Carlos Mendoza talks Mets' 'scuffling' lineup: 'We gotta figure it out'
During their three games in Miami, the Mets managed to score just two runs, culminating with getting shut out in Sunday’s series finale to finish off a sweep at the hands of the Marlins who began the series in the NL-East cellar.Despite at least one baserunner in every inning on Sunday, New York, without Juan Soto because of an illness, couldn’t get the big hit and finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position while leaving 10 men on base. The Mets’ lack of offense looked eerily similar to how it looked when Soto was out with a calf injury and when they were losing 12 in a row.“We’re scuffling,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “We got a lot of guys that are going through it right now, we’re not grinding [out] at-bats… We gotta figure it out because you gotta be able to score runs.”While nobody in the lineup is safe from criticism, one player, in particular, who had a tough series and a rough road trip was Marcus Semien.Semien finished the weekend series 0-for-10 after an 0-for-4 performance on Sunday and has struggled all season long in his first year in Queens after coming over in an offseason trade with the Texas Rangers. Now in his age-35 season, Semien is hitting .214 with a .560 OPS, tied for the eighth-worst mark in MLB among qualified hitters. Right behind Semien is his teammate Bo Bichette (.581 OPS).“What I’m feeling is I’m putting the ball in play but not driving the ball,” Semien said. “Like I said, that's a good pitching staff over there so just trying to do everything I can to be on time, be ready for high velocity and be able to handle the offspeed they throw. “Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get anything really in the air or in the gaps this series and ended up with a tough series.”Asked if he was concerned that age is starting to catch up with the veteran, who had even struggled in the last few seasons with the Rangers, Mendoza pointed to Semien’s track record and work ethic “behind the scenes” as reasons why he still believes in his second baseman.“This is a guy that continues to show up and continues to put the work in, day in and day out,” the skipper said. “You hope that at some point he’s gonna come out of it. He’s been in this league for a long time and there’s a reason why and we’re gonna continue to run him out there.”Where exactly the Mets go from here remains to be seen.Even with some injured players possibly on their way back soon, New York’s offense has been a problem all season, even at full strength.“We gotta find a way,” Mendoza said. “We gotta keep going here, we gotta continue to make adjustments because what we’re doing right now is not good enough. It’s as simple as that. “We got a few guys that are having a hard time, we’re having a hard time creating traffic, we’re having a hard time squaring the ball up and we gotta figure it out.”Mendoza added: “We can’t be making excuses because of the players that aren’t here. We have 26 MLB players who are capable of executing, but right now we’re going through a tough situation offensively. Obviously we can’t score runs and we’ve got to get back to the basics which is compete, have good at-bats and trust in the guy behind you. We have to create opportunities and right now we’re not doing that.”

Juventus 2 – Torino 2: Initial reaction and random observations
Juventus Serbian forward #09 Dusan Vlahovic celebrates after scoring a goal during the Italian Serie A football match between Torino and Juventus at the Olympic Grande Torino stadium in Turin on May 24, 2026. (Photo by MARCO BERTORELLO / AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty Images This is the bed that Juventus have made for themselves, and now they have to lay in it.The result is a 2026-27 season that will involve Thursday night football in the fall and into the winter, and who knows just how many roster implications that are still to come over the next couple of months. On a night that started with a kickoff time delayed by over an hour due to fan clashes outside the stadium and then security worries inside of the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, it almost felt like a perfect encapsulation of the previous hours before that the second half of the season-ending Derby Della Mole had absolutely no stakes attached to it other than pride. With Roma and Como both winning and finishing at a time of night that things usually would for the late Sunday fixture rather than close to midnight, Juventus’ Champions League hopes were officially dashed. The Opta supercomputer officially read 0.0% for Luciano Spalletti and Co., with Juventus now bound for the Europa League and a fifth-place finish. The Derby della Mole ended with a 2-2 draw thanks to Juventus throwing away a 2-0 lead after a Dusan Vlahovic brace in what could be his final game at the club. But it was the overall theme of the night — and especially the final verdict that was handed out as the Bianconeri were in the locker room at halftime — that will be the only real thing folks will be talking about in the days to come.Juventus got plenty of help over the past six weeks to see themselves actually jump into the top four and then stay there heading into last weekend’s home finale against Fiorentina. But, because they couldn’t beat a Viola side that had nothing to play for other than their general hatred of Juventus and had looked like they were on the beach for weeks, they entered the final weekend of the season needing even more help than that. They needed a miracle. And even then that didn’t feel possible. Not when they up 1-0 and the results might be looking somewhat favorable. Certainly not after Roma were able to hold on. And certainly not after Como put the hammer down and pulled away from now-relegated Cremonese. With the draw thanks to Torino’s second-half comeback, Juventus finished sixth place and behind a Max Allegri-coached Milan side that completely fell apart in the final three months of the season. Not even that proved to be something that helped Juventus. So, in the end, Juventus finished in the same place that they were when Spalletti arrived — sixth place.Finishing on 69 points isn’t nice. Nowhere close to it. Making #nice jokes about it feels completely idiotic considering the complete apathy about this current roster I feel after 38 rounds of Serie A action. They got here because they couldn’t beat provincial sides that had little to play for or had already been relegated. They couldn’t beat Como in either matchup this season in what proved to be a vital head-to-head matchup that dropped them into the Europa League spots. There’s so many reasons why this team find themselves with a sixth-place finish. They were in sixth when Spalletti arrived, and they’re sixth when this season ends. Ultimately, the problems with this squad go well beyond the coach, and who really knows just how many of those issues can actually be fixed in a summer where you know you won’t have Champions League income hitting your bank accounts come the fall and winter months. The fact is, though, this team doesn’t deserve to be in the Champions League next season. What about them says “Yeah, they do deserve it!” and that their current version puts them as one of the four best teams in Serie A? Nothing, absolutely nothing. This is the first time since the season before Antonio Conte arrived and the Scudetto streak got going that they didn’t qualify for the Champions League on the field. It feels pretty appropriate that this team couldn’t because, ultimately, they aren’t very good — at all. They can’t beat teams they should beat, they had a terrible month of February on top of the terrible start to the season under Igor Tudor, and then they completely flubbed away their chance to control their own destiny heading into Matchday 38.You don’t deserve Champions League football with the season Juventus just had.So it makes perfect sense that this team will be playing European fixtures on Thursdays rather than Tuesday or Wednesday next season. After all the bad things that have happened this season, in a weird kind of way it felt rater appropriate that the final 45 minutes didn’t even mean anything other than playing for pride and beating your city rivals. They couldn’t even do that. Instead, we saw a Torino team absolutely fired up to put one more stake through the heart of their big brother in black and white even when the dead horse had already reached its final breath. So good riddance to the 2025-26 season, you idiotic pile of crap. I will not miss you one single bit.RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONSOne last goal conceded on the first shot on target by the opposition. Just perfection. How perfect was it to see all of the commotion of the days approaching Matchday 37 about half the schedule playing at the same time only for it to be thrown out the window on the final night of the season. Yes, completely different timetables, but good to see that this league has absolutely no true leadership — again.I’m going to respectfully choose not to comment on everything that happened before the game when it comes to outside of the stadium happenings simply because there’s still a whole lot of contradicting information out there. That said, it’s just a sad situation all the way around. What felt like a very good atmosphere inside the stadium just developed into an awkward one.Vlahovic scoring his first brace since September in a game that ends up meaning nothing in the standings feels rather appropriate for the season (and Juve career) that he has had.If this ends up being Vlahovic’s final game at Juventus, then fine. At this point, this is the striker that he is. He’s no longer a young up-and-coming player like when Juve first shelled out all that money to sign him. He’s scored some good goals, but hasn’t become the striker that we all hoped he would be after making the step up to a club like Juventus that has so much pressure that comes with it. I’m sure Spalletti will want him back, but who knows if they will be able to make it work — especially with no Champions League next season. Just another giant question mark heading into a summer full of them.Mattia Perin’s first save of the night was a good one.Manuel Locatelli might have a powerful shot, but my lord is that guy completely inaccurate with it. Once again he unleashed a heater from his right foot, and again it didn’t hit the target. Just more of the same.Same goes for Juventus’ overall quality in defending corners. So it goes.Seeing Damien Comolli standing behind the goal closest to where the traveling fans were located and then seeing those same fans walk out because of everything happened before kickoff might be one of the more fitting images of this season. Just a guy who may well be seeing the fans walk out as he’s looking at his time at Juventus reaching its end. Also, the shot of Comolli and Gianluca Ferrero in the box during the final minutes with absolutely no emotion on their faces pretty much sums up how I feel about them, too.The only person who was showing some pissed off kind of moments was Giorgio Chiellini because that man knows when Italy is doing a whole lot of stupid crap that will impact the club he loves.Spalletti’s subs didn’t change a damn thing. That makes sense considering who he brought on.We didn’t get a Carlo Pinsoglio cameo even though the second half meant nothing at all. This is a giant disappointment considering the state of the game and how the result meant nothing.Play Pinsoglio for 20 minutes! Where’s the harm in that?I don’t really think much of anything is needed to say about this one because, well, it would just be repeating myself over and over again after a completely disappointing and awful season.Again, in conclusion: Goodbye to this rotten 2025-26 season. I will not have many good memories of it — especially as time goes on. Who knows how many times I will wear the home kit that came with this season going on the next few months. At least I got it on sale.

Rosenqvist wins Indy 500 in race's closest finish
Meyer Shank Racing won the 110th Indianapolis 500 - only their second win in IndyCar after success in 2021 [Getty Images]Felix Rosenqvist won the Indianapolis 500 by just 0.0233 seconds from David Malukas in the tightest finish in the race's history. The 34-year-old Swede drove Meyer Shank Racing to its second IndyCar win in a race that featured 70 lead changes, a record for the famous event. It is Rosenqvist's second victory since joining the IndyCar Series in 2019, with his previous success in 2020.There was a chaotic end to the 200-lap race, with red and yellow flags bunching up the field.Rosenqvist passed Pato O'Ward for first place shortly before Caio Collet's crashed car caught fire, prompting a red flag on lap 192. With close to four laps left, Marcus Armstrong and Malukas moved to first and second respectively before Mick Schumacher grazed the wall, resulting in another yellow flag. That led to a one-lap shootout, with Malukas passing Armstrong as the flags went green and holding the lead for most of the lap before Rosenqvist pipped him on the line.Competitors slowed on lap 18 to pay tribute to NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who died from severe pneumonia that turned into sepsis on Thursday at the age of 41.British driver Katherine Legge completed only 18 laps in the first leg of her 'Double Duty' attempt, the feat of racing in both the Indy500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 in North Carolina on the same day.She is seeking to become only the sixth driver to do it and will be the first woman, the first non-American and oldest competitor to do so.The 45-year-old was involved in a spinout in the Indy500 with Ryan Hunter-Reay and placed last, before flying to Charlotte to compete in the second event.Only one driver, Tony Stewart in 2001, has managed to complete the combined 1,100 miles of both events.

Patriots' Hunter Henry reveals underrated aspect of Drake Maye's second year
Patriots' Hunter Henry reveals underrated aspect of Drake Maye's second year originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will enter Year 3 with lofty expectations after leading his team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2025.Maye was superb in the regular season, going 14-3 en route to the Super Bowl, throwing 31 TDs to just eight interceptions, leading Josh McDaniels' offense. But that was his first season operating that sort of scheme, and it was wildly successful. Now, Maye will get another full offseason in that same system. And that is something that tight end Hunter Henry thinks could be big for Drake."I think the underrated thing he has this year is obviously going into Year 2 in the system is big," Henry said via ESPN. "This system demands a lot on the quarterback position. To have a whole offseason to be in the same scheme and really build on what he did last year, I'm excited to see the jump and progress he can make on a day-to-day basis."MORE: Jets' OC hints at offensive style for Geno SmithWhat can we expect from Maye in Year 3?Well, first, we have to be honest and expect a regression.Winning 14 games in consecutive seasons is tough, so the Patriots will regress a little, but they can still easily win 11 or 12 games.A tougher schedule will mean Maye will face higher-level competition in the regular season, but he, too, could regress a little, as throwing 31 touchdowns to just eight interceptions is tough to replicate, unless you're Aaron Rodgers. But the Patriots with Maye should be a playoff team, no doubt, and as for how far they'll go, that's unknown.Replicating what they produced in 2025 will be tough, but if they can get close enough to it, that's a good season in anyone's book.More NFL news:Buccaneers coach makes incredibly bold Rueben Bain Jr. predictionChargers fans will love GM's quote on Derwin James' futureBills' biggest offseason question aimed at 1 key playerRavens praised for signing 'ageless wonder' this offseasonBrowns QB Deshaun Watson facing career-saving season in 2026

Roger Penske just misses record 21st Indy 500 win
Indianapolis — Two one hundredths of a second. That’s how close Bloomfield Hills-based, 89-year-old Roger Penske came to winning his 21st Indianapolis 500 Sunday — and to his 24-year-old Team Penske phenom David Malukas winning his first. In the tightest finish in the 110-year history of the Indy 500, Malukas and his No. 12 Chevrolet-powered IndyCar was passed by Honda-powered Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist in the final stretch before the green flag in a wild, rain-interrupted, yellow flag-marred, 200-mph-pass-fest over 500 miles. The win was popular one for 34-year-old Swede Rosenqvist, one of the most-liked drivers in the paddock, but a heartbreaker for Malukas who just joined Team Penske this year."I mean, I don't know what else we could have done,” a tearful Malukas said afterwards. “We were the fastest car that whole race. I don't know. I gave it 150%, I almost crashed this car every damn lap and we still end up with a P2. I just can't believe it. I don't know what else I can give."FELIX ROSENQVIST WINS THE CLOSEST FINISH IN INDY 500 HISTORY! pic.twitter.com/BBGobsgX3I— INDYCAR on FOX (@IndyCarOnFOX) May 24, 2026Malukas' near-perfect performance confirmed his choice as a next-generation driver after Penske chose him to replace IndyCar legend Will Power for the 2026 season. After qualifying third, Malukas ran a consistent race in the top five all day while his more experienced Penske mates, two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin, battled through the field to join him at the front.McLaughlin finished third while Newgarden — after surging through the field from 23rd in qualifying to fourth place — hit the wall hard on Lap 125 and retired from the race.Reigning Indy 500 champion — and IndyCar series champion — Alex Palou looked poised for a repeat as he ran up front all day with Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon and the three Team Penske Musketeers shadowing him as the race went past halfway. But Newgarden’s crash reset the field under a long yellow period. While Team Penske stayed on their planned pit strategy, Rosenqvist and McLaren driver Pato O'Ward gambled on a fuel-saving strategy — declining to make a final pit stop in the hopes of beating the field to the checkered flag.Sometimes running 15 mph-a-lap slower to save fule, they tried to stay ahead while the freshly-topped-up Palou-Malukas-McLaughlin-Dixon train hunted them down. The race reset again with just eight laps to go when two consecutive accidents bunched the field up for a mad, one-lap dash to the finish.Rosenqvist won the drag race. O'Ward finished fourth after McLaughlin stormed from eight to third on the last lap. Palou slid to seventh."I give everything to this team,” said Malukas, who posed with family on the grid ahead of the race next to his front-row car. “We're gonna come back again, though. We're going to give it a 160% next time. Thank you everybody here. Incredible race. Thank you Team Penske, thank you Roger Penske for believing in me when no one else did."Henry Payne is auto critic for The Detroit News. Antonelli wins again to capitalise on Russell retirement in Canada
Kimi Antonelli now has a 43-point lead at the top of the drivers' championship after a fourth successive win [Getty Images]George Russell suffered a major blow to his title hopes as retirement from the lead of the Canadian Grand Prix handed victory to team-mate Kimi Antonelli. The two Mercedes drivers had staged a gripping battle for the lead, swapping places several times, and were still nose to tail when Russell's car suddenly stopped on lap 30.Antonelli's fourth win in a row, coupled with Russell's retirement for what Mercedes said appeared to be a power-unit problem, puts the Italian 43 points ahead in the championship - seven points off two clear wins.Russell's retirement was not only a bitter blow to the Briton, but it also robbed the race of a no-holds-barred battle between the two Mercedes drivers, the second in two days after a dispute during the sprint on Saturday. For the second day in a row, Antonelli complained about Russell's driving, accusing him of pushing him off the track. And shortly before Russell's race ended, both drivers had been warned to keep the racing "tidy" or they would be told to hold position. Before that, there had been several laps of frantic action and Antonelli appeared to have a pace advantage at the time Russell retired. With Russell out, that paved the way for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to contest second place - and Hamilton overtook his old rival in the closing stages to snatch it.The key stories of a thrilling race were:A dramatic twist in the title fight between Russell and AntonelliA dire race for McLaren after a mistake on tyre strategy at the startA first podium of the year for Red Bull's VerstappenFollow live reaction after Canadian Grand PrixHow thrilling battle between Antonelli & Russell unfoldedThe racing rivalry between Antonelli and Russell started immediately. Russell made a slow start from pole, Antonelli passed his team-mate, and McLaren's Lando Norris swept by both Mercedes into the lead from third on the grid.Norris, who had started the race on intermediate tyres, pitted on lap two, leaving Antonelli initially leading a five-car train of Russell, Hamilton's Ferrari, Verstappen and the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.Russell soon began to apply pressure on Antonelli and the Briton took the lead at the final chicane on lap six, Antonelli being forced to take evasive action through the run-off area as they entered the corner side by side.Russell appeared relatively comfortable in the lead for a few laps, until he locked up his front brakes into the hairpin on lap 12, allowing Antonelli to get pass him - only for Russell to reclaim the lead into the final corner.Antonelli tried again into the first corner and had to back off, but now Russell could not shake off his team-mate.Four laps later, Russell again ran deep into the hairpin and they went side by side into the final chicane, only for Russell to hold on again.Five laps went by before Russell again locked up at the hairpin and Antonelli passed for the lead down the straight towards the final chicane, only to make his own mistake at the hairpin two laps later and let Russell back into the lead.Antonelli came back at him on the outside into the chicane and was slightly ahead as they turned in, but he had to take to the run-off area.Returning to the race in the lead, Antonelli was ordered by the team to give the place back because he had passed off the track.Antonelli complained, saying: "Why? He pushed me off." But he did what he was told, before trying again at the chicane, only for Russell to hold him off. This was the point at which both drivers were effectively told to cool it by the team, and the fight calmed down considerably before Russell's retirement.McLaren instantly pay for bold tyre choiceMcLaren's race began to unravel even before the action got under way. Both drivers took to the start on the treaded intermediate tyres, despite a dry track, hoping to benefit from the cold conditions. But through two aborted starts caused by Arvid Lindblad's Racing Bulls failing to go into gear, Oscar Piastri twice asked to pit for slicks before the start had even happened, saying the inters were "a mistake".His engineers turned down the request, and the McLarens stuck with the inters, Norris using their extra warmth and poor starts from both Mercedes to take the lead. But the tyres were soon past their best and Norris had to stop at the end of lap two, Piastri having already chosen to do so at the end of the first lap.Norris made good progress through the field, moving up to ninth place before being told to pit - the team had to clear debris from a cooling duct. That dropped him down the field again and his race came to an end with a suspected gearbox failure on lap 39.By then, Piastri had already caused himself further trouble because of a clumsy collision with Williams' Alex Albon, for which he was given a 10-second penalty.Hamilton pips old rival Verstappen to secondEleven F1 titles between them, but Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton relished a battle for second place in Canada [Getty Images]McLaren's problems meant second place came down to a tussle between the two most successful active drivers in F1.Verstappen initially trailed Hamilton's Ferrari but passed with an audacious move into the first corner on lap 13.The Red Bull moved clear of Hamilton, but in the second part of the race, helped by two virtual safety cars, the seven-time champion was back on Verstappen's tail and they went into the last 13 laps with the Ferrari less than a second adrift.Hamilton kept asking his team for more power, but he kept his patience and at the start of lap 62, with six to go, he finally made it through, with a delicious move around the outside of the Red Bull into the first corner.Verstappen came back at the Ferrari, challenging into the first corner a lap later and pressured him for the rest of the race, but Hamilton held on for his best result for Ferrari in a grand prix, and Verstappen took his first podium of the year in third.Hamilton's team-mate Leclerc took fourth after a subdued weekend, and a race in which he had a massive moment out of the final chicane but managed to hold the car without spinning.Leclerc was so frustrated that with about 25 laps to go he asked his engineer for no more communication until the final lap unless it was for something urgent.Red Bull's Isack Hadjar took fifth place despite a late stop-and-go penalty for a yellow flag infringement, ahead of Alpine's Franco Colapinto, Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson, Alpine's Pierre Gasly, Williams' Carlos Sainz, and the Haas of Oliver Bearman who took the final point in 10th.Lewis Hamilton congratulated Kimi Antonelli at the end of a thrilling race [Getty Images]Top 101. Cougars rally for Section VII championship
CLINTONVILLE — To say the start of the game was uncharacteristic for NCCS would be an understatement. But with just five minutes remaining, senior Krista Sebert ran down the middle for a 6-yard score that completed a rally from down 13 to win the Section VII flag football championship, 18-13.While they had the lead, the Cougars needed a little extra magic. In comes Anna Racine. With seconds remaining on the clock, Racine busted through the Saranac offense, running toward Spartan quarterback Isabelle Bergevin. Racine reached out and pulled Bergevin’s flag, forcing a sack. The seconds ticked away, and NCCS players and coaches came together on the field to celebrate the comeback.“I knew there was only a few seconds left, and I knew that my team was counting on me to get that pull, that flagpole, that sack,” Racine said. “So I went all in, and I used my speed and did as fast as I could and got around and pulled it. and then there I see five seconds left, and the game is over.”That flag pull ended a comeback for NCCS that started midway through the second quarter.Through their first four drives, the Cougars managed just 45 yards of total offense. Sebert had completed more passes to the opposition (2) than to her own team (1).“We just needed patience, patience,” NCCS head coach Kristen Patnode said. “We’ll figure it out. We’ll figure it’s always a chess game, and we just need to see how they are going to come out.“It took us a little longer than I would’ve liked. Nerves got the best of them, and I think once they figured out, once we get into a rhythm, you can’t stop us.”With just over four minutes to go in the half, it clicked. The Cougars settled in and went to work.On the next two drives for NCCS, Sebert went 4-4 for 108 total yards with a passing and rushing touchdown.“Once we get that (first) touchdown, our heads just immediately lift up,” Sebert said. We got (the second) touchdown, but you know, once we got our heads up, we keep going, and our momentum just keeps, keeps us going.”Sebert showed off her skills on the ground in the waning minutes as she rushed for 25 yards on five carries. The last one being a 5-yard dash to get within one point with 12 seconds to go in the half.“When I see green, I go,” Sebert said. “The game’s not over until the clock hits zero. We’re in it, no matter what.”Sebert showed her skills, running multiple times — almost breaking a run down the sideline on the final drive for NCCS. Altogether, she finished with 14 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns.“We’ve told her that all season when you move your feet, teams can’t stop you, and that’s exactly what happened,” Patnode said. “I thought she was gone on that, like, 60 yard scramble.”And just as the offense started to click, the defense ramped up the intensity. Led by Section VII defensive MVP Lexi Roberts, the defense took it to another level as girls dove for flags on runs and passes to limit yards gained. One player in particular caused havoc for the offense and Saranac quarterback Isabelle Bergevin was Racine. She was the primary rusher on defense, whose sole purpose was to get Bergevin’s flag. The Spartans had less than 100 yards of offense and two interceptions in the second half.“We had some pretty crucial flagpoles,” Brynn Hite said. “Honestly, I was even nervous to the end, until Anna got that sack, and then I was like, ‘OK, this is ours.’”It closed another chapter in, as Hite called it, “the Northeastern-Saranac rivalry” that’s taken shape over the past couple of years. Some players on the field Friday could see each other again in softball sectionals, as players for both teams are dual-sport athletes. But Friday was for flag football. Sebert, Hite and Patnode all said the team would rest over the weekend before getting ready for a regional final.NCCS doesn’t have to travel far, as they’ll be back at AuSable Valley to host Section II’s Catskill.Gametime for NCCS vs. Catskill is this Saturday 6:30 p.m..“Our goal has always been the Final Four,” Patnode said.—Northeastern Clinton 18, Saranac 13SCS 7 6 0 0 — 13NCCS 0 12 0 6 — 18Scoring SummaryFirst quarterS- Bergevin 1 run (Terry pass from Bergevin), 4:08.Second quarterS- Brown 13 pass from Bergevin (pass failed), 4:07.N- Hite 19 pass from Sebert (pass failed), 2:08.N- Sebert 4 run (pass failed), 0:12.Fourth quarterN- Sebert 4 run (pass failed), 5:15.Individual statisticsRushingS- Hathaway 10-55; Bergevin 5-(-7), TD; Tompkins 1-6; Brown 1-5. ‘He told me no more...’: Jofra Archer explains how RR coach unlocked his best bowling rhythm
Jofra Archer revealed how a blunt message from the Rajasthan Royals coaching staff helped transform his bowling after the England pacer starred in RR’s crucial 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians. Archer delivered a stunning all-round display at the Wankhede Stadium, smashing 32 off just 15 balls before returning brilliant figures of 3 for 17 to help Rajasthan Royals secure the final playoff spot in IPL 2026. Despite the match-winning performance, Archer insisted he does not believe this has been his best IPL season. “It comes out by mistake,” Archer joked about his gold chain popping out during celebrations. “I always try to tuck it back in.” “Don't think it's my best year, I have bowled a little bit better than this. Every time you take the ball you just try to bowl good areas. Some days you're not going to get rewarded. Happy that we got rewarded on the day we needed to win.” The RR pacer then revealed the key tactical advice he received after the opening games of the season. “Coach's instructions - after the first two games I was trying to bowl slower balls. And he said, I don't care what you do, I don't want any more pace-off from you. I'm just listening to the coach now.” According to Archer, sticking to high pace has helped simplify his plans. “Your margin for error is a bit bigger when you go pace-on. Sometimes you have to deal with a few edges, but more often than not it's the safer option.” That approach completely dismantled Mumbai Indians early in the chase. Archer first removed Rohit Sharma for a duck with a superb outswinger before also dismissing Naman Dhir. He later returned to send back Hardik Pandya at a critical moment. Archer also admitted he was surprised to be promoted up the batting order after RR suffered a middle-order wobble. “I wasn't expecting to bat so early. Because of the impact sub I hardly get to bat. When the coach said put the pads on, I was surprised. I'm glad I was able to contribute.” His explosive cameo alongside Ravindra Jadeja helped RR add 73 runs in the final five overs and push the total beyond 200. “Well I class myself an allrounder,” Archer said with a smile after contributing in both departments. Late in the game, Archer also briefly worried RR fans after slipping awkwardly while fielding. Asked about his fitness after the match, the fast bowler quickly reassured everyone. “I'm very good right now, touchwood.”

Lewis Hamilton Reveals Ferrari Breakthrough After Car Finally Feels “Back to What It Used to Be”
It takes more than ambition to turn a difficult working relationship around inside a Formula 1 team. It takes the right engineers, the right setup philosophy, and sometimes the willingness to stop doing the thing you’ve always done. For Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, all three appear to have arrived at the same time – and the results showed up where it counts.Hamilton produced a brilliant overtake on Max Verstappen to claim second place at the Canadian Grand Prix, his best finish in Ferrari red. After spending several laps glued to Verstappen’s rear, Hamilton remained patient, applying sustained pressure through the closing stages before sweeping around the outside on lap 62 to complete a decisive and clean pass. The kind of move that, a few months ago, felt like a distant memory. After the race, Hamilton overjoyed with this newfound pace and confidence.“I think I finally have that with the engineers that I got and the setup within the team,” he said. “Much, much happier in the car. It feels more back to what it used to be.” None of it came easily in the race itself – with the driver noting the complexity of managing battery deployment in the new regulations meant every overtake required calculating energy reserves across multiple straights simultaneously, making wheel-to-wheel combat significantly harder than anything he’d experienced before.A New Prep Approach Transformed the CarHamilton believes he has found a new way forward in race preparation at Ferrari, having skipped the team’s simulator ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix and instead spending time working through data with his engineers. It’s a meaningful departure from the usual routine, and per Hamilton, it paid off almost immediately.“I was having so much fun out there, and also, the fact that I didn’t do the sim, and I feel it’s the best I felt all year,” he said. “So, I think that’s the way forward for me.”Hamilton chose a setup that, by his own account, Ferrari had never used before, and described it as having “transformed the car” for him.Ferrari still lack straight-line speed in Montreal – Hamilton himself admitted after the race that the competition’s power advantage on the straights forced him to claw back whatever he gained through the corners. But the underlying feeling in the car was fundamentally different to anything he’d experienced in his eighteen months at Maranello. If Hamilton is now consistently more comfortable in the SF-26, Ferrari have a better chance of converting one-car weekends into a double threat at the front. With Kimi Antonelli winning the race and George Russell retiring, Hamilton’s second place moved him ahead of Lando Norris into fourth in the championship standings. That’s not title-contention territory yet, but it’s forward progress of a kind that has been frustratingly scarce. The deeper question is whether Canada was a circuit-specific sweet spot or evidence of something more durable. Hamilton clearly believes it’s the latter. When he says the car feels like it used to, he means it feels manageable, predictable, his. After nearly two seasons of chasing that feeling, he finally sounds like he’s stopped chasing.

Mississippi State advances to first Women's College World Series with win over softball juggernaut Oklahoma
For the first time in school history, Mississippi State softball is heading to the Women’s College World Series — and they took down a Goliath to do it. The No. 5-seeded Bulldogs defeated Oklahoma 6-0 on Sunday, shutting out the No. 1-seeded Sooners in the NCAA super regionals and punching a ticket to Oklahoma City. After taking the first game of the best-of-three series 11-9 behind an epic late-inning comeback, Mississippi State faltered in Game 2, falling 7-1 to the dominant Sooners. That brought things to a decisive Game 3 on Sunday, which the Bulldogs controlled from the very start.Mississippi State pitcher Delainey Everett threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and three walks and throwing three strikeouts. Meanwhile, on offense, the Bulldogs steadily built a lead throughout the game, going up 6-0 in the fifth inning after a two-run homer from left fielder Morgan Bernardini. With Mississippi State holding that score heading into the bottom of the seventh, Oklahoma put two runners on base and looked to try and get some points on the board. But the Bulldogs picked up the final out, and immediately celebrated making history.HISTORY MADE‼️MISSISSIPPI STATE IS HEADED TO ITS FIRST-EVER WCWS 🔔 pic.twitter.com/c3V0ISRKwC— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) May 24, 2026Postgame, Everett spoke highly of her team and their grit.“An underdog is still a freakin’ dawg,” she said. “Everything that we worked for came through today, and we ain’t done yet.”"AN UNDERDOG IS STILL A FREAKIN DAWG." 😤#RoadToWCWS x 🎥 ESPN / @HailStateSBpic.twitter.com/UoIhYBjUdJ— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) May 24, 2026This was just the second NCAA super regional appearance for the Bulldogs, who made that phase of the tournament for the first time in 2022.Oklahoma, meanwhile, is a juggernaut of college softball: The Sooners have won eight NCAA softball titles, including four straight trophies from 2021 to 2024. Sunday’s defeat broke a nine-year streak of WCWS appearances for Oklahoma, who had made it every year since 2016.Additionally, the Bulldogs’ shutout was the first game for the Sooners without a run since 2019, snapping a 399-game streak without going scoreless, per ESPN.In the stands, Mississippi State has had an unlikely good luck charm: Broccoli Guy, a Pacific Northwest-based fan who is known for dancing in the stands with a head of broccoli in each hand. The fan, whose real name is Jim Stewart Allen, has inspired the Bulldogs to adopt broccoli as a symbol throughout their run. It’s unclear whether Allen will join the team in Oklahoma City, but it seems likely that they will keep the broccoli spirit alive.Don't worry... Broccoli Guy is here 🥦#RoadToWCWS x 🎥 ESPN2 pic.twitter.com/4ympCW4kcf— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) May 22, 2026They are probably going to need it. Though the WCWS brackets aren’t set yet, Mississippi State’s potential opponents for the tournament include other dominant teams like No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 Texas Tech.

Sabrina Ionescu's return not enough to lift New York over Dallas as Liberty fall 91-76
NEW YORK (AP) — Sabrina Ionescu got off to a strong start in her season debut, but couldn't keep it going as New York struggled in the second half of a 91-76 loss to Dallas. The Liberty's star guard missed the first five games of the season with a foot injury suffered in a preseason game at Connecticut. She returned Sunday and had 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds while playing 30 minutes. Ionsecu did most of her work in the first half. She hit a deep 3-pointer with 5:11 left in the second quarter that gave the Liberty a 35-27 lead. Ionescu didn't score after that, missing her final seven shot attempts.Ionescu said she felt good after the game, despite the rough second half. She averaged 18.2 points, 5.7 assists and 4.9 rebounds last season and was happy to be back on the court. When she went down against Connecticut on May 3, she knew the injury wasn't major, but that it was going to cost her some time. She received a huge ovation from the crowd when she was introduced in her customary last spot in the lineup. Ionescu helped New York get out to an 11-2 lead, working well with her former Oregon and new Liberty teammate Satou Sabally. It was the first time the pair had played together in a regular-season game this season.Unfortunately, the early run didn't last and New York dropped its second consecutive game.Ionescu doesn't have much recovery time as the Liberty face Portland on Monday night in the second half of a back-to-back.___AP WNBA: https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball

Conor McGregor’s manager promises quick turnaround: ‘We’re not gonna wait a year’
March 8, 2024; Austin TX; Conor McGregor speaks to press on the red carpet before the premiere of Roadhouse at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas on the first day of South by Southwest, Friday, March 8, 2024. McGregor plays the character “Knox” in the movie.. Mandatory Credit: Sara Diggins-USA TODAY NETWORK The Mac is back on July 11th, and he’ll be sticking around for more fights after that, according to his manager.Conor McGregor is set to fight Max Holloway at UFC 329 as the culmination of International Fight Week in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to McGregor’s longtime manager Audie Attar, the timing has finally worked out for “The Notorious” to return to the cage, and that return to the cage will involve more than just one fight and then more years off.In a new interview with MMA Junkie, Attar laid out McGregor’s plan to fight multiple times in quick succession.“I could tell you he’s looking to stay active,” Attar said. “I could tell you that we had planned for a ‘season’ during the COVID period, and that never got going, unfortunately. So this is the new season, and he’s definitely looking to stay active. We’re definitely looking forward to to not only this fight, Max Holloway, July 11, and then that next fight, and we’re not gonna wait a year, that’s for sure.”That’s very interesting news considering McGregor only has two fights left on his UFC contract. Attar refused to speculate on where the Irish sports star might go following that but Conor has said he’d like to bare knuckle box and clean out all the top influencers from the Paul brothers to KSI.“And then we’ll see. We’ll see kinda what happens from there,” Attar said. “I don’t think we’re looking too far ahead of things. We’re just taking it one step at a time, as we should because Max Holloway is a formidable opponent, and we gotta go and handle business come July 11.”Attar revealed that McGregor had wanted to keep Michael Chandler as his opponent, but was willing to fight Holloway instead despite the obvious challenge it presents.“I think it’s a tough match-up,” Attar said. “I think when you’re out as long as Conor’s been out for, you’re taking on a formidable opponent, same age, same experience, but one guy has been very active. But I’m also confident in the preparation Conor’s putting in. I’m confident in where his head and his heart is, and I’m confident that come fight night, the fans are gonna be very happy with that fight.”McGregor still has to make it to UFC 329 healthy, a task he failed to do when he was set to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 back in 2024. A broken pinky toe derailed that one … an unusually mild injury to stop McGregor, who has fought on a blown out knee in the past. We’ll see if “The Notorious” can stay healthy enough to make it to July 11th and then turn around in 2026. That would be impressive to witness — the last time McGregor fought twice in twelve months was 2021 for his two-fight series against Dustin Poirier. Prior to that, it was 2016 for his two fights against Nate Diaz.

Round 3 Game 3 Open Thread: Colorado Avalanche @ Vegas Golden Knights (6:00 P.M.)
May 22, 2026; Denver, Colorado, USA; Colorado Avalanche center Nicolas Roy (10) and Vegas Golden Knights center William Karlsson (71) wait for a face-off from linesman Devin Berg (87) during the first period of game two of the Western Conference Final of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Ball Arena. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images | Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Having lost both games on home ice to start the Western Conference Final against Vegas, the Colorado Avalanche find now face a daunting task as the series shifts to T-Mobile Arena.A lot is riding on tonight’s game. Win, and set yourselves up to even up the series on Tuesday. Lose, and everything is in jeopardy.Colorado Avalanche (8-3)The Opponent: Vegas Golden Knights (10-4)Time: 6:00 P.M. MDT/8:00 P.M. EDTWatch: ESPN (US National Broadcast), CBC, SN, SN+, TVAS, TVAS+ (Canadian National Broadcast)Listen: Altitude Sports Radio KKSE-FM 92.5 FMColorado AvalancheThe dominance of the Avalanche on home ice was well known ahead of this series. They didn’t allow a single victory at Ball Arena to Los Angeles or Minnesota in the first two rounds, but that’s all changed against Vegas. A hot start in Game One quickly cooled off as the Avs failed to generate much offense through most of game, resulting in a 4-2 loss. Game Two saw the Avs score the first goal early and had great success defensively, but they couldn’t build on their lead. That opened the door for Vegas, who scored three times in the third to defeat the Avs 3-1.Having played a defensively committed team in Los Angeles, and having a full week to prepare for Vegas ahead of the Western Conference Final, one would not expect that this series to unfold this way. While the Avs have outshot Vegas through both games in this series, Vegas’ defensive zone play has also led to many broken plays and limited sustained pressure. Far too often, the normally high-powered Avs offense has been distilled to the following outcomes:Puck battles along the boards are lost, leading to the puck going the other wayOffensive zone passes are broken up, leading to the puck going the other wayPucks are shot directly into Carter Hart, or shot wide of the goalNot shooting at all(!)When you have Nathan MacKinnon on your roster (who has ONE assist in this series) and he’s not shooting the puck more than he has (three shots in Game One, and one in Game Two), that is a very big problem. He isn’t the only one that’s struggling to produce: aside from Gabe Landeskog’s power play goal (the only power play goal in five attempts for the Avs, but that’s a whole other issue), not one of the top-six forwards has produced any offense.Brock Nelson and Martin Nečas have no points in the series. Both have had their opportunities to create, and neither have finished on their chances. Meanwhile, both Pavel Dorofeyev and Jack Eichel have a goal and two assists for Vegas. Brett Howden scored the game-wining goal in Game One. Ivan Barbashev has two goals, including the game-winning goal in Game Two, and an assist on Eichel’s goal. While getting goals from Valeri Nichushkin and Ross Colton has been nice, it simply isn’t enough: top-end talent cannot be held off the scoresheet.Defenseman Cale Makar missed the first two games due to injury, and the Avs certainly miss him on both ends of the ice. When addressing the media on Saturday regarding Makar’s availability for Game Three, head coach Jared Bednar said that it would be Makar’s decision on when he’s ready to play. “No one can go into Cale’s body and feel what he’s feeling, so when he feels like he can do all the things he needs to be able to do out on the ice to play, then he’s going to make the decision to play.”Having Makar miss Game Three isn’t ideal, especially with Vegas now having the home ice ability to control on-ice match-ups. The Avs need every advantage they can get, with word that Vegas captain Mark Stone is returning to the lineup, getting Makar back in any capacity would go a long way.Bednar did make a defensive adjustment in Game Two, reinserting Nick Blankenburg in place of Jack Achan. Blankenburg fared well in his limited time on ice, and if Makar is unavailable tonight, expect Blankenburg to get the call.Bednar didn’t (and won’t) tip his hand regarding his goaltending, but Wedgewood is likely to start between the pipes for Game Three. Wedgewood played well through most of Game Two, providing his teammates with a chance to win early. While some criticism of his play on the Eichel goal might be warranted, that criticism can also be levied at the rest of the lineup for failing to give him more offensive support in return. The Avs will have to be better throughout their entire lineup, and for the entirety of Game Three, in order to get back into this series.Projected LineupForwards:Artturi Lehkonen – Nathan MacKinnon – Martin NečasGabe Landeskog – Brock Nelson – Valeri NichushkinRoss Colton – Nazem Kadri – Nicolas RoyParker Kelly – Jack Drury – Logan O’ConnorDefense:Devon Toews – Sam MalinskiJosh Manson – Brent BurnsBrett Kulak – Nick BlankenburgBetween the Pipes:Scott WedgewoodMackenzie BlackwoodVegas Golden KnightsVegas is heating up at the right time. With two wins on the road, they’re in the best position they’ve had throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. A win today puts them in position to push the League’s best regular season team closer to elimination, and get one step closer to their third Stanley Cup Final. Despite falling behind early in Game Two, Vegas was able to overcome Colorado’s tight play in the second period in addition to losing the services of defenseman Brayden McNabb for a large stretch of the game. Head Coach John Tortorella highlighted McNabb’s importance in media yesterday, “I thought our team played better, you know? It was a different team. As I said after the game [Friday] night, the second period, it was tilted, and we got out of there unscathed, very fortunately, and I thought that was the most important part of the game, was just being down by a goal after two periods. ‘Nabber’ comes back in, and I think it settled us down.”Much has been made of Colorado’s ability to apply pressure late in games, but Vegas has proven that they are no slouch in third period play. In both games of this series, Vegas has bested Colorado in third period offense, outscoring Colorado 5-2 in the final frame, with two of those goals coming with an empty net late in regulation. Tortorella also highlighted his roster’s ability to remain patient despite trailing in Game Two. “Team’s down one-nothing going into the third period, you don’t want to open yourself up and start doing crazy stuff and opening yourself up, because that team will make you pay, the team we’re playing right now,” He said.“Just take each shift at a time, see if we can get a big play,” Tortorella continued, “We end up getting a big play. […] It’s a big play by a big player, and that’s what you hope for.Given the production from his lineup, Tortorella doesn’t have to look far for more big plays from his big players coming into Game Three.Projected LineupForwards:Ivan Barbashev – Jack Eichel – Pavel DorofeyevMark Stone – William Karlsson – Mitch MarnerBrandon Saad – Tomáš Hertl – Brett HowdenColton Sissons – Nic Dowd – Keegan KolesarDefense:Brayden McNabb – Shea TheodoreNoah Hanafin – Rasmus AnderssonKaedan Korczak – Dylan CoghlanBetween the Pipes:Carter HartAdin Hill

Analyst offers intriguing reason for Bills hope in 2026
Analyst offers intriguing reason for Bills hope in 2026 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Buffalo Bills are in an unenviable position entering the 2026 season -- no one cares what they do in the regular season. We know the Bills will win 10+ games and make the playoffs, but it is what they do once in the postseason that everyone will be watching intently.Yes, Josh Allen let Buffalo down last year in Denver, but the defense in previous seasons has been the reason the Bills' season ends. So, what is the main reason for hope in 2026 as Joe Brady takes the reins?Sports Illustrated's Eva Geitheim thinks it's all to do with the defense."The Bills should have better corners come postseason," Geitheim wrote. "After watching Dane Jackson and a 31-year-old Tre’Davious White get beaten in coverage during the divisional round, the Bills drafted corners Davison Igbinosun and Toriano Pride Jr. Will the additions pay off? Stay tuned, but the Bills needed to do something to prevent the defense from letting Josh Allen down in the postseason again (assuming he doesn’t have another turnover-riddled performance)."MORE:Ravens reason for 2026 optimism not centered on Lamar JacksonJim Leonhard under pressureWhen you have a quarterback like Allen, it can be a blessing and a curse for a defense. The blessing is that he can push the offense to put up 30+ points every week, but the downside is that the defense might relax knowing that whatever happens, they have a quarterback who can pick up the slack. That's gotten Buffalo into trouble lately, so Leonhard is tasked with making this defense stout, particularly in the postseason in his first year in the job.Sean McDermott was fired for the defensive failings in the playoffs during his tenure, and now Leonhard is the next man up.He's got the quarterback to get his defense out of a bind, but in an ideal world, there'd be no bind to get out of.More NFL news:Buccaneers coach makes incredibly bold Rueben Bain Jr. predictionChargers fans will love GM's quote on Derwin James' futureJets' OC hints at offensive style for Geno SmithPatriots' Hunter Henry reveals underrated aspect of Drake Maye's second yearBrowns QB Deshaun Watson facing career-saving season in 2026

Ralf Schumacher claims Kimi Antonelli could become F1’s next Max Verstappen
Motorsport photoFormer Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes that Kimi Antonelli could become the "successor to Max Verstappen one day".The Italian driver claimed his fourth consecutive grand prix win at the Canadian Grand Prix and extended his lead in the drivers' championship to 43 points over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell. The early stages of the grand prix featured a tense intra-team battle between the pair. The pair repeatedly traded the lead, pushing each other to the absolute limit until Russell was forced to retire on lap 30 with a power unit failure. "Yes, it was an epic duel," Schumacher explained on the Sky Sports Germany broadcast. "And you also have to say, Kimi handles it incredibly calmly and maturely. And George really kept making mistakes there. He himself made one too, of course, but he was clearly the faster man."And you first have to manage that at such a young age, to have the situation so under control and to learn from the mistakes he also made. So top job. If this continues, we may really have a successor to Max Verstappen one day."Andrea Kimi Antonelli, MercedesAndrea Kimi Antonelli, MercedesDiscussing the 19-year-old driver's development, Schumacher added: "Well, let’s put it this way: he came into Formula 1 with a lot of advance praise. But he was also someone who needed a bit of time."Then Mercedes also had a wrong development direction, which made things harder for him. Especially at the rear axle last year, if we remember correctly. But then things got going. He picked up momentum, on new tracks, he was immediately on the pace and implemented exactly what was needed."And now he’s taking the next step. Now he wants to move forward, now he wants to lead the team. And you can feel that. He’s no longer giving George any room to breathe, let’s say. He’s constantly putting him under pressure. And George is also someone who, I believe, is super fast but perhaps doesn’t deal with pressure quite as well. We saw that again today."To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.

Bangoura scores 1st MLS goal, Crew beats Atlanta 2-0 to end 4-game winless streak
COLUMBUS (AP) — Sekou Bangoura scored his first goal in MLS, Diego Rossi added a goal, and the Columbus Crew beat Atlanta United 2-0 on Sunday to snap a four-game winless streak. Columbus fired first-year head coach Henrik Rydstrom on Sunday. Laurent Courtois, who had been a Crew assistant coach and the former CF Montreal manager, got a win in his first game since being named interim coach. Patrick Schulte finished with two saves and had his third shutout this season for the Crew (4-7-4). Mohamed Farsi had two assists. Atlanta (3-9-2) has scored 14 goals this season, tied with Philadelphia and Kansas City for the fewest in MLS. Bangoura opened the scoring in the 24th minute. On the counter-attack, Diego Rossi tapped a pass to Farsi, who played a first-touch pass around charging goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos to Bangoura for the point-blank finish into a wide-open net. Rossi — whose chip-shot over Hoyos harmlessly ricocheted off the back post — put away a first-touch shot, off a cross by Farsi on the counter-attack, from just inside the penalty box that made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time. Hoyos had two saves. The Crew beat Atlanta 3-1 on the road April 4 behind two goals from Wessam Abou Ali — who suffered a season-ending knee injury in a 1-1 tie with Orlando City on April 12. Columbus played Philadelphia to a 1-1 tie last Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak. ___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

'We've got to be aggressive': Rajasthan Royals send big message before SRH Eliminator
NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara said his side will look to stay aggressive with both line and length when they face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator in Mullanpur on May 27.Rajasthan Royals secured the fourth and final playoff berth after defeating Mumbai Indians by 30 runs on Sunday."Of course we would love to have the bulk of the runs done (by the top four) and not have to go through the nerves of it, but I thought that was an exceptional scrappy match," Sangakkara said after the victory.Speaking about the upcoming Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sangakkara acknowledged the challenge posed by SRH’s batting line-up."They're a good side, aren't they? They bat well. They trust themselves to go hard and they've done it the whole tournament," he said."We know what we're going to face. We have got to hold the line, really. Be disciplined and understand that they're not a side that you're going to limit to 120, 130. But we've got to be aggressive (with our) lines and lengths.""Even if you're trying to bowl a good length ball, or a slower ball, it has to be bowled with intent. With the Sunrisers, yeah, it's going to be a tough clash for us. Let's see in two days' time what we come up with," he added.Sangakkara also revealed that India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is currently managing an injury and requires a couple of days of rest before returning to full fitness."He has been nursing an injury and we've had to manage him quite sensitively. For him to go out and bat for long periods of time, it puts a lot of pressure on him, a lot of stress on him," Sangakkara said."So until he gets maybe another two days of rest, then we can use him even better (but) because he batted today, he was exceptional again."The Royals head coach strongly backed skipper Riyan Parag and praised the youngster’s leadership qualities despite criticism on social media over the years."I think I've seen very few players who have been criticised, like Riyan has been criticised for about seven years now. Ever since I came to the franchise, there's always people who like Riyan, but there are a lot of people who didn't really like him, especially on social media," Sangakkara said."Having watched him, yes, he will grow. He will mature. He will understand himself a lot more. He will learn to understand his players a lot more. But even today, if you look at the calls he makes as captain, the confidence with which he does, he drags himself almost on one foot sometimes to come and play. There's a huge amount of positives.""He has captained exceptionally well. He has led his team exceptionally well and when he's in that dressing room, he's got the respect of all the players and the staff. That's all you can ask for."Sangakkara said Rajasthan Royals remain committed to helping Riyan grow as both a player and a captain."What happens in the next few years, it's a really interesting relationship we have to build with the franchise and Riyan and really help him develop as a captain, as a batter, as a person, and keep supporting him.""He's a very, very good young man. Sometimes what you see on the outside is not Riyan Parag. Riyan Parag is a lovely, soft, gentle, really determined, smart young man."Sangakkara also explained that Jofra Archer’s decision to remain in the IPL and miss England’s first Test against New Zealand was taken collectively with the ECB."I think it was a collaborative decision between the ECB, Jofra and then talking about his bowling loads, especially the Test match," he said."It's very difficult to get your bowling loads up very soon when you're only bowling four overs a game. So he needs time to get that done and that was why the ECB was gracious enough to let him stay and understand that he'll be fine once he gets his bowling loads up, once he leaves the IPL," he added.

3 Vikings Rookies with Surprise Potential in 2026
Dale Zanine-Imagn ImagesThe Minnesota Vikings have added many rookies to their roster, including not only the nine draft picks but also a host of undrafted players. I want to look at which of these Vikings rookies have surprise potential in 2026 and could achieve more than is suggested.Unsung Newcomers Could Crash the ConversationFor this exercise, I’m not looking at any of the draftees selected on the first two days of the draft. The likes of Caleb Banks and Jake Golday should be expected to have some impact in their rookie seasons. I’m looking for a Day 3 pick who can step up early in his career, something the Vikings have had very little success with in recent years. Or — an undrafted rookie that comes from nowhere like Ivan Pace did a couple of years back. The chances of an undrafted rookie breaking onto the scene are slim; some have already been released, but Pace proved it’s not impossible.1. Demond Claiborne (RB)The Vikings selected Demond Claiborne with the 198th overall pick, and he can add some juice to a solid, if unspectacular, Vikings rushing attack. Aaron Jones is in the twilight of his career, and Jordan Mason is a good downhill runner, but Claiborne doesn’t see his path to playing time in Minnesota blocked by a Christian McCaffrey or Kenneth Walker.Nov 16, 2024; Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA; Wake Forest Demon Deacons running back Demond Claiborne (1) with the ball as North Carolina Tar Heels linebacker Power Echols (23) defends in the first quarter at Kenan Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Bob Donnan-Imagn ImagesClaiborne gives the Vikings a twitched-up runner with quick feet who can find gaps and generate big chunk plays. The Vikings’ rushing attack lacks that, and while I wouldn’t expect him to start the season ahead of either Mason or Jones. He can create opportunities for himself, and when they arise, he needs to seize them. There is a place for his style of runner in the Vikings offense if he can take it.2. Charles Demmings (CB)Minnesota landed a potential secondary steal in Charles Demmings with the 163rd overall pick. Demmings posted 99th-percentile vertical jump numbers at the combine and earned a 79.6 PFF grade with four interceptions in 2025. Coming from a small school and playing against lesser opponents, there is the doubt that comes with that, but the physical traits and athletic profile are there – 6’1 and 193 lbs with 32-inch arms and 10 1/8-inch hands. Feb 27, 2026; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Stephen F Austin defensive back Chuck Demmings (DB07) during the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesHe ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash with a 1.55-second 10-yard split, while also posting a 42-inch vertical jump and an 11-foot broad jump. Minnesota’s defensive coordinator Brian Flores has shown a strong eye for defensive prospects, and this selection fits that approach. In a draft that felt like it was all about Flores, Demmings could prove to be the jewel in the crown if he can translate his skill set, which includes great ball-tracking ability in the air, to the NFL level. 3. Dillon Bell (WR)My pick for the undrafted rookie that could become a surprise package is wide receiver Dillon Bell. There’s not a huge amount of room in the Vikings’ WR room, but Bell has a decent chunk of guaranteed money in his contract, which shows some belief from the Vikings. Bell is a big-bodied offensive weapon at 6-foot and 210 lbs.Nov 22, 2025; Athens, Georgia, USA; Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Dillon Bell (86) shown on the field prior to the game against the Charlotte 49ers at Sanford Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-Imagn ImagesHis route running isn’t great, but Bell averaged 7.3 yards per carry as a runner at Georgia and can be an intriguing option in the Vikings offense if used correctly – get the ball in his hands early and let him make things happen.

Djokovic shakes off rust to sidestep Mpetshi Perricard
Novak Djokovic has won three French Open titles, most recently in 2023 [Getty Images]Novak Djokovic danced on the baseline after booking his place in the French Open second round, but his jovial celebration was in stark contrast to the frustrated figure who had to fight from a set down to beat world number 83 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The third seed, who turned 39 on Friday, has been selective with his schedule in recent seasons as he attempts to protect his fitness while pursuing a record 25th Grand Slam single title - but arrived in Paris having played just 11 singles matches in 2026.His only outing on clay was a three-set defeat by Dino Prizmic at the Rome Masters and his lack of match sharpness was noticeable throughout his first-round tie as he struggled to read the 6ft 7in Frenchman's serve and ferocious forehand, and lacked his usual clinical edge in the key moments. However, after converting his fourth set point to level the match in the second momentum swung in his favour, with Djokovic rattling through the third set in just 22 minutes before closing out the win 5-7 7-5 6-1 6-4 to extend his unbeaten record in the first round at Roland Garros to 22 matches. He will face Valentin Royer in round two on Wednesday.'A big ask' in Paris - will a stronger Raducanu emerge at Wimbledon?Jones breaks through after 'hardest moment of career'Emotional Kostyuk dedicates win to Ukraine"Congratulations to Giovanni," Djokovic said in French in his on-court interview. "I played him for the first time and it's practically impossible to see where he will serve. It's like something I've seen maybe one or two times in my career, with Reilly Opelka or Ivo Karlovic."In a match like that, you have to stay focussed and wait for an opportunity. It was a bit difficult, but in the end, I found my best tennis and best return game at the right moment."Facing the three-time champion on his Philippe-Chatrier debut and having just one main-draw win at the tournament to his name, Mpetshi Perricard could have been forgiven for being overawed by the occasion but it was Djokovic who looked the more uncomfortable of the two throughout the opening two sets.Mpetshi Perricard, who appeared to be hampered by an injury to his right wrist late on, won 82% of points behind his booming first serve, his well-publicised weapon after breaking the tournament speed record at last year's Wimbledon. But he proved equally threatening with his forehand, both from the baseline and at the net, and outstruck Djokovic with 38 winners to 26 in the first half of the match. The Serbian was visibly frustrated after being broken in the 11th game of the opening set, remonstrating with himself and the crowd, and was demonstrative in his reactions to the nine wasted break points in the second.Ever the pantomime villain, upon levelling the match, he cupped his hand behind his ear to amp up the crowd and duly rose to the lively atmosphere, breaking serve twice and giving up just one point on his own serve as he took control in the third. He was not without lapses in concentration in the fourth set, most notably in the second game when he conceded a lazy break after taking a 1-0 lead, but he rediscovered his composure with a trio of holds to love and a fifth break to avoid a decider and a possible post-midnight finish. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, Annabel Croft said: "That was a really tough opening match for him. The last thing he wanted was to play against such a massive server with such a big weapon in that huge forehand that Mpetshi Perricard possesses."I though he played extremely well to get through this match and I kind of enjoyed his attitude - I enjoyed him embracing the challenge, he had to face a home crowd."He was smiling a lot, engaged in the battle and having fun with the challenge."Elsewhere, American Taylor Fritz became the first top-10 seed to exit the men's draw, losing to compatriot Nishesh Basavareddy 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (9-11) 6-1.The seventh seed has struggled with lingering knee tendinitis throughout the season, with a defeat by Alexei Popyrin at last week's Geneva Open his first match since March.German second seed and 2024 finalist Alexander Zverev opened his campaign with a straight-set win over France's Benjamin Bonzi. Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren make Pistons history on All-NBA teams
The Detroit Pistons' two brightest stars have officially been crowned as such. Cade Cunningham was named first-team All-NBA on Sunday, May 24 – becoming the first Pistons player to earn the honor since Grant Hill in 1996-97. He is only the seventh player in franchise history – a list that includes Isiah Thomas, Dave Bing, Gene Shue, George Yardley and Larry Foust – to do so and just the sixth since the team moved to Detroit in 1957.Jalen Duren was named third-team All-NBA, joining Cunningham to form the first Pistons duo to make an All-NBA team since Ben Wallace and Chauncey Billups both made the second team in 2005-06. It's Duren's first time earning the award.REPORT CARD: Pistons grades full of A's as warp-speed ascension continuesCunningham, who was a third-teamer last season, is the first Piston to earn an All-NBA nod in back-to-back seasons since Billups in 2005-06 and 2006-07.Cunningham, 24, and Duren, 22, were both All Stars in February en route to leading the Pistons to an Eastern Conference-best 60-22 record, third-best in franchise history. Cunningham averaged 23.9 points, 9.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game in 64 regular season games in Year 1 of his five-year, $269 million rookie max extension; Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in 70 games.Cunningham won an appeal in April to be eligible for end-of-season awards, despite falling short of the NBA's rule requiring 65 games played to qualify due to a lung injury in mid-March.Jalen Duren contract in free agencyDuren is set to enter restricted free agency this summer.By making All-NBA, Duren is now eligible for a five-year rookie max extension worth up to roughly $287 million – a $49.5 million bump from his contract value without an All-NBA selection. Only the Pistons have the right to offer the 30% max; the other 29 teams are limited to up to four years and $177.4 million at the 25% max. The Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets are the three teams projected to have cap space."We look forward to coming together with his representative and getting a deal done, and for him to continue to be a Piston," Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said Tuesday, two days after the season ended with a Game 7 blowout loss at home in the Eastern Conference semifinals.Duren's market is projected to be well under his max. His play dropped off significantly in the playoffs, as he averaged 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds and awas often outplayed by third-string center Paul Reed.ESPN cap expert Bobby Marks, a former Nets exec, wrote Friday he'd offer Duren a $180 million deal over five years – $36 million annually. "The first-year salary ($31 million) is 21% of the cap and slightly less than the starting number of Rockets center Alperen Sengun," Marks wrote. Sengun signed a five-year, $185 million rookie extension just before the 2024-25 season, keeping him from restricted free agency. It has been a fruitful awards season for the Pistons – Ausar Thompson recently was named first-team All-Defense after finishing third in the Defensive Player of the Year race, and Duren finished second in Most Improved Player voting.J.B. Bickerstaff is a finalist for Coach of the Year, which will be announced Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.[ MUST WATCH: Make "The Pistons Pulse" your go-to Pistons podcast, listen available anywhere you listen to podcasts (Apple, Spotify) or watch live on YouTube. ] Contact Omari Sankofa II at osankofa@freepress.com. Nuggets named landing spot for $101 million Lakers four-time NBA champion star
Nuggets named landing spot for $101 million Lakers four-time NBA champion star originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Denver Nuggets, like the Boston Celtics, could have avoided a complex, drama-filled offseason by avoiding a premature playoff exit. While Denver never had a 3-1 first-round postseason lead like the Celtics, they had the luxury of competing against an injury-riddled Minnesota Timberwolves for 2.5 games (Ayo Dosunmu, Anthony Edwards, and Donte DiVincenzo all missed time with various ailments). The Nikola Jokic-led Nuggets couldn’t get the job done, though, as Minnesota defeated Denver in six games. Who will the 2023 NBA champions look to add to their roster in the summer to get back on track in 2026-27? ESPN’s Bobby Marks listed the Los Angeles Lakers' four-time NBA champion star as a potential option.“The deal I'd offer (LeBron James): One year, $30 million,” Marks wrote Friday. “The contract includes a full no-trade clause. Best fits: Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, and Golden State Warriors.”“James' impact during the regular season and playoffs still reflects a max player. He was named an All-Star for a record-setting 23rd season and averaged at least 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists per game for a third straight year. And only Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey scored more fast-break points this season than 41-year-old James.”James, a looming free agent, hasn’t been linked to the Nuggets much since the end of the Lakers’ 2025-26 season. A return to the Lakers, a reunion with the Cavaliers, a blockbuster signing with the Warriors, or a massive deal with the New York Knicks are far more likely offseason scenarios for the 22-time All-Star.However, the Nuggets will have an opportunity to extend an offer to James that they deem acceptable and hope for the best possible result. Pairing Nikola Jokic with James would give Denver arguably the most intelligent and meticulous tandem in the league, as both contributors are known for their high basketball IQs and patient offensive approaches.Time will tell if the Nuggets will work their magic to land James this offseason.More NBA news:Lakers named best fit for record-setting $53.8 million starJazz, Hawks, Bulls, Nets named top landing spots for $53 million Lakers superstarLakers predicted to cut ties with Dalton Knecht, acquire $175 million two-time MVP

Sixers' Tyrese Maxey named to All-NBA third team
Sixers' Tyrese Maxey named to All-NBA third team originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. This season saw the Philadelphia 76ers get back to their old ways, making their way all the way to the Eastern Conference semifinals, which came a year after the team failed to make the playoffs outright. While a large part of that could be placed on the increased role that former MVP Joel Embiid had during the season, appearing in more games than he did during the 2024/25 campaign, or Paul George’s consistent outings, Tyrese Maxey’s skills may be the biggest reason. The 2025-26 campaign proved to be yet another year of Maxey improving on his scoring ability, as he averaged a career-high 28.3 points per game, two marks above where he was in the previous campaign. His assist numbers would rise, as well as his field goal percentage and his three-point shooting numbers, all of which would help the former Most Improved Player be named to his second All-Star game.Maxey highlighted as part of an All-NBA team2025-26 All-NBA teams:First: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, Cade CunninghamSecond: Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jalen Brunson, Donovan MitchellThird: Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, Chet Holmgren— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 24, 2026But Maxey’s accolades for his efforts wouldn’t stop at his inclusion in All-Star weekend’s festivities, as he was named to the All-NBA Third Team, the first time in his career to have been named to an All-NBA team. The Sixers’ star will join the likes of Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, and Chet Holmgren on the third team.Maxey joins his backcourt partner, VJ Edgecombe, in being named on the All-NBA format, as the Bahamian was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team earlier in the month.More NBA news: Warriors' Steph Curry details difficult return from nagging knee injuryKristaps Porzingis gets brutally honest regarding his future with WarriorsHow Luka Doncic could still win NBA MVP award despite season-ending injuryCollin Gillespie breaks Phoenix Suns' 3-point record for a single seasonZion Williamson gets brutally honest regarding his future with New Orleans Pelicans

1 Chiefs player key to 2026 hope
1 Chiefs player key to 2026 hope originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Kansas City Chiefs had a surprising down season in 2025, but not many are expecting that to happen again in 2026.Andy Reid and Brett Veach have helped retool the defense, while the offense remains largely intact for yet another season. But let's face it, the be-all and end-all is centered around Patrick Mahomes and how he recovers from his ACL injury. If he recovers well and plays to the level we know he can, Kansas City is in business this season. And for Sports Illustrated's Eva Geitheim, the Chiefs' reason for hope in 2026 is down solely to No. 15."Patrick Mahomes will be back," Geitheim wrote. "It remains unclear whether Mahomes will be ready for Week 1, but the superstar quarterback is certainly motivated to return after the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time in his nine years and after he missed the end of the season due to a torn ACL."The Chiefs have retooled their defense this offseason, but having one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time back gives them a chance in any game."MORE: Analyst offers intriguing reason for Bills hope in 2026Mahomes on track for Week 1?Everything we have heard points to Patrick starting against the Denver Broncos. Plus, there have even been reports that he is ahead of schedule in his recovery. Now, all of that is great, but the Chiefs will be cautious with Patrick. With Week 1 the goal, I'd imagine he'll need at least a good month or so of practices at training camp to be in good enough shape to take on that Broncos defense, because if you are anything less than 100 percent, it's a nightmare to play against.Mahomes has made good progress, and if he is healthy, like every season he's played, he'll be key to Kansas City's Super Bowl hopes.More NFL news:Buccaneers coach makes incredibly bold Rueben Bain Jr. predictionChargers fans will love GM's quote on Derwin James' futureJets' OC hints at offensive style for Geno SmithPatriots' Hunter Henry reveals underrated aspect of Drake Maye's second yearRavens reason for 2026 optimism not centered on Lamar Jackson

Enhanced Games results: Did anyone set a world record?
The Enhanced Games were held on Sunday, May 24. The notorious event in Las Vegas, Nevada, featured competitors vying for a new world record. While normal competition in weightlifting, swimming and track have intense anti-doping policies, Enhanced aimed to see what the athletes could do with the use of PEDs if the athletes wanted to partake. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentThe event has been colloquially known as “the Olympics with steroids,” but not every athlete chose to use PEDs. Those who did were under strict medical supervision to ensure that they were using the drugs safely. With the event aimed at seeing whether science could help athletes reach another level, all eyes were on whether competitors would be able to make history. There was even a hefty payday on the table for them, as Enhanced said that any world records set would award the athlete $250,000. Thunder vs Spurs Game 4: live score updates, highlights, 2026 NBA Western Conference Finals matchup
Thunder vs Spurs Game 4: live score updates, highlights, 2026 NBA Western Conference Finals matchup originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The San Antonio Spurs welcome the Thunder to the Frost Bank Center for the second of two home games for the Spurs. The Thunder won the first of two games in convincing fashion. Thunder did not relinquish their lead in the entire second half. The Thunder not only coasted to victory in the 4th quarter, the Spurs struggled to make the game competitive. The Thunder won every shooting metric, percentages and totals. The smaller Thunder team also outrebounded the Spurs. The only aspects of the game San Antonio won was steals, blocks, points off turnovers and fouls committed. The biggest issue facing the Spurs in Game 4 were Victor Wembanyama's non-scoring numbers. In addition to scoring 26 points, Wemby totaled only four rebounds and was outrebounded by every other starter the Spurs had. When PG De'Aaron Fox almost doubles Wemby in rebounding there is an issue.Wemby will need to give the Spurs 25+ points, but he needs to be a presence in the paint. Especially defensively. The only game San Antonio has won in this series, Wemby finished with 41 points, 24 rebounds, three blocks, 50% from three and a +16 plus/minus. Oklahoma City is playing the way a team plays when they are built like OKC. Without Jalen Williams in the lineup, the Thunder didn't need SGA to give a 50 point triple-double. SGA had his 26 points and 12 assists, however, the Spurs did not account for well, the prodution of Jaylin (spelled different) Williams, Alex Caruso and Jared McCain off the bench. All three of whom scored between 15-24 points in that game. The Spurs must find a way to win Game 4. They cannot afford to go down 3-1 with how Oklahoma City is playing. Teams that go down 3-1 in the conference finals have only a 7% probability to win the series. That number becomes 82% when the winner of Game 4 evens the series at 2-2. IPL 2026: KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav power Delhi Capitals to dominant win over KKR
Delhi Capitals signed off their IPL 2026 campaign with a commanding 40-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in a dead-rubber clash, as KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav starred on Sunday. With Rajasthan Royals defeating Mumbai Indians earlier in the day to seal the final playoff berth, both KKR and Punjab Kings were officially eliminated before the match began. Delhi Capitals had already been knocked out after PBKS’ win over Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, leaving only pride and final standings to play for at Eden Gardens. Batting first after KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane opted to bowl, Delhi Capitals piled up an imposing 203 for 5, thanks largely to Rahul’s explosive half-century at the top. The DC opener looked in complete control from the beginning, attacking both pace and spin with ease. Rahul hammered five fours and four sixes during his 30-ball 60, registering his sixth fifty of the season. He particularly targeted Sunil Narine, dancing down the track repeatedly to clear the ropes. In one over, Rahul launched Narine for a towering six over long-on before following it up with another boundary over the spinner’s head. Rahul then shifted gears further against Kartik Tyagi, smashing a boundary and a straight six in an over worth 20 runs to race to a 25-ball half-century. At that stage, Delhi looked set for a total well beyond 220. However, KKR managed to regain some control through Anukul Roy, who dismissed Rahul against the run of play. Sahil Parakh also chipped in with 24 before Axar Patel added 39, while Varun Chakravarthy returned with 1 for 35 despite continuing to play with a hairline fracture in his left toe. KKR’s chase began positively, with Rahane leading the charge in what could possibly have been his final appearance for the franchise. The veteran batter produced one of his best innings of the season, smashing 63 off just 39 balls with four fours and four sixes. Rahane attacked aggressively, taking on Auqib Nabi with back-to-back sixes before repeating the same against Axar Patel to bring up a rapid 31-ball fifty. But just when KKR appeared to be building momentum, Kuldeep Yadav completely turned the game. Returning to the playing XI after being left out and after going wicketless in his previous three matches, the left-arm wrist-spinner tormented his former side with a brilliant spell of 3 for 29. Kuldeep first removed Cameron Green cheaply before producing the decisive moment of the match. Sensing Rahane moving across, he bowled a tossed-up delivery outside leg stump that dipped sharply. Rahane attempted to loft it straight but only managed to slice it to David Miller. On the very next ball, Kuldeep dismissed Rinku Singh for a duck, putting KKR in complete trouble. He nearly completed a hat-trick as well after Tejasvi Dahiya edged the following delivery, but Abhishek Porel dropped the chance behind the stumps. From there, KKR collapsed rapidly and were bowled out for 163 in 18.4 overs, slumping to their seventh defeat of the season. Mitchell Starc also impressed against his former franchise with figures of 2 for 26, while Lungi Ngidi cleaned up the tail with 3 for 27. The result helped Delhi Capitals finish sixth on the points table with seven wins and seven losses, moving above KKR, who ended seventh after another disappointing campaign under Rahane’s leadership.

Nixon Lauritzen earns PGA Tour exemption after NGI playoff win; Grand Canyon wins team title
MARICOPA, Ariz. — The wind was blowing at Nixon Lauritzen's back seemingly for the first time all week. He pulled a 50-degree wedge from his bag and just knew it had to reach the green. There was no chance it would come up short. The sophomore at Grand Canyon pushed his tee shot right into a sand dune. He had 154 yards into the 18th green. The pin was tucked, only three paces from the right edge of the green, with the grass cascading down into a pond that enveloped the right side of the closing hole at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes. Lauritzen, in a playoff and hitting first, knew he had to hit a good shot to put pressure on his opponent. And hit a good shot he did.His wedge landed 20 feet from the flag, and his opponent, Brody Leid from Wyoming, ended up almost double that distance from the pin. Leid's first putt came up 6 feet short. Then Lauritzen's attempt came up a couple feet short. When Leid missed the par attempt, the result was all but wrapped up.Lauritzen won the individual title at the 2026 National Golf Invitational in a playoff Sunday, topping Leid on the first playoff hole. The duo finished at 18-under 198, a scoring record at the NGI. Leid also three-putted the 18th hole in regulation from a similar spot, making bogey. Lauritzen capitalized, making eight birdies en route to a second straight 7-under 65 for his first collegiate win.More: NGI SCORESMore importantly, Lauritzen's victory earned him an exemption into the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship this October. "I'm speechless," Lauritzen said. "Ever since I was little, I was one of those kids that was like, 'Yeah, I want to play on the PGA Tour.' This was a great opportunity to get that one done. Luckily I pulled it off in a playoff, so I am pretty grateful for that."Lauritzen blitzed Ak-Chin Southern Dunes this week, which was vulnerable to to light winds and a bit softer greens throughout the NIT of college golf. He had 22 birdies and one eagle on the week. He and Leid, however, shined, beating the next closest golfer, Nevada's Monte Chumchiavate, by six shots. With six holes to play, Lauritzen trailed by three shots, but consecutive birdies on Nos. 13-14 moved him within one after Leid, playing in an earlier group, bogeyed the 18th. Leid went on a back-nine blitzkreig, playing the 12th thru 17th holes in 6 under with three bogeys on Nos. 10, 11 and 18 surrounding the four birdies and an eagle. But with a clubhouse score of 18 under posted, Lauritzen knew what he had to do."I do check here and there," Lauritzen said of knowing his position. Maybe that's a good thing or maybe it's bad. I knew I was back and I had to get a few coming in."Lauritzen said assistant coach Mike Schaloum assisted him with an up-and-down for birdie on a par 5, spurning his sprint to the clubhouse. In regulation, Lauritzen bombed a drive and had about 100 yards in, but his approach rolled back off the front of the green. He chipped his shot to a couple feet and made par, forcing the playoff.Neither player hit the fairway in the playoff, with Lauritzen's ball coming to rest on the side of a sand dune while Leid was in the left rough. Lauritzen hit first, and the rest is history."I'm looking back at (that shot), and I really don't know how it was a comfortable 50 (degree),' Lauritzen said.In addition to setting an individual tournament scoring record, Grand Canyon blew the team record out of the water, finishing at 52 under and topping Missouri by 14 shots in the team race. That bests the previous mark of 42 under, which Washington State shot in 2024.Gavin O'Neill placed fourth at 11 under, Matt Diehl tied for sixth at 9 under while Mans Boje and Erik Rengardt tied for ninth at 8 under. The only person who wasn't there Sunday was head coach Mark Mueller, who had to leave Saturday night to attend his best friend's wedding. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Nixon Lauritzen sets scoring record, wins NGI playoff at 18-under 198

On Friday, the Thunder dominated the Spurs. Oklahoma City won almost every single statistical category. If the Thunder win tonight, they will face an elimination game at home for Game 5. The Spurs are facing a must win scenario. Teams in the conference finals who go down 3-1 in the series have gone on to win that series only 7% of the time. There has only been one team to come back from 3-1 in the conference finals. It was the 1968-69 Boston Celtics. Individually, the Spurs must get more out of Victor Wembanyama. His 26 points and four rebounds in Game 3 is simply not good enough. The Thunder are getting almost whatever they want inside 15 feet. Wemby doesn't need to be the leading scorer, but he does need to be a presence defensively. The Spurs must find a way to limit the Thunder's extra possessions.
