Men's Team City to start 2026/27 Premier League season at home to AFC Bournemouth Then there were his brilliant last day strikes against both Aston Villa (2022) and West Ham (2024) which were key in helping City seal victory to clinch the Premier League title. And, above all, there was the iconic strike in Istanbul in June 2023 which fired City to a 1-0 UEFA Champions League final victory over Internazionale and into history as we sealed the Treble. The man for the big occasion.Assists: 30A supreme operator both tactically and technically, Rodri’s vision and game awareness has meant he has also weighed in with numerous key assists for his colleagues in Blue. While his power and precision has meant he has been crucial in thwarting opposition danger and creating the fulcrum from which City can launch attacks, such is his quality, he is also a big threat in an offensive role.Finding the right moment at the right time to open up opportunities for his team mates is another vital facet of his game. Features Watch: City’s top 10 goals in 2025/26 That figure would have been even higher but for the fact the Spaniard’s return and match minutes were carefully monitored following his return in 2025 from the knee injury that saw him sidelined for a lengthy spell from the autumn of 2024.However, at the big moments when the pressure and intensity is at its most intense, Rodri remains one of the pivotal parts of City’s armoury.Trophies won: 13Rodri and success have become regular companions ever since he made the move to the Etihad in the summer of 2019.All told, Rodri has helped the Club amass a remarkable total of 13 major trophies in that time. It’s a haul that features four Premier Leagues, three League Cups, two FA Cups, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.A serial winner in ever way! Features City prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Career Games: 429Including his previous spells with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, Rodri has already well surpassed the 400-game tally. From the moment he made his professional senior debut with Villarreal back in 2015 as a 19-year-old, Rodri’s huge potential was already apparent. And across the huge demands of both La Liga as well as the Premier League and on the continental stage, the holding midfielder has proved a player of a rare and true distinction.Career Goals: 33Goals are far from the defining currency for a player deployed in Rodri’s position. But the fact he he has weighed in with such an impressive tally only serves to demonstrate the Spaniard’s quality when opportunity arises in front of goal.SpainGames played: 64 Goals: 4Not just a supreme operator on the domestic stage, Rodri’s impact has also been felt across the international spectrum with Spain.Currently a key part of the Spnaish side who are tipped by many to lift the 2026 World Cup, Rodri was a fundamental figure in the Spain side that won the 2024 European Championships. Now he will be striving to help his nation achieve what would be their second World Cup success.City Magazine: World Cup special available now!Featuring Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland, Omar Marmoush and a greatest ever World Cup Manchester Best XI - get reading now! SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDodgers provide major update on injured sluggerThe Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in MLB once again, despite dealing with key injuries this season. According to a report from Katie Woo of The Athletic, the team may be getting one of its most important hitters back sooner rather than later. After spending more than three weeks on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, outfielder Teoscar Hernández is set to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A on Tuesday. The development marks a significant step in his recovery and could put him on track to rejoin the Dodgers before the end of the month. According to manager Dave Roberts, Hernández has a chance to be activated when Los Angeles opens a series against the Athletics on June 29.MORE: MLB Power RankingsKey Bat Moving Closer to ReturnApr 15, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernández runs the bases after hitting a home run in the sixth inning against the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesHernández’s absence has been noticeable, especially considering how well he was swinging the bat before suffering the injury in late May.The veteran outfielder was in the middle of a productive stretch at the plate, hitting .325 during the month while collecting seven extra-base hits. His combination of power and run production has been a major part of the Dodgers’ offensive success, making his return an important boost for a lineup that already ranks among the best in baseball.A successful rehab assignment would likely be the final hurdle before Hernández is cleared to return to the major league roster.Reinforcements on the WayMay 23, 2025; New York City, New York, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernandez (37) follows through on an RBI single against the New York Mets during the thirteenth inning at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesDespite dealing with injuries throughout the season, the Dodgers have continued to find ways to win games and remain among the top teams in MLB.Still, getting Hernández back could not come at a better time. The club is currently without catcher Will Smith, another key middle-of-the-order bat who remains on the injured list. Adding Hernández back into the lineup would help offset some of that lost production and provide additional protection throughout the batting order. His return would also restore stability to the Dodgers’ outfield, where he has served as the club’s regular left fielder.Dodgers Positioned for Another BoostThe Dodgers have proven they can survive injuries, but championship teams are always better when their stars are healthy. With Hernández now preparing to return to game action, Los Angeles appears to be one step closer to getting a dangerous power bat back in the lineup. If all goes well during his rehab assignment, Dodgers fans may not have to wait much longer before seeing him back in the middle of the order.— Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThree reasons why OU baseball will and won't beat North Carolina in CWS Game 3OMAHA, NE — Oklahoma baseball will play a Game 3 on Monday. The Sooners fell to No. 5 North Carolina 6-2 in Game 2, which evened the best-of-three series at one apiece, after OU handled the Tar Heels 9-3 in Game 1 on Saturday. After striking out the side in the first and second innings on 30 pitches, Sooners starter Xander Mercurius allowed three runs in the third and threw 53 pitches. Mercurius allowed five hits, four earned runs and three walks with eight strikeouts in four innings of work in the loss. Now, OU will turn to freshman Nick Wesloski on the mound for a win-or-go-home contest.More: OU baseball has made so much look easy, but winning College World Series vs UNC won't beWhy OU baseball will win CWS title over UNCSooners have the armsThe good news for Sooners coach Skip Johnson and Co. is they have the upper hand when it comes to available pitchers.OU will start freshman right-hander Nick Wesloski, who struck out four and allowed only one run in 5 2/3 innings in the CWS semifinals against Georgia. If Wesloski can eat up a majority of innings, it’d be a good sign for the Sooners.Johnson has an impressive arsenal of arms that have limited wear and tear still available including relievers Jackson Cleveland, Gavyn Jones and LJ Mercurius. Cleveland has thrown 1 2/3 innings during the College World Series, while Jones has 2 1/3 under his belt and Mercurius has seven. It wouldn’t be all that shocking if freshman ace Cord Rager, who allowed only three earned runs with five strikeouts in five innings in Game 1, is available out of the bullpen in Game 3.No word on Kadyn Leon, who has been day-to-day.Offense gets back to scorching waysEntering Game 2, OU owned the hottest offense in the nation. The Sooners hit the most homers and extra-base hits through four games in CWS history since the move to the Chuck. OU recorded only four hits in Game 2. It used two more pitchers than that. The Sooners will need the versions of Dasan Harris, Deiten Lachance and Jason Walk they’ve been getting over the past three weeks.Skip Johnson, “yesterday is dead” mentalitySkip Johnson is one of the most respected coaches in the country. He’s led OU this far — one game away from being crowned national champions — after it lost its last four regular-season series and finished with a losing conference record. With the Sooners having the pitching advantage, it’d be hard to bet against Johnson in this spot. However, North Carolina also has several reasons to feel good heading into Game 3.More: OU baseball prediction vs UNC in Game 3 of College World Series finalsWhy UNC baseball will win CWS title over OUGame 3 history favors Tar HeelsThere have been 12 Game 3s played in the history of the CWS. Caden Glauber, a true freshman, dominated OU out of the bullpen, allowing only one hit and two walks with eight strikeouts in five innings. You have to think Glauber will be available for coach Scott Forbes on Monday.Momentum is a funny thing. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrowns work out UFL defenderHOUSTON, TEXAS - APRIL 26: Ron Stone Jr. #56 of the Columbus Aviators tackles Nolan Henderson #15 of the Houston Gamblers in the first quarter of a game at Shell Energy Stadium on April 26, 2026 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Jack Gorman/UFL/Getty Images) | Getty Images The United Football League (UFL) season concluded with the “United Bowl” on June 13, and all players then became free agents on June 15. The UFL is set up with all of its athletes signing one-year deals, and the season concludes in time for its players to be signed to NFL training camps. The Cleveland Browns recently worked out a UFL player.RELATED: 3 UFL PLAYERS THE BROWNS SHOULD CONSIDERLast year, 190 UFL players got workout invitations, with 160 signing training camp contracts. In Week 1, 47 players were on the main rosters, the practice squad, or some sort of injury list. So far, 23 UFL players have been signed to NFL rosters. The Browns worked out linebacker Ron Stone, Jr., from the Columbus Aviators. On the surface, bringing in another linebacker might seem to be a futile function. The Browns currently have in the LB room Carson Schwesinger, free agent signee Quincy Williams, Winston Reid, rookie Justin Jefferson, Bookie Watson, Easton Mascarenas-Arnold, Reid Carrico, and Edefuan Ulofoshio. Those are great numbers. Notice that JOK’s name has been dropped from the roster. However, Cleveland usually keeps only six linebackers each year going into Week 1.Competition in training camp makes all players better. It pushes the starter not to assume that his job is safe. And sometimes, the new guy will beat out the incumbent, and a new regime will begin. Plus, all GMs have a registry of free agents sorted by position. This comes into play when a guy is injured, and the team needs a replacement right away.Stone, Jr. (6’-3”, 257 pounds) had an elite career while at Washington State and was named First Team All-Pac-12 Conference in his sophomore year (2021), Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 Conference (2023) as a senior, and Second Team All-Pac-12 Conference after his junior year (2022). He finished with 202 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, and five forced fumbles. His father, Ron Stone, played 13 years as an offensive guard in the NFL, so he has lineage.A few Columbus #Aviators received NFL workouts, via Press Release:– WR Antwane "Juice" Wells, #Falcons– OG Chris Glaser, #Cowboys– DE Ron Stone Jr., #Browns– P Brad Robbins, #Cardinals— James Larsen (@JamesLarsenPFN) June 16, 2026Stone, Jr. went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft and was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders and released on the final cutdown. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'A baptism of fire' for Rose - Fletcher"A baptism of fire" for new manager Marco Rose is what Steve Fletcher thinks of Bournemouth's opening fixtures. The Cherries are set to travel to Manchester City on the first day of the new campaign, then host Everton, followed by a visit to Newcastle, before hosting Brentford and Liverpool.Former Bournemouth forward Steve Fletcher thinks the first game might be the "best time" to play City, following the World Cup.Speaking to BBC Radio Solent Fletcher said: "For Marco Rose our new manager, that's a bit of a baptism of fire but we're going to have to go to these boys eventually anyway."We've got Liverpool away on the last game of the season as well so you've got to play them."It might be the best time to play Man City, they've had a lot of players out in the World Cup. I'm trying to think of reasons here that we could turn them over. We've done it once in our history and we're a good team."Man City are full of superstars, I understand that, but if we can catch them cold on the first game of the season, it's going to be on TV, it's on a Sunday, a new manager."We've got to play them eventually, so let's get the season underway."Listen to the full conversation on BBC Sounds or by clicking play on the clip above0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSavea new All Blacks captain as Fineanganofo in squadArdie Savea has 106 Test caps for New Zealand [Getty Images]Ardie Savea has been made the All Blacks captain in coach Dave Rennie's first squad announcement. The 32-year-old takes over from Scott Barrett, who skippered the side during Scott Robertson's tenure, but has been sidelined with back surgery."I believe this role is about empowering everyone in the group to be the best that they can be - from the leadership, to the players and wider staff," said loose-forward Savea."A united All Blacks team has the power to unite a nation. And we are going to need all five million Kiwis to get in behind us as we walk towards the challenges that are waiting for us over the next 16 months."Uncapped wing Fehi Fineanganofo, who scored the 17th try of his Super Rugby campaign at the weekend as the Hurricanes lifted the title with a final victory over the Chiefs, is also named in the 34-strong group for this summer's Nations Championship action. The 23-year-old's move to Newcastle Red Bulls next season, which was announced in January, has been cast into doubt with the suggestion the player could buy himself out of the deal now his form has carried him into contention for Test rugby and a place at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.New Zealand only pick domestic-based players, unless they are on an approved sabbatical stint at an overseas club, and Fineanganofo's proposed Newcastle switch is an independent move."I think that's the process that he's going through, but what we know is he's contracted here 'til November," said Rennie when asked about the player's long-term eligibility."His form has been irresistible, and we're keen to name him. So, yeah, I guess he'll work through that in time."Fineanganofo and Hurricanes team-mate Josh Moorby jointly set a new record for tries scored in a single Super Rugby season with 17 [Getty Images]Rieko Ioane, who has reached the end of a six-month sabbatical with Leinster, was the highest-profile omission. However, Rennie suggested the versatile 29-year-old could be back involved when New Zealand's 'Greatest Rivalry' tour of South Africa, which begins in August and will involve a larger squad. The All Blacks kick off their Nations Championship campaign against France in Christchurch on 4 July, before matches against Italy and Ireland on the following weekends.France were criticised by some in New Zealand for resting their stars and sending a second-string side to tour the country last summer. But it appears coach Fabien Galthie is planning to travel with a stronger selection this year.Bordeaux-Begles trio Matthieu Jalibert, Maxime Lucu and Damien Penaud have been called into France's preparations over the weekend, while it is reported by L'Equipe that scrum-half Antoine Dupont, the side's regular skipper, will join up after Toulouse's Top 14 final against Montpellier on Saturday.New Zealand squad for summer's Nations ChampionshipForwards: Aumua, Taylor, Taukei'aho, De Groot, Bower, Numia, Lomax, Newell, Tosi, Vaa'i, Tuipulotu, Lord, Darry, Lakai, Parker, Savea (capt), Sititi, Jacobson, Segner.Backs: Roigard, Ratima, Preston, Love, Barrett, McKenzie, Barrett, Tupaea, Proctor, Lienert-Brown, Clarke, Fineanganofo, Carter, Moorby, Jordan.Listen: Sport's Strangest Crimes - BloodgateListen to the latest Rugby Union Weekly podcast0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM5 Colts veterans potentially on roster hot seat in training campFollowing offseason programs for the Indianapolis Colts, there are a handful of veteran players who could be on the hot seat entering training camp.As we've stated before, what takes place during OTAs and minicamp won't be what ultimately determines who makes the final roster or what playing time looks like. Those decisions will largely be based on what takes place during training camp. That said, what happens during offseason programs is certainly noteworthy and can shed light on where things stand heading into the summer. So, given what we know right now, these five Colts' veterans could find themselves on the roster bubble during cutdowns.OT Blake FreelandThe Colts don't have a ton of experienced depth along the offensive line, and Freeland does provide that, to a degree. However, 701 of his 724 career snaps came in 2023. The following season, he took on a backup role, while Freeland missed all of last year due to injury. With Luke Tenuta back and Nolan Rucci a UDFA who could make a roster push, Freeland is not roster lock by any means.TE Will MalloryMallory has filled the TE4 role in recent years and will likely do so again. The other tight ends on the depth chart behind him are Sean McKeon and Carson Towt. That said, after playing just 109 offensive snaps over the last two seasons -- including only 16 in 2025 -- Mallory is expendable, whether that be McKeon emerging or the Colts looking elsewhere during roster cutdowns. I also don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the Colts roster just three tight ends and utilize practice squad elevations to bolster the depth chart on game days.IDL Jerry Tillery and Derrick NnadiThese two are in the same boat. Although both were signed as free agents this offseason, their contracts are very easy for the Colts to get out of, with there being little guaranteed money. Between DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Colby Wooden, and Adetomiwa Adebawore, that's already four potential roster spots accounted for. If the Colts keep just five tackles, that would then leave one of these players on the outside looking in.CB Cam Taylor-BrittLike Tillery and Nnadi, Taylor-Britt was a free agent signing but has a contract that the Colts can move on from. While he has played under Lou Anarumo previously, Taylor-Britt is at a crowded position group as well. Taylor-Britt, along with Mekhi Blackmon, Jaylon Jones, Johnathan Edwards, and Cameron Mitchell, are competing for two or maybe three roster spots. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Colts 53-man roster: 5 veterans whose spot is potentially in jeopardy0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

APNEWS.COMFormer Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan dies at 100Economist Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006, is seen in his office in Washington, Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite, file)2026-06-22T11:49:05Z WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan has died at the age of 100. He died on Monday from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, according to his wife, Andrea Mitchell. “To me he was my husband, who shaped my life from our very first date in 1984,” Mitchell said. “He had ‘irrational exuberance’ for baseball, the Washington Commanders, tennis, golf, and music, especially jazz. He will be remembered for his brilliance and his kindness. Being his life partner was the joy of my life.”In his 18½ years at the helm of the Fed, Greenspan presided over a sustained era of American growth and prosperity, yet one that ended with devastating consequences in 2008, two years after he had left the central bank.Greenspan was so respected during his many years as head of the world’s most influential central bank that by the time he stepped down in 2006, he was widely celebrated as the “Oracle’’ and “Maestro.’’ Greenspan’s reputation suffered a serious setback however, when the American housing market collapsed, igniting a global financial crisis that nearly toppled the U.S. banking system and plunged the economy into the worst recession since the 1930s. Critics pinned much of the blame for the crisis on Greenspan’s easy-money policies and on what they believed was an overexuberant faith in lightly supervised financial markets. Greenspan himself later acknowledged that “I made a mistake’’ in assuming the nation’s banks, whose stability undergirds the financial system and the entire economy, could essentially regulate themselves. Read More Full story:Alan Greenspan, who as leader of the U.S. Federal Reserve helped engineer a sustained era of American growth and prosperity that came to a close with devastating global financial consequences two years after he had left the central bank, died xxxx xxxday. He was XXX.(Add circumstances, confirmation) In his 18½ years at the Fed, Greenspan presided over a breathtaking surge in stock prices and a 10-year economic boom that began in March 1991. He was widely celebrated as the “Maestro’’ and the “Oracle,” a virtuoso who nurtured America’s economic well-being and whose nearly every utterance was parsed for clues as to where interest rates, the economy and the financial markets might be headed. Greenspan’s intentions were so intensely theorized that it gave birth to new Fed folklore: The “Briefcase Indicator.” A stuffed briefcase carried into Fed meetings implied changes may be afoot because Greenspan carried with him charts and research to make his point. Greenspan’s reputation suffered almost as soon as he left the Fed in 2006, however. American housing prices began to slide, then accelerated into a dizzying plunge that inflicted huge losses for banks, pension funds and other investors that had bet heavily on real estate. As housing values plummeted, millions of Americans, many of them stuck with outsize mortgage debt, lost homes to foreclosure. The spiraling financial crisis sent the U.S. economy sinking into the Great Recession of 2007-2009, the worst downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. The crisis in the U.S. spread overseas rapidly, leading to a debt crisis for nations in Europe and it led Beijing to engineer a massive government stimulus package to stabilize its economy. In hindsight, critics assigned much of the blame for the crisis to Greenspan’s easy-money policies, his faith in lightly supervised financial markets and his lax attention to the reckless risk-taking that had flourished in the financial system under his watch. Later, Greenspan admitted that “I made a mistake’’ in assuming that the nation’s banks, whose stability undergirds the financial system and the entire economy, could essentially regulate themselves.Until then, however, it seemed that Greenspan could do no wrong. Not only in the United States but across the world, he was regarded with a mixture of reverence and awe. Many even openly dreaded the day when he would leave the Fed.Investors hung on his sometimes inscrutable observations. In the most well-known such remark, Greenspan sent financial markets reeling on Dec. 5, 1996, when he suggested with just two words — “irrational exuberance” — that stock prices were too high. Mindful of his power to move markets, Greenspan typically resorted to obfuscation. At times, he even satirized his habit of doing so. “I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant,” Greenspan once told a befuddled congressional committee.Born in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, the young Greenspan was a math whiz who was trotted out by his mother to show off for visitors.“I was a prop at parties,’’ he said in a 2007 interview with PBS NewsHour. A Julliard School dropout, he worked as a professional musician in his teens, playing clarinet and saxophone alongside the future jazz great Stan Getz — a humbling experience that persuaded the young Greenspan to seek another line of work. He pursued undergraduate and graduate study in economics at New York University, eventually earning a doctorate there. For most of three decades, he ran an economic consulting firm. During the 1950s, he became a disciple of the libertarian philosopher Ayn Rand, who stuck him with the nickname the “Undertaker’’ for his dark clothes and quiet bearing. When Greenspan was sworn in as President Gerald Ford’s chief economic adviser in 1974, Rand stood beside him.President Ronald Reagan tapped Greenspan to run the Fed in 1987. He was tested almost immediately. On Oct. 19, 1987, which came to be known as “Black Monday,” the stock market suffered the worst one-day percentage loss in American history just two months into his term. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 22.6% of its value rapidly for reasons that weren’t entirely clear then, and remain opaque to this day.Greenspan won credit for helping restore calm and stability. He assured Wall Street that the Fed would supply as much money to the financial system as was needed to restore calm. Stocks recovered, and the American economy emerged unscathed by the market crash.Greenspan’s crisis management skills were tested again in 1997 and 1998, when a financial crisis in Asia threatened to spread economic devastation around the globe. Under Greenspan, the Fed arranged an emergency loan to Thailand in the early stages of the crisis and persuaded U.S. banks to roll over short-term loans to a teetering South Korea.During his tenure at the Fed, Greenspan drew praise for presiding over what was at the time the longest economic expansion in American history — a 10-year streak of prosperity that ran from March 1991 to March 2001. Over that time, the nation’s unemployment rate briefly dropped below 4 percent for the first time since 1970.And inflation, which had bedeviled the United States and much of the global economy during the 1970s, was remarkably dormant during Greenspan’s chairmanship, something many economists had not thought could occur for so long a period.During the long boom, Greenspan argued that improvements in technology had made the economy so efficient that it could run faster, at lower rates of unemployment, without unleashing inflation. As a consequence, the theory went, the Fed could keep interest rates low even when the economy was roaring. As Fed chair, Greenspan relished poring over obscure economic data, from monthly boxcar loadings to steel production, all in a bid to assess where the economy was headed. He would often phone economists at other government agencies to discuss details. He would rise early each morning for a two-hour soak in his bathtub, time that he used to review statistics and Fed staff memos.Improbably, Greenspan also made the gossip pages as something of an unlikely ladies’ man. He dated the television journalist Barbara Walters and later married Andrea Mitchell of NBC News after a 12-year courtship. They had no children.Greenspan had dated Walters while working as an adviser to President Gerald Ford. According to a biography of Greenspan, “The Man Who Knew” by Sebastian Mallaby, when Ford read a newspaper item about the pair, he cut it out and sent it to his chief of staff, Dick Cheney, with a note that said, “I don’t believe it.”All along, Greenspan held fast to the belief that financial markets could largely regulate themselves. With officials from President Bill Clinton’s White House, he helped block efforts by Brooksley Born, the nation’s top commodities regulator, to bring federal oversight in the late 1990s to the shadowy market in over-the-counter derivatives. The derivatives allowed speculators to make bets on everything from the price of oil to high-risk mortgages.Eventually, history would vindicate Born, not the Maestro. The low interest rates Greenspan had engineered helped swell housing prices into a dangerous bubble. And the financial deregulation he supported allowed banks and other financial firms to pile up huge risks, often hidden from government supervision. Bad derivatives bets helped sink insurance giant American International Group, which required a $180 billion taxpayer bailout. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, which was assigned to investigate the debacle by Congress, concluded:“More than 30 years of deregulation and reliance on self-regulation by financial institutions, championed by former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan and others ... had stripped away key safeguards, which could have helped avoid catastrophe. In the years after stepping down as Fed chairman in 2006 just shy of his 80th birthday, Greenspan kept busy doing what he loved to do most — following the economic data. He ran his own consulting firm, Greenspan Associates, through which he dispensed advice to Wall Street clients and collected handsome speaking fees.He kept up a busy schedule well into his 90s, writing his memoir and two other books on the economy, as well as opining on the latest economic developments on television news shows. He also signed onto opinion articles and statements defending the Federal Reserve’s political independence from President Donald Trump’s ongoing attacks. In January 2026 he signed a statement criticizing the Trump administration’s investigation of Fed Chair Jerome Powell. The statement, which was also signed by two other former Fed chairs and five former Treasury secretaries, called the investigation “an unprecedented attempt to use prosecutorial attacks to undermine” the Fed’s independence and warned it would have “highly negative consequences for inflation.” Greenspan’s tenure as Fed chairman – from August 1987 through January 2006 — was just five months shy of the longest Fed chairman’s tenure. That distinction belonged to William McChesney Martin, who served from 1951 until early 1970.In his 2013 book “The Map and the Territory,’’ Greenspan defended himself against critics who assigned him significant blame for the 2008 financial meltdown. He argued that traditional economic forecasting was no match for the irrational risk-taking that can feed catastrophic price bubbles.“Bubbles go up very slowly as euphoria builds,” Greenspan said in a 2013 interview with The Associated Press. “Then fear hits, and it comes down very sharply. When I started to look at that, I was sort of intellectually shocked.”-------------AP Economics Writers Christopher Rugaber and Martin Crutsinger contributed to this report.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COM2 cities defy Gov. Ron DeSantis’ anti-rainbow orders by creatively displaying their Pride colorsTwo Florida cities are standing up to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ removal of their rainbow crosswalks by painting rainbow colors on two other highly visible public places. At the start of Pride month, St. Petersburg painted the steps of its city hall in the colors of the Progress Pride flag. Related City forced to scrap Rainbow Arch project due to Ron DeSantis’s anti-DEI law “Losing the crosswalk was a huge hit to us, so making sure that we pop up more visual signs of inclusion was right in alignment,” said Dr. Byron Green-Calisch, president of the board of directors with St. Pete Pride, according to Bay News 9. “So, the fact we got to see it at the beginning of Pride Month was chef’s kiss.” City Mayor Ken Welch said, “The Pride steps at City Hall are more than paint on concrete. The law effectively bans all pavement art and murals like rainbow crosswalks, regardless of their political message. The city of Fort Lauderdale also recently installed a rainbow-colored “circle of love” at the Selene condominiums near Sebastian Street Beach, a popular LGBTQ+ beach. The city had been fighting DeSantis’ order in court to keep its rainbow street art, but it relented after his administration threatened to withhold local transportation funding. Because the new rainbow circle is located on private business property, current state law cannot force the business to remove it, WPEC reported. “We are here today to not only say that we are going to never be erased, but we’re going to find a way to still be able to appreciate and embrace the diversity of our community,” Mayor Dean Trantalis said during the circle’s unveiling earlier this month. “Because if there’s anything that Fort Lauderdale represents, it’s diversity. People from all walks of life should be able to come here.” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who also attended the unveiling, said, “This expression in the circle of love, with the city working with a developer in the city to make sure that there continues to be a very public display of support for equality and the LGBTQ+ community, is remarkable and I’m so proud of them.” Earlier this morning in FTL, Mayor Trantalis announced a new partnership that will bring the “Circle of Love” #Pride display to Sebastian Street Plaza near the beach.Fort Lauderdale remains committed to being a welcoming community for all. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSantos return with near full squad, focus on mid-season breakSantos return with near full squad, focus on mid-season breakSantos players returned to training this Monday (22) at CT Rei Pelé after a 21-day vacation period. The only absence for the mid-season training period is Neymar, who is representing the club at the 2026 World Cup.The ge website detailed Peixe’s plans for the period. Check them out below:Initially, the Santos board planned to hold training sessions at CT Rei Pelé until the end of June and then, in the first weeks of July, travel to Portugal for a mid-season training camp. However, the packed schedule — due to the Copa Sudamericana playoff and the likely rescheduling of the Brasileirão match against Botafogo — forced the cancellation of the trip to Europe. As an alternative, the coaching staff is considering organizing friendly matches in Brazil to maintain match fitness, although no opponents have been officially confirmed so far.Coach Cuca’s focus for the training periodFor the first time since taking charge of Peixe, coach Cuca will have about a month free of official matches to work with the squad. The coaching staff has defined three priorities for this World Cup break:Physical Recovery: The internal assessment is that the short preseason and the marathon of matches in the first half of the year wore down the squad. The focus will be on restoring the players’ fitness.Tactical and Technical Adjustments: Cuca intends to test tactical variations and adapt players to new roles. Experiments that had already been tried before the break, such as moving Miguelito and Robinho Jr. deeper to play as attacking midfielders, are expected to be developed further.Clearing Out the Medical Department: There was strong expectation surrounding the return of midfielders Gabriel Menino and João Schmidt, as well as attacking midfielder Thaciano. The three players, who had been injured, are expected to begin on-field activities with the rest of the group as early as this Monday.Alongside the training sessions, Santos’ board is working behind the scenes with an eye on the transfer window that opens in July. The club needs to sell players to balance its finances, as recent reports indicate that the club’s debt has surpassed the R$ 1 billion mark. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. This could have been his World Cup,” said Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.“Yesterday we all tried to lift him up – fortunately he is a very positive character who is already looking ahead again. It is a good sign that he will initially stay here with the team, because he also has an impact off the pitch. Despite his absence, we are still very well covered at centre-back with Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger, Waldemar Anton and Malick Thiaw for the World Cup.”With Schlotterbeck out, Antonio Rüdiger is expected to move into the starting XI alongside Jonathan Tah in central defence.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 8 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.PROPUBLICA.ORGDo You Work or Volunteer for Connecticut’s Emergency Medical Services? We Want to Hear From You.A Stamford Emergency Medical Services ambulance responds to a call in the Connecticut city. Chris Preovolos/Stamford Advocate/AP ProPublica and The Connecticut Mirror, two nonprofit newsrooms, are examining the state’s emergency medical services and what it takes to provide lifesaving care across the state. If you work or volunteer for emergency medical services in Connecticut, we need your help. We know that the state’s emergency medical services have been strained for years, but that doesn’t stop paramedics, emergency medical technicians and emergency medical responders from working around the clock to serve community members in crisis. We have data on ambulance response times, but we know it doesn’t tell a full story about what is happening behind the scenes. If you work or volunteer for a Connecticut ambulance corps, a fire department, a law enforcement agency or an emergency room, we want to hear your experience and understand what resources you need to do this lifesaving work. What has changed about emergency medical services since you started? If your ambulance corps needs more staff, what are the challenges to hiring or retaining new people? What do you wish Connecticut residents or lawmakers knew about the state of EMS? Your input is crucial and will help guide our reporting. We want to understand the issue in all its complexity — from training limitations to worker housing needs to budget cuts, and what that means for your vital work every day. You can fill out our brief form to share your experience. Our reporters read through every response and may follow up with you. You can also email CT Mirror reporter Jenna Carlesso and ProPublica reporter Cassandra Garibay at ctemergency@propublica.org if you have any questions or concerns. Tell Us About Your Experience. An ambulance at the Northbridge Health Care Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut Frank Franklin II/AP Have you called 911 for a medical emergency in Connecticut? ProPublica and The Connecticut Mirror, two nonprofit newsrooms, are examining emergency medical services in the state and want to hear from those who have had firsthand experiences seeking care. We would like to learn more about your story and if you faced a long wait for emergency care to arrive. We know people in some towns have had to wait up to 20 minutes for an ambulance, but the numbers don’t show what happens as time drags. And they can’t explain the impact on your life in the weeks and months following delayed emergency care. We’ve heard that emergency medical services are often underresourced, but in order to understand what the strained system actually looks like for communities across the state, we need to hear from you. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘This is not IPL’: RR, RCB, DC take a cheeky jibe as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashes record 11-ball fifty in Sri Lanka A finalNEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered another breathtaking reminder of his extraordinary talent as the 15-year-old Indian batting sensation smashed a record-breaking 94 off just 29 balls against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-nation final in Dambulla on Sunday. The highlight of his blistering knock was an 11-ball fifty — the fastest in List A cricket history — as India A overpowered Sri Lanka A by 66 runs to lift the title. Sooryavanshi’s innings featured pure carnage from the outset, with his first 11 balls reading: 4, 4, 4, 6, 6, 0, 6, 4, 4, 6, 6.His 94-run blitz included 10 fours and eight sixes, setting the tone for India A’s massive 377/9 before Sri Lanka A were restricted to 311 in 47.1 overs.‘This is not IPL’ jibe sparks viral responseThe knock carried added intensity following an ill-tempered previous meeting between the two sides, where Sri Lanka A had defeated India A in a Super Over and tensions spilled over after the match.During that contest, Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated exchange, with a Sri Lankan player reportedly telling him, “This is not IPL” after India A’s Super Over defeat. On Sunday, IPL franchises were quick to revive that moment as the teenager flipped the narrative in spectacular fashion. Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals all celebrated the 11-ball fifty on social media, prominently echoing the phrase “This is not IPL” while hailing Sooryavanshi’s explosive response. The viral reaction turned the phrase into a symbol of redemption, with fans and franchises alike hailing the teenager’s fearless approach on the big stage.— RCBTweets (@RCBTweets) No pressure, just pure destructionDespite the previous controversy and a mixed run in the tri-series, Sooryavanshi insisted he played without pressure and focused solely on execution.“I hadn't thought of anything. Just wanted to execute what I planned,” he said after being named Player of the Match. The teenager, who is set for a potential India T20 debut later this month, credited his coaches for helping him reset after inconsistent outings earlier in the series.— DelhiCapitals (@DelhiCapitals) Record-breaking talent keeps risingSooryavanshi’s 11-ball half-century broke the previous List A record of 12 balls held by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne since 2005, underlining the scale of his achievement. His knock also saw him narrowly miss out on the fastest List A century record, as he fell for 94 while attempting another big hit, caught at mid-off in the ninth over. From dominating IPL stages earlier in the year to now dismantling bowling attacks in international youth cricket, Sooryavanshi continues to build a reputation as one of India’s most explosive young batters.— rajasthanroyals (@rajasthanroyals)0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM9 winners from Detroit Lions OTAs, minicampDetroit Lions wide receiver Isaac Teslaa (18) practices during mini camp at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. | Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Before we get into my list of the nine biggest winners from Detroit Lions OTAs and minicamp, let’s make one thing clear: jobs are not won in the spring. Practices are very low-key, and coaches are using most of the time to start installing the playbook and getting their players up to speed mentally. At the same time, our first look at the 2026 Detroit Lions also allows us to see where the depth chart initially stands heading into training camp. And having talked with just about every coach on staff over the past month, we also have some initial impressions to work with. So with that in mind, here are my nine biggest winners from the spring program.TE Miles Kitselman With Sam LaPorta limited to walkthroughs and veteran Tyler Conklin missing the last couple weeks of practice, it was very interesting to see that it was undrafted rookie Miles Kitselman getting some time with the first and second-team offense. Kitselman received a modest $115,000 guaranteed in his UDFA contract, so he’s by no means a lock to make the roster. But amongst very young depth, Kitselman appeared to be the early standout.WR Isaac TeSlaaAll the early indications of a Year 2 jump for Isaac TeSlaa are there. He’s been uncontested third receiver alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and coaches have really praised just how comfortable he looks.“He is just steady, he’s steady, he is consistent for a young guy, he doesn’t get frazzled,” coach Dan Campbell said. “I mean this as a compliment, what he’s done out here is in the spring, Phase II, OTAs and all of that, it has just been very—there’s been nothing like flashy about it, and that is a good thing.”And he’s apparently improved on several things, from his breaks to his overall strength. “He’s done a good job of going and getting the football since he’s been here and then now at the top of his breaks, they’re so much cleaner,” receivers coach Scottie Montgomery said. “He’s so much stronger. Last year, what I like to do is I like to watch where we were, especially from an athleticism standpoint to where he is now. It’s not even close.” G/C Juice ScruggsWhen the David Montgomery trade down, I admittedly looked at Scruggs as a throw-in piece. While he had 20 games of starting experience, I figured he’d be a bubble player who would have to really prove himself to land a spot on the 53. Now, I have him just outside of a “lock.” Why? Well, because he’s consistently been the backup center during all of the spring, and because he’s also been repping at the other two interior offensive line spots, including some brief time with the starters at left guard. On top of that, apparently the Lions front office made it clear that they really wanted him as part of the Montgomery trade.“He really wants me here,” Scruggs told Detroit Football Network regarding Lions GM Brad Holmes. “He likes my game. So, it’s just like a relief, like a fresh start.”DL Tyler LacyWhen the Lions went into a five-man front this spring and were in need of a 4i or 5-tech, it was almost always Tyler Lacy who was the first man up. Maybe that’s because Levi Onwuzurike is still working his way back from his torn ACL from last year, but I think it’s more than that. Let’s not forget that Lacy played 237 defensive snaps for this team last year and is still just 26 years old. “He kind of jumped on and picked up the scheme and just took off and kind of ran with it,” Lions defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers said. “So far, I thought he’s had a really good spring. He’s another piece that adds another piece that’s gonna make probably some hard decisions for Dan and Brad down the road.” It’s worth noting that Lacy will not only have to hold off Onwuzurike, but Ahmed Hassanein added some weight and strength and will also be competing for that big end position.EDGE Payton TurnerTurner came to Detroit with a ton of questions about him. A former first-round pick, he’s seen his career fizzle out largely due to injury. He’s got a tough road to the roster with D.J. Wonnum and Derrick Moore added this offseason, but to Turner’s credit, he got significant time with the starters this spring, including during some of their pass rush subpackages. Maybe that was to get him caught up on the defense, but I’m still higher on him now than I was at the start of camp.LB Jimmy RolderFull transparency: I was pretty skeptical of this draft pick after diving into the initial film of his one year as a starter at Michigan. But Rolder made a few really nice plays in the spring, and several coaches have praised his intelligence and ability to pick up the defense quickly. “I’ve seen tremendous growth from him, primarily from just like the understanding of football, NFL football concepts, primarily,” Lions linebackers coach Shaun Dion Hamilton said.“To play linebacker and safety in this system, especially where we have taken it now, it takes a lot. It takes mental capacity, and he has it,” defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said.LB Malcolm RodriguezRodriguez has had a fairly quiet spring in terms of playmaking, but right now he appears to be the unquestioned third starting linebacker alongside Derrick Barnes and Jack Campbell. Even with Rolder impressing, I don’t know if they’d consider unseating Rodriguez this early in the rookie’s career. Plus, Rodriguez already looks a lot more like himself after his late-season return from an ACL injury in 2025.“Malcolm’s in a great spot, man,” Hamilton said. “I’ve had an ACL myself. It’s always that first year; it’s kinda like, ‘Ah.’ But now he’s moving around great, he’s feeling great. I think that also, I was telling Shep, it’s great that he got a full offseason to be in Shep’s defense rather than AG’s (Aaron Glenn’s), with some of the changes and stuff like that.”CB Roger McCrearyThe Lions are looking to play more nickel in 2026, and all signs point to that meaning more Roger McCreary. For nearly 100% of the first-team nickel reps in the spring, it was McCreary in the lineup. He both made some plays and had some plays made against him (he was often up against Amon-Ra St. Brown, to be fair), but unless the Lions plan on shifting Avonte Maddox or Christian Izien into the slot, I think the job is likely McCreary’s to lose. Obviously, rookie Keith Abney will have a crack at it, too, but he seemed firmly with the reserves in the spring. On top of that, the Lions clearly view McCreary as a schematic fit given his man-coverage background:“His strong suit is playing man, and that’s what we need,” Lions defensive backs coach Deshean Townsend said. “He’s given us another competitive piece that’s inside, and he also can play outside. Because that’s what he was drafted to do at Tennessee. He’s a capable veteran that’s going to push the entire room.”S Chuck Clark Not many players have been hyped more than Chuck Clark this offseason. He’s clearly already established himself as a leader in a safety room that could be missing its two starters at the beginning of the season. Clark’s expert communication skills should not only help add some stability to a room in flux, but he’ll also be a good resource to young players like Izien, Thomas Harper, Dan Jackson, and Loren Strickland. All that being said, Clark is 31 years old, and Sheppard was clear that while he’s showing off all of his intangibles right now, he’ll need to prove he still has the movement skills to make it on the field.“When it comes to athletic ability, can he still do certain things? That is still yet to be seen, in training camp that will allow us those four-to-five-week period to see what he is capable of doing,” Sheppard said. “But, from everything I have seen so far, this is the player I saw on tape, previous to his career.”0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

They were here last year, they have been closely following Bayer 04 and have built a good connection with various staff members from the academy and the first-team setup," Rolfes revealed. "As an entire club, we campaigned for and fought for Kennet. That made an impression. Kennet’s parents said that this was something very special.”The final commitment came after a meeting with new head coach Carles Martínez, which Rolfes also attended:“I said to Kennet:, You haven’t played for us yet, but you already know half the club.”Remarkably, Eichhorn is expected to combine football with an internship at Leverkusen as part of his education.“Kennet still has to complete a one-year internship after finishing his ‘Fachabitur’, and he will most likely do that with us at the club,” said the Bayer 04 boss.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColts roster preview: What can Sahmir Hagans add to WR room?Between now and training camp, we will be going through the Indianapolis Colts' full 90-man roster, previewing each player.Up next is wide receiver Sahmir Hagans, who wears No. 11.ProfileHeight: 5-10Weight: 190Age: 23Experience: RookieCollege: DukeHow long has Sahmir Hagans been with the Colts? The Colts signed Hagans after the 2026 NFL draft as an undrafted rookie. What to know about Sahmir HagansHagans played five seasons at Duke and has been a regular contributor on offense for four of those years, totaling at least 49 targets each season, including 75 in 2024 and 64 this past year. Hagans' most productive season was in 2025 when he totaled 501 receiving yards, averaging 11.7 yards per catch with six touchdowns. Most of his snaps have come lined up outside, but he has slot experience as well.Looking ahead to the 2026 season for Sahmir HagansAlthough the Colts still have to determine who WR3 will be, the depth chart is quite crowded, which will make it difficult for Hagans to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. Of course, leading the way at wideout will be Alec Pierce and Josh Downs, while Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Ashton Dulin, Deion Burks, and Laquon Treadwell compete for the WR3 role. Also on the roster is Anthony Gould, who was the primary return man last season. That already is seven players, and typically, teams roster just five or six wideouts. Hagans' ceiling in Year 1 is probably the practice squad. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Colts training camp roster preview: WR Sahmir Hagans0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

Newsom – known as an LGBTQ+ rights pinoeer – also agreed that Trump’s 2024 campaign ad criticizing then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ support of taxpayer-funded gender-affirming surgeries for trans inmates was “devastating” for her presidential bid. “I think [the trans athlete question is] an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that…. it’s deeply unfair,” Newsom told Kirk, the first guest of his new podcast This is Gavin Newsom. “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.” Later on in Newsom’s discussion with Kirk, Newsom — who famously ordered San Francisco county clerks to issue same-sex marriage licenses in 2004, 11 years before the U.S. Supreme Court legalized the unions nationwide — compared his position on trans athletes to conservatives who oppose same-sex marriage on principle, Politico reported. Newsom praised Kirk and other conservatives for continuing to oppose same-sex marriage despite the widespread legal and social acceptance of such unions. When Shough outlined his plans for the weeks leading up to training camp at the end of the team's offseason program, he shared that he has been working with Drew Brees to set up time to work out with his teammates in San Diego. "Drew is kinda helping us set up our QB/wide receiver throwing retreat," Shough said. "We’re getting all the guys to come down there and just work and bond together. For me, it's just kind of continuing to study the playbook and then just put my feet and my eyes in the right position. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCeltics go all-in with Jaylen Brown move to win Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakesCeltics go all-in with Jaylen Brown move to win Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Celtics are in crunch time. Prior to the NBA Draft, the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes took a big turn. At first it was that Milwaukee Bucks star preferred to join the Miami Heat, now it seems like Brad Stevens and the front office in Massachusetts are throwing all their chips on the table. Jaylen Brown, the longest-tenured member of the 18-time NBA champions, is now publicly on the trading block.Celtics go all-in for Antetokounmpo by offering BrownDuring the morning of the NBA Draft, Brian Windhorst went ESPN's Get Up. The NBA insider stated that Celtics have 'firmly put Jaylen Brown' on the table to go all-in on landing Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Bucks. Notably, the trade talks surrounding Brad Stevens and the Greek Freak have primarily revolved on whether which player ends up having to leave the Celtics. Derrick White was a name that got mentioned a few times but it seems like the stakes got higher with the Heat and Pat Riley also making bids to get the former NBA MVP.Apparently, this is also the first time ever that the Celtics have given serious thought of breaking up Jayson Tatum and Brown. These two have been with each other as arguably the best duo in the Atlantic Division and, maybe even, the Eastern Conference. Together, Brown and Tatum have led the Celtics to five Eastern Conference Finals appearances alongside an NBA championship back in 2024.Brown has slowly increased his trade value too. Without Tatum for 2025-26, he still made the Celtics competitive due to his averages of 28.7 points on 47.7% field goal shooting, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. This got him 89 total points in the NBA MVP race which was good for sixth place behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, and Cade Cunningham.Stevens surely wants to seal the deal before the NBA Draft because it will determine the trajectory of their offseason. The Brown-Antetokounmpo trade will definitely break the world of basketball but it also decides which players the Celtics re-sign, draft, and acquire to win Banner 19 as fast as possible.More Celtics News:Tracking the latest trade rumors surrounding Giannis AntetokounmpoCeltics linked to monster Derrick White-centered trade for $110 million four-time DPOYCeltics get major Jaylen Brown-Giannis Antetokounmpo trade update after reported offer0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJournalist: European giants still targeting Liverpool starJournalist: European giants still targeting Liverpool starLiverpool face Mac Allister dilemma as Real Madrid interest growsLiverpool may soon find themselves confronting a decision few supporters would have anticipated when Alexis Mac Allister arrived at Anfield three years ago. The Argentine midfielder remains one of the most technically gifted players in Arne Slot’s squad, yet reports emerging from Football Insider suggest Real Madrid are closely monitoring his situation ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.According to a number of sources, including Fabrizio Romano in the live transfer special below, Real Madrid are prepared to intensify their interest in Mac Allister should the Liverpool midfielder deliver another outstanding performance on football’s biggest international stage. It is a scenario that could create significant complications for Liverpool, particularly if multiple elite clubs join the race for his signature.Real Madrid monitoring World Cup performancesMac Allister’s reputation was transformed by Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 World Cup. His composure, tactical intelligence and ability to control matches against elite opposition convinced Liverpool to secure his services from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth around £35 million.Since arriving on Merseyside, Mac Allister has established himself as a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield. However, the latest report claims Real Madrid believe the coming World Cup could provide the perfect opportunity to assess whether he is ready to become a leading figure in their next generation of midfielders. The Spanish giants are reportedly looking to strengthen their options in the centre of the park after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign. Mac Allister’s blend of technical quality, defensive awareness and leadership qualities has placed him firmly on their shortlist. For Liverpool, the concern is obvious. A successful World Cup campaign could dramatically increase both the player’s market value and the number of clubs willing to compete for his signature.Injury setbacks create uncertaintyWhile Mac Allister remains highly regarded within Liverpool’s coaching staff, the past season has not been without difficulties. The Argentina international endured a campaign disrupted by recurring fitness issues. Injuries prevented him from maintaining the consistency that had become a hallmark of his performances during his first two seasons at Anfield.Liverpool are understood to value Mac Allister highly, but modern football economics often force clubs to consider opportunities when a player’s value reaches its peak. With his contract running until 2028, Liverpool are in a strong negotiating position should any formal approach arrive.Financial opportunity for LiverpoolOne of the most intriguing aspects of the report is the suggestion that Liverpool could be willing to listen to offers if a bidding war develops.Such a scenario would provide the club with significant financial flexibility. Liverpool have invested heavily in squad evolution during recent transfer windows and a substantial fee for Mac Allister could accelerate further rebuilding plans. That does not mean Liverpool are actively seeking a sale. Far from it. Mac Allister remains an important member of the squad and a player trusted in major matches. However, elite clubs rarely ignore opportunities to maximise value when circumstances align. Should Real Madrid, or other European heavyweights, submit offers reflecting Mac Allister’s status as a World Cup winner and Premier League performer, Liverpool may at least consider their options.World Cup could shape next chapterIf Mac Allister enjoys another standout tournament with Argentina, speculation surrounding his future will inevitably intensify. Real Madrid’s interest appears genuine, and strong performances on the international stage would only strengthen the case for a move.As things stand, Liverpool hold all the cards. Mac Allister is under contract, remains a valuable member of the squad and has shown repeatedly why he is considered one of the Premier League’s most intelligent midfielders.Whether Real Madrid’s admiration develops into something more substantial may ultimately depend on what happens at the 2026 World Cup.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMErik Weihenmayer, the blind climber who conquers mountainsErik Weihenmayer is the first blind person to climb the tallest peak on every continent. For him, summiting is not the most thrilling part of climbing. The real excitement lies in the movement, in the process, in each hold and step along the way. Born in a small Norwegian town, Erik was diagnosed at four or five years old with retinoschisis, a rare disease that attacked and unraveled his retinas. When he finally went blind, he felt a strange relief. The worst had already happened, and there was nothing else to lose. A recreational group for blind kids introduced him to rock climbing, giving him access to adventure and challenges he never imagined he could experience. That first experience changed his perspective on life, showing him that limitations could be confronted with determination, courage, and creativity. It was the beginning of a journey that would push boundaries and inspire thousands around the world.Climbing allows Erik to feel fully alive. What sighted people achieve with their eyes, he achieves with his hands. Each bolt clipped through a carabiner, each hold felt with fingertips, is a test of precision and trust. He cannot see the route in advance. He only sees as far as his hands. The challenge, the uncertainty, and the focus on the immediate next move make every climb breathtakingly exciting. He listens to the echoes in the canyon and the distant hum of vehicles below and finds meditation in the emptiness. Every climb is an immersive experience, where distractions vanish and awareness sharpens. Each movement requires deliberate attention, and each step is measured and intentional. Each climb becomes an inner mind sport, a test of courage, concentration, and presence. Erik has shared that this process allows him to connect deeply with the mountain, with the terrain, and ultimately with himself in ways that most people never experience. The physical and mental synergy of climbing blind is both demanding and liberating, providing a unique perspective on human potential and the strength of the human spirit. For Erik, adversity is a tool, a catalyst for growth and discovery. Blindness did not limit him; it redirected him to a life of purpose, excitement, and achievement. Each climb teaches lessons about resilience, awareness, and determination. Mountains are more than physical obstacles; they are platforms for self discovery and personal transformation. By embracing challenges and turning obstacles into opportunities, Erik shows that limitations can be transformed into extraordinary achievements. His story inspires people everywhere to face adversity with courage, to redefine what is possible, and to pursue passions regardless of circumstances. Every summit is proof that determination, focus, and perseverance can overcome even the most daunting obstacles. Beyond the physical achievement, his accomplishments highlight the importance of mindset, preparation, and the willingness to take calculated risks. Erik’s journey is a testament to human potential, the power of persistence, and the extraordinary possibilities that emerge when one refuses to be limited by perceived barriers.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat has happened to Hardik Pandya? Tracking India all-rounder's fitness and injury problems and when he will return to actionWhat has happened to Hardik Pandya? Tracking India all-rounder's fitness and injury problems and when he will return to action originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Hardik Pandya has been left out of India's ODI squad for England, with the BCCI making no mention of his status. The all-rounder is recovering from a quadriceps strain after a back spasm, undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's CoE in Bengaluru.Pandya is expected to regain full fitness by the first week of July, but doubts remain over his ability to bowl 10 overs.Tracking Hardik Pandya's fitness and injury problems and when he will return to actionWhat exactly is happening with Hardik Pandya? One of the finest all-rounders India has produced in the 21st century, Pandya currently finds himself out of both the ODI and T20I plans of the Indian team, and the lack of clarity around his situation has only deepened the mystery surrounding one of India's most valuable cricketers. When the BCCI announced its squad for the three-match ODI series in England on June 21, it made no mention of Pandya's status in the media release. The omission left the door open to several interpretations, whether injury, a selection call, or simply a fitness threshold he has not yet met after a long spell on the sidelines. The reality, according to a report by Cricbuzz's Vijay Tagore, is that Pandya continues to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He checked himself in on June 2 after a short post-IPL break and has remained there since, working through a concentrated training and conditioning block undertaken at his own request.MORE: Big blow for England's WTC final hopes as 12 points deducted after The Oval defeatTracking Hardik Pandya's injury problemsThe initial concern with the star all-rounder was a back spasm, the same issue that forced him to miss four matches for Mumbai Indians during IPL 2026 season. However, in recent days, a quadriceps strain has delayed his return to full fitness and ruled him out of the just-concluded Afghanistan ODIs.A source familiar with the injury outlined the timeline to Cricbuzz. "Hardik experienced a minor, low-grade tenderness in his leg on June 9. He voluntarily got the leg scanned as a precautionary measure. The scans were sent to Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in Mumbai, who advised him a 4-5 day rest followed by a three-week training program to come back to full fitness. He started light training on June 16," the source said.MORE: Can India qualify for semifinals in Women's T20 WC 2026?When will Hardik Pandya return for Indian team?Pandya has recently stepped up the intensity of his training and is expected to regain full fitness by the first week of July. With the first ODI against England scheduled for July 14 in Birmingham, the question of whether the selectors could have picked him subject to fitness, as they did with Virat Kohli, becomes a pertinent one.The answer, it is understood, lies in his bowling workload. A BCCI source explained the thinking to the Times of India, "Hardik has not been able to attain the requisite amount of bowling volume and conditioning required for an ODI format and will require more time to regain complete fitness for an ODI," the source said.MORE: Australia go full 'gangster mode' celebrating 3-0 T20I series sweep of BangladeshIs Nitish Reddy Hardik Pandya's natural successor? The Pandya situation has been framed by India's management around the emergence of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate spoke about the all-rounder's progress before the Chennai ODI, casting Reddy as the long-term option in that role."When Hardik's fit, he obviously brings a different element because he's such a strong batter, such a strong finisher. It is difficult to find a finisher who can give you overs as well. For the last 18 months Nitish has shown glimpses of how important he can be to this team. I feel his body's getting stronger and stronger, and I sort of feel he is the natural successor to Hardik," ten Doeschate said.Pandya is definitely navigating a difficult period in his career. He endured an underwhelming IPL season with bat and ball as Mumbai Indians exited from the league stage. Then after the conclusion of the IPL 2026 campaign, speculation intensified about his future with the franchise, with reports linking him to Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Delhi Capitals.Despite the poor season, Pandya remains highly valued. A franchise owner told Cricbuzz that an Indian all-rounder who can bat at a strike rate of 150, bowl at 140, and shoulder leadership is "gold dust." Any move, however, depends on Mumbai Indians choosing to trade him, and it is understood no such decision has yet been taken. For all the latest cricket news, opinion, and commentary and to share your voice, head to our Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) pages.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior

THEONION.COMU.K. Weighs Social Media Ban Of Everyone Except Old Men Who Grow Big VegetablesLONDON—Insisting that digital platforms should be restricted to responsible individuals, members of the U.K. Parliament announced Friday they were weighing a ban on social media for everyone except old men who grow big vegetables. “Under our bill, users seeking to access Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, or other social media networks will first have to pass a photo verification test certifying they are over 65 years old and possess multiple gourds weighing more than 300 kilos,” said Prime Minister Keir Starmer, adding that users could alternatively provide evidence of carrots over 50 centimeters long or sunflowers over three meters tall. “The data is clear: Social media presents a clear risk to the mental health of everyone other than puffy, mild-mannered pensioners who exclusively use the platforms to share photos of their prized produce. We propose that starting in 2027, any images posted online that lack oversized tubers, leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, or some other form of veg be flagged as ‘sensitive content’ and subject to removal following review. We hope this move will safeguard the well-being of our citizens while allowing seniors a space in which to dazzle each other with stupendous aubergines and monstrous courgettes.” At press time, Parliament was reportedly considering a revised bill that would expand social media access to elderly women who make elaborate patchwork quilts. THEONION.COMMom Takes Hushed Monologue In Movie As Cue To Go To Kitchen, Wash 5 PotsPENSACOLA, FL—Sensing the perfect opportunity to duck out and get a head start on some scrubbing, local mom Sandy Pagano reportedly took advantage of a movie’s hushed monologue Monday to go to the kitchen and wash five pots. Family sources said that during the relatively quiet moment of the film, Pagano eased herself off the couch and disappeared from the living room, and moments later the sound of water spattering against metal could be heard throughout the house. According to reports, after a few minutes passed and she detected that the movie’s louder action had not yet resumed, Pagano proceeded to reshelve some plates to make room for a saucepan in the drying rack, scrape vigorously at a burned-cheese-encrusted baking dish, and grind a wad of carrot peelings in the garbage disposal. Sources later confirmed that Pagano, rapidly drying her fingers with a dish towel, trotted out of the kitchen at the sound of a car crash and said, “Oooh, what just happened?” The post Mom Takes Hushed Monologue In Movie As Cue To Go To Kitchen, Wash 5 Pots appeared first on The Onion.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 7 Visualizações 0 Anterior -
