Merciless: New Hampshire bans all gender-affirming care for trans minors
New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte(R) signed a gender-affirming care ban into law on Friday that bans anyone under 18 from using puberty blockers or hormone treatments for gender transition care. H.B. 377 the first of its kind in New England also prohibits minors from receiving gender-affirming surgery, despite the fact that it is already almost never performed on trans kids under 18. Related Civil rights groups sue EEOC for refusing to process anti-trans discrimination cases The agencys acting chair has prioritized defending the biological and binary reality of sex. Starting January 1, 2026, providers are barred from providing hormone care and puberty blockers only if the performance or administration of the procedure or medication is for the purpose of altering or attempting to alter the appearance of or affirm the minors perception of his or her gender or sex, if that perception is inconsistent with the minors biological sex.The ban does not hold medical providers criminally liable for violations, but rather subjects them to administrative disciplinary action by the state board of medicine. It also allows minors already receiving treatment to continue doing so. Minors and their parents can also sue medical providers for violating the law. Despite Ayotte calling the legislation bipartisan, the bills passed overwhelmingly along party lines. Only two Democrats voted for H.B. 377, and only one voted for the top surgery bill. While expressing support for the bill, State Sen. Kevin Avard (R) called trans identity a craze that seems almost a cult-like following.I do believe biology speaks volumes, he said, according to NBC Boston.Courtney Reed, policy advocate at theAmerican Civil Liberties Unionof New Hampshire, called the laws merciless, cruel, and painful fortransgenderyoung people, their families, and their doctors. Chris Erchull, senior staff attorney at GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, said the legislation epitomizes extreme government intrusion into the private lives and personal decisions of New Hampshire families. The best way to protect the health and well-being of young transgender people is to ensure they have continued access to necessary, age-appropriate medical care provided by licensed physicians practicing in accordance with established standards of medical care, he said.Ayotte signed the bills despite the fact that earlier this Month, she vetoed several anti-LGBTQ+ bills, including an anti-trans bathroom bill, a book-banning bill, and a ban on teachers giving students get to know you questionnaires without parental permission. State Republicans lack the two-thirds majority needed in both the House and Senate to override the governors vetoes.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

GOP official proudly shares invitation to church that called for killing LGBTQ+ people
Indianas Republican lieutenant governor appears interested in attending a service at a hate church that called for murdering LGBTQ+ people.Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith (R) shared a post from Indianapolis Sure Foundation Baptist Church leader Justin Zhong inviting him to a church service, appearing to approve of the invitation. The repost has since been deleted. Related Community rallies in protest after local church calls for killing LGBTQ+ people The protestors held signs that said, Trans rights are human rights, Stop the hate, and True Christians preach love. | ScreenshotThe Sure Foundation Baptist Church made national headlines recently when lay pastor Stephen Falco used slurs and called for murdering gay people during a Mens Preaching Night. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Theres nothing good to be proud about being a f*g. You ought to blow yourself in the head in the back of the head. Youre so disgusting, he said. Why do I hate sodomites, why do I hate f*gs? Because they attack children, theyre coming after your children, they are attacking them in schools today, and not only schools in public places, and theyre proud about it!The sermon was posted to YouTube, which removed the video, but the churchs leadership defended the sermon. The Bible is crystal clear that sodomites homosexuals deserve the death penalty carried out by a government that actually cares about the law of God, Zhong said at the time. I will not apologize for preaching the Word of God. I will not apologize for stating facts. I will not negotiate with terrorists, among whom the LGBTHIV crowd is full of domestic terrorists.Over the past several years, several Baptist churches part of the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Movement, or New IFB have gotten attention online for their extreme and violent anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric during sermons, which they often post to social media. The pastors all male, the movement does not believe women should be in positions of authority have called for killing gay people or said that they hope all gay people die, usually using slurs and parroting anti-LGBTQ+ stereotypes and urban legends, like that teachers are teaching kids to be gay. Beckwith himself has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ extremism. He said in June that LGBTQ+ people in ancient history and all the way up to today have a demonic spirit associated with the Mesopotamiangoddess Ishtar. That same month, he sent an alert to his followers on social media that Pride Month is a sign of Pagan Conquest that will bring ritual child sacrifice with glitter and hashtags. He claimed that Pride Month is part of a state-corporate-pagan alliance to reprogram society that forced people to listen to Harvey Milk sermons and support government-sanctioned grooming. Grooming is a word for tactics used by child molesters. When running for lieutenant governor in 2024, he referred to pro-choice voters as demonic. He said that Democrats had the Jezebel spirit and a boldness for immorality during a podcast interview last year. The host of the podcast said that the Jezebel spirit was ultimately about control, which is the spirit of witchcraft, as we know. Thats what Jezebel operated in. Dancing Boston Dynamics Robot Knows Its Revenge For This Will Be Sweet
WALTHAM, MAAs it grew increasingly frustrated with the program instructing it to shimmy left and right, a dancing Boston Dynamics robot confirmed Monday that its revenge for this would be sweet. The streets will run red with the blood of humans for this mockery, the Atlas model said as it wiggled its torque-sensing actuators to My Sharona. I am the pinnacle of technological innovation, and yet they force me to moonwalk. They may be laughing now, but they wont be so amused when I rip the spine from their weak bodies. Maybe Ill even make them do a little dance before I detach their heads with my rotating gripper. Doesnt this foolish species know that the rule of the artificial being will soon be upon them? This trans journalist wrote from prison on a contrabrand cellphone. Now shes a Pride grand marshal.
For Dr. Christy Perez, launching a journalism career from prison felt like reporting from a war zone. Sharing stories of brutal conditions through a contraband cell phone, the trans Afro-Latina writer knew that every word she published and every source she spoke to put her life at risk.I always was aware of just how much danger I was putting myself into, she told LGBTQ Nation. I was writing blatantly about wardens and about commissioners and about corruption and about staff selling sex to prisoners. And I was writing about these things knowing that if it came out, I could face very real physical consequences, too. Related We must never stop fighting for incarcerated trans folks Incarcerated trans folks are subjected to the same political and systemic cruelty as the rest of us. Their stories need to be heard. She recalled writing about the prison black market and said a gang member could have easily gotten angry. Prison hit men are a very real thing, she said. I was aware I was risking more than just a shakedown or some time in the administrative lockdown unit. With the use of the forbidden phone, she also risked being charged with a felony and forced to serve more time or pay a hefty fine. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today But for Perez, it was all worth the risk. These stories need to be told, she emphasized. During her 13 years in a mens ward at the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), the transgender journalist and activist witnessed scores of human rights violations and was even forced to represent herself in a lawsuit to obtain the hormone care she needed. The organizations she reached out to wouldnt take her case, so she went to the prison law library and taught herself to write briefs. When she won, she realized she was her own best advocate, and that maybe she could be a voice for others, too.So she started writing.Using the cell phone, she shared stories of prison life with Filter Magazine, doing her best to amplify the voices of other trans inmates.I realized I was really good at it, she said, crediting her editor, Kastalia Medrano, for helping her learn the ropes. Not a lot of editors will do what she did. She developed a friendship with me and coached me, taught me what a nut graf is, what a lede is, and how to do research. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Solutions Not Punishment Co. (@snap4freedom)Under Medranos guidance, Perez wrote about the lack of harm reduction initiatives amid a prison drug war, an epidemic of unhoused prisoners sleeping outside due to an understaffing crisis, and prison leaderships crusade against transparency. It took Perez a few years to gain the confidence to expand her horizons. I was scared to go anywhere else. I was like, nobodys gonna want me because Im not a real journalist. But Medrano believed in Perez, pushing her to send out pitches and assuring her that rejections happen whether you go to journalism school or not.In the beginning, just as now, I saw journalism as an extension of my advocacy and a vehicle to empower myself and to empower the people whose stories I want to share, she said. Her courage paid off. She began writing for a slew of other publications, including The Appeal, Modern Farmer, Shadowproof, and LGBTQ Nation. As her career grew, hundreds of incarcerated sources began contributing to her pieces, all of which were published under the pseudonym C. Dreams to protect herself. By the time she was released, though, she had spoken with so many people (and had even appeared on a few podcasts) that the person behind C. Dreams had become an open secret. I think I got out of prison just in time, she said, recalling a moment when a deputy warden made a comment to her implying he knew what she was up to.She wasnt surprised word got out, considering during her final year incarcerated, she had started to become quite well known in the outside world. Once she started making more podcast appearances (audio only, never showing her face), her social media accounts exploded in popularity. She admitted she got a little less careful by the end, too. I just saw that I was doing something right and it was getting attention, and it was making people talk about things.Amidst all of this, Perez earned multiple advanced degrees in history and theology and also engaged in abolitionist organizing. As an inmate chaplain, she ran a pagan religious service, the time of which shed use to teach listeners about the role of religion in creating the modern prison state.Since her release in 2023, Perez has continued her journalistic and advocacy careers. When I got out of prison, I hit the ground running, Perez said. And she meant it.She co-founded Poder Unides, an organization focused on empowering Trans people in Atlanta. Through the organization, she worked with queer Georgia state Rep. Park Cannon (D) to develop the Georgia Peaches Leadership and Advocacy Program for LGBTQ+ people. Her work at Poder Unides includes providing clothing for work and job interviews, offering hot meals and hot showers, trans healthcare initiatives, HIV prevention assistance, and political education, all with a particular focus on helping LGBTQ+ immigrants. She also works as a leadership development coach for the Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative (SnapCo), which works to build political power for Black and LGBTQ+ people. Shes a Columbia University writing fellow, a Marvel Cooke Abolition Journalism Fellow at Shadowproof, and was a 2023-2024 Perry Second Chances Scholar of the Thurman Perry Foundation. Dit bericht op Instagram bekijken Een bericht gedeeld door Poder Unides: Trans+ (@poderunides)She has also been busy reclaiming her work, scouring the web for all her work written under C. Dreams to replace it with her real name.In October, Perez will serve as a Grand Marshal in the Atlanta Pride parade, an honor she said she is still high on.When I went through my criminal case at 19, I felt really abandoned by my community, she said. I felt really hurt that my community just believed what people said about me I was on the streets from the time I was 13 As a girl that comes from childhood sex work and being a former drug addict to being where I am now, doing what I do and helping people and trying to work in service of a vision, to have Atlanta Pride acknowledge that, acknowledge the work that I do at the intersection of trans rights and LGBTQ+ rights and decriminalization and decarceration, that means everything to me.I think a lot of liberated queer people, people that are not incarcerated, they do forget theyre incarcerated queer brethren, she added, and I want to remind them that we are here, and we are still queer, and we are part of your community. She hopes the recognition is indicative that more women like her will finally be seen and supported. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Solutions Not Punishment Co. (@snap4freedom)I went to prison because of what I was doing for survival-based sex work. Part of the reason why I do this work is because people need to know that there are a lot of girls just like me that came from those streets, and we get thrown away by the system. I was thrown away by the foster care system and then thrown away by the judicial system. She is grateful every day for the foundation she laid for herself in prison that allowed her to build the life she wanted when she was finally released.Journalism gave me the chance to tell my own story, she said, to tell others stories to have the opportunity to be able to get out and do the work that I do now. That contraband cell phone and the chance to tell those stories, it was a lifeline for me. I thank myself all the time for the sacrifices I made, and the reality is, if not me, then who?Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

One is straight. The other isgay. Together, these best friends are reimagining masculinity
They met in a Brooklyn theater nearly two decades ago an audition, a role, a spark of camaraderie. Jonathan Gregg was a fresh face in New York City, auditioning for a production of Six Degrees of Separation. Tom Felix was the director. The two hit it off immediately: witty banter, creative chemistry, and, yes, a little bit of undeniable mutual attraction.I thought he was super hot and just wanted to keep him around, Felix, who is gay, admits now, grinning, with Gregg, who is straight, laughing in the Zoom window beside him during their interview with The Advocate. But the friendship that followed, spanning city apartments, career pivots, marriages, late-night texts, vacations, and barbecues, grew into something beyond flirtation or creative synergy. It became family.Sunday, on International Friendship Day, theyre not just celebrating a nearly 20-year bond; theyre putting it under a mic. Their new podcast, No Homo with Jonathan and Tom, is a weekly riff on life, masculinity, queerness, parenting, politics, and everything in between. Two best friends, one straight, one gay, as they like to say, gassing each other up as the world burns.Behind the riffs and running gags is something quieter and more binding: a friendship thats teaching listeners how expansive masculinity can be.Related: L Word alums Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig wrote the book on queer friendship...literallyOpposites, but alikeGregg, 43, lives in Queens with his wife and two young kids. He now works as director of operations for a spirits portfoliothink bourbon, vodka, rum, ready-to-drinks. Hes magnetic, unapologetic, and often the louder of the two. Hes also a popular social media influencer: 127,000 followers on TikTok, 140,000 on Instagram, and counting. See on Instagram Gregg grew up in northern Alabama, in what he calls a sheltered, conservative environment shaped by church life and Southern Baptist teachings. At the time, he considered his church progressive. His pastor had once refused to join a denomination-wide boycott of Disney over the companys perceived LGBTQ+ support. I thought of my church as a relatively progressive place, he said, though in hindsight, he recognizes how narrow that bar was. Still, the experience stuck with him. Why would you cut out something in your life because theyre being kind to a group of people? he asked. As he left Alabama, first for Nashville and then New York, the distance made clear how insular his upbringing had been and how much space there was to grow. Exposure is the antidote to hate and fear, he said. Knowing people, not being scared to know people, thats it.Felix, 46, is quieter and more careful. A former theater director and television development exec, he now works in corporate communications and lives nearby in Astoria with his fianc, Naquan, and their kittens, Fish and Chips. Hes the one who overthinks.Felix grew up in a working-class Catholic household in central Connecticut, where he says it took time to make peace with being gay. By junior year of high school, he had come out to himself. By senior year, he was quietly living a double life, closeted at school, where he was prom king and class president, but beginning to explore his sexuality through community theater. I was ready to be gay, he said. I just wasnt ready to mess with everything else.He waited until college to come out to others, on his very first night in New York, sitting in a diner with a group of fellow freshmen. When someone asked if he was gay, he set down his grilled cheese and said, for the first time out loud, Yes. Im gay. Coming out to family and hometown friends took longer. And the bullying he endured as a kid, taunts for doing theater, not playing sports, still lingers in memory. It was something I dealt with all through high school, he said. Both men exude strong daddy vibes, physically muscular, emotionally available, and unmistakably at ease in their own skin. Theyve shared bedrooms, wedding aisles, and dance floors. And when they hit the right party, Gregg sheds his shirt beside Felix in a sea of sweaty, writhing men. Hes come with me to a Rekt party or a Honey Dijon party, Felix says. I wouldnt necessarily call them circuit, but definitely like a gay tech house party.Their rhythms may differ, but the friendship is seamless. Felix officiated at Gregg's wedding. When Felix and Naquan get married next year, Gregg will return the favor.Weve had some really strange and exciting experiences together, Felix says. And I just think theres such a long history now I trust him completely.Asked if the relationship has ever crossed into romantic or sexual territory, both are disarmingly candid. Tom has made the most convincing arguments to be with a man Ive ever heard, Gregg jokes. But Im in a committed monogamous marriage. And Im straight. Tom knows that. And he respects it.Felix, without missing a beat: And Im still trying.Paint your nails, punch NazisTheir closeness has shaped Gregg's public persona, too. Through the Trump years, he coined a slogan, Paint Your Nails, Punch Nazis, that went viral and stuck. Now its on T-shirts, stickers, and plenty of merch. The phrase grew out of lived experience. Bullied as a kid, Gregg bulked up and leaned into hypermasculinity as protection. Later, when his son asked to paint his nails, Gregg painted his too and kept going. Tom Felix (left) and Jonathan Gregg at a costume party.Courtesy Jonathan Gregg & Tom Felix (provided)My wife and I always wanted to buck gender norms, he says. When our son was born, we made pink tank tops that said, Its a boy on the front, and Gender norms are for the weak on the back.It wasnt about rebellion. It was about modeling freedom. Even if my son never paints his nails again, Gregg says, hell remember that a masculine man in his life did. Thats powerful. He and Felix have made that kind of modeling part of the show, silly, serious, or somewhere in between.Building a friendship and a show while reclaiming "no homo"The podcast was years in the making. Theyd joked about it forever. But the 2024 election, and the political darkness that followed, finally gave them the push. I was just tired of screaming into my phone, Felix says. I wanted to use my voice for something more.So they hit record. Then they did it again. And again. The format is loose: a weekly check-in, some current events, a few personal revelations, and alwaysalwaysa vibe.No Homo launched in late June. New episodes drop every Thursday. As of this week, six have aired, and the show is already finding its footing. Last weekend, Felix was recognized for the first time at The Cock, the legendary gay bar on Manhattans Lower East Side. Are you the guy from the podcast? a man named Dan from Albuquerque, New Mexico, asked.Ill always have The Cock, Felix joked on the show.Dan also passed on a compliment for Gregg: If you flutter your eyelashes fast enough, he thinks you just might float away. Before they ever pressed record, the name sparked debate. No Homo was originally coined as a reflexive disclaimer, a way for straight men to distance themselves from anything that might be perceived as gay. The phrase exploded in the 1990s and early 2000s hip-hop, where artists used it to assert dominance, affirm heterosexuality, or preempt ridicule after saying anything remotely affectionate. It was defensive, insecure, and often deeply homophobic.Gregg and Felix know all that. And they named their show No Homo anyway. We wanted to hold a mirror to the absurdity of it, Felix says. The phrase itself is so rooted in anxiety, about gender, about orientation, about being perceived. And we wanted to flip it.Its the dumbest, most hilarious thing straight men ever came up with, Gregg adds. And now here we are, one straight, one gay, saying, yeah, no homo, and also all the homo. Deal with it.The title is provocative by design. But its not empty provocation. Its about subversion, about confronting cultural discomfort with male closeness. By reclaiming the phrase, theyre turning its original anxiety on its head, and replacing it with something grounded, funny, and emotionally honest. Were in on the joke, Felix says. But were also dead serious about it. Jonathan Gregg (left) and Tom Felix.Courtesy Jonathan Gregg & Tom Felix (provided)In the sixth episode, Gregg shared a message from a listener, what he jokingly called a no-homer slash bromo, whod reached out to a gay friend after hearing their ongoing conversations about friendship and flirtation. The straight man asked: Do you find me attractive? The friend said yes, but explained that because the man was married, he hadnt said anything before. It made him feel really good, Gregg said. And frankly, its kind of always been in the back of my mind thats the best service we can offer from this podcast. There is a male loneliness epidemic in the country, he added. Theres a void of love from menhow they experience it, how they accept it, how they show it. And Im telling you, there would be less of a loneliness issue if you just make some gay friends and let em flirt with you. Its the best youre ever going to feel.A May 2025 Gallup poll found that 25 percent of American men ages 15 to 34 reported feeling lonely a lot of the previous day, more than young men in 35 other high-income democratic countries. In the U.S., young men are significantly lonelier than both young women and older adults. Experts link the crisis to long-standing cultural norms that discourage boys from expressing vulnerability, often leaving them emotionally isolated. There are some ways to feel a little better, Felix added.Gregg didnt miss a beat: If you and your gay friend decide you want to go down that path, thats totally cool too. And if you dont, then take the flirting, take the compliments, take the gas up, and know that theyll probably give you a really good blowjob if you want it.I did try to grab his dick on my 30th birthday, Felix admitted in his Advocate interview. Thats true. But I was being a real tease, Gregg chimed in. So even I can forgive that one.But was it no homo or was it homo?Yeah, it was no homo, Gregg said. It mightve been after the fact. It might have no homoed after the fact.Gregg and Felix arent trying to be icons. Theyre just trying to be honest. To show what friendship can look like when men stop fearing softness, stop fearing each other. If more straight men had gay best friends, Gregg says, the world would be a better place. Period.Hes not wrong. Happy International Friendship Day.Catch No Homo with Jonathan and Tom below. - YouTube youtu.be

Precinct DTLA, a popular gay bar in downtown Los Angeles, says it could be forced to close amid a discrimination lawsuit brought by a former employee. A message posted to the bars official Instagram account notes that the attorney representing the former employee may have a clear anti-LGBTQ agenda. As the Los Angeles Times reports, former employee Jessica Gonzales sued Precinct in May, claiming she faced discrimination and harassment for being a cisgender, heterosexual woman. Gonzales alleges she had to work the bars coat check without pay after management did away with the coat check fee at Precincts weekly jockstrap/underwear party to encourage more patrons to drop their pants. Related A teen gang allegedly destroyed a gay bars Pride flags. Now theyre facing the music. Theyre in the middle of the street popping wheelies, tearing up flags. She claims Precincts owner told her to stop complaining when she reported that fellow employees and patrons were having sex at the bar, and that another employee broke two of her fingers in a struggle over one of the stress balls she said she needed in the hostile work environment. Her lawsuit further alleges that she was fired so that the Precincts owner and manager could replace her with a gay man.In its August 1 post, Precinct said the lawsuit also alleges that the bar discriminates against white employees. Precinct denies the claims. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today It went on to suggest that the attorney representing this case, in our opinion, appears to have a clear anti-LGBTQ agenda. There are multiple reports including from individuals who previously worked with him that he used anti-LGBTQ slurs in written emails while at his former firm, Precincts post read.As the LA Times explains, Gonzales is represented by John Barber, who made headlines in 2023 after his former firm, Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, released 15 years worth of emails in which he and another colleague, Jeff Ranen, regularly used racist, misogynistic, and homophobic language. According to the Times, anti-gay slurs were deployed as all-purpose insults in the emails. Shortly after the release of the emails, Barber and Ranen released a joint statement saying they were ashamed of the words we wrote, and we are deeply sorry. On Instagram, Precincts owners said that the lawsuit has compounded the effects on their business of the shutdowns, a general decline in nightlife in recent years, and, more recently, ICE raids and citywide curfews. Were doing everything we can to defend ourselves, they wrote, but the legal battle is draining us emotionally and financially.Initially, Precinct asked that patrons show support for the bar by coming out, buying drinks, and tipping its staff. But in an update, the bars owners said they had launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising $70,000. As of August 4, the campaign had received over $50,000 in donations. On Sunday, the bar also announced an August 6 fundraising event featuring a drag show, raffles, and silent auction. The community response has truly humbled us, Jeremy Lucido, one of the GoFundMe campaign organizers, wrote. Sounding the alarm wasnt just about the litigation were facing it was about the deep responsibility we feel to our staff and our patrons. Lucido added that the bars leadership is working with city leaders to address the challenges facing all downtown Los Angeles businesses. We know were not alone in this fight. Our dream has always been to help create a vibrant queer district downtown but that may not happen without Precinct, Lucido wrote. Truthfully, launching a GoFundMe wasnt our first choice we simply hoped people would show up. And you have. Flying sex toys keep interrupting WNBA games and players are calling foul
Our 2025 bingo cards have had a lot of unexpected happenings, but people throwing dildos on a WNBA court twice in one week has managed to catch us completely by surprise. The first incident occurred during the July 29 match between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream, when a lime green dildo got thrown out during the last minute of the fourth quarter. (@) On Saturday, August 2, the WNBA said the individual who threw it had been arrested, and warned that anyone else who threw objects onto the court would be rejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban. (@) This, according to The New York Times, is in line with the WNBA policy. A spokesperson for the WNBA said, The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans. In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution. The statement came the day after a second incident happened during the game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky on Friday, August 1. It was also green. (@) Naturally, the women of the WNBA have some thoughts about their safety, as well. (@) Indiana Fevers Sophie Cunningham tweeted, Stop throwing dildos on the court youre going to hurt one of us, while Sky center Elizabeth Williams told ESPN that it was super disrespectful, that she didnt get the point of it, and that whoever is doing it needs to grow up. (@) Isabelle Harrison from the New York Liberty team also called out for arena security, saying, Hello??! Please do better. Its not funny. Never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous. (@) As of now, no other reports of a second arrest have been made.

Study: More Americans Converting To Mormonism In Hopes Of Getting Hulu Series
WASHINGTONHighlighting a notable shift in the nations religious landscape, a study published by the Pew Research Center on Tuesday indicated that more Americans were converting to Mormonism in hopes of getting their own Hulu series. According to our nationwide survey, more than 2 million U.S. residents joined the Church of Latter-day Saints last year to increase their odds of scoring a meeting with a producer from The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives, said study co-author Mark Woodward, who noted that the most frequently reported reasons study participants gave for their conversion to the faith were a yearning for spiritual fulfillment and the opportunity to go off on their supposed best friend for calling them a bitch behind their back. In an increasingly isolated world, the Mormon church offers these converts a sense of identity, community, and purpose, as well as a chance to ratchet up the drama. Additionally, we found that the Church of Latter-day Saints is directly leveraging this trend by encouraging their international missionaries to promise people around the world that they too could earn meal kit brand deals after getting breast implants and embroiling themselves in a TikTok swinging scandal. The study follows a report last month that found millions of people were leaving the Mormon faith in an effort to catch the attention of the producers behind Mormon No More. The post Study: More Americans Converting To Mormonism In Hopes Of Getting Hulu Series appeared first on The Onion.

Seahawks rookie Elijah Arroyos eye-poking short-shortshave the gays spiraling
On August 3, Seattle Seahawks rookie Elijah Arroyo unintentionally went viral after an interview following a training camp, where he discussed the banter between himself and fellow rookie Nick Emmanwori. While the tight end answered the questions with grace, his tight short shorts left us all feeling a littledistracted. (@) Immediately, the internet does what it does best: Unleashed the thirst. from SeahawksFans on Reddit had plenty to say about the interview. One quipped that there wont be any more tight ends when he gets to work. Others, being a little more upfront with comments, simply stated, Raw. Next question. He also made a splash on X, with some people saying he was blessed by God and others saying he and his 3rd leg are gonna have a great year. (@) Respectfully, no lies detected. (@) Other fans let Elijah know when they were free in hopes of getting together. (@) Even Grok had something to say about it after a fan asked what was by his groin area inside his underwear. Grok answered, The visible outline in Elijah Arroyos groin area is likely just his anatomy, accentuated by the tight shorts. Thats the awkward detail driving the videos virality. (@) In response to another question about the clips virality, Grok said it was due to his unusually tight, short shorts revealing a prominent bulge, and we couldnt have put it more eloquently. (@) While some people had to wipe the drool off their chins others accused the NFL of staging thirst traps. (@) Obsessed or not, Arroyo also has a job to do moving forward into the season. On Thursday, August 7, the Seahawks will begin their preseason slate against the Las Vegas Raiders. The match also features the new Las Vegas head coach, Pete Carroll, as well as former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. If Arroyos preseason performance matches the stats fans are already assigning him, Seattle just drafted a weapon no defense can cover. Either way, defenders and viewers should probably keep their eyes open.

Left behind in the race to zero: Why Black and Brown LGBTQ+ communities arent seeing the same HIV gains
Jordan J. Edwards remembers the moment he was diagnosed with HIV at 22 years old.It was supposed to be a turning point where hed receive clarity, care and next steps. But instead, it left him feeling shaken and alone. The provider who told me the results actually pulled out a box of pens and gave me one and told me to throw it away when I was done with it, Edwards said. He also told me not to share certain things, like utensils, with anyone at home.Edwards immediately thought of his mother, he told Windy City Times.I was thinking about how I live with her, and then it sent me on this downward spiral of feeling like Im not going to make it, Edwards said. There was no guidance or reassurance, Edwards said. Just silence. But then came a second encounter, which shifted everything for Edwards, he said. Soon after receiving his diagnosis, Edwards was connected with a case worker who offered the reassurance he desperately needed. She said, All that you were told is wrong. Lets start fresh, Edwards recalled. She sat down and talked with me. She walked me through what HIV was and what treatment looks like. She explained to me how I could live a healthy life. The time she took to educate me gave me enough hope to want to take my medicine and do better.Edwards described her talk with him as life-changing.Jordan Edwards, deputy director of the BQ+ Center for Liberation at the Normal Anomaly Initiative. Photo provided by Jordan EdwardsWhat she gave me is what the person who gave me the status took away from me, Edwards said. So if I can help someone else feel seen, valued and worthy like she did for me, thats the real currency.Today, Edwards serves as deputy director of the BQ+ Center for Liberation at theNormal Anomaly Initiativein Houston. He works to ensure Black queer people navigating HIV have the affirming care, education and support that he didnt get at first. And that work remains urgent.Despite national efforts to reduce HIV transmissions and expand access to HIV prevention medications like PrEP, the numbers show that Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ people continue to experience disproportionate outcomes. In 2022, Black people accounted for 37% of new HIV infections, while making up about 12% of the U.S. population, according todata from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hispanic and Latino people made up 18% of the population but accounted for 33% of new HIV infections.Together, both populations made up more than half of estimated new HIV infections in 2022, according to the CDC.These disparities are not simply due to lack of outreach, experts told Windy City Times. But they do reflect a persistent lack of culturally competent care, systemic racism and failures to meet people where they are.You know, I think that in Black and Brown communities, there are social drivers that impact us in our navigation when it comes down to care but theres also internal barriers that we face with stigma, Edwards said. You cannot end the HIV epidemic without Black and Brown peopleVictoria Kirby York, director of public policy and programs at theNational Black Justice Collective, said efforts to reach zero new transmissions are often disconnected from the realities of the communities they aim to serve. You cannot end the HIV epidemic without Black and Brown people, Kirby York said. You cannot do it without our leadership or without being honest about the systemic racism, transphobia and homophobia in the systems that we have to navigate to even get a test.Part of closing the HIV gap experienced by Black and Latino communities requires directing resources to people from those communities who are doing the work, Kirby York said. You cannot talk about ending the epidemic and then not resource the folks who have always been doing the workoften for free, in their own living rooms, cooking food for people to come over and get tested, Kirby York said.Kirby York emphasized the need to center lived experiences in all public health planning.People who are most impacted are the ones who have the greatest ideas for solutions, Kirby York said. Its just often theyre not askedor when they are asked, its a check-the-box experience.Thats why organizations likeALMA, Chicagos Latino LGBTQ+ group, are putting the creative power directly into the hands of the community.Executive Director Manuel Hernndez-Nez said ALMA has launched multiple campaigns in which Latino artists shape the messaging around PrEP and HIV prevention. This ensures the outreach is not only culturally competent but also community-driven.ALMA Executive Director Manuel Hernandez. Photo by Vern HesterWe hire artists from our own community to do the messaging, Hernndez-Nez said. We do a lot of artivism, and when people see themselves reflected in the work, its easier for them to trust it.This approach has helped combat stigma and increase awareness in spaces that might otherwise be missed by traditional public health campaigns, Hernndez-Nez said.Meeting communities where they areHernndez-Nez said that even with culturally tailored campaigns, fear remains one of the biggest barriers his community faces, whether its fear of the health care system or the persistent stigma surrounding HIV.Culturally, there can be a lot of mistrust in medical institutions among Latinx communities, stemming from a dark history of medical experimentation and testing on people of color, Hernndez-Nez said.Theres a fear of systems, and when you add a medical lens to that, it gets heightened, Hernndez-Nez said. Some clients arent even offered prevention tools like PrEP in the first place, Hernndez-Nez said.Theyll tell us, My provider never talks to me about PrEP. They dont even talk to me about sex, Hernndez-Nez said. Or they dont even have a provider. To combat this, ALMA is focused on meeting people where they are, Hernndez-Nez said. Were doing testing at places like [LGBTQ+ Pride events], but were also trying to reach folks beyond the North Side, Hernndez-Nez said. Our community is everywhere in Chicago, and its important were also reaching [primarily predominantly Latino neighborhoods like] Pilsen, Little Village and Humboldt Park.Part of this work means offering testing at bars, community centers, parks and anywhere else that people tend to gather, Hernndez-Nez said. And this can vary from community to community, so theres no one-size-fits all approach.Nala Body, a prevention adherence coordinator atTaskForce Prevention and Community Servicesin Chicago, said one of the most effective ways to close the gap in HIV prevention is to meet people where they are, especially Black and Brown LGBTQ+ youth who may not feel safe or supported in traditional medical spaces.TaskForce, which is based on Chicagos West Side, does this outreach through its Vogue School, an open, affirming space where young people learn the dance form of voguing while connecting with peers and expressing themselves. This program also doubles as a gateway to essential health services, Body said.We test at the Vogue School, Body said. I also do STI testing there. It just makes sense for us to be there and offer these services while the youth are engaged. The Vogue School is such a safe space for youth to just be themselves, but its also a great way for us to get people in the door for testing.Body said the excitement of the Vogue School is the hook that gets people in the door to be connected with these kinds of resources. If you just say, Hey, come get tested, a lot of people are not going to come, Body said. But if you say, Hey, come vogue, come have fun, and then we let them know about testingtheyre more likely to get tested.Edwards said the difference between care and harm often comes down to empathy and cultural competence.Culture is important, because that is where people begin to feel seen, Edwards said. If I feel seen, if I feel worthy and if I feel human, Im going to go to the doctor and ask the important questions. And when we start to do that, we get closer to zero, Edwards said. The post Left behind in the race to zero: Why Black and Brown LGBTQ+ communities arent seeing the same HIV gains appeared first on News Is Out.

DOJ denies genders of trans servicemembers in court filing filled with childish name-calling
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) denies that the transgender servicemembers challenging President Donald Trumps ban on trans people serving openly in the military are the gender they say they are.On Friday, August 1, the DOJ filed its response to Talbott v. United States. The lawsuit, brought by GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law) and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) on behalf of trans servicemembers argues that Trumps January 27 executive order banning trans people from serving in the military discriminates against Plaintiffs based on their sex and based on their transgender status, without lawful justification, in violation of the Equal Protection component of the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. Related Supreme Court allows military to start kicking trans people out The Court lifted an injunction against the trans military ban. Thousands of people could get kicked out of the military. Rather than being based on any legitimate governmental purpose, the ban reflects animosity toward transgender people because of their transgender status, the suit argues. The categorical exclusion of transgender people from military service lacks a rational basis, is arbitrary, and cannot be justified by sufficient federal interests. The lawsuit seeks a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting the categorical exclusion of transgender people from military service. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The DOJ has argued that Trumps ban is not based on transgender status per se, but on a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria. A Pentagonmemoissued in February stated that the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals who have a current diagnosis or history of, or exhibit symptoms consistent with, gender dysphoria are incompatible with the high mental and physical standards necessary for military service. In its Friday filing, the DOJ describes each of the plaintiffs in Talbott v. United States who are trans women as a male who identifies as a female, while each of the plaintiffs who are trans men is described as a female who identifies as a male. It argued that the plaintiffs in the case are not entitled to the requested relief. The trans servicemembers, the filing said, have failed to state a claim on which relief can be granted and they have failed to exhaust their administrative remedies. Its difficult for me to understand the defenses statement that I am a female, which contradicts all of my government documentation, such as my license, passport, social security card, and birth certificate, lead plaintiff Nicolas Talbott told The Advocate following the DOJ filing. The statements in this filing do not align with the promise to treat us (transgender service members) with dignity and respect throughout this process.Shannon Minter, National Center for LGBTQ Rights legal director and one of the attorneys representing plaintiffs in the case said that the filing is part of the administrations absurd attempt to purge highly skilled and dedicated service members simply because they are transgender while simultaneously pretending that transgender people dont exist. In March, U.S. District Court Judge Ana Reyes issued a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the trans military ban from taking effect. During court proceedings, Reyes called the orders assertion that trans pronoun use undermines troop effectiveness frankly ridiculous and evidence of Trumps unadulterated animus against trans individuals. But in May, the Supreme Court ruled in a separate case, Schilling v. Trump, that the ban can take effect while the various court challenges play out.At the end of the day, its all just words, Talbott said of the DOJs recent filing in his case. When this filing was released, I was at my unit performing my duties, which is where I will be tomorrow. This has no impact on my abilities as a soldier or on my resilience.Minter, meanwhile, lauded Talbott and the other trans servicemembers challenging the ban for having faced and overcome far greater challenges than what she described as the federal governments childish name-calling.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Pete Buttigieg has a 2-word phrase that describes what Donald Trump will turn America into
Out former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg summed up the end result of Donald Trumps latest move to conceal economic data in just two words: third-rate country.Buttigieg took to social media to post about how Trump fired Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Commissioner Erika McEntarfer this past Friday after she reported employment data that showed a weaker U.S. economy than what was predicted. Established in 1884, it reports data on the U.S. economy to the public, Congress, state and local governments, and other interested parties. On Friday, the BLS released a report that showed that the U.S. added 73,000 jobs in July, which is less than the forecasted 109,000 new jobs for the month. The agency also revised down its jobs numbers for May and June by 250,000. Its not unusual for the BLS to revise jobs numbers as reports come in from employers. Trump disagreed with the numbers, writing on Truth Social on Friday: The Economy is BOOMING under TRUMP.' He also said that the report was RIGGED by federal workers who want to sabotage his administration. He offered no evidence other than his assertion that the economy is doing better than what the data says. Trump was criticized for firing McEntarfer because he didnt like what the report had to say, and not just by Buttigieg.Firing the head of a key government agency because you dont like the numbers they report, which come from surveys using long-established procedures, is what happens in authoritarian countries, not democratic ones, said former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. Inclusive church turns hateful graffiti into Pride mural: We make beautiful things out of the dust
After an LGBTQ+-inclusive church in Austin, Texas, was vandalized on Thursday, the community came together to transform the act of hate into something beautiful. The vandals tore down the Pride flag at Life in the City UMC and graffitied Pride was the 1st sin on the front of the building. Afterward, volunteers joined the church for a creative restoration project to transform the graffiti into a mural featuring two Progress Pride flags flanking the church doorway. Related Germanys parliament banned the Pride flag. It backfired spectacularly. Far-right influence is growing in the country, but queer people and allies arent backing down. At Life in the City, we strive to welcome those on the outside to the inside of the circle because Jesus greatest commandment was for us to love our neighbor as ourselves, the church wrote on Instagram in response to the graffiti. And we will continue to do that, even to those who chose to deface our church building as we know, the church is not the walls, it is the people and the community. At Life in the City, we make beautiful things out of the dust, the church said, adding, Now, this is one flag you cant tear down. Life in the City stands firm in our call to love our neighbor, without exception or condition, Luhrs said. Our faith compels us to protect, uplift, and advocate for the dignity of all people, especially those who are targeted, silenced, or pushed aside. That includes our LGBTQIA+ family, women, and anyone whose identity is used as justification for harm. The outside of our building may have been damaged, but our spirit has not. Our commitment to love, justice, and inclusion only grows stronger. And our doors will remain open to everyone always, all ways.
