From stag-do drag video to the World Cup - the bizarre rise of Scotland's other national anthem
You can only imagine the Andy Considine stag-do group chat each time the Yes Sir, I Can Boogie resurrection reaches a new height. It is already bizarre enough that a Scotland anthem has been born from a video of the former Aberdeen defender dressed in drag dancing to the 1970s Baccara hit.But the sight of Fenway Park, one of sport's most iconic arenas, bouncing to the song 3,000 miles away from home was another pinch-me moment. So just how has a makeshift music video, arranged by a gang of boozed-up mates on a stag weekend over a decade ago, become the soundtrack of a summer in Boston? The night the Tartan Army took over iconic Fenway Park'Cartwheels at breakfast' & kicking about Boston - the culture shift in Scotland campFrom Aberdeen head-wetting to five-hour Shoreditch shootThe roots of this tale start on the day Considine - who won three caps for Scotland but played almost 600 times for Aberdeen - celebrated the birth of his eldest son with close friends and family.Known as 'wetting the baby's head' in the UK, his cousins Victor and Liam spent the entire day out in Aberdeen randomly belting out Baccara's Yes Sir, I Can Boogie in every karaoke bar they set foot in.It wasn't until further down the line that Considine would realise the significance of the song, when the same group reunited for his stag do in London.Considine was given a drag outfit to wear on the Saturday of that weekend. A drinking game that had him "blootered" by late morning followed, before he was notified by his best man that they would be shooting a music video.A taxi was booked to Shoreditch, where a huge studio and make-up rooms awaited the former centre-back and his entourage to record their own version of the disco hit, which spent a week at the top of the UK charts in 1977."I got dolled up... my dad and uncles did too," he revealed on Open Goal in 2021. "As the hours went by, it just got more ridiculous."It took five of those "ridiculous" hours to finish the video, which was then revealed during a best man speech at Considine's wedding."It didn't go down well..." he said. The birth - and rise - of unofficial Scotland anthemFive years on, the nation was gripped by post-match footage of the Scotland team bouncing to the beat of Baccara in Serbia after sealing qualification for Euro 2020.Considine was an unused substitute on that famous night in Belgrade but was seen celebrating wildly with dressing-room DJ Kieran Tierney and the rest of the squad in a legendary video posted on Scotland's social media platforms. The Tartan Army were unable to travel for the behind-closed-doors play-off amid strict Covid lockdown measures, but the anthem was fresh in the memory when a limited number of supporters were able to attend Euros matches that summer. The victory and the scenes that followed provided a much-needed lift to the nation and the disco duo, who were blown away by the shock revival."With this pandemic, I have been sitting at home and this has uplifted me in a way you cannot imagine," Mendiola, who died five years ago, told BBC Scotland."I will always thank the Scottish team and especially Andy Considine for making me so happy after 43 years."I saw all the articles and everyone was calling me. I was delighted. I thanked the Scotland team and spoke with Andy over Instagram. He had such nice words."The anthem's legacy continues, becoming a staple of the Hampden playlist and following the team to Euro 2024 in Germany and to the United States this summer. The sight of tens of thousands of Scots throwing themselves about to the tune after a first World Cup win in 36 years would have been a surreal one for Considine and the group that dragged him to that Shoreditch studio.Days later, footage of Boston Red Sox fans joining in during a Tartan Army takeover at Fenway Park took things to a silly new level - and there is time yet to go beyond that.World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World Cup

    'Crazy' Nunez return 'might work'
[Getty Images]The Redmen TV's Dan Clubbe says Liverpool re-signing Darwin Nunez "might work" despite sounding "crazy".The Uruguay striker departed for Al-Hilal for £46m last summer but was left out of the Saudi Pro League side's squad for the second half of the season and is reportedly considering terminating his contract with the club. The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to Anfield, especially with Hugo Ekitike sidelined with a long-term Achilles injury."There's pros and cons to this one," Clubbe told BBC Radio Merseyside. "I do see merit in it. In terms of the work that needs to be done elsewhere in the squad, if you find yourself in a position where you don't have loads of money left in the coffers then he is there, he is available, he knows the Premier League, and knows Liverpool."He has spoken about how much me missed the fans and Anfield so there is a definite upside."We know what he is, we know what he brings. He's very raw, he's all chaos, he's definitely a willing runner. He needs to be refined a little bit and reigned in a bit at times because he can frustrate the life out of us as fans. But he's free and Liverpool have a lot of money to spend elsewhere anyway."As a short-term solution to the Ekitike injury situation, I can see it working as mad as that sounds. I never thought in a million years I would be saying bring back Darwin Nunez but as cas it sounds it might work."Listen to the full chat below or on BBC Sounds

Jayden Daniels helps NFC East quarterbacks rank among the best
It's been a fairly busy offseason for the Washington Commanders, and they'll wrap up spring work this week with mandatory minicamp on June 16-18. After that, they're off for a month and return to the practice field for training camp in July. We're officially in the most boring time of year in the football world. Player movement is rare. Coaching hires and front office changes are long completed. Now, we wait. We wait for training camp to start because it signals the beginning of the season, as it slides right into preseason activity. While we wait, Around the NFL writer Nick Shook recently ranked each division in the NFL by their crop of quarterbacks. The NFC East houses Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, Jaxson Dart, and Jayden Daniels. He ranks the NFC East quarterbacks No. 3 in the NFL.Here's what Shook said about Daniels' part in the ranking:Jayden Daniels' sophomore season was essentially a wash due to multiple injuries. He couldn't stay on the field consistently enough to establish a rhythm and sustained his worst ailment in garbage time of a blowout loss, underscoring the waste that was the Commanders' season as a whole. I pray they get back on track in 2026 and keep Daniels upright and healthy, because he's too good to spend most of the season on the sideline.Keeping Daniels upright and healthy is the Commanders' No. 1 goal for 2026. After watching him take the reins in 2024, leading the Commanders to their first NFC Championship appearance in over 30 years, the team learned in 2025 that Daniels is vital to the team's success. The NFC East looks to be one of the most competitive divisions in 2026, and it's largely because the division houses some top-tier quarterbacks. Daniels is among them, and the Commanders hope to be the team that takes the division this year. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels helps NFC East QBs rank near top

Tuchel's England deal includes performance clause
Thomas Tuchel formally took up his role as England boss on 1 January 2025 [Getty Images]England head coach Thomas Tuchel's two-year contract extension is subject to a performance clause, Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham has revealed. With his original deal having been due to expire at the end of the World Cup, the FA and Tuchel agreed a new two-year contract earlier this year that takes the German to the end of Euro 2028.Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Tuchel was given the remit to win the World Cup when he was appointed by England in 2024.Bullingham was asked whether the FA is protected should England's performance at this World Cup mean it does not want Tuchel to lead the team at Euro 2028."There's performance clauses in every single contract at the FA, but I'm not going into any detail of what they are," said Bullingham.Asked whether there was a break clause in the deal that Tuchel can activate, Bullingham said: "We can hold him to the contract."Tuchel's England launch their World Cup campaign on Wednesday when they face Croatia in Arlington, Texas (21:00 BST).I'll keep gambling with fitness for England - SakaTaking a leaf from Arsenal's playbook - Tuchel's set-piece plan'We can't expect someone to wait around'Speaking at England's World Cup media centre in Kansas City, Bullingham delivered a strong defence of the governing body's decision to extend Tuchel's contract before the tournament. The FA has faced criticism for rewarding Tuchel with fresh terms without knowing the final outcome of his initial mission, given the 52-year-old's target upon his appointment was to win England's second World Cup.But Bullingham said: "The reality is he's a top-level manager who would be in demand and we knew we had someone who was doing a really good job and we can't just expect someone to wait around and just leave it and see how you go."That's not the reality of life in any profession. We have someone doing a really good job, we thought we could sign him up for two more years - it's a home tournament (Euro 2028) where the pressure is even bigger and we have a manager who has been there and done it."Bullingham also made clear that the FA was keen to avoid the scenario of uncertainty over its manager's future overshadowing the World Cup.He said: "You never really want that hanging over you when you get into a tournament."Bullingham pointed out that anyone on a fixed-term contract would need to consider their future as such a deal neared its end."It was more about looking to 2028," he added. "It's a very important home tournament for us and we wanted the best chance to do the best we can and we felt we had a very good manager, so why not extend?"They are two different projects. So the 2028 project, we want the best manager in place - we have signed him up. We are still looking at this World Cup to give ourselves the best possible chance and we said at the time we felt he gave us the best possible chance. We still feel that."If you look back at any tournament and you work back from it, you look at who is the best manager you want, when can he be available, when can you sign him up. I would argue it's a bigger risk the other way."'Drinks breaks at Euro 2028? I don't think so'Meanwhile, Bullingham believes the drinks breaks that are a feature of the matches in the United States will not become the norm.Because of the hot and humid conditions that teams are playing in during the World Cup, world football's governing body Fifa has permitted hydration breaks in each half.During the breaks in play, the coaches are allowed to brief their players."Our view is that one of the biggest factors, particularly for European teams, is the heat," said Bullingham."It's challenging, so having a guaranteed drinks break is very important. I think they will be critical for every European team. From a player welfare point of view they are really important."Asked whether the breaks could be implemented at Euro 2028, Bullingham said: "I don't think so - I wouldn't have thought that at all."World Cup hydration breaks - who are the winners and losers?England's players during a drinks break in the friendly with Costa Rica in Florida last week [Getty Images]BBC Sport pundits choose England World Cup XIs - who would you pick?World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBC

However, the junior did plenty of work on the other side of the pitch. Loch ranked second on the team in assists (14), third in points (30) and fourth in minutes played (1,469).Baseball: Cody Morgan, Vero BeachYear: SeniorMorgan served as the ace of a talented starting staff and put up the best numbers of his prep career. Prosper averaged 20.6 points per game on 55 percent shooting on the field. Prosper knocked down 60 3-pointers at a 43 percent clip while hitting 86 percent of his free-throw attempts. Serie A defender wants to wait for Barcelona despite Chelsea and Atletico Madrid interest
Serie A defender wants to wait for Barcelona despite Chelsea and Atletico Madrid interestBarcelona started the summer transfer window like a bullet train, moving ahead of everyone else to wrap up a deal for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon.Slowly, though, since that deal happened, they have metamorphosed into a freight train, taking their own sweet time before making the next move.So many players are linked with Barça on a daily basis, but the Catalan club are yet to go in strongly for another player, except for the solitary bid they submitted for Julian Alvarez.Among the many names on the club’s radar is versatile Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, who is liked by the Catalan club. The Italian defender is versatile and can play on either flank. With the full-back department at Barça crying out for depth, someone like Cambiaso would prove to be a floor-raising signing.Cambiaso keeps Barça as priorityAccording to SPORT, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have both sounded out the Juventus defender over a potential transfer this summer.Cambiaso wants Barcelona move. (Photo by Chris Ricco/Getty Images)However, Cambiaso, who is already in contact with Barcelona, is keen to wait for a potential opportunity to wear Blaugrana. The situation is not advanced, but it is one Barça should monitor carefully. They cannot wait forever, especially with other clubs lurking.Juventus renewed Cambiaso’s contract until June 2029, which also means this will not be a cheap operation for Barça by any stretch of the imagination. That said, the Italian club are said to be willing to consider offers this summer, with a transfer fee of around €30 million being floated.Balde shapes the whole planEverything depends on Alejandro Balde. Barça have both Cambiaso and Alejandro Grimaldo on the list in case Balde leaves this summer, but the current feeling is that the academy product will stay unless a huge offer arrives.Alejandro Balde’s future is far from secure. (Photo by Aitor Alcalde/Getty Images)Balde has had a complicated period in terms of role and prominence, but he is still young, homegrown and physically gifted.Selling him should only be considered if the offer is impossible to ignore. At the same time, Barça cannot ignore the tactical question.Hansi Flick needs full-backs who can handle intensity, recovery runs and inventive decisions in possession.Cambiaso would bring versatility, but he would also arrive with a cost and the expectation of playing.Barça should not rush the moveThe priority for Barça is, and has to be, signing Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese international can cover both defensive flanks. He is coming off a loan spell where he impressed for Flick’s side.Cambiaso is an attractive market idea because he is a specialist, experienced and seemingly open to Barça.However, the better option would be to sign Cancelo, keep Balde and give the Spaniard a chance to come into his own in the upcoming season.

Can Messi and Ronaldo meet at World Cup? Projecting the pathway for iconic Argentina vs. Portugal clash in 2026
Can Messi and Ronaldo meet at World Cup? Projecting the pathway for iconic Argentina vs. Portugal clash in 2026 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both enjoyed legendary careers that will no doubt see them enshrined as icons of soccer by the time they decide to hang up their boots.Yet the two are inextricably linked, as they built a high-profile rivalry simply by having existed in the same era of football history.Largely, the narrative behind this rivalry was artificially engineered by fans and media instead of cultivated naturally on the pitch, since the two players did not match up against one another often during their careers. The majority of the matches between Messi and Ronaldo came during the latter's time at Real Madrid, seeing them contest the famous El Clasico rivalry multiple times a year.Outside of that, however, it was exceedingly rare that the two ever met. As such, one look at the 2026 FIFA World Cup bracket has generated considerable excitement between the fervent fans on both sides of the coin, with the understanding that the two could potentially face off in the first-ever competitive meeting between the two on the international stage.Yet it's far from guaranteed that this will come to pass, as the football gods must give their consent for the matchup to play out. The Sporting News explains what must happen for Messi's Argentina and Ronaldo's Portugal to meet at the World Cup this summer, an event which would generate unfathomable levels of buzz and interest throughout the world.MORE:Comparing the career milestones of Messi and Ronaldo, from goals to trophies and moreHave Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo played at the World Cup?Amidst the twists and turns of their storied rivalry, modern soccer legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have never faced off at the FIFA World Cup.They have only met twice on the international stage, both coming in international friendlies. The first meeting between the two happened in February of 2011, when a goal and assist from Messi saw Argentina beat Portugal 2-1 in Geneva, Switzerland. Ronaldo scored a consolation for Portugal, leveling the game 21 minutes in after a 14th-minute opener from Angel Di Maria, but Messi struck in the 90th minute with a dramatic winner.A rematch was arranged three years later in November of 2014, when they clashed at Old Trafford, the home of English club Manchester United. This time, Ronaldo got revenge, as a goal from Raphael Guerreiro in stoppage time saw Portugal snatch a 1-0 victory. How Messi and Ronaldo can meet at the 2026 World CupAs Portugal and Argentina could not be drawn together in the group stage, with both teams ranked high enough to be drawn from Pot 1, they can only square off in the knockout round.Obviously, there are numerous possibilities for any team in the 48-team field to meet any other team, so until the group stage concludes and the knockout bracket is formulated, we will focus on potential matchups earlier in the elimination round where predicting the potential scenarios is less dependent on an uncomfortable number of variables and what-ifs.There are a few ways that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo can meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but there is one pathway to an iconic Argentina vs. Portugal matchup that stands out amongst the rest.Option 1 — Group winnersWith both teams expected to win their respective groups — Group K for Portugal and Group J for Argentina — it's highly possible for these two teams to clash in the quarterfinals.Should both Argentina and Portugal win their group, they would be slotted into the same pod in the knockout bracket. Both would get third-place finishers in the Round of 32.From there, should they advance, their Round of 16 tests would be slightly different; Portugal would likely have to face the winner of Group B (Switzerland, Canada, Qatar, Bosnia & Herzegovina) in the Round of 32, unless they were upset by a third-place finisher, while Argentina would meet the winner of a runner-up game between Group D (USA, Australia, Turkey, Paraguay) and Group G (Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand). If both teams survive those two games, they would square off in the quarterfinals on July 11 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Interestingly, Argentina will have played two group games at this venue already, giving them a bit of familiarity with the location.Option 2 — Runners-upIf one of Portugal and Argentina finishes first in their group, while the other finishes second, they would be drawn on opposite sides of the bracket and could not meet until the final. However, if both teams finish second in their group, they could potentially square off even earlier than anticipated. In the Round of 32, the runner-up from Group K (in this scenario, Portugal) would meet the runner-up from Group L (England, Croatia, Panama, Ghana), while the runner-up from Group J (in this scenario, Argentina) would meet the runner-up from Group H (Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde).Should they both advance through to the Round of 16, they would meet on July 6 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.Option 3 — Argentina finish thirdThe unlikeliest scenario for an early knockout matchup between Argentina and Portugal results from a scenario where Argentina disappoint in the group stage and qualify for the knockout round as one of the top eight third-place finishers. If this happens, there are a whopping five possible places a Group J third-place qualifier could end up in the bracket. One of those happens to be facing the winner of Group K, where Portugal reside. Therefore, if Portugal win their group, and Argentina qualify as a third-place finisher, it's possible they could meet in the Round of 32.Still, there is more that has to happen for this scenario to play out. FIFA has listed a nauseating 495 possible combinations of the eight third-place qualifiers, based on which group they came from. 330 include a qualifier from Argentina's Group J, and of those 330 outcomes, only seven see them placed against the winner of Portugal's Group K on July 3 in Kansas City.Far more likely is the scenario where Argentina would be drawn against the Group B winner, which is the result in 190 of the 330 possible outcomes. If they win that game, and Portugal (as Group K winners) survive their Round of 32 game, they would meet in the Round of 32 in Vancouver on July 7.There is no option to meet Argentina until the later stages if Portugal finish third in their group, as there is oddly only one possible option for placing the Group K third-place finisher in the bracket, and it is not close to anywhere Argentina could be drawn.

WWE power rankings ahead of Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia
Hello everybody, and welcome back to another week of the WWE‘s Men’s Power Rankings. As we head towards Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, you can expect the action to heat up inside the ring. With the summer’s storylines already taking place, with the King of the Ring tournament, you can expect rivalries to be sizzling hot. That being said, let’s get to this week’s list after another great week of WWE wrestling. Have a great day, everyone, and may the slams be with you.MORE: WWE power rankings following 2026 Clash in Italy10. Gunther:Gunther got his way by crying so much that he got another title shot against Cody Rhodes on Friday Night SmackDown this week. Another stipulation added to this match was that Sami Zayn is now the match’s referee. This could spell doom for our champ, because it seems Gunther has become the third wheel in this wrestle-fair.9. Bron Breakker:Feb 1, 2025; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Bron Breakker during the Men’s Royal Rumble match during the WWE Royal Rumble at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-Imagn ImagesBron Breakker was still mad about losing to Rollins a couple of weeks ago and decided to get revenge last week. That’s when Austin Theory and Breakker decided to interfere in Rollin’s Fatal-Four Way match, costing him the match. You can bet bad blood will be spilled this week, once RAW starts.8. Trick Williams:Trick Williams came out for a promo on SmackDown last week to talk about losing in the Fatal-Four Way match. Williams reminded everyone who he was and started running his mouth before Ricky Saints music hit. However, as Saints approached the ring, Carmelo Hayes came out as well, walking past Saints, which ended up causing a brawl between the three superstars. This has a triple-threat match between all three of them written all over it. 7. Oba Femi:Oba Femi came out on Monday Night RAW last week to cut a promo. He talked about how he was going to run through the entire King of the Ring tournament and then go from there. That’s when Dominik Mysterio came out to match his energy, but tried to fool Femi with an attack from behind by JD McDonagh. That failed miserably as both ran from Femi like two dogs with their tails up their rear. 6. Penta:Penta defended his Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio on RAW last week. Their match was what you expected it to be, with many high-flying moves and counters to go with them. In the end, Penta retained, but you have to give kudos to Mysterio, who only cements his legacy even more every time he laces his boots up. 5. “Main Event” Jey Uso:Jey Uso was part of a Fatal-Four Way Match on Friday Night SmackDown last week between L.A. Knight, Royce Keys, Finn Balór, and himself. After an insane match with many fun spots to pick out, Jey was able to deliver his signature splash from the ropes and secure the win. YEET!4. C.M. Punk:Jan 27, 2024; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; CM Punk reacts during the Men s Royal Rumble WWE match at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-Imagn ImagesC.M. Punk lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns in the main event at Wrestlemania. After that, Punk had some words with Rhodes about a title shot before his departure. With it now officially Summerslam season, we could see Punk return at some point this summer. 3. Seth Rollins:Seth “Freakin” Rollins was waiting for his chance to enter the King of the Ring tournament, and that’s what happened to Rollins last week on Monday Night. In a Fatal-Four Way Match, Rollins had to deal with Talla Tonga, Ricky Saints, and Je’Von Evans, who eventually won the match due to interference from the Vision. This infuriated Rollins and most likely will start off RAW this week, with his rebuttal.2. Roman Reigns:Roman Reigns defeated Jacob Fatu at the Clash in Italy, in what was a very good match between two powerhouses like themselves. From moonsaults to spears, both wrestlers used power move after power move, until Fatu fell. Reigns had an off week last week, so expect him back soon enough. 1. Cody Rhodes:Cody Rhodes has had it up to his ears with both Gunther and Sami Zayn, on so many levels. From the backstage antics, cheap shots, and now Rhodes has to defend his title in what seems to be a two-on-one match, this Friday. I feel that Rhodes still wins, but this could be setting up something for the future. Maybe that future is a familiar face that’s finally making his return to the ring this summer. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —

Johan Ghazali Vs. Ramadan Ondash Set For High-Stakes Flyweight Muay Thai Clash At The Inner Circle 24
ONE Championship has unveiled a highly anticipated matchup between two of the most exciting competitors in the flyweight Muay Thai division. Malaysian-American finisher Johan “Jojo” Ghazali meets Lebanese dynamite Ramadan “The Scorpion” Ondash in a firefight at The Inner Circle 24 on Friday, July 31.The epic clash goes down inside the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, streaming exclusively for members on live.onefc.com. The bout pits two fearless teenage warriors who thrive in chaos and hunt for finishes from opening bell to final buzzer.View this post on InstagramThe matchup materialized following Ramadan’s impressive victory over Suriyanlek Por Yenying in May, when he grabbed the mic and declared his intentions. He said following the victory:“I need ‘Jojo.’ I love him — he’s my friend. But in the ring, there are no friends. Everyone wants me to fight ‘Jojo.’ I respect him. He’s like my brother. Let’s go.”Ghazali responded immediately with characteristic fearlessness:“I’m always ready. Anyone, anywhere.” Now their words become action as two of the division’s most exciting fighters collide in what promises to be an explosive battle between friends-turned-temporary-rivals.View this post on InstagramThe bout features two athletes looking to crack the next level. Ghazali, at just 19, has a 27-10 career record with 11 finishes. In ONE, he holds eight wins with six finishes. He burst onto the scene through ONE Friday Fights, claiming four consecutive victories to earn the coveted US$100,000 main roster contract. Remarkably, Ghazali became the youngest athlete to win the life-changing deal in the weekly event series.Since his promotion to the main roster, Ghazali has experienced mixed results. He has won two of his last three matchups, showcasing a return to form and proving his early success wasn’t temporary. However, his most recent bout at ONE SAMURAI 1 in April saw him lose to Japanese ace Shimon, providing motivation for his return to winning ways against Ondash.Standing across from him is an equally dangerous competitor.View this post on InstagramOndash, also 19 years old, competes out of Tiger Muay Thai with a 13-4 career record and a 5-1 promotional tally including two finishes. He launched his promotional journey by winning four back-to-back matches to earn him his own six-figure main roster contract, making him the second-youngest athlete to achieve that feat in ONE Friday Fights. His main roster introduction brought a harsh reality check when he suffered a tough loss in his U.S. primetime debut to Aliff Sor Dechapan. However, the resilient athlete bounced back stronger, most recently defeating Suriyanlek in May.That victory proved significant beyond its result. Ondash’s win over a veteran who has taken the weekly series by storm validated his resume and displayed his ability to compete with established competitors. The momentum from that performance positioned him perfectly for his callout of Ghazali.View this post on InstagramBoth fighters understand the stakes extend beyond a victory. For Ghazali, bouncing back from his loss to Shimon with a victory over another regarded striker would prove his early success remains valid. A win over Ondash also puts him firmly in the conversation among the flyweight division’s future. For Ondash, capitalizing on his excellent flyweight debut with a statement victory over Ghazali would propel him further on the global stage. UFL 2026 tracker: Which players are coming to the NFL?
ST. LOUIS, MO - APRIL 26: St. Louis Battlehawks Wide Receiver Hakeem Butler (88) during a week five matchup where the St. Louis Battlehawks hosted the Michigan Panthers on Saturday April 26, 2025, at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis MO (Photo by Rick Ulreich/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The UFL season has concluded, as the expansion Louisville Kings defeated the DC Defenders in the championship game last weekend. With the league’s season now over, a new crop of players has become available for NFL teams to sign. The Green Bay Packers have added plenty of spring league players over the years, with the most notable being punter Daniel Whelan. Lukas Havrisik, the team’s backup kicker, also came to Green Bay directly from the UFL.So who is drawing NFL interest? Let’s take a look at which players have received tryouts (or contracts) from NFL teams thus far. We’ll continue to update this list as more information is reported.Signed PlayersWR Hakeem Butler — St. Louis Battlehawks to Denver BroncosLB Tony Fields II — Columbus Aviators to Chicago BearsCB Sean Fresch Jr. — St. Louis Battlehawks to Denver BroncosS Major Burns — Houston Gambler to Miami DolphinsThe most recognizable name on this list is probably Hakeem Butler, who was a fourth-round pick in 2019 and was named the UFL’s Offensive Player of the Year in both 2024 and 2026. Generally, NFL teams tend to pick up younger players from spring leagues, but the 30-year-old Butler is getting his chance with his sixth NFL team after three successful stints with the St. Louis Battlehawks.Players Receiving Tryouts/VisitsQB Hunter Dekkers — Houston Gamblers New Orleans SaintsRB Marcus Yarns — Houston Gamblers Denver BroncosRB Kavon Latulas — St. Louis Battlehawks Denver BroncosRB Dae Dae Hunter — Dallas Renegades Denver BroncosWR Denzel Mims — Dallas Renegades Dallas CowboysWR Tay Martin — Columbus Aviators Atlanta FalconsDetroit LionsNew Orleans SaintsWR Antwane Wells — Columbus Aviators Atlanta FalconsWR Jalen Moreno-Cropper — Houston Gamblers Denver BroncosNew Orleans SaintsWR Lawrence Keys — Houston Gamblers Denver BroncosWR Cam Camper — Orlando Storm Atlanta FalconsDenver BroncosNew York JetsWR Elijah Cooks — Birmingham Stallions Chicago BearsOL Chris Glasier — Columbus Aviators Dallas CowboysOL Gottlieb Ayedze — Houston Gamblers New England PatriotsiDL Jayden Peevy — Birmingham Stallions Atlanta FalconsiDL Devonnsha Maxwell — DC Defenders Atlanta FalconsED Olakunle Fatukasi — Birmingham Stallions Dallas CowboysED Ron Stone Jr. — Columbus Aviators Cleveland BrownsED Jacoby Windmon — Columbus Aviators Pittsburgh SteelersED Keshawn Banks — Orlando Storm Atlanta FalconsED Jah Joyner — Houston Gamblers Pittsburgh SteelersED Rashard Lawrence — Houston Gamblers Atlanta FalconsLB Eugene Asante — Houston Gamblers Houston TexansCB Shaun Wade — Dallas Renegades New York JetsChicago BearsCB Ameer Speed — Houston Gamblers Dallas CowboysS Hudson Clark — Birmingham Stallions Miami DolphinsS Josh Minkins — Orlando Storm Denver BroncosP Brad Robbins — Columbus Aviators Arizona CardinalsThe only former Green Bay Packer drawing interest so far is edge defender Keshawn Banks, who spent his entire rookie season of 2023 on the Packers’ practice squad during the regular season. Surprisingly, Banks was promoted from the practice squad to the gameday roster in Green Bay’s playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, when he mostly played on special teams.Another name you might recognize from this list is receiver Denzel Mims, who was a second-round pick in the 2020 draft by the New York Jets. Mims’ last stop in the NFL was in the summer of 2024, when he spent a couple of weeks with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers.Hunter Dekkers is a player you’re probably going to hear about more and more, if only because of his loose connection to Brendan Sorsby, who applied for the supplemental draft on Monday after it was discovered that he had previously bet on his own team in college. Dekkers bet on Iowa State when he was the backup there, a similar situation to what led to Sorsby’s ineligibility, and he was banned from the NCAA.Because of the NCAA ban, Dekkers transferred down to the JuCo level, using a year of eligibility at Iowa Western before going pro. He’s now getting a look from the New Orleans Saints, who originally signed him as a college free agent back in 2025. This spring, he spent time with the — wait for it — Houston Gamblers.

Biggest difference for Trevor Lawrence in Year 2 of Jaguars' offense
Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a lot of success in Year 1 under Liam Coen. Along with the team finishing the year 13-4, Lawrence was an MVP finalist, while the Jaguars' offense was one of the most productive in football during the second half of the season. As good as Year 1 was, Year 2 could provide Lawrence with another jumping-off point, specifically due to the continuity of being in Coen's offense for a second offseason.Rather than learning an entirely new scheme, which was the case last offseason, Lawrence and the rest of the offense can build off of what has already been established."A lot calmer," Lawrence said after Monday's OTA practice. "A lot more confident in my progressions and what I know about the system. When I get on the grass, it's a lot less thinking. So I think that's the biggest thing: I can react, play faster, I can work on some different things in my game because the focus isn't as much on what to do or what's the play call and what are all the adjustments."Lawrence continued, "I know all that stuff and still studying that and working on it because it's easy to forget little details, but as far as being able to work on more detailed things with the receivers, the communication with those guys as opposed to lining up and running the play, we're a lot further ahead this year. So it's a good feeling to be able to work on more stuff. Our installs have been a lot more in-depth as well because the guys come ready to go and they know the system.""A lot calmer. A lot more confident."Trevor Lawrence on entering the season with a clear mind and the ability to play faster. pic.twitter.com/CkNn3qPzuc— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) June 15, 2026Throughout offseason programs, Coen has been impressed with Lawrence's ability to take care of the football, along with his willingness to push the ball downfield. An area of emphasis this offseason for Lawrence has been on building his chemistry with his wideouts within this system. The success that the Jaguars' offense had last season started with the work Lawrence did pre-snap to get that unit into advantageous looks. As the 2025 season went on and Lawrence got more comfortable operating in the offense, he improved significantly pre-snap.Now, with more reps and comfort in the offense this offseason, this is another area where Coen has seen Lawrence take a step forward."I thought he did a really nice job of taking care of the football, running the whole operation, managing the protections, and some of the concepts on the field," Coen said during minicamp. "I'm pleased with Trevor's spring. Absolutely."Not only for Lawrence but for the Jaguars team as a whole, a strong foundation was put in place last season, and now one of the goals in 2026 is finding ways to level up from there. The familiarity that comes with being in the same system for another year can play an important role in accomplishing that. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: How continuity can provide jumping-off point for Jaguars Trevor Lawrence

🚑 England on alert! Livramento could miss the World Cup 🏴
🚑 England on alert! Livramento could miss the World Cup 🏴Bad news for the England national team. Right-back Tino Livramento has picked up an injury during training ahead of the start of the World Cup, setting off alarm bells among the coaching staff led by Thomas Tuchel. The 23-year-old defender is suffering from a hamstring issue that will prevent him from making the big tournament. This absence is a major setback, as Livramento had been a key part of England’s setup throughout 2026.Faced with this emergency situation, the English federation has reacted quickly. Trevoh Chalobah, currently a Chelsea player, has been chosen to join the squad at the last minute and cover the wing-back’s absence.Fortunately for England, tournament regulations allow changes to the squad in the event of a serious injury. The only condition is that they must be processed no later than 24 hours before the opening match.Livramento’s versatility, with his ability to play on both flanks, was a major asset for Tuchel. Now, Chalobah will take on the challenge of providing the defensive solidity the national team needs for the tournament. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Heavyweights Argentina and France start World Cup quests
Lionel Messi is set to take part in his sixth World Cup (JUAN MABROMATA)Lionel Messi's Argentina and Kylian Mbappe's France, the two teams who contested a thrilling World Cup final four years ago, roar into the 2026 tournament on Tuesday.Argentina, who won that dramatic contest in Doha in a penalty shootout after it finished 3-3 following extra time, take on Algeria in Kansas City.Messi is set to play in a sixth World Cup and Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said the 38-year-old linchpin of his team "looks good" despite suffering a hamstring injury playing for club side Inter Miami in late May."Everyone wants to see him out on the pitch, not just Argentines, because of the impact he has on people," Scaloni said at his pre-match press conference."He has always been crucial for us and now he will be even more so. He looks good."Messi proved his fitness by coming on as a substitute and scoring in a warm-up against Iceland last week."He's a competitive animal," said centre-back Nicolas Otamendi. "He forces you to keep trying, he doesn't let you relax."France and their potent attack featuring Mbappe, Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele and flying winger Michael Olise open their account against Senegal in New Jersey. The French will be desperate to avoid any repetition of the opening-day defeat by the Senegalese they suffered at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea, a result which led to the then-reigning champions crashing out in the group phase."The first match is very important but it's not decisive. Starting with a win in a four-team group is ideal and always the objective," France coach Didier Deschamps said on Monday."But the one thing we can't measure or quantify is the emotional aspect. Some players might tense up with the atmosphere around the match," Deschamps warned.France have reached the final in four of the last seven World Cups, winning two and also losing two more on penalties.- Hungry Haaland -Erling Haaland makes his World Cup finals debut for Norway against Iraq after his country qualified for the first time since 1998.Haaland has just finished as the Premier League's top scorer for the third time in four seasons at Manchester City and boasts a remarkable record of 55 goals in 50 caps for his country."Hopefully he'll have a very big impact," said Norway coach Stale Solbakken, who was in the squad as a midfielder the last time Norway played at the finals in France.Iraq's Australian coach Graham Arnold believes his team can pull off an upset."We've got to perform to our best and try to shock the world," Arnold said."Qualification is not enough. I want more," he added. "We've only got everything to win and not to lose."In Monday's action, one of the pre-tournament favourites, Spain, were held to a shock goalless draw by tiny Cape Verde, one of the debutants.Even the introduction of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal as a second-half substitute made little impact.Iran played out a 2-2 draw with New Zealand in Los Angeles as the Islamic Republic's fraught World Cup began with tens of thousands of California's Iranian diaspora in the stands.Afterwards, coach Amir Ghalenoei said Iran was the "most oppressed team in the World Cup" after his players were suddenly informed they must travel back to Mexico immediately after the game.Iranian state media later reported winger Mehdi Torabi's visa had expired after the game, saying he was only issued a single-entry visa instead of the multiple-entry visa given to other national team players. It was the latest logistical nightmare for an Iran squad that arrived at the tournament being co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada under the shadow of a bitter diplomatic row between Tehran and Washington. They changed their training base from Tucson, Arizona to Tijuana in Mexico shortly before the competition. In Seattle, an upset looked on the cards as Egypt took the lead through Emam Ashour in the first half against Belgium. But veteran Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku came off the bench in the second half and his physical presence caused Egypt defender Mohamed Hany to concede an own goal and give Belgium a point.Uruguay had to come from behind to grab a point against Saudi Arabia in Group H.gj/rcw/jc

Skaters can take part in two of the six Grand Prix events to qualify for the finals in Chongqing, China, in December.Liu and Glenn are set to skate against Ami Nakai, the Olympic bronze medalist from Japan, and world bronze medalist Nina Pinzarrone of Belgium in a stacked field at Skate America. Malinin is up against experienced American skater Jason Brown and Italy's Daniel Grassl. It's not immediately clear if Liu, Glenn and Malinin plan to skate any lower-level Challenger Series events before that. Liu hasn't skated competitively since winning her Olympic gold medal in February. Something is different about Jordan Love's new Packers backup QB, Tyrod Taylor
Something is different about Jordan Love's new Packers backup QB, Tyrod Taylor originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Green Bay Packers decided to take a different approach to the backup quarterback position this offseason.Their QB2 for the year ahead will be Tyrod Taylor, the well-traveled veteran. De Zerbi to Tel: “I’m counting on you”
Tottenham Hotspur's French midfielder #11 Mathys Tel reacts to a missed chance during the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, on May 24, 2026. No use in betting publications, games or single club/league/player publications. / | AFP via Getty Images With the (supposed) imminent incoming transfer of Savinho, it was an open question just how much match time Mathys Tel would get in Tottenham Hotspur’s lineup next season. Tel was a fixture in the starting XI in the back half of the Premier League, but much of that was by necessity — with Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons both still out long term with injuries, there simply wasn’t anyone else who could really play at left back. Tel was inconsistent, but that’s not uncommon with young Premier League players, and Tel definitely fits into that category. With the amount of change coming under Roberto De Zerbi, there was a thought that Tel could be sidelined in favor of new signings. But that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.According to Alasdair Gold at Football.London, De Zerbi had a conversation with Tel before he left for the summer break and said that he was counting on him next season, and has no intention of selling the young Frenchman this summer. In some ways the trial by fire Tel got at the end of last season might be good for him — starting regularly for Spurs in a relegation battle is a crucible, and the hope is that Tel can build upon that experience to kick on and jump up a level next season. As far as rotation, while we don’t know when Odobert will come in, the addition of Savinho will give Spurs options on either flank, and it’s possible we’ll see more of Mikey Moore at least in the first half of the season until a few of the injured players come back.I’m not sure that De Zerbi’s comments completely settle the issue of Tel’s future — a lot will depend on how he does to start next season and whether he’s going to be worth keeping around long term, or if he’ll eventually be supplanted by a more experienced left winger. But on another level I’m glad to see De Zerbi put an arm around a young player who just got thrown into the fire and came out slightly singed on the other side. That’ll do a lot for his confidence heading into what is hopefully an important season ahead.

Authorities say at least 9 dead, 25 hurt after a train and bus collide in Zimbabwe
A map of Zimbabwe.2026-06-16T11:39:33Z HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — A freight train struck a bus at a level crossing in Zimbabwe on Tuesday, killing at least nine people including two children, police and rail authorities said. The crash occurred at a railway crossing in Triangle, a sugar-producing town in the country’s south, according to police.National Railways of Zimbabwe spokesperson Andrew Kanambura said in a statement the bus driver failed to stop and check for oncoming trains before crossing the tracks, violating railway safety regulations. He said at least 25 others were hurt and taken to the hospital.Photos posted by local media showed the bus crumpled beside the railway tracks with part of its side sheered off. Twisted fragments of metal and shattered debris were strewn on the ground. The crash happened less than a week after a minibus carrying schoolchildren caught fire in central Zimbabwe, killing seven. Last month, 10 people were killed in a collision between a bus and a haulage truck. Road crashes are common in Zimbabwe, where a traffic accident occurs every 15 minutes and an average of five people are killed and 38 injured each day, according to the country’s road safety agency. Authorities say human error accounts for 94% of road accidents in the southern African nation. Africa has the world’s highest road traffic fatality rate despite accounting for only about 3% of the global vehicle population, according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, with buses and other public transport vehicles frequently involved in major crashes.___AP Africa news: https://apnews.com/hub/africa

Report – The two names around which Mourinho plans to build the Real Madrid midfield
Report – The two names around which Mourinho plans to build the Real Madrid midfieldReal Madrid are preparing for a new era under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, who is set to enjoy his second spell managing Los Blancos.Mourinho’s first spell was legendary in every sense of the word, not just for those iconic battles with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, but for the foundation he laid.It was on his foundation that Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane later went on to enjoy so much success, and the Portuguese manager deserves fair credit for it.Now, he arrives for a second spell at a time when Real Madrid are struggling and unable to compete domestically.Everyone is curious to see how Mourinho sets the team up, who his preferred players are and what the style of play is going to look like.Mourinho making sweeping changes. (Photo by Jose Manuel Alvarez Rey/Getty Images)Among the many questions is the identity of the midfield under the former Inter Milan and Manchester United manager. The two-pronged midfieldAccording to Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Jose Mourinho plans to build his Real Madrid midfield around two players: Fede Valverde and Jude Bellingham. The former is one of the club’s most important players and captains, and one of the few who actually had a decent 2025/26 season.Bellingham, on the other hand, has struggled to hit the heights of his first season at the club in subsequent campaigns and will hope Mourinho can change his fortunes.Irrespective of form, there is no questioning either player’s class, and it comes as no surprise that these are the two names Jose has identified to build his midfield around. The core of Mourinho’s midfield at Real Madrid. (Photo by Jose Manuel Alvarez Rey/Getty Images)The need for an orchestratorOne thing has to be made clear here. Although the midfield might be built around these two players, they alone will not be enough to run the ship. The most important profile Real Madrid need in midfield is a deep-lying orchestrator. In other words, they need a long-delayed Toni Kroos replacement. The club have somewhat mitigated this issue by signing Bernardo Silva, but the former Man City captain is more of a utility piece in the puzzle than an expert in that role. The club have been linked with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and need such a profile to conduct the midfield under Mourinho.A lot of work still needs to be done in the transfer market. It remains to be seen how Mourinho’s midfield shapes up in the coming months and whether the club make any signings to help the manager in this regard.

New Bear Kalif Raymond is helping Caleb Williams grow as a leader
When wide receiver Kalif Raymond signed with the Bears this offseason, he said his decision ultimately came down to wanting to play for Ben Johnson, who previously coached Raymond in Detroit. Johnson knows what Raymond can do in his offense, but Johnson also knows what Raymond can do as a team leader. The leadership element has been evident to quarterback Caleb Williams, who said Raymond talked to him during a frustrating practice about how the rest of the team is looking to him to stay positive and set the right example of how to shake off frustrations."Leaf has only been here for a couple couple months or so," Williams said of Raymond. "Leaf came up to me, there was a day I wasn't having the best practice, so I got I got really frustrated. Leaf came up to me and said, 'Everybody's looking at you.' And that really resonated for me."Williams said he tries to adopt a stoic mindset of controlling the things he can and not getting rattled by the things he can't control, and he credited Raymond for keeping him on that mindset."I want to be as stoic as possible, good, bad, or indifferent," Williams said. "Not be too high or too low for the guys, and so when he said that to me, it stuck with me, and it bothered me and so just every day having that type of mindset: Be as stoic as possible, be as strong as possible for the guys because they're they're looking at me. And it takes a lot to do that because it's such a passionate — the energy in the sport is is so strong, but it's important to me, it's important to the guys, and it's important to Coach."If Raymond makes Williams a better franchise quarterback, then he's earning that new contract beyond what he contributes on the field.

Remember when Nicki Minaj called Trevor Noah gay after he brutally mocked her at the Grammys?
Nicki Minaj can’t take a joke. Trevor Noah, who hosted the Grammy Awards this Sunday in LA, made a joke about her meeting with Donald Trump last week, part of her transformation into a QAnon-believing MAGA supporter. Related Nicki Minaj wants Don Lemon locked up for reporting on anti-ICE protest “Nicki Minaj is not here, she is not here,” Noah said, getting applause from the crowd. “She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.” Then he did a Trump impression: “Actually, Nicki, I have the biggest a*s. I have it, everybody’s saying it, Nicki. I know they say it’s you, but it’s me. WAP, WAP, WAP. Look at it, baby.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Allegedly.” She included a picture of herself wearing a hat that said, “Nicki was right about everything!” and pictures of Jay-Z with Aaliyah and Beyoncé when they were minors in the 90s. It’s unclear what those pictures have to do with Noah, who moved to the United States in 2011. Noah does not identify as LGBTQ+. Trevor refuses to come out the closet when everyone in the industry knows his boyfriend. Allegedly pic.twitter.com/Um9kIp2Nso— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) February 2, 2026 Minaj continued in her anti-LGBTQ+ tweetstorm yesterday, writing a post that said she believes “your favorite artist has been practicing rituals in a satanic cult where they take babies from other countries & mutilate & kill them as a form of a blood sacrifice to their God. You see, when your master is satan, you must constantly shed blood. However, the JIG IS UP.” This is the story that QAnon followers believe, and they usually assign Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, or other celebrities or Democrats to the role of leader of the secret Satanic pedophile cabal. QAnon is a conspiracy theory with no evidence to support it. Minaj then wrote that “the LGBT has also started seeing through the veil & it has them pissed off.” She said that Democrats are “getting the gay vote by default” and said that gay people “should be able to choose every 4 years like everyone else.” That is already the case. There is no legal requirement that LGBTQ+ people vote for Democrats; it’s just that Democrats tend to be much better on issues important to LGBTQ+ people. It’s notable that Minaj, despite her claimed opposition to sexual abuse, has thrown her support behind Trump, who a jury found had sexually abused author E. Jean Carroll when he forcibly penetrated her in a department store changing room. Also, Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, is a registered sex offender, having served four years in prison for attempted rape. He was arrested in 2020 because he failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to California with Minaj and was sentenced to a year of house arrest. Trump also raged at Noah over a joke Noah made about Trump’s longtime friendship with child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. “That is a Grammy that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah said at the awards show. “Which makes sense, I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out on with Bill Clinton.” Epstein owned an island in the Caribbean where he would allegedly take other wealthy men to abuse trafficked women and girls. “Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast,” Trump posted to Truth Social, denying that he had ever been to Epstein’s island. “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.” “Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!” Noah is not married and has said that “society has deemed me a loser” because of that. “Being married is like you’ve served,” he said on his What Now? podcast in 2024. “There’s a certain honor that comes with it. If you’ve never been married, there’s this weird thing that people do to you where they treat you like you’re not a serious person in life.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha’s Instagram following skyrockets after World Cup heroics against Spain
Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha has become a global sensation, with his Instagram following skyrocketing from 50,000 to over six million after a heroic performance against Spain. The 40-year-old produced an incredible display in Monday’s 0-0 draw in Atlanta, which saw his online presence surge to 6.3 million by Tuesday morning. This meteoric rise means only five England players in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad – Jude Bellingham, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice – boast a larger online presence. "That is insane, I didn’t expect that," Vozinha told the Men in Blazers podcast of his increased social media following. He further expressed his disbelief, stating: "Things run fast on Instagram, but I didn’t believe it. I still don’t believe, but it is what it is. Thank you to everyone."Vozinha delivered an outstanding performance on Monday (Getty)Vozinha made seven crucial saves to deny Spain, one of the favourites to win the competition. His masterclass also saw him become the oldest goalkeeper in World Cup history to keep a clean sheet on his tournament debut. The only goalkeeper over 40 years of age to have made more saves in a World Cup match was Pat Jennings, with 10 for Northern Ireland against Brazil in 1986.The goalkeeper's viral fame has highlighted Cape Verde, a nation of 10 volcanic islands off the coast of West Africa, which is the third smallest country by population (around 500,000) to qualify for a World Cup. Vozinha reflected on his impact: "The World Cup is the big stage in the whole of football and it is every kid’s dream to be here one day. When we inspire the next generation it is always good. To hear kids say one day they want to be Vozinha, I am very grateful."Cape Verde return to action against Uruguay in Miami on Sunday before their final group match against Saudi Arabia on Friday 26 June.

Kellen Moore has big plans for Saints WR Devaughn Vele in Year 2
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Devaughn Vele could be in for a much larger role after finishing the 2025 season on a high note. Saints head coach Kellen Moore spoke highly of Vele at organized team activities (OTAs), and it appears New Orleans will utilize him more strongly in 2026.“I would just say he finished off the season really well,” Moore said. “He’s healthy. He’s got a really defined role.”Vele was traded to the Saints from the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2025 season opener in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. The last-minute trade made it difficult for him to establish himself and settle into the offense right away. It was a potential missed opportunity for a Saints offense that could’ve utilized another weapon.“That was something we had to navigate as the season went on — him getting into the fold — and probably something that I took reflection on, trying to get him in that situation sooner last year,” Moore said. Now, it appears that the Saints have a clearer plan for Vele, who gives the Saints another receiving option in an offense that already features Chris Olave, Jordyn Tyson, Juwan Johnson, Travis Etienne Jr., and a young quarterback in Tyler Shough. If he can build on the way he ended last season, Vele could become one of the more quietly important players in the NFC South.“He’s got a great role now,” Moore said, “And I think it’s going to be a really awesome opportunity for him.”For a Saints offense looking to take a step forward, the 28-year-old Vele’s development is something to watch closely. Moore’s stamp of approval makes it clear that he’ll have a real role entering training camp. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: NFL News: Saints WR Devaugn Vele could emerge in 2026 with bigger role

England call up surprise choice to replace Tino Livramento in World Cup squad
Trevoh Chalobah has been called up to replace the injured Tino Livramento in England’s World Cup squad. Livramento’s injury is an early blow for Thomas Tuchel’s preparations for the tournament, coming just one day before the Three Lions’ opener against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday. Tuchel was able to replace Newcastle full-back Livramento in the squad with a deadline of 9pm (BST) on Tuesday – 24 hours before England’s first game of the tournament – and Chelsea defender Chalobah is on his way to the United States. Trevoh Chalobah has been called up to England’s World Cup squad (Getty)Chalobah is not expected to be involved against Croatia, but will be available for subsequent group matches against Ghana and Panama. Livramento, 23, who can play at right back or left back, was seen as a back-up option for Reece James and Nico O’Reilly, who are set to start against Croatia. Nonetheless, losing Livramento’s versatility ahead of the biggest World Cup ever will be tough for Tuchel to take. Other options at wing back already in the squad include Jarrell Quansah, Ezri Konsa and Djed Spence. Centre back Dan Burn can also fill in at left back. As for who has taken Livramento’s place in the 26-man squad, Chalobah has been called up over Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has not made a Tuchel squad since last summer.Fifa regulations state that a player can be replaced in the 26-man squad up to 24 hours before that side’s first game of the tournament, but only from the 55-man “provisional” list submitted before the tournament. Tino Livramento has been ruled out of the World Cup (Getty)Chalobah, who played under Tuchel at Chelsea, only has one England cap to his name after making his debut in a defeat to Senegal last June. The 26-year-old made 34 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season, amid a disappointing campaign for the Blues who finished 10th in the Premier League table. For Livramento, it is a hammer blow. The World Cup was his first major tournament call-up and the defender has five caps to his name. He also came on in England’s warm-up win against New Zealand 10 days ago. England’s first game is against Croatia, who they lost to in the 2018 semi-finals, in Dallas on Wednesday at 9pm BST.

Multiple arrests as FBI disrupts ‘planned attacks’ targeting White House UFC show, director says

(AP Photo/Allison Robbert, File)2026-06-16T12:00:47Z WASHINGTON (AP) — Law enforcement officials disrupted “planned attacks” meant to target the UFC cage-fighting show staged at the White House this past weekend, and multiple people were in custody, FBI Director Kash Patel said on Tuesday. The nature of the potential threat was not immediately disclosed, with additional details expected to be released once charges are unsealed later Tuesday.Five people were arrested from states including Ohio, Missouri and California, said a law enforcement official familiar with the matter. The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss information that was not yet public. The FBI learned about the possible threat on June 10, four days before the mixed martial arts extravaganza on the White House’s South Lawn, “and thanks to the rapid action of the FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold,” Patel said in a post on X on Tuesday morning. The Secret Service “worked around the clock to identify those responsible and hold them accountable,” Director Sean Curran said in a separate statement. President Donald Trump, who celebrated his 80th birthday at the UFC event on Sunday, sought to tie the fights to larger celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Hackers Are Hijacking Entire Roblox Games Now
Hackers have long targeted Roblox accounts to steal a player’s valuable items, which can sometimes be worth many tens of thousands of very real dollars. But that wasn’t enough for some. Now, hackers are taking over Roblox developer accounts and stealing ownership of entire video games and digital worlds.Multiple Roblox developers—that is, people who make games for others to play on the Roblox platform, and sometimes make their livelihood doing so—told 404 Media about this happening to them. In multiple cases, the developers said Roblox support did not help them get their games back until 404 Media contacted Roblox for comment.Ioannis Matziaris said his two 20-year-old sons spent five years building a game called “The Shadow Network” with more than 12,000 members. In April, someone approached Christos, one of the sons, with a job offer and convinced him to run a particular file. It was actually malware.“Within hours, they had taken ownership of our entire Roblox group, transferred our main game to a new group they created, and stolen our Robux,” Matziaris said. He said the family contacted Roblox support and filed a DMCA takedown request with Roblox and got no response. 💡Do you know anything else about hacking on Roblox? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at joseph.404 or send me an email at joseph@404media.co.“This isn't just beaming,” Matziaris said, referring to when hackers “beam” or hack a victim to steal their items. “This is an organized group that steals games, republishes them, and recruits unsuspecting developers to build on stolen work.”Roblox is much more than a game to many people; it is a business. While Roblox the company maintains the Roblox platform itself, essentially anyone can make a game built on top of it. Some of these games go massively viral, like Grow a Garden, which isn’t just a massively popular Roblox game but a huge video game in its own right. In turn, developers of these games monetize their creations with in-game transactions. Some Roblox developers make millions of dollars and open dedicated studios. It’s not entirely clear what the hackers planned to do with the games, be that just steal the Robux or try to monetize their popularity. But you can see why a hacker might want to commandeer a game for themselves. Matziaris said that after the hack, Roblox denied the family’s claim over the game because “there is no indication that group ownership was transferred due to your account being compromised.” When 404 Media contacted Roblox for comment, the company changed its stance. “We were troubled to hear of this specific incident and have restored the game to its owner,” the company said in a statement. Roblox added it has “several safety mechanisms in place, including Enhanced Protection, the most secure version of 2-step verification, which is designed to eliminate ‘point-of-authentication’ attacks like phishing and credential stuffing. Account Session Protection is also enabled by default for all users and helps secure web sessions by binding them to a specific device. Unfortunately none of these methods can completely eliminate the risk of account theft, particularly when bad actors convince users to run malicious software on their own devices or execute untrusted code. We continue to work on new ways to prevent these occurrences and actively encourage users to follow security best practices, including not clicking on links or downloading anything from unknown senders.” Matziaris’s family is not the only person impacted. Mohamed Kaparoza, another developer, told 404 Media he was hacked “after I was contacted through Discord by individuals claiming they wanted to hire me as a project manager for their game. During the conversation, they asked me to install a Python package called ‘robase,’ which they described as part of their database/project tools.”“Shortly after installing it, I was logged out of my Roblox account on both my PC and Phone. I also noticed my Discord account was compromised around the same time. Afterwards, my 2-step verification and passkey were changed without my permission, and my game/group were transferred to another user. I never received any notification about a login from a new location or device before this happened,” he added. Kaparoza said Roblox has not returned his game.Jovan Rai, another developer, said they were also offered a project manager role and asked to run a file. Ironically, this time the attackers presented themselves as Cheesy Studios and working on the game The Shadow Network, which belongs to the Matziaris brothers. The hackers stole ownership of Rai’s game, called Overcoding Overseers. “The game was generating ~10,000 Robux daily, had reached 1,100 concurrent users, and was my primary, only source of income. I am a minor, a 15-year-old Canadian who made this game independently,” Rai said.Rai told 404 Media he had been “fighting” Roblox support for more than 30 days. Roblox only restored his game after 404 Media contacted Roblox for comment. When 404 Media relayed details of Kaparoza and Rai’s cases, Roblox said in a statement “The Roblox support team investigates all claims and restores ownership if they can validate it.”

Study: Reading For Fun Down Among Schoolchildren
New Education Department data found a double-digit decline in the number of school-aged children who read for fun almost every day, with the share of 13-year-olds who regularly read for pleasure down almost half since 2012. What do you think? “Nothing a deeply obscene fan fiction can’t fix.” Kimberly Sanchez, Doll Dresser “The sooner children learn to stop taking any pleasure in life, the better.” Andy Briscoe, Unemployed “Books aren’t for fun, they’re for warning children about rabies.” Frank Gatt, Box Carrier The post Study: Reading For Fun Down Among Schoolchildren appeared first on The Onion.

Shams Charania Casually Tells Colleagues He Really Looking Forward To Breaking Michael Jordan’s Death
CHICAGO—Anticipating the announcement would rank among the biggest scoops of his career, ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania is said to have casually mentioned to his colleagues Tuesday that he was really looking forward to breaking the news of Michael Jordan’s eventual death. “When MJ dies, I’ll be right there with a ‘breaking news’ post on all the socials—it’ll probably start trending immediately,” Charania told his reportedly silent coworkers in the ESPN break room, adding that he had been hard at work cultivating sources within various hospitals and hospices in the Jupiter, FL, area in order to ensure he had exclusive access to the six-time NBA Finals MVP’s death certificate and autopsy photos. “I’ll probably keep it real classy and straightforward. Just an announcement of when and where he died, with a thing at the end that’s like, ‘Men die, but legends live forever.’ Or maybe I can get ‘Just do it’ in there somehow. I don’t know, I’m still workshopping it. Luckily, I have a few years to iron this out.” At press time, sources confirmed Charania had opened Canva to work on the custom graphic he was designing to accompany Jordan’s death announcement, a stark, black-and-white image reading simply, “23.” The post Shams Charania Casually Tells Colleagues He Really Looking Forward To Breaking Michael Jordan’s Death appeared first on The Onion.

Study: More Americans Foregoing College In Favor Of Letting The Carnival Sort Them Out
COLUMBIA, MO—Surveying a wide cross section of Americans aged 18 to 24, a new study published Tuesday by researchers at the University of Missouri found that more Americans were foregoing college in favor of letting the carnival sort them out. “In a dire job market like this, it doesn’t make sense to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a degree, not when I can get experience right now running the Zipper out on the midway,” said recent high school graduate Michael Todd, who described his plan to visit backwater towns and learn practical lessons from a traveling band of misfits and ex-cons as they operate amusement rides across the country. “I could spend the next four years in college and start at the bottom of the career totem pole, or I could spend those four years acquiring real life skills while presiding over the balloon and dart game. I’ve already learned so much about marks from One Tooth Mitch.” Experts confirmed that while artificial intelligence has begun to render many jobs obsolete, it will never replicate the human capacity to quickly break down and reassemble a Tilt-A-Whirl. Daring Fusion Restaurant Mixes Texan, Mexican Flavors
AMARILLO, TX—Expressing astonishment over the unorthodox combination of the two distinct cuisines, local customers described the remarkable culinary innovation they experienced Thursday at the grand opening of a daring new fusion restaurant that mixes Texan and Mexican flavors. “It sounds kind of gimmicky, but somehow the flavors work together,” said local resident Harrison Peters, who was surprised the sharp, herby flavors of northern Mexico and the beefy, cheesy decadence of southern Texas worked together on the same plate. “I’d never dream of dipping tortilla chips in queso. They have a burrito loaded with a wild mishmash of sour cream, beans, and guac, but it tastes incredible. This place is taking modern cuisine to unimaginable new heights.” The customers went on to express shock after discovering tortillas made of flour instead of corn. Golfweek says this Lansing-area course is among the best in Michigan
Golfweek recently ranked the best public access courses in each state and named Bath Township's Eagle Eye one of the top 20 you can play in Michigan.Arcadia Bluffs, in northwest Lower Peninsula, and Greywalls, near Marquette in the Upper Peninsula, topped the list, but you can find great golf in every corner of the state, according the Golfweek ranking.Eagle Eye, part of the venue that includes Hawk Hollow, Timber Ridge, Woodside Golf Course, The Falcon and Little Hawk, ranked eighth in Michigan. The course has received numerous accolades over the years by such publications as Golf Advisor, Golf Digest, and Michigan Golf, among others.Chris Lutzke, in collaboration with Pete Dye, designed the links-style golf course with of five sets of tees that stretches to 7,300 yards. In 2016, Eagle Eye was the host to the 105th Michigan Amateur and the course will host the event again this year from June 29 to July 3.The course also has hosted the 2020 men's NCAA regional and 2023 event, with Michigan State University hosting. The course's rates run from $65 for nine holes during the week to $160 with a cart on weekends — pricey, perhaps, but well below the maximum rates of Arcadia Bluffs ($285), Greywalls ($235) and Forest Dunes ($215).Golfweek’s Best was created by the magazine's nationwide network of raters. The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce all of Golfweek’s Best course rankings."The courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time – no membership required," Golfweek writer Jason Lusk said.Michigan's best public access coursesKEY: (m) modern, built in 1960 or after; (c) classic, built before 1960. 1. Jets secure their offensive line with extension for starter
If you're looking to put together a team that can win championships in the NFL, it's important to start with a strong offensive line. Perhaps that's why the Jets are making big offseason moves in the trenches. It was reported on Monday that the Jets have agreed to terms on a four-year extension for offensive lineman Joe Tippmann. The new deal will be worth $66.4 million, according to the reports. The #Jets and standout G Joe Tippmann have agree to terms on a big, new 4-year extension, sources say. One of the game’s top young guards gets paid, as the #Jets are set to lock up another core player. pic.twitter.com/5gdXiQK4dJ— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 15, 2026Tippmann has been with the Jets for three seasons after being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he made 16 appearances and 14 starts for the Jets and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team for his efforts. His rookie performance earned him a starting role at the center position in 2024, where he started all 17 games. He would then move on to start at right guard in 2025, where he would once again start every contest. With the Jets having both their starting offensive tackles, each a first-round pick, still on their rookie contracts, locking down Tippmann helps secure the franchise's offensive line future. Tippmann, who was approaching the final season on his rookie contract, will now be in place for the Jets through the 2030 season. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Jets secure their offensive line with extension for starter

Kayshon Boutte precedent could help Brendan Sorsby avoid a suspension
With quarterback Brendan Sorsby intending to apply for the NFL's supplemental draft, some are watching and waiting to see whether the NFL will welcome him to the ranks of professional football. Two key questions have arisen, from the NFL's perspective. First, will the league accept Sorsby into the supplemental draft? Second, will Commissioner Roger Goodell impose a suspension on Sorsby for underage (and thus illegal) gambling and/or for betting on Indiana games while he was on the Indiana roster (but not playing)? The Terrelle Pryor precedent has caused some in league circles to believe the league will try to simulate the NCAA's punishment — basically, no football at all in 2026. In 2011, the league placed a five-game suspension on former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, mirroring the suspension that was imposed on Pryor by the NCAA.Then there's the case of Kayshon Boutte. Earlier this year, he wrote an article for the Players’ Tribune regarding his gambling addiction while in college.“I’d wake up early in the morning, and the first thing I’d do was bet,” Boutte wrote. “I’d stay up late and bet. All day. All night. I had insomnia, so if I woke up in the middle of the night, phone next to the bed, I’d bet. Any little money I had, it was going straight to FanDuel. . . . I knew I was addicted."Boutte said he started gambling after suffering an injury at LSU that left him unable to play. Betting was his way of replacing the sense of competition. He made more than 8,900 bets, with at least six bets placed on LSU. The wagering continued until at least one week after Boutte was drafted in 2023. (Boutte didn't turn 21 until May 7, 2023.)None of that came to light until after Boutte's rookie season with the Patriots, when he was charged with underage betting in Louisiana. The charges were later dismissed. Most importantly, the NFL took no action against Boutte.Of course, Boutte had completed a full season in the NFL by the time the story broke of his underage betting habits. If the league had suspended him then, the league would have been drawing more attention to the fact that Boutte's behavior had slipped through the cracks at a time when the NFL could have, in theory, known about his betting issues. With Sorsby, the issue has come to light before his NFL career begins. Based on the fact that the NFL did nothing to Boutte, the timing of the disclosure shouldn't matter. That may not stop the league from doing whatever it believes it has to do, given the intense focus on the Sorsby situation — and given that multiple gambling scandals have emerged in other sports since Boutte's arrest in January 2024.
