KATSEYE, the gnarly girl group currently taking over the world, just appeared in a gorgeous new jeans ad from Gap.The six girls, Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae, all appear in the new ad decked out in denim, and they dance to "Milkshake" by Kelis. The choreography is certainly an homage to Gap's incredible choreographed ads over the years, while also including references to KATSEYE's own iconic dances like "Gnarly" and "Debut." Each girl gets a moment to shine in their adorable denim outfits. "Better in Denim," the ad concludes."This is denim as you define it," reads the social media caption. "Your individuality. Your self-expression. Your style. Powerful on your own. Even better together."KATSEYE also shared what the ad meant to them. "We each come from different parts of the world, with unique cultures, languages, and stories," they said in a statement. "Its the heart of what makes our sound, style, and presence stand out."Each of the six girls hails from a distinct ethnicity. Daniela, Lara, and Megan are all American, while Sophia is from the Phillipines, Manon is from Switzerland, and Yoonchae is from South Korea. KATSEYE is certainly on a roll, as the major advertisement comes just a couple of weeks after their instantly iconic performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago, where they drew one of the biggest daytime crowds ever. The moment is also freshly off the heels of Sydney Sweeney's controversial denim advertisement for American Eagle, which was recently slammed for its play on words with "jeans" and "genes" that some called a eugenics dog whistle."Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color," Sweeney said in the now viral ad that she appeared in by herself. "My jeans are blue."Following the political hailstorm that ad caused, Gap's inclusive, uplifting, and fun take on denim is certainly refreshing and KATSEYE, which even includes LGBTQ+ members, is the perfect group to embody that energy.
