SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat happened to Chris Bassitt? Why Orioles' $18.5M pitcher is headed to injured listWhat happened to Chris Bassitt? Why Orioles' $18.5M pitcher is headed to injured list originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Baltimore Orioles have seen their pitching staff put together one of the more disappointing campaigns of any group in Major League Baseball this season. They've severely underwhelmed compared to hope and expectation coming into the season, with Chris Bassitt being one of those disappointing pitchers. However, as the Orioles announced, Bassitt is headed to the injured list this season. The reason why the $18.5 million pitcher is hitting the IL is not good news. Why Chris Bassitt is landing on IL for Orioles"We have made the following roster moves: ...Placed RHP Chris Bassitt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 5... Low back discomfort," the Orioles announced. This is a tough blow for the already shaky Orioles rotation this season, as they're now losing one of their big offseason acquisitions this summer for a while.Back injuries are typically not good news, and Baltimore is now going to have to move forward without one of their more expensive veterans for some time this season. While this doesn't look like some season-ending issue, it's still a worrisome injury that's going to keep Bassitt out of games for a while this season.MORE: Yankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution While his 5.27 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) doesn't exactly instill confidence, losing another starter this season is not what the Orioles need right now.Dean Kramer, Zach Eflin, and Cade Povich are all on the injured list, and Trevor Rogers and Shane Baz are disappointing. Only Kyle Bradish and Brandon Young have impressed this season.Overall, this is a rotation that needs some help this season, and losing Bassitt, even though his struggles have made the rotation one of the worst in MLB, is a tough blow.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMPhillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWe know why Yankees actually won free agency with Cody Bellinger-Kyle Tucker decisionWe know why Yankees actually won free agency with Cody Bellinger-Kyle Tucker decision originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Yankees may have wanted Kyle Tucker this offseason. A lot of teams certainly did.Tucker ended up signing a big deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency, though, and that left the Yankees with a consolation prize.Cody Bellinger came to the Bronx instead, and that turned out to be exactly what the Yanks needed. In a new article on Monday, The Athletic's Chris Kirschner revisited the decision. He had advocated for Tucker in the offseason, and he admitted he was wrong.Bellinger simply has been awesome in 2026."The main thing I did not see coming with Bellinger this season is how dramatically he would improve his on-base skills," Kirschner writes. "Bellinger’s .373 on-base percentage is by far his best mark since his 2019 MVP season. His walk rate has exploded, and his swing decisions have dramatically improved because of it. Bellinger attributes that to feeling better mechanically than he has in years... His defense has also improved to a degree that I did not foresee. Bellinger finished with 7 DRS in left field last season. He’s already more than doubled that total this year. When the ball is hit his way, the Yankees can feel at ease that a play will likely be made."MORE: A 'gentlemanly' baserunning move confused the umpires, and everyone elseAs for Tucker? This whole season has been a bit of a struggle."Tucker’s contact quality metrics have decreased, and his defense has continued to decline," Kirschner writes. "His chase rate has jumped. He’s gone from an above-average hitter in barrel rate to one of the worst. Tucker was one of the most consistent offensive players in the sport, but he’s floundered with the Dodgers. He’s been pressing for results, and it’s resulted in his worst season since he was called up in 2018. It’s still too early to offer a definitive final verdict on either contract, but the returns so far clearly favor Bellinger."The Yankees signed Bellinger for an additional year and for much less money on an annual basis than Tucker got from the Dodgers. That, as much as anything, already makes this feel like a win.And if Bellinger simply keeps playing better than Tucker going forward, it's an even more massive victory for the Yankees.More MLB news:Bo Bichette reveals his plans for his opt-out clauseBumpus Jones is trending for an 1892 accomplishmentThe last time a team was this bad at walking, it took 9 balls to earn a walkOutfielder retires from baseball to go play college footballGuardians pitcher trying to complete incredible comeback0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBreaking: NFL Facing Serious New Backlash After Government Report Leaks (Look)While the NFL has acted like it’s untouchable for many years, the league is finally seeing some pushback from the court system. For years fans have been forced to pay for a numerous streaming subscriptions just to watch their favorite team. Now, it appears that this frustration has caught the attention of some people who can do something abou it. An explosive new report has exposed the league’s business practices and suggests that the NFL is “stretching the law” to squeeze every dollar from their fans. Here are the details. Also Read: 5 People Stabbed With Knife At Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Venue, Shocking Details RevealedFeb 13, 2023; Phoenix, AZ, USA; NFL commissioner Roger Goodell speaks during the Super Bowl 57 Winning Team Head Coach and MVP press conference at the Phoenix Convention Center. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsNFL faces serious backlash after government report leaksIn a scathing report released by the House Judiciary Committee and its chairman, Jim Jordan, on Monday, the NFL was criticized for disregarding the narrow guardrails established by the 1961 Sports Broadcasting Act and its antitrust exemption in pursuit of becoming a lucrative sports empire. The suit alleges that America’s most popular sports league has violated the law.In addition, consumers are limited in their choices and the prices for viewing games have been increased. This report, obtained by Fox News, contains the central argument that Congress created the Sports Broadcasting Act (SBA) to keep games widely available on free television and to assist a struggling league:The report, at its heart, zeroes in on the league’s Sunday Ticket offering. It highlights evidence from the ongoing Sunday Ticket antitrust case, including a 2024 jury verdict that found the NFL violated antitrust law and awarded more than $4.796 billion in damages to plaintiffs. That verdict was later vacated by a judge, wrongfully so, according to the report. The report also cites internal data suggesting most Sunday Ticket subscribers aren’t “avid fans who want every game,” but rather fans trying to watch one out-of-market team.”Page 18 of the report is especially troubling for the NFL relative to its decisions with The Sunday Ticket package. It outlines that:ESPN reportedly proposed a Sunday Ticket package priced around $70 per season.According to documents cited in the report, the NFL objected to the lower price point. The NFL also opposed a team-by-team purchase option that would have allowed fans to buy only their favorite team’s games. The report argues these decisions limited consumer choice and kept fans locked into a more expensive bundle. The Committee and Subcommittee have been examining the NFL’s conduct regarding its agreements with broadcast, cable, and streaming distribution channels and weighing how they fit within the narrow antitrust exemption provided by the SBA.The committee suggests that the NFL may be subject to continued legislative scrutiny, antitrust challenges, and pressure to change its marketing model. There is a suggestion that the NFL change its model prior to being forced to do so by courts or Congress. There has, of course, been a persistent pushback from the NFL against such narratives. It would be impossible for the NFL to sell its product to broadcasters and streaming services in one piece if Congress or a court at some point struck down or further limited the current antitrust exemption the league enjoys. In their latest round of contracts, the league was able to do that and that resulted in a deal worth approximately $110 billion.Related Reading:“This Is Huge” Packers’ Super Bowl Champ Has Son Playing In World Cup (Details)“Get This Bum Off My Team” 49ers’ WR Brandon Aiyuk Posts Video Attacking San Francisco (Watch)“This Isn’t AI” Adult Film Star Appears In EA College Football 27 (Photo)Raiders’ Quarterback Fernando Mendoza Announces Life Changing News (Breaking)“Put It In His Mouth And Ate It” Shocking Details Of Jonathon Cooper’s Arrest Released (Report)Bombshell: Video Of Hall Of Famer’s Private Jet Crashing With Multiple Deaths Reported ReleasdThe post Breaking: NFL Facing Serious New Backlash After Government Report Leaks (Look) appeared first on Gridiron Heroics.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSteven Wright: Softball: How Kenton Ridge completed its state title game comeback*SaveThe run to consecutive state championships for Kenton Ridge was completed Sunday, June 7, with its 7-6 win against Newark Licking Valley in the OHSAA Division IV state championship game.Kenton Ridge felt the hype all season, brushed it off as it came, and let its play on the field do the heavy lifting. It certainly was needed Sunday as the Cougars fell behind 6-0 in the third inning. KR kept swinging until its 64th straight victory was in sight and from there, the state’s top ranked team reached the finish line to conclude one of the state’s most historic seasons. Here’s some of what the players and coaches said talking about the win and the season. How the comeback happenedEvery comeback needs a starting point. Six-run plays don’t exist in softball. The lead has to be chipped at until it’s gone in order to win.Brenna Fyffe finished her high school career as the OHSAA career leader in RBI (231) and runs scored (215), and hit the second most home runs in a single season (24). Against Licking Valley, she uncharacteristically went 0-for-3.It was a walk, however, to lead off the third inning that got things started. Jayden Davis hit a double to the warning track, Ivee Rastatter knocked one over the fence, and KR cut its deficit in half just that quickly.“We came out and had four runs and started hitting better,” Cara Cammon said. “We were still down, but we had hit and we had taken the best pitcher out, one of the best pitchers in the state.“That’s also when we knew was when they took their pitcher out.”Three more hits in the inning completed that four-run frame for KR. Rastatter’s second homer in the fourth made it a one-run gameIt felt inevitable that six runs would not hold up for Licking Valley. Panthers head coach Rich Dennis expressed after the game he shared the same viewpoint with his team after its big inning. At the same time, Licking Valley did get to the total and Rastatter had to find something in the circle to keep the Panthers from adding on.KR head coach Sarah Schalnat said the home runs definitely helped, but she saw Rastatter’s demeanor coming back to the dugout played a bigger role.“[Ivee] came in after the next inning and she says, ‘We got you coach.’ That was huge,” Schalnat said. “I knew right then Ivee was in the ball game, which is going to continue to get everybody in the ball game. I knew she was going to pitch great the rest of the time and she did.”Rastatter said she spent time in the dugout working on her spin control as her teammates batted. She struck out three and didn’t allow a runner to reach until there were at least two outs in each of the last four innings.KR went down in order in the fifth for the only time in the game, but it set up the sixth to bring up the team’s two defacto leadoff hitters to start the frame. Chloe Glass and Lily Foulk both reached and set up the power of the lineup to have three chances at bringing them home.“I said it two days ago, this is [Chloe’s] ballpark. She’s able to produce, so there was no need to worry about sometimes a typical nine hitter, because she’s definitely not one of them and she does her job.Schalnat and her team has consistently verbalized confidence in their abilities to bat at each spot in the order. It was as stressful of a situation as the team had faced all this season this time knowing it could be their final chances at the plate in the season. And they delivered with confidence like they were already ahead. Like the way the scoring started for KR, Davis finished it by bringing both runners home on a base hit to right field and completing the comeback. Not losingRastatter’s pitching record is 61-0 in the circle in the first two years of her high school pitching career after the title win.She is one of 10 players on the roster to never have experienced a loss playing varsity softball in two seasons. She was asked to describe what losing feels like. Rastatter admitted she was mostly stumped at the thought.“We’ve been down in situations where we have been losing in the game,” she said. “What’s it like to lose? You just want to fight back, you know? Like, you have that feeling you want to fight back, and obviously we haven’t lost, but you know we have been losing and our team fights back really well.”Rastatter said she eventually thinks the win streak will end and with that, they must be prepared for that feeling by knowing they do fight back afterward. But what if they don’t lose?“Well, that’d be great. I mean, that’s the goal, trying to win every game. Yeah, that would be so cool.”The time togetherWith the lead acquired, Kenton Ridge was able to breath knowing they had overcome the deficit. However, they still had to get three outs in order to complete the championship run.Players were asked about their feelings running back onto the field in the seventh inning knowing how close they were to securing a second straight title. Rastatter and Davis similarly acknowledged Licking Valley bringing up the heart of its order, along with not believing those three outs were a given, kept the focus off potential celebration plans and onto treating it like the 188 other innings played to that point.“We talked all season about winning the inning, and so before they went out there, they got together. I had to wait for Ivee to come out to give her the ball,” Schalnat said. “That’s just what their mindset is to focus on what’s at hand, and that was just getting those three outs.”At the same time, four seniors ran onto the field for the final time in their high school careers. Cammon, Annie Fincham, Fyffe, and Kendall Massie played their final three outs with the Cougars. They did so as successfully as the last 64 games have been.“I just got, like, let’s call it my face tingles,” Fincham said as she began to shed tears. “Every out I was just excited because while my career was coming to an end, I was so happy that I got to do it with these girls.”Massie got two of the final three outs, making a runner catch in right center to start the inning and finishing the win with a charging catch toward the infield. After 115 wins in four seasons, they were finished on the field but could do nothing but celebrate with one another and have tears of happiness in the moment.Davis, a junior, couldn’t hold back her emotions as she thought about what it meant to have played with the entire team, her “best friends”, over the last three months together.“We just have such a bond, like a good bond, and we just don’t want to leave each other,” Cammon said. “Yeah, we’re winning state titles together, but at the same time, we’re not going to be the same team that we were last year.“I do think we’re just mourning not playing with each other anymore. And also are so happy that we got to go out with the state title again.”*Save0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTests show Neymar is progressing well, but return date unclearTests show Neymar is progressing well, but return date unclearNeymar underwent an MRI scan this Monday (8) in New Jersey to reassess the grade-two muscle injury in his right calf.According to an official CBF statement, the treatment is showing "good progress" within the expected parameters.Despite the optimism, there is still no exact timeline for when the number 10 will return to training with the ball. The forward was left out of the trip to Cleveland, where Brazil won the friendly against Egypt 2-1, so he could focus on his recovery.Last weekend, the treatment included the use of an anti-gravity treadmill, equipment that allows running and walking with reduced impact on the body. The injury has already ruled Neymar out of Brazil’s last two warm-up matches before the World Cup (against Panama and Egypt). The coaching staff is now racing to try to get him fit for Brazil’s big World Cup opener, scheduled for June 13 against Morocco.Injury historyThe physical issue began while Neymar was still playing for Santos, during a match against Coritiba (his last game before reporting to Carlo Ancelotti). At the time, Santos diagnosed the issue only as swelling.Club president Marcelo Teixeira even downplayed the case recently, saying the player would have been fit to play for Peixe. However, when he joined the national team on May 28, doctor Rodrigo Lasmar found a grade-two muscle tear, setting a recovery timeline of two to three weeks.CBF statement"Player Neymar underwent an MRI scan this Monday. The exam showed good progress in his treatment, within the expected parameters. He will continue the recovery process and physical preparation planned by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff."This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMichael Jordan 'deeply saddened' by death of former teammate Stacey King: 'We shared some special years together'Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan was “deeply saddened” to learn about the death of his former teammates Stacey King. In a statement Monday, Jordan paid tribute to King, who died at 59 over the weekend, the Bulls announced Sunday. Jordan’s full statement read: “I’m deeply saddened to learn of Stacey’s passing. We shared some special years together as teammates, and he was part of a group that helped define an era of Chicago Bulls basketball. My thoughts are with Stacey’s family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched.”King joined the Bulls just as the team was on the precipice of greatness. Jordan had already established himself as one of the game’s premier superstars, but was still searching for his first NBA championship.Enter King, was the team selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. King was mostly used as a reserve player as a rookie, though wound up leading the team in rebounds. King remained in a reserve role the next three seasons, where he helped the Bulls with three straight championships. King averaged nearly eight minutes per game in the playoffs in both the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons. He saw his playing time and scoring increase in the playoffs during the 1992-93 season, averaging 12.1 minutes and 4.1 points per game. During the 1993-94 NBA season, King was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Luc Longley and a draft pick. Because of that, King was not a member of the Bulls’ second three-peat, with Longley essentially taking King’s place. Following his NBA career, King eventually joined the Bulls as a team broadcaster. He became a beloved figure in Chicago for his enthusiasm and catchphrases while calling games. Since Jordan’s retirement from basketball, he’s made sporadic appearances with the Bulls. One of those came back in 2011, when the team celebrated the 20th anniversary of its 1991 championship. Both Jordan and King were in attendance for the celebration.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-Imagn ImagesFrom here on out, Watson and Doubs’ career trajectories are bound to be compared by fans and media alike, but there is a simple reason why the Packers chose to commit $110.5 million to Watson over the next four years, while shaking Doubs’ hand and wishing him well elsewhere.“If you’re asking whether I’d rather have Doubs at $17M per or Watson at $24M per,” Insider Mike Spofford writes for the team’s official website. “I’d take Watson in a heartbeat. The career yards per catch of 12.0 vs. 17.0 says a lot. I appreciate everything Doubs did in his four years here. He was productive and mostly reliable. But he doesn’t tilt the field. Watson does.”If nothing else, Watson is a field stretcher, and the kind of player who could be an ideal complement to former first-round pick Matthew Golden. After catching 133 passes for 2,264 yards with 20 touchdowns through his first four seasons, Green Bay is banking on Watson not just staying healthy, but leveling up in his ability to impact the outcome of games.Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (9) makes a 60-yard reception during the fourth quarter of their game Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Solider Field in Chicago, Illinois. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOnce on the thinnest of ice, Garcia blasted his way to the White HouseClearly, the UFC had high hopes for Chase Hooper.Sure, the Washington state product had yet to stamp himself as a future title contender; he entered his Oct. 29, 2022, fight against Albuquerque’s Steve Garcia with a 3-2 record in UFC competition. But, hey, the kid was only 23 and was coming off an impressive victory five months earlier.Garcia? Just as clearly, those high hopes weren’t there for him.At 30, having fought on local and regional cards and then in Bellator, he made his UFC debut in February 2020 as a late replacement. Thrown in against veteran Luis Peña, Garcia lost by lopsided unanimous decision. Then, after getting his first UFC win over Charlie Ontiveros (ground-and-pound, second round), he was knocked cold by China’s Hayisaer Maheshate (1 minute, 14 seconds of the first round, counter right hand) in Singapore. Thus, Garcia entered the Octagon that night against Hooper a decided underdog — and knowing a loss in the final fight of a four-fight contract could be his last in the UFC.“Yeah,” Garcia said in a recent Zoom interview. “It was do or die for me.”And now?Garcia’s victory over Hooper (left hook, punches on ground, first round, 1:32) was the first of the seven straight victories — six by knockout, producing $150,000 in Performance of the Night bonuses — that have earned him a spot on the UFC’s June 14 Freedom 250 card on the White House lawn. He’s matched against Brazil’s Diego Lopes. What a turnaround.“I believe that winners don’t quit on themselves,” Garcia (19-5) said of his journey from the floor in Singapore to the South Lawn of the White House. “… Knowing that you did everything that you possibly could to win a fight, I think that will go far.“I was on the brink of being cut. … I had to do something special, and now, here’s my opportunity.”Beyond the opportunity of fighting on arguably the highest-profile UFC card in the history of the organization is the chance to get closer, so much closer, to a shot at the UFC featherweight (145-pound) title.Lopes (27-8) is ranked the No. 2 challenger to the title held by Alexander Vokanovski. A victory at Freedom 250 would put Garcia on the doorstep of a title shot. The more violent the victory, the better.“I do think that if there’s no Alexander Volkanovski, (Lopes) would be the champion,” Garcia said. “So let’s go out there and beat the next-best guy, right?“I think, depending on how I beat Diego Lopes, that’s going to be a big signifier if I get the next title shot or not. Either way, I should be the next up. I believe that.”Garcia trains in Albuquerque at Jackson-Wink MMA Academy, the only gym to have two of its fighters on the White House card.Fast-rising heavyweight Josh Hokit (9-0), who’s scheduled to face veteran Derrick Lewis (29-13) at Freedom 250, is from Fresno, California, and is a relatively recent arrival at J-W.Garcia is a New Mexico native and Rio Rancho graduate who has trained at Jackson-Wink for “at least a decade, maybe a decade-and-a-half.”He paid tribute to teammates past and present who’ve helped him rise to the highest levels of his chosen sport.“I’m truly blessed,” Garcia said. “I’m blessed for the people who were actually there before I was, you know. Holly Holm, Michelle Waterson, Carlos Condit, Jon Jones, John Dodson, Diego Brandao, Diego Sanchez. … Just all those guys, man.“They really are a blueprint and a path on how to be successful in the sport. They took me under their wing when they didn’t have to and they looked out for our own.”One foundational member of Garcia’s Jackson-Wink team won’t be in his corner on June 14. Coach and J-W co-founder Greg Jackson has said that for personal reasons he will not travel to Washington D.C. for Garcia’s fight or for Hokit’s.“I’ve always wanted Greg Jackson in my corner,” Garcia said. “… He won’t be there for this one, but I’ve had so many fights without him, so it’s not that unusual.”Coach and co-founder Mike Winkeljohn will corner for Garcia at Freedom 250, as will veteran J-W coach Joey Villaseñor and Steve Garcia Sr., the man who got his son started in the sport.White House or no White House, title shot or no title shot, Garcia is keenly interested in adding to the seven-fight win streak that got him to this point.“Just perseverance, man, has been the key,” he said. “My faith, and just wanting to be best representation for my son. I want to provide for my family.“And, yeah, I’m feeling like I’m getting the support of my hometown. And now that I get this opportunity at the White House, I feel like I have America at my back.”As for Hooper, he’s doing fine: 16-5-1 overall, 8-5 UFC.But he’s not fighting at the White House.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFeyenoord eye Ligue 2 top scorer Tawfik BentayebFeyenoord eye Ligue 2 top scorer Tawfik BentayebFeyenoord are reportedly targeting US Touarga’s Tawfik Bentayeb (24) ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. In search of attacking reinforcements, the Dutch club are said to have already made contact with the Moroccan’s representatives. Further talks are even set to take place in the coming hours. On loan at ESTAC Troyes during the 2025-26 season, the striker enjoyed a standout campaign, even finishing as Ligue 2’s top scorer with 18 goals. These performances notably earned him a call-up to the national team, for whom he made his debut and scored his first goal last March.Valued at around €4 million by his club Touarga, Bentayeb is, unsurprisingly, in high demand. And whilst his name has already been linked with clubs in Germany, Greece and Spain, it is ultimately in the Netherlands that the Casablanca-born player could well continue his career.GFFN | Léo Aschi0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMatt Ponatoski’s future with Kentucky remains uncertain as MLB Draft approachesMoeller's Matt Ponatoski(10) reacts during their OHSAA Division I regional semifinal baseball game Tuesday, June 2, 2026. | Tony Tribble for The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images While most of Kentucky’s 2026 signees have arrived on campus for summer workouts, four-star quarterback Matt Ponatoski remains focused on finishing his high school baseball career with Moeller High School.Ponatoski and Moeller will face Perrysburg on Thursday in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I State Semifinals with a spot in the state championship game on the line. The Kentucky signee committed to play both football and baseball in July 2025 and signed with the Wildcats after Will Stein was hired as head coach. However, recent comments suggest professional baseball remains his preferred option.“I think people who don’t talk to me face to face might get an idea that I want to go play college football,” four-star quarterback signee Matt Ponatoski said in an appearance on Overslotbaseball.com podcast that published over the weekend. “I do, but that’s option 1B.“Option 1A is to go be a (MLB) draft pick and go get drafted and go be in an organization at 18 rather than go to college and be in an organization at 21, which is not a bad option either. I want to be drafted. That’s 1A for sure.”Ponatoski enters a crowded quarterback room if he arrives in Lexington. Kenny Minchey is expected to start and has two years of eligibility remaining, while Brennen Ward and JacQai Long are competing for backup reps. Kentucky also holds a commitment from 2027 four-star quarterback Jake Nawrot. The MLB Draft is set for July 11, making Ponatoski’s decision one of the biggest storylines surrounding Kentucky’s 2026 recruiting class.“I came on late with the recruiting with football,” Ponatoski said. “Now, I think it (was portrayed) that I want to be a football player.“Yes, that’s a great option if I don’t go to the draft, but I want to be a professional baseball player as fast as possible. That’s where my heart’s been, and it’s always been.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMNeo-Nazis tried to disrupt a Pride event. It didn’t go quite as planned.About 10 neo-Nazis wearing matching red and black outfits, sunglasses, and masks protested Athens Pridefest in Georgia last Saturday, while holding a black flag with a white swastika on it, delivering Nazi salutes, and reportedly shouting “Heil Hitler” along with racist and anti-gay slurs. Pride attendees booed them, recorded their activities, walked around them with a large banner to hide their hateful display, and yelled, “Show your face, you f***ing cowards,” The Advocate reported. The watchdog group StopAntisemitism identified the group as the Blood Tribe, a neo-Nazi group founded by Christopher Pohlhaus. While police and event organizers reported neither violence nor arrests, the group is just part of a rising wave of antisemitic and white supremacist groups that have increasingly protested LGBTQ+ events in the recent past. Related GOP advances bill that would allow Nazi flags while banning Pride flags In a statement, the Athens Pride and Queer Collective (which organized the Pridefest) said it “unequivocally condemns” the group, and added, “Their appearance was intended to intimidate, divide, and spread fear, but it failed to overshadow the overwhelming spirit of joy, solidarity, and love that defined our community celebration.” Pridefest included a parade, a daytime kids’ zone (with inflatable play areas, face-painting, and other art activities), a family-friendly musical showcase, a vendor fair, evening drag performances, and an after-party. Pohlhaus, the group’s founder, is a Marine Corps vet who led a similar protest against a drag queen story hour in Akron, Ohio, in mid-March of that year. Neo-Nazis and white supremacists have become a regular fixture at anti-LGBTQ+ protests. In September 2022, neo-Nazis joined Proud Boys in Pflugerville, Texas, to protest an all-ages drag brunch. In October 2022, organizers of an Orlando, Florida, Drag Queen Story Hour canceled their event after it was threatened by neo-Nazi hate groups. Police in Idaho arrested 31 members of the Texas-based white supremacist group Patriot Front on misdemeanor criminal conspiracy charges on June 11, 2022, after police stopped their U-Haul truck near a “Pride in the Park” event. Video shows police opening the U-Haul to reveal members packed inside. The groups contributed to a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ hate incidents in 2023 and also in 2022. Threats by extremists led the State Department to warn of terrorist attacks during Pride Month 2024. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a similar warning that year. Experts also note that these neo-Nazis and white supremacists are recruiting new members during their anti-LGBTQ+ protests. In June 2023, the Western States Center, an anti-bigotry organization, wrote a guide on “Protecting Pride,” explaining how to protect events from extremist hate. The guide recommends that event organizers create a vocally supportive coalition of partnerships with government, business, faith, and community organizations; coordinate with law enforcement to monitor and document online and local extremist threats; create safety response plans for coordinators and attendees to follow at events; and also teaches how to use media spokespeople to flip “groomer” claims by showing how extremists threaten local kids and families with violence and hate. WWW.404MEDIA.COThis Company Will Add Phone, AirPod, and Smartwatch Trackers to License Plate ReadersA surveillance company plans to add sensors to automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) that would mean the devices, as well as capture the license plate of passing vehicles, would also sweep up unique identifiers of mobile phones, wearables, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices in those cars, potentially letting law enforcement identify specific drivers or passengers. The technology, called SignalTrace, would turn ALPR cameras from devices focused on tracking cars to ones that can more readily track the location of particular people. ALPR cameras have become a commonly deployed technology all across the U.S.; SignalTrace would make some of those cameras capable of collecting much more data.💡Do you know anything else about SignalTrace? Do you work for Leonardo? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at joseph.404 or send me an email at joseph@404media.co.SignalTrace “bridges license plate recognition data with sensor-captured device identifiers—such as those from mobile phones, Bluetooth wearables, and vehicle systems—to create a unique, trackable ‘electronic fingerprint’ for investigative use,” according to a product sheet describing the tool, written by surveillance company Leonardo, which advertises SignalTrace. The sort of data Leonardo says SignalTrace can sweep up includes the RFID tags in key cards and pet microchips; devices with Bluetooth such as wireless headphones, fitness trackers, and mobile phones; components of a car like tire pressure sensors and infotainment systems; and Wi-Fi sources such as vehicle hotspots and laptops, according to the product sheet.Screenshots of the product sheet, available here. The idea is to correlate these unique device identifiers to a license plate. If a Leonardo camera detects a license plate and sees where a vehicle was at a specific time, it can then allegedly link those unique device identifiers to it.The sheet suggests SignalTrace collects this data for it to be searched by law enforcement much later. One line says SignalTrace “stores device and correlation data securely in the EOC [Enterprise Operations Center] for future queries and analysis.”“When multiple devices consistently move together with a vehicle, SignalTrace’s algorithms link them to that vehicle’s license plate and time-stamped location data. This correlation provides investigators with another layer of actionable intelligence, even if a suspect changes or removes a plate,” the sheet reads.Leonardo sells ALPR cameras and communications equipment to law enforcement, border security, and other government agencies. Its U.S. arm has contracts with U.S. Special Operations Command and the General Services Administration, according to procurement records maintained by the transparency website Widely Reported.404 Media has previously covered how other ALPR companies want to bridge the gap between vehicle and occupant. Flock, for example, has created a system called Nova, to supplement license plate data with other pieces of information. 404 Media revealed the company planned to use hacked data from previous data breaches to “jump from LPR to person.” Flock said it decided to not use hacked data in Nova after 404 Media’s coverage and internal pressure.Leonardo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 54 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMInter demand over €40 million to sell Yann Bisseck and why Bayern Munich move is possibleInter demand over €40 million to sell Yann Bisseck and why Bayern Munich move is possibleNewly crowned Serie A champions Inter can now consider Yann Bisseck’s sale, if the right approach is made. The defender had a pretty good 2025/26 campaign but this isn’t enough for him to stay.La Gazzetta dello Sportreport that Cristian Chivu highly values the German and ideally, he won’t want to lose him. But this won’t be enough. Inter would execute a sale if suitors offer over €40 million. Bayern Munich are firmly the favourite and Bisseck would be quite appealed by the deal.Last summer, Crystal Palace made a formal offer for him but it was rejected. One reason was financial but the Eagles now have to more than that to have a chance of signing him, with the money earned likely to be used to execute the deal for Marco Palestra.Player should consider stayingAs things stand, there is no real reason for Bisseck to leave Inter. He will become a much more important player next season due to the exits of Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi. The Nerazzurri will continue to compete for trophies and he will only grow in stature. It will allow him to play regularly for Germany too, which is probably the reason why he would want to move to Bayern. But they’re not the only team which can hand Bisseck what he wants.Kaustubh Pandey I GIFN0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEx-Red Sox All-Star Alex Bregman Says He's Been 'Terrible' With Cubs, 'God-Awful' In This AreaEx-Red Sox All-Star Alex Bregman Says He's Been 'Terrible' With Cubs, 'God-Awful' In This Area originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Alex Bregman signed a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs in January and was expected to serve as one of the key cogs in the North Siders' lineup this season. The former Boston Red Sox All-Star has struggled mightily in his first year with the Cubs, however.Bregman went 0-for-5 in Chicago's 2-1 loss vs. the San Francisco Giants on Sunday and issued a blunt assessment of his performance thus far with the Cubs."I’ve been terrible," the 32-year-old said, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. "I need to play better. Offensively, it’s been awful."Bregman recorded 18 home runs, 62 RBIs and a .273/.360/.462 triple slash across 495 plate appearances covering 114 games during his lone campaign in Boston. He enters Monday with five home runs, 19 RBIS and a .243/.327/.342 slash line in 297 plate appearances across 65 contests with Chicago."I’ve failed many times in this game," Bregman said, per Mooney. "I’ve struggled before. I’ve started slow before. And when you’re struggling, there’s only one way forward, and that’s straight, head on, through it. You get after it in your work. It comes down to executing in the game, and I haven’t executed all year. Runners in scoring position, I’ve been god-awful."The three-time All-Star is 13-for-73 with a .448 OPS with runners in scoring position in 2026 after going 28-for-108 with an .828 OPS during that situation with the Red Sox."I need to be better," Bregman said, according to Mooney's report. "If I’m better over the last however many games, we probably win the majority of them. I’ve had plenty of opportunities with guys in scoring position. I need to be better, plain and simple."More MLB: Former MLB All-Star Laments Current State Of Red Sox0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'What is our commitment to Test cricket?': Afghanistan coach raises question after India defeatAfghanistan head coach Richard Pybus admitted that his team's approach in the one-off Test against India showed signs of "naivety", saying the lack of exposure to red-ball cricket played a major role in their innings-and-300-run defeat in New Chandigarh. The match was Afghanistan's 12th Test in eight years, and Pybus said the team needed to reflect on its commitment to the longest format of the game."So, you know, there are some structural questions. I will have some feedback for the board when I go back. But also, it's like, you know, what is our commitment to Test cricket?," Pybus said after the match. The coach said long gaps between Test matches make it difficult for players to adapt to the demands of red-ball cricket."Having coached a lot of first-class cricket, it's a little bit like coming out of pre-season and then you've got to get into the rhythm of playing long-format cricket," Pybus said."So we were rusty, we showed our naivety and there's plenty of work to be done," he added.ALSO READ: Chosen one Manav Suthar gives India hope with dip, revs and perfect 'tappa'Pybus also pointed to the limited amount of first-class cricket available to Afghanistan's players and said domestic matches alone were not enough preparation for international Test cricket."You can play as much red-ball cricket at home domestically and, you know, there aren't that many first-class sides and it's not a long fixture list."The coach also acknowledged the impact of several of Afghanistan's leading white-ball players not participating in first-class cricket. Players such as Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad and Allah Ghazanfar do not play red-ball cricket regularly."A lot of white-ball stars who are genuine stars in world cricket, they are not playing first-class cricket and that sometimes would not help the younger guys in this way. Every side historically, as it evolves, needs fixtures to play," Pybus said. While the Afghanistan Cricket Board has restricted players to participating in a maximum of two T20 leagues, Pybus said financial realities also influence players' decisions."The board has given two leagues to every player, so they can go off. They've restricted the amount of leagues that can be played to protect the integrity of the domestic game. I don't think the board's in any situation, which any of the other boards are. There are economic decisions which players are going to make."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRob Gronkowski reacts to Josh McDaniels' comparison, A.J. Brown tradeNew England Patriots great Rob Gronkowski had much praise to give to A.J. Brown following the franchise’s decision to trade for the All-Pro wide receiver on June 1.On Monday’s episode of the “Up & Adams” show, Gronkowski addressed Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels comparing him to Brown by lauding Brown for his brilliant, physical style of play.“He’s a force to be reckoned with, and he’s a guy that takes attention from the defense even when the ball is not going to him,” Gronkowski said.Brown has been one of the best wide receivers in the NFL throughout his career, predicated in part on his ability to use his size to get physical with defenders while running routes and going up to make catches. He’s gone for 1,000 yards receiving six times in his seven-year career, and as recently as 2025, when he recorded 1,003 receiving yards.Though only a wide receiver who stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 226 pounds, Brown’s physicality is comparable to Gronkowski’s, and the way in which the latter was able to use his own physical advantages to fuel him to prolific seasons in his career.“There’s a force to the way he plays the game … Maybe the closest thing I’ve seen is Gronk. This is a big guy," McDaniels said on Brown, via ESPN's Mike Reiss.Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook. This article originally appeared on Patriots Wire: Rob Gronkowski reacts to Josh McDaniels' comparison, A.J. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed, white and hell yeah: How the American Outlaws became the heartbeat of U.S. SoccerCHARLOTTE, N.C. — Elvis Presley lives, and right now he’s talking to Wonder Woman and a bald eagle in a gravel parking lot in North Carolina. All around Elvis, hundreds of American soccer fans of all ages, demographics and blood alcohol levels are snacking on hot dogs. Over near one fence, a drum circle is warming up, rat-a-tat-tats filling the sunny afternoon air. Red, white and blue is everywhere, from innumerable Pulisic and McKinnie jerseys, to dyed beards and wigs, to a t-shirt that simply reads, “WTF IS A KILOMETER?”Welcome to the land of the American Outlaws. America is co-hosting this year’s World Cup, but the Outlaws are the ones who are bringing the party to every stadium, festival, bar and brewery they possibly can, from sea to shining sea. Much like the Avengers, the American Outlaws began with an idea — an idea for a place that American soccer fans, and would-be soccer-fans, could gather, a place where they could enjoy their love of the beautiful game, a place where they could say the word “soccer” and not be exiled, a place where they could navigate the intricacies of international football systems. That idea, born in a basement in Lincoln, Nebraska, now literally spans the entire country, with more than 30,000 Outlaws and 200 chapters dedicated to spreading the word and the love about American soccer. Look in the stands of any U.S. team match, men and women alike, and you’ll see them, standing, chanting, celebrating with constant exuberance. In a time of American division, they’re a symbol of unity, a celebration of all things red, white and blue, from the noble to the ridiculous. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournament“There’s no way everyone here voted the same way,” says Bryan Friers, one of hundreds of American Outlaws supporters in the Charlotte parking lot, “but we can all be here together today.” He’s standing with high school friend River Young amid a fantastic cross-section of American humanity, from families with young kids to bands of Gen Z soccer fanatics to boomers still wearing American-flag headbands. The camaraderie is instant, the joy is evident, and the Americana is everywhere, from overalls to capes to tattoos to wigs. Anthony Williamson, who regularly drums with the Orlando FC drum corps, is checking his equipment preparing to lead a pre-match hype circle. “This is the best,” he says as a chant leader who goes by the nom de soccer of “Ulysses S. Chant” begins teaching the assembled crowd the new chants of the day. In a few minutes, they’ll gather the Outlaws for a gloriously noisy march to the stadium. The American Outlaws party is just getting started today, but there’s always room for more. Chris Brady of the United States and the American outlaws during the international friendly match between United States and Senegal.John Dorton/USSF via Getty ImagesAmerican Outlaws: The origin of a movementThe Outlaws came to life in the early 2000s, when founders Korey Donahoo, Justin Brunken and Ben Cohoon bonded over their love of soccer, and their realization that America had no true supporters’ group to welcome and energize fans of national soccer. (The men’s national team itself was struggling through one of its many well-documented identity crises, so this was not exactly a shock.) The three friends adopted some iconic American imagery, a classic cowboy bandanna, and the Outlaws were born. The Outlaws debuted with that most American of traditions: a road trip. A busload of roughly 60 fans traveled from Nebraska to Chicago to watch the United States challenge Brazil in 2007. That kicked off a traveling party that now encompasses not just the game itself but a pregame gathering, a night-before party, and year-round friendship and camaraderie. Starting with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 installment in Brazil, where the Outlaws arrived en masse, the group has traveled in massive packs that make Steelers and Cowboys fans look like homebodies. The cost, both financially and logistically, is considerable, and the USMNT players have long supported their own supporters. “When the team comes over and claps and thanks our section at the end of a match, that's huge,” says American Outlaws operations manager Whitney Zaleski, “to see that they recognize what we're putting in and the energy that we're putting in.”Run almost entirely by volunteers, the American Outlaws are open to anyone with a love of soccer and a willingness to send in $30. The Outlaws now boast chapters from Anchorage to Miami, from Honolulu to Maine. Some chapters are massive and well-organized, others are small gatherings at a local watering hole, but all share a love of soccer in general and the United States teams in particular. It’s a love that’s taken on new resonance now that the World Cup is coming to American shores. “When we go to these World Cups, these nations, leagues, friendlies abroad, we're welcomed with open arms. The locals there are showing us a good time,” says D.C.-based American Outlaws member Donald Wine. “It’s our turn. … This World Cup is about showcasing our culture and we have this great opportunity to welcome fans from all around the country, that's what we feel our duty is. And we're ready to accept it.”In a very real sense, then, the Outlaws represent the United States, and it’s a responsibility the group takes seriously. In a sport where racist, homophobic chants and hooligan-style lawbreaking make headlines, the Outlaws strive to promote inclusivity, so much so that they have a specified Code of Conduct page on their site. “The American Outlaws will not tolerate any sort of hatred or attacks on other people for who they are, whether in the form of physical or verbal assault, clothing or signage,” the Outlaws’ conduct credo reads. “It is of the utmost importance that people can cheer, sing and exist as they are in our section, around the stadium, in chapter bars and anywhere in the world with comfort and free of threat.”The Outlaws are now large enough that they’ve built their own charitable arm, AO Impact. Focused on the number 11 — the number of players on the pitch — AO Impact asks for just $11, to start, to help spread the word of soccer to local communities across the country. AO Impact works with local nonprofits around the country to build and maintain soccer facilities with the goal of exposing kids to the beautiful game, with the hope and expectation that they’ll continue to love it when they grow up. It’s all part of the supporter-centric focus that the Outlaws espouse, with the guiding philosophy of giving the players on the pitch the best possible foundation for success, while at the same time making sure fans can appreciate all that soccer has to offer. “One of our biggest [philosophies] is accessibility to fans,” says Zaleski. “Accessibility on the financial front (for ticket prices), but also accessibility for members. We try to educate. A lot of people don't know how the ticketing process works for the World Cup or for international games.”Plus, she adds, there’s always one overarching Outlaws goal: “Helping members and fans alike get the chance to have a good time in the stadium.”She concedes that’s gotten tougher in recent years as the cost of travel and, particularly, tickets has escalated beyond all reasonable expectations. The Outlaws have worked with U.S. Soccer to keep prices for United States-run games at $45 apiece or lower, which allows for some cost certainty in an often unreasonably costly sport. Naturally, that approach isn’t working with FIFA. It turns out that there was quite the catch to the $60 tickets FIFA offered to the Outlaws: for the USMNT’s first three group stage matches, the Outlaws — typically seated directly behind one goal — will be in the 300- and 400-level sections of the stadiums. “These are the worst tickets that I’ve ever seen out of the five World Cups I’ve been to,” American Outlaws President Brian Hexsel told NBC last week. That’s classic FIFA, though, putting even the boundless faith of the American Outlaws to the test. The American Outlaws have grown from a small club of about 60 people to having membership chapters across the country, including Kansas City.Doug Zimmerman/ISI Photos via Getty ImagesThe beat goes onAbout 45 minutes before the USMNT-Senegal friendly match begins in Charlotte, a circle forms around several drummers, including Williamson. Somehow the drum corps has come up one snare player short, so a young man — who clearly had some kind of high school marching band training — steps up and joins the group. He’ll spend the rest of the game right there next to them, drumming away, a perfect embodiment of the Outlaws’ all-are-welcome ethos. In a nice bit of cross-sport solidarity, members of the Carolina Panthers’ PurrCussion drum corps join the party, adding heft and weight to the procession, along with some Panther-specific “Keep Pounding” riffs. Ulysses S. Chant and other leaders teach the gathered crowd some new chants built on the Terminator rhythm and “Crocodile Rock,” among other familiar tunes. Do the chants stick in the crowd’s memory? Not really, but the enthusiasm does, and that’s what’s important. And then they’re off, marching down McNinch Street toward Bank of America Stadium. They’ll fill Section 121, and they’ll stand, chant and cheer for two-plus hours as Pulisic and the rest of the United States outlast Senegal 3-2. Then they’ll disperse into the North Carolina evening, the sounds of drums undoubtedly echoing in their ears for days. Wherever the USMNT plays this summer, the Outlaws will gather, in person or around screens. They’ll drum, and chant, and cheer, and celebrate the very best parts of what it means to be American. And they’ll be open to everyone, including you. All you have to do to join the Outlaws is start clapping to the beat.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Greg Schiano's golf outing became a Rutgers football traditionBEDMINSTER – The demands and responsibilities of his job don’t allow Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano to spend much, or any, time on a golf course over the course of the year, but for one day each June Schiano sets aside some time to do just that. The latest edition of the Greg Schiano Charity Golf Classic was held Monday, June 8 at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, and the event’s grown over the course of its existence to now include nearly 350 golfers and raise money for four different initiatives: Chop4Change, Athletes in Action, POVAT (Project One Vet @ A Time) and the Robert E. Mulcahy Scholarship Fund, which honors former Rutgers athletic director Bob Mulcahy, who was also a close friend of Schiano. This year’s golf outing was its 20th anniversary and raised $200,000 for those causes.“It's a blessing,” Schiano said. “I think to be able to help some really, really good charities that are dear to me and to my family, it's really special.”Schiano praised the job that organizer Pat Morris does with the event.“He's an incredible guy,” Schiano said. “He's been doing it for a long time and literally takes nothing for it. Just out of the goodness of his heart. So I can't thank him enough.”Rutgers football started the Chop4Change initiative, spearheaded by chief of staff Kevin MacConnell, back in 2020, and it's grown in the time since with the players’ support. It’s donated more than 2,000 new winter coats as part of a yearly coat drive, provided gift cards for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners, delivered school supplies to communities in need and more.“I think it's important, especially in the day and age now where it's all NIL, or revenue share, and college football is becoming more professionalized,” Schiano said. “I think it's really important that our guys don't ever take for granted the blessings that they've had. Not many people get to do what they get to do, and to me, and we talk about it as a team, it's literally your obligation to give back to those that are less fortunate, in my opinion, and that's what I try to teach our guys.”The opportunity to honor Mulcahy is also personally significant for Schiano, who considered Mulcahy, who was AD from 1998 to 2009, an integral partner who helped him grow the program during his first stint in Piscataway.Mulcahy died in 2022.“Bob was as good a human being as I've ever been around,” Schiano said. “No matter how dire the circumstances, no matter how dark it might seem, he had a classic line that he would leave. Didn't matter what meeting. He'd say, ‘Keep smiling.’ And when I think of Bob, that's what I think about. He was just (a steady) leader.”The Greg Schiano Golf Classic help keeps Mulcahy’s influence alive.“He was my first AD as a head coach, and to have a memorial scholarship in his name is special,” Schiano said. “It’s a great, great opportunity.”This article originally appeared on Asbury Park Press: Rutgers football: How Greg Schiano's golf outing became tradition0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM3 reasons Jets' David Bailey should be Defensive Rookie of the Year favoriteWinning in the NFL requires more than talent. First-year New York Jets star David Bailey is going to learn that lesson very quickly. Winning pro football's Defensive Rookie of the Year Award also requires more than talent. If that's a goal of the most recent draft's second overall selection, that lesson will come swiftly, too. Opportunity matters. Production matters. Visibility matters. A player can possess all the physical gifts in the world, but if the snaps aren't there, the statistics often aren't either. Fortunately for Bailey, that shouldn't be a problem. The Jets didn't draft him second overall to spend Sundays watching from the sideline. They selected him because they believe he can become a cornerstone of their defense, and that means significant playing time should arrive immediately. Simple math tells the story. Here are three reasons to place him on your early NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year watchlists. More opportunities mean higher chances to produceMore snaps create more chances for sacks, tackles for loss, quarterback pressures, and game-changing plays. Bailey enters the league with a clear path to a major role, something many rookies spend years waiting to receive. That opportunity alone makes him worth monitoring in the Defensive Rookie of the Year race. It doesn't hurt that he arrives with an impressive resume.Bailey was a unanimous All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2025. Both achievements were accolades that helped cement his status as one of the premier defensive prospects in the draft classThe Jets need to and will place him in positions to make an impact earlyThe situation around him should also work in his favor. The Jets' pass rush simply wasn't good enough last season. Twenty-six sacks across a 17-game schedule isn't close to where New York (or any other NFL team) expects to be. As a matter of fact, that's a downright inexcusable total. Even more surprising was a defense that failed to record a single interception throughout the season. Those numbers help explain why Bailey's arrival carries so much importance. The Jets aren't asking him to be a complementary piece. They're asking him to help change the identity of the defense. A good pass rush aids coverage and vice versa. Fortunately, he won't have to do it alone. New York still possesses enough veteran talent to prevent opposing offenses from focusing exclusively on the rookie. The NFL's spotlight favors young pass rushersHistory also provides another reason for optimism. Edge rushers tend to fare well in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Sacks are easy to quantify. Quarterback hits attract attention. Dominant pass-rushing performances generate headlines.Throw in another ingredient, he's playing in New York, and this seems an opportunity to command headlines and move the needle. The market can be unforgiving at times, but it also amplifies success. If Bailey consistently disrupts opposing offenses and helps transform the Jets' pass rush, people across the league will notice. The expectations are enormous, but so is the opportunity. Bailey has the talent, the resume, and the platform. Now, he simply needs to do what the Jets drafted him to do. If he does, Defensive Rookie of the Year conversations won't be far behind. This article originally appeared on Jets Wire: 3 reasons Jets' David Bailey should be Defensive Rookie of the Year0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

The German coach is contracted until 2028 with an option to extend to 2029.MAY 19: FC Barcelona football Coordinator Bojan Krkic and FC Barcelona Sports Director Deco look on from the stands during the LaLiga EA Sports match at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on May 19, 2024 in Spain. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)Fabregas preferred over Luis Enrique as Barcelona rule out former coach’s returnThe report is particularly significant in that it explicitly rules out a return for Luis Enrique, who has been excluded from consideration both due to the financial demands of his salary and his known reluctance to accept any external interference in squad management, including from Echevarría himself. For Fabregas, the interest represents the ultimate validation of his rapid rise as a coach.Having taken Como from Serie B to the Champions League, the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder is now being lined up for one of the most prestigious jobs in world football and the club where he first came through as a young player.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPurdue football adds fast receiver to growing skill position group in 2027 classPurdue football has hit big on off-the-radar skill position prospects in the past, and will try to do so again with Georgia receiver Eron Mallard. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound product of Savannah's Benedictine Military School committed to the Boilermakers on Monday. He became the ninth known commit in the 2027 class and the first expected to play receiver.Mallard is not ranked by either Rivals or 247Sports. Until last month, he did not have a power conference offer. The first came from Purdue, and after making an official visit over the weekend, Mallard committed.Mallard totaled 657 yards and nine touchdowns on 32 receptions last season for Benedictine. He's been clocked as fast as 10.62 seconds in the 100 meters with a reported 4.45-second time in the 40-yard dash.Mallard is the fourth offensive skill position commitment for Purdue's 2027 class, joining New Trier (Winnetka, Illinois) quarterback Jackie Ryder and running backs Amos Bradford of Hollywood (Florida) Chaminade-Madonna Prep and Lawrence North's Izayveon Moore.Nathan Baird and Sam King have the best Purdue sports coverage, and sign up for IndyStar's Boilermakers newsletter. This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Eron Mallard commits to Purdue football, recruiting rankings, stats0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBroncos LB Jonathon Cooper pleads not guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence chargeDenver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper pleaded not guilty on Monday to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. Both Cooper and his long-term girlfriend were arrested on Thursday night after an alleged incident. They were both charged with criminal mischief as a crime of domestic violence, though Cooper is facing a misdemeanor-level charge and his girlfriend a petty-level offense, according to The Denver Post. Cooper pleaded not guilty to the charge in court on Monday. A motions hearing was scheduled for July 6, and a jury trial is expected to start on July 22. Cooper’s attorney said they don’t plan to file any motion to dismiss, and want to have a jury trial “as early as possible.” The Broncos’ training camp is set to start in the last week of July. The incident on Thursday started after an argument broke out in which Cooper’s longtime girlfriend alleged that he was cheating on her, according to the affidavit. The girlfriend claimed to have taken Cooper’s phone and thrown it across the room, and then went to retrieve it so she could look through it. At that point, however, the two stories differ. Cooper told police he grabbed his girlfriend by her upper arm and took the phone back. He also said that he “braced his neck against her neck” to prevent her from getting it back, and he said he threatened to break her phone if she didn’t leave his apartment, per The Denver Post. Both arrest affidavits said that Cooper bit her phone after she didn’t leave. His girlfriend, however, told police that Cooper “grabbed her by the neck” and held her up against the wall. She also said that Cooper picked her up and threw her back on the ground several times, and punched the wall “next to her face,” per the report. Officers did note in the affidavit that her injuries didn’t quite match her claims, and “did not appear consistent with a larger male lifting [her] up into the air by her throat as well as repeatedly being thrown to the ground.”Cooper had 50 total tackles and eight sacks last season, his fifth with the Broncos. He helped the Broncos defense lead the league with a franchise-record 68 total sacks last season, too. Cooper, who the Broncos selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, signed a four-year, $60 million extension with the team in 2024. The Broncos said they were “aware of the matter and are gathering more information” in a statement on Friday. "I apologize to my family to my friends and my community ... And so many others.'' Cooper put on his Instagram story on Saturday, via ESPN, while adding a bible verse. "I realize posting a bible [quote] after something very serious happens does not just mean everything is okay.''0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrom NBA Courts to Olympic Volleyball Sand: Inside Chase Budinger's Surprise Second Act in Sports (Exclusive)Chase Budinger in the NBA in 2012 (left); Chase Budinger at the Olympics in 2024 (right)Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty; Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via GettyNEED TO KNOWChase Budinger made history as the first NBA player to also play in an Olympic beach volleyball matchHe tells PEOPLE exclusively about his experience at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including meeting up with his basketball friends at the opening ceremonyThe California native also shares what was most challenging about making the switch from basketball to volleyballFew basketball players have competed in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. A small group of beach volleyball athletes can say they've hit the sand with "USA" chants filling the air at the Olympics. But only one man — Chase Budinger — has done both. While being a professional athlete in two different sports is rare, Budinger has been preparing for it his entire life. Growing up with older siblings who were busy with sports, the 38-year-old California native tells PEOPLE exclusively that he got "dragged" to all of their games and "always had a ball in my hands — playing with a ball, throwing it against a wall...I was the little brother with a basketball shooting at timeouts and halftime."Budinger played both basketball and volleyball throughout high school, and despite having a chance to play both in college, he decided to attend the University of Arizona — a school that did not have a men's volleyball program."That helped me focus just on basketball for those years, and I really just wanted to see how far basketball could take me," he says. After three years with the Wildcats, Budinger entered the NBA draft. His seven years in the NBA — which included competing in the 2012 Slam Dunk Contest, where he did a dunk over P. Diddy and a blindfolded reverse dunk — went by "so fast, in the blink of an eye," he says, and his NBA run ended earlier than expected, while he was still in his 20s.Budinger had continued to play beach volleyball as a fun and social way to stay in shape between basketball seasons, and he had hoped to someday return to the sand, explaining that volleyball players typically continued playing into their 40s and "some of the best Americans were still playing at that stage in their life."However, he always thought volleyball would be more for fun.Chase Budinger in the 2012 NBA Slam Dunk ContestCredit: Andrew D. Bernstein/NBAE via Getty"Because my basketball career got cut short, shorter than what I had expected, I felt that I was still in good enough shape, athletic, body feeling really good, I changed the mindset — full-blown, let's do this. Let's make this goal of trying to make the Olympics," he shares.Although Budinger initially paired up with Olympian Sean Rosenthal — who "showed me the ropes," in 2018 — and he carried over his hard work ethic from basketball, there were still a few new challenges to overcome. Perhaps the biggest obstacle was going from an NBA court, where the basket was always 10 feet high and the lines were the same distance apart, to the volleyball court, where weather and other conditions affect the game."I could practice every day, but when you travel to tournaments all over the world, you're fighting all these crazy elements. The sand can be different, there can be tons of wind, it can be extremely hot, it can be raining," Budinger explains. "Every tournament is different, so you have to adjust on the fly to play your best in all these different types of environments. That's something that I had to learn — and learn fast."Chase Budinger plays beach volleyball at the Paris Olympic Games in August 2024Credit: THOMAS SAMSON/AFP via GettyBudinger and his partner, Miles Evans, set their sights on the 2024 Olympic Games, but it was a tight race to be one of the two teams that would represent the United States in Paris. Budinger and Evans actually clinched their spot in the Olympics when another American team lost a tournament in the final month of qualification."We all started jumping up and down. I FaceTimed my wife right away; she's crying. That feeling of pure joy because we accomplished something that's so awesome and meaningful," Budinger recalls of the moment. "Then we went and lost our match right away because we couldn't focus anymore."Budinger became the first person to play an NBA game and compete in an Olympic beach volleyball match. And even though he was in Paris to play volleyball, he was able to catch up with some of his basketball buddies at the opening ceremony, where he shared a quiet moment with Steph Curry during their boat ride down the Seine."He was really focusing on just taking everything in. He really wanted to present for the whole Olympics because he said it might be the only one that he does," Budinger recalls. "It was cool to experience that with him."When Budinger and Evans hit the sand in view of the Eiffel Tower, their first match was against France, and the home crowd started singing France's national anthem to hype up their team."It was so loud in the stadium," Budinger says. "I remember Miles went back to serve, and they were singing, and he's like, 'I can't think.' He talks about how he missed the serve because he was so nervous in that moment."View this post on InstagramHowever, they got their momentum and started hearing chants of "U.S.A.," a moment Budinger calls "epic."He also recalls their night match, when their introductions were timed with the Eiffel Tower's light show."They shut off all the lights, and there was an app on your phone you could download, and it also sparkled, so everyone had their phones out," Budinger recalls. "It was the coolest thing ever. You couldn't not be hyped. You had to calm yourself down because you had so much adrenaline pumping through your veins."Chase Budinger and Miles Evans compete in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on August 3, 2024Credit: Lars Baron/GettyFollow your favorite athletes on and off the field with PEOPLE's free sports newsletter — sign up now!Budinger and Evans finished in 9th place at the Paris Olympics, eliminated by Norway's Christian Sorum and Anders Mol, who went on to win the bronze medal. They are continuing to play together on the AVP tour, but Budinger recently announced that he is partnering with Trevor Crabb on the international stage, with the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as his next big goal."After making the Paris Olympics, going for the next one has given me more motivation. I know what the journey looks like and what to expect, and the effort it takes," the father of two says. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM4-star Kinston Knueppel, younger brother of Kon Knueppel, talks recruitmentKinston Knueppel is Rivals’ No. 50 overall player in the 2028 recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-6 wing at Wisconsin (WI) Lutheran averaged 10.3 points and 3.5 assists on 47.2 percent shooting from three this high school season.Knueppel is playing this summer with the Team Herro organization on Nike’s U16 EYBL Circuit. He is averaging 12.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists during circuit play.”I’m a shooting guard, can kind of do anything,” Knueppel told Rivals. “I’ll play in the post a lot, make plays from the wing or sit in the corner. I’ve gotten a lot stronger, like in the weight room, so that’s helped develop my rebounding a physicality down low.”I watch a lot of my brother (Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel). I don’t really watch much others, I just kind of work on my game. I’d say my brother and I have a similar mid-range jumper and the three-pointer. I wouldn’t say I’m as high level as him yet, but I’m trying to get there.”Rivals recently caught up with four-star Kinston Knueppel to discuss the latest with his recruitment.Kinston Knueppel talks recruitment”I don’t think I have any offers yet,” Knueppel said. “We’re hearing from Davidson, Louisville, Purdue, and Illinois some.”There is a long way to go with Knueppel’s recruitment, but he has an idea of some things he will be looking for.“I want to go somewhere I can develop my game, but I want to win. I want to play for a winning coaching staff and a winning program. I don’t think that play style will really matter to me, I can fit into any system. Really, winning and development will be the two biggest things.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLB Power Rankings: Cardinals have staying power, Padres fading fastFeatured in this week’s MLB Power Rankings, we discuss the unexpected breakouts for Jake Bauers and Jordan Walker, the Padres’ feeble offense, the A’s doing a residency in Las Vegas this week, and Payton Tolle's emergence as one of my favorite players. As a reminder, this article is a combination of current performance and long-term outlook.Let’s get started!Note: Rankings are from the morning of Monday, June 8▶ Check out this week’s SP streamer recommendations from Eric Samulski1) Atlanta BravesLast week: 1Everything is coming up Braves. They were down 2-0 against the Pirates on Sunday before Michael Harris II delivered a go-ahead three-run double in the seventh. Harris was held out of the lineup in consecutive games due to a back issue, but Sunday’s heroics were a good sign. The Braves have won eight out their last 10.PINCH-HITGO-AHEADBASES-CLEARING DOUBLEMichael Harris II gets CLUTCH pic.twitter.com/58bsEREdPy— MLB (@MLB) June 7, 20262) Los Angeles DodgersLast week: 2Shohei Ohtani was hitting .233 on May 11. In 23 games since then, he’s put up an insane .419/.510/.721 batting line. He’s delivered multi-hit games in five out of his last six. His season OPS now sits at .939 and he’s also boasting a 0.74 ERA. We’re getting so used to his brilliance that it’s easy to start to get a bit numb to it, but we’re watching history in motion every time he’s on the field. Try to appreciate.3) Milwaukee BrewersLast week: 3This year’s version of the Brewers have reached 40 wins faster than any team in franchise history, which is a crazy sentence to write. They’ve naturally needed some players to exceed expectations for this to happen and nobody stands out more than Jake Bauers. After making some changes to his batting stance, the 30-year-old leads the Brewers with 11 homers and 40 RBI to go along with a stellar .281/.376/.516 batting line.4) New York Yankees ⬆️Last week: 5The Yankees take a jump even with the brutal news that Aaron Judge will be shut down for the next month or so due to the stress fracture in his right rib. Still, Judge made his presence known on Sunday. Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 0-for-3 before switching to the Captain’s bat. The result was appropriate.Jazz Chisholm Jr. goes yard The @Yankees have broken it open in the 8th! pic.twitter.com/GbR0OKtubv— MLB (@MLB) June 7, 20265) Tampa Bay Rays ⬇️Last week: 4The Rays have finally hit a bit of a wall, dropping 10 out of their last 13 games. They are hitting just .233 as a team during that time, adding to the skepticism over their staying power in the AL East.6) St. Louis Cardinals ⬆️Last week: 9The Cardinals pulled of a three-game sweep of the fading Reds over the weekend while Jordan Walker went 7-for-14 (.500) with two doubles and a homer. Arguably the season’s biggest surprise, Walker is 12th among qualified hitters with a .922 OPS while also sporting 16 homers and 47 RBI across 62 games. The 24-year-old is almost certainly headed to the All-Star Game, but can he be voted in as a starter?7) Cleveland Guardians ⬇️Last week: 6After taking two out of three against the Yankees in New York last week, now the Guardians will face them at home for three to begin the week. Gavin Williams leads the American League in both wins (nine) and strikeouts (94) going into Monday’s outing.8) Philadelphia Phillies ⬆️Last week: 13MLB is often a copycat game, so how soon before others start dousing their entire heads with water? Brandon Marsh has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career and currently leads the majors with a .338 batting average. Mike Petriello of MLB.com recently did a piece breaking down Marsh’s historic success with BABIP in his career, which you should definitely check out if you haven’t already.9) Chicago White Sox ⬆️Last week: 10The White Sox called up Jacob Gonzalez after Munetaka Murakami landed on the IL and he fittingly unleashed this 428-foot blast for his first MLB homer on Saturday.Jacob Gonzalez sent his first career home run 428 feet pic.twitter.com/rG5w8YRuMG— Chicago White Sox (@whitesox) June 6, 2026The power is legit. Gonzalez bashed 19 home runs in just 52 games in Triple-A to start the year before his recent promotion.10) Seattle MarinersLast week: 10The Mariners have cooled down by losing three out of their last four games and they’ll now head on a seven-game East Coast swing with stops in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. It’s worth highlighting right-hander Bryce Miller, who hasn’t allowed a run in either of his last two starts. He lines up for an interesting test against the most potent lineup in baseball when he faces the Nationals on Friday.11) Chicago CubsLast week: 11It’s been bleak overall recently, but Pete Crow-Armstrong has been a completely different hitter since being moved near the top of the lineup. He’s slashing .350/.429/.650 with five homers and 10 RBI over his last 15 games.12) San Diego Padres ⬇️Last week: 7The Padres have lost 11 out of their last 13 as their offense continues to struggle. With Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado hovering around the Mendoza Line, no team has scored fewer runs this season. The Padres are dead-last in the majors with a .214 batting average, but it’s been especially bad recently. They are hitting .195 as a team over their last 34 games.13) Arizona Diamondbacks ⬆️Last week: 14The case for the Diamondbacks making a serious run this year probably included Corbin Burnes coming back and making an impact during the second half. That scenario is in serious doubt right now. Burnes, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, suffered a terse major strain behind his right shoulder and is now unlikely to return until September at the earliest.14) Pittsburgh Pirates ⬇️Last week: 12It was nice to see Brandon Lowe appear as a pinch hitter on Sunday after a scare with his knee during Saturday’s game. Still, it was a tough weekend for the Pirates, as they were swept by the Braves. Also Konnor Griffin doesn’t sound close to returning from his muscle flexor strain.15) Texas Rangers ⬆️Last week: 18The Rangers’ lineup suddenly looks a lot more potent, as Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford made their returns this weekend. Each of them homered, as well.16) Washington NationalsLast week: 16CJ Abrams and James Wood are getting most of the attention nationally, but Luis García Jr. has enjoyed a nice run at the plate in recent weeks. Since returning from a wrist injury, he’s hitting .283 with six homers, 21 RBI, and an .878 OPS over his last 27 games. García homered twice (including a grand slam) and knocked in six runs as the Nats thrashed the Diamondbacks on Friday.Luis García Jr. has his first career GRAND SLAM The @Nationals are swinging it in Arizona! pic.twitter.com/xUuPqFZY4O— MLB (@MLB) June 6, 202617) Toronto Blue JaysLast week: 17The Blue Jays should get Alejandro Kirk back any day now, but Brandon Valenzuela has earned a chance at a role moving forward. He’s homered three times in his last four games and boasts an .822 OPS through 43 games overall.18) Cincinnati Reds ⬇️Last week: 15It’s weird to see a team under .500 in the NL Central. That’s the Reds after they’ve lost eight out of their last 10 games. Elly De La Cruz is missed.19) Athletics ⬆️Last week: 20The Athletics have finally made it to Las Vegas. Okay, not really, but we’ll get a sneak preview this week as the A’s will play six games (hosting the Padres and the Rockies) at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, the home of the team’s Triple-A affiliate. They will be the first MLB regular season games to take place in Las Vegas since 1996. The A’s are set to move to Las Vegas permanently in 2028.20) Baltimore Orioles ⬇️Last week: 19The Orioles had a chance to reach the .500 mark before dropping the final two games against the Blue Jays over the weekend. To be fair, Sunday’s game was a reminder that there are some weird rules about what is considered running in the base path. The Blue Jays cut the Orioles' lead to 4-2 in the 6th on this groundout by Brandon Valenzuela.Manager Craig Albernaz and shortstop Gunnar Henderson both thought Ernie Clement was out of the basepath on the play and should have been ruled out. However, the call was not changed. pic.twitter.com/lclaZffzeQ— Jake Rill (@JakeDRill) June 7, 202621) Miami Marlins ⬆️Last week: 25The Marlins’ lack of rotation depth is being exploited right now, but Max Meyer continues to emerge as a front-of-the-rotation starter. Upping the usage of his sweeper has been a game-changer to complement his slider. His .185 batting average against is third-lowest among qualified starters, with only Chase Burns (.185) and Jacob Misiorowski (.150) ahead of him.22) Minnesota TwinsLast week: 22Royce Lewis call the call back to the majors this weekend after a red-hot stretch in Triple-A. However, what I care about is the saga surrounding his promotional giveaways.Twins originally had a Royce Lewis replica jersey giveaway for today. They took it off the promotional schedule when Lewis was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. Then the Saints scheduled a separate Royce Lewis t-shirt giveaway for today, only for him to get called up by the Twins.— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) June 6, 2026By the way, Aaron recently left The Athletic so he could continue to cover the Twins independently. Please check out his work and subscribe for comprehensive coverage and analysis on all-things Twins. I’m not just saying that because he helped hire me at Rotoworld some 17 years ago.23) Houston Astros ⬇️Last week: 21As we sit here on June 8, Yordan Alvarez has a real chance at the first Triple Crown in MLB since Miguel Cabrera in 2012. He currently leads the AL in homers (22) and RBI (48) and only the Rays’ Yandy Diaz has a higher batting average. With Aaron Judge out indefinitely, the only thing that might get in the way is Alvarez’s own health.24) New York MetsLast week: 24It has been a troubling first two months for the Mets, but Carson Benge’s progress has been fun to watch. He became the fourth Mets rookie to have five hits and a homer in the same game, joining John Milner (1972), Alex Ochoa (1996), and Pete Alonso (2019). That game from Ochoa was actually a cycle, which I remember well, because I cut the newspaper clipping from the box score and hung it on the wall in my room, convinced he would be a superstar. Maybe Benge can actually be that guy for the Mets?25) Boston Red Sox ⬇️Last week: 23This has been an exasperating first half for Red Sox fans, but at least they get to watch Payton Tolle pitch every fifth day.Payton Tolle almost had this one ... pic.twitter.com/PGp1vwzAA1— MLB (@MLB) June 3, 2026In addition to getting it done on the mound, Tolle is already one of the most interesting characters in MLB.26) Detroit Tigers ⬆️Last week: 28Things are looking up here, as the Tigers have won five out of six. Tarik Skubal fired five scoreless innings in a rehab start with High-A West Michigan on Sunday. He’s on track to return Friday against the Guardians to kick off what’s a legitimately important series against their division rivals. If the Tigers can’t climb the standings in a hurry, Skubal could soon become the focus of the upcoming trade deadline.27) San Francisco Giants ⬇️Last week: 26Kneel before the offensive powerhouse that is the Giants. While San Francisco won a low-scoring game in extra innings on Sunday Night Baseball against the Cubs, they scored 30 runs between Thursday and Friday. That’s the most over a two-game stretch since April 30, 1944. May was mostly a month to forget for Matt Chapman, but he’s been an absolute monster so far this month.28) Kansas City Royals ⬇️Last week: 27The Royals have won five out of their last seven, but Bobby Witt Jr. was forced to exit Sunday’s game due to knee soreness. Jac Caglianone also got banged up over the weekend following a collision with the right-field wall.29) Los Angeles AngelsLast week: 29Would you believe that the Angels went 6-0 against the Dodgers last season? The Angels were 0-5 against the Dodgers this season before the bottom of their batting order feasted in a historic fashion yesterday. The bottom 4 spots in the Angels’ order went 13-for-15, including starting 11-for-11It’s the 1st time in at least the expansion era (1961) a team’s 6-7-8-9 spots started a game 10-for-10 or betterTheir .867 BA is the highest by 6-9 in a game since at least 1900@EliasSportshttps://t.co/0M9VeKDsCp— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) June 7, 202630) Colorado RockiesLast week: 30It’s not easy to be a pitcher on the Rockies, which is why it’s worth giving some serious props to southpaw Kyle Freeland for passing Aaron Cook for the most innings pitched in franchise history. Freeland is 1,313 1/3 innings after his start against the Brewers on Sunday.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGood news for Indian fans: Earlier start times for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's likely debut seriesNEW DELHI: Indian cricket fans will not have to stay up as late to watch the men's team's upcoming T20I series in England. In a move aimed at boosting television viewership in India, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has revised the start times for three floodlit T20Is during India's white-ball tour of England next month.India will play five T20Is and three ODIs in England between July 1 and July 19. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the ECB has advanced the start times of three evening T20Is by one hour following discussions with broadcasters. The matches were originally scheduled to begin at 6.30 pm local time (11 pm IST), as announced last year. However, they will now start at 5.30 pm local time (10 pm IST), making them more viewer-friendly for Indian audiences. The adjustment means fans in India can expect the matches to finish around 2 am instead of stretching close to 3 am.The decision once again underlines the commercial significance of India matches for English cricket. Tours involving India continue to be among the ECB's most valuable broadcast properties, with television audiences playing a major role in scheduling decisions. The timing change comes days after the BCCI announced India's squads for the two-match T20I series against Ireland and the five-match T20I series against England.Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, replacing Suryakumar Yadav as captain, while the biggest talking point was the inclusion of teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in a senior India squad for the first time. The 15-year-old earned his maiden call-up after a record-breaking IPL 2026 season.Sooryavanshi finished as the leading run-scorer of IPL 2026, collecting 776 runs while winning the Orange Cap. He scored one century and five fifties at a remarkable strike rate of 237.30.His sensational campaign fetched him five individual awards — Emerging Player of the Season, Most Valuable Player, Orange Cap, Best Strike Rate of the Season and Most Sixes in the tournament. The youngster now stands on the verge of creating history. If selected during the Ireland or England series, Sooryavanshi will become India's youngest international cricketer, surpassing the record currently held by Sachin Tendulkar.Tendulkar made his India debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days during the 1989 tour of Pakistan. At 15, Sooryavanshi has the opportunity to break a record that has stood for nearly four decades.India squad for T20I series against Ireland: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (VC), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohd. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKentucky QB signee Matt Ponatoski says MLB Draft, not college football is ‘Option 1A’Since signing with Kentucky in December, four-star quarterback Matt Ponatoski has been seen by many as the future of the Wildcats’ football program. Keeping his commitment and ultimately getting Ponatoski to sign was a huge early recruiting victory for Will Stein and Co. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder was ranked by Rivals as the No. 16 quarterback in the 2026 class and has been tabbed as a prospect loaded with potential. But Ponatoski’s focus isn’t on the gridiron. A dual-sport star in baseball and football, he is instead heading into the summer with the mindset of playing in the MLB. According to a report from the Lexington Herald-Leader, he didn’t report with the rest of the football team for summer workouts last week. On top of that, he all but confirmed his priority is playing baseball in an appearance on the Overslotbaseball.com podcast. “I want to be a professional baseball player and that’s been my dream since I was a little kid,” he said. “… I came on late with the recruiting with football and I think it portrays that I want to be a football player — and yes, that’s a great option if I don’t go to the draft, but like, I want to be a professional baseball player as fast as possible. That’s where my heart’s been and it’s always been.”Ponatoski focused on pitching at the pro levelThe former Archbishop Moeller (Ohio) committed to the Wildcats to play both sports in July 2025, choosing UK over major offers in each. That was coming on the heels of a massive junior season, where he accounted for 4,217 yards and 57 touchdowns in 16 games. His numbers dropped significantly as a senior, but he remained one of the top quarterbacks in his class. On the diamond, Baseball America ranks him as the 55th-best high school prospect in the draft but only No. 139 in terms of available players. He features a 97 mile-per-hour fastball and a 0.83 ERA in 25 1/3 innings this season with 44 strikeouts, but primarily projects to play shortstop at the professional level. Ponatoski, however, sees himself as a pitcher. Next month’s MLB Draft (July 11-13) will ultimately determine that — as well as whether he ever dons Kentucky blue in either sport. As for the Wildcats, Notre Dame transfer Kenny Minchey is the expected starter for next season and has at least two years of eligibility remaining. Kentucky also holds a commitment from Rivals’ No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 class, Jake Nawrot.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
