Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who spent years calling for the January 6 insurrectionists to not face any consequences for their violent attempt to stop Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 election that resulted in the deaths of five people and left nearly 200 police officers injured is demanding Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) face prosecution for trying to ask an administration official questions.I think he should be charged. He should be prosecuted, she said on NewsNation, a conservative news network. He came in very aggressively, and then he actually fought police. He actually resisted arrest and was aggressively refused to leave. Democrats have condemned the attack on a sitting U.S. senator as an authoritarian move intended to make members of Congress more afraid to speak out.But Greene, who spent years defending January 6 insurrectionists who share her political ideology, said that the Democratic senator should have been wearing a pin to identify himself as a senator instead of just being one of only two U.S. senators in the state and identifying himself verbally. She also told reporters outside of Congress yesterday that Padilla looked very aggressive and that he was attacking the secretary of homeland [sic] and he was attacking police officers and thats against the law. She did not explain why she believed he was attacking people when the videos of the incident didnt show that.He should be arrested, she said. No one is above the law.Greene supported the pardons of the January 6 insurrectionists and even said it was absurd for people to think that they should face prosecution for their attack on the Capitol, where they called for the death of Mike Pence and set up a makeshift gallows to execute him as he presided over the Senate before the Secret Service escorted him to safety. All of yalls obsession with January 6 is absurd, Greene said earlier this year. Everybody up here has their panties in a wad. Theyre pardoned and thank God. Democrats have stood up for Padilla. The Trump government has crossed one of the reddest of red lines that can exist in a free society, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on social media of the arrest. Any salute to the flag or talk of patriotism or American greatness is completely hollow if you do not respect the freedoms that that flag represents, the Constitution that directs the course of this country, and theyve shown what they think of those freedoms and that Constitution.California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Padilla is one of the most decent people I know. This is outrageous, dictatorial, and shameful, Newsom said. Trump and his shock troops are out of control. This must end now.Iam shocked by how far we have descended in the first 140 days of this administration, said Adam Schiff, Californias other Democratic U.S. senator.
