He tried to force his way into a Pride event with a loaded gun. Now hes paying the price.
An armed man was arrested after trying to enter a Pride event in Wilton Manors, a southeast Florida city with a sizeable LGBTQ+ population. He now faces one count of trespassing and one count of unlawful carry of a concealed firearm.Police arrested 31-year-old Michael Monheit last Saturday around 8 p.m. local time after he allegedly walked through a metal detector at the entrance of the citys Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival, setting off a detector alarm, which he ignored, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He also repeatedly ignored law enforcement officers who told him to stop, but they detained him. Police found he was carrying a Glock 43 9mm handgun as well as two loaded 9mm bullet magazines in his pockets that held a total of 12 bullets. Subscribe to our Newsletter today He didnt have a concealed weapons permit as it had been revoked after he was previously and involuntarily committed to a mental health hospital under the Baker Act, a state law that allows the temporary detention and involuntary examination of individuals believed to be mentally ill and a possible danger to themselves or others.He was also arrested in late 2016 after allegedly driving a vehicle into a gated communitys security gate, nearly hitting residents and children with his vehicle, and then shooting a gun several times into the garage door of his own home in a deliberate attempt to intimidate and scare community maintenance workers, Palm Beach County court records state.A complaint from his local homeowners association said he would dump loose trash in his driveway daily, attracting coyotes, birds, rodents, and other wildlife, the aforementioned publication added.
