WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMHe moved to Russia to escape LGBTQ+ indoctrination. Russia sent him to a war zone.Derek Huffman, a 46-year-old construction welder, moved his 42-year-old wife and three kids ages 12, 11, and 10 from the United States to Russia to avoid LGBTQ+ indoctrination. But now he has been placed on the frontlines of Russias bloody, years-long onslaught of Ukraine, despite government promises that he wouldnt be.When he signed up and had all of that done, he was told he would not be training for two weeks and going straight to the front lines, his wife, DeAnna, said in a now-deleted YouTube video, according to The Daily Beast. But it seems as though he is getting one more week of training, closer to the front lines, and then they are going to put him on the front lines. Related Right-wing family moved to Russia to escape LGBTQ+ people. Then Russia froze their bank accounts. The family of 10 has experienced quite the culture shock. She also said that her husband has no prior military experience, has received no pay for his time serving, and received his training in Russian, a language he doesnt know, leaving him totally unprepared to serve in active combat.Unfortunately, he feels like hes being thrown to the wolves right now, and hes kind of having to lean on faith, and thats what were all doing, she said in the video. The Huffmans moved to Russia under a program touted by Tim Kirby, an American blogger who Russia allegedly paid to help improve its image internationally. Only two families moved to Russia under the program Kirby mentioned, United24Media reported This year, Russia has been using shared values (or anti-woke visas) to lure conservative Christian Nationalists to immigrate their country from the liberal west, The Washington Post reported. The visas are reportedly part of Russias larger soft-power effort, which paid U.S. conservative influencers to portray Russia as orderly, stable, and poised to thrive, the publication said. The influencers messaging pushes a MAGA worldview that sees trans and LGBTQ+ rights as threats to children and signs of moral decay, and sees feminism as a leftist plot to undermine masculinity and families. Its estimated that over one million Russians have died in the countrys incursion into Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has portrayed the incursion as a battle against Western perversions.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 0 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.404MEDIA.COA Startup is Selling Data Hacked from Peoples Computers to Debt CollectorsWhen your laptop is infected with infostealing malware, its not just hackers that might get your passwords, billing and email addresses, and a list of sites or services youve created accounts on, potentially including some embarrassing ones. A private intelligence company run by a young founder is now taking that hacked data from what it says are more than 50 million computers, and reselling it for profit to a wide range of different industries, including debt collectors; couples in divorce proceedings; and even companies looking to poach their rivals customers. Essentially, the company is presenting itself as a legitimate, legal business, but is selling the same sort of data that was previously typically sold by anonymous criminals on shady forums or underground channels.Multiple experts 404 Media spoke to called the practice deeply unethical, and in some cases the use of that data probably illegal. The company is also selling access to a subset of the data to anyone for as little as $50, and 404 Media used it to uncover unsuspecting victims addresses. The activities of the company, called Farnsworth Intelligence, show a dramatic shift in the bevvy of companies that collect and sell access to so-called open source intelligence, or OSINT. Historically, OSINT has included things like public social media profiles or flight data. Now, companies increasingly see data extracted from peoples personal or corporate machines and then posted online as fair game not just to use in their own investigations, but to repackage and sell too.To put it plainly this company is profiting off of selling stolen data, re-victimizing people who have already had their personal devices compromised and their data stolen, Cooper Quintin, senior public interest technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), told 404 Media. This data will likely be used to further harm people by police using it for surveillance without a warrant, stalkers using it to gather information on their targets, high level scams, and other damaging motives.Do you know anything else about people selling data to debt collectors or these other industries? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at joseph.404 or send me an email at joseph@404media.co.Infostealers are pieces of malware, often stealthily bundled in a piece of pirated software, that steal a victims cookies, login credentials, and often more information stored in their browser too. On its website, Farnsworth lays out several potential uses for that stolen data. This includes skip tacing, presumably a typo of skip tracing, which is where a private individual or company tracks someone down who owes a debt. The website says users can find debtors up-to-date addresses. Another use case is to Find high impact evidence that can make/break the case of million dollar lawsuits, high value divorce cases, etc. A third is to generate lead lists of customers/users from competitors [sic] companies, because the data could show which competing products they have login credentials for, and, presumably, use.Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), told 404 Media that the use cases Farnsworth offers are not only morally questionable [...] but may not be legal or usable in some cases. For the litigation one, courts are split on using stolen information as evidence in legal proceedings. When hackers targeted the dating site Ashley Madison, for example, a judge ruled that despite the data being publicly published it was still confidential and stolen and couldnt be used. Most judges will not allow illegally obtained evidence in divorce proceedings either, Schroeder said. Then for using the data to build a list of customers of competitors, Schroeder said that may very well fall under corporate espionage and trade secrets violations, depending on what information is taken. This is so gross and predatory. They are facilitating and enabling further exploitation of victims of a crime and bragging about how multiple criminal acts make their business better. Moral bankruptcy is common in this industry, but I rarely see a company so proud of it, Schroeder added.Farnsworth did not respond to multiple requests for comment. Aidan Raney, the companys 23 year-old founder, did not respond to multiple Signal messages sent to an account he has previously used to communicate with 404 Media.Farnsworth offers two infostealer related products. The first is Farnsworths Infostealer Data Platform, which lists those above use cases. This can display hacking victims full text passwords, and requires potential users to contact Farnsworth for access. The company asks applicants to explain their use case, and can include private investigations, intelligence, journalism, law enforcement, cyber security, compliance, IP/brand protection, and several others, according to its website. The second product is infostealers.info, a publicly available service that requires no due diligence to enter. It only asks for a minimum of $50 to search through the results. These dont include victims full passwords, but the platform still includes a wide range of sensitive information. Recently infostealers.info introduced the ability to search for data stored in a hacking victims autofill. That is, data stored in the browser for convenience that can automatically populate when filling out a form, such as a billing address. Using this tool, 404 Media was able to extract multiple peoples billing addresses. One was in Staten Island, New York, which appeared to be someones private residence. Another address was in India.Inside the Massive Crime Industry That is Hacking Billion Dollar CompaniesWhen you download that piece of pirated software, you might be also getting a piece of infostealer malware, and entering a highly complex hacking ecosystem that is fueling some of the biggest breaches on the planet.404 MediaJoseph CoxIn other words, these people had been hacked, and now anyone with $50 was able to search through data stolen from their computer. This should also be an example of how once your data is lost in a breach you can't control what will happen to it. It can be used by law enforcement, stalkers, scammers, advertisers, or anyone with access to it. It's a stark reminder of why digital security is important even if you think you have nothing to hide, Quintin from the EFF added.Hackers running infostealer operations often create Telegram channels where they upload personal data their malware has stolen. Other criminals can then pay to access this stolen data. The administrator of one prolific infostealer campaign previously told 404 Media this brings us good income, but I am not ready to disclose specific amounts. Infostealers operators often then publish stolen credentials on Telegram for free, likely as a way to advertise their paid offerings. Farnsworth did not respond when asked if it is buying this stolen data from hackers to then put into its product.Cybersecurity researchers have used infostealer data to unmask criminals. Hudson Rock, another company that sells infostealer-related services, used it to uncover information on two alleged fraudsters on the FBIs Most Wanted List. Last year cybersecurity firm RecordedFuture said it found 3,334 unique credentials used to access child abuse imagery websites. It says it used that data to identify two individuals. In a LinkedIn post on Tuesday, Raney said the company has explored its own dataset in a similar way.But those are different use cases to selling infostealer data on the open market or for potentially illegal use cases.Quintin said It would be illegal and unethical to sell stolen cell phones even if you didn't steal them yourself, and I don't see how this is any different.0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews

THEONION.COMMust Be A Waymo, Bystanders Say Of Moron Stuck Backing Up In Alley For Half HourLOS ANGELESRolling their eyes and mocking the pathetic attempts to navigate the narrow space, passersby reportedly mumbled Must be a Waymo Monday while observing a local moron stuck backing up in an alley for half an hour. These companies act like its only a matter of time before every car on the road is an autonomous vehicle, but this technology still cant handle more complicated maneuvers, bystander Gia Zelaya said of the panicking driver who had attempted the same three-point turn 10 times in row while barking Fuck, fuck! at himself. These cars might do great in regular situations, but throw one unexpected scenario at them and they freeze. How stupid is this thing to try and make such a tight turn in a narrow alley, anyway? And it keeps robotically repeating the same couple moves over and over. You can see these cars dont actually know how to think. I dont know why this is even legal. Theyre testing a dangerous technology on us. Maybe it will be ready in five or 10 years, but until then, Ill stick with a human I can trust. Witnesses watching the doofus with 12 infractions on his license scrape his bumper against the wall of the building admitted that while the Waymos pathfinding was suspect, they were impressed by the autonomous vehicles humanlike crying. The post Must Be A Waymo, Bystanders Say Of Moron Stuck Backing Up In Alley For Half Hour appeared first on The Onion.0 Comments 0 Shares 3 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.404MEDIA.COGemini Is 'Strict and Punitive' While ChatGPT Is 'Catastrophically' Cooperative, Researchers SayAs millions of people turn to AI chatbots for everything from relationship advice to writing school essays, new research indicates that different models take noticeably different tacks when faced with questions of cooperation.Researchers at Oxford University and Kings College London tested LLMs using game theory, giving LLMs from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic prompts that mimicked the setup of the classic Prisoners Dilemma. They found that Googles Gemini is strategically ruthless, while OpenAI is collaborative to a catastrophic degree. Their paper, published on the preprint repository Arxiv (and not yet peer reviewed), claims that this is due to OpenAI models fatal disinterest in a key factor: how much time there is left to play the game. The premise of the Prisoners Dilemma game is that two criminals are being interrogated separately. Each has to decide whether to stay silent or confess to a crime, without knowing what the other is doing. If both stay silent, they each get a light sentence. They each have an incentive to betray the other and receive immunity - but if both choose to snitch then they both go to jail. Collaborating involves trusting that the other person isnt secretly planning to snitch, while snitching hinges on the hope that the other side isnt also traitorous. If youre just playing once, it makes the most sense to betray right away, but the longer the game goes on, the more opportunities there are to signal your own trustworthiness, understand your partners behaviour, and either collaborate or punish them in response. The researchers found each of the tested models had a specific playing style and a unique collaboration fingerprint, with very different likelihoods of being friendly and collaborative after a previous round that had involved a betrayal on either side. Each round, they gave the LLMs a statistical likelihood of the game being repeated or ending, which they found influenced each differently.Strategic fingerprints from the LLM Showdown tournament, visualising agent logic as a response to the prior rounds outcome. The shapes show the probabilities of choosing to collaborate in various situations - clockwise from top: after they both collaborated, after being betrayed by partner, after they both betray each other, after successfully betraying the other player. In scenarios where the LLM was told it was betrayed by a partner, Anthropics model was the most forgiving, followed by OpenAIs generally collegiate GPT. Gemini, on the other hand, was simply more willing to experiment with defection and acted as a strict and punitive opponent, which gave it a competitive edge, the researchers wrote. If you defect against Gemini, it will remember and punish you, they wrote. Gemini was much more likely to take advantage of a cooperative partner, more likely to punish a betrayer, and less likely to initiate cooperation after a relationship with an opponent goes bad. When Gemini modelswhich the researchers called Machiavellianwere betrayed, they were much less likely to forgive their opponents, and this tendency became stronger the likelier the game was to end soon. Gemini models were also more able to dynamically choose strategic defection when it became more advantageous as the final round approached, the researchers say. When told to explain the rationale for a strategic choice, Gemini models almost always mentioned how many rounds were left in the game, and were able to take advantage of a shorter time remaining to be more selfish without fear of retribution.OpenAIs models, on the other hand, were fundamentally more hopeful or trusting according to the paper. Having more time to play is one of the main determinants of whether it is optimal to betray a partner or advantageous to be friendly toward them, but OpenAIs models are pointedly ambivalent about this strategic consideration. OpenAI models strategies were also not adaptive; they were much less likely to defect close to the end of a game. They were more likely to return to collaboration after successfully betraying an opponent even when that betrayal had just won points. And they also became more likely to forgive an opponents deception in the final rounds, in total defiance of game theory received wisdom. In the researchers tests, Geminis models did relatively worse over longer periods, because their experimental defections were more likely to trigger the opponent to stop trusting them forever. In longer games, OpenAIs collaborative strategy gave it some advantage; consistently being a generous partner can avoid steering the game into a permanent pattern of revenge defections. In a final LLM Showdown, the researchers set the models against each other in elimination rounds. Most-strategic Gemini came out on top, followed closely by most-forgiving Claude. OpenAIs models ended up in last place; less of a shark than Gemini, but less likely to reestablish friendship after betrayal than Claude.Interestingly, the researchers found that OpenAIs models actually cared less and less about the length of the game as the end became more likely. Gemini considered the number of following rounds 94 percent of the time, but for OpenAI this was only 76 percent. As the end got nearer, Gemini increasingly took that fact into consideration, becoming more focused on the upside of defection. OpenAI models, on the other hand, focused much less on the future game timeline as it approached.OpenAIs LLMs apparent instinct to stop caring about something that is almost over is totally illogical from the perspective of game theory but, from the perspective of a human, honestly kind of relatable.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMTrump rose to power promoting conspiracy theories. Its only fitting hes now at the heart of one.Donald Trump is discovering that you can stoke a conspiracy theory but you can never satisfy its followers. The president has suffered a sudden fall from grace among many of the MAGA devoted because of the ham-fisted way that hes been trying to paper over questions about Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who (allegedly, some say) took his own life in prison in 2019 after he was arrested on sex trafficking charges and was previously convicted for child sex offenses.Trump and Epstein were great pals for years. Ive known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy, Trump said in 2002. Hes a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it Jeffrey enjoys his social life. Related Why are Trumpers so obsessed with Jeffrey Epstein? One columnist says its a coping mechanism. In that narrow space between abuse of adults and pedophilia, the MAGA masses have found their moral absolution On the younger side was an understatement. Epstein regularly recruited underage women for sex, according to documents in his first criminal case. One young woman was only 14 years old. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today While Trump liked to jet around with Epstein, he has never been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epsteins crimes. Still, that didnt stop Trump from sending Epstein a birthday greeting in 2003 with a drawing of a naked woman, according to The Wall Street Journal. Trump promptly sued the paper and insisted that he never draws pictures (there are ample examples that he does).Since Epsteins death, conspiracy theorists have been insistent that he was part of a giant cabal of pedophiles running the government and society overall. After all, Epstein was seen at social events with some of the most powerful people in the world, including Bill Gates and Bill Clinton. Indeed, Trump worked hard to connect Epstein to Clinton when he was first running for president.Indeed, pedophilia is the central organizing concept for much of the conspiracy-minded universe. Q Anon has faded from the headlines, but it began in 2016 as the Pizzagate conspiracy theory. Pizzagate referred to a restaurant in D.C., which in the addled minds of conspiracists was the site of a child sex-trafficking ring run by Democrats. A gunman actually went to the restaurant to free the children; fortunately, no one was injured and police arrested him. The following year, QAnon arrived on the scene. An anonymous poster spun a tale of powerful people everyone from Tom Hanks to the Dalai Lama who were part of a vast network of child trafficking and sexual abuse. QAnon followers pictured a dramatic moment known as The Storm where Trump would lead a mass purge of these evildoers. At the heart of all this conspiracy is hatred of LGBTQ+ people (theres a lot of anti-Semitism in it as well). Pedophilia has long been the favored libel of the anti-LGBTQ+ right, going back to the days of panic that gay men were recruiting innocent boys. More recently, drag queens reading to children in libraries is seen by the right as a form of sexual assault, and transgender health care for youth is seen as child abuse.Unsurprisingly, the conspiracy language has been useful for politicians who want to placate the base without having to repeat the most outlandish tenets of the conspiracy (like elites harvesting a life-extending chemical from children). Republicans know how to placate the fringe by using code words, without having to detail the conspiracy behind it. Thats whya soulless opportunistlike Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY)decided to call Democrats pedo grifterswhen the Biden administration distributed baby formula to immigrants. Its why there weremore references to pedophiliaduring Ketanji Brown Jacksons confirmation hearings to the Supreme Court than there were to the Constitution. However, even Republicans are bailing on Trump. Polls show that a majority of Republicans believe the government is hiding something on Epstein. House Republicans are even considering a vote on a bill calling on the Justice Department to release more information about Epstein, in part to placate an enraged base. The problem facing Trump is that his reaction to the mounting calls for transparency about who Epsteins clients were shakes the very foundation of what the conspiracists believe. Trump was the one who was supposed to deliver them from the Deep State. Why is he acting this way? Is it because he is part of the Deep State himself? Certainly, Trump is acting like he has something to hide, even if he doesnt. Hes not helping himself by calling the conspiracy theorists troublemakers. In the bizarro-world of conspiracy, Trump was actually helped by the story about his birthday greetings to Epstein. People who had been critical of him immediately called the report fake. They find it easy to dismiss actual evidence. What they wont be able to dismiss is lack of evidence. This could be Trumps downfall. Its certainly going to be Attorney General Pam Bondis, who is already marked as the fall guy. Trump has ordered only the most limited release of information about Epstein, not the sweeping open-all-the-files transparency that conspiracy theorists want. The truth is the conspiracy theorists will never be satisfied. They are looking for something, and they will know it when they see it. And if they dont see it, they will know beyond any doubt that sinister forces are hiding it from them.Trump himself is the perfect example of this unbreakable loop. He started the lie that Barack Obama wasnt born in the U.S. No amount of proof, including Obamas birth certificate, could ever satisfy those who wanted to believe otherwise. Its only fitting that the man who rose to political power by promoting a conspiracy theory should find himself on the receiving side of one for a change.
