SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRoss Chastain wants to make it up to fan who got hit by exploding brake rotor at Cracker Barrel 400Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty ImagesRoss Chastain says he is trying to track down a young fan who reportedly needed stitches after being struck by debris from his exploding brake rotor during the Cracker Barrel 400.The Trackhouse Racing driver revealed the situation during a recent appearance on the Like a Farmer podcast.Chastain said he wants to make sure the fan is okay and hopes to send something to them after the frightening incident at Nashville Superspeedway.Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty ImagesRoss Chastain trying to contact fan injured during Nashville raceChastain’s race ended early when the right-front brake rotor on his No. 1 Chevrolet exploded during the Cracker Barrel 400. Teammate Connor Zilisch suffered a similar failure in the same race.Reports from the speedway suggested debris from Chastain’s car entered the grandstands, with several spectators sustaining minor injuries.Speaking on the Like a Farmer podcast, Chastain explained that one fan, described to him as a child, reportedly required stitches after being struck by a piece of brake rotor.“When my brake rotor exploded, a kid got hit with a piece and had to go get some stitches. So, we’re reaching out to him now, we’re trying to find him.”Chastain said he and his team are actively trying to identify the fan and check on their wellbeing.“We’re going to get ahold of him, see if he’s okay, and send him some stuff.”The NASCAR Cup Series driver also said he had been told the fan returned to watch the remainder of the race after receiving treatment.“The word was that he went and got stitches, and came back and watched the end of the race. That’s crazy, think about getting hit with a piece of brake rotor from a race car.”The incident clearly left an impression on Chastain, whose focus now appears to be on making contact with the fan and ensuring they are doing well.Multiple brake failures caused chaos during the Cracker Barrel 400Chastain was not the only driver affected by brake problems during the race. Zilisch’s Trackhouse Chevrolet also suffered a right-front brake rotor failure in the opening stages.A.J. Allmendinger and Chris Buescher experienced similar issues, while Ryan Preece saw his race come to an early end after brake rotor debris punctured his radiator. The debris continued to create problems later in the event. On the final restart, Kyle Larson suffered a tire issue that was widely linked to rotor fragments left on the racing surface. For Chastain, the mechanical failure was another setback in a difficult run of results. The 2022 Cup Series championship runner-up has fallen to 26th in the standings. While the race itself ended in disappointment, Chastain’s priority now appears to be finding the fan and making sure the story has a more positive conclusion.Read more:Lando Norris won’t rule out Indy 500 participation, but names the race he will try firstDetroit Grand Prix preview, where to watch, qualifying, and driver informationSantino Ferruci calls for IndyCar schedule change amid concerns after Indy 5000 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM6 most impactful hat tricks in Stanley Cup Final historyHat tricks in the Stanley Cup Final do more than pad a box score. They bend series, define eras and attach a player’s name to June forever.Mitch Marner of the Vegas Golden Knights enjoyed such a night on Saturday during Game 3 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes. Marner turned in the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history and scored four points as the Golden Knights racked up a 4-0 lead.MORE: Ex-Maple Leafs winger rips Mitch Marner for playing like a ‘mouse’ in TorontoHis performance raises the question. Which has been the most impactful of the NHL’s 42 Stanley Cup Final hat tricks. Each of these hat tricks came with a different flavor. The common thread is that none of these performances lived in isolation. They nudged dynasties along, kept would-be challengers at arm’s length and provided the kind of tape that still gets passed around when the Cup Final rolls back around. The next time someone starts piling up goals in June, this is the company they are chasing. This list is about impact, not just style. These are the six hat tricks that either flipped a Final, cemented a legacy or reset the record book.Mitch Marner’s record-setting burst in 2026Mitch Marner’s Game 3 explosion on Saturday night is already etched in the record book as the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history. He needed only 6 minutes and 10 seconds to put three past the Carolina Hurricanes and turn a tight game into what appeared to be a rout. Of course, the Canes rallied out of nowhere to tie the game at 4 and send it to overtime. Golden Knights’ Shea Theodore scored the game-winner in the second extra session to give Vegas a 2-1 series lead.Context matters here. Carolina finally clawed its way back to the Final, and the series was still feeling its way in. Marner’s burst gives Vegas its first real stranglehold moment on the biggest stage.Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard lifts the CanadiensMaurice “Rocket” Richard built his legend on heavy nights in heavy moments. His 1957 Stanley Cup Final hat trick against Boston is an examples. Already the face of the Montreal Canadiens dynasty, Richard delivered three goals in Game 1 to drive a win that helped push Montreal toward another championship in a five-game series. Richard accomplished his hat trick in 6:21, which until Saturday was the quickest in history.By the late 1950s, opponents knew exactly what Richard wanted to do and still could not stop him. The Bruins had taken their swing at slowing Montreal’s cycle and bodying Richard off the puck. He responded by torching them with the full toolkit: speed, that famous cut into the slot and a release that punished every defensive mistake. In a series that was about whether Boston could slow down Montreal’s machine, Richard’s hat trick was their answer: no.Ted Lindsay’s statement for Detroit in 1955Ted Lindsay was never subtle, and his 1955 Final hat trick fit the personality. Facing the Montreal Canadiens in Game 2, Lindsay poured in four total goals for the Detroit Red Wings in a 7–1 win that gave his team a 2-0 series lead. His hat trick in the second period alone did not come in a tight one-goal game, but that is partly the point. This was a message. Detroit was not going quietly, and its star winger was willing to beat Montreal on the scoreboard and in the alleys. That blowout reset the tone of the Final and helped Detroit surge toward the Cup in a seven-game series. When people talk about those mid-50s Wings teams, Lindsay’s Game 2 eruption is one of the tentpole moments.Jari Kurri’s big night for the Oilers in 1990Jari Kurri had already established himself as Wayne Gretzky’s perfect running mate; this was the night he stepped out of the shadow.Kurri’s hat trick during a 7-2 Oilers victory on the road in Game 2 served notice that Edmonton was in charge. He found soft spots all over the offensive zone, punished coverage slips on the power play and reminded everyone that you could not just load up on Gretzky and expect the problem to be solved. Kurri scored a goal in each period, two on the power play. The Oilers rolled to the title in five games for their fifth title in seven years.Wayne Gretzky’s masterpiece vs. Philly in 1985Gretzky turned in his only Stanley Cup Final hat trick against the Philadelphia Flyers in 1985. With his team seeking a second consecutive title, Gretzky did what the world’s best player is supposed to do. He took the series by the throat. The series was tied at 1 before Gretzky knocked in three first-period goals. Edmonton won the game 4-3 and the series 4-1.Philadelphia was overmatched on paper but still had the kind of goaltending and defensive discipline that could drag a game into the third period. Gretzky refused to allow it. He scored in different ways, from distance and in tight, on the rush and in broken play, reminding everyone that his brain was still the biggest advantage on the ice. If you want a single Stanley Cup Final game that explains why Gretzky owns the record books, this is the one you circle.Richard’s hat trick in 1944Yes, Rocket Richard is on this list twice, and he earns it. His hat trick in the 1944 Final against the Chicago Black Hawks is one of the earliest examples of a single player dragging a team through a title series game. He scored all of Montreal’s goals in a 3-1 Game 2 victory on the way to a series sweep. The Canadiens were still assembling what would become their post-war powerhouse. Richard was in the early stages of building his reputation. Chicago pushed them deep into the night, only for Richard to keep answering. Completing a hat trick is hard enough. For a franchise that would become synonymous with June hockey, this was one of the first iconic nights.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Umpiring decisions go in their favour': Pakistan's Khushdil Shah alleges bias towards India in cricketPakistan's all-rounder Khushdil Shah has claimed that India often benefits from favorable umpiring and match-related decisions during India-Pakistan encounters.Speaking on the ARY Podcast alongside teammate Abbas Afridi, Khushdil opened up about the unique pressure and emotions that surround India-Pakistan encounters. However, it was his remarks about alleged bias in key aspects of the game that quickly grabbed attention on social media.According to Khushdil, matches against India carry a different intensity, but he believes several factors tend to work in India's favor during those contests."Matches against India carry a few extra emotions and then the pressure eases a bit. When we were playing, we used to beat them as well," Khushdil said. The left-hander then went a step further, claiming that decisions both on and off the field often benefit the Men in Blue."Things tend to go in their favor during matches. Umpiring decisions go in their favor, as do some dressing-room decisions, and even matches are held according to their wishes," he stated.— CallMeSheri1_ (@CallMeSheri1_) Despite those allegations, Khushdil insisted that victories over India become even more satisfying from Pakistan's perspective because of the perceived challenges."Despite all that, when Pakistan wins, it's especially enjoyable," he added. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArrowhead becomes first D1 girls track program to three-peat since 2011LA CROSSE – For the first time in a decade and a half, a Division 1 girls track and field program has won three straight WIAA state team titles.Arrowhead became the first team since Milwaukee Bradley Tech from 2009-11 to win back-to-back-to-back, doing so in dominating fashion with a 28-point victory over runner-up Neenah on June 6. The Warhawks became the first D1 team since Tech in 2010 to reach the 70-point mark and also became the first team in any division since Edgar in 2013 to score at least 70 points in a single state meet."We've been working towards it all year, so I don't know that they're surprised or however you want to phrase it, but I think that this was always the goal and they accomplished it," Arrowhead coach Bradley Clark said. After a tightly contested 51-46 battle with Neenah in their successful bid to repeat as champions last season, the Warhawks flew even higher in their history-making march toward a third straight crown.Arrowhead won four individual events and the 400-meter relay to outscore the D1 field on those alone. They scored points in eight events overall, with Payton Eicher winning the long jump (19 feet 9 inches) and triple jump (39-9¾) double, while Elise Schroeder buried the state meet pole vault record with a vault of 13-6.The duo of Eicher and Schroeder combined with Josie Bularz and Giselle Huggett to win the 400 relay (46.52 seconds), while fellow senior Avery Bott completed her career with a title in the 400 (55.19). Eicher and Bott also each finished on the podium in the hotly contested 100 final in fourth (11.827) and sixth (11.98), respectively, while Addison Pommerening added a sixth-place finish in the high jump (5-4) during Friday's action."They've obviously accomplished great things across the board, but our high-level talent, when you look at Payton Eicher wins the long jump and the triple, and also taking a top spot in 100, Avery Bott doing it in the sprints, and Elise Schroeder being one of the best vaulters in the nation ... it's just fun to watch," Arrowhead boys coach Chris Herriot said."Those kids are special."Schroeder was noticeably emotional after her magical moment when she steamrolled her way to a third straight pole vault title, becoming the third to do since 2013 in any division and shattering the state meet record by 9 inches. She was a perfect 6-for-6 on vaults from 12 feet to 13-6 before bowing out at 14-2, which would've surpassed her vault of 14 feet at the Millrose Games in April in New York."There's lots of ups and downs in pole vaulting. It's one of those sports, but it's been amazing, and I've been so blessed to have won three times in a row," Schroeder said. "I was super happy. Came out, made 13-6, the best I've done all three years after the past two years of not faring what I've hoped. It's really great to finally do something that I'm very proud of myself for."For Bott, it wasn't the 100/200/400 sprint triple of titles that she had hoped to close her Arrowhead career with, but the joy of being able to hold a team trophy for a third straight season was more than enough."I didn't really think that was ever a possibility coming in here during my freshman year," Bott said on winning a team title. "I've just never really experienced something like that, but to do it three years in a row is just amazing. It's an amazing feeling."Clark said it was the best watching them repeat a season ago and seeing his team be happy "is all I need." The core members of that group are set to move forward in their track careers and a new chapter of the program is set to be written.Still, the special education teacher-turned-championship-winning coach is sad to see such a remarkable group leave the program."I'm gonna miss them a lot," Clark said. "It's definitely going to be different because it's not every time that you have four individual state champs and a relay state champ. I don't know if you can replicate that."Check back at jsonline.com later Sunday for more recaps from the state track and field meet. This article originally appeared on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Arrowhead girls track is first in D1 to three-peat at state since 20110 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid reportedly chasing PSG forward as €150m mystery signingReal Madrid reportedly chasing PSG forward as €150m mystery signing originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. This weekend will see Real Madrid hold their presidential elections, with current president Florentino Perez facing off against Enrique Riquelme for the top spot at the club. In the run-up to Sunday’s polling, both figures would go out and make several claims in order to get the Madridistas’ favor, which included Perez claiming that he’d be bidding "€150 million" for a player from a club in the Champions League. It would take a promise of this magnitude to attempt to gain the support of the Los Blancos supporters, given the recent struggles at the Bernabeu, as the Spanish giants haven’t gotten a single trophy, apart from the 2024 UEFA Super Cup, in the last two seasons.Who could the player be?While there has been a lot of speculation about who this player could be, it appears that he could be coming from the defending back-to-back European champions. As reported by TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, it appears that Madrid could be targeting Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.“Michael Olise, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Vitinha have all been mentioned as potential targets, but TEAMtalk understands from well-placed sources close to the club that they believe the player in question is Paris Saint-Germain superstar winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia,” writes Bailey. The Georgian forward has been a revelation for the Parisians following his move from Serie A giants Napoli a few seasons back, with his heroics in the previous Champions League campaign being a driving force in the club’s winning run, bagging 16 goal involvements across the 16 matches. If this is to be true, and there was a transfer to be arranged, it could cause some headaches moving forward, given the immense depth that Los Blancos have at the left wing already, with the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Kylian Mbappe all being available to fulfill that spot on the pitch.MORE TRANSFER NEWSAston Villa among six Premier League teams eyeing Barcelona wingerManchester United star striker completes move to NapoliChelsea linked to Juventus defender amid potential Cucurella exitLiverpool, Manchester United tied to relegated West Ham starChelsea reveal hefty price tag for defender amid La Liga interestManchester United, Inter Milan being linked to ex-Aston Villa starBrighton being linked to Toulouse's star defender0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPoston grabs lead after third round finish at PGA MemorialAmerican JT Poston grabbed the lead of the PGA Memorial tournament after finishing the storm-halted third round (Dylan Buell)JT Poston seized a four-stroke lead over fellow American Ryan Gerard after Sunday morning's completion of the third round of the storm-interrupted PGA Memorial tournament.Poston made five birdies and two bogeys to complete a three-under par 69 third round to stand on 12-under 204 after 54 holes with Gerard on 208 after a 72 at the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. The final round was set to begin in threesomes off the first and 10th tees in a bid to finish before sunset.Poston, who turned 33 on Monday, is seeking his fourth PGA title, his first since the 2024 Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas.Gerard won his only PGA title at last July's Barracuda Championship.Poston and Gerard shared the lead at nine-under par facing long par putts on the sixth green when thunderstorms halted play on Saturday with most of the field still on the course. When play resumed, Poston saved par from just inside six feet, birdied the par-five seventh hole from 10 feet and the par-three eighth hole from seven feet before a bogey at the ninth.Poston reeled off three birdies in a row starting at 13, the longest putt a 13-footer at the par-five 15th, but then found a bunker at the par-three 16th on his way to a bogey.Gerard missed his 14-foot par putt at the sixth and made bogey but answered with nine-foot birdie putts at the seventh and 10th.He stumbled at 16 with a bogey after needing three shots to find the green then found deep right rough off the 17th tee on the way to another bogey.American Sam Burns was third on 209 with compatriot Wyndham Clark and England's Tommy Fleetwood sharing fourth on 210.Reigning US Open champion JJ Spaun, preparing to defend his title at Shinnecock in two weeks, finished a 68 to stand on 212.Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, trying to become the first player to three-peat at a PGA event since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic from 2009-2011, was on 213 after completing a 68.Second-ranked Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion, ended on 216 after closing a round of 71.js/pb0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHuge contracts wreck Steelers future free agent plansJust days before the Pittsburgh Steelers started their offseason spending frenzy, the team was sitting on around $40 million in salary cap space for the 2027 offseason. So despite some huge contracts on the books, the team was looking fairly solid heading into the 2026 season. Then the Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington contracts came and everything changed. According to Over the Cap, the Steelers now only have around $5.5 million in cap space, without taking into consideration any of the pending free agents. The list of 2027 free agents includes offensive lineman Spencer Anderson, linebacker Patrick Queen, cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and safety Jaquan Brisker. Many beat writers and pundits believe the Steelers will go ahead and extend Porter Jr. this offseason which would likely drain what is left of this year's cap if they adjust the 2026 money at all but would almost certainly but the team well into the negative for the 2027 offseason. This is new territory for Pittsburgh under General Manager Omar Khan. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, including any offseason moves, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Huge contracts wreck Steelers future free agent plans0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

He is the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals’ Top-150 Rankings. The 6-foot-6 rising senior took an official visit to the Wildcats over the weekend where he pledged to Mark Pope and the coaching staff.“I chose Kentucky because of Coach Pope and Coach Mo Williams,” he said. “They showed me a vision and a plan for me to reach my ultimate dreams and goals. They will challenge me to be the best I can be on and off the court.”Hampton believe his game will improve at Kentucky and assistant coach Mo Williams made all the difference in his recruitment. “The development piece was key. Let’s dive in and discuss.AttackLet’s start up front. There are some obvious options. Christian Pulisic has been the face of this team for a generation. He, Tim Weah, and Haji Wright are the only players on the roster to have actually scored at a World Cup before. Pulisic (and maybe Balogun) are the most likely players to score goals, and goals win games. Beyond that, Pulisic’s demeanor can be up and down at times. When he’s thriving, the team level goes up a notch. When things aren’t good for him, it affects other guys as well. Striker may be the area the USA has improved the most since the 2022 World Cup, and Folarin Balogun’s decision to play in red, white, and blue is a big reason why. The 2022 strikers were Josh Sargent, Haji Wright, and Jesús Ferreira. Now, that’s also because Gregg Berhalter decided to leave Ricardo Pepi at home, but we don’t have to go there right now. Balogun is a natural goalscorer and a striker the US hasn’t seen the likes of for years. His importance is obvious.Ricardo Pepi may not be the first-choice striker on this roster – or he may be! It’s hard to tell sometimes. Even if he’s coming off the bench, or splitting starts with Balogun, Pepi has emerged as a definitive presence at PSV, and he’s been great for the US for years. Check out his playmaking ability in that perfectly-weighted assist to Pulisic:MidfieldHere comes the obvious one: Tyler Adams. Maybe because we just don’t have a like-for-like replacement for him, especially with Johnny Cardoso out injured. Also, because Mauricio Pochettino chose to leave Tanner Tessmann, Yunus Musah, and other holding midfield options at home in favor of one Cristian Roldan. Especially because of Tyler’s injury history. We know that players like Weston McKennie can move back into that holding role and do a job when needed, but that’s not Weston’s best use, and moving him back there weakens us in the attacking phase. Tyler’s injury history could make him the most important player on this team for the wrong reasons. Let’s hope he’s 100% fit throughout the tournament and that he proves to be the most important player for all his strong performances instead.Weston McKennie comes into camp as maybe the best US club player right now, with his outstanding performances for Juventus this season. His positional flexibility can sometimes mask his technical ability and just what a special player he is. Hopefully Adams will stay healthy so that we get to see Wes in more of that box-to-box “8” or attacking “10” role. He could be the difference-maker this team needs.Malik Tillman is a special player in the final third. His ability to combine with guys like Pulisic and Balogun, and create scoring chances for them, could make a huge difference for this team. The 2022 “MMA” midfield of McKennie, Musah, and Adams was excellent, but one thing it lacked was creative ability in the attacking phase. Tillman can deliver that. If he does, his importance is sky-high. Oh, Gio Reyna. Sometimes it feels like he’s taunting us by showing flashes of his peak ability, while not displaying it at a consistent level (at least, not for club). We don’t know yet what role Gio is going to have on this team in 2026. We just know it’s dangerous not to include him on this list.DefenseA year or two ago, Antonee Robinson was competing with Christian Pulisic, and perhaps had even displaced Pulisic, as the USMNT player with the best performances at club level. There have been some injuries along the way, and while Jedi is still a critical piece of this team (the dropoff from him to Arfsten is no joke), he may not be at quite the same level. Let’s hope he is. When he’s at his best, he is a stalwart piece of this squad.Sergiño Dest is so special. A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine said to me that Dest had been left off the US World Cup roster (this was before the roster was public). Imagining what this team would be like without Dest was painful. Alex Freeman’s emergence on the right side is a welcome blessing, but Dest remains unique in his ability to receive the ball in the defensive third, shimmy past defenders, and get us into the final third quickly with an attacking chance. Moving him forward into more of a right midfield role with three at the back gives him an even greater chance to exhibit his attacking abilities, and we saw that against Senegal a few days ago.I don’t have videos featured here for defenders Chris Richards and Tim Ream. They don’t score as often as the others. No big deal. They’re both important. Richards, like Adams, may have his importance be seen and felt because of injury. We will have to hope that he is able to perform at 100% for as much of the tournament as possible. The dropoff after him is significant. That dropoff is where Tim Ream comes into the story. Rolling into the 2022 World Cup, 35-year-old Tim Ream was having an unbelievable renaissance, putting in performance after performance for Fulham in the Premier League. His rise was so dramatic that Gregg Berhalter made him a starter at the World Cup despite the fact that Ream wasn’t even called up for the international window prior. Remember Aaron Long and Walker Zimmerman being asked to play out of the back that window? That distribution is what Ream is capable of doing so well — and it’s that ability (and his experience) that has kept him as a mainstay on this team, despite being 38 now, despite swapping the Premier League for MLS, and despite his athletic ability being on a downward trajectory (at least compared to all the unbelievable young athletes he will need to defend at the World Cup). If Ream is able to roll back the years and reach his past heights, we may not think of him as very important to this team; he may go unnoticed. If his age and his slower first step become problems, he could be important indeed.Matt Turner put in a good enough performance at Qatar in 2022 and gained some honor for his name. In the years since then, it would be natural to hope that he would be ascendant, or that another American would have surpassed him in goal. That did seem to happen — Matt Freese has earned a number of starts for this team, and seemed the clear first-choice even recently (maybe now too?) — but it’s not certain. There seems to be a fairly significant gap between Turner’s floor and his ceiling. He’s capable of some ugly gaffes, and capable of an 11-save performance vs Brazil (below). I chose not to include Freese on this list because Freese seems steadier, with a smaller gap from floor to ceiling. Perhaps this tournament will change that. Hopefully, if it does, it’s in a good way.Who do you think will be the most important US player at the World Cup? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSørloth agrees personal terms with Juve as Atlético exit nears - reportMADRID, SPAIN - MAY 17: Alexander Sorloth of Atletico de Madrid looks on during the Spanish League, LaLiga EA Sports, football match played between Atletico de Madrid and Girona FC at Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium on May 17, 2026, in Madrid, Spain. (Photo By Oscar J. Barroso/Europa Press via Getty Images) | Europa Press via Getty Images Alexander Sørloth has reached an agreement on personal terms with Italian giants Juventus, as the Norway international’s departure from Atlético de Madrid gets closer in the days before the FIFA World Cup.Matteo Moretto on Sunday reported that Juve and Atlético are now in contact over Sørloth, who scored 20 goals this season but struggled again to nail down a spot in Diego Simeone’s preferred 11. “Sørloth wants to be central to the project, and Juventus currently is guaranteeing him everything,” Moretto said on his YouTube channel.Accordo tra la Juventus e Alexander Sørloth sui termini contrattuali. Trattativa in corso tra il club italiano e l’Atletico Madrid alla ricerca di un’intesa. Le ultime su Youtube: https://t.co/JgIYnqqYGUpic.twitter.com/8Ugyql3BLo— Matteo Moretto (@MatteMoretto) June 7, 2026Juventus have been in contact with Sørloth’s agents all week, and the bianconeri have reportedly offered him a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season. Juve are losing Dušan Vlahović following the expiration of his contract, and manager Luciano Spalletti has approved of Sørloth’s arrival as a replacement strategy.Selling Sørloth to Juventus specifically appeals to Atleti because the club is negotiating in parallel to sign Nico Gonzalez on a permanent deal. Diego Simeone wants to keep Nico in his squad next season, and Atlético could sign the versatile Argentine for a fixed fee of around €23 million, plus €5 million in bonuses. Sørloth would cost Juve in the region of €30 million.(In yet another negotiation, Juventus explored a deal to sign Jan Oblak, but the player’s salary in excess of €10 million net proved the stumbliest of stumbling blocks.)It’s been clear for months that Sørloth’s future lies away from Atlético, and the well-traveled forward is poised to play in Italy for the first time after spells in Spain, Germany, Turkey, Belgium, England, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. Though he has been Atleti’s top scorer (or joint-top scorer) in consecutive seasons since his 2024 transfer from Villarreal, Sørloth’s penchant for inconsistency and seeming incompatibility with Julián Alvarez meant starts in big games were rare for the 30-year-old.Sørloth started exactly half of his 70 league appearances for Atlético, and he scored 44 goals across 107 appearances in all competitions. It’s no small thing for Simeone to lose those goals, even as many of them came from the bench. With Sørloth’s departure for Turin apparently on track, Mateu Alemany will need to sign a new goal source that is compatible with Alvarez, can stretch defenses vertically and provide his own goal source.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTeamwork makes the dream work, 10 All-Ohio relays on Day 3 of stateCOLUMBUS — A quick glance at the heat sheets for the relay finals Saturday night looked more like the Richland County Invitational than the Division III Jesse Owens State Track and Field Championships.Only the 4x200 and 4x400 for the boys didn't feature an area team. Across the other four, 10 teams were in action."I think having familiarity when you're running is always a good thing," Clear Fork senior Devyn Oswalt said. "Going into this with teams you've never seen before, it's hard to judge how fast they are. Seed times are one thing, but if numbers were how you did track, then nobody would run, it would just be seed times."Having that familiarity helped a lot, and obviously we were pushing each other. The MOAC as a whole is pretty friendly ... being able to run with Shelby and Ontario, being able to talk to these guys throughout the season, it's just really good competition."The boys 4x100 featured all three rivals from the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference with the Whippets running the fastest time (41.30) in Ohio across all divisions for a state title; the Colts were third with a 42.03 and the Warriors were fifth at 42.09."We've pushed each other all season," Ontario junior Jermel Powell said. "I'm just proud of everybody in the conference representing. It's amazing to see all three of us here."Thanks to a weather delay lasting from 4:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the relay initially slated for 6:42 p.m. started almost three hours later."It was definitely unexpected," Ontario junior Elton Toska said. "But it was great conditions and a very memorable moment. Getting to state, it's all our first time being here, we couldn't ask for a better time or better experience.""The environment is like it's Friday Night Lights," Clear Fork junior Davis Hoeflich added. For the Colts, the delay might've been a blessing in disguise. It led to the Division III finals moving to a rolling schedule with virtually no downtime between events."I think the delay was perfect for us, this was our only event today so we were all ready for it," junior Marcus Hoeflich said. "Having the rolling schedule, we were ready to go and maybe other teams weren't."Add on coming into the race with somewhat of a chip on their shoulder and it's easy to see why the Colts ran their fastest time of the season."Coming in today seeded ninth is not the best feeling, but we know what we can do," junior Nash Evans said. "We know we were seeded second before we got here ... we're a fast team."Fast they were, just like Glenville in fourth and Ontario in fifth. The three teams were separated by a mere six-hundredths of a second."We're proud of how come how far we've come, we've really improved since the beginning of the year," Ontario freshman Trevor Breitinger said. "We're proud of our time, we don't mind about our place because we have next year, everyone is back. We're just happy to be in this moment and experience this."Girls relays bring home multiple All-Ohio medalsEarlier in the night it was Ontario and Clear Fork duking it out in the 4x200 relay. The Warriors quartet of freshman Mia Moton, seniors Tessa Crum and Sasha Bulakovski, and junior Audrey Mahon placed third with a 1:42.05 one year after finishing as runner-up.“It is so bittersweet knowing it is my last race with Tessa and Sasha,” Mahon said. “I was in Mia’s spot when I was a freshman and they took me under their wings. I am proud to anchor this race for them, I love the pressure.”Moton is the newcomer to the group and excelled in her freshman season. She got better as the season unfolded and leaned heavily on her teammates.“I learned a lot from these girls,” Moton said. “They taught me how to stay calm and focused which really helped me this year. They told me to not even worry about the crowd here and just think about what I needed to do on the backstretch. That helped so much in this race.”Crum was pleasantly surprised by Moton this season.“It means a lot to have Mia come in as a freshman and show just how good she is and will be in the future,” Crum said. “She is going to be very exciting to see what she does in the future. I am sad it’s my last 4x200, so it’s a bittersweet feeling.”The Warriors weren’t ready for their time together to come to an end so they weren’t all that broken hearted when severe weather caused the state meet to go into a delay. They ended up running their race under the lights making it that much more special.“It gave us more time to get used to the state meet atmosphere and to understand how to run in the dark,” Bulakovski said. “We have never run in the dark here, so it was new for all of us and we adapted well. We spent more time together and I am thankful for that because we aren’t ready for it all to be over.”The Colts foursome of Katie Beck, Asia Bechtel, Taylor Richmond and Taylor Bly finished fifth with a 1:42.80 as just three-quarters of a second separated third and fifth."The delay really set us back a little bit because it was kind of random and it was a lot on our bodies just walking around everywhere and having to go back inside," Beck said. "But once we were on the track, we all just came together, our mindsets were back to where we're supposed to be."And once they saw the Warriors lined up right next to them, some of the nerves faded."It helps us get like prepared for coming to a bigger stage," Richmond said. "And we've known them for a while, it helps calm things down because we know people who are racing against us."In the 4x100 it was Shelby and Lexington in a Richland County rivalry clash. And though it was the Whippets coming out on top with a state title running a 47.76, Lady Lex found their way to the podium placing fifth (49.45)."This being my first true year doing track, I was very nervous," senior Tatum Stover said. "But I knew that we knew what we were doing going in ... starting off was very nerve-wracking, but I have faith in them and I knew that we were gonna perform well."Believing in each other was key in what wasn't a perfect race for the Minutemen."Some of our handoffs were a little bit like on edge, we were trying to fix them up a little bit today," freshman Olivia Thomas said. "But I'm still really happy with how we placed overall. We put a lot of work in with this team, so I'm really happy with how we did."Thriller in the girls nightcapThe girls 4x400 saw Ontario, Clear Fork, and Lexington clash for the final this this season and they all left it on the track.Ontario successfully defended its state title by just shy of two seconds ahead of the Colts (3:55.05) in second. The same lineup — swap junior Quinn Stover for Richmond — that reached the podium earlier in the 4x200 did the same in the 4x400."We were pretty happy with how we did ... we worked well together," Stover said. "We've definitely had some great competition this year. It has been very competive and I think our team did a great job staying with everybody and keeping that competitiveness up."Lexington was seventh after running a marginally slower time than in preliminaries, but still ended the season squeezing freshmen Mia Twedt and Olivia Thomas, with junior Sylvia Secrist and senior Allison Laury on the podium square."I was really happy," Twedt said. "I was going into it with an open mind just wanting to do the best I can. This is my first state meet, and I just wanted to do what I could, I'm very happy with the results."She also placed third in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:12.87, a drop of more than two seconds. And this all came after navigating a delay."You just have to stay in the zone," Twedt said. "Everyone's in the same conditions ... it's just a mental (battle), where your headspace is. You have to be ready and be prepared, you can't blame it on the delay."You just have to be ready to get out there."zholden@gannett.com | 419-617-6018 | Twitter/X: @Zachary_HoldenThis article originally appeared on Mansfield News Journal: Richland County relays fill up spots on the podium on Day 3 of state0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMQueer author pens touching ode to chosen family: “They see who I am”Acclaimed queer author Kristen Arnett recently shared the moving story of her queer Florida wedding, during which she was surrounded by chosen family after a decade of estrangement from her biological one. In an excerpt from the anthology Living, Together published in Oprah Daily, the With Teeth and Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One author opened up about being raised Southern Baptist, evangelical, and how that led her entire extended family to reject her for being gay. Related Episcopalians in the South just got their first out lesbian bishop “I receive occasional texts from these people,” she wrote, “which I do not answer… These family members are attempting to contact a person who does not exist… This version of Kristen is the memory of a child who wasn’t gay. Who hadn’t yet communicated her opinions. Who hadn’t opened her mouth and suddenly turned into a stranger. Who didn’t make a fuss about her political beliefs. It’s a version of myself who sat in a corner, quietly, and kept my lips zipped.” She emphasized, however, that she is far from alone. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “In the year of hurricanes and weddings, I married my wife,” she said. “A queer wedding in Florida is an event not unlike a hurricane; it’s something that can cause storm clouds to gather, boiling like lava on the horizon of a very red state. But we invited everyone we love. All of our friends—essentially, our shared family—are an extension of our community.” Arnett gushed that guests came from all over the country and even abroad. “We wanted to show them a version of our home that was different from what they’d come to expect about Orlando (theme parks and mouse ears). We wanted our friends to know that we live here too, and that means it’s a place specifically for gay people. If I live and love here, how can it not be?… Our wedding wasn’t just about celebrating the two of us. It was celebrating how queer people make Florida a better place.” Arnett did not invite her biological family to the wedding, even though they live in Florida. But she said she felt all the things one typically feels from parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles from her chosen family. “My chosen family is a group of individuals who continually give,” she wrote, “they see who I am and celebrate me for exactly that reason.” Arnett also spoke about living through Florida’s brutal hurricane season at the end of last year and how she was preparing to officiate her friends’ wedding while storms were decimating the community. “Storm after storm, these were the friends who’d helped us with pet care and shared their stash of wine and snacks when our hurricane supplies ran dry. They offered showers and bathrooms and cold water and phone chargers, and we’ve done the same when our household got power back, and others did not. They’d asked me to stand up with them. To be part of their vows and their love.” And so she did. “A wedding is a celebration of a couple in love, but it’s also a community offering up resources and reminding us that we don’t move through the world alone,” she reflected. She said she has learned to accept she may never reconcile with her biological family and that what matters is that she has “a community of people who care if I’m happy and supported. Who accept me not only for who I am but also for who I aspire to become. They see the promise inside of me. They trust and believe I can do more, be more. Help more.” Growing up in Florida, she added, was about “learning what kind of weather I could withstand.” And while it used to be “purely about survival,” she has seen the beauty on the other side. “Storms push through, smash things, destroy lives, and then miraculously depart,” she said. “You’re left with the aftermath, but there’s also the sun.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDeseret News archives: Utah Hockey Club found it tough to replicate the Golden Knights’ first season? In this Monday, May 28, 2018, file photo, fans gather outside T-Mobile Arena prior to Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights started as a lovable collection of “misfits” in their inaugural season, when they made an improbable run to the Stanley Cup Final. | John Locher Editor’s note: This story was originally published on June 7. 2024.A look back at local, national and world events through Deseret News archives. On June 7, 2018, the Washington Capitals claimed their first NHL title with a victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final in Las Vegas. Great news for Capitals fans, but the Golden Knights fans also enjoyed the thrill of a most successful inaugural season. And in 2023, the Golden Knights did win it all, becoming one of a handful of sports franchises to win a championship early in its history.Of note: The Golden Knights are also in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2026, in a tight battle with the Carolina Hurricanes.Winning the elusive titleAccording to research, about 90 of the approximately 125 top level sports teams — from the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL — have won titles. Fans of the other 35 franchises (sigh, Utah Jazz fans, sigh) continue to dream of the day.Per ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks won an NBA title three years after the team began play in 1968, while it took the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks four seasons to win a World Series in 2001. It took the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens just five seasons to win a Super Bowl (2002), and took the Edmonton Oilers five seasons to claim their first Stanley Cup trophy in 1984.The Ravens had moved from Cleveland, so the franchise was not a brand new organization, similar to how owner Ryan Smith’s NHL team is moving from Arizona to Utah.Update: Looking back on the Utah Hockey Club’s first season, there were plenty of great moments, despite the squad not making the playoffs. UHF finished 38-31(13) with 89 points, good for sixth in the Central Division. In this May 2, 2018, photo, people watch a second-round playoff series hockey game at a Vegas Golden Knights watch party outside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The expansion Golden Knights, Las Vegas' first major sports franchise, have taken the league and their hometown by storm in their first season. | John Locher Who knows when the now Utah Mammoth will taste postseason or Stanley Cup success, so here are some archived Deseret News stories about the Golden Knights’ first year:“Capitals face Golden Knights in improbable Stanley Cup Final”“Vegas Golden Knights make stop in Salt Lake City”“NHL expansion team gets a name: Vegas Golden Knights”“Photo gallery: LA Kings beat Las Vegas Golden Knights in Utah ‘Frozen Fury’ exhibition”Oh, and season tickets for the yet-to-be-named, but soon-to-be-revered Utah hockey team went on sale today.Hopefully on the way to the championship.By the way, when the Capitals defeated the Golden Knights for the Stanley Cup title in 2018, it was their first title in franchise history, which began play in 1974. Take heart, Jazz fans.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRemarkable Tongue is England's premier bowler - AgnewAfter all that happened during the Ashes, it was just so important England won this first Test against New Zealand - and that they won it emphatically. It was a very difficult pitch at Lord's but it is the same for both sides, and they came out on top.Speaking to both head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes, I think they felt enormous relief. It has been a difficult time for all of them after the Ashes. It is a long time sitting and thinking and brooding. So to come and win the first game and to do it in a good style, that was the most important thing for them. What did it tell us? Not a huge amount. We know Ollie Robinson is a really, really fine bowler. We've always known that. But there is a lot on his shoulders, a lot of talk about him and his fitness, attitude and all those things. He has had a lot thrown at him over the last two years, so there is a lot of pressure on him. McCullum said that he had mentioned he was more nervous than on his debut. To come and take three wickets in your first over back, it's a dream come true. He will have more challenging days but that is how he bowls and it is a sort of consistency that England missed in the Ashes from their opening attack.I like this seam bowling attack as a whole. It has got more control. Robinson and Gus Atkinson both had five-wicket hauls during the match and are very skilled operators.Josh Tongue is England's premier bowler at the moment, though. I've got no doubts about that. His development is remarkable. Where he releases the ball from is made for Lord's with the slope. It is a very high action and he can just get the occasional one to hold up at the Pavilion End, as he did to great effect. He is moving on from being more than just promising. He is becoming dependable now and England need to keep him fit.Lord's pitch does not benefit Test format - Stokes'Comebacks don't get much better' - first Test ratingsAs for the batting, England played the right sort of game here. If the Ashes had not have happened, they would have played more attackingly than they did.But because of the Ashes, they simply could not go out there and play Bazball and get rolled over. They just played really good cricket. What everybody has wanted from this team is to be adaptable and to be flexible and to not just play one-dimensional cricket, which is what they were doing. There are times you have to play a different way. They went down the route of the hard work, get in there and get over the line and that is absolutely the right way to do it.Whether that means there is a total reset, it is too early to tell but the reset is more about attitude as well.Emilio Gay coming out, getting runs and actually looking the part was another good sign.It is one Test match, very early days but he did not look fazed. Opening the batting is hard and he looked controlled.I like the way that he started to blossom a bit and you could see him gaining in confidence. He played some nice shots. To battle away and get fifty on that surface is a good effort.England begin Ashes rebuild with win over NZEngland beat Black Caps in bowler's paradise at Lord'sStokes runs the next thing England needStokes has had a pretty tough winter and, from my perspective, it is hard interviewing a losing captain all the time. But after this win, he was just really thoughtful. He spoke intelligently about Test cricket and the pitch. That was the pre-Ashes Stokes. Now you want him to get some runs because that is becoming a talking point.I hope the move to number seven works for him but he is not quite looking like the Stokes that walked out, bossed around, owned the crease and played the big shot.He does seem a bit more reserved with his batting at the moment. All he needs is a good innings. He just needs to get away, get a good score and he will be off again. That is probably the next thing that needs to be ticked off as far as this team is concerned, their captain back among the runs.New Zealand will be kicking themselves for four bad drops. In a low-scoring game, you cannot drop four catches like that. The rub of the green did not necessarily go their way with the technology either. But Tom Latham said they are not going to really take too much out of this match, they are just going to forget about it - that is probably the best thing from their perspective.Jonathan Agnew was speaking to BBC Sport's Sam DruryGet cricket news sent straight to your phone0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLord's pitch does not benefit Test format - StokesEngland captain Ben Stokes said the Lord's pitch on which his side won the first Test against New Zealand is not helpful for the future of the game's longest format. The home side began their post-Ashes rebuild by beating the Black Caps by 115 runs before lunch on the fourth day.On a surface that was incredibly difficult for batting, the match would have been concluded inside two days had it not been for bad weather. The 166 overs it took to complete the Test makes it the second-shortest to produce a positive result in the 150 matches held at Lord's, while it was the third-shortest at any ground when all 40 wickets have fallen."From someone who loves Test cricket, is that something that will benefit Test cricket? I don't think so," Stokes told BBC Test Match Special."But nobody's doing it on purpose. It's a tough job to be a groundsman."Remarkable Tongue is England's premier bowler - Agnew'Comebacks don't get much better' - first Test ratingsEngland begin Ashes rebuild with win over NZThe rapid nature of the first Test against New Zealand was in keeping with a recent trend of matches involving England. The first and fourth Ashes Tests in Australia were both completed inside two days."I get asked questions all the time about longevity of this format, people even talk about saving Test cricket, which for me is a bit far," said Stokes."The game is played over five days and without a little bit of weather this wouldn't have finished on day four. "For someone who believes Test cricket should be the best format and should never disappear, that's not ideal from that point of view."In damp conditions at Lord's, with the match often played under grey skies and floodlights, the ball moved sideways throughout. The challenge for batters was compounded by some alarming uneven bounce from early in the match. In England's second innings, both Jacob Bethell and Jamie Smith were bowled by deliveries that kept low.All 40 wickets in the match fell to seam bowlers - this was the first completed Test to be played in England since 1988 where neither side opted for a single delivery of spin bowling.Former England captain Michael Vaughan said he "felt sorry" for the batters involved, while BBC chief cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew said the pitch was "really poor".In response to the criticism of the pitch, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), owners of Lord's, admitted the surface had fallen short of expectations."We recognise that the pitch for this Test has shown more variable bounce than we would have wanted," said MCC chief executive and secretary Rob Lawson."We hold ourselves to the highest standards and are naturally frustrated when a surface falls short of those expectations."MCC invests significantly each year in the preparation of the main square at Lord's, as well as in research, technology and expertise aimed at producing pitches that provide a fair and consistent contest between bat and ball."The unusually hot and dry weather during May, followed by wetter conditions in the lead-up to the match, presented a number of challenges in preparing the pitch."Lord's regularly hosts two England men's Tests each summer and this year will stage its first women's Test, when England meet India. After holding the final of the World Test Championship last year, it will also host the final of the Women's T20 World Cup in July.In February, the MCC published its cricket strategy, when it stated the "square must be at the forefront of the club's priorities".The MCC has copied a technique of "steaming", which is used by the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the courts that host Wimbledon. It involves pumping "200 degrees of steam" seven inches into the turf. The club said the process will result in "positive improvements", but also admitted the need to re-lay the square. The MCC is also experimenting with drop-in pitches, which are heavily used in Australia. For England and Stokes, perhaps the manner of victory was not important following their 4-1 defeat on the Ashes tour of Australia. All of the skipper, coach Brendon McCullum and director of cricket Rob Key remained in their posts despite the heavy loss down under. And Stokes admitted he was aware the increased pressure the management may have come under had England been on the wrong end of another defeat."I'm not going to lie, I'm very, very happy that we've won this week," he said. "I knew how big this game was in terms of the result and how it was going to be perceived externally if it didn't go well."I won't be really happy until I get to share a beer with the boys."We've won the first game of the summer, it's great we've managed to do it, but we've got five more to go. We're one Test down, and there's a long way to go still."Get cricket news sent straight to your phone0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC teases new rankings system not based on 'opinion or popularity'A new system for the official UFC rankings is on the horizon.UFC CEO Dana White has teased an overhaul to the promotion's ranking system from several years. From using AI, to a system designed by Mark Zuckerberg and Meta, there have been a number of instances in which it seemed the long-used format to rank UFC athletes would go out the window.Nothing of significance has changed despite all the talk, but now it appears a real adjustment is coming, though the details are still scarce.UFC play-by-play announcer Brendan Fitzgerald revealed during Saturday's UFC Fight Night 278 broadcast that new rankings are coming, and the key point of emphasis when describing it was that it will be entirely merit-based off in-cage performances, rather than any voters being able to sway the list because of personal bias, opinions based on fictional intangibles, or taking the name value of an athlete into account."For years, the top 15 in each division has shaped title shots, contender status and how fans debate the sport," Fitzgerald said. "A new UFC ranking system is currently being developed that will be based on measurable performance, not opinion, not popularity. By evaluating who you beat, strength of competition, activity and consistency. The system is being designed to reward performance and better reflect results inside the octagon."A new rankings system on the horizon? 👀[ #UFCVegas118 | 📺 @paramountplus ] pic.twitter.com/ubj6yke9GV— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) June 7, 2026Fitzgerald did not give any insight into the timeline for the new rankings, and the graphic on the broadcast only indicated it's "coming soon."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC teases new rankings system not based on 'opinion or popularity'0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIran’s World Cup squad lands in Mexico amid US visa rowIran’s World Cup squad has landed in Tijuana, Mexico ahead of the World Cup – amid a diplomatic row with cohosts United States, which is at war with Tehran and has refused visas for several members of the Iranian delegation. The squad touched down shortly after 5am (1200 GMT) in the Mexican city, across the border from San Diego in California, after an overnight flight from Turkiye, where they have been training for the past three weeks. The Iranian football federation negotiated at the last minute to move the team’s base camp from Arizona to Mexico, due in part to uncertainty over whether they would be granted visas to enter the US.The US awarded visas to all the players on Friday, just 10 days before their first match, but several members of the support squad were not given visas, including “key managerial and administrative members,” according to the federation. The dispute comes days before the tournament kicks off on Thursday, when Mexico play South Africa in Mexico City.Iran will be based in the city throughout the tournament, despite playing their entire group stage on the US West Coast. When they do play in the US, it will be the first World Cup to see a host nation receive the team of a country it is at war with.‘Hold the US accountable’Iran’s team spent nearly three weeks at a training camp in Antalya, using their time in Turkiye to apply for visas for the three host nations. On the eve of their departure for Mexico, the players received their US visas, Washington’s envoy to Turkiye, Tom Barrack, said on X late on Friday. But Iran’s embassy to Turkiye said 15 administrative and management staff had been denied visas.“You have now escalated the deliberate and discriminatory treatment against Iran’s national football team to its highest level,” the embassy posted on X on Saturday, calling for world football’s governing body FIFA “to hold the US accountable for violations of its rules”.Adding to the tensions, Iran’s ambassador to Mexico said on Saturday that the squad had been notified that under their visa conditions the team must enter and leave US soil on the same day as their matches.“We can enter in the morning and we must leave the same day,” Iran’s envoy Abolfazl Pasandideh told reporters. That appeared to contradict what the team’s spokesman Amir Mahdi Alavi told state TV earlier.“The visas issued for the national team are multiple-entry visas, and the national team will arrive at the match venue one day before the first game and, for the following games, two days prior to each match,” Alavi said.FIFA rules for World Cups stipulate that a team’s coach must give a news conference on the eve of the match at the venue where the game will be played.(Al Jazeera)‘Political interference’Iran’s Football Federation – whose chief Mehdi Taj was reportedly among those denied a visa – has described the decision as “political interference in sport in its worst form”.In response, a US administration official confirmed that “the visas necessary for Iran to compete in the World Cup, including for athletes and necessary support staff, have been issued.”Without directly addressing the matter of those whose visas were refused, the official added: “We will not allow the Iranian team to abuse this system to sneak terrorists into the United States under false pretences.”In April, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said any problem would not be with the Iranian players but “some of the other people (they) would want to bring with them,” suggesting some had ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is on the US blacklist of “terrorist” groups.Iran are in Group G and will play New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles on June 15 and 21, followed by Egypt in Seattle on June 26.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKimi Antonelli drives away from Lewis Hamilton to win the Monaco Grand PrixMONTE-CARLO, MONACO - JUNE 06: Pole position qualifier Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team with his Pirelli Pole Position award during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco at Circuit de Monaco on June 06, 2026 in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. (Photo by Rudy Carezzevoli/Getty Images) | Getty Images Last year, Formula 1 implemented a mandatory two-stop strategy for the Monaco Grand Prix, hoping to “improve the racing spectacle” at the sport’s marquee event. While that did not deliver the overtaking and strategy options that the sport hoped for, this year gave us a different means of achieving that goal.Penalties, safety cars, retirements, and more penalties. But when the dust settled, it was Kimi Antonelli at the front of the field yet again, taking his fifth consecutive Grand Prix win by holding off Lewis Hamilton after a standing restart with just a handful of laps remaining.A dizzying array of unexpected events, starting with Max Verstappen retiring almost immediately after the lights went out when his RB22 failed, turned what looked to be an easy drive to the checkered flag for Antonelli into a chaotic affair over the final 20 laps. Lance Stroll found the wall on Lap 60, bringing out the safety car and pulling the field closer to Antonelli at the front. And just as the race resumed Charles Leclerc, who was running in third, hit the wall right at the restart, bringing out a second safety car and ending his day with heartbreak at home yet again. But events were just getting started, as race officials then called for a red flag, due to the track surface breaking up at Turn 19. The field came down pit lane, and the latest restart in Monaco Grand Prix history awaited. If that was not enough, there were several penalties for the race stewards to sort through. Including an investigation for the drivers noted for speeding in pit lane, and whether some of those drivers who were given a five-second penalty for that infraction served those penalties properly. That included George Russell, who was noted for a five-second penalty for speeding in pit lane, and did not seem to serve that properly during the safety car brought out by Stroll’s incident. Russell was then given a drive-through penalty for failing to serve the initial penalty properly, ending any chance of a podium finish for the Mercedes driver. Isack Hadjar, who was sitting up in P3 during the red flag, was noted for a safety car infringement for failing to stay within ten car lengths of the car in front of him, and the young driver had a penalty investigation to sweat out as he waited for the restart. As did Lewis Hamilton, for the same potential infringement. When the restart was called for, the drivers sitting in P2 through P5 – Hamilton, Hadjar, Russell, and Pierre Gasly – were all either facing an investigation, or facing another penalty to serve. Russell was facing his drive-through penalty, while Gasly needed to serve a pair of five-second penalties for speeding in pit lane. Eventually, both Hamilton and Hadjar were cleared of those potential infractions before the restart. The next big question? How would the restart be handled? Would Rui Marque, F1’s Race Director, call for a rolling start or a standing start? The decision was fully within his discretion. Given the pristine conditions, Marque called for a standing start, putting Antonelli under pressure one more time to secure his first Monaco Grand Prix win. If there has been a weakness for Antonelli and Mercedes this season, it was at the start. A genuine battle off the line to win F1’s crown jewel was on tap, with Antonelli set to duel the seven-time Drivers’ Champion over the final few laps. The lights went out, and Antonelli did enough off the line to hold Hamilton at bay. Hadjar was slow off the line and dropped to fifth, with Russell and Gasly sliding ahead of him, but both Russell and Gasly had penalties to serve. Then there was another incident, as Nico Hulkenberg made contact with Carlos Sainz Jr. at the hairpin, dropping the Williams driver out of the points, and out of the race. Russell came in on Lap 73 to serve his drive-through penalty, which sent him tumbling down the pecking order. He rejoined the fight down in P14, his chances of a podium having vanished. At the front, Antonelli drove away from Hamilton, delivering the fastest lap of the race on Lap 76, building a five-second gap over Hamilton with just two laps remaining. Gasly was running in third, but still had ten seconds worth of penalties to serve, which would be added to his time after the checkered flag. And with Hadjar, facing yet another investigation for a potential red flag infringement that would be decided after the race, Oscar Piastri in P5 was in position for a podium finish of his own.But it was Antonelli’s day for sure, as he crossed the line ahead of Hamilton, who took his second consecutive P2 finish for Ferrari. Hadjar was promoted to P3 at the finish given Gasly’s penalty, followed by Piastri, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, Gasly, Alexander Albon, Hülkenberg, and Esteban Ocon. But Hülkenberg was given a ten-second penalty just after the checkered flag for the collision with Sainz, which promoted … Sergio Pérez into P10.At least for the moment, as Pérez was facing an investigation of his own for being outside of his starting box at the restart. If Pérez is given a penalty then it would be Fernando Alonso promoted to P10.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, the 2002-born winger could leave Atlético Madrid after just one season in Spain. The move is said to be tied to the Madrid club’s transfer market moves. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAngel Reese Selling Chicago Home For $1.45 Million Months After TradeReebokAngel Reese is waving goodbye to her massive Chicago abode! According to a new report, the former Chicago Sky star is planning to list her Windy City home for a whopping $1.45 million on Monday, June 8, 2026. The not-so-surprising move comes a little over a year after she purchased the home and just eight weeks after she was traded from the struggling WNBA team to the Atlanta Dream. Angel Reese Is Waving Goodbye To Her Chicago Abode As She Lists The Sprawling Property For $1.45 MillionMEGANBC 5 Chicago recently reported that Reese is planning to sell her home in Lemont, Illinois, for $1.45 million. The 3,600-square-foot property has five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The home, located at 12735 Caruso Court, has an open concept design with a chef’s kitchen, custom window treatments, updated lighting, an office, an entertainment room, a three-car garage, a lookout basement, and a fenced-in backyard. Reese purchased the home in April 2025 for $1.28 million, according to Redfin. Angel Reese Flexed The Purchase Of Her New Home On Social Media Last Yearthey said “she need to cover up” so i went cover on VOGUEthey said “she can’t afford her rent” so i went & bought a house thank yaaaa💋 https://t.co/scopjY7l59— Angel Reese (@Reese10Angel) April 15, 2025Reese opened up about purchasing her first home in April 2025 with a social media post. It came after much chatter about whether the LSU standout could afford her rent. In late 2024, Reese made headlines when she revealed that her $74,000 WNBA salary wasn’t enough to pay her bills. “I just hope y’all know,” she said during an Instagram Live video, “the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think it pays one of my bills. Literally.” Shortly after, Reese revealed that she was paying $8,000/month in rent, or about $96,000 per year, during her rookie season. “I’m living beyond my means!” she joked. Angel Reese Made Nearly $10 Million In 2025, Making Her The Highest-Paid Black Woman In Professional BasketballUNRIVALEDReese’s comments sparked a lot of chatter, with one person saying on Reddit, “Make better financial decisions then,” while another said, “OK, so why is she living in an $8,000/mo place?? Regardless of who you are, you still have to live within your means.” While some users took Reese’s comments literally, it’s clear that the WNBA superstar was being sarcastic, considering the 24-year-old made $9.4 million in 2025, making her the highest-paid Black woman in basketball, per The Blast. Over the years, Reese has signed endorsement deals with Victoria’s Secret, Cash App, Beats by Dre, and Reese’s. In addition, Reese has her own shoe line with Reebok and a podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” “That check that I do get [in the WNBA] is a bonus,” she said. “Being able to play for what, four to five months, and get $75,000 on top of the other endorsements that I’m doing, I think it’s a plus for me.” And don’t forget, after her rookie season, Reese signed a deal with Unrivaled Basketball and received $250,000 for the eight-week season. “Being able to be in Miami from January to March, not having to go overseas,” Reese said about her decision to play in the growing 3×3 league. “Nobody wants to go overseas. A lot of us never want to have to go overseas, but some people do have to go overseas unfortunately, so being able to make six figures within three months, being able to be housed in Miami, just being able to get better. … I’m excited for it.” Reese’s Move Is A Result Of Her Trade To The Atlanta DreamBesides all that, the biggest reason Reese is likely selling her property in Chicago is that she’ll be spending most of her time in Atlanta with the Dream. According to The Blast, Reese was traded in April 2026. Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca broke his silence on the matter, wishing Reese the best and explaining the why behind the trade. “This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties,” he said. “Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky. We are thankful for her many important contributions to this league and this game, and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond.” Reese Is Off To A Great Start With AtlantaView this post on InstagramA post shared by WNBA (@wnba)Reese has been off to a great start in Atlanta. Not only is the team 7-3 with the second-best record in the league right now, but she’s also set new records. Recently, Reese became the fastest player in league history to reach 900 rebounds and the fastest Atlanta Dream player to register 100 points and 100 rebounds (in 9 games). However, even with a decent 33-31 record, there is a clear issue plaguing the team right now. While the starting rotation is a little worrisome, there's a bigger issue that's come about regarding Ketel Marte and some within the D-Backs organization.According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, some within the Diamondbacks organization are frustrated with Marte this season, thanks in part to Marte taking days off.Ketel Marte frustrating some in D-Backs organization"Meanwhile, Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, who the D-Backs tried to trade during the winter, continues to frustrate segments of the organization by opting to take days off," Nightengale writes.Nightengale shared an example of this issue for the D-Backs with Marte involving Shohei Ohtani, "He sat last week when Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitched against the Diamondbacks, and then played the next day and hit a walk-off homer."This past offseason, there were plenty of trade rumors with Marte, but the Diamondbacks decided to hold onto him. There were plenty of interested teams, and it's not a surprise considering how good he is.Last season, there were also some internal issues between the Diamondbacks and Marte. After the All-Star break, Marte missed a few games after flying back to the Dominican Republic, which did not sit well with the team.MORE: Tarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyESPN shared some insight into last year's incident: "... but was 'frustrated' and 'in a bad spot' after he learned his residence in Scottsdale, Arizona, had been burglarized during the break, according to the interpreter."There were reported issues with Marte and the Diamondbacks clubhouse, and those issues seem to have come about once more this season. There's no telling how bad things actually are right now, and whether this frustration will lead to trade rumors starting back up this summer. But it's hard to ignore the bad vibes from this report, with Marte frustrating some within the D-Backs organization for what appears to be the second straight season.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy did F1 Monaco get red flagged? More on asphalt issues that caused crashesF1 Monaco was red-flagged with 10 laps remaining in the flagship race, leaving fans wondering what happened as every car had to return to pit lane.Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli was leading at the time of the break, which occurred just after separate crashes by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in the same spot on the course. Both cars appeared to pick up pieces of asphalt from that part of the track, on turn 19, reportedly necessitating remedial work to fix the track before the race could restart. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Fuel Mileage Could Decide Sunday’s NASCAR Race at MichiganMost of the attention entering Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 has centered on two championship contenders who won’t start where they qualified.Denny Hamlin won the pole but will drop to the rear after repairs following a practice incident. William Byron will also start at the back because of a mechanical issue discovered after qualifying. But while fans focus on who starts where, crew chiefs may be paying attention to something entirely different.Fuel mileage. At Michigan International Speedway, one of NASCAR’s fastest tracks, races often come down to more than raw speed. Long green-flag runs, limited caution periods, and high fuel consumption can quickly turn Sunday’s race into a strategy battle, forcing teams to make difficult decisions from the pit box.Several crew chiefs told NASCAR.com this week that fuel management could become one of the biggest storylines of the race.Crew Chiefs Expect Fuel Strategy To MatterBrian Wilson, crew chief for Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Team Penske Ford, said teams will be constantly evaluating how cautions impact their fuel windows throughout the afternoon.“I think there are certain things that you can do, setup-wise,” Wilson told NASCAR.com. “Obviously, you want to start full of fuel is the biggest thing — making sure that the driver understands ways that he can save fuel throughout the race.”Wilson believes the biggest strategic decisions may come when teams are forced to choose between track position and fuel conservation.“Some of the debate I think is going to come down to if you have early cautions, or cautions hit at the right point, do you want to wait on fuel? I think that’s probably the biggest question for a lot of guys.”Michigan’s wide racing surface allows multiple grooves and plenty of passing opportunities, but track position still matters. That leaves crew chiefs balancing aggressive strategy against the risk of running short when the race reaches its closing laps.“You know, typically you don’t have a lot of (pit) stops here,” Wilson said. “You try to stay out, hold on to the track position, maybe four stops on average, so a lot of times you’ll have to make sure you’re full or close to full, or get as much as you can in those situations to open up the playground.”A well-timed pit call can completely reshape the running order, especially if a caution falls at the right moment.Tire Questions Add Another VariableFuel won’t be the only concern.Goodyear brought a new right-side tire combination to Michigan this weekend, creating another layer of uncertainty for teams trying to prepare for Sunday’s race.Practice already produced several tire-related issues, including problems for Austin Cindric, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell.Travis Peterson, crew chief for Michael McDowell’s No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, said teams are still learning exactly how the tire will behave over a long run.“I mean, maybe a little bit more wear than we’ve had here in the past, but lap times are probably still a little flat,” Peterson said after qualifying. “I don’t know that we ran enough laps to fully see.”While Peterson doesn’t expect a dramatic difference in performance, the unknowns surrounding tire wear could influence how aggressively teams manage both fuel and track position. There is also added motivation for manufacturers. The annual Michigan Heritage Trophy goes to the winning manufacturer, creating another point of pride at a track located in the heart of the American auto industry.Toyota has won the last two Cup Series races at Michigan. Ford, meanwhile, is chasing its next milestone victory on home turf.“Obviously it’s in their backyard. They don’t have to put pressure on us,” Wilson said. “We want to have a very solid and strong race for Ford.”Michigan is known for speed, but speed isn’t always what wins races. If Sunday’s event turns into the kind of long green-flag battle many teams expect, the driver celebrating in Victory Lane may not be the one with the fastest car.He may simply be the one whose team stretched a tank of fuel a little farther than everyone else.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNew Wahine volleyball coach at work setting foundation for successWhen Joshua Walker accepted the offer to become Hawaii’s next women’s volleyball coach, he had to tell his wife by phone. She was already here.Walker, who began his first official day on the job Saturday recruiting in Arizona, spoke with local media via Zoom. The next time he sees his wife, Tehane, who played soccer for the Rainbow Wahine, and their five children, will be on Father’s Day, when he will fly to Oahu for the first time as the fourth Rainbow Wahine volleyball coach in program history after agreeing to a contract that will last through the 2030 season.“She’s kind of been working on the kids, saying, ‘hey, isn’t this great you get to go to the beach?’ ” Walker said Saturday. “She’s going to be working on them for a while, but it’s just one of those things where it’s, oh my goodness, it’s actually happening, you’re going to be the next head coach and I’m like, it still hasn’t hit me.”UH announced Friday morning that Walker would replace Robyn Ah Mow, who stepped down in late-April after nine years, citing her desire to spend more time with her family.Walker said he’s already spoke with the team and will turn his focus to putting together a staff, hopefully by June 15, when he can start recruiting high school players from the class of 2028.He expects to complete the move from Waco, Texas, after four seasons with Baylor’s women’s program by mid-July, with time left to prepare for the start of fall camp ahead of the season opener at the end of August.“A lot of things to implement on the day-to-day to make sure that I think we’re building as a team going forward,” Walker said. “I will also take some time this upcoming week to touch bases with all of the athletes individually and try to get to know them better.”After working seven years as an assistant coach for the Hawaii men’s program and then four years as an assistant and then associate head coach at Baylor, Walker takes over a Hawaii program that is coming off its first losing season in program history.Hawaii failed to qualify for the six-team Big West Conference tournament after winning the previous five conference championships.UH will officially move into the Mountain West Conference later this summer to begin a new era of volleyball.“I would say success this year would be the Wahine setting a foundation for what’s going to happen moving forward and that they are able to find ways to win, whether it is on the scoreboard or just in life,” Walker said.During his playing days at UH, Walker was named a second-team AVCA All-American as a junior in his first year playing for Charlie Wade.Hawaii athletic director Matt Elliott said Friday that Wade was involved in the hiring process that eventually settled on Walker as the next Rainbow Wahine head coach.“I don’t know why, but Charlie has always kind of looked out for me,” Walker said. “I remember the first time we had a meeting and he was just talking about what he thought I could potentially be as a player and he challenged me to do well in school and then challenge myself to be a better volleyball player and I was able to do that. The part, just him helping me and telling me what I needed to do, was exactly what I needed to hear. I didn’t need a lot of motivation, I just needed kind of a clear path, and he has always been a clear-path, straightforward kind of person.”The core of the Rainbow Wahine team — including setter Adrianna Arquette, outside hitter Cha‘lei Reid, middle blocker Miliana Sylvester and libero Victoria Leyva — from last year is expected to return this season.Senior Tali Hakas, who played only three matches before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery, is also expected to return for UH.Most of the players aren’t currently in Hawaii for the summer, so Walker won’t really get to meet with them in person until fall camp starts up in early August.“Just trying to get things going without having the team together,” Walker said. “That will be a challenge. We know there are things we all want to accomplish and want to be good at this year.“The timing is what the timing is.”Walker said the schedule for this season is already mostly set by the previous staff, whom he plans to meet with in the coming days. While Hawaii hasn’t announced its schedule, other teams have, including Walker’s former school.Baylor lists itself as one of four teams, along with UH, San Diego and Georgia Southern, playing in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic on Aug. 28-30 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrandon Aiyuk calls 49ers scared, wears Commanders hat in IG postsWe haven’t heard much from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk amid his never-ending saga with the San Francisco 49ers, but that changed on Sunday.Aiyuk, who has been in a standoff with the team since he had his contract guarantees voided last year, put out a cryptic video on Instagram that we can only assume was directed at the 49ers.In the caption of the video, and in the video itself, he indirectly says the 49ers are “scared” to release him because they know he’ll succeed wherever he lands.“This kid, he got this one toy, but he don’t really know how to use it correctly,” Aiyuk said in the video. “So somebody else about to pick it up and play with it and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, this s*** litty.’ And they’re like ‘Wait, wait, wait, hold on, that’s my toy.'”MORE: Arrest warrant issued for Brandon Aiyuk in Santa Clara County“Man, stop running from the bill. The bill coming… The truth is, they scared,” he added.Brandon Aiyuk wears Commanders hatSep 29, 2024; Santa Clara, California, USA; San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (11) celebrates after a catch against the New England Patriots during the first quarter at Levi’s Stadium. Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn ImagesThis saga has been going on since last season, when the 49ers decided to void the guarantees in Brandon Aiyuk’s four-year, $120 million contract while he was rehabbing a torn ACL.ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported that Aiyuk did not meet the requirements of the deal, leading to the Niners taking that step.“I’ve been coaching over 20 years, and I’ve never been in a situation where a contract’s been voided,” Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “So it was extremely unusual to me… It takes a lot of things to get a contract voided.”MORE: 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is no longer tradableShanahan and general manager John Lynch revealed earlier this year that Aiyuk had stopped communicating with the team and showing up to the facility.“It’s confusing for all of us,” Shanahan said. “We still don’t understand it very well.”“I wish I knew,” Lynch said of the situation. “I can’t help you.”Why 49ers haven’t cut AiyukSep 28, 2025; Santa Clara, California, USA; San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch (left) talks with cornerback Eli Apple (right) before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Levi’s Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesGeneral manager John Lynch has made it clear that Aiyuk had played his last snap with the Niners and the expectation has been that San Francisco would cut the wideout.“It’s safe to say he’s played his last snap with the Niners,” Lynch said in January. However, that has not happened and instead the Niners have held on to AiyukThe goal in doing that is to trade him, with Shanahan stating the team is “in no rush” and is looking to get something for the veteran receiver.“I don’t have a date for it, but I know eventually it will resolve itself,” he said. “Hopefully — we can get something for him. I know we are in no rush to do that. You got to do what’s right for the Niners. You’re not trying to hook up any other team as fast as you possibly can. Hopefully we can get something for that and it will take care off itself I would think.” Why Commanders, Aiyuk are ideal matchDec 7, 2025; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) rushes the ball against the Minnesota Vikings during the first half at U.S. Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn ImagesAt this point, it feels inevitable that Aiyuk will be cut, and once that happens he’s almost certainly going to land with the Washington Commanders.Reports have suggested as much, and we know that Aiyuk has a strong connection to Jayden Daniels, his former college teammate. We also know Washington has a need at wide receiver, with the team lacking a true No. 2 opposite Terry McLaurin.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMets' Jorge Polanco shut down on rehab assignment after encountering setback with left ankleJorge Polanco’s first season with the New York Mets continues to be a difficult one. The veteran infielder had his minor-league rehab assignment shut down due to left ankle soreness and he will return to New York for further evaluation by team doctors, the Mets announced on Saturday.Polanco, who turns 33 in July, was six games into his rehab assignment, playing three games with Double-A Binghamton and three with Triple-A Syracuse. He played twice at first base, which is where the Mets intended for him to play after signing him to a two-year, $40 million contract. Until being shut down, Polanco was progressing well enough that the Mets thought he might be able to rejoin the team this weekend in San Diego. But with this latest setback, his return has become uncertain. “He felt something, he felt some discomfort while he was going through his running progression before the game,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Saturday. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentMendoza confirmed that Polanco’s discomfort was in his left Achilles tendon, which has been troubling him all season. Polanco went on the injured list in April with a right wrist contusion. However, he was hobbled by bursitis in his left Achilles that contributed to his slow start. No structural damage was seen in an MRI exam. Prior to going on the IL, Polanco had played in 14 of the Mets’ 20 games. In 61 plate appearances, he posted a slash line of .179/.246/.286 with three doubles, one home run and two RBI. Those numbers were far below what the Mets projected, based on the 26 homers, 30 doubles and 78 RBI he produced for the Seattle Mariners last season while batting .265/.326/.495 in 524 PAs.Mendoza told reporters that it was important for Polanco to get at-bats and defensive innings at first base before rejoining the Mets. Before the injury setback, he posted a .167/.412/.417 slash line in 17 PAs while playing eight innings in the field. As a team, Mets first basemen are last in the National League with a collective .220 batting average with a .652 OPS that ranks second-to-last. Mark Vientos (.214/.248/.370) and Brett Baty (.234/.300/.333) have gotten the majority of time at the position, while Jared Young (.288/.356/.519) has shown encouraging production.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMexicans chase a world record wave - but is the trend even Mexican? It's a tradition repeated in stadiums across the world, with crowds of spectators rising up in a rippling roar. The largest wave so far, according to Guinness World Records, was at a Nascar racing event in the American state of Tennessee in 2008, when 157,574 people joined a wave that swept around the stadium. Now, as part of the countdown to the World Cup, Mexico City is attempting to surpass that mark. The chosen location was not a stadium, but an urban setting ideal for spreading a visible, continuous wave: the emblematic Paseo de la Reforma, an iconic arterial road inspired by European boulevards. On Saturday, thousands gathered along the avenue and, after several practice runs, made their record attempt."Mexico, Mexico!" crowds shouted as they threw their arms in the air, many dressed in the bright green jersey of the Mexican national team. Guinness officials are now analysing the effort to determine whether a new world record has been set.Thousands of people lined a major street in Mexico City on Saturday [Reuters]The city is a fitting venue: it was here, 40 years ago, that this unique form of collective expression first captured global attention.Since then, the phenomenon has become closely associated with Mexico. But many believe George Henderson - or Krazy George - from the US deserves credit for initiating and directing the first ever wave, which is known as the Mexican wave outside North America. He believes this took place at a baseball game in California in 1981 between the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees.Krazy George believes the wave actually started in the US in 1981, and that he was a key part of it [Getty Images]"The Oakland A's had already lost two away games," he remembers. "In the third inning I thought about trying something no one had seen before. I found three sections and started explaining what I wanted."The first two attempts failed, but on the third try the wave went all the way around the stadium. And on the fourth, he managed to create a continuous wave."The place was going crazy," he says.Because the game was televised, fans of other sports adopted it.But it was at the Fifa World Cup in 1986 in Mexico that it was broadcast to an enormous global audience - and so became a global phenomenon. How many people does it take to kick off a wave? The Fifa World Cup in 1986 was where the Mexican wave became internationally famous - much like the Argentinian football team that won that year [Getty Images]Fifteen years later, the phenomenon caught the curiosity of a scientist from the statistical and biological physics group at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest."The reason we became interested in stadium waves is that, apparently, people very often behave like particles," physicist Illes Farkas told the NPR network.Together with two colleagues, Tamas Vicsek and Dirk Helbing, he set out to determine the rules that produce the wave. For their research, published in the journal Nature in 2002, the team discovered that a typical human wave travels clockwise and moves at a speed of about 12 metres - or 20 seats - per second.[Getty Images]How many people does it take to start a wave? In large stadiums, only 25 to 35 people. The mathematical model they built to explain this behaviour wasn't new; it was the same one used to describe the spread of a forest fire or the propagation of an electrical signal through heart tissue.A sign of passion or boredom? The wave may be universally considered a symbol of collective euphoria - but it can also represent a loss of interest on the part of spectators. It can suggest a demand for action from the players, and a way of getting something out of the match, Chris Hunt, the author of World Cup Stories, told the BBC."When a match drags and nothing interesting is happening on the pitch, fans feel it's a way to make the most of the money they paid for their tickets," he explained. If the match is a draw in the final minutes of a World Cup final, there will be no wave.If it's a friendly where the home team is winning emphatically, then there probably will be.[BBC]GUIDE: Everything you need to knowPLAN: How to follow the tournament on the BBCEXPLORE: All 48 squads confirmedDOWNLOAD: The World Cup 2026 wallchart0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

The players, coaches, supporters, staff and community at Wayne did some incredible things over my time.“In 29 years we averaged playing for a championship almost one of every four years. The long playoff runs and championship teams pale in comparison to the lasting relationships bonded in the struggle. These same people continue to amaze me being great husbands, fathers and the backbone of their communities. It is time for me to move on to different football opportunities and step back for a different view. Wayne High School on all levels is being left in honest, sincere and capable hands. To the young men who stuck together, bonded and caught lightning in a bottle for almost three decades, I am forever grateful. On Pioneers!”During Harmon’s illustrious career leading the Wayne football program, the Pioneers won West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) state titles in 2006, 2011 and 2012. Four other years, the Pioneers finished as a runner up in 2000, 2004, 2009 and 2013. The Pioneers’ football team was an annual participant in the WVSSAC state playoffs as the team reached the postseason 16 straight times from 1999 to 2014. Harmon compiled a overall record of 237-102 and arguably his most impressive feat as a head coach came during a 36-game winning streak that stretched from 2011 to 2013. Tying a West Virginia state record for consecutive wins, the Pioneers didn’t trail one single time during the 36 contests.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSixers target NCAA Champion in recent mock draftSixers target NCAA Champion in recent mock draft originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. With the NBA draft sitting a little over two weeks away, speculation about what different teams around the league are going to do with their picks is mounting, as is the case with the Philadelphia 76ers and the 22nd pick, which they acquired in the now-controversial Jared McCain trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder at the trade deadline.Philadelphia’s pick allows them to fix some issues that the team has, or add some needed depth at one of a few positions, with a recent mock draft showing that the Sixers do both. The Sixers add some front-court depth According to a recent mock draft by Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, Philadelphia will retain the 22nd pick, using it to select Morez Johnson Jr from the University of Michigan. Johnson just got done with his sophomore season in the collegiate scene, winning the National Championship with the Wolverines, and being a big part of their success. In his first season with Michigan, Johnson averaged 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per night, managing to be a defensive threat during March Madness, averaging a block per game during the winning run.Given his 6-foot, 9-inch frame, Johnson wouldn’t be the right profile to fill in the frontcourt for Joel Embiid, but he does have the weight to absorb blows from driving players. Playing small-ball centers isn’t exactly new for Philadelphia, with PJ Tucker having been an option during Doc Rivers’ tenure, and even Paul George spending minutes in the front court under Nick Nurse in some instances. The Sixers going with more wing depth has been a trend in recent mock drafts, with the likes of Koa Peat, Allen Graves, and Chris Cenac Jr. all tied to the 22nd pick. For now, what Philadelphia decides to do with its pick will remain the subject of speculation until the NBA Draft is underway, which is set for June 23.More Sixers news: 76ers reportedly hiring Mike Gansey to fill front office vacancySixers' Tyrese Maxey puts league on notice with recent postSixers' Tyrese Maxey named to All-NBA third teamSixers' executive catching interest from MavericksSixers linked to All-Big 12 wing in recent mock draft0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior

APNEWS.COMKimi Antonelli wins delayed Monaco Grand Prix to extend his victory streak and F1 leadItaly's Andrea Kimi Antonelli steers his Mercedes during the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix race at the Monaco racetrack, Sunday, June 7, 2026. (AP Photo/Philippe Magoni)2026-06-07T06:33:53Z MONACO (AP) — Kimi Antonelli’s rise to the top of Formula 1 continued in bizarre circumstances as the 19-year-old Mercedes driver won a much-delayed Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.Antonelli was on course for victory with 10 laps remaining when the race was red-flagged after parts of the asphalt broke away and two cars crashed in quick succession, one of them third-placed Charles Leclerc. After the race resumed from a standing start, Antonelli took his fifth Grand Prix win in a row and extended his already vast standings lead. He’s the youngest F1 winner in Monaco.“Thank you so much guys, the car was a beast today,” he told the Mercedes team.Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton crossed the line second and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly third. Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar was moved up to third due to a penalty for Gasly.Antonelli’s Mercedes teammate George Russell missed the points for the second race running after an engine failure while battling Antonelli for the lead of last month’s Canadian Grand Prix. The track damage put a decidedly un-glamorous twist on one of F1’s most prestigious races as drivers waited in the pit lane, officials gazed at the damaged asphalt and a road-sweeping machine inched along the circuit clearing away loose stones. There was more confusion as numerous drivers received time penalties or were under investigation, meaning the final standings remained uncertain. Read More Hadjar was facing an investigation after the race for a potential breach of red-flag rules. That raised the possibility that McLaren’s Oscar Piastri could be promoted from fifth on track to third Sunday evening, ahead of Hadjar and Gasly.Russell had been second in the standings before the race but ended the day in 13th after a hefty penalty for failing to serve an earlier penalty properly.___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 37 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Bizarre!’ Ashwin questions Gautam Gambhir-led management's handling of Kuldeep YadavFormer India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned the way Kuldeep Yadav has been managed in recent months, describing the left-arm wrist-spinner's situation as "bizarre" and contrasting it with the backing he received under the previous team management.Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Ashwin pointed to the difference in approach between the leadership group of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma and the current setup led by Gautam Gambhir. He argued that Kuldeep had thrived when he was given a consistent run in the side and had repeatedly delivered match-winning performances.During Dravid's tenure as head coach from November 2021 to June 2024, with Rohit leading the side across formats for much of that period, Kuldeep featured in six Tests, 38 ODIs and 17 T20Is. Since Gambhir's appointment, the spinner has played six Tests, 17 ODIs and 14 T20Is.Despite remaining in the mix across formats, Kuldeep has endured a frustrating period. He played just one match during India's triumphant 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, with Varun Chakaravarthy preferred ahead of him. More recently, he was left out of the squads for the upcoming T20I tours of England and Ireland, where Ravi Bishnoi was selected instead.“The way Kuldeep Yadav has been handled is bizarre," Ashwin said on ESPNcricinfo. “Kuldeep, when the last team management was around with Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, he was well backed, and everyone saw the proof in the pudding as he was delivering match-winning performances. But again in the last 18 months, Kuldeep finds himself with a lot of question marks."Ashwin acknowledged that Kuldeep's IPL 2026 campaign did little to strengthen his case. The spinner managed only 10 wickets and conceded runs at a career-worst economy rate of 10.30. However, he has retained his place in India's Test setup and was selected for the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan. The veteran spinner believes Kuldeep now needs to fully embrace the red-ball format and use Test cricket as a platform to cement his position.“Test cricket must now be his priority, and he must take it on," Ashwin said.Ashwin also weighed in on Ravi Bishnoi's return to the T20I squad. The leg-spinner had been part of India's plans before the 2026 T20 World Cup and featured in the series against New Zealand leading into the tournament. However, his recall has raised eyebrows given his own modest IPL campaign.Bishnoi played only nine matches for Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2026, taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 9.88 before eventually losing his place in the playing XI.Ashwin reflected on how quickly fortunes can change in international cricket. He recalled that Bishnoi himself was dropped in favour of Kuldeep in December 2023 despite being ranked as the world's No.1 T20I bowler at the time. Over the following year, Bishnoi gradually slipped down the pecking order as Varun Chakaravarthy's rise and Axar Patel's all-round value reshaped India's spin options.“So what goes around comes around. He didn’t have a great IPL, and on the back of not playing the back half of the IPL, he is back in the T20 setup. These are circular calls in many ways. But version 2.0 of Ravi Bishnoi needs to turn up because he misses his length way too much now than he must, and he must rediscover his mojo," said Ashwin.Ashwin's comments highlight the intense competition among India's spin bowlers, with Kuldeep and Bishnoi both finding themselves on opposite sides of selection calls at different stages of their careers. While Kuldeep looks to re-establish himself through Test cricket, Bishnoi now has another opportunity to prove his worth in the shortest format.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior
