Trump Decries Lack Of Space To Host Parties Inside MRI Machine
BETHESDA, MD—Complaining during his annual physical Tuesday that the narrow tubelike structure offered next to no room for socializing, President Donald Trump decried the lack of space to host parties inside an MRI machine. “It’s so cramped that maybe you can fit one or two foreign dignitaries or CEOs in there at most,” said the president, who upon receiving an MRI scan at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center lamented that the restrictive opening made dancing completely impossible and that a simple conversation was out of the question thanks to the the high-decibel clanging and beeping. “What would the Saudi crown prince or Putin think if I made them squeeze in there and had to explain that I’m not allowed to hang beautiful gold fixtures because metal’s not allowed? Such a disgrace. Seriously, how do you build an MRI without room for a single chandelier?” At press time, Trump had reportedly ordered the MRI machine widened to accommodate 500 guests and had all the annoying magnets removed. USMNT snubs? Tanner Tessmann, Diego Luna among notable names left off official U.S. 2026 World Cup roster
The United States men’s World Cup roster was officially announced on Tuesday during an event in New York City. Days after the 26-man list was leaked to several media outlets, manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the group that will be taking part in this summer’s tournament, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. There were several surprise absences in Pochettino’s final list, including midfielders Tanner Tessmann and Diego Luna.Tessmann, who plays for Lyon in France, suffered a muscle strain earlier this month, but the injury was not expected to affect his status for the World Cup. His stock seemed to rise after the news that Johnny Cardoso would miss the tournament after suffering an ankle injury. The absence of the 24-year-old Tessmann, who played in each of the USA’s last six matches, leaves Pochettino’s squad down to Tyler Adams as its only defensive midfielder.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentLuna, meanwhile, had become a fan favorite for the energy he brought into the matches and the toughness he showed, especially following a broken nose during a January 2025 match against Costa Rica. The Real Salt Lake star has made 18 appearances for the U.S. with 17 of them coming under Pochettino. Luna’s absence during the March international window was due to a knee injury, but he has since played seven times for RSL and at least 70 minutes in six of them.Real Salt Lake's Diego Luna didn't make the cut for the 2026 World Cup despite featuring heavily for Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT squad throughout the build up to the tournament.Eston Parker/ISI Photos via Getty ImagesLuna’s RSL teammate, 19-year-old Zavier Gozo, played his way into the conversation of many USMNT fans in the build up to the roster announcement. With six goals and 11 goal contributions through 14 matches, Gozo may have fallen short for 2026, but he will certainly be in the mix over the next several years in the build up to the 2030 World Cup.Aidan Morris was on the roster bubble and considering the lack of depth in midfield, it seemed as if the Middlesbrough man had a good at making the final 26. Despite a successful season in the English Championship and reaching the EFL Playoff Final and being called into the past three U.S. camps by Pochettino, there was no room for him. After playing impactful minutes during the 2022 World Cup, Yunus Musah has fallen off the USMNT map. The Atalanta midfielder, who was U.S. Soccer's Young Male Player of the Year in 2022, played sparingly for the Serie A side this season.Josh Sargent started two games at the 2022 World Cup, but the depth at striker within the U.S. roster pool has deepened. Folarin Bolgun, Ricardo Pepi and Haji Wright made the final roster. His inconsistent goal scoring record at Norwich City and now Toronto FC hurt his chances to scratch out a place among Pochettino’s attackers.Final rosters for the World Cup must be submitted by June 1, which means substitutions can still occur. The USMNT will play two friendlies before their June 12 World Cup opener against Paraguay. On Sunday, they will take on Senegal in Charlotte before their send-off match against Germany on June 6 against Germany in Chicago.

Supreme Court denies NFL's appeal to keep Brian Flores' discrimination case against league out of court
The U.S. Supreme Court denied on Tuesday a bid by the NFL to keep a discrimination case brought against the league by coach Brian Flores out of court. Flores, who is Black, is the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He sued the league in 2022, alleging discrimination in the league’s hiring practices for coaches and executives. In the class-action lawsuit that also names the Dolphins, Denver Broncos and New York Giants as defendants, Flores described the NFL as “rife with racism” and “managed much like a plantation.”From the lawsuit, which Flores filed after being fired by the Dolphins following the 2021 season:While racial barriers have been eroded in many areas, Defendant the National Football League (“NFL” or the “League”) lives in a time of the past. As described throughout this Class Action Complaint, the NFL remains rife with racism, particularly when it comes to the hiring and retention of Black Head Coaches, Coordinators and General Managers. The NFL responded that Flores’ lawsuit is “without merit” and stated that “diversity is core to everything we do.”NFL attempted to keep dispute out of courtThe NFL has attempted to settle the dispute through league-controlled arbitration and fought to keep it out of court. Lower courts had previously sided with the plaintiffs, and the NFL appealed to the Supreme Court to keep the dispute out of the legal system. The Supreme Court declined the NFL's bid to keep Brian Flores' discrimination case against the league out of court. AP Photo/Matt KrohnSupreme Court denies NFL’s appealThe Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to intervene in the dispute, upholding a lower court’s ruling to allow it to move forward in the Southern District of New York. Per the Associated Press, Justice Brett Kavanaugh dissented from the Court’s decision not to hear the case. Flores’ attorneys, David Gottlieb and Douglas Wigdor, issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision.“We are pleased that the Supreme Court declined to accept the NFL’s appeal. The NFL must now accept that its commissioner cannot be the arbitrator over discrimination claims against the league and its teams. We look forward to litigating these claims in court.”The NFL also responded to the decision via a statement:“We respect the Supreme Court’s decision not to grant review. Regardless of the forum, we are fully prepared to defend ourselves as this matter proceeds."What the lawsuit statesIn his lawsuit, Flores alleges that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 for each game that he intentionally lost in his first season on the job in 2019 in an effort to tank for the No. 1 pick in the draft. Flores states the he refused the offer. The Dolphins responded in a statement that they “vehemently deny any allegations of racial discrimination.”He also states that the Giants interviewed him for a head coaching vacancy solely to satisfy the NFL's Rooney Rule mandate requiring that teams interview minority candidates and with no intention of hiring him. The Giants instead hired Brian Daboll during that cycle and issued a statement that “Flores was in the conversation to be our head coach until the eleventh hour."Flores also accused then-Denver Broncos general manager John Elway and president Joe Ellis of showing up an hour late to interviewing him for head coach in 2019 when it “was obvious that they had drinking heavily the night before.”The Broncos at the time called the allegation “blatantly false.”More coaches have since joined lawsuitSince Flores filed the lawsuit, coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton, who are Black, have joined it. Wilks is a former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals whom the Cardinals fired after his single season on the job in 2018. Wilks’ attorneys argue that he was hired as a “bridge coach” and not given a fair chance to succeed in the job. The Cardinals drafted quarterback Kyler Murray with the No. 1 pick after firing Wilks and hired Kliff Kingsburgy to replace Wilks as head coach. They responded that they “are confident that the facts reflect that and demonstrate that these allegations are untrue.”Horton is a former NFL defensive back who worked as a defensive coordinator for the Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans in addition to various position coaching roles across the league. He alleges that the Titans conducted a sham interview with him for their head vacancy in 2016 after he had worked two seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator. The Titans instead hired Mike Mularkey, who had previously served as the team’s interim head coach. The Titans refuted the claim in a statement describing their 2016 head coach search as “an open and competitive process.”

Women's College World Series storylines: The underdogs, villains and history-makers to watch in Oklahoma City
Oklahoma is out, Mississippi State is in and this could be anyone's WCWS to win. (Joseph Raines/Yahoo Sports illustration)For the first time in more than a decade, the Women’s College World Series will go on without Oklahoma. Unseeded Mississippi State upset No. 3 Oklahoma 6-0 in Game 3 of the super regionals on Sunday, ending the Sooners’ stretch of nine consecutive WCWS berths. Eight-time national champion Oklahoma last missed the final tournament in 2015 (the NCAA tournament was not played in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic). The Sooners won four straight titles from 2021-24. Mississippi State (43-19) heads to Oklahoma City for the first time in program history as the underdog, earning its spot on a gutsy full-game shutout by junior lefty Delainey Everett. It was the first start of her career after pitching only 13.1 innings throughout the course of the season. “An underdog is still a freakin’ dog,” Everett said after securing their spot as the Cinderella of this year’s tournament. Eight teams. One dream. 🥎🔗 https://t.co/mWzbvHmFQC📲 https://t.co/2QO2igeQwl🎟️ https://t.co/QxhUYg5UXP#WCWSpic.twitter.com/MSlFWLYzRU— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) May 24, 2026The last time the Sooners were shut out at home was April 16, 2015 — a stretch of 4,056 days. The last time they were shut out at all was 399 days ago against Alabama in the 2019 WCWS. Seventh-year Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts played for the Sooners, finishing her playing career in 2009 as the program’s record-holder in career home runs (48) and RBIs (239). She started her coaching career as an assistant under head coach Patty Gasso. The final eight-team field includes five from the powerhouse SEC, led by reigning champion, No. 2 Texas. No. 1 Alabama, No. 5 Arkansas and No. 7 Tennessee also made it to Oklahoma City. The Razorbacks are in their first WCWS in program history and swept the NCAA tournament competition, 5-0, with every win by the run-rule. They are the second team in history to do so, joining 1995 national champion Arizona. The rest of the field is completed by No. 4 Nebraska and No. 8 UCLA out of the Big Ten, and No. 11 Texas Tech from the Big 12. Here are the major storylines Yahoo Sports is following at the WCWS, which begins on Thursday with a quadruple header. Nebraska’s title chase with a two-time Oklahoma champion in the circleNebraska is back in the WCWS for the first time since 2013 and only the third time in the last 25 years. The Cornhuskers reached the championship series once, in 1985, but the runner-up finish was vacated by the NCAA due to the use of ineligible players. The homegrown-heavy Cornhuskers (51-6) head to Oklahoma City boasting the game’s longest consecutive wins streak (26 games) and one of the best pitchers in the nation. Jordy Frahm (née Bahl) won back-to-back national championships at Oklahoma (2022-23) before transferring home ahead of the 2024 season. In her Cornhuskers debut, she sustained a torn ACL and redshirted the 2024 season. She credited the time away for returning better than ever. The 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Year is fourth in ERA (1.14), fourth in shutouts (eight), third in strike-to-walk ratio (7.80) and ninth in total strikeouts (234). The righty went 20-4 in the circle with a career-high 12 saves. In five tournament games, Frahm and freshman phenom Alexie Jensen have allowed two earned runs in 33 innings (0.42 ERA). Frahm, 23, is also one of their best hitters. She’s reached base safely in 46 consecutive games, with a .827 slugging percentage and team-high .511 on-base percentage. She leads all Huskers hitters with 19 home runs and is tied for second with 50 RBIs. The Cornhuskers won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. Texas Tech, star NiJaree Canady chasing elusive titleNiJaree Canady, the riseball ace known for becoming the sport’s first (and then second) $1 million player, is 4-for-4 on WCWS appearances in her collegiate career. Now she has one last shot to win a national title after finishing third in back-to-back seasons with Stanford and losing Game 3 to Texas last year. Once the darlings, the Red Raiders (57-7) now step back into the WCWS as the villain to many, including Florida fans amid a testy super regional series. It was their first top-10 opponent since the second week of the season. The Matador Club, Texas Tech’s NIL collective, reportedly offered seven players six-figure deals a year ago while they were still playing for other programs. FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON, THE RED RAIDERS ADVANCE TO THE WCWS ‼️#RoadToWCWS x 🎥 ESPNU / @TexasTechSBpic.twitter.com/lqi7SZn1PR— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) May 24, 2026“They had lawyers advising us, and the advice to me was to go coach softball," head coach Gerry Glasco said in comments that rubbed many the wrong way. "Stay out of it, don't contact anyone, you've got to go quiet … They'd handle building the roster for us."They filled in their roster with a massive (and expensive) transfer haul: junior infielder Mia Williams (Florida), junior infielder Taylor Panell (Tennessee), junior catcher Jasmyn Burns (Ohio State), junior pitcher Kaitlyn Terry (UCLA), senior utility Jackie Lis (Southern Illinois), junior pitcher Desirae Spearman (New Mexico State) and junior catcher Lagi Quiroga (Cal). The righty Canady is still one of the best pitchers in the nation despite higher stats than a year ago, and earned her 100th career win in the Game 3 super regional victory. But Glasco has pulled her early in multiple postseason games, and she gave up a total of 10 earned runs in 8.2 innings against Florida. She and Terry traded off time in the circle to run-rule the Gators in Game 3. Megan Grant could win titles in different sportsUCLA slugger Megan Grant could pull off a championship double. The two-time USA Softball Player of the Year finalist won a national championship ring with the basketball team in April after playing 14 games as a reserve early in the season. She called it a “side quest,” and added another by becoming the first in 31 years to re-set the home run record. She sits at 40 heading into the WCWS, a record she can move up, but will not lose since Oklahoma slugger Kendall Wells’ season is over.BRUINS HEAD TO THE WCWS FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR 👏#RoadToWCWS x 🎥 ESPN / @UCLASoftballpic.twitter.com/636u79kUbk— NCAA Softball (@NCAASoftball) May 24, 2026The Bruins (52-8) offense set NCAA single-season records in home runs (200), runs scored (651), RBIs (623), total bases (1,355) and extra-base hits (323). They lead the nation in scoring (10.85), slugging (.836), on-base percentage (.496) and walks (317), with a lineup that features the NCAA leader in homers, OBP, SLG and OPS (Grant); RBIs (Jordan Woolery) and runs scored (Rylee Slimp). The Bruins are the winningest program in the history of college softball, having won 12 NCAA championships (and one AIAW title). They are the only program to win a championship in every decade, though they have not won in the 2020s yet. Their last title was in 2019. Ace pitchers vs. bloated offensePitching is at a premium in a record-shattering season of strength and power. Many programs set single-season home run records this year, led by national record-setters Oklahoma and UCLA. The early innings of Texas Tech’s 16-7 Game 3 super regionals win showcased what could be to come. Both teams scored at least three runs in each half-inning until Florida went scoreless in the bottom of the fourth. Pitchers on both sides were chased, only to be re-inserted as the deep balls added up. There were a combined seven home runs. The rise in power is a result of better and additional analytics that began in Major League Baseball, as well as the athleticism of players coming up through the ranks. Nine teams hit at least 100 home runs, and the top six of them rank in the top 25 all-time in single-season homers. UCLA (200) and Texas Tech (136) are the only ones still in the field, followed by Alabama (96), Nebraska (93) and Texas (90). The WCWS field includes three 2025 first-team All-American pitchers — Canady, Frahm and Tennessee’s Karlyn Pickens — who will try to limit the damage. The Lady Vols (47-10) boast the nation’s best pitching staff (1.35), closely followed by Alabama (1.48). Sophomore righty Erin Nuwer (0.99 ERA) and junior right-hander Sage Mardjetko (1.12 ERA) rank second and third in ERA, respectively, with Pickens (1.53) in 10th. They slid into their first back-to-back WCWS appearances since 2012-13 with a bare-bones five total runs in two wins over Georgia (3-1, 2-1). Alabama (54-7) is led by junior Jocelyn Briski (1.30 ERA) and freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi (1.47 ERA), trailed closely by freshman Vic Moten (1.66) at 11th overall. Texas heads back to Oklahoma City with reigning WCWS Most Outstanding Player Teagan Kavan in the circle.

Cole Palmer: Dramatic shift in Chelsea’s stance on United-linked forwardManchester United find themselves in a promising financial position as they head into the summer transfer window, having secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.INEOS spent approximately £200 million last summer despite the absence of European football. As such, it would not surprise many if United go even further this time in their bid to strengthen Michael Carrick’s side. The contrasting fortunes of their fierce rivals may also boost the Red Devils’ rebuild.Chelsea willing to sell Cole PalmerChelsea recorded an embarrassing 10th-place finish in the Premier League, failing to qualify for any European competition. The Blues now find themselves in a financial predicament and could be forced to consider selling their star players, especially if they want to bring in Xabi Alonso‘s preferred targets to Stamford Bridge.According to The Sun, only Moises Caicedo is considered “untouchable” at Chelsea, raising questions over the future of Cole Palmer. It is claimed that £80 million would be “a starting point for negotiations to buy” the Chelsea number 10.Palmer, who was born in Wythenshawe and is a boyhood United fan, has frequently been linked with a return to Manchester.Earlier this month, The Daily Mail claimed that “there remain sources outside of Chelsea who continue to claim he would consider such a move privately.”Cole Palmer Stats: 2025/26 SeasonHowever, United’s stance on making a move for the 24-year-old Chelsea talisman this summer remains unclear, with the club focused on renewing Bruno Fernandes’ contract.Chelsea remain keen on Kobbie MainooChelsea, meanwhile, have set their sights on United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. The London outfit tried to sign Mainoo last summer after seeing him struggle for minutes under Ruben Amorim. However, the United academy gem had no desire to leave the club permanently. Why Kyle Busch's mark of 234 NASCAR wins will never be touched
Kyle Busch’s NASCAR wins record will never be broken.Busch, 41, died Thursday after he contracted sepsis while dealing with a case of pneumonia. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion recorded 234 wins across NASCAR’s Cup Series, second-tier O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and third-tier Craftsman Truck Series over a career that spanned 26 seasons.Busch’s win mark dwarfs any other active driver and almost any other driver in NASCAR history, period. Only Richard Petty, who won 200 Cup Series races throughout his career, along with one in NASCAR’s long-defunct convertible series, is close to Busch’s career wins mark. And though Petty’s 200 wins all came in the Cup Series and has long served as the NASCAR gold standard for excellence, there’s a strong case to be made that Busch’s record deserves to stand alongside Petty’s.How Richard Petty got his wins200 wins in 1,184 Cup Series startsFirst win: Charlotte, 1960Last win: Daytona, 1984Petty has long held the title of greatest NASCAR driver ever thanks to his seven Cup Series championships to go along with his 200 wins. Only Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson have as many titles and David Pearson, with 105 victories, is the only other driver with more than 100 Cup Series wins. The man known as “The King” posted some absurd stats during his career. In 1967, he won 27 of 48 races while finishing in the top 10 in all but eight of his starts. Four years later, Petty won 21 of the 46 races he entered and had 41 top-10 finishes. Overall, Petty had 555 top-five finishes and had a top-10 rate of over 60% throughout his career. However, there are a few caveats to Petty’s record. Especially when compared to modern NASCAR. The sanctioning body defines its modern era from 1972 to the present day. Before 1972, NASCAR’s schedule at the top level was a hodgepodge. During that 1967 Grand National series season, 15 races were held in June and July alone, with many coming just days apart from each other.Petty was the only driver to race in 48 races and just 10 competed in 40 or more races. James Hylton finished second to Petty in the standings by competing in 46 races and scoring 26 top fives while never finishing on the lead lap. The competition in the nascent days of NASCAR wasn’t exactly fierce. But Petty was still incredibly good once the modern era began and NASCAR’s slimmed-down Cup Series schedule took shape. He won 13 of 30 races in 1975 on the way to his sixth title, a year after winning 10 races for his fifth. His seventh title came in 1979, when he finished fifth at Ontario to slip past Darrell Waltrip by 11 points. How Busch got his wins234 wins in 1,313 NASCAR starts63 Cup wins in 762 starts102 O’Reilly wins in 367 starts69 Truck wins in 184 startsFirst win: Richmond, 2004 (O’Reilly)Last win: Dover, 2026 (Truck)Busch ranks ninth all-time among Cup Series wins leaders and is the winningest driver in O’Reilly and Truck Series history. He has more than twice as many wins as second-place Mark Martin (49) in the O’Reilly Series, and 18 more than second-place Ron Hornaday in the Truck Series. From 2010 through 2013, Busch won 33 O’Reilly Series races. It’s a remarkable achievement made even more so when you remember that Busch went winless in 2012. That year, he drove for his own Kyle Busch Motorsports team as it moved up to NASCAR’s second tier instead of for his longtime Cup Series team Joe Gibbs Racing. All but 21 of Busch’s Truck Series wins came while he was driving for his own team. After he didn’t win in any of his three starts in the series in 2012, Busch won at least won Truck Series for the next 14 years -- and even won all five of his starts in 2019.Overall, Busch posted four seasons with at least 10 or more wins in the O’Reilly Series and had two eight-win seasons in the Cup Series. His first eight-win season came in 2008, when he finished 10th in NASCAR’s Chase. Ten years later, Busch won eight races again, but he finished fourth among the four title contenders in NASCAR’s winner-take-all championship race.Like Petty in many of his pre-modern era races, Busch was in top-tier equipment against drivers with far less talent and far less equipment in many of his second and third-level wins. That’s indisputable. But Busch’s win rate of over 30% in the Truck Series is still staggering even in that context. Why no one will get close anytime soon … or everAmong all drivers, Kevin Harvick ranks a distant third to Busch and Petty with 121 wins across all three series. Among active drivers, Busch’s lead was colossal.Denny Hamlin is now the active leader in wins across all series with 81, while Brad Keselowski has 76. Both drivers are in their 40s and, in Hamlin’s case, the 2027 season may be his last. Neither race regularly below the Cup Series any longer anyway. They probably won’t be adding a bunch more wins to their totals.Joey Logano is third among active drivers with 69 wins, and Kyle Larson is fourth with 55. Both are in their 30s, but they’re also not running many lower-tier races either. There’s not an active driver who is going to sniff Busch and Petty in total wins. The main reason is pretty simple. It’s tougher to dominate the Cup Series in the 2020s than it was in Petty’s day. And as Cup drivers like Busch were dominating the O’Reilly and Truck Series, NASCAR moved to institute race limits for Cup drivers in the lower series. The current limit is 10 O’Reilly Series races and eight Truck races per season for veteran drivers. For the previous five seasons, experienced Cup drivers were limited to just five O’Reilly races a season.Drivers simply don’t have the opportunities Busch did in the 2010s. In 2009, Busch ran the full Cup and O’Reilly schedule along with 18 Truck Series races. He started 89 of a possible 96 races. But even if NASCAR immediately loosened its race restrictions and allowed Cup drivers to compete with the frequency that Busch did, no one is going to win like he did, either. He was NASCAR’s unicorn, and his win record will always reflect that.

Boston Media Personality Pitches Blockbuster Jayson Tatum–Donovan Mitchell Trade Idea
Boston Media Personality Pitches Blockbuster Jayson Tatum–Donovan Mitchell Trade Idea originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. There has been considerable speculation in the NBA about the Celtics' trading Jaylen Brown this offseason. However, there's also the question of whether Boston might opt to keep Brown and instead look into trading Jayson Tatum.Although the chances of the Celtics moving Tatum are extremely low —around 1% — they are acutely aware of how his recovery from the Achilles injury could affect his performance. If there are any lingering concerns about his ability to bounce back to his previous form, Boston might reassess its stance. Recently, James Stewart from 98.5 The Sports Hub shared an intriguing trade proposal worth considering.Stewart suggested that the Celtics consider trading Tatum and Derrick White to the Cavs in exchange for Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen, and three unprotected first-round picks."How about Tatum and White to the Cavs for Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen and three future unprotected 1st round picks," Stewart wrote Tuesday on X. "This trade saves the Celtics about $16 million."The Celtics would be losing their best player, but Mitchell is also a top-10 talent in the NBA, and Allen is one of the better centers. Boston could pair Mitchell and Brown in the backcourt, allowing Allen to take the starting spot at center. Boston would also have a nice future set up with three first-round picks, but it would be hard to move on from Tatum since his ceiling is higher than Mitchell's.More NBA: Celtics Predicted To Add 'Strong Power Forward' Who Could Form New Duo With Jayson Tatum

Texans, WR Nico Collins agree to adjusted contract, $17 million raise after trade rumors
The Houston Texans have locked Nico Collins down for the next two seasons. The Texans reached a deal with their star wide receiver on Tuesday afternoon that guarantees his salary for the next two seasons and gives him a $17 million raise before he hits free agency in 2028, his agents told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Collins was entering the final year of a three-year, $72 million deal with the team this fall that included a possible out at the end of the season. He was set to earn $20 million this fall, and about $21.2 million next season, both of which were significantly below market value. He’ll now earn $29 million this season and about $29.2 million during the 2027 campaign, which makes him the 11th-highest paid wide receiver in the league. By comparison, Seattle Seahawks star Jaxson Smith-Njigba makes more than $42 million a season. Ja’Maar Chase is the only other wide receiver in the league making more than $40 million a season. Collins, who the Texans selected with the No. 89th overall pick out of Michigan in 2021, just racked up his third straight 1,000-yard campaign last fall. He had 1,117 yards and six touchdowns last season while helping Houston reach a third straight playoff appearance. They ended up losing in the divisional round to the New England Patriots.Collins had been the subject of trade rumors earlier this offseason too, especially due to his contract. Before the raise, he was the 18th-highest paid wide receiver in the league. But the Texans wanted nothing to do with that. “We’re not trading Nico Collins,” Texans general manager Nick Caseiro said during the NFL Draft last month, via ESPN. “Whoever reported it or whatever information they had, they can shove it. We’re not trading Nico.”While he’s still well back of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, Collins got his raise. This post will be updated with more information shortly.

After several years as assistant, Eddy Wagner set to slide over a seat at Park Tudor
The coaching bug bit Eddy Wagner in college.Wagner started out after graduating from high school at North Central with his own dreams of playing basketball. But after transferring from Hanover College to Indiana State after his freshman year, he saw the other side as a manager and practice player for the women’s basketball team.“I fell in love with the planning and scouting and all of those different things,” he said. “I had kind of a unique experience.”It is a coaching journey that landed the 31-year-old Wagner his first head coaching job at Park Tudor. Wagner, an assistant at Park Tudor for seven years, will replace Tim Adams, who stepped down as the Panthers’ coach and was hired at Bishop Chatard last week.“It’s definitely something I’ve been eyeing,” Wagner said of becoming a head coach. “My thought was always to try to be a star in my role at Park Tudor and prepare myself as much as possible.”After college, Wagner started out as an assistant at Park Tudor in 2017, then left to join Jason Gardner’s staff at North Central in 2020-21. He returned to Park Tudor for the next two years, spent one year at Lawrence Central, then returned to Park Tudor again two years ago.Wagner is a health and wellness teacher at Park Tudor.“Park Tudor provides a great opportunity for academics and athletics,” Wagner said. “With me teaching and coaching there the last few years, I feel like I’ve built great relationships within the community. I’ve definitely had some people backing me as I worked my way up.”Wagner, who also coaches the Indy Heat 17U EYBL team, counts Adams among his mentors.“Tim has been phenomenal,” Wagner said. “I left (Park Tudor) twice and came back mostly because of him. Aston Villa Eye €35m-Rated Serie A Player: Right Choice From Emery?
Aston Villa Eye €35m-Rated Serie A Player: Right Choice From Emery?AS Roma face a pressing need to sell players before the end-of-June cut-off for Serie A’s financial fair play regulations, and that situation has placed Matias Soule squarely in the transfer spotlight. According to Sport Witness and Il Messaggero, Aston Villa have made initial contact with the 23-year-old’s entourage, and Unai Emery’s side hold no intention of backing away from their pursuit. Bournemouth also registered interest, yet the Villans appear noticeably further ahead in that race.Aston Villa move ahead as Soule’s Roma future unravelsSoule’s standing inside the Roma dressing room has shifted considerably in recent months. He once occupied a central role in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans, but a frustrating run of muscle injuries and a goal drought stretching back to January has eroded that goodwill significantly.Roma will evaluate offers for Soule, who may be sold this summer after fitness issues and no goals since January, with the club reportedly unwilling to offer discounts despite their financial situation. Roma currently value him at €35m, a figure they expect interested clubs to match rather than negotiate around. From the player’s side, a move to the Premier League carries genuine appeal, and Soule himself now waits in uncertainty, his future resting entirely on how seriously suitors pursue him.Aston Villa could accelerate the deal as Malen funds arriveVilla are looking to sell both Donyell Malen and Evann Guessand, with Malen completing a permanent move to Roma, which will help bring in funds to sign the 23-year-old Argentine attacker. That financial clarity gives Emery a genuine runway to act swiftly. Is this the right call from Emery?NAPLES, ITALY – FEBRUARY 15: Matias Soule of AS Roma during the Serie A match between SSC Napoli and AS Roma at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on February 15, 2026 in Naples, Italy. (Photo by Francesco Pecoraro/Getty Images)Frankly, yes, and the timing is very significant here. Villa’s interest in Soule could signal a shift towards a more youth-centred approach, something that will prove crucial as they look to build the next generation of stars, with the current squad not exactly being on the younger side. Emery has squeezed considerable quality from his inherited group, but that group ages each season without meaningful renewal at the top end.Soule’s left-footed style, close control, and tendency to drift inside have drawn stylistic comparisons with Ángel Di María, exactly the type of profile that thrives inside Emery’s structured attacking system. Furthermore, the Italian club’s historically lower patience with young players in difficult form means Roma sell from a position of frustration rather than genuine belief in Soule’s decline.Villa would essentially inherit a player who has more to prove and every reason to prove it. At €35m for a player with five years on his contract and clear upside, Aston Villa would be buying quality.

NCAA reportedly denies Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby's request for reinstatement to play in 2026
Brendan Sorsby’s attempt to play in 2026 will likely have to come through the court system.According to ESPN, the NCAA has blocked the Texas Tech QB’s request for reinstatement to play for the 2026 season as he recently completed inpatient treatment for a gambling addiction. Tech announced earlier this spring that Sorsby was seeking treatment after placing numerous bets throughout his college career.Sorsby, who transferred to Tech from Cincinnati over the offseason, placed a bet on Indiana while he was a member of the Hoosiers in 2022. Reggie Miller wants ‘podcasters’ to tone down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander criticism: ‘People weren’t saying this about MJ’
Credit: Daniel Dunn - Imagn Images; The Dan Patrick ShowThe entire NBA world is ablaze once again with chatter around reigning two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his penchant for drawing fouls, but Reggie Miller wants it all to stop.Gilgeous-Alexander has almost single-handedly turned the Oklahoma City Thunder into an NBA villain with his supposed “foul-baiting,” a reputation which has followed him for awhile now, dating back at least to last year’s postseason, when ESPN’s Doris Burke tagged SGA with the label of “free-throw merchant.”But in an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show ahead of Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, Miller suggested that the controversy around SGA’s style of play was overblown by “podcasters” and not based in reality.“I understand we’ve got to have this conversation, but … people have way too much time, because it’s SGA’s job to play the game of basketball,” Miller said. “He’s not playing the game and officiating the game. So be more upset at the officials and how they have called it. He’s not blowing the whistle for himself.”Miller then noted that SGA’s free-throw average per game is actually down from the regular season, and suggested that those observing any unreasonable grifting from the Thunder star may not, as the kids say, truly know ball.“He is below his average, his season average,” Miller said. “People think he’s going to the free-throw line 15 times a game. He’s only going eight times, people. So podcasters, y’all just need to stop. He’s playing the game of basketball.”Of course, given that Burke was one of the first national commentators to take aim at SGA’s controversial style of pay in the context of Oklahoma City’s team success, the notion that the criticism is coming from anonymous online critics is silly. But whether SGA is truly more of a grifter than other modern NBA stars is certainly up for debate. Miller believes he is not, even listing Luka Doncic as an example that is more damaging to team success.Miller also raised another example by way of defending SGA, claiming that SGA’s polish and excellence as a player is under-appreciated because of people’s focus on his foul-drawing. The redundant analysis, Miller said, was never given to all-time greats with similar styles, such as Michael Jordan.“It’s not like Luka getting up every play, complaining to the officials, staying back, hanging back,” Miller explained.“Every time (SGA) falls to the floor on a non-call, who has the advantage now? The opposing team. It’s a five-on-four. Make them pay. They’re not making them pay because he doesn’t get up complaining. He gets up and runs back.“I think he’s built up goodwill with the officials. People need to stop this. I’m serious. For as much hate as a two-time MVP gets, this guy has a polished game. People weren’t saying this about MJ. MJ was going to the free-throw line, MJ never complained.”Any comparison to Jordan is likely to appear absurd at face value, but Miller’s larger point is clearly to put SGA’s style and substance in the context of NBA history. And as a Hall of Fame player and longtime commentator, that is his job.If Miller is willing to go to bat so strongly for Gilgeous-Alexander, perhaps the tide can eventually turn toward focusing on the greatness in his game rather than solely the less aesthetically pleasing plays. The post Reggie Miller wants ‘podcasters’ to tone down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander criticism: ‘People weren’t saying this about MJ’ appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Zendejas was bypassed for the March roster after a knee injury last fall.Reyna, a son of former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna, nearly was sent home from the 2022 World Cup by then-coach Gregg Berhalter for lack of hustle and made just four starts this season for Borussia Mönchengladbach — none since Dec. 19. He is viewed by Pochettino as a “special player.”Sebastian Berhalter, a 25-year-old son of the former coach, made his national team debut last June and became the Americans’ best corner-kick taker.Players dropped who had been on the March roster included goalkeeper Patrick Schulte along with Tessmann and fellow midfielder Aidan Morris. The top two teams in each of 12 groups advance to the new round of 32 in the expanded 48-nation tournament along with the eight third-place nations.Ream could become the oldest American to appear in a World Cup at 38 years, 250 days when the U.S. plays its opener, older than defender Fernando Clavijo when the U.S. was knocked out by Brazil in 1994’s round of 16.Defender Alex Freeman, a son of former Super Bowl champion Antonio Freeman, is the youngest player at 21.No. 3 goalkeeper Chris Brady is the first player on the U.S. World Cup roster with no international experience since backup goalkeeper Juergen Sommer in 1994.The roster:Goalkeepers: Chris Brady (Chicago), Matt Freese (New York City), Matt Turner (New England)Defenders: Max Arfsten (Columbus), Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven), Alex Freeman (Villarreal), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse), Tim Ream (Charlotte), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Miles Robinson (Cincinnati), Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Auston Trusty (Celtic)Midfielders: Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver), Weston McKennie (Juventus), Gio Reyna (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Cristian Roldan (Seattle), Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen)Forwards: Brenden Aaronson (Leeds), Folarin Balogun (Monaco), Ricardo Pepi (PSV Eindhoven), Christian Pulisic (AC Milan), Tim Weah (Marseille), Haji Wright (Coventry), Alejandro Zendejas (América)Download the FREE Boston 25 News app for breaking news alerts.Follow Boston 25 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch Boston 25 News NOW

Futkeu and Hrgota keep Fürth in 2. Bundesliga in their last game
Futkeu and Hrgota keep Fürth in 2. Bundesliga in their last gameNoel Futkeu and Branimir Hrgota rescued Greuther Fürth one last time as they came from behind to beat Rot-Weiss Essen in the relegation/promotion playoff tie between the 16th-placed 2. Bundesliga side and a club finishing third in 3. Liga. The hosts were desperate to tie the score as soon as possible, but they would've been further behind if it wasn't for Silas Prüfrock. The shot-stopper denied Gianluca Swajkowski from close range before tipping over Torben Müsel's superb strike over the bar. Apart from the lively Sayfallah Ltaief getting into promising positions and Jannick Dehm's misplaced cross hitting the crossbar, Heiko Vogel's men struggled to break RWE's resistance inside the first half hour. However, it finally took one well-worked move by their three high-profile attackers to level the score.Hrgota and Felix Klaus were decisive in Futkeu's 20th goal of the season. The Eintracht Frankfurt-bound striker reacted the quickest for a simple tap-in that changed the complexion of the game. Fürth were all over RWE for the rest of the half as the momentum suddenly shifted. After his heroics against his former club Fortuna Düsseldorf in the last game at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer, Klaus came close to complete the turnaround from a difficult angle. Jakob Golz also had to make his first save after a powerful shot from Sascha Bansé, who was playing for the first time in nine months after a knee surgery.Kaito Mizuta did score at the other end ten minutes before the half-time whistle, but Jaka Cuber Potocnik was clearly in an offside position before his cutback led to the opportunity. The sides entered the break with all to play for in potentially the final half of an evenly-matched tie.Uwe Koschinat started the second-half with his first substitution as ex-Fürth striker Dickson Abiama replaced Ramien Saffi. The Nigerian striker failed to track the movement of his former teammate Hrgota in the other box inside the first two minutes.Hrgota, who was playing his last Fürth game like Futkeu, curled home a brilliant strike to put the hosts ahead with Prüfrock unmoved. In an end-to-end start to the half, both goalkeepers made decent saves denying Michael Kostka and Ltaief. Another Essen substitute, Lucas Brumme, made a quick impression with a delightful cross for Cuber Potocnik's strike, but their goal was once again chalked off for an offside. Ten minutes before time, they came close once again when Abiama's header hit the post. Müsel, who scored the only goal of the first-leg on Friday, could only head the ball close to Prüfrock from the rebound. There was more concern for Fürth when Mizota failed to hit the target when he faced Prüfrock in one-on-one chance. They held on for the 2-0 victory that was enough to avoid relegation at the end.Fürth will be competing in 2. Bundesliga for the fifth consecutive season next term. The Green and Whites kept their record of not dropping outside Germany’s top two divisions in the 21st century. Hrgota and Futkeu were the star performers in their last game for the club. The latter finished the 2. Bundesliga season as a top-scorer before rejoining Frankfurt, while Fürth's 2. Bundesliga all-time leading scorer leaves as a free agent after seven years.Similarly, RWE are heading for their fifth 3. Liga campaign in succession. It'd have been their first 2. Bundesliga season in 20 years with a different outcome tonight. VfL Osnabrück and Energie Cottbus won automatic promotion in places of relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf and Preußen Münster.

'No ego': Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reveals what makes Chet Holmgren Thunder's X-Factor
'No ego': Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reveals what makes Chet Holmgren Thunder's X-Factor originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Adjustment is the name of the game when it comes to a pivotal Game 5 in the NBA Playoffs. The San Antonio Spurs have already figured out the Oklahoma City Thunder which means Coach Mark Daigneault needs to adjust. One pivotal person that the team led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is Chet Holmgren. The big man has one intangible skill that the two-time NBA MVP really likes.Gilgeous-Alexander boasts Holmgren's lack of ego as Thunder's X-FactorGame 5 will all come down to whether someone is able to step up for the Thunder. Without a doubt, Coach Mark Daigneault expects Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to come back to his MVP self after a horrendous Game 4 loss. Alongside him, there is also an expectation for Chet Holmgren to double-up his production against Victor Wembanyama. Why are the Thunder so confident in Holmgren? Gilgeous-Alexander had an immediate answer and it was all because their big man exuded great intangibles so far in the NBA Playoffs, via Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic."Chet doesn’t care about anything besides winning, and he’s gonna do what it takes to win. That’s his biggest skill … no ego. No agenda. No nothing besides trying to go out there and win. I have no doubt in my mind that Chet will go out there and give the game his all and put in his full effort. And that’s all you can ask from guys. Go out there and give it their all and see where it takes," the two-time Thunder MVP said.Holmgren has not been the best throughout this series against the Spurs. In Game 4, he was only able to produce 14 points, three rebounds, and an assist. Popping off in Game 5 would be huge for the hopes of the Thunder to win this series. If the lack of ego ever translates, it needs to be now for the Thunder.More Thunder News:Shai Gilgeous-Alexander usurps Russell Westbrook in huge Thunder franchise recordThunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander unveil new Chet Holmgren plan to beat SpursThunder have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Chet Holmgren problems that Spurs exposed

(Photo by Mohamed Hossam/Getty Images) | Getty Images Hamzah Sheeraz spent some time talking to Ring Magazine and after touching base on a but of recent events around the sport, Sheeraz was asked about whether he’d entertain the idea of a rematch with Carlos Adames, whom he drew with back in 2025. So when asked about his future plans at super middleweight and then Adames specifically, here’s what Sheeraz had to say. “We’re at that level now where it’s about getting the biggest fights and getting as many as the titles as I can, and I truly believe I can become undisputed at 168,” Sheeraz said. “Because I don’t speak about it much, and because I don’t entertain these Twitter conversations people think ‘oh, he’s closed to the idea of having that [rematch with Adames] but once that gets presented to me, we’ll go. “It’ll be similar to like the Berlanga fight, you know what I mean, where I shut up all the critics and be like ‘now what? What’s next?”Sheeraz most recently stopped Alem Begic on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven.

PLAYER RATINGS | Saint-Étienne 0-0 OGC Nice: All level in promotion/relegation playoff ahead of second-leg deciderLigue 1 Relegation/Promotion Playoff, First-Leg, 26/05/2026AS Saint-Étienne hosted OGC Nice in the first leg of their relegation/promotion playoff. It was a match that could have perhaps been played without goalkeepers to a similar result, as both sides looked content to go into Friday’s decider on a goalless draw. The MatchIt was always going to be a cagey affair with the two sides playing for a place in Ligue 1. There weren’t too many chances of note for either team in the first half, with neither Yehvan Diouf in the Nice goal nor Gautier Larsonneur in Saint-Étienne’s needing to make too many interventions. There was a physical edge to the game, which left Hicham Boudaoui unable to continue in the 11th minute. Minutes before, he came off worse in an accidental collision with Abdoulaye Kanté, suffering a blow to the head that left him dazed and needing to be replaced by Charles Vanhoutte.Saint-Étienne believed they were about to receive a penalty when VAR called the referee over to take another look at Kojo Peprah Oppong’s tackle on Luan Gadegbeku just outside the area. However, instead, they were left bitterly disappointed when the referee overturned the decision to award them a free kick and pointed instead to a drop ball. Down the other end, they were perhaps a bit fortunate to escape conceding a penalty when Lucas Stassin cleared the ball with a high kick and made contact with Oppong. The start of the second half didn’t bring many changes to how the game was playing out, with neither side getting a firm foothold until around the hour mark. By then, Saint-Étienne’s youthful energy was beginning to show signs that they were growing into the occasion, although they were still limited to potshots from distance rather than meaningful challenges to Diouf’s goals. The match wouldn’t so much fizzle out, because that would suggest there was some sort of spark in the first place. But it would end without either side having shown much on the pitch. More will certainly come on Friday when their fates for next season are decided at an empty Allianz Riviera. OGC Nice Player RatingsYehvann Diouf, 5Kojo Peprah Oppong, 6Juma Bah, 7Back in the team after missing the Coupe de France final with the reinstatement of club captain Dante. Trump administration raises US refugee cap, but only for white South Africans
President Donald Trump greets South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, center, at the White House, May 21, 2025, in Washington. (AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson, File)2026-05-26T17:01:53Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration said Tuesday that it will admit an additional 10,000 white South Africans into the U.S. as refugees this year, increasing its historically low annual cap but still blocking people from other countries from entering through the program. Trump suspended the refugee program on his first day in office and, since then, has turned it into a vehicle to allow Afrikaners — a group of white South Africans descended mainly from Dutch settlers — into the U.S. Advocates say the decision to focus a decades-old program on one group has left people around the world fleeing war and strife stranded and with few options. The administration says Afrikaners are subject to persecution in their home country, a charge the government in South Africa denies. In the Tuesday announcement on the Federal Register, President Donald Trump said that because of “an unforeseen emergency refugee situation” he was raising the refugee cap. He blamed the South African government for “recent increases in the incitement of racially motivated violence” but gave no specific information.“I hereby determine that the admission to the United States of Afrikaners from South Africa in response to this emergency is justified by the grave humanitarian concerns and is otherwise in the national interest,” Trump said in the announcement. Democrats criticize refugee capThe administration indicated last year that it would approve up to 7,500, mostly Afrikaners, during the fiscal year stretching from October 2025 through September 2026, but last week, in a notice to Congress informing it of the increase, the administration said that “unforeseen developments in South Africa created an emergency refugee situation.” The change raises the limit to 17,500.Christopher Landau, the deputy secretary of state, and Troy Edgar, the deputy secretary of Homeland Security, met with key congressional committees on Thursday as part of the legally required consultation process with lawmakers, according to two people who were granted anonymity to discuss a private meeting. During the hour-long session, Landau told lawmakers that one of the ways that Afrikaners had faced persecution at home was the erasure of their history in school textbooks, according to the people with knowledge of the meeting. The discussion infuriated Democrats, who called the approach and the consultation “indefensible.” Read More The State Department did not return a request for comment on the interaction. “The administration’s shameful approach to refugee resettlement is organized around prioritizing white-only Afrikaners and betraying everyone else, including thousands of Afghan allies who risked their lives for our nation, and thousands of other approved and vetted refugees twisting in the wind,” said Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois and Alex Padilla of California, and Democratic Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Pramila Jayapal of Washington in a statement. Inside the meeting, Democrats also pressed the administration on religious minorities in other nations, particularly in Iran, and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan indicated that it was an issue the administration should look at, the people said. Jordan raised the case of Saleh Mohammadi, a 19-year-old star wrestler who was hanged in Iran with two other young men in March after being sentenced on charges of “moharabeh,” or “waging war against God,” another person with knowledge of the meeting said. Thousands of mostly white South Africans already admittedThe State Department has already approved more than 6,000 people through the refugee program since the beginning of the fiscal year in October, according to official data. All of those were from South Africa except for three people from Afghanistan.Presidents set the cap on how many refugees the U.S. will approve through the program each year, and historically, they’ve allocated those numbers across various geographic regions while factoring in wars or conflicts that spark humanitarian needs around the globe. The refugee program, administered by the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, is distinct from asylum. People hoping to come through the refugee program must be living abroad and undergo vetting and other checks before being admitted to the U.S., whereas those seeking asylum are already on U.S. soil. A visa, however, is not a guarantee that the holder will be allowed to enter the U.S. During his first administration, Trump slashed the number of refugees approved every year. Then the Biden administration built the system back up, setting a goal of admitting 125,000 refugees in his last year in office.Groups that have for decades helped resettle refugees in the U.S. have sued to allow people who were in the refugee application process but are now stranded to be allowed to come to the U.S. “For nearly half a century, the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program embodied a simple but powerful, bipartisan idea: that the United States would offer safety to the world’s most vulnerable refugees,” said Beth Oppenheim, President & CEO of HIAS, in a statement. “This administration is now dismantling that legacy in plain sight.” REBECCA SANTANA Santana covers the Department of Homeland Security for The Associated Press. As US stock market hits new highs, 2 of 3 Americans are cutting back on spending, survey shows
The per-gallon prices for the various grades of gasoline available at a gas station are displayed on a sign above the pumps, Sunday, May 24, 2026, in southeast Denver. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)2026-05-26T14:13:05Z WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. consumer confidence declined slightly this month as gas prices stayed high and inflation remained elevated, a sharp contrast to soaring stock prices hover near record levels. The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index slipped 0.7 points to 93.1 in May, the first decline after three months of gains. The measure hasn’t fallen as much this year as other gauges of consumer attitudes, but it has been stuck at a low level since the pandemic. Before COVID-19, it regularly reached 130. A separate gauge of consumer sentiment released last week by the University of Michigan fell to a record low this month. Soaring gas and food costs have worsened inflation that is outpacing the average growth in paychecks, reducing most Americans’ purchasing power. Americans have soured on President Trump’s economic policies, polls show, potentially creating problems for Republicans heading into the midterm elections. Consumer sentiment is mostly gloomy even as the economy is still growing and the unemployment rate has stayed low. Some economists argue that the gap reflects inequality in a “K-shaped” economy, with higher-income Americans benefitting from rising stock prices and still spending while lower-income households struggle. Tuesday’s consumer confidence survey showed that confidence grew among households with incomes at or above $100,000, while it fell for most others. Read More “The prospect of higher prices and faster inflation continues to loom over confidence readings with many households taking a more cautious approach to purchases this year,” Ben Ayers, Nationwide senior economist, said. There were some positive signs, Ayers noted: Americans’ expectations for growth six months in the future improved, potentially a sign they expect the Iran war to be over by then. Still, Americans’ outlook on the job market worsened slightly. The proportion of respondents who said jobs are “plentiful” dropped to 25.5%, the lowest in three years. At the same time, just 18.6% said jobs were “hard to get,” the smallest percentage since October. The findings reflect the “low-hire, low-fire” job market that has made it harder for those out of work to obtain new jobs. Gas prices have soared to a nationwide average of $4.49 a gallon from $2.98 just before the war began at the end of February, and have been at or above $4.50 a gallon for nearly all of May. This month, the Conference Board added special questions to its survey, which found rising prices have caused most Americans to change their spending habits. Two-thirds of respondents said they are cutting back spending in response to the increases, with most of those reducing overall purchases and delaying more expensive acquisitions. Many consumers are also planning to economize on clothes, shoes, hobby items, and toys and games, the survey found. Inflation jumped to 3.8% in April, the highest in three years and far above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. In addition to more expensive gas, grocery prices have also started rising more quickly, likely driven by higher shipping costs. Beef prices have also risen sharply, as drought and other factors have reduced cattle herds. The higher prices are reducing Americans’ average inflation-adjusted incomes. Average hourly earnings, adjusted for price changes, shrank in April from a year earlier for the first time in three years. Other data also suggests consumers have grown more cautious amid rising prices. Adjusted for inflation, retail sales actually declined in April, after a solid increase in March. And the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index fell to a record-low 44.8 in May, its third straight decline, as a majority of respondents said rising prices were hurting their personal finances. Indiana men’s basketball: Date moved for 2026-27 matchup with Kentucky
Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope reaches out to Kentucky Wildcats forward Mouhamed Dioubate (23) after he helped spark the Cats' win over Indiana in the second half during Saturday's college basketball game at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky December 13, 2025. | Matt Stone/Courier Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The next installment in Indiana men’s basketball’s ongoing series with Kentucky, originally scheduled for December 20th, 2026, has now been moved to November 20th. After an away game at Rupp Arena last year, this game will be at an Indiana-friendly neutral site, Lucas Oil Stadium. Seemingly the most significant part of this announcement is that the game moved from a Sunday to Friday, signifying a move to a primetime slot. This could make for a big revenge opportunity for Darian DeVries, who lost by 12 points at Kentucky last year, his first season as Indiana’s head coach. Both teams will look significantly different than the groups that saw each other last year, a product of heavy attrition and rebuilding via the transfer portal. The Wildcats lost seven players to the portal this past offseason, adding five, most notably Zoom Diallo and Frank Kepnang, who both came from Washington. Indiana has six newcomers, replacing the six players it lost to the portal following 2025-26. Now that things have settled, Indiana’s transfer class finished fourth in 247’s rankings, while Kentucky’s came in at 12th. Last year’s results aside, this could be a chance for DeVries to earn the first statement non-conference win of his Indiana tenure. Indiana played four power conference opponents last year before Big Ten play, going 2-2 with wins over Kansas State and Marquette, two teams that combined to go 24-40 last year.

IPL 2026: Shubman Gill loses cool as Gujarat Titans' costly blunders hand Rajat Patidar two lifelines
NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill looked visibly furious after Rajat Patidar was handed two lifelines during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 clash between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Dharamsala on Tuesday. The dramatic moments unfolded in the 13th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna when Patidar was batting on 20, and the missed opportunities proved costly for GT.On the very first ball of the over, Patidar nearly handed GT a wicket. Prasidh bowled a hard-length delivery on middle stump and the RCB skipper attempted to whip it towards the leg side. However, he closed the bat face too early and ended up getting a massive leading edge. The ball ballooned high over the wicketkeeper’s head as Jos Buttler ran backwards and Jason Holder sprinted across from third man. But both fielders failed to judge it properly and the ball dropped safely between them, allowing Patidar to escape and pick up two runs.Just two balls later, Patidar got another lifeline. Prasidh once again banged the ball in short on a hard length and Patidar went for an aggressive pull shot. He failed to middle it and only managed a top edge towards the deep. Kagiso Rabada charged in from the boundary, got both hands to the ball while sliding forward, but could not hold on to the catch.Gill looked visibly frustrated after the second missed opportunity as GT’s sloppy fielding handed Patidar two crucial reprieves in a high-pressure knockout contest.Patidar went on to score a half century off just 21 balls. Uli’s Eleven: Bayern exec picks his ideal starting XI for Germany at the World Cup
Fc Bayern Präsident Uli Hoeness mit den Bayern Vorstand Karl Hopfner Fussball Bundesliga : Borussia Mönchengladbach - FC Bayern Munchen 3:3 6.11.2010 (Photo by sampics/Corbis via Getty Images) | Corbis via Getty Images One of the common criticisms directed at honorary Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeneß is his motor mouth and his propensity to utter controversial statements. In a surprising move, the 74-year-old then channeled his inner coach and put together his preferred starting XI for Germany in an interview with Der Spiegel (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia):Uli Hoeneß picks his Germany XI for the World Cup from the current squad: 'Raum at right back not ideal but Kimmich should be in midfield – rates Brown – fan of Sané but he's currently out of confidence, Karl not yet ready to start, hence Leweling – fan of Havertz but Woltemade… pic.twitter.com/h62jx7Snea— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) May 23, 2026Uli Hoeneß picks his Germany XI for the World Cup from the current squad: ‘Raum at right back not ideal but Kimmich should be in midfield – rates Brown – fan of Sané but he’s currently out of confidence, Karl not yet ready to start, hence Leweling – fan of Havertz but Woltemade is more of a striker’For reference, here’s the exact lineup that Uli put on the board:BFW AnalysisThis is surprisingly a nicely built squad from the former Bayern player. Knowing current Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, he’ll put the wrong players in the right positions or the right players in the wrong positions. However, I do have a few pointers:Joshua Kimmich is the logical solution for right-back but he doesn’t have the pace or the skillset to play as a proper right-back; he’s slowed down ever since his move to midfield. Then again, Germany doesn’t have decent players who can play right-back, both established and rising stars.Manuel Neuer should never have been called up. His fitness levels aren’t good enough anymore and he often picks up slight niggles during the windows where he is fit. Plus, he stood by his decision before during the initial approaches to drag him out of retirement then relented at the last minute. Sounds exactly like Nagelsmann. Jonas Urbig and/or Noah Atubolu should’ve been named to the squad instead.Jamal Musiala on the wing is the correct move, so too perhaps the move to keep Lennart Karl on the bench for now. Maybe Karl does earn a start if all goes well? Similarly, Tom Bischof should’ve been included.

Efficient Sinner underlines status as favourite
Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz in last year's French Open final [Getty Images]Jannik Sinner underlined why he is the overwhelming favourite to win this year's French Open with an efficient first-round win against French wildcard Clement Tabur. With reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz out injured and 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic nearing the end of his illustrious career, Sinner is the heaviest odds-on favourite at a major since Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros in 2009.The top seed will hope to avoid the same fate as Nadal 17 years ago, when the four-time defending champion fell in the fourth round to Robin Soderling in one of the tournament's biggest-ever upsets. The Italian, 24, began his bid for the career Grand Slam with a 6-1 6-3 6-4 victory against world number 171 Tabur. It was Sinner's first French Open match on Court Philippe Chatrier since his five-set defeat by Alcaraz in last year's final, in which he missed three championship points. The French Open is the only major missing from Sinner's collection and he would become just the 10th man to complete the career Grand Slam if he wins in Paris.Sinner and rival Alcaraz, who became the ninth man to accomplish the feat at January's Australian Open, have won the past nine majors between them.French Open Daily: British men exit in opening roundNo British men reach French Open second roundHow are French Open stars coping with Paris 'heat dome'?Defeating Tabur stretched Sinner's winning streak to 30 matches, which has already yielded clay-court titles in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome. His most recent triumph in Rome meant he completed the full set of nine ATP Masters 1000 titles - known as the 'career Golden Masters'.Sinner dominated the opening two sets, with winners flowing from his racquet while unforced errors were kept to a minimum.Tabur did not have a break point in the match as Sinner wrapped up victory in two hours and eight minutes.Sinner's path to the Coupe des Mousquetaires is already without one major obstacle because Alcaraz is absent - and seeds tumbled in his half of the draw on Tuesday.Sixth seed Daniil Medvedev and ninth seed Alexander Bublik were defeated in the first round, while fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime needed a fifth-set tie-break to beat world number 57 Daniel Altmaier.Auger-Aliassime is the next highest-ranked player in Sinner's half of the draw, but the Canadian has lost his past five matches against the four-time major winner.Up next for world number one Sinner is Argentina's 56th-ranked Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who knocked out Great Britain's Jacob Fearnley on Tuesday.Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone

What Liam Coen wants Trevor Lawrence to accomplish during Jaguars OTAs
OTAs are underway for the Jacksonville Jaguars. So over these next few weeks, what is the most important thing for quarterback Trevor Lawrence to accomplish? In short, if you ask head coach Liam Coen, it's continuing to build that chemistry with all of his wide receivers, but especially Brian Thomas Jr."I think it's the chemistry between he and BT, first and foremost," Coen said. "Working on that chemistry. It was nice to see a great start to that today live and in person. I think those two have worked at it this spring thus far throughout Phase I, Phase II, and then showed up in a nice way today."After recording nearly 1,300 yards in 2024 as a rookie, Thomas Jr. totaled only 707 yards this past season. This included dealing with dropped passes and catching just 49% of the passes thrown his way.Thomas Jr. returning to form would do wonders for the Jaguars' offense. Besides the added production he would bring and the big play potential, his presence can garner the attention of opposing defenders, helping to create opportunities for other Jaguars' pass-catchers.Coen added that he wants to see Lawrence continue to push the ball downfield more, which will also help further cultivate his connection with Thomas Jr. and open up more opportunities for the talented wideout. That said, while building upon the connection with Thomas Jr. will be important for Lawrence, Coen wants to see him continue to do that with Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers as well. "Just getting to that page where he, BT, Parker, Jakobi, specifically, they all really know what each other are doing and what on each concept, the spacing and areas of what those guys can do at a high level. What are some of the weaknesses to be able to throw to each player a little bit differently. Not every guy is going to run the route teh exact same way, and mastering that. Like mastering how each guy runs a route and being able to adjust to some of those things I think is criticial for us moving forward."Led by Lawrence, the Jaguars had one of the top offenses in football during the second half of the 2025 season, averaging nearly 33 points per game down the stretch. With the run game stalled, much of that production came through the air.Rather than implementing a new offensive scheme, as the Jaguars did last offseason, Lawrence and his wideouts can now build upon the foundation that was established last season."It's more refining the finer things of what he can do at a high level," Coen said of Lawrence. "What are the areas that we put on the shelf to improve upon? We we're attacking those now."This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars' Coen wants Trevor Lawrence to continue building chemistry with WRs

Madueke says pressure still on despite Premier League title win
[Getty Images]Winger Noni Madueke says that winning the Premier League title will not affect how he and his Arsenal team-mates prepare for the Champions League final. The Gunners take on Paris-St Germain in Budapest on Saturday as they try to win Europe's elite club competition for the first time. However, Madueke does not accept that the "pressure is off" after winning the first league title in 22 years."No. It's separate. The pressure of the Champions League is there," said the 24-year-old."This is Arsenal Football Club. One of the biggest teams in England. Pressure is always with us."The Champions League is, of course, the big one. So we're looking forward to it."Manager Mikel Arteta has said his squad can now take confidence when attempting to win more trophies after getting over the line following so many near misses. "It is definitely better that we won the Premier League before we go into the Champions League final," Madueke added."I just don't know if we will be thinking about that. We will be thinking about getting another one. I think the Premier League will be irrelevant on that night."It will be full focus on the Champions League, just giving our all and trying to make sure we bring that to the final as well." It would be a historic double if Arsenal are able to overcome the side that knocked them out of the competition last season at the semi-final stage. And the thought of making history is something that motivates Madueke."The Premier League is massive, but the Champions League is so big," he said. "To be able to do that for the first time in the history of the club would be amazing. "And then to celebrate it with all the Arsenal fans would be the cherry on top."

'It starts to feel fishy': Rico Verhoeven opens up on Oleksandr Usyk controversy, appeal process, and the 12th round that wasn't
Rico Verhoeven nearly pulled off an all-time upset against Oleksandr Usyk this past weekend in Egypt. Or at least, that was the general consensus as the fight played out. The former GLORY Kickboxing heavyweight champion shocked the boxing world in only his second appearance in the sport after a decade away. Verhoeven, 37, built early momentum against the sport’s pound-for-pound king, landed heavily as the match continued, and had most viewers scoring the bout in his favor entering the championship rounds — despite the official scorecards reading otherwise.Ultimately, Verhoeven succumbed to a controversial 11th-round stoppage, with the match getting stopped by referee Mark Lyson after the bell following an Usyk blitz. Speaking Tuesday on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Verhoeven admitted he was as surprised as everyone else upon learning the match was scored evenly as it progressed."I was slowing down a bit at the end,” Verhoeven told Uncrowned. “But still, if you look at it, I was keeping like a really good pace for like 10, 11 rounds. So I was excited, I was feeling good. … Me and my team, we're our own biggest critics. If we look back at it, we can say, 'Hmm, maybe we could have taken a round off somewhere in between. Maybe two rounds just moving around, and taking a look and catch a breath for a little bit.’ [But] we were on a roll. We were feeling so good."We were just like surprised by some things that [happened]. For example, there was open scorecards, and after four [rounds], we got the scorecards and we were like, 'Hey, we're even. Hmm, OK.' I felt like I was at least three to one, but OK, we're even, that's fine. Then we get the scorecards again after another four rounds. “[It’s] after Round 8 and still we were even. You're like, ‘Hmm, this — I don't know. It starts to feel fishy because I feel like I'm winning these rounds. I'm working more. I'm getting hit less, and I'm hitting and touching him more than he's hitting me, so maybe you have to push it a little bit more so it's getting looked at through a protective boxing lens.’ Then maybe because I'm an outsider, I have to put in that extra work to be even more convincing. But we saw in the commentating stats, at Round 10, [the commentary team was scoring the fight] like eight to two [for me], instead of going up equal."The bout’s finish was a unique and instantly polarizing one. A knockdown late in the 11th round signaled danger for Verhoeven, allowing Usyk to apply the pressure and dish out punches. But the Dutchman underdog survived and was seemingly still holding his wits about him when referee Lyson waved the action off right after the bell sounded.Verhoeven wholeheartedly believes he could’ve continued for the subsequent final round. "I would have probably took another route. I probably would have moved around and gone back just on the jab, but I was like, 'OK, he's going to start pushing,’ Verhoeven said."If you look back at it, I got [hit by] the uppercut. For the people that know my fights, I've been dropped multiple times in different types of fights — in championship fights. And what I do is I get back up, and no matter how much time is left on the clock, I get back up and I end up winning. So that was the mindset, because I got back up, my mouthpiece was out, they put the mouthpiece back in. But I heard [the bell]. ‘OK, that's good. There's only 10 seconds left. So let me keep my hands up, and let me get to the 12th round.’"I knew he was going to come straight at me. He was coming — I was like pop-pop, I gave him another hook. I believe it was a right hook, but that's not smart. Let's just pop-pop, keep my hands up and wait until the bell goes. When is the bell going to go? When is the referee going to stop this [for the end of the round]? These 10 seconds are taking long right now. And then [Lyson] jumped in. I was like, 'OK, the round is over.' He's like, ‘No, it's over.’ What do you mean it's over? ‘No, no, no, it's over.’ But why? ‘No, no, no, I stopped it.’ I was like, 'What the heck is going on here?' So for me, it was a surprise. Then afterward, we heard that the bell already rang before he jumped in. I don't know."Verhoeven didn’t get a chance to speak with Lyson at any point after the match. His coach Peter Fury did and shared that Lyson claimed not to have heard the bell ring. Verhoeven acknowledged Tuesday that we have to take the referee at his word.Regardless of the outcome, Verhoeven cited other examples of heavyweight matches continuing after seismic knockdowns. He specifically looked at the moments in Uysk’s matches against Tyson Fury and Fury’s epic resurrection against Deontay Wilder.By comparison, Verhoeven’s situation was night and day."I'm keeping my hands up, I'm responsive, I'm not gone or whatever, and they just wave it off. What?” Verhoeven said."To be honest, I deserved — and the fans deserved — to see that 12th round. Whatever the outcome would be. Yeah, but then all the opinions come again: 'Yeah, but you would have never survived that.' There is no 'what if,' you know? … There is no what if. So, stop the 'what ifs.' Let's just focus on the things that happened and how we judge that and how we talk about it, and let's continue from that."After the match, Verhoeven spoke about appealing the match result in an attempt to overturn things. Since that’s a rarity in all of combat sports, Verhoeven doesn’t expect anything to change, but more so just wants an admittance of wrongdoing. An apology would be nice, he said.Rico Verhoeven nearly pulled off one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.KHALED DESOUKI via Getty Images"It was viewed through a very boxing protective lens, and that is maybe something that we can talk about in general,” Verhoeven said. “That's also one of the reasons, like I said, why we appealed it, and all they can say is like, 'Hey Rico, we apologize. We should have done better. We made a mistake.' That's all you can ask for."You can sit here, be angry and waste all your energy on that, but it's not going to change anything. It's not going to change the outcome. It's not going to do anything. It's not going to make me feel better. It is what it is, actually."Verhoeven is still awaiting the review of his appeal, but isn’t holding his breath for good news. He’s ready to move on and keep the ball rolling on the heels of his valiant effort.Ideally, Verhoeven wants to return an Usyk rematch. He’s a combat sports free agent after signing just a one-match deal for Saturday’s bout, but ultra-premature conversations have already begun for another fight with Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season, he revealed. That leaves every door of opportunity wide open. But after such a strong showing in boxing, he sees the sport he conquered — kickboxing — in the rear-view."One hundred perfect, I would love that [Usyk rematch]. But like I said, it's not up to me," Verhoeven said.“There's so many interests from all kinds of ways and all kinds of possibilities and all kinds of people that are approaching us with everything. Of course, [Alalshikh] gave me the opportunity first, so that's where we're looking at now. Let's see what the future holds for us."I'm excited about the rematch. It's going to get even more eyeballs than it did this time."
