Wright.Moments after clinching the series at Paycom Center, Wembanyama covered his face with his jersey and hands, and got emotional about the win.“Winning the Larry O’Brien, it’s a childhood dream,” Wembanyama, 22, said afterwards, referring to the name of the trophy given to the NBA champions. “And having a real shot at it, having a chance, a tangible chance at winning it and realizing a dream … it’s a lifetime chance. You never know when it’s going to happen again.”Victor WembanyamaCredit: Joshua Gateley/GettyHe added, “It’s hard to put into words. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Browns conditional third-round pick becomes first-round pick if Rams trade Garrett to AFC NorthThe Browns added a little extra protection for themselves to complete the Myles Garrett trade to the Rams this week. While Cleveland received edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick from Los Angeles in exchange for Garrett, the league’s daily transaction wire noted that the final pick was conditional.According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the condition on that 2029 third-round pick is that it will become a first-round pick in the event that the Rams trade Garrett to a team in the AFC North. It doesn’t seem likely that the Rams would even want to trade Garrett at any point in the future. But just in case they do, the Browns have at least made it unlikely that they’ll ever see Garrett twice a year on the opposing sideline.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe ‘biggest mistake’ behind Aryna Sabalenka’s extraordinary quarter-final collapseWhat the blistering heat and sun did for Jannik Sinner, so the wind and her own mind did for Aryna Sabalenka. The only remaining grand slam champion left in either the men’s or women’s draw, the top seed and world No 1 did not drop a set in her first four matches at Roland-Garros and only once spent more than an hour and a half on court. But then came a meeting with 25th seed and first-time grand slam quarter-finalist Diana Shnaider, and a match amid the swirling, lively winds under the open roof of Court Philippe-Chatrier. And by the end of it came a familiar sight as Sabalenka, already a four-time major champion but who has held herself back from winning more, waved sadly to the crowd and made a premature exit, 6-3 5-7 0-6. A subdued and demoralised Sabalenka was emphatic in her press conference. “No thoughts, no emotions. I just want to quit tennis right now, but we’ll see in a few days. “Hopefully I’ll get back on track. Mentally I couldn’t really recover after the second set. I think that was the biggest mistake from me. “I actually have to step back and try to find a solution, because I just am so tired of me losing some matches not in the best way just because I was overemotional.”Both players struggled from the start as the wind kicked up the red dust. It was Sabalenka who settled quickest, racing to a 5-1 lead and utilising every facet of her increasingly complete game, from her vicious groundstrokes to drop shots and volleys. But the warning signs were there as an increasingly tenacious Shnaider dug in, fighting back to 5-3, and Sabalenka’s frustration was apparent as she shouted at herself for errors. Having been on shaky foundations mentally earlier in her career, notably as she struggled with double faults, the Belarusian has made strides in rounding out her game and eradicating those psychological dramas. But she has been by no means immune to them in recent seasons, and last year’s meltdown during and after her final defeat to Coco Gauff was the precursor of things to come on Chatrier a year later. In her press conference she smiled wryly as a comparison was made to last year’s final. “Oh yeah,” she said. “I have been through so many things, and I overcome so many things. I just have to figure that little thing that is not working for me sometimes, and hopefully I can overcome it.”Asked how she will bounce back, she merely said: “I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know.” Later she returned to the question: “You know those rooms where you go in and smash everything? Probably I will spend a whole day tomorrow over there destroying stuff.”Sabalenka suggested she felt like quitting tennis in an emotionally drained press conference after the difficult defeat (Reuters)All seemed relatively serene as sealed the first set and broke Shnaider in the first game of the second. The 22-year-old began to leak errors and Sabalenka’s power, despite her own errors in the wind, kept her one step ahead. But from 4-1 up in the second set Sabalenka lost 12 of the final 13 games and 18 of the last 23 points; at 5-3 in the second she was two points from victory and a seventh consecutive major semi-final. It was a collapse of epic proportions – the biggest since Sinner’s meltdown in the heat last week in his second-round wipeout by Juan Manuel Cerundolo. The rot set in with a sloppy drop shot followed by a double fault as Shnaider broke back for 4-2. The Russian said afterwards: “Tough conditions with the wind, first time playing Aryna, super nervous. Quarterfinals for the first time, definitely a lot of nerves. I feel like first there was trying to adjust to her game and then to the conditions, to the wind. I was like, it's okay. It’s tough conditions, she's the World No. 1. I will just try to do my best to the end and we'll see how it goes.”And it was clear that having settled, having got Sabalenka on edge, Shnaider had the upper hand. All but six of her 24 winners came from her superb forehand down the line, her lefty power and flat hitting helping her power back into contention. Out of nowhere she had a set point as the wind helpfully floated a lob inside the baseline, and as Sabalenka became increasingly erratic, shouting to her box and complaining vociferously, Shnaider locked in. Diana Shnaider kept her cool despite the difficult conditions to continue her brilliant run in Paris (Getty)After the first two sets took 48 and 53 minutes respectively the decider was over in 33. Sabalenka leaked 57 unforced errors, 17 in the final set alone. She could not power-hit her way through the wind and through Shnaider’s increasing confidence. In a mammoth Sabalenka service game in the decider, with Shnaider leading 1-0, the Belarusian risked a default as a first serve clattered back at her and she drop-kicked the ball in the direction of the line judges and the crowd, putting her hands up sheepishly after. Shnaider responded by planting a forehand winner well out of reach. At 3-0 down Sabalenka punted another shot long and crouched down on the court for a brief moment to compose herself, with the crowd applauding sympathetically. It was all going horribly wrong and she had no response. Hitting more aggressively only resulted in more errors; her first serve disappeared; there was no Plan B. She shanked the ball into the net and sent her racquet flying, shouting at her box. At 4-0 down she could not pounce on a weak Shnaider second serve, and the Russian – who played an excellent final set – had only to keep calm in the face of her opponent imploding. Serving to stay in the match Sabalenka thumped the ball into the net, handing over three match points, before the wind did her a favour by sending a Shnaider lob floating long. Sabalenka had no answers and grew increasingly irate as the match wore on (Getty)No matter: Sabalenka had another error up her sleeve, a tame shank into the net, and the collapse was complete. “I don’t know when that was the last time that happened to me,” she said afterwards, “[losing] 10 games in a row. I guess mentally I got into a very deep, dark hole, and couldn’t get back mentally on track. “I don’t know why they would keep the roof open, it was crazy windy. But how can I complain if almost for the whole match everything was working okay for me, but then it just slipped away. Even though I was winning it was very dirty tennis. She played unbelievable in those conditions, but it’s a big question [why the roof was kept open].”A beaming Shnaider said she was “speechless” after the result; she will play another player on the run of her life, Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska, in the last four. For Sabalenka though this was another golden chance that went begging. This was the first time she had lost a set 6-0 since playing Donna Vekic in Dubai in 2024, and this time came on the biggest stage, at a tournament where she was the prohibitive favourite. But while Sinner’s collapse last week was physical, this felt entirely psychological. As has happened so many times, Sabalenka’s biggest weakness, in a tennis game which often feels physically impenetrable, was her own mind. How she responds, and how she gets herself out of this “dark hole”, will be crucial as she continues her bid to build herself into the most complete player on the tour.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKyle Shanahan believes 49ers rookie RB can become asset in the passing gameSANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - MAY 28: Kaelon Black #26 of the San Francisco 49ers works out during a team OTA practice at SAP Performance Facility on May 28, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) | Getty Images The most polarizing pick for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2026 NFL Draft was third-round running back Kaelon Black, marking the fifth time in six years that the team took a back in the draft.Black was controversial for a variety of reasons. Not only did most evaluators have him as a late Day 3 pick, but he was also only the third running back selected in the draft behind first-rounders Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. Black also didn’t have much volume as a pass-catcher during his time at Indiana, raising questions about the fit with the 49ers.But head coach Kyle Shanahan was quite confident in the selection, even revealing that Black was the No. 2 running back on their board heading into the draft, which led to the process of taking him at No. 90.Now, with organized team activities (OTAs) starting, how does Shanahan feel about Black’s comfort level in the offense, especially as a pass-catcher?“I see a guy that I think could be developed in the pass game,” Shanahan said of Black. “I mean, we definitely were excited about him, and the first thing we loved about him was him as a runner. But we’ve gotten a lot of guys here who didn’t start out great in the pass game, [but] have the skillset to do it. They just haven’t worked at it that much. And I know JP (Jordan Mason) was like that. I know Elijah [Mitchell] was like that. I thought those guys got a lot better. And I see Kaelen being the same way. He’s got the skills to do it, just needs to work at it.”Last year, the 49ers drafted Jordan James in the fifth round after taking Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round the year before that. This offseason, it seems like Guerendo could be on the hot seat following the addition of Black, but there still isn’t a proven pass-catcher on the team to back up Christian McCaffrey.Earlier in the offseason, Shanahan had mentioned the hope of getting McCaffrey some help. But the biggest challenge in the past years has been the lack of a pass-catching back, which makes it hard to take the star off the field. And currently, there isn’t a clear-cut option that can absolve McCaffrey as a pass-catcher.So, we’ll see how the 49ers running back competition goes this offseason, with Black’s development as a receiver being a focal point. Shanahan believes he has the skill set to become an asset there. It’s just a matter of how quickly that will happen and how impactful Black can be after being a third-round pick this offseason.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat We Think We Know: Julian Sayin will play much better against Texas this time aroundOhio State Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin (10) runs during the NCAA football game against the UCLA Bruins at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Nov. 15, 2025. | Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images From now until preseason camp starts in August, Land-Grant Holy Land will be writing articles around a different theme every week. This week is all about the things we think, but aren’t 100% confident on. You can catch up on all of the Theme Week content here and all our “What We Think We Know” articles here.Last year, Ohio State opened the season with a game Ryan Day referred to as “a monster.” Opening against No. 1 Texas, the Buckeyes were also opening a new era at quarterback with Julian Sayin set to make his first career start.Sayin threw for 120 yards and a touchdown in a 14-7 win against the No. 1 Longhorns, completing 12-of-20 pass attempts. His longest completion was a 40-yard touchdown to Carnell Tate, coming in the fourth quarter and giving Ohio State a 14-0 lead. Playing against a tenacious Texas defense that allowed just over 200 yards, Sayin didn’t wow anyone, but he didn’t lose the game for Ohio State. The Buckeyes put him in favorable situations, not having him do too much. Sayin didn’t take too many deep shots, settling for easy completions that kept drives moving and weren’t thrown into harm’s way. This year, though, Sayin is potentially going to unleash against Texas. By now, we know what Sayin can do as the Buckeyes’ quarterback. The training wheels have been off for a long time. He’s a quarterback who’s not afraid to take deep shots and throw into tight windows. Playing on the road at Texas this season, that stuff will matter. Not to mention, this will be the second time Sayin faces off against Arch Manning at quarterback. Sayin and Jeremiah Smith have a fantastic connection despite having played only 14 games together. Smith’s route tree with Sayin is extensive, ranging from go-routes to crossing routes to slants to everything in between. There’s a trust between the two, which is great given Smith’s stature in the overall picture of college football. Smith is a big-time wide receiver. There’s that perception and worry that wide receivers of Smith’s caliber can be prima donnas and not have patience for the development of young quarterbacks. That has not been the case at all with Jeremiah Smith. If anything, he’s helped Sayin get to where he is today at quarterback.Manning, whether he was overhyped or not, has become a really good quarterback. If he continues to progress the way he has, Manning is going to be one of, if not the top prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft.Sayin and Manning will meet for the second time this September. It could be a prolific game from both quarterbacks and offenses. Saturday night, on ABC, Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit are on the call, College Gameday will be in Austin that morning, and this game may not be the first time we see these two teams this season. These two programs could very easily play each other in the College Football Playoff. For Sayin, he’s absolutely going to play much better against Texas this season. First off, he’s going to throw more than 20 times. Ohio State may have to throw a lot anyway, since their rushing attack will likely still be a work in progress. Sayin has proven he can carry the Buckeyes’ offense for an entire game, and he may have to do that against the Longhorns.Given what we saw in his first season as the Ohio State’s starting quarterback, I am confident Sayin will go out against Texas and put up one of his best games of the season. Hopefully, it will be enough for the Buckeyes to win their third straight game over the Longhorns in less than two years.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMSesame Street posted a sweet message of love for Pride month. Cue the backlash. On June 1, the official Sesame Street social media account posted a simple message of acceptance for LGBTQ+ people to honor the start of Pride Month. “Happy #PrideMonth from Sesame Street!” it read. “Join us in celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ members of our community.” Related Red states are declaring June something other than Pride Month in latest anti-LGBTQ+ trend The text was accompanied by a close-up photo of the colorful characters’ fur, striped to make a rainbow. As is par for the course on social media these days for any company that supports the LGBTQ+ community, conservatives are up in arms, claiming the post is akin to sexualizing children. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The outrage has come from a variety of popular right-wing social media accounts, including Libs of TikTok, Turning Point USA, and Gays Against Groomers, the latter of which declared, “PRIDE IS NOT FOR KIDS.” Libs of TikTok – which has been accused of stochastic terrorism for spreading anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda about schools and teachers – was so enraged about Sesame Street’s message that it posted twice – once in the replies and once as a repost. This is absolutely disgusting. Isn’t this a show for kids?? Why are you guys pushing this onto children?— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) June 2, 2026 This is a kid’s show!Sesame Street is grooming your kids. This is absolutely disgusting https://t.co/Hmr28eyub1— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) June 2, 2026 This is literally a show meant for young children https://t.co/oc89xy4sTJ— Turning Point USA (@TPUSA) June 1, 2026 Hey @sesamestreet why do you feel it’s appropriate to push a sexual agenda when your show is designed for 3-5 year olds?! PRIDE IS NOT FOR KIDS https://t.co/WWBgWkynve— Gays Against Groomers (@againstgrmrs) June 1, 2026 Thousands of others piled on the hate, with many accusing the show of grooming children by teaching them to accept LGBTQ+ people. “Groomer” is the slur Republicans give to LGBTQ+ people and allies who want to tell kids it’s okay to be themselves. You are a CHILDREN show. Sexual orientation isn’t a child issue, unless they are being victimized or forced to participate unknowingly. Sick sick sick freaks. Don't let your kids watch this absolute garbage. https://t.co/xfsH3qCGXL— Jack (@jackunheard) June 1, 2026 We do not need pride month proclamations from the Sesame Street X account. This is what people mean when they say the agenda is being pushed on kids. Please stop this. https://t.co/J4nFqLgiw8— Rob Smith (@robsmithonline) June 1, 2026 Why is young children’s show (I mean your audience consists of TODDLERS) promoting sexual orientations? I can’t believe we are still doing this in 2026…— Moms for Liberty-Harris County Texas (@M4LHarris) June 2, 2026 Sesame Street has long supported LGBTQ+ people and has a history of celebrating Pride Month. The show has also prioritized LGBTQ+ inclusion over the past few decades, featuring a smattering of out celebrity guests and introducing a married gay couple with a daughter in 2021. Conservatives often feel triggered by Sesame Street over its progressive values. In 2021, the official Twitter account for the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) posted a graphic that showed Ernie, Bert, and Big Bird with a big red “X” next to their images and the words “NOT INVITED.” “Big Bird & Big Gov. Mandates?” the text accompanying the image read. “NO THANK YOU.” The message seemed to imply anger at the show for supporting the COVID-19 vaccines. This year’s Pride is also experiencing an outsized backlash due to growing Republican anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment. A new Gallup poll found that Republican support for LGBTQ+ people has dropped to its lowest point since 2010, no doubt due to the official Republican party’s increasing attacks on LGBTQ+ equality as a way to rile up their base and gain support. The poll found Republicans’ support for LGBTQ+ rights has been steadily declining throughout the 2020s, while independents’ and Democrats’ support has held steady. This is perhaps because Republicans tend to live in a different media atmosphere than most Americans, viewing cable news, podcasts, and social media content that depicts LGBTQ+ people as threats to children. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNorth Carolina players to watch for USC in NCAA Super RegionalUSC baseball faces a strong test against No. 5 North Carolina baseball in the NCAA Chapel Hill Super Regional this coming weekend. Tar Heels Wire looked at some of the role players who could be X-factors for the regional against USC. "Rom Kellis started in right field for UNC on Sunday, hitting in both plate appearances and later scoring. This followed a strong ACC Tournament, during which Kellis made the All-Tourney team. Carter French, who typically starts in right and splits time with Kellis, is more of a defensive ace. Kellis brings the bat. Sure, you want strong defense, especially as teams get deeper into the NCAA Tournament. Kellis' bat is too hot to keep him out of the starting lineup."Tar Heels Wire later added this note:"In his first year as a Diamond Heel and last as a collegiate athlete, (Colin) Hynek delivered a memorable moment in Saturday's 7-5 win over ECU. The Georgia State transfer mashed a game-tying, 3-run shot in the fourth-inning, which spurred North Carolina's offense. Hynek recorded another hit that day, while scoring two runs."North Carolina has an unsung pitcher, Folger Boaz, who struggled for portions of the regular season but improved in the regional. UNC reliever Caden Glauber is 10-0, a secret weapon in the bullpen. The Tar Heels have a first baseman, Erik Paulsen, who stepped up in the regional as well. The stars -- Owen Hull and Jake Schaffner -- carried the freight during the season, but these other role players emerged in the regional. You can begin to see that Carolina can win -- and attack -- in many different ways and from many different sources of production. The Trojans can't just focus on a few stars. This is a complete team the Trojans are visiting in Chapel Hill. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: North Carolina baseball role players demand USC's complete attention0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

His mission, however, is to bring Chelsea back to its former glory. His plan, however, is to poach players from Real Madrid’s squad who he sees as possessing the right profile for his plans.Brahim Diaz, Fran Garcia and Eduardo Camavinga are all on his radar, and it is clear that the manager is targeting fringe players who he knows will be available easily in the summer.Eyes on MourinhoCan Mourinho hold on to his stars? (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)As it stands, Diaz, Garcia and Camavinga all appear transferable given their lack of prominence last season. With the manager changing, however, matters may change as well next season.Jose Mourinho appears to be the best-placed candidate to take over in June, and a lot will thus boil down to how much the new manager has the players in his plans.Given Mourinho’s style, many of the players who did not enjoy prominence last season may well see their stocks skyrocket. Alonso’s plan to poach Real Madrid stars, thus, will boil down to Mourinho’s preferences.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Imagine that pressure at 15’: Jos Buttler opens up on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi feverRoyal Challengers Bengaluru may have retained the IPL trophy, but according to former England captain and Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, one teenager overshadowed every other storyline in the tournament. Speaking on the YouTube podcast For The Love of Cricket, Buttler reflected on the recently concluded IPL 2026 season and reserved special praise for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, whose remarkable campaign captured the imagination of cricket fans across the world. While discussing RCB's successful title defence and Gujarat Titans' defeat in the final, Buttler made it clear that Sooryavanshi's performances stood above everything else. "RCB won the trophy and they are the story of the IPL. But Vaibhav is nearly the IPL this year. He is the story of the tournament. MVP, 700-plus runs and at a faster strike rate than everyone else. It was amazing to watch," he said. Although Rajasthan Royals were not involved in the title clash, Sooryavanshi was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the final on Sunday. The teenage sensation watched the match alongside ICC chairman Jay Shah before collecting five major individual awards for a season that rewrote several records. His numbers reflected the scale of his dominance. Sooryavanshi accumulated 776 runs during the season at a staggering strike rate of 237.3 and cleared the ropes 72 times. His performances earned him the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player award, Emerging Player award, Super Striker award, and the distinction of finishing as the tournament's leading six-hitter. Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad believes the youngster's influence has already stretched far beyond the IPL. Broad suggested Sooryavanshi could be the first cricketer to achieve worldwide fame before earning an international cap. "I said in my last podcast that I have not seen a player become an international star without having played international cricket. In England, people are talking about him. They may not even be IPL fans, but they are saying, 'Oh my God, have you seen Sooryavanshi? He's unbelievable.' He has become a world star. Not like Kohli or anything, but he is probably the first player to become a world star without playing international cricket," Broad said. Buttler also revealed how enormous Sooryavanshi's popularity has become in India. Recalling Rajasthan Royals' fixture in Kolkata, he said the crowd's support for the teenager was impossible to ignore. "His impact in India is massive. He is the guy everyone is talking about. I was chatting with Rajasthan Royals' former owner Manoj Badale, who told me that in Kolkata, half the stadium had turned up to watch Vaibhav and they were all wearing his RR jersey. "Imagine that pressure at 15 when you get off the bus and see that, but he has soaked it all up. And when he bats, I don't know whether Rajasthan Royals have done it or the tournament, but there is a song for him, this Sooryavanshi song, that comes on when he's blasting you." The former England skipper then admitted he would be eager to see the teenager included in India's squad for next month's five-match T20I series in England, even if that prospect may not be welcomed by England's bowlers. "I hope to see him in England. Well, maybe not for our bowlers. But it will be worth it because you can see it among the players and support staff. Everyone is intrigued and I want to see this guy." Whether that opportunity arrives remains uncertain. Sooryavanshi is set to feature in the upcoming India A one-day tri-series, a competition selectors reportedly view as an important assessment ahead of discussions over a possible T20I debut during the England tour.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCharges dismissed against former Georgia football receiver Zachariah BranchMisdemeanor charges against former Georgia football and current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Zachariah Branch stemming from an incident in downtown Athens in the early morning of April 19 have been dismissed, his attorney told the Athens Banner-Herald.A dismissal of the charges of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and obstructing a public sidewalk, were dismissed on Tuesday afternoon by Solicitor Will Fleenor, Kim Stephens said.“After reviewing all evidence, including videos, and discussing the case with us, the State agreed to dismiss all charges against Mr. Branch yesterday,” Stephens said in a message on Wednesday morning. “Zachariah cooperated fully with law enforcement and did not commit a crime on the night of his arrest and never should have been arrested. We are glad this matter is over and that Mr. Branch’s excellent reputation and good name restored.”Police had said Branch was given multiple verbal commands to move from a sidewalk outside the Cloud Bar in downtown Athens where a crowd had gathered blocking the entrance. The Falcons drafted the USC transfer, who set a single season Georgia reception record in 2025 when he had 81 catches for 811 yards and 6 touchdowns, in the third round of the NFL Draft on April 24.The Falcons said the arrest days before the draft didn’t affect their evaluation of Branch and he said he wasn’t anxious of how it could have affected his draft stock. “If you look at the things of what transpired,” Branch said, “you’ll understand why I wasn’t anxious.”This article originally appeared on Athens Banner-Herald: Charges dismissed Falcons, former Georgia receiver Zachariah Branch0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

(AP) — A man holding hostages inside a building in California that houses a bank and a school district office has been shot and killed by the FBI, police said Wednesday. All the hostages are free and none was harmed, the Bakersfield Police Department said in a statement. The suspect was killed in “an officer-involved shooting involving Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel,” the department said. The standoff in downtown Bakersfield ended about 12 hours after police were called to the building, police said. The standoff began Tuesday afternoon when officers responded to a call of a bomb threat at the Chase Bank building, a four-story office building with dark-tinted glass windows all around. Bakersfield Police said the man barricaded himself inside with several people. Two hostages were released Tuesday after negotiations with authorities. A spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase said the bank branch is on the ground floor.Nearby buildings, including City Hall and the police headquarters that are just a block away, were evacuated and some roads were temporarily closed during the hostage situation. Bakersfield, a city of about 380,000 residents, is the seat of largely rural Kern County and is about 100 miles (160 kms) northeast of Los Angeles. Officers established a perimeter around the area and warned the public to stay away. The police department’s crisis negotiation team had been in contact with the suspect by telephone. APNEWS.COMA diet of royal jelly isn’t the only thing that makes a queen beeA hive of honeybees on display at the Vermont Beekeeping Supply booth at the annual Vermont Farm Show at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, Vt., Jan. 28, 2014. (AP Photo/Andy Duback, File)2026-06-03T15:00:08Z NEW YORK (AP) — Scientists have identified a group of worker honeybees that are specially adapted to build their queen’s waxy abode within the hive.Worker bees perform a myriad of jobs to keep up the hive, including collecting food, nurturing young bees and caring for the queen, who lays all the eggs. New research reveals that the honeybees responsible for crafting the queen’s home effectively run a fever to help melt and blend special chemicals into the wax.“No one had ever thought that there might be a specialized group of workers that were building these queen cells,” said bee researcher Julia Bowsher with North Dakota State University, who had no role in the study. These newly identified bees were younger and also had patterns of expression in their genes that made them uniquely suited to the task. The resulting peanut-shaped home was also distinct in its makeup, as it was made of softer wax with a higher melting point than the kind used to build worker bees’ homes. Queens are raised eating royal jelly secreted from the glands of worker bees and scientists have long believed diet was the main key to making a monarch. The new findings, published Wednesday in the journal Nature, suggest that the queen’s environment might also play a role. To test that theory, researchers raised baby queens in cups capped with either queen or worker wax. Despite eating royal jelly, the queens raised in worker wax were smaller and didn’t survive as well. Read More “For centuries, we believed ‘you are what you eat’ was the only rule for making a queen bee. Our study rewrites that rule to say ‘you are where you live, too,’” Kai Wang, a study co-author with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said in an email. The findings offer a rare look inside the hive, but questions remain.Honeybees pollinate and ensure the survival of crops such as blueberries, squash, watermelon and almonds. Further research is needed to learn more about the secret lives of queen cell-building bees and the exact combination of factors that produce the hive’s head honcho. “I would really like to know more about the specific chemical composition of this wax and which active ingredients are directly affecting the growth of the queens,” Bowsher said.___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Department of Science Education and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLeBron James could be done with basketball and the signs are everywhereLeBron James could be done with basketball and the signs are everywhere originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.LeBron James might finally retire from basketball. The Los Angeles Lakers just lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs. Now, many fans think the superstar will walk away before next season. This talk of retirement grows louder every single day.Bleacher Report says retirement is a real option this time. Team sources say LeBron does not want a long farewell tour. If he leaves, he wants a quiet exit. After the last game, LeBron said he does not know his future. He will decide by August. He wants to see if he still loves the hard daily training. Five hours of body work before games is very tough for him.LeBron is 41 years old now. He just finished his 23rd season in the NBA. He still plays well. He scored about 21 points per game this year. That matches his rookie scoring average. But playing an extra 24th season requires too much physical energy. The Lakers' situation also makes retirement likely. The team gave Luka Doncic a huge contract extension. The Lakers now build around Doncic instead of the 41-year-old storied veteran. The Lakers forward must take a smaller role if he stays. Also, the team does not have enough money to buy other great players. Austin Reaves might leave the team too.LeBron is now an unrestricted free agent. He can choose any team. But joining a championship team means taking a big pay cut. Other teams do not have the money to pay his old salary. The Lakers' leader is already a wealthy billionaire. He does not need a paycheck to sit on the bench.LeBron said his retirement should be a celebration of life. He accomplished everything possible in professional basketball. Walking away now makes complete sense for his future life. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGary Vaynerchuk leaves The Rock and Steve Austin off his wrestling Mount RushmorePhoto by Louis Grasse/PXimages/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThe Mount Rushmore of wrestling is an age-old debate that fans will have many different opinions on.Depending on your age, the year you started watching wrestling and more, there are countless superstar names to pick from. There are some obvious answers that appear on many lists, of course, including the likes of The Rock and Stone Cold Steven Austin. But Gary Vaynerchuk has decided to leave both of the WWE icons off his list.Photo by Moses Robinson/Getty Images for Wendy'sGary Vaynerchuk picks The Undertaker over The Rock and Stone Cold Steve AustinThe Rock and Stone Cold were the two biggest stars during the Attitude Era, a period many will argue was the last golden age of wrestling. However, when speaking on the Chris Van Vliet podcast this week, Vaynerchuk snubbed them both.As expected, Hulk Hogan was selected, while Gary also picked Ric Flair and Andre the Giant. But when realising that he should choose at least one name from the Attitude Era, he overlooked Austin, Dwayne Johnson, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart to instead opt for The Undertaker. He said: “I think the Mount Rushmore of wrestling is Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and I got to give one to the Attitude Era. I will go with, believe it or not, I’m gonna go with The Undertaker, actually.“I know Rock and Austin and Bret Hart and Michaels, but I think those, I think, I don’t think people understand Andre the Giant carried wrestling through the 70s.”Undertaker may not be everyone’s favourite wrestler of all time, but a case could perhaps be made that he is one of the most underrated performers in the history of WWE.Very few people were able to remain at the top of the card for as long as he did, while still somehow staying relevant and entertaining. It is easy to forget that Rock and Austin’s runs at the summit in the late 90s/early 2000s only really lasted for four to five years, while Undertaker was a major draw in the 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and even for a brief time in the 2020s.Read more:Latest figures show WWE’s Raw on Netflix viewership down by 400,000 compared to March 23Nick Khan has a clear message about social media criticism of WWEWWE’s plan for Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi’s third match shared as Clash in Italy finish questioned0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe real reason why LA Rams chose to trade for Myles Garrett over AJ Brown should worry PatriotsPhoto by Randy Litzinger/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesThe New England Patriots may have landed AJ Brown, but the Los Angeles Rams’ reported reason for passing on him adds a worrying layer to the trade. The concern is not about Brown’s talent. He remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous receivers and gives New England the kind of No. 1 option it badly needed. The issue is what another aggressive contender reportedly saw before choosing a different blockbuster path.Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty ImagesJeff McLane says Los Angeles Rams backed away from AJ Brown after reviewing medicalsSpeaking on the Uncovering the Birds podcast, NFL expert Jeff McLane explained why the Rams did not end up being Brown’s landing spot.“The Rams, they were involved in trade negotiations with the Eagles and reportedly, and from what I understand, I’ve confirmed that as well, that they had gotten medicals and they weren’t satisfied with what they saw,” McLane said. That is the part that should make New England pause. If the Rams were deep enough into talks to review Brown’s medical information, their decision to step away suggests the concern was not casual.Los Angeles is not a timid team in the trade market. This is a franchise that has repeatedly spent premium assets for stars, which makes its reported hesitation around Brown’s medicals more notable.Los Angeles Rams choosing Myles Garrett over AJ Brown creates New England Patriots concernMcLane also said the Rams’ stance helps explain why Brown’s market may not have reached the level some expected.“And that was sort of why they backed out. So that explains why AJ’s value on the market, partly, I think, explains why his value wasn’t what you might have thought it would be,” McLane added. The Patriots ultimately landed Brown from the Eagles for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, giving Drake Maye a true top receiver. The Rams went in a different direction, acquiring Garrett from the Browns for Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. That contrast is what makes the story uncomfortable for New England. Los Angeles did not avoid risk altogether; it simply chose to spend heavily on Garrett instead of Brown.Brown can still be a massive win for the Patriots if he stays healthy and gives Maye the physical target the offense has missed. But if McLane’s report is accurate, the worry is obvious. New England may have accepted a medical risk that another win-now team decided was not worth taking.Read more:New England Patriots OC compares AJ Brown to Tom Brady’s phenomenal teammateAJ Brown admits he’s not ‘as close’ with Jalen Hurts as before, answers if there’s any ‘bad blood’AJ Brown reveals the Patriots merchandise in his house for years, even during Eagles stint0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho is Maja Chwalinska? The Polish qualifier on stunning run to French Open semi-finalsThe women’s French Open semi-finals will feature the eighth, 15th, and either the top or 25th seeds - as well as the world No 114, who came through qualifying on a storming run into the final four. Poland’s Maja Chwalinska has won eight matches in a row, including three in Roland-Garros qualifying, to make her maiden grand slam semi-final - and has made history as only the second woman to achieve that feat in Paris, after Nadia Podoroska in 2020. She came through the junior ranks playing doubles with compatriot Iga Swiatek, who has since risen to the top of the sport and won six grand slam titles, including four at Roland-Garros.But this time it is the much lower-ranked Chwalinska who is the last Pole standing on the clay - having only one won grand slam match before this tournament, when she beat Katerina Siniakova at Wimbledon four years ago.Her stunning run has evoked memories of Emma Raducanu’s fairytale run from qualifying to the US Open title in 2021, and provided a second feelgood story in successive years after home favourite Lois Boisson’s run to the semis in Paris last year.Who is Maja Chwalinska?Born in Miechów, 40km north of Krakow, Chwalinska was a talented junior doubles player, reaching the girls’ doubles final of the Australian Open in 2017 alongside Swiatek. She made her senior grand slam qualifying debut at the Australian Open in 2020, before taking an indefinite break from tennis after a first-round defeat in qualifying at SW19 in 2021, revealing that she had suffered from depression. Then aged 19, she associated tennis with “pressure, stress and crying”, and did not know if she would ever return to the sport. But after moving back to live with family and seeking professional help, she rediscovered some enjoyment in the sport and returned after four months.“The results don't define me as much as they did before,” she said. “I just couldn't differentiate [between] Maja and the tennis player. I was just one. I just needed time to kind of figure it out, and also do something else, not just tennis.”Chwalinska reacts after winning her quarter-final against Kalinskaya (AP)This French Open is only her third major tournament ever, but she has beaten a string of top players, including 2024 Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng, 23rd seed Elise Mertens, and former world No 3 Maria Sakkari. All but one of her matches so far have been won in straight sets. Prior to this French Open she had never beaten a top-50 player; now she has three scalps to her name and counting. She will now shoot up into the top 50 herself off the back of these results.Due to her ranking Chwalinska primarily plays on the lower-tier ITF and WTA 125 Tours, winning titles at the Florianópolis Open, Brazil; Montreux, Switzerland and most recently in Oeiras, Portugal. All three of her 125 titles have come on clay, while she has also reached five doubles finals on clay, winning three of those. At 5’5” Chwalinska lacks the height and power of some of her opponents, but the left-hander plays a wily, crafty game, mixing drop shots and slices with looping moonballs and killing the pace of the ball to stifle opponents and break up any rhythm. Chwalinska's crafty game of slices and drop shots has caused opponents problems (AP)She told the WTA: “I know that I'm playing different tennis than most of the girls on tour. I don't have the [physical] conditions to play strong, so I need to develop a different kind of weapons for myself. I definitely played differently, and I think it helps me a lot against these players.”She told reporters after that win: “I just try to change the rhythm a lot. I feel like it's pretty tough to play against this kind of style, because you don't have any rhythm, and you just need to be very focused because every ball can be different. I'm aware that it can be very annoying for other players. I just try to use it as much as I can.”The tactic worked excellently against 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya in Wednesday’s quarter-final, with the Russian struggling to break down her defence and find any momentum. Windy conditions on Court Philippe-Chatrier also played in Chwalinska’s favour due to the spin and variety in her game.Chwalinska raced to 5-1 up in the first set before being broken back for 5-2 and again for 5-4, and demonstrated her mental resilience too after Kalinskaya levelled proceedings at 5-5. Chwalinska ultimately prevailed in the tie-break and held off another fightback by the Russian in the second set, coming out on top after 12 breaks of serve in a tense encounter to win 7-6 6-3 and reach the last four.“I honestly don’t know what’s going on,” she said afterwards, looking amazed. “Every single match here is crazy.”She has already doubled her career prize money having pocketed €750,000 euros (around £650,000) for making the semi-finals, where she will play 25th seed Diana Shnaider.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Yankees wouldn't be 'enthusiastic' about reunion with All-Star closerWhy Yankees wouldn't be 'enthusiastic' about reunion with All-Star closer originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Even if it makes sense for their current roster needs, the New York Yankees will not be making a trade for their former All-Star closer. The left-hander departed the club on bad terms, and it's clear he is not that fond of the Yankees organization. Aroldis Chapman is still throwing gas for the Boston Red Sox, but could be a trade candidate at this year's deadline because of his club's struggles. "Chapman's contract includes a $13 million option for 2027 that vests with 40 innings this year, so he's not really a rental, which could appeal to some teams," Mike Axisa of CBS Sports wrote Wednesday. "Even at age 38, Chapman has again been out-of-this-world good this season." Meanwhile, the Yankees have had bullpen troubles, including with closer David Bednar, who runs himself into trouble more often than not.New York's front office would be wise to target relievers for its postseason run, but Chapman is not the right guy. MORE: Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius"On the field, a reunion with the Yankees makes sense, though I don't think either side would be enthusiastic about it," Axisa added. During the offseason, Chapman openly spoke badly about the Yankees, saying he would rather retire than wear the pinstripes again. Sure, he's a lockdown closer that the Yankees could utilize, but there are serious questions about how adding him would impact the clubhouse. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRumor Opens Door For LA Clippers to Get MVP Candidate to Pair With Kawhi Leonard in 26-27USA TODAY SportsA new NBA rumor opens the door for the Los Angeles Clippers to flip their fifth overall pick in this month’s NBA Draft for an MVP candidate from this past season. Before this year’s NBA trade deadline, the Clippers did the right thing. With the team nowhere close to being a serious title contender, they traded some of their valuable veterans. They moved James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a deal for Darius Garland. But the more important trade was sending Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers in a risky deal that landed them the fifth pick in this month’s draft. The team seemed to be heading in the right direction by getting younger and rebuilding with a potential star from the draft. However, rumors have persisted that the team might be open to moving the selection to pair current top star Kawhi Leonard with another All-Star caliber player. Well, the door may be open to getting an elite star this summer. On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm reported that the Boston Celtics cannot be ruled out in the upcoming Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market. Despite management’s claims, they have no intentions of pursuing the future Hall of Famer or trading Jaylen Brown. The NBA insiders suggest the team could move quietly in the shadows toward a deal. Could the LA Clippers join a three-team trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo?USA TODAY SportsBut they also add that “a multi-team deal in which Brown headed elsewhere could serve [the Milwaukee Bucks] very well in terms of other players and assets.” That is where the Clippers could come in. A potential deal framework that would work money-wise, and give the Bucks a strong return, could see Antetokounmpo go to the Celtics, and Brown to the Clippers. The Bucks would receive Darius Garland — a star at an age Milwaukee allegedly would prefer — and Derrick Jones Jr. They would also get the Clippers pick at five, which could land Milwaukee an elite guard prospect like Darius Acuff Jr., and the Celtics selection at 27.It means the Bucks get a 26-year-old who can score 20 points a night and would now have three picks in the first round of a draft that is viewed as one of the deepest in years. More future picks could be added on, but that is a starting point that would satisfy Milwaukee. For the Clippers, they would emerge as a dark horse contender in the West with the combo of 2025-26 MVP candidate Brown and (hopefully a healthy) Leonard.Related HeadlinesNBA Insider Claims This NY Knicks Role Player Can Swing NBA Finals in NYK’s FavorNY Knicks Game Tonight: Channel, Time, Odds & Full NBA Finals Schedule vs. SpursNBA Experts Detail NY Knicks X-Factor That Can Have Huge Impact on NBA Finals Win0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy things worked out perfectly for Kentucky transfer Milan MomcilovicIt's been an interesting couple of months for Milan Momcilovic. The 6-foot-8 forward entered the transfer portal and tested the NBA draft waters, leaving all possible options open for the next chapter of his basketball career.Momcilovic told The Des Moines Register that his preference was to go to the NBA, despite the lucrative and attractive alternatives he had in college. While the former Iowa State star might be slightly disappointed that his NBA dreams won't be realized next season, there are a few reasons why staying in college for another year is the best thing that could've happened to him.BREAKING: Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic, the best shooter in the country and the No. 1 player to enter the portal this spring, has committed to Kentucky. pic.twitter.com/Xn8Q1ECei3— Jeff Borzello (@jeffborzello) June 2, 2026USA TODAY Sports reported that Momcilovic elected to transfer to Kentucky, which had kept in touch with the transfer portal target via Zoom meetings this spring. With a strong season at a different school, perhaps with a different dynamic than he is used to at Iowa State, Momcilovic could ultimately boost his draft stock heading into 2027. Scouts could look favorably upon his ability to thrive in various situations, which is something he will have to do at the next level anyway.Additionally, Momcilovic has one more chance to prove that he can contribute to winning in ways other than scoring at the college level. He's a prolific three-point shooter but has left fans wanting more on the rebounding end for someone his size. Momcilovic has only averaged three boards per game throughout his college career at six-foot-eight, and a strong season on the glass could help round out his prospect profile.Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for Momcilovic and his family, Kentucky backed up the Brinks truck to bring him to the program. The forward is reportedly receiving more than $6 million next season, which is much more than he would have earned in the NBA as a late first-round or second-round pick. All things considered, the result puts Momcilovic in a favorable position to improve on the court while adding to his bank account off of it.Contact/Follow @College_Wire on X and @College_Wires on Threads. APNEWS.COMGeorge Santos reported to prosecutors over suspicious Kalshi trades, AP source saysFormer U.S. Rep. George Santos leaves federal court after being sentenced to more than seven years in prison for fraud and identity theft, Friday, April 25, 2025, in Central Islip, N.Y. (AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson)2026-06-03T01:19:03Z NEW YORK (AP) — A prediction market reported former U.S. Rep. George Santos to federal prosecutors after he boasted he’d be going to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, then bet against his own attendance, according to a person familiar with the investigation.Kalshi, the online prediction marketplace, referred Santos to the Department of Justice after detecting suspicious trades made by him ahead of Trump’s Feb. 24 speech, the person said. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly.Kalshi also reported the trades to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a federal regulatory body that has vowed to crack down on insider trading in prediction marketplaces. The Justice Department and the CFTC didn’t immediately respond Tuesday to inquiries from the AP. Santos also did not respond to text messages or phone calls. The referral was first reported by NPR. Santos told NPR that he wasn’t aware of the investigation. He declined to say whether he had a Kalshi account.“I’m not saying yes, I’m not saying no,” Santos told NPR. The convicted ex-congressman had repeatedly discussed his intention to attend the State of the Union, which came just four months after he was granted clemency by Trump in a fraud case that led to his expulsion from the U.S. House. On the eve of Trump’s speech, Kalshi put the odds of Santos attending at close to 75%. Read More Then, minutes into the speech, Santos posted on X that he had been waylaid at the airport. Immediately, several social media users accused him of running another scheme.“Santos talking to his accountant and telling him to open his Kalshi account and bet all his money on No,” one user wrote, alongside a meme of Al Pacino counting money in the movie Scarface. In March, Santos addressed the complaints on his podcast. “I guess people lost money,” he said. “Some people made unexpected money. That’s to show you how fragile these markets are.”Santos, who won office as a Republican after inventing a bogus persona as a Wall Street dealmaker, was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud and identity theft in 2024.After serving just 84 days, he was ordered released by Trump, who called Santos a “rogue” but said he didn’t deserve a harsh sentence and should get credit for voting Republican.Prediction markets, including Kalshi and its chief rival Polymarket, have drawn scrutiny as their businesses have expanded — with some lawmakers urging the platforms to do more to guard against insider trading. Both companies have said they are reporting suspicious trades to federal regulators. Some investigations have led to criminal charges. In April a soldier involved in the military operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was charged with using classified information to win more than $400,000 predicting the date of his capture on Polymarket. In April, the Senate approved a bipartisan resolution to prevent its own members from using prediction markets.___The story has been updated to correct in the first sentence that Santos is a former congressman, not a current one. THEONION.COMWhite House Doctor Claims Trump A Perfectly Healthy 9-Foot-Tall 35-Year OldWASHINGTON—Assuring Americans that a routine medical exam had confirmed the president had no pressing health concerns, Capt. Sean Barbabella, the director of the White House Medical Unit, claimed Wednesday that Donald Trump was a perfectly healthy 9-foot-tall 35-year-old. “After concluding his physical, I can say with confidence that President Trump exhibits normal vitals for a titanic behemoth born in 1991,” Barbabella told reporters, adding that the commander-in-chief’s cardiovascular health was so exemplary that he had finally cracked the three-minute mile. “I can also say that, contrary to some negative health speculations in the press, the president’s capacity to levitate two feet off the ground is undiminished. And in my professional opinion, his pyrokinetic abilities have surpassed those of any world leader in history.” Barbabella went on to state that Trump’s dunking skills remained at NBA-level. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL commissioner Roger Goodell to reportedly 'politely decline' invite to Congress to discuss Sports Broadcasting ActNFL commissioner Roger Goodell has no desire to sit in front of Congress and discussing the Sports Broadcasting Act. Goodell will reportedly “politely decline” an invitation to discuss the NFL’s current media landscape in from of Congress, according to John Ourand of Puck.Goodell received that invitation Monday, as Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, asked Goodell to take part in a June 10 hearing on the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.That act, which gave sports leagues an anti-trust exemption to negotiate their own television deals, has come under fire in recent months due to the NFL’s various streaming deals and the rising costs consumers now have to pay to watch every one of their favorite team’s games.Shortly after sending that invite, Jordan pointed out how much the media landscape has changed since 1961, prompting Congress’ investigation into the issue, per ESPN."Back when the Sports Broadcast Act was passed, the promise was you'll get to watch every one of your team's games for free," Jordan told ESPN. "Things have changed dramatically since 1961."Jordan is far from the only politician to take up the issue. In April, Wisconsin Democrat Tammy Baldwin introduced legislation that would end sports blackouts, making it easier for fans to watch their favorite team’s games. President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over the rising cost of watching NFL games, calling it “very sad” that the ability to watch football was being taken away from fans. Throughout the entire saga, the NFL has leaned heavily on one one talking point, saying the league has the “most fan-friendly model” in sports broadcasting. That statement hasn’t been enough to deter Congress’ investigation. In a letter Monday, Congress explained that its investigation will look into the Sports Broadcasting Act, “which was written before cable or any type of streaming service existed.” Because of that, the act does not touch on whether antitrust deals should apply in those instances. The NFL has leaned heavily on putting games on cable and streaming services in recent seasons. In addition to broadcast deals with ESPN/ABC, NBC Sports and CBS Sports, the NFL now puts select games on Prime Video and Netflix, two streaming services. Many of those services require either a cable subscription or a separate subscription to view those games, which are blacked out for local fans. ESPN, which does not simulcast all of its games on ABC, requires a cable subscription. Both Prime Video and Netflix require separate subscriptions and aren’t available as part of traditional cable packages. While Goodell is expected to decline this invitation, he has appeared in front of Congress before. He discussed allegations of a toxic work environment within the Washington Commanders with Congress in 2022 and appeared at a hearing on concussions in the sport back in 2009.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTop three bargains to target in the first round of fantasy draftsImagine you’re drafting tomorrow in a 12-team PPR league. Who would be the top three bargains to target in the first round? The following is based on current average draft positions (ADPs).The easiest thing about drafting in the opening round is that almost everyone seems safe. The hardest thing is that almost no one seems like a clear-cut bargain. Among the current group in the top 12, most have yellow flags. Ironically, the three highest-ranked players are the safest, and therefore are the best bargains. In other words, this is a draft where you want one of the first three picks. Jahmyr Gibbs (overall-1 ADP) and Bijan Robinson (overall-2) are as safe as they come. Both are only 24 years old, are highly utilized in the passing game, and compete in strong enough offenses to manufacture double-digit touchdowns. Also, neither guy has a strong 1B running behind him. A seemingly fading Isiah Pacheco is backing up Gibbs, while the capable-but-low-ceiling Brian Robinson, Jr. is Bijan’s handcuff. Even if both backups earn roughly 100 touches, it won’t impact the starting RBs’ ceilings. Gibbs had fewer carries and touchdowns last year compared to 2024, yet averaged more fantasy points per game. The same goes for Bijan. How did that happen? Monster target shares. Their floors are through the roof, and their ceilings are sky-high. Give them 250-275 carries, and they’ll be in elite territory. Give them 300+, and they could start breaking fantasy records.Ja’Marr Chase (overall-3 ADP) is the other top first-round bargain. I know: it might not seem exciting compared to rolling the dice on other potentially elite options later in the round. But Chase is only one year removed from 400+ points. He averaged 20.1 points last season in Joe Burrow’s eight starts. Amazingly, he still averaged around 19 points when Burrow was hurt. In other words, Chase is practically QB-proof.No doubt, the Bengals have a chip on their shoulders after posting a 24-and 27-win-loss record since 2023. They also have a supercharged offense, with Chase as the alpha. He’s both safe and uber-elite. That’s what makes a must-draft option at #3.This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Top three bargains to target in the first round of fantasy drafts0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews
