten up his defensive grappling. On the feet, though, few have the devastating precision and speed of Asakura, as seen in his filthy back-to-back knee-strike finishes over Juan Archuleta and Yuki Motoya.Pick: Asakura170 pounds: Jake Matthews (-350) vs. Carlston Harris (+275)Jake Matthews has been 21 years old forever. (OK. He hasn’t, but it sure feels like it.)The Aussie welterweight has essentially become the ultimate perma-journeyman-gatekeeper of the welterweight division. His position is a weird one, as he’s still only 31.Despite a submission loss to Neil Magny his last time out, Matthews was looking as sharp as he had in his previous three-fight win streak. He’s a supremely well-rounded fighter, and his boxing is crisp and damaging, though not overly fearsome.Carlston Harris is longer in the tooth at 38 years old, and the Brazilian’s chin has started to fade a bit, suffering consecutive knockouts to Santiago Ponzinibbio and Khaos Williams in his last two appearances. I don’t necessarily see Matthews continuing that trend, but he’s simply the more well-rounded, youthful fighter at this stage, with more progression than decline ahead in his future.Pick: Matthews125 pounds: Alex Perez (-150) vs. Su Mudaerji (+125)Su Mudaerji has very quietly strung together three straight wins in the ever-exciting flyweight division. A home game against Alex Perez should provide plenty of action to kick off the UFC Macau main card. These two are allergic to bad fights, really. While most seem to have counted out Perez as a title contender at this stage, the dude still packs a wallop and is one of the better finishers at flyweight. Mudaerji always brings war to the Octagon, and with each man here generally aiming to entertain on the feet, we’re in for a banger.Ultimately, Mudaerji’s finishes often come more at the tail-end of wars, which add up for him too. Perez only needs one good shot, and his chances of cracking Mudaerji amid a fire-fight are much higher.Pick: PerezXiong JingNan is one of the biggest UFC signings of 2026.Jeff Bottari via Getty ImagesPreliminary NotesXiong JingNan could end up being just the injection of life the UFC strawweight division needs. The former ONE Championship 125-pound champion was undefeated in her reign, racking up seven title defenses and delivering all-time classics with fellow champion Angela Lee. Angela Hill makes for the perfect opponent for Xiong’s UFC debut, and is the ideal litmus test to tell us if the 38-year-old has one last run in her.I don’t know what it is with the UFC matchmakers, but for some reason they can’t help themselves when it comes to Loma Lookboonmee curtain-jerkers. The Thai strawweight has never been on a UFC main card in her 10-fight run, has been the third fight of the night three times, and will compete in back-to-back opener fights with UFC Macau. Lookboonmee is always a fun time, despite her atomweight size at 115 pounds, so catch that one out of the gate, as Jaqueline Amorim also looks to get back on track after a tough loss to Mizuki Inoue.Quick picks:Lee Yi-sak (+145) def. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCavaliers hesitant to sacrifice future for Giannis blockbuster moveCavaliers hesitant to sacrifice future for Giannis blockbuster move originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Cleveland Cavaliers are unlikely to sacrifice their future for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Cavaliers are not interested in trading for the two-time MVP if it involves Evan Mobley. “Another obstacle for the Bucks: Mobley, at 24, is regarded in Cleveland as the sort of player who could offer a legitimate bridge to a successful post-Mitchell future. The Cavaliers, remembering how hard life was after James walked away from the franchise — twice — are obviously reluctant to surrender Mobley and the staying power he is projected to represent unless it's a sure-thing trade.”Evan Mobley remains untouchable for ClevelandThe Cavaliers have reportedly contacted the Bucks in the past, but sources have indicated that Cleveland lacks the necessary pieces to offer a trade package Milwaukee would deem worthy. Other reports indicated that the Cavaliers are hesitant to move off Mobley, as they view him as an untouchable cornerstone of the franchise. Mobley is only 24 years old and was named Defensive Player of the Year in the 2024-25 season. The two sides are unlikely to get a deal done for a variety of reasons, one of which includes the Cavaliers not being on Antetokounmpo's list of preferred destinations. Cavaliers appears committed to current coreThe Cavaliers are coming off one of their best seasons since LeBron James was last with the team in 2018. They made the Eastern Conference Finals, but were swept by the New York Knicks. For some franchises, that would call for desperate changes like trading for a superstar. However, in the case of the Cavaliers this offseason, it appears their priority will be keeping their two best players together in Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. Mitchell is eligible for a massive contract extension, and Harden is set to be an unrestricted free agent after they traded for him before the deadline. This year, he had 46 goals and 44 assists in 65 games for a total of 90 points. The 20-year old right wing is 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds with a righty shot, and he's got serious potential. The Blackhawks seemed to get it right with their draft pick, but they might not end up with Pridham.MORE: Mitch Marner is making the Maple Leafs miserableWhy are the Blackhawks going to lose Jack Pridham?Pridham still hasn't signed an entry-level contract or committed to a college program. If he doesn't by Monday (June 1), the Blackhawks will lose their rights to Pridham, according to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times."Which, considering the mass of other forward prospects in the Hawks’ system, he’s probably unlikely to do," Pope writes.Pridham was previously committed to Boston University, but he decommitted last year and instead returned to the OHL to play for Kitchener again. The rules then dictate Pridham would no longer be a Blackhawks prospect and that he could be drafted again. APNEWS.COMLouisiana’s Legislature has passed a new congressional map to give the GOP another seatLouisiana Reps. Adrian Fisher, D-Dist 16, left, Chad Michael Boyer, R-Dist 46, and C. Travis Johnson, D-Dist 21, right, recite the pledge of allegiance prior to a house vote on a redistricting plan to eliminate a majority-Black congressional district in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, in Baton Rouge, La., Thursday, May 21, 2026. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)2026-05-29T15:38:59Z BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana lawmakers passed a new congressional map Friday designed to pick up a Republican seat while leaving the state with just one of its two majority-Black House districts represented by Democrats.Approval of the new House map came a month after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the state’s current map as an illegal racial gerrymander, weakening the landmark 1965 federal Voting Rights Act. That decision intensified a national redistricting battle fueled by President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect the Republicans’ slim House majority in the midterm elections.Louisiana Republicans had considered drawing a map giving the party a shot at winning all six of the state’s U.S. House seats. But that would have required adding more Black voters to Republican-held districts, potentially backfiring with losses. Some Republicans said a 5-1 map better protects U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson from facing a difficult reelection. Republican Gov. Jeff Landry is expected to sign the new map into law.In the weeks following the Supreme Court’s decision, several other Republican-controlled Southern states have seized upon a weakened federal Voting Rights Act to try to redraw their own congressional districts. It’s the latest flare-up in a heated national redistricting battle heading into the November elections, spurred along by President Donald Trump. So far, Republicans are winning the redistricting contest. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they will win a narrowly divided U.S. House in November. So far, Republicans think they could gain as many as 14 seats from their redistricting efforts, while Democrats think they could gain six seats from new districts in California and Utah. Read More In Louisiana, Republicans currently hold four of six congressional seats on a court-ordered map drawn in 2024 to comply with the Voting Rights Act by including a second district with a majority-Black population. That map, however, was challenged in court, and the Supreme Court responded on April 30 by striking it down as an illegal racial gerrymander.Landry postponed the state’s U.S. House primary, scheduled for May 16, until later this summer to allow time for Republican lawmakers to draw and pass a new map.The proposed map redraws Democratic U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields’ district, clustering it around predominantly white communities in the Baton Rouge area and southern Louisiana. It also adds part of Baton Rouge to a heavily Democratic, majority-Black district based in New Orleans currently represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Troy Carter.More lawsuits were expected over the new map. Democrats say the proposed map could still constitute a racial gerrymander because it packs Black voters into a single congressional district. Meanwhile, the plaintiffs in the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision criticized the Legislature’s map for leaving a majority-Black district in place.Several other Southern states also have acted on redistricting since the Supreme Court’s decision. Florida’s Legislature passed new congressional districts just hours after the ruling, completing a redrawing that was in the works in anticipation of the decision. It could yield Republicans as many as four additional seats in the midterm elections. Tennessee adopted new U.S. House districts a week after the ruling, carving up a majority-Black district based in Memphis in a Republican attempt to win an additional seat.In Alabama, Republicans are attempting to pick up another seat by redrawing two districts where Black residents compose a majority or close to it. Democrats hold both seats, and the proposal is mired in a court battle. South Carolina’s Senate, meanwhile, decided against redistricting, despite pressure from Trump. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCurtis Jones priority shared as Inter Milan reignite their interestCurtis Jones priority shared as Inter Milan reignite their interestCurtis Jones' Liverpool future has been on thin ice ever since Arne Slot became the man at the helm. The Dutchman has hardly played the Jurgen Klopp favourite and, when he has, he's often been used out of position at right-back.Despite this, whenever Jones has been used in his actual position, he's been one of the Reds' best players and has helped turn games around in an instant. But, since the 2026-27 season is the final year of his current contract, it's unclear whether he'll sign a new one if he's not guaranteed the playing time he deserves. This is why several clubs have shown an interested in signing him with Inter Milan now reigniting their interest.Rumours have been flying about ever since they made their initial offer in January and now, Jones' priority for the summer window has been revealed.Curtis Jones wants to join Inter Milan this summerEven though change is afoot at Liverpool, it seems like Jones still doesn't believe that he'll be played as much as he deserves to be next season.Throughout the 2025-26 campaign, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz have all been chosen over the Englishman. And now, Jones has clearly had enough with Fabrizio Romano [via Anfield Index] sharing that the Englishman's priority this summer is to exit L4 and join Inter."On the Anfield Index Pro Plus special, host Dave Davis placed Curtis Jones firmly inside Liverpool’s summer transfer conversation, with Inter Milan’s interest now part of the wider picture around squad change, midfield balance and contract risk," they wrote."The focus was clear, Jones has one year remaining on his Liverpool deal, Inter are keen, and the numbers being discussed have already provoked a strong reaction."Davis said the latest uncertainty came from 'everything that’s come up around Curtis Jones in what the last two days,' before referencing Fabrizio Romano’s report that 'Curtis Jones been prioritizing a move to Inter for months' and that there had been initial contact between the two clubs last night."Arne Slot cannot let Curtis Jones leave LiverpoolAlthough Slot may not rate Jones as highly as some of his peers, the fact that he's considering letting the Englishman leave is a joke.Jones brings a different level of energy to the Reds' team than anyone else with only Szoboszlai close to matching his work rate.Granted, the fact that he's been used as a right-back is probably one of the main reasons behind his desire to exit but, if Mac Allister or even Szoboszlai end up leaving this summer, there's going to be a fair few gaps for Richard Hughes and Slot to fill. And, since they're already letting three of their best players leave for nothing, it's unclear how much money the Anfield outfit will actually have to spend. As mentioned, Jones is in the final year of his contract which means that whichever club comes in for him knows that they'll be able to negotiate a small fee for his transfer. There already so many moving parts for the Reds to deal with this summer and, if Jones does leave, it'll just make their job even worse. Here's hoping that Slot comes to his senses and tries to figure out a way to get the Englishman into his starting XI on a more regular basis.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow the cheesehead hat became a cultural phenomenon embraced by US sports fansAmericans have long balanced their formidable global presence with a distinctive brand of goofiness, a cheerful self-assurance that can transform international bewilderment over certain cultural quirks into an endearing smile. A prime example of this phenomenon is the iconic cheesehead hat.Born in the late 1980s, this headwear, crafted from sofa foam and radiating a sunny yellow defiance, emerged as a retort to the taunts faced by sports enthusiasts in Wisconsin, a state proudly known as America’s dairyland. When residents of neighboring Illinois derisively called them "Cheeseheads!", the insult was not only embraced but literally turned on its head, particularly by fans of the Green Bay Packers football team. The cheesehead hat has been embraced by fans of various sports in the US (Getty)Soon, Wisconsin sports arenas were awash with supporters sporting these hats, shaped like large, dimpled wedges of cheddar. (Though the dimples might suggest Swiss, American perceptions of cheese, especially processed varieties, form another unique slice of Americana.)Yet, this quirky headgear isn't exclusive to one state, despite the "Wisconsin Cheesehead" now residing in the Smithsonian’s American History Museum. Across the US, particularly in college sports, fans routinely shed inhibition, donning horns or animal ears, or even stripping off shirts to paint their torsos in freezing temperatures. This seasonal display embodies perhaps the most vibrant, and harmless, manifestation of the "Hold my beer" exuberance that has characterized generations of Americans, both at home and abroad. We are often loud, prone to doing silly things, and tribal in ways that range from the superficial, like sports, to the significant, such as the current political landscape. We also possess a remarkable track record of stumbling into greatness. Ralph Bruno, the cheesehead hat's creator, once candidly told Milwaukee magazine about his inspiration: "I wasn’t thinking too deeply about it." Today, his creation is trademarked, owned by a professional football team, and sells for $28.99 apiece. Above all, this towering block of fake cheese, which might well be a metaphor for the nation itself, underscores Americans' enduring capacity for self-deprecating humor.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCori Close Reveals How NIL Has Changed UCLA WBB’s Recruiting ProcessThe rise of NIL has changed college sports in multiple ways. For UCLA women’s basketball, head coach Cori Close said NIL has forced the program to change their recruiting process. In a recent interview on the Women’s Sports Now show, Close explained how NIL has taken opportunities away from freshmen players. She said UCLA now recruits more transfers than incoming freshmen each year because signing a transfer costs less money and poses less risk.“I don’t like it. First of all, because it’s taking away freshman opportunities. But my job is to lead effectively into this new landscape. And, you know, I think if you’re not able to have a freshman that makes an immediate impact, you’re really paying them and training them to leave. And so, we’ve switched and played, I said we’re probably 60/40 transfers to freshmen in our recruiting now. And, you know, and it’s a long game when you’re recruiting freshmen,“You’re investing a ton of money, a ton of time, and have greater risk whereas, you know, I call, you know, the transfer portals like being on The Bachelorette, you know? You’re just trying to get a rose, and it’s like speed dating. And so, you know, it’s like a sprint. And so you don’t have to spend as much time and money, and you know what you’re getting,” Close said. View this post on InstagramA post shared by Women's Sports Now (@wsnonespn)UCLA Acquired Five Players From Transfer PortalAfter losing six players to the 2026 WNBA Draft, UCLA had to be extra active in the transfer portal this offseason. UCLA added five players from the transfer portal to next season’s squad. Those five players are Arkansas guard Bonnie Deas, TCU guard Donoyn Hunter, North Carolina guard Elina Aarnisalo, Notre Dame guard KK Bransford and Iowa State forward Addy Brown. Together, UCLA’s transfer portal classed earned a No. 5 national ranking by ESPN earlier this month.Meanwhile, UCLA’s only committed incoming freshman is 5-foot-9 guard Somto Okafor.Five Bruins from the national championship team will also be returning next season, including senior forward Timea Gardiner who transferred to UCLA from Oregon State ahead of the 2024-25 season. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Rishabh Pant’s Rs 27 crore LSG move turned into an IPL disaster in just two seasonsRishabh Pant’s two-year stint as Lucknow Super Giants captain has come under an abrupt cloud after the wicketkeeper-batter stepped down from the leadership role following another disastrous IPL season for the franchise. Bought for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore ahead of IPL 2025, Pant arrived in Lucknow as the face of a new era. However, the move has so far turned into one of the most underwhelming chapters in recent IPL history.LSG confirmed on Friday that Pant had requested to be relieved of captaincy duties, and the franchise accepted the decision with immediate effect. The announcement came after Lucknow finished at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, extending their playoff drought to two consecutive seasons under Pant’s leadership. When LSG broke the bank for Pant at the IPL mega auction, the expectations were enormous. The franchise made him the most expensive player in IPL auction history and immediately handed him the captaincy role, hoping he would lead the team into a new era. However, neither the results nor Pant’s own performances matched the hype surrounding the signing. In IPL 2025, LSG finished seventh on the points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Pant endured a poor season with the bat, scoring just 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.17. His unbeaten 118 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow’s final league game saved his numbers from looking even worse and remained the only standout moment in an otherwise forgettable campaign.Things did not improve much in IPL 2026 either. Lucknow managed to win only four matches all season and finished last in the standings. Pant’s struggles with form continued despite constant changes in his batting role. Over the course of the season, he batted as an opener, at No. 3 and even at No. 4, highlighting the uncertainty around both his position and confidence.Pant eventually finished IPL 2026 with 312 runs in 14 matches. While those numbers were slightly better than the previous season, they still fell far short of expectations for a player carrying a Rs 27 crore price tag. He averaged 33.61 with a strike rate of 146.79 and managed only one fifty-plus score throughout the campaign.Beyond the IPL, Pant’s position in India’s white-ball setup has also weakened significantly over the last year. KL Rahul has firmly cemented his spot in India’s ODI side, while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have surged ahead in the T20 pecking order. Samson, in particular, strengthened his claim after a sensational T20 World Cup campaign where he scored 321 runs and won the Player of the Tournament award. Kishan, meanwhile, has returned to India’s ODI squad, further pushing Pant down the queue. The selectors have also removed Pant from the role of India’s Test vice-captain, with KL Rahul now taking over the responsibility. The decision was widely seen as another indication that Pant’s standing within the national setup is no longer as secure as it once appeared. With Pant now stepping away from captaincy at LSG, the franchise is expected to begin a fresh rebuild. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh have emerged as the leading contenders to replace him as skipper heading into the next IPL season.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArena football player’s touchdown celebration landed fan in hospital, lawsuit saysAn arena football player’s touchdown celebration turned into a medical emergency for one Upstate New York fan, who was rushed to the hospital with a spinal fracture, among other serious injuries, according to court filings reviewed by The Independent. When the Albany Firebirds took on the Southwest Kansas Storm at MVP Arena on March 21, 2025 – opening day – an unnamed Firebird leapt into the stands after scoring, states a lawsuit filed April 13.Stephen Wieland Jr. was watching from the arena’s “Party Zone,” a “premium spectator area” behind the end zone, as the player “ran directly over the barrier” and barreled into the 49-year-old, “striking [him] with significant force and propelling him approximately five feet through the air,” his complaint says.Wieland landed on his back on the concrete floor, after which paramedics took him to the Albany Medical Center, where doctors diagnosed him with a T12 compression fracture, a traumatic rotator cuff injury to his left shoulder, and head trauma, the complaint goes on. “The incident was captured on video and witnessed by multiple spectators present in the impact zone,” according to the complaint, which was filed in Albany County Supreme Court. Wieland contends the Party Zone did not have barriers high enough to properly protect ticketholders, lacked adequate protective netting, and claims there was “insufficient setback distance between the spectators and the field.” The Albany Firebirds are at at the center of a lawsuit by a fan who claims he was badly injured by an ecstatic player (Getty Images)Further, the complaint continues, the area’s “unpadded concrete flooring” and “lack of warnings to patrons regarding the risk of player collisions” were obvious dangers that had gone unaddressed. The team and arena operators “should have known that players would inevitably go over the barrier during play,” and that this posed a “foreseeable risk” to spectators in the Party Zone, the complaint contends. It does not name the player who scored.Wieland, it says, continues to suffer from chronic pain and “sleep disruption.”Attorney Scott Peterson, who is representing Wieland, told The Independent that his client is on the mend but is “still dealing with the significant impact of this incident.”“Arena football provides an exciting, up-close experience, and that's exactly what makes venues like MVP Arena special,” Peterson said on Thursday. “But that proximity to the action comes with a responsibility, and… it’s critical that they account for the reality of the game and the safety of the spectators.”Arena football, unlike more traditional football, puts fans right next to the action with little distance between the sideline and the seating area. What happened to Wieland “was not a freak occurrence,” according to Peterson, but rather, “a foreseeable consequence of the sport and lack of safety measures by the arena.”“Mr. Wieland wasn't taking an unreasonable risk,” Peterson said. “He was standing exactly where he was told to stand.”Stephen Wieland was watching the Albany Firebirds play at the city's MVP Arena when he was allegedly injured by a player celebrating a touchdown (MVP Arena)Wieland’s case, Peterson argued, “is about making sure venues and organizations take their responsibility seriously, so that fans can enjoy the game safely.”Tickets in the Party Zone range from $45 to $62, and generally include all-you-can-eat food and soft drinks, along with access to a private bar and restrooms. The Firebirds scored 11 touchdowns that day to defeat the Storm in a 78-20 win. The team was undefeated in 2025, and defeated the Nashville Kats 60-57 that June to bring home the Arena Crown Championship.Fan injuries amid touchdown celebrations are rare, but do happen. Last year, University of Kentucky running back Seth McGowan threw a football into the stands after a touchdown, accidentally striking the opposing team’s quarterback’s grandfather in the head. Players have also hurt themselves while celebrating a touchdown, such as Washington Redskins quarterback Gus Frerotte, who in 1997 headbutted a padded wall after scoring on a one-yard run, spraining his neck and putting himself in the hospital. In 2001, following a successful 42-yard field goal, rookie Arizona Cardinals placekicker Bill Gramatica jumped in the air and tore his ACL upon landing.Firebirds officials did not respond to a request for comment.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Braves have designated a veteran starting pitcher for assignment for the fourth time since last August. On Friday, the NL East club announced that right-hander Carlos Carrasco was DFA'd. Right-hander Anthony Molina was recalled from Triple-A as the corresponding move. Carrasco, 39, went unclaimed on waivers the last three times the Braves cut him loose, and he wound up signing minor league contracts with Atlanta in each of those instances. "Atlanta will have five days to trade Carrasco, place him on waivers, or release him. The former doesn’t seem likely, based on how they’ve handled him to this point," wrote Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors. "It’s quite probable that Carrasco will hit waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he’ll briefly become a free agent and re-sign with the Braves." Carrasco has made four appearances out of the bullpen for the Braves in 2026, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks in 7.1 innings. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.If the Boston Celtics are looking to improve their center position this offseason, they might have a better chance of doing so with the 27th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft rather than overpaying for a free agent. There are likely a handful of centers still available when pick No. 27 rolls around, and according to MassLive's Souichi Terada, St. John's center Zuby Ejiofor could be a solid choice for the Celtics."The Celtics hosted Ejiofor for a predraft workout, so there’s some interest already," Terada wrote on Friday. "Ejiofor is also projected to be available late in the first round. Ejiofor was a productive big for St. John’s, named Big East Player of the Year and Big East Defensive Player of the Year. If he could develop a jumper, he could have a lengthy career in the NBA. Ejiofor is undersized as a center is one of the question marks here."Ejiofor played four seasons of college basketball, one at Kansas before heading to play at St. John's for three. The 6-foot-9 center took off this season, recording 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 37 games. One notable aspect of Ejiofor's tenure is his ability to turn around St. John's basketball program over his three seasons there. He helped transform them from one of the worst teams in college basketball into champions, winning two Big East titles in back-to-back seasons. This impressive track record suggests that Ejiofor could be a valuable asset for any team.More NBA: Insider Names One Former Celtic Boston Should Reunite With This Offseason0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

Ashcraft, a converted starting pitcher now in his second year as a reliever, was 1-1 in 2026 with a 3.33 ERA over 27 innings across 26 games. Reds manager Terry Francona will likely address Ashcraft's injury during his scheduled pre-game meeting with reporters on Friday, May 29. The Enquirer will update this report. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: The Reds are losing Graham Ashcraft to the 60-day IL. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMHere’s how we can break free from patriarchal Christian NationalismThousands of people flocked onto the National Mall in Washington, DC for an all-day prayer rally on Sunday, May 17. The event was promoted as a “re-dedication of our country as One Nation under God.” The rally’s official title was “Rededicate 250: National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving.” With the Washington Monument as a focal point, worship music played loudly from the main stage throughout the day, making it clear that the phrase “One Nation under God” was being framed specifically in Christian terms. The program and messaging centered on the Christian faith, rather than a broader, interfaith understanding of religion in public life. Related Here’s what the United States might have become if Kamala Harris had won the presidency… The stage design reinforced this point. Large columns echoing federal architecture were flanked by arched, stained-glass-style windows depicting the nation’s founders alongside a white cross. This visual combination of governmental imagery and explicitly Christian symbols highlighted a strong connection between national identity and Christian faith. Most speakers emphasized and celebrated Christianity’s historical ties to the United States. This fusion of religious and national themes has drawn criticism from various commentators and organizations, who argue that it reflects or promotes Christian nationalism rather than a pluralistic or religiously neutral vision of the country. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today In a pre-recorded video screened at the rally, President Donald Trump read a passage of scripture from the Oval Office. This same video was shown the month earlier at a marathon Bible-reading event. The verses from 2 Chronicles are often cited by those who believe America was founded as a Christian nation. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways,” Trump read, “then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Two women, one with an arm held upward toward the heavens, held a cloth flag in red, white, and blue announcing: “JESUS, MAKE AMERICA GODLY AGAIN.” Other top Republicans were also on the schedule of speakers including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and House Speaker Mike Johnson, as well as longtime Trump friend Paula White-Cain, who heads the White House’s so-called “Faith Office,” and conservative evangelist Franklin Graham. Secretary Hegseth seemed to have led a religious service in his video sermon by asking participants at the gathering to pray to “our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” He then referred to George Washington’s faith by saying, “Let us pray without ceasing. Let us pray for our nation on bended knee.” The wall of separation between church and state Following the Revolutionary War with Britain, Virginia adopted Thomas Jefferson’s “Act for Establishing Religious Freedom” (1786), which strongly influenced the First Amendment’s religion clause: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof….” Several participants at the rally, when questioned by reporters, argued that the First Amendment’s “free expression” clause was mean to keep the government out of people’s religious practices, but not to keep the people from influencing the government on religious matters. The phrase “separation of church and state” does not appear in the Constitution; it comes from Jefferson’s 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptist Association, where he spoke of a “wall of separation” intended to protect religious liberty. Later, Alexis de Tocqueville, in Democracy in America (1840), noted a paradox: The U.S. claimed church–state separation, yet Christianity — especially Protestantism — exerted powerful influence over public life. He concluded that denominational competition, absent from an official state church (religion), actually strengthened Christianity’s cultural and political influence, contributing to what he called the “tyranny of the majority.” Founding-era evidence, though, complicates claims that the U.S. is a Christian nation. For example, the Treaty of Tripoli (1797), ratified unanimously by the U.S. Senate and signed by President John Adams, states that “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” This was partly intended to reassure Muslim-majority countries that the U.S. bore no religious animus. At the same time, the historical record demonstrates that church–state separation has often been more aspirational than real. From the arrival of Europeans on this continent onward, Christian norms —particularly those of white European Christianity — have shaped law, land ownership, citizenship, and civil status. Examples include: The Catholic Church’s “Doctrine of Discovery” used to justify colonization and dispossession of Indigenous peoples. Puritan religious establishments and the Salem witch trials. Sunday “blue laws” restricting commerce. Forced Christianization of enslaved Africans. The Civilization Act of 1819, funding Protestant missions to Indigenous communities. General Grant’s order expelling “Jews as a class” from parts of his military command. The ideology of Manifest Destiny and “Providence” in U.S. expansion. Federal acts and policies steeped in Christian or implicitly Christian framing: The establishment of Christmas as a national holiday in 1870 “In God We Trust” on currency (Civil War era, expanded in the 1950s), “under God” added to the Pledge of Allegiance during the Cold War, religious mottos and symbols on national seals and currency, and government-funded Christian chaplaincies. Primarily Christian invocations at congressional, presidential, and other elected official inaugurationsExclusionary and racially targeted immigration and citizenship laws, including the Chinese Exclusion Act, racialized naturalization rules, and the internment of Japanese Americans (many of whom were Buddhist) during World War II. More recent policies and rulings are often grounded in specifically Christian conservative frameworks, such as attempts to ban Muslim immigration and the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. These examples suggest that the “wall of separation” has been porous in practice, with Christian norms — often white, Protestant, and patriarchal — deeply embedded in law and policy. Christian Nationalism and White Christian Nationalism | Shutterstock Historian Amanda Tyler (Center for American Progress) defines Christian nationalism as: “a political ideology and cultural framework that seeks to merge American and Christian identities, distorting both the Christian faith and America’s constitutional democracy. Christian nationalism relies on the mythological founding of the United States as a ‘Christian nation,’ singled out for God’s providence in order to fulfill God’s purposes on Earth. Christian nationalism demands a privileged place for Christianity in public life, buttressed by the active support of government at all levels.” Anthea Butler (Yale University) distinguishes, more specifically, what is white Christian nationalism: “Simply put, it is the belief that America’s founding is based on Christian principles, white Protestant Christianity is the operational religion of the land, and that Christianity should be the foundation of how the nation develops its laws, principles and policies…” Christian nationalism has taken different forms across U.S. history. William Wilsey, in his 2022 article, “The Many Faces of Christian Nationalism” in Peace and Freedom Magazine, lists several eras and forms: Puritan Millennialism in early New England colonies, Christian Republicanism during and after the American Revolution, Manifest Destiny and territorial expansion, Lincolnian Unionism grounding the preservation of the Union in divine providence, Wilsonian Idealism linking U.S. leadership in World War I to advancing “Christian civilization,” and The Christian America Movement (sparked by the book, The Light and the Glory, 1977 by Peter Marshall and David Manuel), which slants U.S. history from a religious perspective, arguing that God had a specific plan for the founding of the United States, from Columbus to the early republic, and that the U.S. is a new “chosen” nation. The Christian Right (more appropriately called “The Christian Theocratic Right”) Helena, Montana – Nov 7, 2020: Woman wearing red Make America Great Again hat praying at Stop the Steal rally in support of Donald Trump, perceives that the election was stolen by Joe Biden. | Shutterstock The modern Christian Right is a politically organized movement of mostly white evangelical Protestants, conservative Catholics, and allied groups seeking to shape policy and law according to their interpretation of Christian teaching. Though its roots go back at least to the National Reform Association (founded 1863, seeking a formal Christian amendment to the Constitution), it became especially prominent from the 1970s onward. Prominent initial leaders and organizations within the Christian right include Focus on the Family, founded by James Dobson in 1977; The Moral Majority, founded by Jerry Falwell Sr. in 1979; the Family Research Council, founded also by James Dobson in 1983 but later led as an independent organization by Tony Perkins; and The Christian Coalition, founded by Pat Robertson in 1987. Since its inception, a newer generation of organizational leaders have taken over. Politically conservative Christianity has achieved some of its goals, for example, reducing reproductive freedoms including abortion. The movement gained momentum in passing state laws outlawing marriage for same-sex couples until the Supreme Court’s 2015 decision Obergefell v. Hodges granted marriage equality nationwide. The Christian right movement and the politicians who support its goals continue to work to outlaw marriage for same-sex couples, prevent transgender people from using public facilities and compete on sports teams, ban gender affirming healthcare, impose a national ban on abortion services in states that continue to provide reproductive healthcare. It also works to restrict the right to vote from primarily people of color; censor and ban books and other curricular materials it deems inappropriate for youth (including materials and discussions on race, sexuality, and gender in public school classrooms); tighten even further immigration from the U.S. southern border; attack worker’s rights; protect corporate exploitation, fossil fuel production, and militarism; and ensure unrestricted and unregulated purchase and ownership of firearms, among other agenda items. Taking a liberatory social justice approach to religious oppression | Shutterstock It is no mere coincidence that heightened governmental imposition of a white Christian nationalist agency comes simultaneously with governmental restrictions and outright bans on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives against social institutions, such as educational and business. To reverse this devolutionary tide, we can employ social justice perspectives as lenses of perception through which we can view several forms of oppression, including religious oppression. Understanding how social group identity and issues of dominance and subordination are socialized, internalized, enacted, and reproduced from one generation to the next leads us to better conceptualize the route forward. Using social justice as a lens of perception also allows us to envision a socially just and liberatory future on multiple levels: the personal, interpersonal, institutional, and larger cultural and societal. Lee Anne Bell of Columbia University defines social justice as: “…both a goal and a process. The goal of social justice is full and equitable participation of people from all social identity groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs. The process for attaining the goal of social justice should also be democratic and participatory, respectful of human diversity and group differences, and inclusive and affirming of human agency and capacity for working collaboratively with others to create change for our collective wellbeing….” An inclusive model, one that ensures individuals’ and groups’ freedom of as well as freedom from religion, is the concept as well as a national goal of “cultural and religious pluralism.” The Jewish immigrant and sociologist of Polish and Latvian heritage, Horace Kallen (1915), coined the term “cultural pluralism” to challenge the image of the so-called “melting pot,” which he considered to be inherently undemocratic. Kallen envisioned a United States in the image of a great symphony orchestra, not sounding in unison (the “melting pot”), but rather, one in which all the disparate cultures play in harmony and retain their unique and distinctive tones and timbres. Young people have been and continue to be at the heart of progressive social change movements. Researcher Catherine Corrigall-Brown (2011), in her study of participation in social movements, found that activism is directly related with higher levels of self-esteem and self-efficacy, and also associated with verification and crystallization of identity development, especially in young people. Progressive social movements are transforming and revolutionizing the society and its institutions, and young people often are leading the way by challenging overall power inequities related not only to religious oppression and privilege, but also to other critical issues, such as the environmental crisis, gun violence, racial justice, reproductive freedoms, sexuality and gender identity categorizations and hierarchies, and other essential issues. They are also making links in the various types of oppression and are forming coalitions with other marginalized groups. They are dreaming their dreams, sharing their ideas and visions, and organizing to ensure a world free from all the deadly forms of oppression. Along their journey, they are inventing new ways of relating and being in the world. Their stories, experiences, and activism have great potential to bring us to a future where people across diverse backgrounds will live freely, unencumbered by social taboos and cultural norms related to dominance and subordination. Today, although power and wealth remain concentrated in the hands of a primarily Christian ruling class, the United States stands as one of the most religiously diverse countries in the world. This diversity poses great challenges to Christian dominance as well as opportunities to build a truly democratic, religiously pluralist, and inclusive society. To quote religious historian Diana Eck: “The presumption that America is foundationally Christian is being challenged, really for the first time. There is no going back. As we say in Montana, the horses are already out of the barn.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Dusty May Put Michigan Back in Draft SpotlightMichigan basketball has three frontcourt players in the 2026 NBA draft conversation, and that is the clearest sign yet of how Dusty May has built this roster. Yaxel Lendeborg, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson Jr. were projected as first-round picks in April, and combine coverage later said Michigan had a legitimate chance to produce three lottery picks in June. That remains projection, but it puts Michigan basketball and its transfer-built frontcourt at the center of the draft board. The roster angle matters as much as the draft buzz. Michigan won the 2026 national championship with an upperclassmen- and transfer-driven group under May’s portal-heavy roster model, and the three biggest draft names all came from the frontcourt. Why these three are driving Michigan basketball’s draft caseLendeborg has the strongest résumé of the group entering draft season. He was named Big Ten Player of the Year, and his transfer path fits the Michigan basketball pitch after he arrived with a documented NBA-development goal in mind.Mara brings a different profile. The Michigan center earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, then drew added draft attention after his measurements at the combine were highlighted in lottery-range discussion.Johnson rounds out the trio as another frontcourt piece squarely in the first-round conversation. He landed second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media, and combine reporting grouped him with Mara and Lendeborg as part of Michigan’s potential draft haul. The honors show this was more than draft chatterMichigan basketball’s awards board gives the draft talk real weight. Lendeborg, Mara and Johnson were not being discussed on traits alone. They were central pieces on a title team and collected major conference recognition along the way.May’s own postseason recognition adds to that picture. He earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors from the media, while Michigan’s championship season was built around experienced additions and transfer talent rather than a slow, multi-year homegrown climb. What it says about May’s roster-building modelMichigan basketball’s draft profile now looks like a direct extension of May’s roster strategy. The championship run came from a group built to win immediately, and the frontcourt became the best proof that veteran and transfer additions can raise both team results and NBA visibility at the same time. The draft conversation also narrowed into a cleaner three-man case once Elliot Cadeau withdrew and returned for his senior season. If Lendeborg, Mara and Johnson hear their names called where current projections suggest they could, June becomes another selling point for Michigan basketball in both high school recruiting and the portal.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMeet Michael Eifert, the latest in a long line of unpopular IBF mandatoriesMichael Eifert has spent more than three years waiting for a phone call that many believed would never come. The little-known German upset the odds when he outpointed former world champion Jean Pascal in their March 2023 IBF final eliminator. The win was supposed to earn Eifert a shot at a world title, but instead it has led to three years of inactivity, frustration and boxing’s dreaded waiting game.Eifert, 28, has fought just once since beating Pascal, a six-round warm-up bout in August 2024. He’s been sidelined for 21 straight months since. Now, Eifert is not completely innocent in his struggles. He did accept a pair of step-aside packages to allow both fights between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev to proceed in late 2024 and early 2025. But the real question is: How much of a choice did he really have?If Eifert at any point had decided to say no to stepping aside in 2024, Beterbiev would’ve likely just vacated the belt and allowed Eifert to face Conor Wallace in one of the smallest-scale world title fights in boxing to establish a beltholder who would not be considered by anybody to be a top light heavyweight. There was no value to doing that.So Eifert decided to sit on the sidelines collecting step-aside checks while Beterbiev and Bivol battled it out for the undisputed crown in back-to-back fights over four months. What the German contender couldn’t have predicted, though, is that his wait would then be extended a further 12 months because of Bivol’s injury, and that an ordered interim title bout with Wallace would not come to fruition.Michael Eifert (right) has been waiting for Saturday's opportunity for a long time.Martin Rose via Getty ImagesSimply put, Eifert is a product — and victim — of the IBF’s unpopular mandatory system. It’s a similar story to Bakhram Murtazaliev, who was IBF mandatory for Jermell Charlo for more than four years, and stepped aside on multiple occasions to allow Charlo to take part in three back-to-back unifications. After years of waiting, Murtazaliev eventually got — and won — his world title fight, and also had millions in his bank account for agreeing to postpone the opportunity time and again. The Murtazaliev blueprint is one that future unheralded mandatories may be forced to follow in divisions dominated by big-money fighters, as it is unlikely that champions will share the ring with them if bigger fights are available elsewhere. It perhaps comes as a surprise to Eifert as much as anybody that he is finally getting the chance to perform on the big stage against a truly elite fighter. Many in boxing expected Bivol to vacate his IBF belt and fight either Beterbiev again or take on David Benavidez, but fresh off injury, Eifert suddenly represents the perfect warm-up opponent. If the the unheralded challenger were to win on Saturday, it would be one of the biggest shocks in a boxing ring in recent years. Some bookmakers have Eifert as much as a 10-to-1 underdog.Outside of his victory over then-top 10 light heavyweight Pascal, who was stopped in four rounds by Michael Cieslak this past June, Eifert doesn’t have another name of note on his record. So, how did Eifert become IBF mandatory? In 2022, the IBF went through the rankings in search of its next No. 1 contender. The sanctioning body asked Joshua Buatsi, Anthony Yarde and Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez whether they were interested in the final eliminator, with all three eventually turning down the opportunity. Pascal, however, accepted the chance, as did Eifert, who was next in line because he held one of the IBF’s trinket titles at this time.Eifert’s story began in Bautzen, Germany, in 1997. He moved to the Kaufbeuren region, where he first took up boxing at the age of 10. Eifert had more than 100 amateur bouts, which included winning the German U21 championships. In 2018, at age 20, he called time on his decade-long stint in the unpaid ranks and switched over to the pro game.Eifert managed to amass a 6-0 record against journeyman opposition before losing in his first step-up fight against Tom Dzemski in August 2020. That loss was avenged the following year. In the rematch, Eifert claimed two youth titles, which paved the way for him to face more of Germany’s top 175-pounders. Wins over Nils Schmidt and Adriano Sperandio swiftly lead to his questionable IBF ranking. There is nothing overly impressive about what Eifert does inside the ring. He is a basic European-style boxer with a high guard who stands upright, has a little bounce, and throws mostly straight punches. Eifert’s best asset is his engine. He will be throwing punches consistently for 12 rounds. There is little risk of him slowing down and tiring out.The German shouldn’t represent much of a threat for Bivol and is the ideal opponent for the champ to ease back into things after recovering from injury.Eifert has, however, worked hard and waited long for his shot at a title, which finally arrives on Saturday. The problem for him is that it comes against one of the sport’s most formidable talents.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOusmane Dembélé confirms he is fit to face Arsenal: “I wasn’t scared about missing this final”Ousmane Dembélé confirms he is fit to face Arsenal: “I wasn’t scared about missing this final”With just over twenty-four hours to go until the Champions League final kicked off, Ousmane Dembélé was first up from the Paris Saint-Germain delegation to face the press in the build-up to the match.Having struggled with injury at various stages of the campaign, most recently with a calf issue, the French international insisted that he would be fully fit for tomorrow night’s clash.“I was never scared about missing the final. I had ten, fifteen days to prepare for it. We haven’t had much time off this season, so the coaching staff has done very well to manage it. I’m feeling 100% fit, and the rest of the squad is ready as well.” The forward would go on to join his teammates during the open training session held at the Puskás Aréna on Friday evening.Just as his manager did later on, Dembélé made it a point to praise the Premier League champions: “Arsenal are a very good team, as we saw with their Premier League title win as well as in the league stage of this competition. They deserve it, they’re a very good team that plays well and is good in attack and defence. They’re also impressive when it comes to set pieces, everyone knows that.”The Frenchman also brushed aside any suggestion that he might be resting on his laurels after winning the Ballon d’Or last year. “It hasn’t really changed the way I am or my style of play. I know that I have a lot more responsibilities since I’ve been at PSG, and I try to play well in both the big games and the smaller ones.”“It hasn’t changed my desire and my hunger to win trophies with this club. That’s all I’m thinking about, I know that people talk a lot individual trophies but that comes later.”GFFN | Raphaël Jucobin – reporting from the Puskás Aréna, Budapest0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

In February, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit agreed with the Department of Defense (DOD) that it could bar HIV-positive troops from military service. Three Republican-appointed judges deferred to DOD in its argument that those members would be a logistical and financial burden on the military. Related Pete Hegseth & Trump beg court to let them keep kicking HIV+ soldiers out of the military The panel reversed a lower court ruling overturning the ban and allowed it to go ahead. But in an order issued on May 18, the court reversed itself, saying it would rehear the case before the full panel of judges at the Richmond-based court. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “On a poll of the court requested by a judge, the majority of judges in active service and not disqualified voted to grant the petition for rehearing en banc,” the order reads. It vacated the February decision. Oral arguments are scheduled for September. Three plaintiffs are represented by Lambda Legal in the case, including Isaiah Wilkins, a former Army reservist accepted into the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School and then removed after he tested positive for HIV. “The decision came in February, and it felt like the end of the line,” Wilkins shared in a statement. “But Peter and Scott saw one last chance, however remote, to turn things around — and we did. I couldn’t be more thrilled to still have a chance at serving my country.” Attorney Scott Schoettes said in a statement that the rehearing “wipes the slate clean.” “Every other legal ruling across seven plus years of litigation has acknowledged that the evidentiary record demonstrates that people living with well-managed HIV can perform in any capacity as capably and safely as anyone else,” attorney Peter Perkowski added. “The now-vacated panel opinion was an aberration.” In December, the military argued that the medical needs of individuals with HIV limit their “deployability” and the tasks they can perform. “They impose additional costs on the military above those incurred by healthy individuals,” the DoD said. At a minimum, “there is a rational basis for the military to treat such individuals differently.” The government said that hundreds of different medical conditions disqualify people from joining the military, including high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, impaired vision, and food allergies. The risks of possible HIV transmission in battlefield blood transfusions were cited as well. “Modern science has transformed the treatment of HIV,” Judge Leonie Brinkema wrote in her 2024 ruling overturning the ban. “Asymptomatic HIV-positive service members with undetectable viral loads who maintain treatment are capable of performing all of their military duties, including worldwide deployment.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Liverpool could replace Ibrahima Konate with €50m defenderReport: Liverpool could replace Ibrahima Konate with €50m defenderLiverpool Transfer News: Nico Schlotterbeck Emerges as Serious Defensive OptionLiverpool’s defensive planning has taken on fresh urgency after DaveOCKOP reported that Nico Schlotterbeck could become an option for the Reds this summer.According to DaveOCKOP, “Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck could be an option for Liverpool this summer,” with the Germany international viewed as a possible response to Ibrahima Konate’s impending exit. That development matters. Konate’s expected departure on June 30th removes a senior, athletic, high ceiling centre back from Arne Slot’s squad. Even with Jeremy Jacquet arriving from Rennes in a £60 million deal, Liverpool’s defensive structure still looks short of proven, elite level balance.Konate Exit Changes Liverpool’s Transfer PictureDaveOCKOP report that “the disappointing news came through that Ibrahima Konate would be leaving Anfield upon the expiration of his contract on June 30th.”That is a significant blow. Konate had appeared to calm concerns earlier this year by suggesting a renewal was close, yet interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea has altered the landscape.Liverpool cannot afford uncertainty in such a crucial area. Slot’s team need centre backs who can defend large spaces, progress the ball and cope with the physical stress of competing across four competitions.Schlotterbeck Interest Has SubstanceThis is not a name arriving from nowhere. DaveOCKOP state: “We reported towards the end of 2025 that the Reds had serious interest in Nico Schlotterbeck. The club were in dialogue with his representatives and that dialogue had been positive.”That line is important. Liverpool’s recruitment department rarely move without groundwork. The report also adds that “his representatives have previously visited the AXA Training Centre during this past season,” which suggests this is a situation monitored with genuine intent.Photo: IMAGOSchlotterbeck, 26, offers several qualities Liverpool tend to value. He is left footed, experienced at Champions League level, comfortable stepping into midfield zones and aggressive in duels. His return of five goals and two assists from 37 appearances last season also underlines his threat from set pieces.Release Clause Could Define Summer MoveThe key detail is contractual. Schlotterbeck signed a new Borussia Dortmund deal in April, extending his stay until 2031, yet DaveOCKOP cite reports in Germany suggesting “that new deal is believed to hold a release clause valued between 50 and 60million euros.”More intriguingly, Liverpool are said to be among a small number of clubs with access to that clause, alongside Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. If accurate, that changes the dynamic completely.Dortmund may have secured the player’s future on paper, yet the clause potentially gives selected suitors a clear route into negotiations.World Cup Timing May Delay DecisionOne complicating factor is timing. Schlotterbeck is heading to the World Cup with Germany this summer, and DaveOCKOP note that “no decision is likely to be made until after then.”That could test Liverpool’s patience. Defensive reinforcements are required, yet elite centre backs rarely move quickly when international tournaments, release clauses and heavyweight rivals are involved. For Liverpool, this feels like one to watch closely. Schlotterbeck would not be a cheap solution, but he could be a strategic one. If Konate leaves, Liverpool need more than cover. They need authority, durability and quality. Our View – Anfield Index AnalysisFrom a Liverpool point of view, this report creates as much anxiety as excitement. Losing Konate on a free would feel like another avoidable contract failure, especially when he looked close to staying only weeks ago.Schlotterbeck is an impressive name, and the profile makes sense. A left footed centre back with Bundesliga experience, international pedigree and goal threat would immediately strengthen Slot’s options. Yet Liverpool supporters have heard plenty of “could move” and “interest remains” stories before. The fear is that the club admire the player, monitor the clause, then hesitate while Bayern Munich or Real Madrid act decisively. There is also concern around timing. Waiting until after the World Cup may be logical for the player, but Liverpool need clarity early. Pre season matters, especially for defenders learning Slot’s system, pressing triggers and build up patterns.Jacquet’s arrival is welcome, but asking a new signing from Rennes to immediately compensate for Konate’s exit feels risky. Schlotterbeck would calm nerves, particularly if Virgil van Dijk needs support and rotation across a demanding campaign.Supporters will want ambition here. If the clause is real and Liverpool have access to it, this should not drift. Konate leaving hurts. Schlotterbeck arriving would at least show the club are responding with proper intent.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2027 NFL Draft Summer scouting reports and safety rankingsWe have reached another week into the Summer Scouting process, and that means we have wrapped up watching the top linebackers in the class heading into the Fall.In total, I watched 11 safeties and will be sharing some notes on the top 10. I will share all the names at the end, but when we discuss the top options of this linebacker class, there are some top-end pieces for teams to target. The Summer is all about being positive with players, with some notes to keep in mind when we watch them in the Fall.We have beaten around the bush enough, though, let's show our rankings.1) KJ Bolden, GeorgiaScouting Report"KJ Bolden is far and away the best safety in this class, and it was evident after one game. He consistently provides run support, impresses with his processing speed, and his eagerness to make a play for Georgia does not go unnoticed."2) Koi Perich, OregonScouting Report"Koi Perich is a blast to watch and is going to be very fun with Oregon in 2026. He will step into the role that Dillon Thieneman gave up when he declared for the NFL Draft and was drafted in the first round."3) Ty Benefield, LSUScouting Report"Ty Benefield is a fun safety prospect who will be tested, moving from the Mountain West to the SEC. He very much fits the mold of what an SEC defender looks like, and he plays like one too."4) Bray Hubbard, AlabamaScouting Report"Bray Hubbard reminded me of why he was one of my favorite players last Summer. His film is riddled with him making plays he has no business pulling off, changing the dynamic of the game, and setting a tone for the defense."5) Tao Johnson, UCLAScouting Report"Tao Johnson is a super versatile defender who is moving from Utah to UCLA in 2026. He could be the premier defender for UCLA as they look to build on a promising 2025 campaign with a defense to help their offense out a bit more."6)Earl Little Jr., Ohio StateScouting Report"Earl Little Jr. is a fun safety prospect who deserves more attention heading into the 2026 season. At Ohio State, he has a chance to thrive in that high-profile defense and become one of its leaders."7) Jordan Castell, KentuckyScouting Report"Castell is a rangy safety for the Gators in 2025, and now he heads to Kentucky to help give that defense a facelift. He doesn’t make you go wow in most areas, but his willingness to meet runners in their lane or to work the middle of the field is impressive."8) Dashawn Spears, LSUScouting Report"Dashawn Spears is a fun safety prospect, but he is someone who needs to work on a lot in 2026. The base is there for him to be an impactful safety wth his size and technique, but the coverage ability and instincts need to be fulfilled."9) Keon Sabb, AlabamaScouting Report"Keon Sabb is one half of the dynamic duo at safety for the Alabama defense. Sabb provides the more physical half of the duo, while Bray Hubbard is the athletic playmaker. Sabb has those traits as well, but he strikes me as more of the thumper and leader between the two."10) Khalil Barnes, GeorgiaScouting Report"Khalil Barnes is a super athletic safety type and is fluid in his movement skills. He shows off great footwork and lower body mechanics that allow him to be able to get in position to make a play on the ball in the air or on the ground."Best of the RestMarcus Neal Jr., Penn State (Scouting Report)This article originally appeared on Bucs Wire: KJ Bolden headlines our 2027 NFL Draft summer safety rankings0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 39 Views 0 önizleme
