SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYour World Cup scouting: Bouaddi at Brighton? Or a possible return for Undav?[BBC][Getty Images]We asked you which players you think would be a great fit for Brighton that you have seen in action at the World Cup.Here are some of your comments:Dean: Ayyoub Bouaddi of Morocco. He is only 18 years old but he has so much confidence. He always shows for the ball and he is clever with it. He has a real engine to keep running and he is a link-up man as well as a playmaker. He could be a bargain to develop and sell on for a profit after a five-year contract?Simon: Canada's Jonathan David for his technique and temperament. I also think Germany's Deniz Undav.James: I want Scotland's Scott McTominay and France's Kylian Mbappe - haha!Chris: I keep seeing our current and ex-club players doing so well at the World Cup, such as Sweden's Yasin Ayari (need to keep him), Paraguay's Julio Enciso (why did he leave?) and Germany's Deniz Undav (why did he leave as well?). Are we training players for other clubs or failing in relations inside the locker room? Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on the young players on the bench for Ecuador, Colombia and Cape Verde. We should stop looking to Germany and the Netherlands, there is raw and astounding talent as well as cheap deals to be had in South America, the Caribbean and Africa.Dylan: Vuskovic. We need to be looking at the man from Croatia.Tell us who you have scouted0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMElliot Anderson on brink of British record Man City transfer amid £130M Forest demandElliot Anderson on brink of British record Man City transfer amid £130M Forest demandAnderson edging closer to a British record transfer to Manchester City, per new updateFurther talks between the two clubs are planned to take place in the next 24 hoursNottingham Forest have been holding out for a total package worth close to £130MElliot Anderson is edging closer to a British record transfer to Manchester City, with further talks between the two clubs expected in the next 24 hours, as per a new report.Anderson has been Manchester City‘s leading transfer target throughout the early stages of the summer window, with the Blues identifying the 23-year-old as the cornerstone of incoming manager Enzo Maresca‘s midfield rebuild at the Etihad Stadium.City submitted an opening bid for the midfielder earlier this month, which was promptly rejected by Nottingham Forest, with the City Ground club believed to value Anderson significantly higher than City’s initial offer.Man City and Nottingham Forest ‘very close’ to full Elliot Anderson agreement, confirms Fabrizio RomanoReport: Forest holding out for close to £130M total packageAccording to journalist Tom Collomosse, Anderson is now edging closer to completing the move to the Etihad Stadium, with talks between the two clubs set to continue imminently.Collomosse reports that Forest have been holding out for a total package worth close to £130M for the England international – a figure that, if met, would represent a new British transfer record.Anderson himself is understood to hold a preference to move to Manchester City over other interested parties, including Manchester United, who had also been monitoring his situation before stepping back from the pursuit. What would a £130M Anderson deal mean for Manchester City?A move at close to the figure Forest are demanding would surpass the existing British transfer record and underline the scale of City’s ambition in rebuilding their squad around Hugo Viana‘s vision for the post-Guardiola era.Anderson offers the kind of dynamic, box-to-box profile that maps closely to the gap left by the departure of club captain Bernardo Silva, with his range of passing, carrying ability and physical presence from midfield making him an ideal fit for the system Maresca is expected to implement.England manager Thomas Tuchel has also confirmed he will permit squad members to undergo medicals for club transfers during the FIFA World Cup, removing a potential logistical obstacle given Anderson is part of the England squad in North America.Fabrizio Romano: Elliot Anderson transfer to Manchester City enters ‘final stages’With talks now scheduled within the next 24 hours, a resolution on one of the summer’s most significant Premier League transfers appears to be drawing close.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTottenham ready to match West Ham’s £85m demand to beat Man United to Mateus FernandesTottenham ready to match West Ham’s £85m demand to beat Man United to Mateus FernandesTottenham Hotspur are ready to match West Ham United’s £85 million demands for Mateus Fernandes, according to the Daily Mail. The 21-year-old midfielder is a key target for Tottenham this summer, but they’ve had to face serious competition from rivals both in the Premier League and abroad.Fernandes has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe following an impressive season despite West Ham’s disappointing relegation from the Premier League. He was a standout performer for the Hammers last term, and Tottenham want to reward his performances by bringing him back to the Premier League this summer. The Portuguese midfielder has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.Tottenham seemed the least likely club to win the race, considering other suitors can offer Champions League football. However, they’re taking proactive steps to make sure the Portugal international midfielder ends up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.New manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly pushing for the club to finalise the deal for Fernandes.Tottenham have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market so far, with the club keen to avoid another disappointing campaign spent flirting with relegation.De Zerbi wants to build a squad that’s capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League and has already reshaped his backline by bringing in three new defenders.Tottenham signed Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers before forking out £52m to snap up Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion. They’re now focusing on rebuilding the midfield and have identified a couple of exciting targets, including Fernandes. While he’s open to joining Spurs, multiple reports have claimed that the Portuguese midfielder would prefer a move to Man United this summer. That hasn’t fazed Tottenham, who are also interested in Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. Like West Ham, the Magpies also want a fee closer to £100m for the Italian midfielder.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMPete Buttigieg shares his “radical” ideas to make America better: “We should take those big swings”Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s annual gathering in Chicago earlier this month — the first since founder Jesse Jackson died earlier this year — and shared some “radical” ideas for reforming democracy. “That’s radical stuff you’re talking about,” his interviewer, Jackson’s son and the civil rights organization’s new CEO, Yusef Jackson, told Buttigieg. Related Pete Buttigieg to give keynote speech at Iowa Democratic event, fueling presidential speculation And it was, particularly for a once-and-possibly-future presidential candidate not known for upsetting the status quo beyond his identity as the rare LGBTQ+ politician to break the lavender ceiling in Washington. It’s time to take “big swings,” Buttigieg said. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Buttigieg outlined four “radical” reforms on a pro-democracy agenda that he said would awaken the “sleeping giant” of a powerful Democratic majority. End the Electoral College Buttigieg proposed eliminating the Electoral College and directly electing the president of the United States by majority vote. Calling it a “radical proposition on the executive branch,” Buttigieg asked, “What if everybody’s vote just counted the same for president?” Buttigieg used his own trip to Chicago as an example to illustrate his point. He traveled from a swing state, Michigan, through a red state, Indiana, to a blue state, Illinois. Of the three, only Michigan matters when presidents are elected by winning a majority of the states. Electing a president by direct, popular vote would change the game, Buttigieg said, with Democrats’ votes in Indiana, for example, counting toward the total when they didn’t before. “Imagine if a Republican who wanted to be president had to come here and turn out those 40% of people who were Republicans and actually listen to people in Chicago in order to be president. And by the way, imagine if a Democrat wanting to be president had to show up in Texas and campaign there and make sure that the conservative communities heard them. Think about how empowering that would be for so many people in so many states, and I think it would lead to a more responsive presidency.” Buttigieg: Let's talk one more thing, one more radical proposition on the executive branch. What if everybody's vote counted the same?— Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-06-11T21:40:02.151Z Expand the Supreme Court Buttigieg proposed expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court to tilt the balance of power back toward the center and away from the current conservative majority’s 6-3 grip. “We have to deal with a Supreme Court that is now a rogue Supreme Court,” Buttigieg said to cheers. He used the court’s “evisceration” of the Voting Rights Act as an example, calling the legislation “some of the most important progress this country ever made.” The court has “wiped out part of what actually is great within the complex American story — the fact that this country was able to face down its demons, which is what the Voting Rights Act responded to, just like the 14th Amendment responded to this country facing down its darkest demons.” “Talking about that isn’t disparaging America, which is what this administration would want you to believe. Talking about that is honoring what was greatest about America, which was our capacity to overcome that. And now we’ve had this leap back from a rogue Supreme Court.” “Nowhere in the Constitution,” Buttigieg explained, “does it say that there have to be nine Supreme Court justices. That one doesn’t even take a constitutional amendment. It just takes a readiness to set up a Court that fits this country.” Buttigieg: Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that there have to be nine Supreme Court justices. That one doesn't even take a constitutional amendment. It just takes a readiness to set up a court that fits this country. — Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-06-11T21:32:52.643Z Expand the House of Representatives and grant D.C. statehood One of Secretary Pete’s most radical-sounding ideas was expanding the number of members in the House of Representatives. But it’s not so radical at all. “We sit in a country that’s got the wrong number of people on the Supreme Court, possibly the wrong number of representatives in the House of Representatives,” Buttigieg asserted. While he didn’t go into detail, the number of House reps currently stands at 435 voting members, but the size of the House has been increased seven times in U.S. history, before it was capped at the current number nearly a hundred years ago, in 1929. Increasing the number of reps would dilute the impact of power-grabbing strategies like the current gerrymandering wars and would better represent Democratic strongholds, like densely populated urban areas. “And by the way, when you consider the disenfranchisement of the people of D.C., we have the wrong number of states in the United States,” Buttigieg added. “We are talking about — maybe too often talking about — being caged in by the way things have been for our lifetimes, which is not the way things have always been, or the ways things must be,” Buttigieg said. “We should take those big swings.” Buttigieg: We sit in a in a country that's got the wrong number of people on the Supreme Court, possibly the wrong number of representatives in the House of Representatives. And by the way, when you consider the disenfranchisement of the people of DC, we have the wrong number of states in the US— Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-06-11T21:34:50.951Z Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBruno Fernandes to remain at Manchester United despite interest from Saudi ArabiaBruno Fernandes to remain at Manchester United despite interest from Saudi ArabiaManchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes is set to remain at the club this summer despite interest from Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese international has 12 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford, and while United have postponed talks of a new contract until after the summer window, Fernandes is not looking to leave. He enjoyed a spectacular campaign last season, recording a Premier League record 21 assists, 13 of which came under Michael Carrick after his January appointment.Bruno was courted by Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal but opted against a move. His stance on a long-term future at Man United has not changed, with the midfielder informing teammates and close friends that he wants to remain at the Theatre of Dreams. While United have the option to extend Bruno’s contract by another year, they are expected to accelerate talks over a new deal early next season to tie down one of, if not the biggest, creative forces in European football.Bruno is currently on international duty, where he helped set up Cristiano Ronaldo’s second goal in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan. The result has put Roberto Martinez’s side within touching distance of a place in the knockout stages ahead of their final group game against Colombia. Meanwhile, United are working on midfield additions ahead of next season, but their pursuit of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes has been complicated by interest from Tottenham Hotspur. United made Fernandes their prime target after a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson proved too expensive to pursue.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBulls Double Down On Upside in NBA Draft with Wilson, SwainThe Chicago Bulls walked into the 2026 NBA Draft with a clear mandate: swing big on talent, bet on development, and finally define a long-term identity. With two first-round picks, they did exactly that, selecting North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson at No. 4 and Texas wing Dailyn Swain at No. 15 in a two-move night that signals a full commitment to a youth-driven reset.Bulls Select Caleb Wilson at No. 4At No. 4, Wilson is the kind of pick that either looks obvious in hindsight or becomes the defining question of the Bulls’ front office’s tenure. A long, explosive forward with defensive versatility and downhill scoring instincts, he arrives as one of the highest-ceiling prospects in the class. The Bulls aren’t drafting polish, but more importantly, they’re drafting traits. Wilson’s athletic profile and two-way tools give Chicago something it has lacked for years: a potential foundational forward who can grow into a primary or secondary creator while anchoring defensive matchups across positions. The fit in Chicago is also intentional. Wilson doesn’t need the offense run through him immediately, especially with the Bulls still sorting out guard hierarchy and creation duties. Instead, the Bulls can ease him into a complementary role that emphasizes transition scoring, cutting, and defensive disruption. If the shot develops, the conversation changes quickly, but even without it, the defensive floor is strong enough to justify the pick in a rebuilding timeline.Caleb Wilson has a message for Bulls Nation! pic.twitter.com/RK8HF4kCWD— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) June 24, 2026Bulls Draft Dailyn Swain at Pick No. 15At No. 15, the Bulls stayed on the same philosophical track but added a different flavor with Swain. A high-motor wing who stuffed the stat sheet in college, Swain brings production, versatility, and a reputation for doing a little bit of everything. He can defend multiple positions, rebound for his size, and initiate offense in secondary actions. He’s not the headline grabber Wilson is, but he’s the type of connective piece winning teams consistently end up relying on.Dailyn Swain with a message for Bulls Nation! pic.twitter.com/WMSxF0t8Er— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) June 24, 2026The First Round of the Draft Was a Successful Night for ChicagoTaken together, the two picks suggest a shift in how Chicago is building. Instead of chasing fit around established veterans or patching roster holes, the Bulls are stacking athletic, position-less talent and trusting internal development to sort out hierarchy later. It’s a slower path, but a clearer one.The pressure now shifts from draft night to player development. Wilson will be judged on whether his tools translate into consistent two-way impact. Swain will be measured by how quickly his production scales to NBA spacing and speed. Fans will evaluate the Bulls’ front office on whether this kind of upside-first draft class becomes a foundation. For now, though, Chicago left the night with two vital things it hasn’t had enough of in recent years: optimism and possibilities.Caleb knows pic.twitter.com/gBHDV5ce1L— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) June 24, 2026The post Bulls Double Down On Upside in NBA Draft with Wilson, Swain appeared first on The Lead.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

THEONION.COMNew Raid Immortality Spray Curses Insects To Watch Everyone They Love DieRACINE, WI—Vowing that the new product line was the ideal way to make termites and beetles suffer for all eternity, household chemical manufacturer S.C. Johnson announced Wednesday that its insecticide brand Raid would be unveiling a new immortality spray that curses insects to watch everyone they love die. “With Raid Immortality Spray, bugs will no longer be granted the sweet release of death, and will instead be burdened with forever walking the Earth watching friends, family, and loved ones slowly wither and expire around them,” said brand representative Sawyer Weidman, noting that the new product effectively made both small and large bugs grapple with physical decay until being driven to madness with no lingering odor in houses or apartments. “Now purchasers can not only eliminate unwanted pests in their homes, but also imprison them in a Sisyphean existence in which their larvae and mates will turn to dust before their compound eyes. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIndianapolis man charged with multiple felonies after allegedly stalking Fever guard Sophie CunninghamAn Indianapolis man was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies after allegedly stalking Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced, per WTHR.Kevin Singh, 48, was charged Wednesday with stalking, intimidation and harassment. The stalking charge and one of the intimidation charges are considered Level 6 felonies. Level 6 felonies can carry jail time and/or a fine in Indiana. Harassment is a Class B misdemeanor and can carry similar consequences in Indiana, though at a smaller scale. Singh also faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of intimidation, per his arrest record. Singh is accused of sending multiple, increasingly threatening messages to Cunningham via social media, per a probable cause affidavit. He also reportedly hand-delivered a package to “Sophie” at the team’s stadium, which contained a Guns N’ Roses shirt sprayed with cologne and a letter, per the Indy Star.Singh’s messages reportedly grew more threatening, causing Fever security to step in. When that warning didn’t stop Singh, the situation escalated, resulting in Wednesday’s charges. In his statement Wednesday, Mears said no one should have to “endure harassment, intimidation or threats of violence” in their workplace, per WTHR."The internet has made it easier than ever to target, harass and intimidate others. Threats of violence, whether face-to-face or behind a keyboard, will be taken seriously.“Coming forward is never easy, regardless of a person's position or public profile. The victim is setting an example by speaking out. No one should have to endure harassment, intimidation or threats of violence, and every person deserves to feel safe in their workplace and throughout our community.”Cunningham, 29, is in her second season with the Fever. She’s averaging 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. It’s the second time since 2025 a person has been charged with stalking a Fever player. Last July, a 55-year-old man pleaded guilty to stalking Caitlin Clark. The man, Michael Lewis, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for his actions.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMets' Juan Soto leaves game against Cubs with back tightnessNEW YORK — Mets slugger Juan Soto was removed from the game against the Chicago Cubs because of back tightness.Soto appeared to grimace when he flied out in the first inning. He flied out again in the third and was replaced in left field in the top of the fifth with New York trailing 7-2. Jared Young moved from first base to left field, and Mark Vientos entered at first in Soto’s third spot in the batting order. In the bottom of the sixth, the last-place Mets announced Soto left with tightness on the left side of his back.“Back locked up there. So, he’s day-to-day. We’ll see where we’re at. He got treatment during the game, but he got to a point there, you could tell something was off,” manager Carlos Mendoza said after his team’s 9-6 defeat.“He was making some faces there and obviously I checked with him and he got to a point where it was like, it was bothering him to throw and then to just get his A swing on it. So at that point, I thought it was just best to get him out of the game and have the trainers look at him.”Soto, a four-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger award winner, began the night batting .301 with 17 homers, 38 RBIs and a .974 OPS. He spent time on the injured list in April with a calf strain. In other injury-related news, star shortstop Francisco Lindor (left calf strain) had two hits and scored twice in a rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse. A decision is expected soon on whether to reinstate him from the injured list or wait a little longer. In the same game with Syracuse, outfielder Tyrone Taylor (right hip flexor strain) went 3 for 5 with a homer, a double and three runs against Lehigh Valley. Switch-hitting infielder Ronny Mauricio (broken left thumb) had two hits and three RBIs.New York expects right-hander Christian Scott (right hip impingement) to come off the injured list and start against Philadelphia. And the Mets claimed outfielder Jared Oliva off waivers from the San Francisco Giants and optioned him to Syracuse.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMRepublican behind nation’s first ban on Pride flags in schools loses primaryUtah’s virulently anti-LGBTQ+ state Rep. Trevor Lee (R) conceded last night to his primary opponent Bob Stevenson. As of last night, Stevenson was leading with a little over 66% of the vote, ABC4 Utah ABC4 Utah reported. Lee posted a lengthy statement on social media saying “the results did not go as we hoped” and that he’s “deeply grateful” to those “who stood with our conservative vision for a stronger Utah.” Related GOP Gov. blasts party for “trying the same thing” after she vetoes anti-trans bill for 3rd time “Together, we have moved District 16 and our state meaningfully to the right,” he continued. “Over the past four years, I was proud to help pass more than twenty bills advancing election integrity, immigration enforcement, tax relief, parental rights in education, pro-life protections, and policies that prioritize Utah families over federal overreach and radical ideologies.” He also wished Stevenson “the very best” in serving the people of the district. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The so-called accomplishments Lee cited in his statement included introducing a bill that made Utah the first state to ban Pride flags from all government buildings, including schools. “We are starting to see increasingly more hostile-type interactions between different political factions that we have within our society, and that is no different than what we’re starting to see a lot within our education system,” Lee told the Utah House Education Committee last year while the bill was being debated. “Our schools should be a place for children to learn, to not feel like they are being pushed or seen as agendas in one way [or] another as it pertains to political beliefs,” he said. Last June, Lee also expressed disapproval for the state’s National Hockey League (NHL) team, the Utah Mammoths, for unveiling a rainbow-colored Pride Month variant of the team’s logo with the caption, “Happy Pride!” In response, he vowed to introduce legislation to restrict public funding from private organizations that create rainbow variants of their logos or sponsor Pride celebrations, arguing that accepting government funding should require “political neutrality” from private institutions. In 2022, investigative reporters from the Salt Lake Tribune discovered Lee was secretly running a social media account that promoted election conspiracy theories and attacked women and LGBTQ+ people. Stevenson has been quiet about his views on LGBTQ+ rights, but unlike Lee, he does not reference so-called culture war issues as a priority on his campaign site. Lee’s site touts his support of parental rights, which is a conservative dog whistle for eliminating LGBTQ+ curricula and rolling back protections for LGBTQ+ students. He also puts forth his “pro-life” stance as well as his support of “election integrity efforts,” playing into the president’s conspiracy theory that American elections are “rigged.” Stevenson, on the other hand, lists four main priorities: remove the state tax on Social Security; reform property taxes; attainable housing for our children and grandchildren; and smart water policy. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTom Brady calls former NFC rival 'greatest passer' in notable praiseFormer New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is widely considered the best quarterback of all time. However, when it comes to the greatest passer of the football, the seven-time Super Bowl winner believes no one does it better than Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. "Love Aaron [Rodgers]. I think there’s no greater passer of the football than Aaron Rodgers," Brady admitted on the “Stick to Football” podcast. "There’s certain people, you see everyone do it, and then you see one person throw the ball that much better. Aaron Rodgers was incredible.“Hard to put into words how incredible he passes the ball. The way it comes out of his hand, the way that it spins and delivers with the pace and with the accuracy… There’s only probably three people in the history of the NFL that could do it like him.”Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer with over 66,000 passing yards, 527 touchdowns and 123 interceptions over a 21-year career. The four-time NFL MVP and former Super Bowl champion has stood the test of time in the league by managing to compete with new faces and future stars. He threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions with the Steelers last season. But Brady's awe of Rodgers stems from the incredible arm talent, which can't be denied on the football field. The angles and delivery, while standing still in the pocket or on the move, were clearly a cut above the rest in Rodgers' prime. There are still moments when he spins it and makes the world remember he isn't retired yet, even at age 42. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrancisco Lindor to be activatedFrancisco Lindor will be activate for Game 2 of today’s doubleheader against the Cubs, per Steve Gelbs. The team has been insistent that Lindor would be back in major league action this month and it seems that time table has come to fruition.Lindor has been out since April 22nd with a calf strain of unspecified severity (with Lindor oddly claiming he’d prefer not to know the grade). He first got into rehab games last Friday (6/19) and went a cumulative 3-for-13 with three singles, a walk, a strikeout, and one steal. That was apparently all Lindor felt he needed to get ready for major league action, though the lingering concern will of course be his tendency to push to play when not at 100%.At 34-44 and in the midst of a 4-game losing streak, Lindor’s return is quite possible the Mets’ last, best hope to salvage their 2026 season. Despite being 10 games under .500, the Mets are somehow only 7 games back of a wild card spot, though there are six teams between them and the Cubs in the 3rd wild card spot. Replacing Zack Short and some of Brett Baty’s playing time with Lindor will certainly help, though Lindor was batting only .226/.314/.355 (93 wRC+) at the time of his injury and showing some troubling markers of decline. Hopefully he can stave off father time a bit longer and help propel the Mets on a little run heading into the All Star break.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCubs manager Craig Counsell perplexed by rainout and irked by ‘terrible rule’NEW YORK — After his team got rained out two days in a row, Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell sounded a little miffed about the second one.Hours later, he was criticizing a major league rule that led to his ejection following an unusual play.Chicago’s series opener against the Mets in New York was postponed because of poor weather and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader at Citi Field.Counsell and the Cubs also got washed out back home at Wrigley Field when they were supposed to wrap up a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. That game will be made up Aug. 6.“Look, consecutive rainouts are, they’re troublesome for pitching, for sure. And frankly, yesterday’s game did not need to be rained out. It didn’t rain, and for some reason we didn’t play,” Counsell said in the dugout, with a tarp covering the infield on another drizzly day in Queens. There were a couple of heavy thunderstorms around Citi Field in the late afternoon and after 11 p.m. It was a wet day throughout with light showers and mist — but the rain mostly stopped between about 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.First pitch had been scheduled for 7:10 p.m., but the game was called approximately 40 minutes before that. In their news release, the Mets announced the game was “postponed due to weather.”It was the first time the Cubs had back-to-back games postponed because of weather since April 2018 — and the first time in different cities since early October 1986.Counsell was asked if he sought any sort of explanation.“Major League Baseball tells you the game’s canceled, and that’s it. Especially on the road. That’s all you get,” he said.Shota Imanaga had been scheduled to start for Chicago against Japanese countryman Kodai Senga, but with all the uncertainty during the evening about whether the game would be played, the Cubs ended up having Imanaga throw a bullpen and pushed his turn back.“Just to give him a chance to touch the mound and be a little more in routine,” Counsell said.Edward Cabrera started against Senga in the opener of a four-game series, which began following an 11-minute rain delay. Cabrera hurt his left leg in a 9-6 victory and is headed to the injured list.“You stack a doubleheader, which affects — you’re not going to have enough starters available, so we’re either going to end up with a bullpen game or we’re going to call up (someone) later in the week,” Counsell said before the game.Getting heatedIn the seventh inning, Michael Busch drew a one-out walk for the Cubs that appeared to advance Pete Crow-Armstrong from first base to second.Crow-Armstrong was running on the full-count pitch, however, and slid headfirst into second as Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez threw down. New York manager Carlos Mendoza challenged the play, and a replay review determined Crow-Armstrong was tagged out when he lost contact with second base at one point. So even though Busch walked, his teammate was out at second.“No comment. Pretty confusing stuff,” said Crow-Armstrong, who was ushered away from umpires when he attempted to argue.Counsell got an explanation from the umps about what Mendoza was challenging. But when the call was overturned, Counsell came back onto the field and argued, waving his hand dismissively. That’s when he got ejected.“Umpires interpret rules correctly. They don’t get that stuff wrong,” Counsell said. “It’s a bad rule. It’s a terrible rule. I mean, I don’t know what else to say. Like, not a good rule.”New arm in the ‘penJayden Murray reported to the Cubs and was added to their bullpen after the right-hander was acquired from the Houston Astros in a trade for minor league first baseman Cameron Sisneros.“This is a guy that’s had a lot of success in the minor leagues. He’s pitched really well in the minor leagues. In the big leagues, he’s gotten just a limited opportunity,” Counsell said. “We’ve got options, obviously, so there’s going to be some flexibility, but we like his performance right now in the minor leagues and think he’s ready to pitch big league innings.”Murray made his Cubs debut in the ninth and gave up three runs, including Bo Bichette’s homer, before getting the final out.To open a roster spot, Chicago optioned right-hander Gavin Hollowell to Triple-A Iowa.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 13 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр
