Victor Wembanyama skips media availability following Spurs’ Game 5 loss to Thunder
Victor Wembanyama declined to speak with reporters following San Antonio’s 127-114 loss to the OKC Thunder in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.Tuesday marked the first time this postseason the Spurs superstar skipped postgame media availability after playing. It was a rough night for the third-year All-Star, who finished with 20 points and six rebounds on 4-of-15 shooting from the field.OKC emphasized physicality with Wembanyama early in Game 5, using several defenders to help push him out the paint and live on the perimeter. Only six of Wembanyama’s 15 shot attempts came near the restricted area, where he converted just three. His outside rhythm never arrived either, missing all five of his 3-point attempts despite going a perfect 12-for-12 at the free-throw line.REPORT CARD: Jared McCain's move into Thunder starting lineup sets tone for Game 5 win over SpursSpurs coach Mitch Johnson made it clear afterward that San Antonio needs a far more assertive version of its franchise star in Game 6."We're gonna need to (get him going)," Johnson said. "He's got to take more than 15 shots, even with the free throws. He's going to have to score more than 20 points for sure. OKC did a good job, and we've got to do a better job."Wembanyama delivered a historic masterpiece with 41 points and 24 rebounds on just 25 shot attempts to stun the Thunder on the road in Game 1. He followed that up with another takeover performance in Game 4, pouring in 33 points on 22 shots to help even the series. But now, with San Antonio trailing 3-2 and facing postseason elimination for the first time since 2019, the pressure surrounding Wembanyama has only intensified. The Spurs know their path back to OKC for a winner-take-all Game 7 likely begins with their superstar rediscovering his aggression."They send so many bodies towards (Victor), it's hard at times," Spurs guard Stephon Castle said. "I think he just wants to make the right play and wants to win, so it's tough. He's our best player. So, yeah, we need him to be aggressive. I feel like that him being aggressive opens up shots for other guys as well."Jordan Davis covers high school sports for The Oklahoman. Have a story idea for Jordan? Josh Jacobs arrest opens the door for sneaky Steelers trade
On Tuesday, NFL reporters broke the news that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested on multiple charges, including battery/domestic abuse, criminal damage to property/domestic abuse, disorderly conduct/domestic abuse, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim. He was booked into the Brown County Jail. This arrest certainly puts Jacobs' status with the Packers into Jeopardy and could create a need for Green Bay at running back. This is where the Pittsburgh Steelers come in. Our first instinct is to look at second-year running back Kaleb Johnson as an option. His best fit is in a scheme like the one the Packers run and would be in line for significant reps if he keeps up his strong offseason. But if head coach Mike McCarthy is committed to seeing what he has with Johnson, Jaylen Warren could be a trade option. Is this one a long shot? For sure but we've been consistent that we expect Rico Dowdle to be the workhorse back this season, as McCarthy doesn't lean into running back by committee situations. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Josh Jacobs arrest opens the door for sneaky Steelers trade

Thunder's Alex Caruso making NBA history as OKC tries to close out Spurs
Thunder's Alex Caruso making NBA history as OKC tries to close out Spurs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Alex Caruso knows what time it is.It's hard to explain what the Oklahoma City Thunder backup guard is doing right now other than to simply shrug, note that it's the playoffs and recognize that this is what Caruso does.Caruso once became one of LeBron James' favorite teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers because of his knack for making winning plays when it really mattered.A couple of teams later, Caruso is doing the same for the Thunder. He's just adding blistering 3-point shooting to the mix this time around.Right now, Caruso has had the biggest leap from regular season 3-point percentage to postseason 3-point percentage of any player in NBA history:Alex Caruso is shooting 47.7% from three this postseason, 18.4% higher than he did in the regular season (29.3%).That's on pace to be the biggest jump in 3P% from the regular season to the playoffs in NBA history (min. 50 attempts in both).— Keerthika Uthayakumar (@keerthikau) May 27, 2026That could obviously still swing back in the other direction, because OKC has more basketball to play. The Thunder lead the Spurs in the Western Conference Final by a 3-2 series margin, and then would conceptually have the NBA Finals, too.But right now, Caruso is a big reason the Thunder are in position to move on. He just keeps hitting shots, proving a red-hot Game 1 of this series wasn't a fluke by continuing to hit shots the whole way.Caruso isn't just scoring. He's still doing his usual defensive masterwork, along with helping keep the offense in a good rhythm.Hitting these shots, though, makes it easier to keep him on the floor in any lineup construction, and it prevents the Spurs from sagging off him to help elsewhere. It's exactly what the Thunder have needed out of Caruso, and that's pretty much what he does -- delivering the right performance at the right time.

Report: Liverpool fighting to keep star at Anfield
Report: Liverpool fighting to keep star at AnfieldAlisson Set for Liverpool Stay Despite Juventus InterestLiverpool are preparing for another summer of uncertainty, yet one constant may remain untouched. While Juventus continue to circle around Alisson Becker, there is growing confidence on Merseyside that the Brazilian goalkeeper will stay put for at least another season. The noise around Liverpool has intensified in recent weeks. Questions over departures, long-term planning and Arne Slot’s rebuild have become part of the daily conversation. Yet inside the club there remains a determination to retain players capable of carrying authority through periods of transition. Alisson sits near the very top of that list. The 33-year-old has been linked with Juventus as the Italian giants search for experience and leadership between the posts. Reports in Italy suggested serious interest, particularly with Liverpool entering the final stretch of the goalkeeper’s current contract. Even so, the mood around the situation appears to have shifted.Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano offered an important update, explaining that Liverpool are keen for Alisson to remain at the club for the upcoming campaign. Romano added that the goalkeeper himself is reluctant to damage the relationship he has built with Liverpool supporters and staff during eight seasons at Anfield. That matters. Alisson has never carried himself like a player eager to engineer exits or create distractions. His standing within the dressing room remains immense and Liverpool know replacing a goalkeeper of his stature is rarely straightforward.Photo IMAGOJuventus Move Faces Emotional BarrierJuventus can offer prestige, history and another chapter in European football, but Liverpool still hold emotional leverage in this story.Alisson arrived in 2018 and transformed Liverpool almost immediately. His calmness under pressure, command of the penalty area and ability in possession altered the way Liverpool defended under pressure. There have been dramatic saves, title-winning moments and even a famous headed goal that remains etched into Premier League history.More than that, he became symbolic of Liverpool’s rise back towards Europe’s elite. Players with that connection do not leave easily.According to Romano, the interest from Juventus is genuine and appreciated by the Brazilian international. However, there is also an understanding that his relationship with Liverpool supporters carries weight in the decision-making process. In many ways, this feels like a battle between opportunity and legacy.Juventus could offer a fresh challenge in Serie A. Liverpool, meanwhile, still offer elite competition, Champions League football and a club where Alisson is regarded as one of the defining signings of the modern era.The goalkeeper is believed to be seriously considering his options, yet Liverpool’s desire to keep him appears strong and increasingly influential.Slot Relies on Stability During Summer TransitionArne Slot’s first months in charge have already delivered enough turbulence to remind supporters that succession planning is rarely smooth at elite clubs. Liverpool are balancing recruitment, tactical evolution and dressing-room continuity all at once. That makes Alisson even more important. When uncertainty builds around senior players, clubs often cling harder to the individuals capable of bringing calm. Alisson does exactly that. Even during difficult periods last season, he remained one of Liverpool’s most dependable performers. His influence stretches beyond shot-stopping. Defenders trust him. Younger players lean on him. Coaches value his tactical intelligence and composure in possession.Liverpool are also aware that replacing world-class goalkeepers in today’s market comes with huge financial risk. There are talented options across Europe, but very few possess Alisson’s combination of experience, leadership and reliability under pressure.Keeping him for another season could buy Liverpool valuable time while Slot reshapes the squad around his own ideas.Romano Update Offers Liverpool Fresh EncouragementRomano’s latest update will provide encouragement for Liverpool supporters concerned about another major departure this summer. He explained that Liverpool have made their intentions clear and want Alisson to stay for the coming season. Romano also indicated that while Juventus remain interested, the emotional ties between player and club could ultimately prove decisive. For now, the expectation is that Alisson remains a Liverpool player when the new campaign begins. That would represent a significant boost for Slot. In periods of change, elite clubs need figures capable of steadying the atmosphere. Liverpool still see Alisson as one of those figures.Juventus may continue monitoring the situation, but Liverpool are fighting hard to keep one of the finest goalkeepers in world football exactly where he is.

Manchester City star will be given chance under Maresca
Manchester City star will be given chance under MarescaJack Grealish Set for Manchester City Reprieve Under Enzo MarescaJack Grealish’s Manchester City future appeared settled only a few months ago. A permanent departure from the Etihad looked increasingly inevitable after a difficult relationship with Pep Guardiola and an injury interrupted loan spell at Everton. Yet according to Mirror, incoming City boss Enzo Maresca could now hand the England international a route back into the first team picture. The change in managerial direction at Manchester City may prove significant for several players, but perhaps none more than Grealish. After spending much of the previous campaign out of favour, the winger now faces an opportunity to reset his standing at the club where he once played a central role in a historic treble winning side.Photo IMAGOMaresca Plans Immediate TalksMaresca is expected to succeed Guardiola this summer following the Spaniard’s departure after a decade in charge. One of the Italian coach’s first priorities will reportedly involve discussions with Grealish over his future.“It’s understood that if Maresca replaces Guardiola, the Italian believes Grealish can be part of the team’s future again under him.”Photo IMAGOThat represents a notable shift in direction. Grealish had already begun considering a permanent move away from City after feeling increasingly marginalised under Guardiola during the latter stages of last season. His omission from the Club World Cup squad only reinforced the sense that his time at the club was nearing an end.Everton Spell Ends in FrustrationEverton offered Grealish a chance to rebuild momentum and rediscover confidence. There were encouraging moments during his loan spell, particularly early in the campaign when his creativity and ball carrying ability brought balance to Everton’s attack.Photo IMAGOHowever, a stress fracture suffered in January ultimately halted his progress and ruled him out of this summer’s World Cup. The setback arrived at a damaging moment, both personally and professionally, as Grealish had started to regain rhythm after a turbulent period.Despite the injury disappointment, Everton remain interested in signing him permanently. Yet City still retain considerable influence over the situation, especially with Grealish entering the final 12 months of his contract next month.Etihad Return Could Change NarrativeUnless instructed otherwise, Grealish is expected to report back for pre season training in July ahead of City’s summer tour of the Far East. Sources close to the player suggest he has maintained strong relationships within the squad, particularly with Erling Haaland. There remains a belief internally that Grealish still possesses qualities capable of thriving in a possession dominant system. Maresca’s tactical approach may ultimately suit him far better than the increasingly rigid demands placed upon him during the latter stages of Guardiola’s reign. Our View – EPL Index AnalysisThere is understandable curiosity surrounding the possibility of Jack Grealish receiving another opportunity at the Etihad. Many City fans still remember the player who delivered immense performances during the treble season, particularly in high pressure Champions League matches where his control and composure proved invaluable.Supporters also recognise that confidence has always shaped Grealish’s game. Under Guardiola, especially towards the end, he often appeared hesitant and restricted rather than expressive. A managerial change could remove that psychological burden and allow him to play with greater freedom again. There is also a practical argument for retaining him. City are entering a transitional period following Guardiola’s exit, and keeping experienced players who understand the demands of elite competition carries importance. Grealish knows the dressing room, understands the standards and maintains strong relationships with senior figures in the squad.Of course, fans will still expect consistent performances if he stays. Sentiment alone will not secure his future. But many City supporters would welcome the idea of Maresca giving Grealish a clean slate before making any final decision on his long term role at the club.

Biggest comeback wins in NFL history
There is something uniquely unforgettable about an NFL comeback. One moment, a game feels completely over, the crowd is already celebrating, and fans are mentally moving on to next week. Then suddenly, momentum shifts. A big play sparks belief, the sideline comes alive, and what once looked impossible starts turning into one of those legendary football moments replayed for decades. That emotional swing is what makes comeback victories some of the most iconic games in NFL history.FOX Sports highlighted some of the biggest comeback wins the league has ever seen, and the list is filled with games that still carry historic significance today. From shocking playoff collapses to overtime thrillers, these games proved that no lead is ever truly safe in the NFL. They also showcased some unforgettable performances from quarterbacks, coaches, and entire teams that simply refused to quit despite overwhelming odds.RELATED: Most passing touchdowns in the last 5 seasonsWhat makes these comebacks even more remarkable is the pressure surrounding them. Several happened in postseason games where one mistake could end a season, while others completely changed the legacy of franchises and players involved. The emotional resilience required to erase deficits of 27, 28, or even 33 points is almost impossible to replicate consistently in professional football. These games became defining moments not just because of the score, but because of how dramatically they unfolded.Years later, fans still remember exactly where they were when these rallies happened. Whether it was Kirk Cousins leading Minnesota back from 33 down, Frank Reich engineering “The Comeback” in Buffalo, or Jacksonville stunning the Chargers in the playoffs, these games remain proof that in the NFL, belief can change everything in a matter of minutes.Minnesota Vikings def. Credit: Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports*Deficit overcome: 33 points*Colts led 33-0 in the third quarterThe Vikings authored the largest comeback in NFL history after trailing 33-0 at halftime against Indianapolis. Minnesota looked completely overwhelmed early, but Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson helped ignite one of the most dramatic second-half rallies the league has ever seen. The Vikings scored 39 points after halftime and eventually won in overtime after Greg Joseph drilled the game-winning field goal. What made the comeback even more shocking was how dominant Indianapolis looked early in the game. The Colts controlled all three phases and appeared on their way to an easy victory before Minnesota’s offense suddenly exploded. Cousins threw for 460 yards and four touchdowns, while the Vikings defense forced critical stops late in the game. The victory also clinched the NFC North for Minnesota and instantly became one of the defining moments of the 2022 NFL season.Buffalo Bills def. Backup quarterback Frank Reich replaced injured starter Jim Kelly and helped orchestrate an unbelievable turnaround after the Bills trailed 35-3 early in the second half. Buffalo scored five straight touchdowns before eventually winning in overtime on a Steve Christie field goal.Andre Reed became the star of the comeback with three consecutive touchdown receptions, while Buffalo’s defense delivered timely stops after being shredded early by Warren Moon and the Oilers offense. The game shattered the belief that a 30-point lead was insurmountable in the NFL playoffs. Even decades later, this game is still considered the greatest postseason comeback ever because of the stakes, atmosphere, and sheer improbability of the rally.Indianapolis Colts def. Indianapolis looked finished midway through the third quarter before Luck completely took over the game with his aggressive downfield passing and relentless energy. The Colts scored 35 second-half points and capped the comeback with a late touchdown strike to T.Y. Hilton. Luck threw for 443 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns in one of the greatest playoff performances by a young quarterback. The game also featured one of the most memorable moments of the comeback when Luck recovered a Donald Brown fumble and dove into the end zone himself for a touchdown. Kansas City’s defense simply could not slow Indianapolis once momentum shifted, turning a comfortable lead into a heartbreaking collapse.RELATED: NFL teams with the toughest 17-game scheduleSan Francisco 49ers def. Credit: Malcolm Emmons-USA TODAY Sports*Deficit overcome: 28 points*Saints led 35-7 in the third quarterLong before the 49ers became an NFL dynasty, San Francisco produced one of the league’s earliest historic comebacks against New Orleans. Joe Montana led the charge as the 49ers erased a 28-point deficit and eventually forced overtime after an incredible second-half rally. Ray Wersching’s game-winning kick sealed the victory and cemented the game as one of the franchise’s foundational moments. The comeback became especially significant because it helped showcase Montana’s poise and leadership before the championship years truly began. San Francisco’s offense suddenly found rhythm after struggling badly for most of the game, while the Saints collapsed under mounting pressure late. Although it happened decades ago, the game remains one of the most important comeback wins in 49ers history.Jacksonville Jaguars def. Los Angeles Chargers, 31-30 (2022 Playoffs)Jacksonville Jaguars place kicker Riley Patterson (10) jumps into the arms of long snapper Ross Matiscik (46) after he kicked the game-winning field goal against the Chargers. The Jacksonville Jaguars hosted the Los Angeles Chargers in their first-round playoff game Saturday, January 14, 2023, at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. Credit: © Bob Self/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK*Deficit overcome: 27 points*Chargers led 27-0 in the second quarterThe Jaguars pulled off one of the most stunning playoff turnarounds in recent memory after Trevor Lawrence threw four interceptions in the first half against the Chargers. Jacksonville looked completely outmatched early, but Lawrence responded with remarkable composure and led four second-half touchdown drives to bring the Jaguars back into the game. Riley Patterson’s walk-off field goal completed the dramatic victory. What made the comeback even more impressive was the emotional resilience shown by Lawrence after such a disastrous start. Rather than unraveling, Jacksonville’s offense became more aggressive and confident as the game progressed. The collapse also intensified criticism surrounding the Chargers’ inability to protect large leads, while the Jaguars announced themselves as one of the NFL’s rising teams under Doug Pederson.

Travis Kelce buys minority ownership stake in Cleveland Guardians
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is becoming a minority owner of one of the Cleveland sports franchises he grew up following as a rabid fan in Northeast Ohio.A Cleveland Heights native and the fiance of music superstar Taylor Swift, Kelce told ESPN he is purchasing a minority stake in the Guardians. The ESPN report, published on Wednesday, May 27, doesn't include financial terms of Kelce's investment, and the Guardians have yet to announce the deal."I have so much love for this city," Kelce told ESPN Senior MLB Insider Jeff Passan. "I say it all the time: I'm just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic. Cleveland Heights is such a diverse and dynamic place. Every friend, neighbor, teacher and teammate — they all made me the man I am today. It just fueled such a deep appreciation for life and community and service. That mentality of "Cleveland against the world" runs deep."I've been lucky enough to have a front-row seat to good ownership in my career, and I know the best teams prioritize culture. Everyone is there to play their role, and right now, I'm here to observe and learn and really to support the team and the city when and where I can."More on Travis Kelce: Celebrities sit courtside at Cavs-Knicks game in ClevelandMore Cleveland baseball: Travis Kelce spikes ball on 'dream come true' first pitch before Guardians' home openerAs a kid, Kelce played baseball and cheered for Cleveland's popular MLB teams of the 1990s.“I just had so many countless memories of screaming out my back door during those playoff runs and all the big-time home run moments,” Kelce said in 2023, when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Guardians' home opener at Progressive Field.Kelce, 36, was raised as a Browns and Cavaliers fan, too.Although he has tormented the Browns as a future Pro Football Hall of Fame player, Kelce still supports the Cavs. He and Swift attended Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 23 before the Cavs were swept by the New York Knicks two days later. It's not unusual for professional athletes to become minority investors in teams. Thunder's championship response vs Spurs in Game 5 puts OKC one win from NBA Finals return
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander strode into the postgame interview room looking dapper as always. Brown suede jacket. Red tank top. Black leather pants. But he arrived without one item that has become routine with his fits: shades.Even though he arrived at Paycom Center on Tuesday with sunglasses, doing the player walk with an oval black pair, they were gone after Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.Eyes wide open?Sure felt that way.Thunder 127, Spurs 114.More: Victor Wembanyama skips media availability following Spurs’ Game 5 loss to ThunderAfter a clunker of a performance Sunday in San Antonio, the Thunder had a clear objective: figure out how to turn things around and win the next game at home or face the supremely difficult task of going to San Antonio and winning on Thursday, then returning home and doing it again on Sunday.Instead, Oklahoma City has a 3-2 lead in the series and is one win away from returning to the NBA Finals. The Thunder’s response Tuesday night was a championship response, led by SGA himself.“A series, especially against a good team, is like a chess match,” he said. “It can go back and forth with adjustments and game plans and switching to things and trying new things. “They obviously punched us really good in Game 4, but we got better from the team that played Game 4 to Game 5.”There were lots of reasons for that. The defense on Victor Wembanyama clamped down again. Alex Caruso and Jared McCain got going again. Chet Holmgren got aggressive on the offensive end. But as much as anything, Gilgeous-Alexander played like one of the best players on the planet. He scored 32 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the floor and 16-of-17 shooting from the free-throw line. Add in nine assists, two steals and one blocked shot, and it stands as his best game of the series. Not only because of the numbers but also because of the stakes. REPORT CARD: Jared McCain's move into Thunder starting lineup sets tone for Game 5 win over SpursThe Thunder had to be great to bounce back from the disappointment of Game 4, and it had to figure out how to do that without Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell, both playmakers still out with injuries. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault trusted his team would maneuver through all of that.“I know that when we don’t play well, we look in the mirror,” he said. “We don’t make excuses. We don’t point fingers. And usually that’s the best way to get yourself into the next opportunity.”No Thunder embodies that more than Gilgeous-Alexander. He came back to OKC after Game 4 and went to work figuring out what he needed to do better. Where could he tweak? Was there something he might attack? Or maybe something he needed to stay away from? The thing is, that’s what he does before any game.“One of the things about him is he’s so consistent,” Daigneault said. “His temperament’s the same all the time. His approach is the same all the time. His floor game is the same all the time. “That’s one of the things that really is a superpower of his, and I think it gives the team tremendous confidence.”Not that there weren’t bumps along the way on Tuesday. Frankly, the first eight minutes of the game for SGA were a bit like a drive down certain stretches of Lake Hefner Parkway — so many bumps you forget what smooth looks like.He committed three turnovers while hitting only one shot.During his postgame on-court interview, SGA called it one of the worst starts to a game of his career, then later said if there had been five of him on the court to start the game, “we would have been down 20 after the first quarter.”He chuckled.“I probably should never start like that again. It’d give us a better chance to win a ballgame.”TAKEAWAYS: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder stifle Spurs for crucial Game 5 winThe thing is, his response to that rough start may well have propelled the Thunder. Yes, it had to sustain his struggles, and without big contributions from Chet Holmgren and Co., OKC would’ve been in a huge hole. But his calm in those moments helped calm everyone else.“He obviously didn’t have his fastball early, but he stays so present,” Daigneault said. “His confidence never wavers. He really has great trust in himself, and that was on display tonight.”And eventually, SGA stopped turning the ball over, started finding his spots in the midrange and hitting some shots, and the Thunder hit the accelerator from there. This is a bunch that knows what to do when straits are dire.It did it repeatedly last season in the playoffs.“I think the thing you take from those experiences is just the mental part of it,” Hartenstein said. “Not getting too high. Not getting too low. Just going in there knowing you have to come with certain sense of urgency.”Urgent but controlled. That was the Thunder in Game 5, and it flowed from the MVP.“His consistency of approach and of tone has a lot to do with our ability to stay very steady,” Daigneault said, “even if things are unsteady outside of our team.”Still, it felt like Gilgeous-Alexander recognized that this night was different. When he stood at the end of his press conference and left the room, he did so not in a pair of Shai shoes as has been his way. He wore black work boots instead. No time to be selling.Time to get to work.Jenni Carlson: Jenni can be reached at jcarlson@oklahoman.com. Texas A&M should pursue LSU sophomore transfer pitcher
Texas A&M ended the regular season with 39 wins and 18 victories in SEC play, as second-year coach Michael Earley led his veteran team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since taking over the program, which is quite the relief for the Aggie fanbase after A&M missed the postseason last season.Still, the Aggies' pitching rotation has struggled after losing Cade McCoy and Josh Stewart, while starters Shane Sdao and Weston Moss have been streaky at best, especially compared to sophomore Aiden Sims, who quickly became the program's ace after several impressive starts and finished 8-1 on the year. Before the Aggies host Lamar in the College Station Regional on Friday afternoon, one of the more intriguing SEC pitchers has entered the transfer portal. After LSU officially missed the postseason after winning the National Championship last season, highly similar to the Aggies missing the tournament after making the championship game, sophomore RHP Mavrick Rizy is now on the market.A Massachusetts native, Rizy is 6'9" and made 20 appearances last season, finishing with an above-average 4.22 ERA and 28 strikeouts, and made a combined 48 relief appearances during his two seasons with the Tigers. One of the top recruits before committing to LSU, could the Aggies be in play? Texas A&M expects to return star reliever Clayton Freshcorn next season, while Rizy has starting potential similar to Weston Moss, elevating to a starting role after starring as a middle reliever in 2025. Staying in the SEC is likely preferred, especially if Rizy is looking to continue playing in big games with scouting interest. Mavrick Rizy just posted this on his instagram. Appears he’s leaving the program after his second season. #LSUpic.twitter.com/HBWYXgVO0Z— John Eads WAFB-TV (@JohnEadsWAFB) May 26, 2026Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. Notre Dame continues to be a brand everyone loves to hate
What must come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Notre Dame football has once again shown up in a list of most hated teams. The Irish have long been one of the sport's most polarizing programs, arguably drawing criticism largely because of it's relevance since the inception of the sport. National reach, a massive fan base, and wall-to-wall visibility because of the NBC TV deal has created a perception among rival fanbases that the Irish receive attention and benefit of the doubt that they do not deserve. The program's independent status tends to be the lightning rod that follows Notre Dame around in every conversation. While most of the sport seems to be consolidating into super-conferences, Notre Dame remains a football independent with its own media and scheduling autonomy, which enrages others despite the reality that it comes from a place of envy. While the hatred for the program has always been consistent, there has been a spike recently due to decisions the Irish have made. After Notre Dame was left out of the 2025 College Football Playoff, they chose to not play a postseason game by withdrawing from the bowl selection process entirely. The decision drew the ire of many, as the perception was a blue-blood program opting out was disrespectful towards the bowl system and came off as entitled. 5 villagers missing in a flooded Laos cave for more than a week have been found alive, rescuers say
In this image released by Metta Tham Rescue Kalasin, rescuers try to reach people who have been trapped in a cave in Xaisomboun province, Laos, Tuesday, May 26, 2026. (Metta Tham Rescue Kalasin via AP)2026-05-27T10:21:59Z BANGKOK (AP) — Five villagers stuck in a flooded cave in central Laos for more than a week were found alive, rescuers said Wednesday, but two others are missing. The villagers entered the cave in Xaisomboun province on May 19, but heavy rain triggered flash flooding that blocked the exit and trapped seven people, according to Lao and Thai rescue teams involved in the operation.Bounkham Luanglath of the Lao organization Rescue Volunteer for People, which has been working closely with local authorities in the rescue efforts, told The Associated Press that five people were found safe and alive but two more are still missing, and the search for them will continue.“I’m still shaking. Our team made it happen,” he said in a voice message.A video posted by a Thai rescue group involved in the mission appeared to show the moment divers emerged from the water and discovered the trapped villagers. In the footage, the villagers, each wearing a headlamp, were sitting on a rock surrounded by floodwater. Other videos showed rescuers inside and outside the cave cheering, jumping around and hugging each other in joy after the discovery. Rescue workers from neighboring Thailand arrived at the site over the weekend. Those helping out include divers from several nations who took part in the complicated 2018 rescue in northern Thailand of 12 schoolboys and their soccer coach who were trapped for more than two weeks in a cave before being safely extricated. Read More The cave is located in a rugged, remote area in Xaisomboun province’s Longcheng district, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the capital, Vientiane. Rescuers at the scene have detailed on social media the challenging mountainous terrain and heavy rain that has hampered their work. Videos shared online by Thai rescuers showed that reaching the cave’s entrance requires a steep hike on foot of roughly 4 kilometers (2.5 miles). The entrance is also steep and rocky, and barely wide enough for a single person at a time to climb through. There has been no official confirmation on why the villagers went into the cave. However, Bounkham has said that the cave was frequented by local residents looking for gold, even though authorities had repeatedly warned them against entering the cave because of safety concerns.

5 biggest surprises of the 2025–26 NBA season so far
Every NBA season starts with a set of assumptions. Certain teams are supposed to be good. Certain players are supposed to take a step forward. The standings, when they finally arrive, are mostly meant to confirm what everyone already believed going into October. The 2025–26 season had other ideas. Within the first two weeks, there were 19 forty-point games leaguewide; a number that made people wonder whether scoring had permanently broken defense, or whether defense had simply given up. Players who were penciled in as role contributors were suddenly putting up All-Star numbers. A team with no business competing at the top of the conference was doing exactly that. A rookie showed up and immediately looked like he had been in the league for years. And a role player in Los Angeles spent the opening week looking like the best player on the planet.MORE: The top 10 most dominant NBA playoff runs by a single playerThese are not small surprises. They are the stories that made analysts rewrite their preseason takes, and fans reconsider everything they thought they knew about this season. Here are the five biggest.5. The Detroit Pistons going 60–22Detroit finishing with a 60-win season was one of the most genuinely shocking team stories in the league. Nobody outside the organisation predicted it, and the fact that Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren both earned All-NBA recognition in the same season made it clear this was not a fluke built on a soft schedule. The Pistons went from the worst record in NBA history just two seasons ago to one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, and the speed of that turnaround had no real precedent in modern basketball.4. VJ Edgecombe arriving as a fully formed playerEdgecombe averaged 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game as a rookie on 47 percent shooting and 44 percent from three. Those are not numbers from a player finding his feet. Those are numbers from a player who was never lost in the first place. The 76ers expected him to contribute eventually. Not immediately, not like this, and not to the point where he was a Rookie of the Year frontrunner from the opening month.3. The Spurs without De’Aaron FoxSan Antonio lost Fox to injury before the season started and was supposed to struggle. Instead, they played like one of the better teams in the Western Conference. Wembanyama showed he could carry a team, Castle stepped into a bigger role without blinking, and the Spurs quietly became one of the most compelling stories in the league. The surprise was not that they were good. It was how good they were when every expectation pointed the other way.2. Austin Reeves’ opening weekReeves averaged 35.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists in the first week of the season on 58 percent shooting from the field. It looked like a typo. It was not. He was not going to keep that up for 82 games, and he did not need to. What those seven days proved about his development and his importance to the Lakers reshaped how the rest of the league saw him for the rest of the year.1. The League-wide scoring explosionNineteen forty-point games in the first two weeks. Aaron Gordon is posting 50. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped a career-high 55 with 26 free throw attempts in a single game. The 2025–26 season opened with scoring numbers the modern NBA had never seen, and the question of whether offense had permanently outpaced defense dominated the first month of the year. It made the opening weeks among the most entertaining basketball in recent memory, and the conversation it sparked about the state of the game has not yet stopped.

NFL insider: Tennessee Titans' front office now set up like the Eagles'
Most of the focus this offseason surrounding the Tennessee Titans has been on the roster and the work general manager Mike Borgonzi and the front office have done to rebuild the struggling franchise. Unfortunately, because of that focus, the work the organization and Borgonzi have done to retool the front office has flown under the radar.Aside from the rumbles on social media (and in some media outlets), the biggest story of the offseason regarding the front office was Chad Brinker stepping down, which is somewhat understandable. But after some speculated that the inevitable move to replace Brinker would be tainted by nepotism, the Titans didn’t follow that path and instead hired longtime league official Dave Gardi as his replacement. After that, the story died down, and the value of their hire was somewhat overlooked. That’s not the case with NFL Insider Albert Breer, who applauds the Titans in his weekly notebook segment.Good get by the Titans in landing Dave Gardi to oversee the operations side for the team. To me, this creates a setup like the old Eagles’ setup, where Andrew Berry and Joe Douglas were reporting to Howie Roseman before those two got the Browns and Jets GM jobs. In this case, Gardi would be Berry, and assistant GM Dave Ziegler would be Douglas.Gardi has over 20 years of NFL experience and spent the past two seasons at the team level with the Washington Commanders. He is known as a rules expert, making him a valuable asset for Borgonzi as he continues to rebuild the Titans organization from the ground up.Now, with Gardi in place, Tennessee can focus on signing Keldric Faulk, the final unsigned draft choice from their last class. This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: NFL insider: Tennessee Titans' front office now set up like the Eagles'

Thunder needed more from Chet Holmgren vs Spurs. OKC got it in Game 5
Asked after a Game 4 loss what he could do to get Chet Holmgren more involved offensively, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander pondered the question for the better part of 10 seconds. Only a “hmmm,” bisected SGA’s silence. The MVP rubbed his chin for good measure, turning the moment into a full-on meme. Whatever SGA said was lost in how long he took to say it. The hellscape that is social media clowned Holmgren for rendering his MVP teammate speechless (in a bad way), not knowing that SGA is prone to long pauses in press conferences. That he sometimes thinks about a question before answering. While that part of the Chet discourse was taken out of context, the essence of the criticism was fair. The Thunder needed more from its All-NBA center. It needed him to not cower against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. To not disappear offensively. To give something, anything, on that end of the floor. Holmgren attacked from the opening bell in the Thunder’s 127-114 Game 5 win against the Spurs. He shot 4 of 4 in the opening frame, scoring the Thunder’s first two baskets on a pair of midrange jumpers over Devin Vassell. CARLSON: Thunder's championship response vs Spurs in Game 5 puts OKC one win from NBA Finals returnThose shots had been there all series for Holmgren. He just needed to hunt them. And he needs to keep hunting him. Because as strong as he started, Holmgren’s aggression faded. He shot 2 of 5 over the final three quarters. But hey, it was a step. “He was on the gas early,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. SGA only paused for a second or two before praising Holmgren on Tuesday night. “He was really good. Chet has all the tools, and everybody in our building and the league knows that,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “As a player you’re going to go through ups and downs, but I don’t ever worry about Chet. I know how much he loves the game, how much he cares and how much he works. It’s too much to ask Holmgren to fill in the playmaking voids left by Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell — not all skilled 7-footers are Kevin Durant — but Holmgren can catch, dribble, spin and shoot over the top of any Spur not named Wembanyama. And while tough twos aren’t a desirable shot in the regular season, waiting for the right look against this Spurs defense means you’re never going to shoot. Holmgren averaged 11.3 points in Games 1 through 4 — his lowest scoring average in nine playoff series. Holmgren’s 16 points in Game 5 marked his series high. As did his 11 rebounds. All six of his baskets came from inside the arc. More: Victor Wembanyama skips media availability following Spurs’ Game 5 loss to Thunder“I definitely feel like there’s been times or looks that I wasn’t able to take advantage of in this series, and tonight I was, and I’ve gotta try to keep that going,” Holmgren said. After playing 41 minutes in the double-overtime series opener, Holmgren’s minutes trended south, from 27 in Game 2, to 28 in Game 3, to 26 in Game 4. Holmgren wasn’t in the Thunder’s closing lineup Tuesday — it was Isaiah Hartenstein as the lone big — but Holmgren was back up to 30 minutes. “These long playoff runs, nobody’s staying up here every single game,” said Daigneault, raising his arm. The Thunder’s frontline duo of Holmgren and Hartenstein combined for 28 points and 26 rebounds. They shot 12 of 17. Hartenstein was a plus-24 (Holmgren was a minus-one, but it felt better than that). The Chet/Wemby rivalry was a fun pre-series storyline, but it hasn’t really borne out. Rarely have they matched up against one another. And for as great as Holmgren is (one of the 15 best players in the NBA this season), Wembanyama is a one of one. The Thunder doesn’t need Holmgren to outplay Wembanyama, but it does need something from Holmgren offensively in this matchup. More than it got from him against the Spurs in the regular season. More than Holmgren gave in the first four games of the Western Conference finals. But Game 5 Holmgren? That’s what OKC needs more of if it’s to raise a second banner. “I’ll bet on Chet 10 times out of 10,” SGA said, “and he proved why I would bet on him tonight.” Joe Mussatto is a sports columnist for The Oklahoman. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a threat for SRH? Pat Cummins reveals 'Plan B and C' ahead of IPL Eliminator
New Chandigarh is set for a blockbuster IPL 2026 Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, and one name is dominating the build-up, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Ahead of the high-stakes clash, SRH captain Pat Cummins admitted his side will have multiple bowling plans ready for the teenage sensation. The 15-year-old opener has taken IPL 2026 by storm for Rajasthan Royals, redefining fearless batting at an incredibly young age. Sooryavanshi has shattered several records during the league phase and emerged as one of the breakout stars of the season. In 14 innings, the youngster has scored 583 runs at a staggering strike rate of 232.27, leaving bowlers across the tournament searching for answers.Interestingly, Vaibhav has already faced SRH twice this season. In the first encounter, he was dismissed for a golden duck, but in the return fixture, he responded in spectacular fashion with a breathtaking century against Hyderabad. Although SRH won both league-stage meetings, Sooryavanshi’s current form makes him a major threat heading into the Eliminator. And Cummins acknowledged the challenge while speaking to JioStar.“It’s always a balance of, as a bowler, understanding what you do well and how you’re going to bowl to your strengths. But when there are probably one or two players in every lineup who can take the game away from the opposition, you do spend a little bit longer working on a Plan B or Plan C,” Cummins said. 131343445“So, yeah, we’ll plan for him. Even though he got a hundred against us last time, I thought there were times when we actually bowled quite well to him and kept him quiet. At other times, he got away from us. So, we’ll learn from that,” He added.Pat Cummins also opened about whether beating Rajasthan Royals twice would hold any relevance,“You’re obviously starting from scratch again, but you do take learnings from previous games. We’ve played them twice. We’ve had a good look at a lot of their players. A lot of our guys can look back at those games where they’ve had success and lean on that heading into the finals. So, it’s always nice coming up against a team that you’ve had some success against,” Pat Cummins concluded.

Evan Mobley and Cavaliers get swept in East finals, raising questions
Even though the Cleveland Cavaliers made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since the LeBron James days, this season still felt like a failure. The Cavaliers got swept by the New York Knicks and showed a lack of effort in the series. Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen did not give hope that they could win a championship together. Unless LeBron James comes through the door again, the Cavs may never win a championship with this group. It was a wide-open year for the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers did not rise to the occasion. Donovan Mitchell was not a playoff riser like usual this postseason, and he showed big faults in his game, which a number 1 option should not have. James Harden did not put an end to his playoff woes. Both guys needed to be great for the Cavaliers to go all the way, and they weren't.Evan Mobley was not a liability, and in fact, he was pretty solid at the beginning of the playoffs. Yet he was not the defensive player of the year winner; he was last season this postseason. Nor was he the 2nd option this team needs him to be. The Cavaliers need much more from him, scoring-wise, and to be more consistent this postseason.Evan Mobley and the rest of this core 4 not rising to the occasion has big ramifications for the Cavaliers this offseason. This team was put together to win a championship, and a couple of years later, their window looks closed up. Would not be surprised if none of the core 4 are on the team next season. Changes will come at the very least. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: Changes could be coming for Evan Mobley and other Cleveland Cavaliers

MLB shortstop power rankings entering week 10
The 2026 MLB season is through the first nine weeks. The current campaign has seen many players continue producing. At the same time, there are players who have entered purgatory due to slumps or injuries. There is a lot of baseball left, and there will be many highs and lows as the season continues to progress. Entering week ten, here are the top 10 shortstops in baseball. MORE: Possible MLB expansion has 2 cities as heavy favorites1. His home run and RBI totals don’t compare to those of other shortstops, but he’s racking up hits and reaching base. Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore OriolesHenderson is trying to do too much. His strikeout percentage is the highest of his career, and trying to pull every pitch has led to his highest soft contact percentage. Entering the week, he leads Baltimore in hits and home runs but needs to take a step back and go back to what made him successful in the previous three seasons.10. Zach Neto, Los Angeles AngelsThe peripherals aren’t pretty, but Neto is following suit with the previous two seasons. He starts slow before going on a second-half run. Entering the week, he’s hit for power, but his strikeout rate is extremely high, and he always posts a high number of strikeouts.— Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —

Travis Kelce buys ownership stake in Cleveland Guardians
Travis Kelce is set to be a minority owner in the Cleveland Guardians. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Cleveland native told ESPN that he would be joining the team’s ownership group. His teammate Patrick Mahomes has a minority stake in the Kansas City Royals."I have so much love for this city," Kelce told ESPN. "I say it all the time: I'm just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic. Cleveland Heights is such a diverse and dynamic place. Every friend, neighbor, teacher and teammate -- they all made me the man I am today. It just fueled such a deep appreciation for life and community and service. That mentality of Cleveland against the world runs deep."I've been lucky enough to have a front-row seat to good ownership in my career, and I know the best teams prioritize culture. Everyone is there to play their role, and right now, I'm here to observe and learn and really to support the team and the city when and where I can."Kelce and Mahomes also joined the ownership group of the Formula 1 team Alpine as minority owners in the fall of 2023 along with Rory McIlroy and Anthony Joshua. The 36-year-old is a big fan of his hometown teams. Kelce was courtside with fiancée Taylor Swift for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Cleveland on Friday night, though the Cavaliers lost that game as they were swept by the New York Knicks. The 2026 season is widely expected to be Kelce’s last in the NFL. After pondering his NFL future after each of the past two seasons, Kelce signed a new contract with the Chiefs after the 2025 season. He appeared in all 17 games in 2025 and had 76 catches for 851 yards and five scores. Those 76 grabs were the fewest he had in a single season since 2015, though the Chiefs struggled to a 6-11 record as Mahomes missed the end of the season thanks to a left knee injury.

Micah Huff's best 2027 NFL draft landing spots for Jayden Maiava
The 2027 NFL draft class will be loaded with many quarterbacks who can end up being franchise changers. Jayden Maiava may not be the first thought on many experts' minds, but he still should get great consideration for being a top target for quarterback-needy teams. Here are the best NFL landing spots for Jayden Maiava next season:Pittsburgh SteelersThe Pittsburgh Steelers will be running it back for another season with Aaron Rodgers. Their doing that shows there is not yet enough trust in their young quarterbacks. They have guys that have talent and upside, but they still are a ways away from being the lead guy. Rodgers enters this season at 42 years old, and this will be his last season. I see the Steelers taking another shot at a quarterback, and with another great season, Maiava can be their target. He is very underrated, and he has the arm talent to get the ball to the Steelers' current playmakers. Mike McCarthy has a credible resume as a quarterback developer. Maiava could be his next great project. Arizona Cardinals The Cardinals are in the same boat as the Steelers, yet they did not have a placeholding starting quarterback this season. Carson Beck may be the lead guy this year, and I do not believe that he can be the one for the future. Mike Lafleur is the new guy in charge in Arizona. Maiava can step right in and compete for the starting job. Mike Lafleur will implement an offense that is very similar to the one Maiava was very successful in last season under Lincoln Riley. The Cardinals may have the number 1 overall pick, but if not, I think Maiava is a potential 1st round pick that could be the perfect fit. Los Angeles RamsThe Rams would be a dream landing spot for Maiava. I do not think they will be picking in the top 20, and if they have a late first-round pick or second-round pick, that is a realistic spot for Maiava. This will all pan on how Ty Simpson does and how they feel about his development. The scheme and the weapons for the Rams are a situation that creates potential instant success for Maiava. It does not get any better than Matthew Stafford as a veteran quarterback and Sean McVay as the coach. This would be an environment very similar to things at USC for Maiava, and I think that sets him up perfectly in the NFL. Minnesota VikingsThe Minnesota Vikings were looking to upgrade their quarterback room after last season's disastrous season. They added Kyler Murray, who should elevate their offense. I think how this season looks for him will decide whether or not they take a quarterback in this next class. Still think it wouldn't hurt, as Murray is a quarterback who tends to get banged up with his small stature. Jayden Maiva is the perfect quarterback for Kevin O'Connell to develop. Kevin O'Connell is seen as a quarterback whisperer; he can prove that with Maiava. I think the two will have success together. NFL teams more than ever want an athlete at quarterback, and Maiava provides that for Minnesota. He has the weapons to thrive and the coaching to thrive; this would be a seamless fit for him. Seattle SeahawksThe Seattle Seahawks have the perfect quarterback to mentor Jayden Maiava, with another USC Trojan quarterback in Sam Darnold. Maiava and Darnold have similarities in their passing ability, but Maiava slides as a better athlete. The Seattle Seahawks struck gold with taking a chance on Darnold, and he delivered them a championship in year 1. Should things begin to fall off the rails, getting Jayden Maiava, a young quarterback with huge upside, would be great insurance for the future. Giants QB Jaxson Dart says he's 'not like Tim Tebow' after gaining muscle
Ahead of his second season in the NFL, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart put on muscle in an effort to stay healthy. He clarified, however, that he hasn't gained enough strength to draw comparisons to former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Last week, Dart was asked about the danger for NFL quarterbacks gaining too much muscle, which could impact their performance."No, I'm not close to that," Dart said, via Tyler Henry of Giants Wire. "I'm not like Tim Tebow. I'm not like that. I'm probably the most mobile I've been in my career right now. Just my hips and the disassociation from my upper to lower body, being able to make throws. I think my body is in the best shape it's been."Tebow was a weight-lifting legend with the Florida Gators, and he did 31 bench-press reps of 225 pounds as recently as 2022, which would have set a quarterback record if performed at the NFL combine. Tebow was perhaps one of the strongest QBs in NFL history, but that didn't necessarily translate to success on the field.Tebow was arguably the best running quarterback in franchise history, but he only completed 47.3% of his passes during his time in Denver. Whether or not Tebow's massive strength negatively impacted his ability as a passer is up for debate, but Dart completed 63.7% of his passes last fall, and he clearly doesn't think putting on muscle will limit his production in 2026."I'm not like Tim Tebow" 😭Jaxson Dart is asked about his weight training this offseason and the shape he's in this spring pic.twitter.com/wy7Moi58yn— SNY Giants (@SNYGiants) May 21, 2026The Giants are not among the Broncos' 2026 opponents, but Denver is scheduled to host a same-place finisher from the NFC East in 2027, so Dart and New York could face the Broncos down the road.Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! ‘Greatest Collapse’ — Ex-Penn State Star Defends James Franklin Firing After Steve Sarkisian Comments
Oct 11, 2025; University Park, Pennsylvania, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin stands on the field following the game against the Northwestern Wildcats at Beaver Stadium. © Matthew O'Haren-Imagn ImagesJames Franklin was among the college football head coaches who lost their jobs during the 2025 season. Unlike many coaches who are fired because of poor overall records, he was reportedly let go largely because he couldn’t deliver wins against top-tier opponents. Why Former Penn State Star Landon Tengwall Supported James Franklin’s FiringTexas head coach Steve Sarkisian made eyebrow-raising comments on Franklin’s Penn State firing during the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Florida, on Tuesday. He said he watched a coach get fired five games into a season last year, after leading his team to the semifinals the year before. While he didn’t explicitly take Franklin’s name, he said the firing was “concerning” to him about the health of the sport.Former Penn State offensive tackle Landon Tengwall later expanded on the topic in a detailed social media post. Tengwall acknowledged that Franklin deserves significant praise for reviving Penn State early in his tenure and restoring the program. He also pointed out that Franklin received patience and support after the Nittany Lions went just 11-11 across the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but his tenure started collapsing after that.“Then he went on to have three seasons in a row with 10+ wins, but lost to OSU and Michigan each year and still couldn’t get over the hump,” Tengwall wrote. “Before Franklin was fired, it was widely agreed upon that drawing SMU and then Boise State in the 2024 CFP would forever be the easiest route to a CFP Semifinal game that there will ever be. Enter 2025: Franklin had been “pounding the table” for full support and alignment, and he finally got it. He went out and got the highest-paid DC in CFB history and had the opportunity to spend whatever he wanted in the portal.“Franklin himself said the 2025 staff and roster was the most talented group he’s ever assembled, and for most people Penn State was the Natty favorite going into 2025. Franklin went on to coach Penn State into the greatest collapse in College Football history, losing back to back games where his team was favored by more than 20 points. There’s your context for why a coach was fired after making it to the CFP semifinals.”As Penn State hired Matt Campbell as Franklin’s successor, the Nittany Lions are slowly but surely working their way toward their Sept. 5 season opener against Marshall in Beaver Stadium. Penn State is already rumored to potentially secure a 10-2 season in 2026 due to a manageable schedule and the addition of Rocco Becht, who finished last season with a 78.6 score in the PFSN College Football QB Impact. As for Franklin, he is set to begin a new chapter at Virginia Tech in 2026 after the program finished 3-9 last season. ESPN has already predicted that the Hokies could become a surprise College Football Playoff contender in 2026 due to the continuity and talent Franklin is expected to bring with him to Blacksburg.Read More: ‘The Disgruntled Girl’ : LSU Legend Fires Warning Amid Lane Kiffin’s Potential SEC Reprimand Concern

Juventus Likely to Stay the Course Despite Down Year
Juventus Likely to Stay the Course Despite Down YearJuventus might not do anything drastic despite missing out on a top-four finish. Luciano Spalletti is safely at the helm given his recent extension. CEO Damien Comolli remains slightly at risk, but their owner John Elkann is leaning toward standing pat and at most hiring one more director, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. The Bianconeri need to get the apical exec and the boss on the same page. They haven’t been openly feuding, but they don’t see eye-to-eye on several things. The gaffer would like to be more involved in the transfer market and aims for a substantial overhaul. Instead, the figurehead intends to just tweak the squad and blames the tactician for not using the whole roster.Elkann will try to find permanent common ground between Comolli and Spalletti, so Juventus can avoid radical changes. The Frenchman spoke about the recent season and the future to various outlets (via Sky).“The goal is to improve together. Everything we’ve done has been shared. The coach has a say on the deals and indicates players. I chose him and decided to renew his contract. There’ll probably be one extra sale to offset the losses, but Kenan Yildiz is untouchable. We have to rebuild a team able to fight for any goal.”Our Take on Juventus, Spalletti, and ComolliIt’s a fine way to go after so many instability in recent years, but it’s still a slippery slope. Unity behind the scenes goes a long way, and Roma are the latest example of that. Plus, modifications at the top can only happen between seasons. If they do come to an understanding, it’ll have to be super solid so the divergences and the bickering don’t emerge after the first misstep.

Anthony Richardson to Vikings trade proposal by ESPN gets a stamp of approval
Anthony Richardson to Vikings trade proposal by ESPN gets a stamp of approval originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Anthony Richardson has mostly worn out his welcome with the Indianapolis Colts. The former top-five pick has battled injuries and ineffectiveness, and last year he lost the starting QB job to Daniel Jones. He appears highly unlikely to get it back. That could make him a logical trade candidate at some point before the 2026 season arrives."Richardson requested a trade in February, and the Colts agreed to try and accommodate him," ESPN's Stephen Holder wrote in a new article on Wednesday. "No deal has materialized yet, but Richardson's decision earlier this month to finally show up for voluntary offseason workouts hasn't changed his position. A future in Indianapolis seems doubtful after a messy three seasons filled with injuries, benchings and wavering by the Colts."As part of the aforementioned ESPN article, their analyst Seth Walder proposed a way the Minnesota Vikings could end up with Richardson. He would offer a 2027 fifth-round pick for the young QB."Richardson can come to the Kevin O'Connell school of quarterbacks and learn behind another mobile QB in Kyler Murray, who is on just a one-year contract with Minnesota," Walder writes. "Richardson's deal expires in 2027, too, but his acquisition would give the Vikings more options going forward. Maybe Murray works out great and becomes the long-term starter in Minnesota. Or maybe Murray heads elsewhere and the Vikings see enough growth from Richardson to keep him around."Holder thinks that would be enough to get a deal done, too."The win-win here is Walder's offer from the Vikings," Holder writes. "First, it gives the Colts a fifth-rounder without a pick swap like Solak's offer from Detroit. And Minnesota's fifth-rounder will likely come earlier than Green Bay's fifth-rounder, giving this deal the edge over Fowler's pitch. Additionally, it would allow Indianapolis to accommodate Richardson, as Ballard has said he'd like to do, by pairing him with a QB developer in O'Connell. That's precisely what Richardson has been hoping for."Things would get crowded in a hurry in Minnesota, and a move like this could be a domino that also leads to a Vikings trade of J.J. McCarthy somewhere else.Richardson's tools, though, might still be worth betting on, and this would be the Vikings doing just that without a massive cost.

Israel says it killed new Hamas military leader in Gaza
Palestinians mourn over the body of Mohammad Odeh, whom Israel says was a leader of Hamas Qassam Brigades, a day after he was killed in an Israeli airstrike, during his funeral in Gaza City, Wednesday, May 27, 2026. (AP Photo/Jehad Alshrafi)2026-05-27T09:02:10Z DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel said Wednesday it targeted and killed the new leader of Hamas’ military wing during airstrikes in Gaza City less than two weeks after killing his predecessor.Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz and the Israeli military said the strikes carried out Tuesday killed Mohammed Odeh. Hamas did not comment on Odeh.At least five people were killed and 12 injured in Tuesday’s strike on a market including Odeh, his wife, son and daughter and another woman, local hospitals said. The attack came on the eve of Eid al-Adha, a major Muslim holiday.Thousands of people gathered Wednesday for the joint funeral of Odeh’s family in Gaza City. Mourners covered the four bodies with green Hamas flags and marched from a mosque through the city, chanting and firing shots in the air. Some carried posters with Odeh’s poster emblazoned with the words “one of the chiefs of staffs of the Qassam Brigades,” referring to Hamas’ military wing. Katz called him “one of the architects” of the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks that triggered over two years of war in Gaza and said it was the fourth time Israel has killed the head of Hamas’ military wing since that massacre. Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the previous head, was killed on May 16. “We pledged to eliminate everyone who led the October 7 massacre and this is what we will do: they are all bound to die, everywhere,” Katz wrote on X on Wednesday. “We pledged that Hamas will not hold civilian or military rule.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is preparing for elections in the fall, also threatened that Israel will target everyone involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack. Read More A grim Eid in GazaThe attack came as Muslims prepared for Eid al-Adha, normally a joyous time of family gatherings and large meals. The holiday once again is subdued this year in Gaza, where the vast majority of people remain displaced and live in tents or temporary shelters after a devastating war. Around 90% of Gaza’s more than 2 million people have lost their homes, according to U.N. estimates, with most of them now sheltering in huge tent camps with rat infestations and pools of sewage. They are dependent on aid to survive. Eid al-Adha, or “Feast of Sacrifice,” is an Islamic holiday celebrated by millions of Muslims across the globe. The four-day holiday, which begins during the Hajj pilgrimage, also is known for being a joyous occasion during which families gather, and children are given new clothes and gifts.“This is not Eid ... we’re dead,” said Mahmoud Saqer, a displaced man from Khan Younis, who described people as being distressed by the ongoing human suffering and killings in the territory. In Khan Younis and Gaza City, amid destroyed buildings, including a ruined mosque, people gathered for Eid prayers with few signs of celebration beyond a few clusters of balloons lining one street. Tahrir al-Khatib said the joy that accompanies Eid has been silenced in Gaza.“There’s no Eid. My children were killed. Eid is only for the people who lost no one,” said Ayda Al-Banna, a displaced women from Gaza City, who prayed Eid prayers with her granddaughter. Fragile ceasefire holds in GazaA ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas in October remains fragile. Israeli attacks have killed more than 880 Palestinians since the ceasefire took effect. Israel says its attacks are in response to violations by Hamas or threats to its soldiers, but Palestinian health officials say scores of civilians have been among the dead. Four Israeli soldiers have also been killed during this period in Gaza.Israel launched its offensive in Gaza in response to the Hamas attacks in October 2023, which killed some 1,200 people and took 251 others hostage. The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza says over 72,803 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire. The ministry, part of Gaza’s Hamas government, does not give a breakdown of civilian and militant deaths. ___Associated Press writer Fatma Khaled contributed from Cairo. The San Francisco 49ers are making some salary cap space this spring. Gloucester sit ninth in the Prem table with two games left of the regular season [Rex Features]Gloucester centre Max Llewellyn says his side are still aiming for a top-eight Prem finish to secure European competition next season, despite being "disappointed" with their performances this campaign.Defeat by Saracens last time out ended a run of two consecutive home wins and leaves George Skivington's side ninth with two games remaining - this Saturday at leaders Northampton and seven days later at home to bottom side Newcastle."As a playing group we feel disappointed with how we have been performing, but it [eighth] is definitely something we are going after," 27-year-old Welshman Llewellyn told BBC Radio Gloucestershire."It will be a real challenge between now and the end of the season to show everyone how well we can actually perform, and what we can do as players, because we haven't been happy with how it has been before."The chance that we have as players is to redeem ourselves, go after it, and show the fans what we can do."The Cherry and Whites finished fifth domestically in 2024-25 but came bottom of their Champions Cup pool this campaign. But head coach Skivington believes his side have shown enough fighting spirit to give themselves another shot among rugby's European elite in 2026-27."That's definitely a trait that has come through in this group, they have stuck together through thick and thin," said the 43-year-old."They have worked really hard, never taken a week off or come in on a Monday with their heads dropped, they have kept fighting and fighting."I am proud of the character they have shown this season."The objective is to be better, have a good final two games and hopefully pick up enough points to be in the top eight, that would be important."'Nowhere to hide' training in this heat - LlewellynWhile much of the United Kingdom has sought solace and shade during the intense heatwave that has covered the country this week, it has been a case of business as usual for sports teams up and down the land, including Gloucester."It has been tough, we have had a few tough sessions already and the temperatures don't make it easier," Llewellyn said."One of the worst things is when you come off at the end of a session, and you're trying to cool off but there really is nowhere to hide from it."You just end up sweating for the rest of the day."On the other side of the line, from a coaching standpoint, Skivington is only focused on preparing his side as best as possible for the trip to Northampton, with temperatures set to remain high this weekend."There are a few ways of dealing with the heat, you can try getting out the heat or shorten the sessions up - you have to be a little smart, and we did flip a few things around," he said."Ultimately, it is going to be hot at the weekend, and the boys have ripped into it, so we have tried to be as smart as possible without hiding away from it."There are worse things to do than training in the heat at the end of the day."

  • Supreme Court says Brian Flores' lawsuit against NFL (and Broncos) can proceed to trial
The Supreme Court of the United States will allow Brian Flores' lawsuit against the NFL (and several teams) to proceed toward open court after the justices "rebuffed an appeal from the league, which wanted the case handled through its arbitration process," according to the Associated Press."The NFL must now accept that its commissioner cannot be the arbitrator over discrimination claims against the league and its teams. We look forward to litigating these claims in court," David Gottlieb and Douglas Wigdor, the attorneys representing Flores, said in a statement. Flores, 45, filed his lawsuit in 2022, accusing the NFL of racism in hiring. In addition to the league, the lawsuit also named the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins. Flores accused Denver of interviewing him for their head coach opening in 2021 merely to satisfy the NFL's Rooney Rule. The Broncos denied those allegations in 2022, calling them "blatantly false."Flores now serves as a defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings. Denver put in a request to interview Flores for its DC position in 2023, but he opted to join the Vikings, and the Broncos ultimately hired Vance Joseph instead. 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge Preview And Odds
FORT WORTH, TEXAS - MAY 25: Ben Griffin of the United States lines up a putt on the fifth green during the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 at Colonial Country Club on May 25, 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas. (Photo by Sam Hodde/Getty Images)Getty ImagesThe PGA Tour continues through the 2026 season, and some of the game’s best players are preparing for the upcoming Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club. This is coming off the heels of Wyndham Clark’s dominant performance at TPC Craig Ranch at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. When you’re talking about Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, it is a Par 70 measuring at 7,289 yards in length. Another Texas course, and another venue which is considered shorter compared to other tour stops on the schedule. The vast majority of the big name players are taking this tournament off, but it’s still important to take a look at the past winners of this event:The Charles Schwab Challenge Past Winners 2025 - Ben Griffin2024 - Davis Riley2023 - Emiliano Grillo2022 - Sam BurnsKeeping in mind players who have done well in this tournament, let’s take a look at the top five players, based on odds.2026 Charles Schwab Challenge OddsLudvig Aberg (+1000)Russell Henley (+2000)Robert McIntyre (+2050)Rickie Fowler (+2400)Justin Thomas (+2500)When it comes to picks for this event, I like to start with my favorite and long shot picks for the tournament. The favorite pick is the pick I like the most for an outright winner. For the long shot winner, that is a golfer who has over +2000 odds to win. It is a long shot pick for a reason, and finding those can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Here are my favorite and long shot picks for the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge:Favorite: Ludvig Aberg (+1000)Long Shot: Hideki Matsuyama (+3100)If you’ve been following golf, you’ve seen plenty of Ludvig Aberg throughout his career. Aberg has won on tour, and had moments, both good and bad, throughout the last few seasons. However, the one thing which can be said about Aberg is his ability to bounce back. After he faltered on Sunday at the Players Championship this season, he bounced back and has had six Top 10 finishes this year. Aberg’s game is rounding into form, and I think he has a very good chance at winning this event with a rather watered down field. As for Matsuyama, he is typically good for one win a season, and it often comes when you just don’t expect it. With this field, on this course, I could see it happening. It’s a long shot, but it’s a play I’m willing to make. Now let’s take a look at the Top 5, Top 10, Top 20, and Bonus plays for the 2026 Charles Schwab.Top 5 Bets For the Charles Schwab Challenge 2026Justin Thomas (+500)Ludvig Aberg (+225)Thomas hasn’t played since the PGA Championship when he had a terrific Sunday to put himself as the clubhouse leader before Aaron Rai ran away with the tournament. Either way you slice it, Thomas has been improving every event since he returned to tour from surgery earlier this season. The +500 odds are too good for me to pass up.As for Aberg, I am putting him in the Scottie Scheffler role this week where I feel if he doesn’t win he’ll absolutely be near the top of the leaderboard. Getting Aberg at +225 was an easy pick for me, on paper.Top 10 Picks For the Charles Schwab Challenge 2026Ben Griffin (+240)J.J. Spaun (+290)Griffin won this event last year, and past success absolutely plays a role into my decision making when making my plays for upcoming events. I don’t feel as if Griffin’s game is at it’s absolute best, but I think he should be able to be near the Top 10 with the current field.Speaking of the lesser than field, J.J. Spaun, who did win on tour already this season, should be a viable option to be sniffing a Top 10 finish in this tournament. Spaun’s game has been hit-or-miss this season, so let’s hope he helps us cash this Top 10 play.Top 20 Value Picks For the Charles Schwab Challenge 2026Rickie Fowler (+110)Hideki Matsuyama (+134)Fowler has seen a career resurgence of sorts this season, to the point where he is in the Top 5 odds to win this event. Fowler’s game has improved a lot, but he still has those rounds where he simply can’t get it all together. Nonetheless, I foresee him playing well and finishing near the Top 20.My “gut pick” of the week is Matsuyama. Last week Tony Finau paid off our “gut pick” and here is hoping Hideki can get the job done as well. Matsuyama has plenty of game, and asking for a Top 20 finish should be a viable option for the Charles Schwab.Best Prop Bets, Parlays And Bonus Plays for the Charles Schwab ChallengeFor bonus plays, these are picks which I don’t necessarily hang my hat on, but still provide value for some who want more exotic plays outside of the aforementioned picks. Sometimes bonus plays are parlays, double chances, triple chances, and even some fun plays for that particular event. Here are the Bonus plays for the 2026 the Charles Schwab Challenge:Double Chance: Ludvig Aberg or Justin Thomas (+710)Triple Chance: Ludvig Aberg, Russell Henley, Ben Griffin (+490)Winning Margin: 3 Shots (+610)This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Arsenal and Tottenham players reportedly party together
Arsenal and Tottenham players reportedly party togetherArsenal were marking their first league title in 22 years, while Tottenham’s players were out after avoiding relegation on the final day.Photo by Julian Finney/Getty ImagesArsenal and Tottenham players reportedly ended up partying together in central London after the final day of the Premier League season, with the two north London rivals marking very different ends to the campaign. For Mikel Arteta’s side, the night followed the formal trophy lift at Selhurst Park, where Arsenal celebrated their first league title in 22 years. For Tottenham, the emotion was relief rather than glory after they avoided relegation on the final day.According to SunSport, Arsenal’s players began their celebrations at Bacchanalia in Mayfair, where non-playing staff, backroom employees, training-ground staff, families and friends were invited to join the squad.Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images For Premier LeagueThe venue was all-but closed to the public, allowing Arsenal’s players and staff to celebrate privately after a demanding season that ended with the club back at the top of English football. Some of the squad later moved on to Bagatelle, before heading to Tape nightclub, where they reportedly crossed paths with Tottenham players, who were also out after the final round of fixtures.Despite the rivalry between the clubs, “SunSport was told both sets of players partied together into the early hours of the Bank Holiday morning.”I’m sure the Spurs’ fans will love those images if they ever come out.
