THEONION.COMStudy: 97% Of Average AmericansDaySpent Retrieving6-Digit CodesCHICAGOShedding light on how technology increasingly shapes everyday life, a study published Thursday by the American Journal Of Sociologyrevealed that the average American dedicates 97% of theirdayto retrieving six-digit validation codes. Our findings suggest thatU.S. residentsspend roughly 23 hours eachdayor 160 hours every weekattempting to log in to online services, being told they need to check their phone for asix-digit code, and then entering that code into the website or app for verification, said lead researcher Andrew Singh, adding that manyAmericanshave to skip meals and forgo showering in order to find time to read and transfer over the hundreds of codes needed daily to access their medical records, work emails, and food delivery accounts. Theres likely a link here between mostAmericansonly getting 20 or 30 minutes of sleep each night and the amount of their lives now given over to frantically pressing Resend after they fail to receive a particular code, then receiving far too many codes and being unable to figureoutwhich one is still valid. Unfortunately, it seems this problem is only getting worse. Singh added that his study did not even factor in the many hours Americans spend standing up from their laptop and walking over to their phone after remembering they left it in the other room. The post Study: 97% Of Average AmericansDaySpent Retrieving6-Digit Codes appeared first on The Onion.0 Comments 0 Shares 8 Views 0 Reviews

THEONION.COMDad Spends Retirement Untangling Big Mess Of WiresWALNUT CREEK, CAExpressing relief that he finally had the free time to explore his interests and hobbies, local 64-year-old dad Peter Hopkins announced Thursday that he was spending his retirement untangling a big mess of wires. Ive been wanting to go through this stuff for ages, said the former account director, who reportedly paced back and forth to get a good visual on the jumbled mix of Ethernet cables, old phone chargers, and RCA connectors, noting that the task should keep his mind sharp and body active for a good 10 to 15 years at least. My plan is to start with the TV wires, then slowly work my way through the computer cords, until all thats left is the stuff I dont recognize. Looks like theres a good pair of USB headphones and a practically brand new VGA cable, too. Hopefully, I can get those loose within two or three years. At press time, Hopkins was said to have thrown the heap of wires to the floor and cursed, declaring he would get back to the task after a long nap.The post Dad Spends Retirement Untangling Big Mess Of Wires appeared first on The Onion.0 Comments 0 Shares 10 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGay makeup artist mocks right-wing bozos for using his photo to celebrate rugged masculinityA gay makeup artist has the internet in hysterics after pointing out that a far-right troll used an image of him for a meme trying to celebrate conventional masculinity. Some of you will remember the idiotic far right stole an image of me to make a meme for them, Anthony Gordon recently wrote on Threads. What they dont know is Im a far left gay liberal man lol. Bozos! Related Why do straight guys have sex with men? For straight men who have sex with men, same-sex encounters arent about romance or sexual attraction, but about psychological and physiological arousal. The meme depicts a photo of Gordon, who has large muscles and appears to be a fitness guru based on his social media. The overlaying text declares, Remember Boys, They keep calling us Far-Right When in reality we have been Right-So-Far.' I feel its important that we share our story as a throuple. I think well be seeing a lot more polys in the near future, as baby boomers get older and realize we all need to take care of each other.Between his artistic side and his love for fitness, Gordon is exactly the type of man conservatives decry, one who cant be siloed by the traditionally masculine or feminine. His personal social media accounts depict him showing off his masculine body and love of fitness. Meanwhile, his professional page displays his work on the faces of celebrities like Leighton Meester and Paris Jackson. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anthony (@surfbearla)Gordons followers found the trolls mistake wildly entertaining, with many pointing out that the far-right often co-opts pieces of queer culture without realizing it, such as the presidents obession with YMCA, a song pivotal to queer culture. At least they revealed they find you the picture of masculinity! one user responded on Gordons post. Another joked that the far-right is a gaggle of closeted, thirsty, bear hunters. A third user boiled it down to simply calling them mind numbingly stupid while another said, The irony is delicious. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anthony Gordon (@themakeupmanofficial)The far-right has long been obsessed with perpetuating stereotypical forms of masculinity to the point of absurdity. While campaigning, the president and vice president positioned themselves as strongman candidates who will protect women by upholding conservative gender roles. The entire right, it seems, has exploded with denigrations of so-called beta males and praise for traditional versions of alpha males.Fox host Jesse Watters is a consistent perpetrator of this messaging, having once railed against former President Joe Biden for eating ice cream in public because it is not manly. Another time, he ranted about Biden drinking with a straw in public.Joe Biden used a straw, Watters said at the time. I recommend that all men refrain from using straws. Its unbecoming, the way a mans lips purse, the size of the straws is too dainty, the way your fingers clasp on it, no, come on. In April, a group of Fox News contributors defended the presidents tariffs by saying theywill force American citizens out of white-collar jobs in research and engineering and into blue-collar factory and agricultural jobs, thereby making American men more masculine since being a factory worker is more masculine than being a scientist.Last year, anti-LGBTQ+ radio host and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk called Barack Obama a low testosterone soy boy after the former president appeared in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to support Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.Kirk said Obamas speech was the most femboy, effeminate, low testosterone, soy boy approach on how to talk to men. You talk to men like you do in a football locker room, direct. You challenge them. You tell them what they ought to do, Kirk continued. You talk about duty. You talk about honor. You talk about the pursuit of greatness. He talks to them as if they are in a group therapy session with a bunch of middle-aged drug-addicted women.Kirk also claimed no real man should vote for Harris because she hates you, her agenda will belittle you, will disempower you. He also added that Obama is not exactly a great example of an American strong man.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 6 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMConservatives thought marriage equality would turn kids gay. Heres what really happened.Perhaps one of the scariest (for conservatives) predictions made about marriage equality pre-Obergefell was that children would be taught that it exists. And were still litigating that fear today. An ad that got a lot of attention in the 2000s was in support of Californias 2008 ballot measure, Prop 8, to ban same-sex marriage. The ad, entitled Its already happened, showed a little girl telling her mother: Mom, guess what I learned in school today! I learned how a prince married a prince, and I can marry a princess! Related Major evangelical predicted that marriage equality would cause fathers to marry their daughters Two decades ago, people believed that marriage equality would erase all taboos around sexuality. It didnt happen. A bald man in a boxy suit appeared and said, Think it cant happen? Its already happened. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Some elementary schools have acquired books depicting families with same-sex couples, middle schools have taught students not to use anti-gay slurs, and high schools have sanctioned gay-straight alliance clubs, NBC News wrote in an article about the ad at the time. And school districts have been found liable for not taking steps to prevent anti-gay harassment.Horrifying! For LGBTQ Nations June Issue about the 10th anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalized marriage equality in all 50 states, were looking back at some of the predictions conservatives made about marriage equality before it was legalized. Most of them didnt come true. Letting same-sex couples marry didnt result in legalized father-daughter marriages. Pastors werent thrown in jail for refusing to officiate weddings for same-sex couples. Same-sex marriage didnt cause straight couples to get divorced because their marriages werent special anymore, and it didnt encourage people to marry animals. But this one seems especially relevant in light of a recent Supreme Court decision, the one in Mahmoud v. Taylor from just this past June, where the Court ruled in favor of a group of parents who didnt want their kids to read books with LGBTQ+ characters. The decision, which was supported by the six Republican-appointed justices and opposed by the three Democratic-appointed justices, said that parents had a right to opt their kids out of reading books with LGBTQ+ characters because such books unmistakably convey a particular viewpoint about same-sex marriage and gender, Justice Samuel Alito wrote. The ruling follows several states that passed laws banning teachers from discussing LGBTQ+ people in class and banning libraries from stocking books that include LGBTQ+ characters. In the dissenting opinion, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote about the importance of learning that different kinds of people exist. Casting aside longstanding precedent, the Court invents a constitutional right to avoid exposure to subtle themes contrary to the religious principles that parents wish to instill in their children, she wrote. Exposing students to the message that LGBTQ people exist, and that their loved ones may celebrate their marriages and life events, the majority says, is enough to trigger the most demanding form of judicial scrutiny.Of course, thats not really dealing with the issue at hand, probably because many people cant even fathom what the real issue is. After all, its only being discussed indirectly, in subtext. LGBTQ+ people exist, kids are going to learn about them one day, why not learn about them in school? How does learning about two men or two women marrying present a particular viewpoint any more than learning that any other thing exists presents a controversial viewpoint? Theres no other minority group that conservatives believe parents have a right to prevent their kids from hearing about. But the important thing in the Prop 8 ad isnt that the little girl read a book about a prince marrying a prince, its what she says right after, that she learned that I can marry a princess. That is, the book turned her gay. That might seem absurd to a lot of readers of this website that there are still American adults who believe that books can turn kids gay, but surveys show that its not even a particularly rare belief. Thirty-eight percent of Americans, a Gallup Poll from this past May found, believe that being gay is entirely caused by ones upbringing and environment, and another eight percent believe that its at least partly caused by upbringing and environment. Those are the same numbers that Gallup found in 2008 they havent changed in nearly two decades. This belief has to do with how conservatives cant really understand that gay and bi people are different people with different identities and desires from straight people. They instead believe that everyone is pretty much the same and that some people, for whatever reason, just decide to have a relationship with someone of the same sex. Its a fundamental lack of imagination, an inability to understand that other people might have completely different experiences that theyre not familiar with. In that sense, the issue of marriage equality was never about the institution of marriage per se. It was always about how much respect LGBTQ+ people should get. Peoples support for same-sex marriage was largely based on how OK they were with the fact that gay people exist. Marriage itself is about honoring and celebrating the relationships that people form, making them concrete under the law and granting them certain rights that other relationships do not receive. Its about getting respect from others and recognition from society, as represented by the government. And if the state shows that kind of respect to gay people, then conservatives wonder whats to stop kids from turning gay? Justice Alito said that allowing gay people to get married is itself a viewpoint for this reason: It shows that society values same-sex and opposite-sex relationships the same, and people often look to society in general when forming their own opinions on who belongs in society and who doesnt. Did this prediction come true? That schools would be more likely to teach about gay people if theyre treated more equally under the law? In the most direct sense, yes. Seven states have passed laws requiring schools to include affirming representations of LGBTQ+ people in some form. School districts in other states have decided to teach kids about LGBTQ+ people as a way to fight anti-queer bullying. And its a topic that likely comes up in many classrooms as kids raised by same-sex couples talk about their families or LGBTQ+ teachers mention their spouses. But the real prediction, the subtext that kids will turn gay because marriage equality was legalized simply cant come true because thats not how being gay works. On the other hand, more people have been coming out in recent years because of increasing acceptance of LGBTQ+ people, and anti-LGBTQ+ advocates dont draw many distinctions between fewer people being LGBTQ+ and fewer people feeling safe enough to say that theyre LGBTQ+.Perhaps the little girl in the Prop 8 ad was gay, and reading that book made her realize that she didnt have to hate herself, that she could live a happy life with a princess one day. If thats the case, then its good that California eventually legalized same-sex marriage so she had the opportunity to read that book.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 6 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMFTC hosts anti-trans workshop LGBTQ+ advocates call government-sponsored disinformationThe Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday held a workshop that public health experts and LGBTQ+ advocates condemned as a government-sponsored disinformation campaign, bringing together a lineup of anti-trans activists, attorneys, and right-wing medical professionals to attack gender-affirming care for transgender youth.FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson framed the event as an investigation into potential fraud and deception in medical treatment, just weeks after the U.S. Supreme Courts landmark U.S. v. Skrmetti ruling upheld Tennessees ban on gender-affirming care for minors. That decision, which civil rights groups have called a devastating blow, opened the door for more than two dozen states to enforce similar prohibitions on puberty blockers and hormone therapy, despite decades of medical consensus supporting such care as safe and effective.Ferguson, who previously served as chief counsel to former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and as Virginias solicitor general, opened the workshop with a blistering critique of the Biden administration and gender-affirming care providers. He alleged that the administration pressured the World Professional Association for Transgender Health to remove age minimums for hormones and surgeries from its guidelines to avoid fueling legislative bans. Science was beside the point, Ferguson said. They cared about politics. They didnt care about people.Related: Trump signs executive order banning federal support of gender-affirming care for anyone under 19Describing gender-affirming care as rife with modern snake oil salesmen, Ferguson claimed that families were being lured by the promise of a fail-safe cure for mental health problems while being kept in the dark about the permanent and irreversible effects of medical transitioning. He recounted emotionally charged stories from individuals who regret their transitions, saying, These are not stories of liberation but of desperation. All major medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the Endocrine Society, and the American Psychiatric Association, broadly endorse gender-affirming care, including for minors, as evidence-based and effective.Ferguson declared it the FTCs duty to investigate claims around gender-affirming care. We are here to ensure that everyone can make an informed choice about their own path to healing without fear of being deceived by those who stand to profit from certain medical interventions, he said. Americans have a right to health claims substantiated by reliable scientific evidence no matter how politically charged.Dr. Rachel Levine, who served as assistant secretary for health during the Biden administration and is the highest-ranking out transgender federal official in U.S. history, told our sister brand The Advocate that the workshop was the product of the Project 2025 playbook developed by conservative think tanks like the Heritage Foundation to systematically target transgender people after losing the fight over marriage equality. It has been made a political and ideological issue, she said, emphasizing that the evidence base is strong for the safety and efficacy of these treatments, while also noting that, as with all areas of medicine, research should continue to evolve.Related: U.S. Senate parliamentarian blocks GOPs plan to ban gender-affirming care under MedicaidDuring the workshop, Dr. Michael Laidlaw, a California endocrinologist who has testified repeatedly in favor of banning gender-affirming care, declared during his presentation that he has been a longtime member of the Endocrine Society but disagrees with its position on gender-affirming health care. Levine, who did not watch the presentation, responded to reports of it. He said that hes been with the Endocrine Society for many years, and on those 400 other issues, he thinks they get it right, but on this issue, they dont, Levine said. It doesnt make any sense to say, Oh, I would absolutely take my child to DC Childrens for diabetes, but if I saw the same endocrinologist for gender care, theyre wrong.Conservatives at the FTC workshop repeatedly named Levine, accusing her of pressuring WPATH in 2024 to remove age requirements from its updated standards of care for political reasons. Levine rejected those claims outright. Ive never considered myself political. Ive always been involved with medicine and public health, she told The Advocate. Levine explained that WPATH publicly circulated a draft of its guidelines and solicited feedback, to which her office submitted comments like any other entity. "We gave a comment. Many different organizations put out comments, and we did too, she said. The workshop featured a slate of speakers who have built their public profiles attacking transgender peoples health care, including psychiatrist Miriam Grossman, activist Erin Friday of Genspect, and Jamie Reed, a former gender clinic employee whose widely publicized allegations have been heavily disputed by medical experts.Related: Montana court strikes down ban on gender-affirming care for trans minorsLGBTQ+ advocates were quick to point out that the event appeared designed to amplify discredited narratives rather than to examine evidence. Kellan Baker, executive director of the Institute for Health Research and Policy at Whitman-Walker, said the FTC had grossly violated its mandate by hosting what he described as a political rally dressed up as a government agency. This is the marshaling of pseudoscience and disinformation to advance a political agenda, Baker told The Advocate. It does not actually feature the voices of transgender young people, their families, or the health care providers who care for them.Baker noted that regret among people who receive gender-affirming care is exceptionally low, hovering around 1 to 3 percent, citing published research showing that most young people continue care and experience improvements in mental health. Yet we see a tiny group of detransitioners going from congressional hearings to FTC events to other anti-trans venues, funded to push these narratives, he said.Baker said he and other health policy experts, medical professionals, and trans advocates are organizing a counter-programming event on Thursday intended to correct the record. Unlike the FTCs workshop, he said, Thursdays forum will feature the voices of medical experts, parents, and transgender young people themselves, the people whose lives are actually affected by these policies.Even as anti-trans narratives echoed in Washington, new research continued to undercut the claims presented at the FTC event. In Utah, Republican lawmakers who banned gender-affirming care for minors in 2023 demanded evidence that such treatment benefits trans youth. That evidence has now arrived, and lawmakers are ignoring it.As The Advocate reported in May, a sweeping, 1,000-page report commissioned by the Utah legislature and released in May found that gender-affirming care significantly improves mental health outcomes for trans youth, including reduced rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Conducted by the University of Utahs Drug Regimen Review Center, the report concluded that the scientific evidence supporting gender-affirming hormone therapy far exceeds the level required for FDA approval of other pediatric treatments.Related: Utah Republicans ignore study supporting gender-affirming care for trans youth. It's research they demandedResearchers found that regret was virtually nonexistent among trans youth who received care, directly contradicting the anecdotes spotlighted by anti-trans activists at the FTC workshop.Levine called the Utah findings incredibly important, telling The Advocate: This report confirms what major medical organizations and providers have known for decades: that gender-affirming care is safe, effective, and medically necessary for many youth. It demolishes the misinformation that continues to be pushed in events like this FTC workshop. The science is there. The question is whether politicians will accept it.The Trump administrations approach to gender-affirming care is starkly illustrated on federal websites. Following a court order requiring restoration of HHS informational pages about transgender health, the departments Office of Population Affairs now hosts a page that carries a blunt disclaimer from the administration.Per a court order, HHS is required to restore this document Any information on this page promoting gender ideology is extremely inaccurate, and disconnected from the immutable biological reality that there are two sexes, male and female, the disclaimer reads. The Trump Administration rejects gender ideology and condemns the harms it causes to children, by promoting their chemical and surgical mutilation, and to women, by depriving them of their dignity, safety, well-being, and opportunities. This page does not reflect biological reality and therefore the Administration and this Department rejects it.Related: Iowa bans Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care for adultsYet the same HHS document, in its substantive content, continues to explain that gender-affirming care is a supportive form of healthcare and that research demonstrates such care improves the mental health and overall well-being of gender diverse children and adolescents. The page outlines evidence that gender-affirming interventions, including social transition, puberty blockers, and hormone therapy, are associated with lower rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide among transgender youth, and emphasizes the critical role of family and community support. The science still supports gender-affirming care, American Academy of Pediatrics president Dr. Susan Kressly said in a statement after the Skrmetti decision. Children will still need it.As LGBTQ+ advocates brace for further policy assaults, Levine said she remains extremely realistic about how challenging the present is but insisted the movement would endure. We have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, she said. And continue the work. The FTC did not respond to a request for comment from The Advocate.0 Comments 0 Shares 4 Views 0 Reviews

THEONION.COMSomething Forbidden Stirs Deep Within Trump After He Sees Political Cartoon Depicting Him As ChickenWASHINGTONA warm rush pulsing through his body as he stared at the clean white feathers that covered the rendering of his body, something forbidden reportedly stirred deep within President Donald Trump on Thursday after he saw a political cartoon depicting him as a chicken. White House sources confirmed that Trump barked, Out, everybody out, to a group of advisers in the Oval Office when the sight of his face on a cartoon chicken caused him to stop ranting about tariffs on China and break into a cold sweat, after which he stared silently at himself in the mirror for several minutes. The president is said to have whispered to himself about how proud and striking the chicken appeared, and he slowly ran his hands over his arms and closed his eyes, letting out a hushed bawk, bawk behind his closed office door. According to reports, Trump has since ordered the Department of Agriculture to find out how to cover every inch of his body in chicken feathers, providing at least a dozen theoretical mock-ups of what he might look like. The post Something Forbidden Stirs Deep Within Trump After He Sees Political Cartoon Depicting Him As Chicken appeared first on The Onion.0 Comments 0 Shares 9 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMDonald Trump names absurd Hooters-loving alpha male supporter as ambassador to MalaysiaNick Adams, the rightwing influencer who many people thought was a parody account because his alpha male persona is so over the top, has been named U.S. ambassador to Malaysia. Adams is known for his presence on X, where he writes about how much he loves Hooters and hanging out with men. His name on the site was (for some time) literally Nick Adams (Alpha Male). Related Conservatives are outraged that Joker gets pregnant in latest Batman comic Tellingly, right-wingers were totally okay when The Joker sexually tortured a woman. But a pregnant Joker? Unacceptable. I am an alpha male, he wrote in one infamous post, where he then listed out his alpha male activities. I prefer the company of other men. I dine at Hooters 4-6x per week. I spend ample time in the hot tub with the boys. I have no intention of apologizing. For any of it. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMAnderson Cooper explains how Kristi Noem may be responsible for delayed response to Texas floodsFour officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told CNN that the federal response to the devastating Texas floods was slowed by a Trump administration rule requiring cost approval from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. The sources told CNN that Noem now needs to approve any expenditure anticipated to cost over $100,000. Now, additionally, multiple FEMA officials say that they were taken aback by the agencys relatively limited response in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. The rule makes it impossible for the agency to work as it once did, they said. Wewereoperating under a clear set of guidance: lean forward, be prepared, anticipate what the state needs, and be ready to deliver it, one official explained. That is not as clear of an intent for us at the moment. The Trump administration has disputed these claims with a focus on tooting its own horn rather than on alleviating the suffering going on in Texas. In a reply to an X post from the senior digital editor for Meidas Touch that showed a clip of Cooper talking about Noems budget limitations, the official account of the Department of Homeland Security wrote, This is a FAKE NEWS LIE from CNN. This reporting is an unapparelled [SIC] display of activist journalism and distracts from the robust, coordinated federal response led by Secretary Noem that has saved over 900+ lives. While these journalists slept comfortably in D.C., Secretary Noem deployed to Texas, working day and night to approve every possible need that search and rescue workers had. Within moments of the flooding in Texas, DHS assets, including the U.S. Coast Guard, tactical Border Patrol units and FEMA personnel surged into unprecedented action alongside Texas first responders. The U.S. Coast Guard alone rescued over 230 Americans. The post claimed Noem is leading a historic, first-of-its-kind approach to disaster funding: putting states first by providing upfront recovery support moving money faster than ever and jump starting recovery. While these journalists slept comfortably in D.C., Secretary Noem Homeland Security (@DHSgov) July 10, 2025 The post refers to the Trump administrations ultimate goal to abolish FEMA altogether in favor of state agencies fully managing their own disasters, a move that experts say could be disastrous as climate change continues to cause increasingly severe weather and states lack the funding and resources to fully combat it.Noem has stood by this goal, telling reporters on Wednesday that, We, as a federal government, dont manage disasters. The state does. We come in and support them, and thats exactly what we did in this situation. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) also praised the president for his response to the floods. Never have I seen a response as quick or as effective as I have the Trump administrations response to this storm, he claimed. In a separate statement to reporters, he also called it the word choice of losers to try to figure out who is to blame for the lack of advanced warning before the floods. In comparison, the Biden administration sent more than 1,000 FEMA workers to aid in rescue efforts when Hurricane Helene hit the Southeast in 2024.The flash flood began in the early morning hours of July 4th, with the center of the tragedy unfolding in Kerry County, Texas, which sits along the Guadalupe River. The river rose more than 25 feet in two hours. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMPam Bondi subpoenas doctors & clinics that provide trans health careThe U.S. Department of Justice has subpoenaed more than 20 doctors and clinics that provide gender-affirming care to transgender minors. As the Guardian reports, a July 9 DOJ press release did not identify the doctors and clinics that had been subpoenaed, nor did it specify the information the department was seeking. According to the release, the DOJ is investigating healthcare fraud, false statements, and more. Related Attorney General threatens doctors with 10 years in prison for providing gender-affirming care She said she would prosecute it as female genital mutilation, not explaining how that would work. The release included a statement from anti-LGBTQ+ Attorney General Pam Bondi mischaracterizing providers of trans healthcare as medical professionals and organizations that mutilated children in the service of a warped ideology and warning that they would be held accountable by this Department of Justice. Subscribe to our Newsletter today While gender-affirming care, which encompasses a range of both surgical and nonsurgical treatments, has been endorsed by every major American medical association and leading world health authority as evidence-based, safe, and in some cases lifesaving for transgender minors, surgical intervention is rarely performed on minors and is not recommended prior to puberty. In fact, a 2024 study out of Harvard indicated that certain gender-affirming surgeries were more prevalent among cisgender patients than trans or gender diverse patients. At an event held by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday, DOJ chief of staff Chad Mizelle said that the department had also subpoenaed major drug manufacturers as part of its investigation into the marketing of drugs used in trans-related medical interventions, STAT reports. According to the outlet, the event focused on the FTCs authority to investigate trans healthcare, with many speakers characterizing the marketing of gender-affirming care to minors and parents as deceptive. The FTC cannot make policy decisions limiting sex transition treatments for minors, FTC Commissioner Melissa Holyoak said, according to STAT. What the FTC can and should do is protect children from deceptive statements regarding such treatments. The DOJs subpoenas come nearly three months after Bondis April memo instructing the department to investigate and prosecute cases of minors receiving gender-affirming care, which she mischaracterized as female genital mutilation. The memo also warned that the DOJ would go after on- or off-label use of puberty blockers, sex hormones, or any other drug used to facilitate a childs so-called gender transition as a violation of consumer protection laws. The memo followed a January executive order aimed at banning gender-affirming care. While the president does not have the authority to ban medical care, he ordered federal agencies to look for ways to limit access to gender-affirming care.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 5 Views 0 Reviews
