I'm not sure how you say "gay rights" in Simlish, but I'm happy that SimNation is all in for it!In a trailer released this week, Electronic Arts's The Sims 4 teased upcoming free content for the game. And it is jam-packed with Pride-related content, including a 'Pride Rocks! Collage' with variations of Pride flags to makeup, beds, tattoos, and clothing referencing colors from various flags. The trailer ends with 'Show Your Pride Everyday' and encourages fans of the life simulation to play. This isn't the first time the game has included LGBTQ+-related content. In 2016, the game overhauled gender customization and added gender-neutral bathrooms and its first Pride-related content in 2019. That same year, they redesigned The Sims 4 key art to include its first lesbian couple. In addition to adding trans and non-binary NPCs into the game over the years, in 2022, they released new options for players who wanted to explore sexual identities. Working with GLAAD and It Gets Better, the updates were an effort to reflect the diverse identities of gamers within the simulated world. The equally queer-affirming Sims Community has also added mods and custom content into the game, bringing to Sims lifeand perhaps the lives of those who play itsome much-needed queer joy. Since President Trump's return to office, many companies have scaled back on LGBTQ+ and other DEI initiatives. But some companies have doubled down on their commitments, determined to amplify the diverse voices of their employees and reflect the diversity of their customers. No word yet on when the content will be released.
