Missing trans art student found dead after weeks of searching
The body of a transgender art student missing for nearly a month was found on May 24 in a wooded area near the campus of Northern Kentucky University (NKU), where he was a student, police and family say. Murry Foust, 22, was last seen on April 27 in Covington, Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati, according to the Covington Police Department. Cops issued a missing-persons alert three days later and asked for the public’s help in finding him. Foust’s body was found on Sunday night, local media reported. Police did not provide details of the circumstances of Foust’s death, saying only that foul play was not suspected. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Foust was discovered in a wooded area in Wilder, Kentucky, police shared, across the Licking River from the neighborhood where he was last seen. The Wilder Police Department and Campbell County Coroner’s Office led an examination of the scene. Foust’s cause of death will be announced following an autopsy, police said. The college senior’s family shared a message on social media after the search party’s discovery. “While our hearts are broken and this is not the outcome we were hoping for, we can only pray that finding them provides closure and comfort to everyone who is hurting,” Foust’s family wrote on Monday. The college senior used he/them pronouns. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Foust family and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Covington Police Department said. “While we are saddened by this loss, we hope this development can provide the family with some answers and a measure of closure.” Family, friends, NKU students, and city officials rallied to find Foust in an exhaustive four-week search. Charlie King, a friend of Foust’s, said on Facebook that the senior was on his way to campus from Over-the-Rhine, a neighborhood just north of downtown Cincinnati, on the night of April 27. “Murry never made it to class and has been missing ever since,” King said. Foust’s car was found a block from his apartment, his bag was at NKU, and cops said they later found his cellphone, according to King. Foust was just two weeks away from commencement when he disappeared. He was also reportedly early in the transition process. The family announced that they’re starting a scholarship in Foust’s name, “to honor their love of art.” “Any donations or proceeds from the sale of Murry’s work will be used to support other art students in the community,” they said. Report: Astros to Place Allen on IL, Recall Whitcomb

(Photo by Houston Astros/Getty Images) | Getty Images According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, the Astros are preparing to place IF Nick Allen on the IL.Source: the Astros are going to place IF Nick Allen on the injured list with a hamstring injury and IF Shay Whitcomb will be called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to join the team tonight in Anaheim.— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) June 8, 2026The slick-fielding Allen is batting .262 this season with a .304 OBP and .648 OPS. He had seen more duty of late with IF Braden Shewmake and 2B Jose Altuve both on IL recently. Altuve rejoined the lineup 3 days ago.Whitcomb, 27, put up strong seasons at Triple-A Sugar Land the past 2 seasons but has struggled this year, batting just .231 with a .266 OBP and .646 OPS. Across 331 games at Triple-A, Whitcomb is a .260 hitter with a .337 OBP and .819 OPS with 77 HR and 60 SB. Whitcomb has never fared well at the MLB level although he has never really been given any kind of consistent opportunity either. Across 3 seasons, Whitcomb only has 90 AB across 54 G with the Astros. Whitcomb has batted .167 with a .219 OBP and .485 OPS with 2 HR and 10 RBI.Whitcomb will likely serve as emergency insurance, with Brice Matthews filling in at 2B if Altuve should be unavailable or need a day.

Making sense of the lineup’s last 30 days
Jun 5, 2026; Chicago, Illinois, USA; San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman (26), right, high fives San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez (1) and designated hitter Bryce Eldridge (8) after he hits a grand slam against the Chicago Cubs during the fourth inning at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images | Matt Marton-Imagn Images If the San Francisco Giants have been too much of a bummer for you this season such that you’ve limited the amount of information you’ve taken in about them, then you probably missed how for the past month they’ve been the best offense in Major League Baseball. It’s a shocker for those of us who’ve been watching every game, too, believe it or not, and I’m going to try to make some sense of it.The easy answer is that a group of guys started hitting to their career averages and 2026 projections and that simple regression to the mean timed out to look like an offensive explosion. Top that off with the franchise’s top hitting prospect in Bryce Eldridge and Orange-o, Black-o you’ve got the best lineup in baseball for a month. Except, looking at the numbers, it sure does seem like the Giants changed their approach in the offseason and needed two months to translate that approach to the regular season.Overall, this collection of guys is walking well below their career averages. The team will probably wind up with the lowest walk rate in the sport come the end of the season (it currently stands at 5.9%, 1.6% behind the next-lowest team, the Toronto Blue Jays), which is incredibly impressive feat (derogatory) when you consider the offensive environment of the 21st century. Indeed, just seven teams since 2000 have ended a season with a walk rate of 6.5% or lower: 2002 Tigers, 6.1 BB% — record: 66-962005 Tigers, 6.3 BB% — record: 71-912007 Mariners, 6.3 BB% — record: 88-742008 Royals, 6.4 BB% — record: 75-872006 Cubs, 6.4 BB% — record: 66-962006 Mariners, 6.5 BB% — record: 78-842009 Giants, 6.5 BB% — record: 88-74But I digress! Walks are evil in this new Giants era and earlier in the season the low walk rate was evidence of opposing pitchers gleefully throwing the ball right down the middle (basically) knowing that Giants hitters couldn’t do any damage. Right? Well… yes. The data only points to this unfortunate fact.Through May 6th and the first 37 games of the season, the Giants saw the most pitches in the strike zone (43.6%) of any team. The Dodgers, Brewers, and Nationals were 2nd, 3rd, and 4th about a percentage point behind the Giants in this respect. When you look at the other plate discipline statistics, the Giants aren’t such an obvious outlier that it would explain why they had scored the fewest runs and done the least damage except that once Giants made contact it was weak. TeamZone %Swing%SwStr%O-Swing%O-Contact%Z-Swing%Z-Contact%Contact%GIANTS43.6%49.2% (4th)10.4% (21st)34.9% (6th)66.1% (5th)67.7% (10th)87.2% (9th)78.8% (7th)DODGERS42.6%45.8% (18th)9.6% (26th)29.9% (25th)64.9% (8th)67.3% (12th)87.4% (7th)79.0% (5th)BREWERS42.5%42.9% (12th)8.7% (29th)27.5% (30th)64.1% (11th)63.6% (29th)88.8% (2nd)79.7% (2nd)NATIONALS42.2%46.8% (30th)10.7% (18th)31.9% (18th)61.9% (21st)67.2% (14th)87.0% (12th)77.1% (14th)As a reminder, the Nationals were 4th in runs scored (205), the Dodgers 5th (196), and the Brewers 9th (181). The Giants were last (30th — 115) by a good measure (Mets, 29th — 134).But look at that chart. The Giants were comparable to some of the better lineups in the sport through the first 6 weeks of the season or so in terms of swinging the bat. The only real difference — and it’s significant to be sure — is that the Giants, on top of seeing lots of pitches in the strike zone, were swinging at pitches outside of the strike zone at a really high rate. Given the results, it’s probably a decent enough conclusion that the Giants were making subpar contact on the good pitches and making plenty of the same quality of contact on the bad ones.I’ll show that here with the expected weighted on base average. According to Statcast, the league average for that figure (the weighted on base average based on the quality of contact) is .320. Through 5/7/2026, only 3 Giants in the top 5 of hitters (and out of 18 who had an at bat) reached that threshold:Jesus Rodriguez (9 AB), .391Daniel Susac (23 AB), .386Casey Schmitt (115 AB), .370Heliot Ramos (134 AB), .318Jung Hoo Lee (133 AB), .312For comparison, 10 of 15 Dodgers were above that .320 mark, 8 of 18 Brewers crossed the threshold, and 6 of 14 Nationals did it, too. What a nightmare! What a disaster! But you’re reading this a month after that mark and quite a lot has changed. The Giants have scored the most runs in the sport over their last 29 games (since May 8th: 157 runs) ahead of the White Sox (155), Dodgers (149), Brewers (148), Pirates (148) and Nationals (147). But beyond that, they’ve just been a good lineup: a 126 wRC+ that also leads the sport with a triple slash of .277 (1st) / .331 (5th) / .480 (1st). Their 6.5% walk rate is 29th (only Boston is worse at 6.4%), but their 19.9% strikeout rate is tied with the Dodgers for second behind the Diamondbacks (18.2%) and ahead of the Nationals (20.0%). And, by the way, the team’s season-long strikeout rate (21.1%) has kept them top 10 all season long with the Dodgers (20.2%) and Brewers (20.4%) and even Atlanta (20.7%) — the Nats are 11th (21.3%). The mark of a good lineup when the quality of contact is there, which it hasn’t been until right now.But why has the contact gotten better? Have the players simply improved their timing? Are they jumping at the first pitch more often? Laying off those pitches outside of the zone?Giants splitZone %Swing%SwStr%O-Swing%O-Contact%Z-Swing%Z-Contact%Contact%Games 1-3743.6%49.2%10.4%34.9%66.1%67.7%87.2%78.8%Games 38-6642.9%50.0%10.8%35.9%66.2%68.7%87.0%78.5%The only real differences here are that the Giants are seeing fewer pitches outside the strike zone but they’re swinging even more and swinging more in the strike zone. That hasn’t changed the amount of contact in the zone, but as I’m about to show you with this other list, the quality of that contact has improved dramatically.Over their last 29 games, 8 Giants have hit better than the league average in terms of xwOBA: Jonah Cox (9 AB), .530Bryce Eldridge (73 AB), .397Eric Haase (34 AB), .364Jung Hoo Lee (87 AB), .364Heliot Ramos (31 AB), .356Willy Adames (116 AB), .344Rafael Devers (118 AB), .329Casey Schmitt (116 AB), .326And you can play around with the start date a bit if you want, too. If you adjust it to start on the Dodgers series in Dodger Stadium, then Luis Arraez becomes one of the 8. If you start it at the A’s series, then Matt Chapman becomes one of the 8 (Luis Arraez drops down to .315). If you narrow it down to the last 2 weeks then you still get about 8 guys who are hitting at or better than the league average just based on the quality of contact. All they’re doing is swinging slightly more and at pitches in the strike zone. But it’s pretty clear that they’re getting off better swings. The team’s groundball rate through those first 37 games (44.8%) was the fifth-highest in the sport. Their 10.9% infield flyball percentage was 13th. A 6.6% HR/FB rate (lowest in the sport, of course). 23rd in pulled ball rate (38.7%). I know there’s a deep, unyielding group of baseball fans who can’t accept that the game has changed, but hitting the ball in the air in the modern game is more conducive to scoring runs and being a successful team. Over their last 29 games, their groundball rate has dropped to 38% (26th), their infield flyball percentage is 9.7% (20th), a 12.7% HR/FB rate, and a pulled ball rate of 40.2% (19th). It probably helps that they’re seeing more fastballs than any other team in the National League (51.2%). That rate has gone down a bit since those first 37 games (52.3%), and even better: the average fastball velocity has dropped to 93.9 mph from 94.7 mph earlier in the season. Save for two notable exceptions, the Giants have gotten better against some average-to-bad pitching. A list of their opponents over these past 29 games with season ERAs:Pirates, 4.06 (15th)Dodgers, 3.17 (1st)Athletics, 4.58 (23rd)Diamondbacks, 4.19 (17th)White Sox, 4.38 (20th)Rockies, 5.60 (30th)Brewers, 3.26 (3rd)Cubs, 4.29 (19th)This isn’t damning with faint praise! Good lineups are supposed to feast on bad pitching. This isn’t to say that the Giants do have a good lineup, but it’s plausible that they have an average enough lineup that if they could actually get their act together on the pitching side then 2027 could wind up being a really special season. But for this season, despite missing the playoffs, the Giants have actually started to realize the lineup they touted in the offseason. I think it’s sustainable based mainly on the fact that it is a bunch of guys hitting to their projections. That should make for a summer that’s slightly more fun than the one we were pitched in April.

Incoming Real Madrid boss Mourinho sends transfer message to Man UnitedSoon-to-be unveiled Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has made his stance on the future of Blancos star Aurélien Tchouaméni clear with a view to next season. This comes amid speculation linking the France international with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United.Tchouaméni, it is understood, has been earmarked as a leading transfer target on the part of the Old Trafford hierarchy, amid an ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park. After a high-profile late-season falling out with Blancos teammate Federico Valverde, it had in turn been suggested that Real Madrid could be open to a sale at the right price. As alluded to above, though, no such move will be forthcoming in the case of José Mourinho getting his way.As per a report from Manchester United journalist Samuel Luckhurst, writing for The Sun:‘United shortlisted Tchouaméni as a possible midfield marquee target after Madrid endured a second successive trophyless season. However, Mourinho does not want to sell ahead of his imminent return to the Bernabéu.’Conor Laird – GSFN

“Paige Is 1 Of 1”: Paige Bueckers Ties Franchise Assist Record As Teammate Reflects On Missed Chances
Paige Bueckers is in a league of her own in their 104-96 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday after creating history for herself and the Dallas Wings. Looking to impress in her second season in the WNBA, Bueckers continued to do the job she was tasked to do when she was drafted first overall last year. She dished out 14 assists during their win against the Sparks, tying the record set by Arike Ogunbowale for the Wings’ single-game record assists. With her performance, she also matched the highest assist total by any WNBA player this season, earning the much-needed praise across the entire league. Even her fellow Wings star Ogunbowale couldn’t help but give Paige a glowing review.May 12, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (5) looks on during the game between the Wings and the Dream at College Park Center. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images“We actually had a lot of missed layups,” Ogunbowale had said, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Myah Taylor. When asked about the record in the post-game interview, she said, “I think that’s dope. Obviously, Paige is 1 of 1.”With Ogunbowale admitting their team’s mishaps in a game where Bueckers created history, it only shows that she could’ve gotten more, and could’ve possibly broken the same record Arike set in the past had they converted her passes and made their shots. Still, the Wings managed to shoot 53% from the field and got the job done against the Sparks.“It was all planned to be able to share with Arike”: Paige Bueckers grateful to have shared record with Dallas Wings teammateIt may have been an achievement that could set her career for many years to come, but Paige Bueckers believes she was meant to share the pedestal with the Dallas Wings’ other playmaker, Arike Ogunbowale.May 24, 2026; Brooklyn, New York, USA; Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (5) dribbles the ball as time expires in the fourth quarter against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center. My teammates just did a really good job of getting people open, screening, cutting, and moving without the ball, and just making the game easy for me.”May 14, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (5) and guard Azzi Fudd (35) look on from the bench during the second half against the Minnesota Lynx at College Park Center. GOP senator rages at Pete Hegseth for excluding Mormons from list of Christian sects: “Undo it.”
Mormon anti-LGBTQ+ Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) raged on social media after Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth listed the Latter-day Saints as a religious sect separate from Christians on a newly revised list of military members’ faiths. In a May 20 memo, the Department of Defense slashed the number of individual religious affiliations that military members can claim from 211 to 31. The memo said the revision was to help military chaplains better serve troops’ beliefs. Related Pete Hegseth’s pastor describes his terrifying Christian nationalist dream for the U.S. In a video posted to X on Sunday, Sen. Lee said, “I find this offensive, not just because that happens to be my faith, not just because it happens to the faith of tens of thousands of U.S. military personnel, but it’s also just repugnant to any sense of decency, any sense of our common heritage and our common belief that the government needs to not weigh in on doctrinal disputes between various religious denominations. I respectfully am imploring people at the Pentagon to reconsider this, not just reconsider it but undo it. Secretary Hegseth, tear down that wall. This is not cool. Get rid of it. Arizona Cardinals moving forward with K Chad Ryland
When the 2025 season began, it appeared that Arizona Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland would pick up where he left off from the season before. After replacing an injured Matt Prater, Ryland made 28-of-32 field-goal attempts that included perfection on four from more than 50 yards (51, 55, 57, 58) and helping win a few games with last-second kicks. In the first five games last season, it was more of the same with 8-of-10 field-goal successes and the only misses on a blocked 46-yard attempt and one from 57 yards. One of the makes was from 57 yards. However, punter and holder Blake Gillikin suffered a back injury in Week 5 and spent the remainder of the season on injured reserve. After that, Pat O’Donnell and then Matt Haack did the punting and holding for the remainder of the season, and Ryland’s season went downhill. In the final 12 games, he was 17-for-23 on field goals (73.9 percent) with three misses on eight 50-yard-plus kicks and also failed to come through in some critical situations in close losses.A missed 33-yard attempt in a 27-24 overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 12.A miss from 43 yards the following week in a 20-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.A 44-yard miss in a Week 16 26-19 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The Cardinals signed kicker Josh Karty from the Los Angeles Rams practice squad on Dec. 23 after he was replaced by Harrison Mevis following some issues of his own. Karty was inactive for the final two games of the season, but was signed for 2026 to provide competition for Ryland.Karty was 10-for-15 on field goals for the Rams with three of the misses from 26, 36 (blocked) and 39 yards. He also missed three extra points. Mevis was signed to the practice squad after Karty missed an extra point and a field-goal attempt 39 yards in a 34-10 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.When Mevis proved up to the task, Karty was waived on Nov. 28 and signed to the practice squad as insurance before the Cardinals came calling.Ryland and Karty competed during offseason work and Karty was waived during the final week of OTAs on June 4.Special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial explained, “During Phase 2 and Phase 3, we get a lot of opportunities to kick with the team (and) by ourselves, so all that is getting evaluated and I believe Chad is doing a really good job. You see the leg strength, you see a proven guy that’s done it at a high level in this league. I’m really excited to work with Chad.“And with Josh, I got nothing but respect for Josh. He’s in a good mental space. He’s kicked the ball well and he’s truly a starting kicker in this league.”When asked why Ryland had issues with misses to the right last season, Ghobrial said, “Traditionally when righty kickers miss in general, you want to miss right. Usually, when they're missing left, they're overcompensating and they're hooking the ball too much. With Chad, I think the biggest thing that he focuses on is finishing downfield. When he finishes downfield, that ball goes straight online through the target. So, that has been a point of emphasis for him. We always give a player at least one or two things that they got to work on in the offseason, and he's been very intentional and deliberate to make certain that those things get fixed.“He has done a nice job. He treats a PAT like it's a 60-yarder; treats a 60-yarder like it's a PAT. Every kick is the same kick to him. So, I'm really pleased with him and his accuracy and how he's developed that and stays connected to the thing he had to get better at.”As for what “finishing downfield” means, Ghobrial said, “When a kicker finishes downfield, that means on impact. A lot of kickers, when they miss, tend to fall out of the kick. So, if this was the ball, when they make contact, they fall out of the kick as opposed to kick and finish downfield. Whether it's their target straight ahead, whether it's their target going right or their target going left, you want to see them finish downfield. Guys that kind of jam themselves almost force themselves to fall out of the kick at times, or if their plant step right before contact is too shallow or too deep, that could affect that as well.”Ghobrial added that “there's a lot of little intricacies before that even happens, but you can't give a kicker all those things. You give him one thing to focus on, one swing thought. Obviously, Chad has had a lot of success in this league. So, that's the only thing he really needs to understand and he does, so he's doing a good job with that.”As for the operation between the kicker, snapper and holder related to Gillikin’s absence for most of the 2025 season, Ghobrial said, “The synergy between the three of those guys is very important. That usually amounts to a successful operation and usually amounts to making kicks. Whenever you're changing the operation, it affects the kicker. Now, we deal with professionals, and it's our job as coaches, our job as players to be able to make certain that regardless of the situation, you find a way and you get it done.“But there are certain things that you got to learn and you got to learn it quick. Sometimes within a week and unfortunately that happened last year where those situations happened. It's part of being in this league. We're not going to make excuses, but we hope that we can stay healthy throughout the season and keep the same guys so we can keep that synergy going.”Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Falcons QB Michael Penix progressing on schedule in ACL rehab
Atlanta Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski says quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is hitting every milestone in his post-ACL surgery rehab.Penix Jr. missed organized team activities with a scheduled rest day on Monday.Stefanski didn't have an exact timetable for Penix's return, but he said the No. 8 pick in the 2024 draft out of Washington is getting closer to participation in 11-on-11 drills.“He’s hitting every milestone that he’s supposed to hit," Stefanski said. "Mike does have limitations based on his rehab, but he’s done a great job to date. I’ve been very impressed with what he’s able to do.” In two seasons with the Falcons, Penix made 12 starts and threw for 2,757 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He led the Falcons to a 3-6 record in 2025 before sustaining a season-ending ACL tear in November.Veteran Kirk Cousins stepped in and led the Falcons to a 5-4 record as a starter, including four consecutive wins to end the season. The Falcons signed former Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year deal in March after releasing Cousins with a post-June 1 designation.Stefanski says his staff is sparing no detail while assessing Tagovailoa and Penix.“When it comes to the quarterback position, you evaluate everything," he said. “It’s an all-encompassing evaluation."But not all drills should be weighed equally. In 7-on-7s, for instance, Stefanski says the offense should have a higher success rate. Training camp and preseason performances evaluations will carry more weight, though Penix's availability for both is not yet known.“We've been in constant communication with our medical team and Mike,” Stefanski said. “Not going to put any timeframes out there just yet, just going to focus on what's in front of us.” ___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

Kentucky DL Nicholas 'Happy' Smith dies at 20 years old
The University of Kentucky announced that redshirt freshman Nicholas "Happy" Smith has died at the age of 20. Kentucky did not release any details about the cause of death. Smith arrived at the University ahead of the 2025 season as a three-star recruit. He redshirted his true freshman year and had four years of eligibility left. The defensive tackle went to Walnut Grove High School in Loganville, Georgia, where he also played basketball. Smith opted to attend Kentucky over interest from both Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern. Kentucky head coach Will Stein discussed his players' passing. "Today our hearts are broken. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nic's family, friends, teammates and everyone who knew and loved him. This is a tremendous loss for our program and university community. We will continue to support one another and honor his memory."Smith was majoring in Community Leadership and Development. His player bio on the Wildcats' team roster page included that his dream job after playing in the NFL would be to start a food business. The defensive lineman often went by the nickname "Happy" which then turned into "Big Happ." Smith said that the best advice he had ever gotten was "you are what you believe."

Former foe analyzes Belal Muhammad’s mistakes against Gabriel Bonfim
Sean Brady saw some holes in Belal Muhammad’s game. Muhammad took on Gabriel Bonfim in a welterweight matchup in the main event at UFC Fight Night 278 on Saturday. Bonfim delivered a master class on the feet, never letting Muhammad get his wrestling game going. While “Remember the Name” put on a display of heart and chin, Bonfim beat him down for five rounds to earn the win by dominant unanimous decision. Muhammad’s former opponent Brady believes the former champ failed to use a few weapons at his disposal. Namely, when Bonfim kicked, Brady expected Muhammad to either catch the limb or counter it more effectively. Brady noted that Muhammad fought on his back foot for most of the fight, which significantly hampered his wrestling. However, Brady also gave the victor Bonfim credit for placing himself in the best place to win the fight. Brady said on the UFC post-fight show: “I think [Muhammad] could have worked on catching the kicks a lot more. Gabriel was throwing them low; he was throwing them to the body. So, I think that’s something that Belal could have scored some takedowns off of. If you watch my fight with Buckley, whenever someone kicks at me, I’m looking to catch a leg. And it’s usually one of the easiest ways to score takedowns… I think Belal also didn’t do himself any favors by getting backed up the whole time. It’s hard to shoot off your back foot, especially if you’re trying to be explosive with a double leg. If he had started to go forward, trying to catch those kicks, it would have did him wonders. But Gabriel did a good job of just not letting it happen.” Brady suffered his first professional loss against Muhammad via knockout in 2022. Brady then rebounded with a three-fight winning streak before falling short against Michael Morales at UFC 322 last year. Brady has since returned to the win column with a dominant decision over Joaquin Buckley in May. Brady revealed that he has already been studying Bonfim as he thought they could be on a collision course. Brady will be open to fighting “Marretinha” if he can break into the top five at welterweight after his win over Muhammad.

Federal judge blocks Trump administration’s plan to send 14 trans women to men’s prisons
A federal court blocked the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) from transferring 14 transgender women from women’s prisons to men’s prisons, saying that doing so puts the women in danger. The ruling, which came down on Sunday, is in Doe v. Blanche, a legal challenge to the president’s stance that the government should classify all people based on their sex assigned at birth and not take their gender into account, even in situations where a person can be put in danger. Related Federal Bureau of Prisons says no to “radical” trans inclusive policies U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth in D.C. issued a temporary injunction blocking the transfer of the women to men’s prisons, noting that they were placed in women’s prisons in the first place for their safety and that transferring them to a men’s prison would be “marking the transferee as a target.” “This decision reaffirms a bedrock constitutional principle: the government cannot knowingly place people in grave danger and simply look the other way,” said Shannon Minter, legal director of the National Center for LGBTQ Rights. “Officials are not free to ignore documented risks of rape and violence because of who someone is,” Minter added. “These women have the right to serve their sentences without being subjected to assault, and the court has rightly held that the law requires the government to assess and respond to the real dangers they face—not look the other way.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In January 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring the federal government to only acknowledge people’s sex assigned at birth, not their gender. Soon after, the BOP implemented this policy; transferring trans women housed in women’s prisons to men’s prisons was a part of that implementation. Judge Lamberth, a Ronald Reagan appointee, blocked that plan last year, noting that sending trans women to men’s prisons “would substantially increase the likelihood of them experiencing this parade of harms.” Putting them in men’s prisons, he ruled, would constitute “cruel and unusual punishment” for the trans women. But his injunction was overturned by a federal appeals court a year later, which ruled that Judge Lamberth did not arrive at his injunction using the correct reasoning. The case was then sent back to him “to make the factual determinations needed to hold, as plaintiffs urge, that the distinctive characteristics of these individuals in particular render their transfer to men’s facilities unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment.” Judge Lamberth’s ruling this Sunday looks at these trans women individually and determines that they would face a risk of danger if transferred. He noted that many of the plaintiffs have “undergone years of hormone therapy and, in several cases, extensive feminizing surgeries” that would put them at “risk of sexual violence because of their feminine features.” Lamberth notes that the Trump administration argued that the women would start to appear more masculine because the prison system is also taking away their hormone therapy, but the judge noted that that policy is also being blocked by another court, so he can’t take that into account. Lamberth then discussed several experts’ testimony that the violence trans women face in men’s prisons is “well understood within the field of corrections and is not meaningfully disputed among practitioners responsible for classification, housing, or PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) compliance.” One expert testified that “distinct harms flow specifically from transferring transgender women from women’s to men’s prisons. The experience of such transfers is categorically different from the baseline experience of transgender women who have never left men’s prisons because the transfer increases vulnerability to victimization by marking the transferee as a target and causes severe disorientation for transgender women accustomed to the norms of women’s facilities.” The judge also noted that transferring the women to men’s prisons would exacerbate their gender dysphoria, which increases the “risk of self-harm or suicidality, especially for those who have been victims of sexual assault or who have no prior experience in men’s facilities.” “This ruling could not be more consequential,” said GLAD Law Senior Director of Transgender and Queer Rights Jennifer Levi. “The women protected by this order face the most horrific consequences imaginable if transferred: violence, sexual assault, and grave harm to their physical safety and well-being.” “This case sits at the center of some of the most brutal attacks this administration has launched against a vulnerable group of transgender people who are among those least able to protect themselves,” Levi continued. “These women are serving their time and do not deserve the double punishment of knowingly putting them in grave danger. Deliberately placing vulnerable people in harm’s way is not strength, it’s cowardice.” Lamberth’s ruling only applies to the 14 trans women involved in the lawsuit. Warriors-Wizards trade pitch sends rarely available $186 million ex-Lakers star to Golden State
Warriors-Wizards trade pitch sends rarely available $186 million ex-Lakers star to Golden State originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. Are the Golden State Warriors desperate to find an elite co-star for Stephen Curry in 2026-27?Absolutely, but will they be willing to go so far as to target rarely available contributors who are only dominant for short periods due to injuries? Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley thinks so, even taking the time to construct a blockbuster Warriors-Washington Wizards trade idea that would land Golden State a former Los Angeles Lakers superstar.“The Warriors seemingly don't have the stomach to place an all-in wager on Giannis Antetokounmpo—which, frankly, might not be enough to get him, anyway—but how about a half-in gamble on (Anthony) Davis,” Buckley wrote Saturday.“They need the kind of size, strength, and interior protection he'd provide. Plus, he might be the perfect recruiter to grant their LeBron James wish in free agency.”“A core featuring Davis, James, Steph Curry and Draymond Green would be ancient and riddled with availability risks, but it feels like that description will fit the Dubs regardless who they add to this roster. If they could just get everyone to the finish line, though, they'd be a terrifying playoff matchup or even a shadow contender for the crown.”Buckley’s trade proposal would send the No. 11 pick, Jimmy Butler, and a 2030 first-round pick swap (21-30 protected) to the Wizards for Davis. Pairing Curry with arguably the biggest wild card on the trade market is unlikely to pay dividends for the championship-craving Western Conference franchise. Davis contributed 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game with the Dallas Mavericks and Wizards this season. The problem? The Kentucky product was more of a spectator than an active NBA contributor, appearing in only 20 total contests. Davis’ health concerns date back to his eventful stint with the Lakers, as it reached a point where Los Angeles’ fan base felt the need to hold their breath every time the 10-time All-Star hit the deck. If the Warriors were wise, they would prioritize acquiring Davis this summer.More NBA news:Lakers linked to Dalton Knecht-centered trade for $15 million All-Rookie centerLakers rumor is good news for Luka Doncic, bad news for LeBron JamesLakers predicted to cut ties with Dalton Knecht, acquire $175 million two-time MVP

Dodgers trade prediction lands Mets' $15M ace, 2-time All-Star as Tigers' Tarik Skubal backup plan
Dodgers trade prediction lands Mets' $15M ace, 2-time All-Star as Tigers' Tarik Skubal backup plan originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Los Angeles Dodgers have found their groove again after losing some momentum during May. They have started finding ways to win despite injuries to key players such as Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. With the trade deadline just two months away, the Dodgers are already looking ahead at potential additions. One name that continues to be linked to Los Angeles is Tarik Skubal.“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote. With so many teams expected to pursue Skubal, there is no guarantee the Dodgers will be able to land him. If they miss out, Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly believes Los Angeles could turn its attention to Freddy Peralta.“But surely, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman isn't going to rest on his laurels as the Dodgers attempt to become the first team since the 1998-2000 Yankees to win it all three years in a row. As much as no one wants to hear it, the Dodgers also can't be ruled out for a major rental starting pitcher like Peralta,” Kelly wrote.Peralta would be a strong addition for the Dodgers, and if the team decides it wants to keep him beyond this season, he has reportedly made his contract expectations known.“Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that people familiar with Peralta's thought process believe he is seeking a long-term deal similar to the one Max Fried got from the New York Yankees a few years ago. Fried, the Yankees' top free agent pivot after Juan Soto went to the Mets, got an eight-year deal worth $218 million,” SI’s Mike Phillips wrote.Peralta is a former National League wins leader, which highlights the type of impact he can have atop a rotation. The Dodgers are in need of another frontline starter, and Peralta fits that description. If Los Angeles only wants him as a rental for this season, he is owed a little more than $15 million. The Dodgers are chasing their third consecutive World Series title, and adding a pitcher like Peralta would certainly strengthen those championship aspirations.More MLB news:Phillies predicted to trade Justin Crawford, top prospects for $426M Angels' 9-time Silver SluggerDodgers linked to $32M 2-time Cy Young winner after Tyler Glasnow unfortunate injury updateBraves' Didier Fuentes earns first career save after future Hall of Famer calls him a secret weaponPhillies linked to $32M 2-time Cy Young winner to form elite rotation with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola

NBA, NHL Title Series Continue Delivering Big Audiences for ABC
ABC and parent company Disney are extending their massive viewership run through the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Final, posting another bullish result Monday while the trend is expected to continue on Tuesday. The network said Monday that Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Hurricanes and Golden Knights, meanwhile, averaged 4.7 million viewers, up 88% from the comparable game last year on TNT Sports and up 33% from Game 2 of the event two years ago on ABC. The latest result represents the most-watched Stanley Cup Final Game 2 since a Blackhawks-Lightning clash in 2015—long before the acceleration of the cord-cutting wave that has upended the entire media industry. With 4.8 million viewers for Game 1 of the series, the 2026 Stanley Cup Final through these first two games is up 93% from a year ago, and also the best result so far in 11 years. It also extends a wave of viewership growth throughout the NHL’s postseason this year and is expanding the league’s ambitions for its next set of U.S. rights agreements. Watching the ScoresA similarly robust wave of growth is expected Tuesday when the network reports viewership for Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs. That series averaged 16.9 million viewers for Game 1 last Wednesday, up 90% from a year ago, and the most-watched NBA Finals opener since 2018. On top of rising fan interest in both events, the two title series have not lacked for drama. With Saturday’s Game 3, the opening trio of Stanley Cup Final games has each been decided by a single goal, two have gone into overtime, and that third game went into double overtime as Vegas won to claim a 2–1 series lead.Though the Knicks hold a commanding 2–0 NBA Finals lead, both of the wins have required comebacks from double-digit road deficits as New York has notably held San Antonio superstar Victor Wembanyama in check.“[Knicks center] Karl-Anthony Towns is kicking Wembanyama’s ass in this series, and it’s absolutely the difference in what’s going on right now,” said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on First Take on Monday. ABC had a back-and-forth programming run last week with the Stanley Cup and NHL Finals, with a game from one of the two each night between Tuesday and Saturday. That will continue beginning with Monday’s Game 3 of the NBA Finals, and continue nightly this week through Thursday. Corporate ConsiderationsFor Disney, the two championship series represent a solid, and perhaps needed, dose of good news. ESPN, the sister network of ABC that is aiding with the coverage in each series, is bracing for another wave of layoffs. Disney’s stock, meanwhile, is down about 9% in the last month, and nearly 12% for the year to date as it continues its transition under new CEO Josh D’Amaro. He has the sort of length on the edge that teams value. When he gets his arms extended, he can keep blockers off his legs and use his strength to shed blocks and get to the ball carrier. He moves well for a defensive end and isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty; he played defensive end and right guard as a senior for Downers Grove. Needless to say, he’s not an end that shies away from contact.I doubt you see much of Aiden this season; he’s most likely headed for a redshirt. If the new eligibility rules get rid of redshirts, it’s possible you’ll see him on a kick-block team where he can try to utilize his long arms. Either way, he’s someone to keep an eye on moving forward. I like his overall physical package; if he figures out the Odom / Kane defense, he could be in line for playing time starting next season.

Cincinnatus denies H-D in eighth inning
HEUVELTON — Both Hermon-DeKalb and undefeated Section 3 Champion Cincinnatus were both one pitch away from defeat in the bottom of the seventh inning of Friday’s New York State Class D Regional Softball Championship Game at Heuvelton Central School. The game went to the eighth inning tied at 1-1 and 17-0 Cincinatus struck for three runs and secured a 4-1 victory and their school’s first ever New York State Final Fourth berth in softball. The Lions will play in the state semi-finals on Friday.Section 10 Class C Champion St. Lawrence Central also earned a Final Fourth berth for the final season of Tim Brown’s highly successful tenure at SLC with a 2-1 win over McGraw. Brown will retire as a teacher in the school system at the end of the school year and has indicated that he will also complete his coaching career.Battling a sudden onset of control problems in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lions’ pitcher Peyton Gerrard, who used a nasty riser as her out pitch in a 15 strikeout three-hitter, protected a 1-0 lead before Emrie VanBrocklin stroked a two-out single. The Green Demons (13-5) then drew three walks and Maya Green walked on a 3-2 pitch to score pinch-runner Reagan Moulton with the tying run.Gerrard then faced another bases-loaded 3-2 pitch against Peyton Dusharm who hit a line drive that was snagged by Hannan Ellerson at third base. The Lions picked a perfect time for their best inning of the game in the eighth. Number nine hitter Lydia Scott led off with a single. Gerrard walked and Madison Stover singled to load the bases. Naveah Billings broke the tie with a one out sacrifice fly and Ellerson followed with a two-out two-run single.Presented with a second opportunity to close out the game, Gerrard coolly retired the side after Peyton Wright stroked her second single of the game.“We had never won a sectional title in softball until this year. We have played extra innings this season I knew we would come through,” said Cincinnatus Coach Mikayla Gates in the middle of a wild celebration by the Lions players, coaches and fans.H-D’s pitching tandem of Green and Lauren Bishop both quelled Lion threats and combined for eighth strikeouts.“It was a great softball game. Our pitchers threw well and the outfield played great defense,” said H-D Coach Bob Bice. “Their pitcher was tough to hit because she had a good riser. We haven’t seen a riseball like that all season but we had our chance at the end. We will have both of our pitchers back in a good group of returning players. The NAC West should be another great league.“The Green Demons’ two-out rally in the seventh inning erased a 1-0 lead created in the top of the fourth inning. Billings doubled and Brady Kemp plated her with a sacrifice fly. Billings singled and doubled in the game and Peyton Dusharm singled for H-D’s third hit.“

Braves predicted to part ways with underperforming $20M Gold Glove winner at the trade deadline
Braves predicted to part ways with underperforming $20M Gold Glove winner at the trade deadline originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Braves are sitting at 45 wins, by far the best record in baseball. Atlanta has achieved that success while battling injuries to several key players throughout the season.Ha-Seong Kim was one of the players sidelined at the beginning of the year. The Braves brought him back on a hefty contract after he showed signs of returning to form late last season.“Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is returning to the Atlanta Braves, agreeing Monday to a one-year, $20 million contract that addressed a major offseason priority for the team. Kim gets a $4 million raise. He had declined a $16 million player option that was in the two-year, $29 million contract he signed in February with Tampa Bay, a deal that paid him $13 million. The Braves announced the new deal with Kim on Monday night,” ESPN wrote.Since returning from injury, Kim has struggled to live up to expectations. 680 The Fan’s Chris Dimino believes Atlanta could soon be forced to make a difficult decision regarding its starting shortstop.“Sounds like the Braves may be approaching a crossroads with Ha-Seong Kim. The belief internally may still be there, but if this continues another couple weeks, it feels like a legitimate ‘what are we doing at shortstop?’ conversation is coming,” Dimino said. The solution could be simple for Atlanta: move on from Kim's contract. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman believes the Braves could ultimately trade him.“Kim wouldn’t be the centerpiece of any deal. But it doesn’t feel like he has a fit in Atlanta with both Mauricio Dubón and Jorge Mateo looking like better options at the shortstop position. Pairing Kim with a top pitching prospect and agreeing to pay the remaining portion of his $20 million salary to a middle infield-needy team could net a decent return,” Bowman wrote.Atlanta had high hopes for Kim after he caught fire during September following his arrival last season. However, he has yet to perform at the level expected of a player making $20 million. There is still time for Kim to prove himself, but if his struggles continue, the Braves may have little choice but to move on. Atlanta has received better production from Mauricio Dubón and Jorge Mateo, and Kim will need to play with greater urgency if he wants to remain part of the club’s long-term plans.More MLB news:Dodgers trade prediction lands Mets' $15M ace, 2-time All-Star as Tigers' Tarik Skubal backup planPhillies predicted to trade Justin Crawford, top prospects for $426M Angels' 9-time Silver SluggerDodgers linked to $32M 2-time Cy Young winner after Tyler Glasnow unfortunate injury updateBraves' Didier Fuentes earns first career save after future Hall of Famer calls him a secret weapon

Micah Parsons picking Caleb Williams as NFL’s best player is way too fishy
There are two irrefutable facts about the most recent episodes in the rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. The first is that the Bears, led by phenom quarterback Caleb Williams, flipped the NFL's oldest rivalry on its head with two straight dramatic comeback victories last season. One happened from down 16-6 late in the fourth quarter to basically win the NFC North division title, and one happened from down 21-3 at halftime of an NFC wild-card playoff game. The second is that those Bears wins happened without Micah Parsons in the Packers' lineup, who tore his ACL just before that first Chicago comeback victory. The Bears, of course, still could've won both games with Parsons playing. Their only loss to the Packers last year came down to the final possession at Lambeau Field. But there's no denying that a player as dynamic as Parsons inherently changes the texture of this matchup with his presence alone, particularly when it comes to attempting to limit a game-changing quarterback like Williams. Several months after the Bears eliminated the Parsons-less Packers from the postseason, it seems obvious that the pass-rusher doesn't have a short memory about how the Bears humiliated his Packers last year. AN UNSUBTLE TEASER: Micah Parsons' personal return timeline lines up with a Bears matchup. In a short teaser clip of this year's NFL Top 100 Players list, several prominent league stars give their short answer on the league's best player in 2026. When the video flashes to Parsons, he says "Iceman," referring to the fitting nickname bestowed upon Williams after the Bears' remarkable run of comeback victories last season. All I have to say is: Huh? Parsons, a rival player rostered on the Bears' biggest rival, thinks Williams is the NFL's best player after one good season? I get the vision about projecting Williams' future, who seems destined to take another leap in the second year of Ben Johnson's system, but that doesn't feel like what Parsons was doing here. I'm sorry, but something doesn't quite add up about this sentiment:NFL Top 100 Players of 2026... coming soon. 👀 pic.twitter.com/Bo0vGfnipP— NFL (@NFL) June 8, 2026To me, Parsons gassing Williams up to this degree feels like a play. Because c'mon. Does anyone who is considered a serious person think Williams is the NFL's best player at this point in time? I do think there's a possibility he earns that title over the next few years, or at least becomes a warranted name in that conversation, because he is plenty talented enough for that to happen. But the cache of individual and team success is not yet there for the Bears' third-year quarterback. Not even close. Parsons knows Williams embarrassed his Packers in two straight games when he wasn't playing. He also knows the Madden 27 cover boy is getting the glitz and glamor treatment as the first potential franchise quarterback one of the NFL's most popular teams has ever had. So, why not put another target on Williams' back? Why not try to ensure that Williams lets all the news clippings get to his head? Why not try to give himself and his Packers teammates extra motivation to exact vengeance on the quarterback and his team this coming season?Maybe Parsons really does think Williams is the NFL's best player. That, or he will have that reputation after 2026 concludes. After all, this "rivalry" stuff that fans care so much about sometimes fades into the background for high-level athletes who, when the dust settles, simply respect their peers' and competitors' games. Parsons showing admiration for an elite quarterback he has to try to slow down at least twice a year for the rest of his career isn't that crazy. But I don't buy it. Parsons is up to something with this glowing compliment for Williams. I just don't know what. All I'm sure of is that it's definitely nothing good for the Bears. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Micah Parsons picking Caleb Williams as NFL's best player is suspect

Insider Thinks It Would Be 'Surprise' If Christian Gonzalez Does Not Report To Camp
Insider Thinks It Would Be 'Surprise' If Christian Gonzalez Does Not Report To Camp originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New England Patriots start mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and Christian Gonzalez's attendance will be something to keep an eye on.Gonzalez is reportedly looking for a contract extension. and did not report to the team's voluntary OTAs. He is one of the best corners in the league, and the team has already expressed interest in an extension. However, no deal has been reached yet. Regardless, Patriots insider Mike Reiss thinks it would be surprising if Gonzalez did not report."The presence of cornerback Christian Gonzalez (contract) and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (trade rumors) are among the Patriots' notable camp storylines," wrote Reiss. "It would be a surprise if Gonzalez didn't report for camp, while Boutte told WBZ-TV reporter Aaron Parseghian that he will be there for Day 1 on Tuesday."Just because Gonzalez reports does not mean he will participate. If he is holding out for an extension, he may not feel comfortable risking injury. The longer extension talks drag out, the longer it may take Gonzalez to get on the field.Mike Vrabel was asked about a potential holdout last week and noted that he does not want to get into details. However, he did share that he expects Gonzalez to be at the mandatory minicamp and be ready for the season.“Well, I think that there’s, the contract is the business and the professional side of this,” said Vrabel in a Tuesday press conference. “The personal side, I don’t want to let anything interfere with that. I want Christian to be ready when he comes back. And I would imagine that he would be here next week. And, if he is, then we’ll coach him and be ready to move on and get him ready and get him ready to help us, and help himself. Contracts are part of professional sports. I understand that. But I also know that those should remain private. And, like any contract, you want to make sure (it’s) a negotiation that everybody feels like they get something out of it. And I’ll leave it at that.”More NFL: Kayshon Boutte Wants To Be With Patriots For 'Rest Of (His) Career' Amid Trade Rumors

India coach 'doesn't know' if Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have cleared fitness tests
India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Monday said he has not received confirmation on whether Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have cleared their fitness tests ahead of the ODI series against Afghanistan, but added that he has heard both players are doing well.Rohit and Hardik have been named in India's squad for the three-match ODI series, subject to clearance from fitness tests at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Hardik has been recovering from a back spasm, while Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during the IPL. Both players missed multiple matches during the tournament."I have honestly not got the news whether they have been cleared or not. But I'm sure they will be there. Whatever I heard, they are fine, but they, they have to go and do that fitness test or whatever the rule is," Kotak said when asked about the duo's fitness status.Kotak also outlined India's preparations for the ODI series. He said the ODI squad will assemble on Monday and Tuesday before a training session under lights on Wednesday. The team is scheduled to leave for Dharamsala on Thursday."But the ODI players will join, they'll join here, and day after tomorrow evening, there might be a light practice. So there might be a light practice session," Kotak added. The update came after India completed their one-off Test against Afghanistan inside three days in Mullanpur. After declaring at 564/8 in the first innings, India bowled Afghanistan out for 152 and enforced the follow-on. The visitors were then dismissed for 112 in their second innings as India secured their biggest victory in Test cricket history, winning by an innings and 300 runs.Debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar starred with figures of 6/33 in Afghanistan's first innings, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav shared seven wickets in the second innings.

How a Lucozade pouch is helping England’s stars to cope with the heat at the World Cup
England's national football team will use a new high-carbohydrate liquid pouch this summer, designed to help cope with the World Cup rigours this summer. The Football Association has meticulously prepared for the tournament's unique stresses, including travel, time zones, heat, and humidity in North America. This groundwork involved England’s performance nutritionists collaborating with sports drinks partner Lucozade’s research and development team to develop a product for hydration, fuelling, and recovery in North America. Lucozade Elite, a high-carbohydrate electrolyte solution, is being used by Thomas Tuchel’s side at the World Cup. It is not commercially available, having been exclusively developed for use by the national teams.Lucozade Elite (not pictured) is a high-carbohydrate electrolyte solution (Bradley Collyer/PA)England midfielder Jude Bellingham said: “Football is demanding enough on its own, but when you’re playing regularly and at the highest level, the small details become even more important.“Everything around preparation, hydration and fuelling has to be right so you can perform consistently throughout a game. The right preparation can make a big difference.”England have been in Florida since last Monday acclimatising to the heat and humidity during a warm weather training camp, which ends with Wednesday’s friendly against Costa Rica in Orlando.Harry Kane played down the impact the USA’s sweltering temperatures will have on England’s World Cup chances after they had their first proper run-out on American soil. The Three Lions played their first of two warm-up matches on Saturday evening, beating the World Cup’s lowest-ranked side New Zealand 1-0 – and while Tuchel was unhappy with some of the “freestyle” football shown in the first half against New Zealand, emerging unscathed from the patchwork pitch was a boost.Kane admitted the surface was “a bit sticky” as they were made to sweat in 33 degrees Celsius heat, but the skipper feels talk about the conditions have been overblown.“To be honest, I don’t think the heat’s been too bad,” the striker, who played at last year’s Club World Cup in America, added.“Obviously, we’ve been getting used to it in training. After the first couple of days, I felt like most of the lads were used to it.“Today actually didn’t feel terrible out there, so I think there’s a talking point that might get over spoke about, to be honest.“We’re all professional athletes. We all have done the right preparation to get ready for this tournament between us and the staff as well.“We have another 10 days or so until that first game, training in this environment, so I think come the tournament, it won’t be a factor.”Kane scored the winner against the All Whites, a sublime first-half header, to take his tally to 67 for the season for club and country.

Scarsdale's Jack Reis revels in NYS boys tennis singles title win
In 2025, Scarsdale’s Jack Reis took a year off from high school tennis. Now, he is a state champion.“A state title means a lot to me,” Reis said. “Obviously, the (Section 1) tournament was really big, but to compete on the state level and play against some really good players and win this thing, it definitely means a lot to me.”Two weeks after outlasting Briarcliff’s Charlie Martin in three sets to hoist the section trophy, Reis became a state champion with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ross School's Ignacio Pena Lopez in the state finals at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens on Sunday. “It’s a really cool experience to win where they play the U.S. Open and in front of people who are supporting me from all different parts of the state,” Reis said. While winning a state title is impressive enough as is, Reis did so having not played varsity tennis his junior year. Instead, he spent last season focusing on his academics and playing non-scholastic tournaments to boost his college recruitment. However, even with an intriguing academic and athletic future ahead for Reis, he missed out on a year of representing his high school last year. That only added to his desire to win in his final season. The byproduct: a commitment to continue playing collegiately at Amherst College in the fall. “It definitely added to the excitement because I missed it last year,” Reis said. “I was really excited to play this year. I was really motivated, it hyped me up a lot more and I was feeling more determined in matches.”Reis’ win on Sunday was much less dramatic than his marathon against Martin. It was decided in just two sets, and according to Reis, he did not have to deal with the constant leg cramping that plagued him in the section finals. But that did not take away from the feeling at the end, once he had summited in New York State boys’ singles tennis.“I was really happy,” Reis said. “The best feeling I felt was just being able to absorb the entire experience and really enjoy it.”Other state tournament participants from Section 1Reis was not the only Section 1 player to make the trip to Queens for the state tournament. By the end of the doubles bracket, Section 1 players occupied the No. 2, 4 and 5 spots.New Rochelle’s Alex Suhanitski and Fynn Bowman placed fifth, just behind Scarsdale’s Lucas Yao and Dylan Pai. The Section 1 doubles champions — Clarkstown South’s Pratik Nayak and Christopher Cho — finished as the state runner-ups. They fell in the state championship match to Ben Wiese and C.J. Jeff Teague on podcasting: I'm more of a documentary type of listener, I wasn't really into podcasts
“I wasn’t really into podcasting,” Teague says, leaning back, his demeanor completely detached from the typical self-promotional energy of the modern retired athlete. “I was really more of a documentary type listener. I wasn’t really a podcast listener. Like they said, they used to listen to Gillie and Wallo, and [Wells] put me on to them. He put me on to Joe Budden’s podcast a little bit, but I’m not really a podcast listener. Obviously, I watch clips of All the Smoke, Knuckleheads… I’ve seen those clips, but I’m not really a podcast listener.”ScoopB.comThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: Jeff Teague on podcasting: I'm more of a documentary type of listener, I wasn't really into podcasts

The second pillar of their code is an absolute refusal …
However, this aggressive honesty functions smoothly only because of the strict personal boundaries the crew establishes. The second pillar of their code is an absolute refusal to cross the line into a player’s private life. While traditional talking heads and clickbait blogs frequently exploit an athlete’s personal struggles, family dynamics, or off-the-court business for cheap engagement, the 520 family firmly establishes that a man’s personal life is strictly his own business. By keeping the critiques completely bound to the parameters of the basketball court, they protect their locker room currency and maintain deep, functional relationships with active players across the league.ScoopB.comThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: The second pillar of their code is an absolute refusal …

Netanyahu and Trump are at odds over the war they started together
President Donald Trump shakes hands with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the end of a news conference at Mar-a-Lago, Dec. 29, 2025, in Palm Beach, Fla. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon, File)2026-06-08T21:00:25Z JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s latest strikes on Lebanon and Iran have made clear that U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who started the war in lockstep, want different things. Trump had publicly warned Israel not to strike Beirut in its war with Iran-backed Hezbollah militants. When it did, on Sunday, Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at Israel for the first time since the April ceasefire. Israel then struck Iran, with which Trump has been engaged in weeks of high-stakes negotiations. The fighting has since died down, but the differences between the two leaders are likely to persist. That’s because Trump, whose party faces elections later this year, wants to wind down an unpopular war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to ease gas prices. Iran says a full ceasefire in Lebanon is key to any deal. Netanyahu, who also faces elections this year, is under pressure to stop Hezbollah’s attacks and prove that he is winning the war with Iran and its allies. He also needs to manage relations with Israel’s most important ally without appearing to kowtow to it. Political considerations push in opposite directionsWhen the United States and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28, the allies appeared shoulder to shoulder.Netanyahu said the goal was to degrade the Islamic Republic’s military, eradicate its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and topple its government. Trump announced the death of Iran’s supreme leader in the opening barrage and urged Iranians to “take back” their country. But it soon became clear that while Trump was seeking a quick win — like the one he secured in Venezuela — Netanyahu wanted to vanquish Iran and its allies, even if it required an extended conflict. As Iran withstood weeks of heavy strikes and kept the Strait of Hormuz closed, Americans and Israelis grew increasingly frustrated — but for different reasons. Read More In the U.S., the price of gas and other goods soared as even some erstwhile supporters accused Trump of breaking a campaign promise and plunging the U.S. into another Mideast quagmire. He has pushed back against those critics as rising anger threatens Republicans in November’s congressional elections. In Israel, anger grew over Netanyahu’s failure to secure a lasting victory in the wars sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack, which happened on his watch. More than two years on, Hamas still rules part of Gaza, Hezbollah still fires rockets and Iran’s government and nuclear program remain intact, despite heavy losses. Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon strains relationsThe collision course runs through Lebanon, where fighting still rages between Israel and Hezbollah despite ceasefire announcements.Iran wants Lebanon included in any wider regional truce, a demand Trump seems to have accepted in order to get a deal. Iran has threatened to attack Israel again if it keeps striking Lebanon.Israel is determined to keep the theaters separate and continue its campaign in Lebanon, where it has occupied large swaths of the south, until the threat from Hezbollah has been eliminated. The tensions spilled into the open last week, when Trump acknowledged holding a tense call with Netanyahu about Lebanon. He admitted to using expletives and calling the Israeli leader “crazy,” saying he’d grown frustrated that Israel’s war on Hezbollah threatened the Iran talks. In a series of interviews, Trump made clear that he was not happy about Israel’s Sunday strike in Beirut, which came without warning and hit a residential building, killing two people and wounding 20, according to Lebanese authorities. He then urged restraint from Israel after Iran launched its first barrage of missiles later that day. “I call all the shots,” not Netanyahu, Trump told the Financial Times.Hours later, Israel bombed Iran. Officials downplay differencesTrump had initially urged restraint in order to calm markets and keep negotiations from falling apart, according to a person familiar with the U.S.-Israel deliberations who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive conversations.Israeli officials made the counterargument that the U.S. would not tolerate attacks without a swift response. The person added that it was also understood by both sides that not responding to the Iranian strikes would put Netanyahu in a difficult position politically.Netanyahu has downplayed any perceived differences. After the latest strikes, he told reporters in Hebrew that “Israel has a full right to self-defense, and we are exercising it to the extent necessary.”“I say this to you, just as I say this, with appreciation and respect, in my good conversations with my friend, President Trump,” he added. It’s unclear if there will be lasting damageIt’s not the first time that Trump has been publicly at odds with Netanyahu about a military operation. In March, less than three weeks into the conflict, Trump was riled by Netanyahu’s decision to attack a critical Iranian gas field, which prompted Iran to retaliate against energy infrastructure in the Gulf.“I told him, ’Don’t do that,’” Trump said at the time. “We get along great. It’s coordinated, but on occasion he’ll do something.”While Trump publicly disagreed with the decision, two people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment publicly said the U.S. was made aware of Israel’s plans ahead of the attack. It’s unclear whether the latest dispute will cause lasting damage.“It’s not so uncommon for the U.S.-Israel relationship to have these kinds of tensions. What’s so different right now is how publicly it’s playing out,” said Michael Singh, managing director at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He noted that Trump has had similar public spats with other heads of state, including close allies.Eytan Gilboa, an expert on U.S.-Israel relations at Israel’s Bar-Ilan and Reichman universities, said he doubted the rift seriously threatened the alliance. He said Netanyahu had been careful not to push things too far.“If there was a big threat, like if Israel were to continue the war in Iran and drag the U.S. into it, that would have been a different situation,” he said. “But that is not happening.”He noted, though, that there are still “basic disagreements between Netanyahu and Trump on Iran, Lebanon and Gaza” that remain unanswered.___Madhani reported from Washington.
