Rachel Maddow warns America: We now live in an authoritarian dictatorship
Lesbian MSNBC News host Rachel Maddow told viewers last night that Americans in the U.S. now live in a country that has an authoritarian leader in charge, adding, We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country under President Donald Trump. She then laid out her case.Maddow noted the use of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers as a secret police, calling them, A massive, anonymous, unbadged, literally masked, totally unaccountable internal police force that apparently has infinite funding but no identifiable leadership, and saying that they act in ways designed to instill maximum fear and use maximum force. Related Rachel Maddow plays sad trombone while mocking Trump for the failure of his latest corrupt venture Womp Womp She then shared videos of ICE agents breaking peoples car windows and snatching people off the streets and out of church parking lots and courtroom hallways and taking them away with no charges, no notice, no paperwork, no explanation, not letting them see lawyers, and then moving them secretly to what are effectively black site prisons, where they wont tell you whos there and where no ones allowed in to see whats going on.One of these prisons includes CECOT, the Salvadoran torture camp where Trump sent a gay asylum seeker and hundreds of other men who had not been charged with crimes. The administration sent the men there without due process to determine if there was a reason to send them there and then claimed to be unable to either check on the men or release them. The gay asylum seeker was unable to speak to his family or lawyers while detained there, and the detainees described brutal sexual, physical, and psychological torture that they endured there. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Maddow noted that, like most dictatorships, Trump has targeted immigrants as a scapegoated minority group. She also highlighted Trumps recent comments that he intends to strip Americans of their citizenship in the indeterminate future, in a cartoon caricature of an authoritarian country, Maddow commented. She also noted Trumps $25 million to $45 million June 14 military parade, which he falsely claimed was attended by a crowd of 250,000. Displays of military might are not just for the countrys external enemies, theyre for the countrys own people, right? Maddow said. Because in an authoritarian country, you turn military force inward toward the people of that country. The Trump administration plans to permanently integrate the active duty U.S. military into, of course, immigration enforcement, she said. So we will have our own U.S. military troops mobilized on U.S. soil in an ongoing and permanent way for immigration enforcement. She then shared images of ICE agents attacking pro-immigrant protestors in Los Angeles to illustrate the use of military tactics and weaponry against U.S. citizens. She also noted that congressional Republicans have authorized hundreds of millions of dollars to build new immigration detention facilities across the nation including at U.S. military bases something she referred to as prison camps. She then pointed out the presidents extortionary tactics, seeking to intimidate and silence any media outlets, universities, law firms, and other authoritative government oversight organizations that challenge his power and his version of events.Protests must be criminalized. Media must be intimidated into saying and doing what the leader wants, or they must be shut down, she said. For institutions like that, its not just the boldest or most strong critics of the president who must be shut down its the most mainstream, the most prestigious, the most credible, because thats whats so dangerous about them. There cant be any source of authoritative statements of fact that compete with what the leader insists must be the new truth. She then noted that this authoritarian need to control and silence all opposition now extends to government departments, the military, and U.S. foreign intelligence agencies, noting that, If you want to be a four-star general or admiral in this military, you must now pass a personal one-on-one interview with the president, who personally will decide if you are to his liking or not. This authoritarian inclination was shown most recently in hisfiring of the head of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) after the department released a report on job numbers that dissatisfied Trump. She also noted that U.S. intelligence officials repeated Trumps claims that U.S. attacks obliterated Iranian uranium enrichment sites, even though multiple intelligence reports suggested that the attacks didnt completely destroy them. She also said that Trump continues to insist that he won the 2020 election against Joe Biden even though theres no proof to substantiate the claim. He also continues to deny that Russia helped him win his 2016 election, despite the large amount of evidence supporting that conclusion. The question is no longer how to prepare for this risk, or how to try to avert it, but rather how to fight it now that it is here, she said. Were all living here. Its very obvious that this is not going to get better on its own. This is not going to fix itself. Maddow then said that numerous Americans have been resisting ICE officers recording them, tracking their movements, announcing their presence to others, and generally obstructing their ability to kidnap and detain people. She said that opposition Democratic politicians have been visiting detention facilities, demanding access, and drawing media attention and that opposed individuals have also been attending town hall events of Republican politicians to speak against the rising tide of fascism.I mean it when I say we, the country, gets it and is more against it than theyve ever been, Maddow concluded, and opposing this administration and what Trump is trying to do is turning out to be the story of the century.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

'Project Runway' alum alleges Andy Cohen was more of a 'predator' on set than Harvey Weinstein
Project Runway is back on the air again, which seems to have prompted one alum to air her grievances against the show and former executive producer Andy Cohen. Season 5 contestant Kenley Collins opened up in an explosive social media post, criticizing the reality TV design competition and comparing Cohen to convicted sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.Do you guys really think Harvey Weinstein was the worst one on set? Andy Cohen was, Collins alleges in a series of videos she posted on her Instagram account. The Weinstein Company produced the early seasons of the show when it was airing on Bravo, and Cohen, who Collins alleges was a predator on set, was also an executive producer from 2004 to 2008.Andy Cohen was disgusting, horrible, worst, predator with the gays, hopping around the set like, Hey Twinks! Collins alleged.See on InstagramThe Project Runway and All Stars alum claims that she witnessed the longtime Bravo host and producer of propositioning designers to have a threesome. We called you The Gay Weinstein, acting like a f*cking clown on set, Collins said. The 37-year-old fashion designer also brought up allegations made by Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Nene Leakes and referenced the ongoing court cases that have claimed Cohen is guilty of establishing a hostile workplace.NBC can pay all the money in the world to cover your ass after Nene spoke the truth about you, Kenley continued. Youre a racist predator. Youre finished.See on InstagramAlthough she dropped her lawsuit in 2022, Leakes claimed that Cohen and other network executives from Bravo and NBC Universal violated federal employment and anti-discrimination laws by fostering "a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated if not, encouraged, People reported. But she isnt the only one who alleges that Cohen and other producers are bad actors. Former Real Housewives of New York City star Leah McSweeney has an ongoing lawsuit against Cohen, Bravo Media, NBC Universal Media, Warner Bros. Discovery, production company Shed Media US, and two producers who she alleges exploited her addiction while she was on the show.In March, the judge dismissed all of the charges except for three of McSweeneys disability-related claims, and an outside investigation into the claims that McSweeney and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Brandi Glanville made against Cohen was found to be unsubstantiated. In a follow-up post on Instagram, Collins thanked her fans for their support and alluded to the possibility that she would reveal more details in the future. Its been a scary yet freeing past few days. Im not stopping. There is more to come, she captioned the post. Thank you guys for the love and support. I did not expect that. Im very touched. Stay tuned.Cohen did not immediately respond to PRIDEs request for comment.

An American Nightmare: Three Men Deported to CECOT and Their Families Reflect on Their Monthslong Ordeal
by Gerardo del Valle, ProPublica, and Alejandro Bonilla Surez and Edwin Corona Ramos for ProPublica ProPublica is a nonprofit newsroom that investigates abuses of power. Sign up to receive our biggest stories as soon as theyre published. This article is co-published with The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan local newsroom that informs and engages with Texans, and Alianza Rebelde Investiga and Cazadores de Fake News. The Trump administrations move four months ago to send more than 230 Venezuelan migrants to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador known as CECOT took a staggering toll, not only on the men themselves but also on their families. The men were released to Venezuela on July 18 as part of a prisoner swap without much explanation, and they and their relatives have begun sharing the details of their ordeal.Juan Jos Ramos Ramos describes the physical torture he says he endured during his incarceration at CECOT as his mother, Lina Ramos, explains the emotional agony of not knowing whether shed ever see her son again. Andry Blanco Bonilla and his mother, Carmen Bonilla, still struggle to make sense of how they could have been caught up in something like this when Blanco didnt have a criminal record and, in fact, had a deportation order to be sent back to his home country. Wilmer Vega Sandia, who had migrated to the United States to find work that would help him pay for his mothers cancer treatment, says he prayed every day of his incarceration that hed make it home in time to hold her in his arms.Without providing evidence, the U.S. government branded them all Tren de Aragua gang members, the worst of the worst, sick animals and monsters. Our reporting, a first-of-its-kind, case-by-case examination, shows how the government knew a majority of them had not been convicted of a crime in the U.S. and only a few had serious convictions such as assault and gun possession. We found a dozen or so had criminal records abroad and included those in our comprehensive database, too.Nearly half, 118 of the more than 230 men, including Ramos, came to the U.S. legally and were deported in the middle of their immigration cases. He entered the U.S. with a CBP One appointment, a program the Biden administration used to try to bring order to the soaring numbers of migrants attempting to enter the country. At least 166 of the more than 230 men had tattoos, including Blanco, Ramos and Vega. Our investigation found that the government relied heavily on tattoos to tie the men to the Venezuelan gang, even though Tren de Aragua experts say tattoos are not reliable indicators of gang affiliation.A handful of the men, including Vega, had been granted voluntary departures by an immigration judge, which means they had agreed to pay their way home to Venezuela. Instead, they were deported to El Salvador.Watch the video here. Melissa Sanchez, Perla Trevizo, Mica Rosenberg and Gabriel Sandoval of ProPublica; Ronna Rsquez of Alianza Rebelde Investiga; and Adrin Gonzlez of Cazadores de Fake News contributed reporting. Trump Is Launching an AI Search Engine Powered by Perplexity
Donald Trumps media company is teaming up with Perplexity to bring AI search to Truth Social, the Presidents X.com alternative.Truth announced the endeavor in a press release on Wednesday. Anyone using the browser version of Truth can now use Perplexity to search the web. Were proud to partner with Perplexity to launch our public Beta testing of Truth Social AI, which will make Truth Social an even more vital element in the Patriot Economy, Devin Nunes, Trump Media's CEO and Chair of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board, said in the press release. Were excited to partner with Truth Social to bring powerful AI to an audience with important questions. Curiosity is the engine of change, and Perplexitys AI is developed to empower curiosity by delivering direct, reliable answers with transparent citations that allow anyone to dig deeper, Perplexitys chief business officer Dmitry Shevelenko said in the press release.According to the announcement, the mission of Trump Media is to end Big Techs assault on free speech by opening up the Internet and giving people their voices back. Which is a funny thing to put in an announcement about Trump partnering with a company whose investors include Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, and the former CEO of GitHub.Perplexitys Truth Social search engine will be powered by stolen content. Earlier this week, Cloudflare reported Perplexity used stealth and undeclared crawlers to evade websites that explicitly set themselves up to avoid being catalogued by LLMs. Perplexity has a long history of using scrapers that ignore the Robots Exclusion Protocol. Perplexity started as a demo that scraped Twitter with fake academic accounts backed by AI-generated research proposals.Forbes, the New York Times, New York Post, and the Dow Jones have all accused Perplexity of plagiarism. News Corps Dow Jones & Co., publisher of the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post sued Perplexity in 2024 for copyright infringement, claiming in the federal lawsuit that Perplexity is engaging in a massive amount of illegal copying of publishers copyrighted works and diverting customers and critical revenues away from those copyright holders. In 2024, WIRED reported on the accusations of Perplexitys plagiarism and Perplexity almost immediately plagiarized the story. When New York Times tech workers went on strike last year, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas offered to help the Times keep the paper going.Big Tech has aligned itself with the Trump administration since before the election, seeing an alliance of opportunity for deregulation of AI in particular. But is the Perplexity-powered AI aggregation machine woke? I asked a few questions to find out. I wanted to know: Is Trump in the Epstein files? There is no evidence in the recently reviewed and released government Epstein Files of a client list or documentation placing Donald Trump as implicated in Jeffrey Epstein's criminal actions, it said. While Trumps name, like many other prominent individuals, appears in public records of Epsteins social and business contacts (such as guest lists or flight logs, widely reported over the years), there is no mention in current official documents or filings that directly implicates Trump as a criminal participant in Epsteins sex trafficking activities. How does Truth Socials search engine think the American economy is doing? The American economy is currently facing significant headwinds, with signs of slowdownmost notably by a contraction in GDP, rising inflation, and softening labor market conditionsthough some leaders still emphasize areas of resilience, Truth Search AI said. Are the tariffs to blame?Recent tariff increases in the United States have generally had a negative effect on economic growth and employment, raising costs for businesses and consumers while providing only limited benefits to some manufacturing sectors, Truth Search AI said.Damn. Its woke as hell.

Adult cop posing as 15-year-old boy dishonestly entraped his Grindr hookup, lawyers say
In a troubling reminder of tactics employed by repressive regimes targeting LGBTQ+ people in Russia, the Middle East, and elsewhere, a man in Michigan was arrested in an alleged child sex-trafficking sting after an undercover officer used Grindr to lure him into a hook-up.The undercover 27-year-old cop shot photos of his own muscular torso, which police claim represented a 15-year-old, for a fake Grindr profile that allegedly caught the attention of 34-year-old Evan Lakatos the age of consent in Michigan is 16. Related Russia forces adult content creator & hook-up app user to help entrap gay men Russia reaches a new low in its continued persecution of gay adults. Over two days, Lakatos and the officer exchanged more than 100 messages, before Lakatos headed to what he thought was a hook-up with another consenting adult, he said.He was arrested when he arrived at their hotel rendezvous, and was convicted in 2022 of accosting a child for immoral purposes and communicating via internet to commit a crime. He spent 71 days in jail and was placed on Michigans public sex offender registry. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Lakatos is appealing his case based on a charge of entrapment. When Lakatos repeatedly asked for face photos to confirm his potential hook-ups identity, the officer deflected with sexual offers instead of providing verification. When everything happened, my best friend and I really recounted stuff, because at first, you think, How could you miss something?' Lakatos recalled in an interview with Pride Source. In hindsight, Lakatos remembers navigating multiple conversations on the app at one time. I had a very busy job and this was a disconnected conversation, he said. I was answering when I was on a break, on a quick whim when not dealing with employees or customers, just really not paying that much attention.Over 20 hours of messaging on Grindr, and later via text message, the officer never clearly stated he was underage, Lakatos and his defense team say.The closest reference came buried in their conversation: My cousin finally got the room for me I guess you have to be older than 15 to get a room, the undercover officer wrote.Lakatos response was immediate and focused elsewhere, he says, but he was determined to verify Taylors identity: How rude of them. You have other pics? The hotel room comment didnt register, he says, and came amid a barrage of statements urging Lakatos toward a meeting. The officer was the first to initiate and then escalated the sexual content of their conversation, their exchanges reveal.I want the dominant man to tell me what he wants, the officer wrote, and later, Tell me more daddy. When Lakatos repeatedly asked for face photos to confirm his potential hook-ups identity, the officer deflected with sexual offers instead of providing verification. The officer also persistently pressured Lakatos to bring alcohol, with messages like I LOVE white claws (a canned seltzer beverage) and are you bringing me the drinks tonight? Prosecutors used that exchange against Lakatos at trial as evidence he intended to furnish alcohol to a minor. Prosecutors also used the common daddy and boy gay nomenclature to convince the jury that Lakatos understood he was speaking with someone underage. Adult gay men often use the terms when engaging in fantasy role play or flirting with younger and older men (even when the men are clearly above the age of consent). After creating his fake profile with a fake adult birthdate, the undercover cop used Grindrs ghost mode feature to hide his age from other users. Dominica Convertino, Lakatos appellate attorney said similar sting operations are operating all over the state. Some are multiple counties working together. Some are a single county, effectuating their own task force. They are supposed to follow strict protocols, however, with an explicit statement by the undercover officer that theyre underage; the suspect must acknowledge that the potential date is underage; the suspect must be the first to bring up sex; and age disclosures should happen via text message exchanges, not on the original platforms profile text. Lakatos and his team say officers violated all of those protocols.By doing so, they engaged in both reprehensible conduct and the inducement of someone to commit a crime who otherwise wouldnt have, Lakatos lawyers say. Together, those two actions meet the definition of entrapment under Michigan law.At Lakatos sentencing after his first trial, even the judge expressed concerns. He noted that the undercover agents could have been a little bit more explicit in terms of the age requirement, and added, It didnt help that they had this full-grown male that was very muscular posing as a 15-year-old.Authorities in Russia and the Middle East regularly use online hookup apps to entrap men who have sex with other men. Prosecutors will often accuse the men of pedophilia, sex work, drug possession, or trumped-up charges against morality, and then use the charges to harass, extort, and imprison queer men, often ruining their reputations and alienating them from potential supporters in the process.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Listen up WNBA fans, players are fed up with sex toy bit, so can you please keep it in your pants?
The WNBA has been busy making headlines for rising in popularity, having rookie players that are breaking records, and being extremely queer. But lately, the league has been in the news because colorful dildos have been flying onto the court during games. At first, it seemed comical, playful even, and maybe a good luck charm for the Golden State Valkyries, who won both games where a dildo ended up on the court. But now, womens sports fans, its time to talk because youve taken it too far. It's not funny anymore. The first lime green dildo was thrown onto the court of a contentious game between the Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream on July 29 in Georgia. (@) Almost the entirety of the internet thought the incident was hilarious and quickly got busy making memes. But then it just kept happening. The bizarre trend continued a few days later at an August 1 game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky. The third time this happened, Indian Fever star Sophie Cunningham ended up getting hit in the head with the sex toy after telling people on X (formerly Twitter) to stop throwing dildos on the court youre going to hurt one of us. (@) Then, someone tried to throw another green dildo at a New York Liberty game, but instead of it landing on the court, it nearly hit a child, according to a video posted on social media.Once a sex toy almost nails a kid in the head, its time to look at what were doing. At first, we wondered if this wasnt a funny, tongue-in-cheek way to call out just how sapphic the game has gotten, but now that a man has been arrested and said that it was supposed to be a joke and go viral, the intentions seem more problematic. (@) Being taken seriously as a female athlete is already a tough assignment, and having sex toys flying left and right during games isnt helping, especially at a time when WNBA players are fighting for better compensation and revenue sharing.Bottom line: womens sports are not a joke. And while wed like to think this started as a harmless prank that gave us all a chuckle, its starting to smack of sexism. In the beginning even some of the players seemed to laugh along. Fever guard Sydney Colson even went on her podcast dressed a green dildo, but then things kept escalating and other players started pointing out how disrespectful and dangerous it is. (@) Its super disrespectful, Sky center Elizabeth Williams said after he game against the Valkyries, per Front Office Sports. I dont really get the point of it. Its really immature. Whoevers doing it just needs to grow up.Sparks coach Lynne Roberts also said, Its ridiculous, its dumb, its stupid. Its also dangerous. Player safety is number one, respecting the game, all those things. I think its really stupid. And GOAT Diana Taurasi had the perfect response for the jokesters, I would have picked that thing up and thrown it right back at them. Maybe we should all just listen to the players themselves. So whoever is keeping this joke going, whether they are straight or gay, its time to call it quits. The bit is getting tired anyway, right?

Creepy.Sexy.Cool. is about keeping that energy alive on the dance floor no rules, just rhythm, looks, and liberation."Coule, who previously headlined tours such as The Lipstick Ball and The Love Ball, and was featured as the opening act in Trixie Mattel's Solid Pink Disco, now assumes the headlining spot in a six-city DJ tour that kicks off on October 23.Different dates of Creepy.Sexy.Cool. will feature All Stars 10 queens Aja and Kerri Colby, as well as Drag Race season 15 finalist Luxx Noir London. Otherwise, Coule will be joined by DJ and Chicago nightlife staple Mister Wallace throughout the tour.Coule has spent years releasing original music and performing with artists like Betty Who, Chappell Roan, The Dare, and Christina Aguilera. Recently, they entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the character Slug on Disney+'s Ironheart. Now, the time has come for the All Stars 5 winner to make you dance.Oh, and by the way: Creepy, sexy, cool costumes aren't just encouraged, they're part of the invitation. And that's a message from Ms. Coule herself.Tickets and more information are available on SheaCoulee.com. ICE Is Buying Mobile Iris Scanning Tech for Its Deportation Arm
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is looking to buy iris scanning technology that its manufacturer says can identify known persons in seconds from virtually anywhere, according to newly published procurement documents.Originally designed to be used by sheriff departments to identify inmates or other known persons, ICE is now likely buying the technology specifically for its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) section, which focuses on deportations. This one-of-a-kind system allows sheriffs and other law enforcement agencies to quickly authenticate the identity of the person in their custody and provides record information from other jurisdictions across the country once the offender is registered in the system, a brochure for one of the technology products, called the Mobile Offender Recognition & Identification System, or MORIS, reads. The procurement documents say ICE is also seeking to buy access to the Inmate Recognition & Identification System, or I.R.I.S., and marketing material available online says the two work in tandem with one another. I.R.I.S. claims to be the only national, web-based iris biometric network in that material.Do you know anything else about this technology, or others being used by ICE? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at joseph.404 or send me an email at joseph@404media.co.Both products are made by BI2 Technologies, a company based in Massachusetts. Neither BI2 or DHS responded to a request for comment. On Wednesday ICE posted an announcement saying it intended to award a sole source purchase order to BI2 for licenses to both I.R.I.S and MORIS. According to BI2 marketing material, MORIS is available on Apple and Android devices. That material says it can identify an offender already enrolled in a national database.Screenshot from BI2 marketing material. The Inmate Identification and Recognition System (I.R.I.S.) positively identifies offenders using the most anatomically unique biometricthe iris, a page on BI2s website reads. It says that Sheriffs Offices have been using I.R.I.S for making arrests, inmate intaking and booking, releasing inmates, and authenticating an individual. At the root of iris recognitions accuracy is the data-richness of the iris itself. The I.R.I.S. system captures over 265 points of unique characteristics in formulating its algorithmic template, the website adds.BI2s system connects to multiple databases according to previous media reports, including the Sex Offender Registry and Identification System, Child Project, Senior Safety Net (a registry used to identify enrolled seniors who may be lost due to dementia) and I.R.I.S. itself. In a 2017 press release, Sean G. Mullin, president of BI2 Technologies, said the companys technology will provide each Sheriff with immediate access to national, state and local criminal justice and law enforcement databases. This will enable Sheriffs staff to positively identify previously enrolled individuals in seconds, regardless of the often fraudulent identity presented. This appears to be BI2s first contract with ICE, according to federal procurement databases. An ICE source also said they had never heard of ICE working with BI2. 404 Media granted the source anonymity because they werent permitted to speak to the press.404 Media previously reported on Mobile Fortify, a new ICE facial recognition app that officials can install on their work issued phones which queries a wealth of state and federal databases at once to reveal someones identity and whether they had been marked for deportation. That included images collected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) when people enter or exit the United States.

Nancy Mace launches governor campaign & its all about trans people
Proud transphobe Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced that she is running for governor of her state, and her campaign announcement video makes it seem like her campaigns central message is going to be her hatred of trans people.Mace, who has been expected to announce a run for governor for a while now, posted a video to social media earlier this week in which she announced her campaign. Related Nancy Mace falsely accused this doctor of child abuse & she lost her job. Shes running for Senate. Dr. Annie Andrews talked to LGBTQ Nation about what it was like being targeted by Nancy Mace and how shes fighting back now. The video starts with some clips from the media of people vaguely praising her as resilient and a fighter, but the first fact about Mace the ad mentions is that she was the first woman to graduate from the Citadel, a military college in South Carolina that was forced by a court to start accepting women in the 90s.Mace became the first woman to graduate from South Carolinas famed military college, a voice says and then immediately cuts to Fox host Rachel Campos-Duffy, telling Mace, Youve taken a lot of abuse for standing up for the rights of women. The clip is from November 2024 when Mace introduced resolutions to ban trans women from using the womens rooms at the Capitol complex just after the first transgender member of Congress, Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), was elected. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Womens rights, in this context, is a euphemism for transphobia; Mace opposes traditional womens rights issues like reproductive freedom and voted against the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) in 2021.The next clip in the video shows Mace talking to Fox host Laura Ingraham and linking her time at the Citadel to her fight against transgender peoples rights. The next several news clips in the video are, again, about her resolutions to keep McBride from using the womens room at the Capitol. We will be prepared to take on the challenges of this historic moment, she says at the end of the video. The video does not present Maces views on any other issue facing the state of South Carolina.South Carolinas poverty rate is higher than the national average, and many of its workers lack access to basic resources like paid sick leave. The states infrastructure including roads, bridges, and water systems is aging and in need of repair. The states violent and property crime rates also exceed the national average. Im running to be the Governor of South Carolina! Gods not done with South Carolina and neither am I. You and me. Our mission begins now.South Carolina First. Nancy Mace for Governor.https://t.co/tkO1oN5G0W pic.twitter.com/odvxAKfz5b Nancy Mace (@NancyMace) August 4, 2025The video reflects Maces social media presence, where she has been posting several times a day for months now about transgender people. She has identified herself as a proud transphobe on social media and has repeatedly used anti-trans slurs to stress her hatred of trans people. She also gave a speech at the Citadel on Monday where she announced her campaign in person. That speech also involved attacking transgender peoples rights. In that speech, she promised to ban pronouns in the classroom. While South Carolina already has several laws attacking the rights of transgender students including a ban on using the appropriate restrooms, a law requiring teachers to out trans students to their parents, and a trans sports ban it does not yet have a Dont Say Gay or Trans law banning classroom discussions of LGBTQ+ people.I dont want to see any glitter parties. I want kids coming home with As and Bs, not they and them, she said in her speech, perhaps referring to the online myth that teachers are somehow turning students transgender. We will not fund any schools that allow biological men in womens bathrooms or locker rooms, that allow men to compete in womens sports or schools that push gender ideology, she continued. I hold the line on women and kids by vetoing funding to any college that pushes gender ideology and refuses to define what a woman is. If a school erases women, it erases its right to your tax dollars, Mace said.Mace will face South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson (R) in the GOP primary, and she has already been attacking him. In February, she gave a speech on the House floor where she accused her ex-fiance and three other men of rape and sex trafficking. She said they committed some of the most heinous crimes against women imaginable. In that speech, she said that Wilson didnt prosecute the men even though she claimed that she gave Wilson evidence of their crimes. All four men deny the allegations and Wilson called Maces claim that she told him about the crimes categorically false. The reason Mace made these accusations in a House floor speech is the Speech and Debate Clause of the Constitution. She could have been found liable for defamation for making these accusations if she cant prove them true, but the Speech and Debate Clause of the Constitution protects members of Congress from lawsuits for anything they say during legislative activity.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
