WWW.404MEDIA.COBehind the Blog: 'Free Speech' and Open DialogueThis is Behind the Blog, where we share our behind-the-scenes thoughts about how a few of our top stories of the week came together. This week, we discuss "free speech," keeping stupid thoughts in one's own head, and cancel culture.JASON: In August 2014, I spoke to Drew Curtis, the founder of Fark.com, a timeless, seminal internet website, about a decision he had just made. Curtis banned misogyny from his website, partially in the name of facilitating free speech. We don't want to be the He Man Woman Hater's Club. This represents enough of a departure from pretty much how every other large internet community operates that I figure an announcement is necessary, Curtis wrote when he announced the rule. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMAGA podcaster subpoenaed after starting rumor that Charlie Kirk shooter was transgenderAnti-trans podcaster Steven Crowder claims his company has been subpoenaed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) after he shared early, now-discredited details about the investigation into the shooting death of conservative activist and Trump ally Charlie Kirk earlier this week.In a September 11X post, Crowder claimed to have received an email from an ATF officer that included a screenshot of an internal message describing a weapon and bullet cartridges found near the Utah Valley State University campus, where Kirk was shot and killed at a speaking event on Wednesday. Crowder included the screenshot and a transcription of the message in his post. However, the paper later updated its reporting, describing the message as an early bulletin circulated widely among law enforcement officials. The paper noted that Justice Department officials had cautioned against drawing conclusions from the internal report, explaining that the bulletin may not accurately reflect the messages on the cartridges.Similarly, the New York Times reported Thursday that a senior law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the investigation cautioned that the report had not been verified by A.T.F. analysts, did not match other summaries of the evidence and might turn out to have been misread or misinterpreted. Despite officials warnings not to jump to conclusions, conservative media personality Megyn Kelly did just that, reposting the initial WSJ report in a Thursday X post claiming that Crowder was right.Trans & anti-fascist apparent motivation in Charlies murder, Kelly wrote. According to NBC News, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed at a press conference that the arrest came after a friend of Robinsons family contacted authorities, indicating that Robinson had confessed to the murder.Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years, Cox said. The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner prior to September 10. And in the conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didnt like him and the viewpoints that he had.According to CNN, Cox also said that inscriptions on three of the unfired casings found along with the alleged murder weapon read Hey, fascist! Catch! and included an up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol and three down arrow symbols. WWW.PRIDE.COMWNBA playoff teams ranked by how queer they areThe sapphics are heading to the playoffs! This season may have just been the WNBAs gayest yet, with 41 queer players suiting up every week, which means this years playoffs are going to be full of queer women. For the 2025 playoffs, eight of the 13 teams in the league will be competing for the championship title, and every single team playing has at least two LGBTQ+ players. This years WNBA playoffs have everything. Weve got the StudBudz fighting for the Minnesota Lynx, couples taking to the court together, and girlfriends who are going to be forced to compete against each other. And while some people are anxiously waiting to find out what team is going to come out on top, were wondering who wins a different competition altogether: which team is the gayest? So keep scrolling to see our extremely scientific ratings!8. Indiana FeverSee on InstagramThe Indiana Fever may be at the bottom of our list with only two queer players, but Natasha Howard and Sydney Colson have so much LGBTQ+ pride that their straight teammate A'ja Wilson buys them a special Pride Month cake every year. Queer players:Natasha HowardSydney Colson7. Atlanta DreamSee on InstagramIt was hard to choose between the Atlanta Dream and the Fever both of which have two queer players, but we gave extra points to the Dream because WNBA sapphic icon Britney Griner is on the team, and this will mark her tenth playoff run.Queer players:Britney GrinerJordin Canada6. Seattle StormSee on InstagramHonestly, there was tough competition between the Storm and the Valkyries since they have the same number of queer players, and although the Oakland-based team has a very sapphic raven named Violet as their mascot, the Storms mascot, Doppler, has been seen stroking a giant clam. That speaks for itself. Queer players:Erica WheelerGabby Williams Brittner Sykes5. Golden State ValkyriesSee on InstagramThe Golden State Valkyries tied the Seattle Storm with three queer players, but they beat out the Pacific Northwest team for two key reasons. One, they are the first expansion team to ever reach the playoffs in its debut season, and two, their new mascot is almost as a gay as Ellie the Elephant. Queer players:Tiffany HayesKate MartinCecilia Zandalasini4. Las Vegas AcesSee on InstagramThe Aces have four queer players, including NaLyssa Smith who is currently dating the Lynxs DiJonai Carrington, and Jewell Lloyd who recently hard launch her relationship with former Miami Hurricanes player Natalija Marshall. The team also has a very sapphic bunny as their mascot. Nuff said.Queer players:Kierstan BellNaLyssa SmithChelsea GrayJewell Loyd3. Minnesota LynxSee on InstagramMinnesotas team has five queer players, including the now infamous StudBudz. And while their mascot isnt as gay as the Liberty, DiJonai Carrington is also dating her former Dallas Wings teammate NaLyssa Smith. The two were split up when Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Aces and Carrington was traded to the Lynx and will now be competing against each other for the playoff championship title.Queer players:Natisha HiedemanDiJonai CarringtonCourtney WilliamsKayla McBrideJaylyn Sherrod2. New York LibertySee on InstagramThe New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx are both sending five sapphic players to the playoffs, which means that we had to rely on different metrics to figure out which team is the gayest. Now, while the Lynx has the StudBudz, the Liberty eked out a victory by having the gayest mascot in the WNBA. Ellie the Elephant is such a lesbian icon that Liberty is the clear winner.Queer players:Natasha CloudIsabelle HarrisonMarine JohannsJonquel JonesBreanna Stewart1. WWW.PRIDE.COM'Wednesday' star Georgie Farmer just dropped sexy shirtless pics & gays are turning to stoneThe latter half of Wednesday season two may have left us breathless, but one of its breakout stars is leaving us downright thirsty.Georgie Farmer, who plays Ajax Petropolus, the shy gorgon with a hoodie and a snake problem, just gave fans a look at whats really beneath the layers. Spoiler alert: its abs for days. The first selfie hit social media with the caption: AJAX FROM WEDNESDAY?!?? DAMN. In it, Farmer poses shirtless in grey sweats, his lean, sculpted frame doing more damage than any gorgon stare ever could. (@) Shortly after, an older shot started recirculating of a similar photo with him in black shorts. (@) And just like that, X (and queer X in particular) lost its collective chill. (@) When did he become a muscle daddy, one fan asked. Another confessed, This is the first time Im seeing him shirtless and DAAAAAAMN. (@) The gorgon jokes practically wrote themselves, with someone saying, He does turn me into stone by just looking at him. (@) Others abandoned subtlety entirely: he can do whatever he wants with me. (@) Farmer, 22, may have never publicly addressed his sexuality, but that hasnt stopped LGBTQ+ fans from crowning him the internets new thirst trap. (@) Up until now, Farmers Ajax has been known for his shy charm, awkward crushes, and perpetually hidden snakes. But these selfies prove theres another side waiting to be unleashed that doesnt need CGI to stop people in their tracks. (@) Wednesday may be filled with monsters, misfits, and ghouls, but Farmers abs have officially let us know he doesnt need his gorgon gaze to petrify us.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações 0 Anterior

GAYETY.COMJoJo Siwa Claims She Never Craved a Wedding Until New Relationship with Chris HughesJoJo Siwa, the once-bow-wearing, always-bold pop culture phenomenon, is in love; and its changing how she sees her future in more ways than one.In a candid and emotionally revealing interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast this week, the 22-year-old entertainer and LGBTQ+ icon opened up about her relationship with Love Island UK alum Chris Hughes, 32, and how their connection has shifted her outlook on romance, commitment, and identity.Im happy, Siwa said. Ive never wanted the future so bad. Ive never, ever wanted the love that I have to just continue to grow. While fans have long known Siwa as a proud and outspoken member of the LGBTQ+ community, her current relationship has prompted both celebration and criticism, especially from within queer spaces. But the Dance Moms alum isnt backing down. Instead, shes inviting fans to expand their understanding of love, labels, and growth. From Big Brother to Big FeelingsSiwa and Hughes met earlier this year while filming Celebrity Big Brother UK Season 24. What started as an unlikely friendship quickly blossomed into something deeper, culminating in a romance that surprised even them.By the summer, Siwa had confirmed the relationship publicly in a June 2 interview with The Guardian, stating: Its not platonic anymore, and its been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and Im absolutely head over heels for him and hes the same way. Now, just months later, shes opening up even further about how being with Hughes has transformed her perspective on what love, and a future, could look like.Ive never craved a wedding, Siwa admitted. Ive always wanted to just go sign a piece of paper or go to Vegas cause I didnt wanna have a wedding. But now Im like, No, I want a ring and I want my dad to walk me down the aisle, and I want a first dance, and I want butterflies.Navigating Identity, Visibility, and BacklashFor Siwa, who came out as LGBTQ+ in 2021 and has been a vocal advocate for queer youth, being in a relationship with a man has complicated her public perception, and drawn backlash from some corners of the queer community. It is hard because it feels like my own family has turned a little bit, she said, referencing the LGBTQ+ community. And I think we are the LGBTQIA+ family, not the LG community. Its a beautiful rainbow, and the number one saying of the queer community is love is love.Siwa emphasized that her relationship with Hughes doesnt erase or invalidate her past, nor should it call her queer identity into question. Just because I am in a heterosexual relationship, that doesnt discredit my past.Unfortunately, the backlash shes experienced has been more than just comments online. Siwa spoke about witnessing peoples reactions to her in public, describing them as dismissive or mocking.I see them see me, and I see them laugh. I see them point. I see them roll their eyes, she shared. That to me has made me be so aware of how brutal hate can befrom outside the community and from within. She also pointed to the broader impact of such criticism, saying, I think people need to watch it, because I can take itbut other people cant, and thats tough.A Message to the Community: Love Doesnt Have to Fit a MoldDespite the scrutiny, Siwas message remains clear: shes living her truth. And while she acknowledges the nuance and complexity of queer identity, she also believes in making space for joy, especially when it comes to love.I think older people in the community need to realize the way that you treat me in this situation doesnt affect me, I promise, at all, she said. Im very happy. Im very loved. I give a lot of love. Im feeling very loved. I am in a great place.Hughes has been featured regularly on Siwas social media in recent months, including posts celebrating their travels and sweet PDA moments, most recently during a romantic Royal Caribbean cruise. Siwa has also shared that Hughes is playing a role in her brothers upcoming wedding, signaling just how deeply their relationship has already integrated into her family life.Source0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações 0 Anterior

GAYETY.COMOregon Lawmaker Leaves GOP Over Anti-LGBTQ, Anti-Equity Agenda and Cites Gay Son as Turning PointIn a political era marked by deep polarization, one Oregon legislator is making headlines, and waves, by walking away from the Republican Party in a deeply personal and principled move.Oregon State Representative Cyrus Javadi, who represents the states 32nd district, announced last week that he is officially switching his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat. In a candid and emotional essay published on Substack, Javadi explained his reasons for the switch, citing growing extremism in the GOP and his concerns over the partys treatment of marginalized communities, including his own gay son.Ive had enough, Javadi wrote. Enough of politics as performance art. Enough of refusing to govern. Enough of isolating vulnerable communities when its politically convenient.Javadis decision to change parties isnt just symbolic, it has real legislative consequences. His switch increases the Democratic majority in the Oregon House to 37 out of 60 seats. And while Javadi insists he hasnt changed his core beliefs, hes made it clear that the Republican Party has changed drastically, and not for the better.A Gradual Shift with a Clear Breaking PointThe turning point for Javadi came during Oregons 2025 legislative session, when he cast a series of votes that sharply diverged from his Republican colleagues. Most notably, he was the only Republican to vote in favor of a bill prohibiting discriminatory book bans, a move that earned him praise from progressive circles but ire from conservative activists. The bill, now signed into law by Democratic Governor Tina Kotek, protects access to books in public schools that reflect the identities and experiences of LGBTQ+, Black, Muslim, and other historically marginalized students. For Javadi, the vote was personal. One of my kids is gay, he revealed in his post. And I thought about what it would mean if he went to the school library and couldnt find a single story where someone like him existed. Thats not about being woke. Thats about being American. He pushed back on GOP talking points that claimed the bill allowed pornography in schools, noting that parents already had avenues to challenge library materials. The real issue, he wrote, was whether kids like my son could still see themselves in the books on those shelves.Facing Backlash and IntimidationJavadis independent streak has made him a target among right-wing activists in Oregon. After his vote on the book ban legislation and his support for a resolution honoring Black drag performers, he became the subject of a heated recall campaign, launched by former supporters. Things escalated quickly. When I came back to work at the dental clinic on Tuesday, one of the windows had been smashed out, he shared. The fury wasnt a surprise. It was a confirmation. For months now, the Republican Partys message has been simple: we dont care what the problem is, just vote noor else.Javadis public safety concerns, paired with what he called the GOPs increasing opportunism and cruelty, ultimately pushed him to leave the party. Many Republicans still share my values, he admitted, but the party apparatus is headed somewhere else entirely. I just cant be a part of it anymore. Not Quite a LiberalDespite joining the Democratic Party, Javadi is clear that he doesnt identify as a liberal. I didnt binge-watch Rachel Maddow and have an epiphany, he quipped. Im still the same person Ive always been. His voting record reflects that nuance. In 2024, he sponsored a bill seeking to ban most abortions after 15 weeks, and he previously celebrated the Supreme Courts decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, though his Facebook post at the time included misleading claims about Oregons abortion laws.Javadi also supported the recriminalization of drug possession in Oregon, leading to nearly 2,600 arrests in the past year alone. These positions have made him a controversial figure among progressive voters, even as some say theyre starting to believe he may be evolving.A Voters PerspectiveKetzel Levine, an Oregon voter and former critic of Javadis anti-abortion stance, told the Oregon Capital Chronicle that shes seeing a shift in his leadership.Im beginning to trust him in a way that I never did before, Levine said. I would like to think that what Im seeing now is a more compassionate and a more genuine representative, and not such a consummate politician. While shes not ready to endorse him outright, Levine said she is open to supporting him, if he continues to back policies that reflect empathy and inclusion.Bigger Than One VoteJavadis defection marks more than a political realignment. Its a deeply personal response to a party he says has lost its way. And in citing his gay son as a catalyst, he joins a growing list of public figures who have rejected political orthodoxy in favor of family, compassion, and common sense.I love my son, he wrote. And I refuse to be part of a movement that would tell him hes less than. That his story doesnt belong. That he shouldnt be seen. His decision may not erase his past votes or positions, but its opened a new chapter in his career, and perhaps in the future of LGBTQ+ representation in state politics. For LGBTQ+ voters and allies, Javadis move sends a message: Change is possible, even in places, and from people, you might not expect.Source0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações 0 Anterior

GAYETY.COMNetflix Renews The Hunting Wives for Season 2 Following Breakout SuccessNetflix is doubling down on the drama. After capturing audiences with its addictive mix of suburban scandal, power plays, and forbidden queer romance, The Hunting Wives has officially been renewed for a second season. Originally slated for Starz, the series found a wider, and wildly enthusiastic, audience when Netflix acquired global rights from Lionsgate. The shows first season premiered on July 21 and quickly made waves, spending five consecutive weeks on Netflixs Global English Top 10 list and racking up over 20 million views, according to the streaming giant.Despite the immediate success, the renewal didnt come overnight. Insiders report that Netflix had to untangle international licensing deals in order to move forward with Season 2 as a fully branded Netflix original. That process is now complete, and fans can officially rejoice.A Suburban Thriller with a Queer TwistSet in the fictional Texas town of Maple Brook, The Hunting Wives tells the story of Margo (Malin kerman), a wealthy, controlling queen bee, and Sophie (Brittany Snow), a bored suburban transplant looking for excitement. The two womens chemistry ignites into a torrid affair that ultimately turns deadly. The first season concluded with a literal cliffhanger: Sophie pushes Kyle (Margos brother) off a cliff after a violent confrontation, only to realize shed accidentally answered Margos call on Kyles phone in the process. Suspicion, secrets, and scandal are sure to follow.A newly released Season 2 synopsis confirms the fallout is far from over: At the start of Season 2, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted? The full cast is set to return, including kerman, Snow, Dermot Mulroney (as Jed, Margos gubernatorial-hopeful husband), Jamie Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier.Cultural Clashes and Power PlaysAdapted by Hightown creator Rebecca Cutter from May Cobbs bestselling 2021 novel, The Hunting Wives has been praised for its biting commentary on cultural and political divides in the American South. Variety critic Alison Herman noted that the show is a tale of red state-blue state culture clash, a premise that remains its most interesting element even after a dead body disrupts the proceedings. That layer of cultural critique, paired with the shows unapologetically queer storyline, has helped it stand out in a crowded streaming landscape. The series combination of political ambition, marital dysfunction, queer desire, and literal cliffhangers has made it a must-watchand a social media sensation.Whats Next for Margo and Sophie? While Netflix has yet to announce a specific release date for Season 2, fans are already speculating about what lies ahead for the shows complicated leads. In a previous interview with Variety, kerman teased a high-stakes reunion between Margo and Sophie, one that will likely involve both cover-ups and comebacks.I think itll have to be Margo and Sophie banding together to cover up the murder, and Margo reconciling with Jed, kerman said. Especially if he goes on this political trail, hes going to want the image to be right. So I think she has something to gain there She doesnt want to lose that lifestyle or that position of power.kermans performance as Margo, equal parts icy, magnetic, and vulnerable, has become a standout, while Snows portrayal of Sophie continues to evolve as her character sheds innocence for survival instincts.Behind the Scenes: More to ComeRebecca Cutter, who will return as showrunner and executive producer, celebrated the renewal with characteristic flair.Cutter is also developing another project with Netflix through Jerry Bruckheimer Television. She shares executive producing duties with May Cobb, the author of the original novel, and Erwin Stoff for 3 Arts Entertainment. With its mix of queer storytelling, femme power, and murder mystery, The Hunting Wives is not just another thrillerits a cultural moment. And now that its fully a Netflix original, its poised to become a global obsession.Source0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 4 Visualizações 0 Anterior

Israeli forces in the West Bank shot three 14-year-old Palestinians, killing two of them, and detained hundreds in a separate raid after an explosive device struck an armored vehicle, lightly wounding two soldiers. They were the latest violent ripples from the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict that began decades earlier.Israel captured east Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza in the 1967 Mideast war, and the Palestinians want all three for a future state. This week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again vowed that would never happen as he formalized a major new settlement project that critics say would split the West Bank in half. Israeli forces shoot 3 teenagersOn Monday, the same day as the Jerusalem attack later claimed by Hamas Israeli troops shot and killed two 14-year-old boys in the West Bank city of Jenin. The army carried out a major raid there earlier this year that destroyed scores of homes and displaced tens of thousands.Relatives of Islam Majarmeh said he was killed as the family returned to their home to try to retrieve their belongings. His father, Abdul Aziz, said they went back after hearing the army had left, only to find their home completely destroyed. As they were leaving, troops opened fire, he said.He was standing right next to me, and suddenly he collapsed, face-first on the ground, said Majarmeh. A soldier came and told me to leave. I said, How can I leave? I wont go. This is a child. The military said in a statement that several individuals it described as suspects had entered an off-limits area of Jenin and approached soldiers threateningly. It said troops opened fire after they ignored orders to leave, and that it was reviewing the incident. Another 14-year-old, Mohammed Masqala, was killed by Israeli fire that day, according to the Palestinian Authoritys Health Ministry. The circumstances of that shooting were not immediately clear. On Wednesday, another 14-year-old, Oday Turkman, was shot and wounded while riding his bike, his father, Faisal, said as he stood by his bedside. The teenager is now in stable condition. The military said troops opened fire because individuals were throwing stones at them, but Turkman said his son had done nothing wrong. He wasnt carrying a stone or anything else, and he posed no threat, the father said.At least 18 Palestinian children under the age of 15 have been shot and killed by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank since the start of the year, according to data from the United Nations. Mass detention after a roadside bomb blastOn Thursday, Israeli forces encircled the West Bank town of Tulkarem and detained hundreds of people after a bomb blast wounded two soldiers. Hamas and the smaller Islamic Jihad group claimed the attack.A video of the raid, shared on social media and obtained by The Associated Press, showed dozens of men in a line, each with his hands on the shoulders of the man in front of him. The army did not respond to request for comment.Troops brought roughly a thousand people to an open field area near a military checkpoint and held them overnight before releasing most of them, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, a group that advocates for prisoners and detainees, and two men who were detained and spoke to the AP after their release.Pharmacist Yazeed Al-Sarghali said troops entered his shop Thursday afternoon, detaining him, his son and the customers inside. They made us stand in a line, like a train. There were seven of us, and they marched us for about 100 meters (yards), he said. As we were walking, they would stop anyone they suspected, including people living in the houses on both sides of the street. Al-Sarghali said the troops did not interrogate anyone and released most of the men around 1 a.m. Friday.Mohammed Baddo, 19, said he was sitting at a cafe with a friend when the soldiers detained them. They didnt take our ID cards, our phones, or anything at all they just kept us sitting there, he said.On Friday, a Palestinian working in a hotel near Jerusalem stabbed and wounded two guests, in what police said was a militant attack. This place is oursIsrael says its near-daily military raids across the West Bank are aimed at rooting out Hamas and other militant groups that attack Israeli civilians. The raids have grown far more intense and wide-ranging since Hamas Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel triggered the war nearly two years ago.To Palestinians, the raids cement Israels control over a territory where 500,000 settlers have full Israeli citizenship and 3 million Palestinians live under military rule. The Palestinian Authority exercises limited autonomy in towns and cities. On Thursday, Netanyahu attended a signing ceremony for a major settlement project in an area known as E1, just outside of Jerusalem. Palestinians and rights groups say it will cut the West Bank in half and further sever it from east Jerusalem, making it virtually impossible to establish a viable Palestinian state. The creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel is seen internationally as the only realistic way to resolve the conflict and end the kind of bloodshed seen this week. Israels current government and most of its political class are opposed to Palestinian statehood. Hamas leaders have at times suggested they might accept a state along the 1967 lines, but the group remains formally committed to Israels destruction. We said that there will not be a Palestinian state and indeed there will be no Palestinian state, Netanyahu said at the ceremony in Maale Adumim, a sprawling settlement just outside of Jerusalem. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMPete Buttigieg says leftist scolding has alienated young menOut former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg discussed why young men feel alienated by the political left and how he tries to foster conversations that may change the minds of those who politically disagree with him.You have a lot of younger men who viewed the things that have changed [over the last five years] as going so far that they no longer see where they would fit in a more progressive story, Buttigieg said in a recent interview with GQ magazine as part of the magazines series on masculinity. To me, thats a tragedy because I think in many ways young men have a lot to lose, maybe the most to lose from some of the mistakes that are happening right now in our politics and in our government. Related Tucker Carlson wants to ask Pete Buttigieg very specific questions about gay sex He also worried that men feel alienated from the political left-wing, in part, because the left has developed a culture that is increasingly scolding and finger-wagging and (in a post #MeToo context) often only discusses masculinity in terms of being toxic rather than providing alternatives of positive masculinity. Nobody wants to feel like theyve got to look over their shoulder all the time. I grew up in a time when as a man, you were looking over your shoulder to make sure that you were being masculine enough. And of course, thats 10 times more if you happen to be gay. Then you go one turning of the wheel or one generation forward, and I think a lot of young men felt like they were looking over their shoulder for fear of being censured for somehow being toxic or being too masculine or doing or saying something wrong. This is part of what happened with cancel culture. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today While Buttigieg said he has felt pressure to be masculine on the political stage, in the military, and growing up in Indiana, he has had to question what actually feels true to his own sense of self. He considers honesty, decency, loyalty, and protection of loved ones to be aspects of his own masculinity, but also said that one quality in his closest male relationships is emotional transparency about what youre going through and whats tough, what hurts, where you need help, when you need somebody to be there for you.He wants to encourage the next generation of men to build skills and character that help them lead and relate to others in a way that isnt about their own ego. He worries that these qualities may seem even harder to develop in a technological age where people feel increasingly isolated from others, where online discourse deals mostly in negative insecurity, and where AI threatens to displace mens economic workforce security. The key is for people to understand that positive change is not at your expense, he said. I have a very personal version of this that Ive lived out, obviously, which is marriage equality, right? No straight married couple is worse off because weve had marriage equality for the last 10 years. Its only made the institution of marriage stronger. When we get this right, this is not at anybodys expense. But it can feel that way, and my side bears some of the blame for making it feel that way.Because, again, if we cant separate the word masculinity from the word toxic, or if we make it seem like anybody whos got any discomfort around changes in society, gender roles, you name it, must be some kind of dinosaur or retrograde a**hole if thats the message were putting out, then of course people are going to feel like its hostile to them versus feel like theyre being recruited into that new future, he added. He then said he feels encouraged by his perception that young men seem to more openly discuss their engagement with mental health support than they did five or 10 years ago. He also said that when going onto Fox News or other conservative venues to have challenging discussions with people who may politically disagree with him, he tries to imagine that hes talking to guys I grew up with or knew in Indiana, who I really disagree with on politics and also really like.I want to make sure, precisely because I have a lot of respect for them, that they hear an argument for why they could think differently, he told me. I actually think its important not to overthink it too much. In those contexts. I interact the way I would with anybody: Say what you believe, be straightforward, be strong on what you believe, but dont be a d**k about it. I think sometimes going to these perceived high-stakes media scenarios, people lose some of the intuitions that serve us well just going about everyday life, because you feel like you got to be super performative.Lastly, he also expressed appreciation for his husband, Chasten, as a partner: They both look out for and take care of one another, being supportive with emotions and housework. But as for whether Chasten and the kids like Pete Buttigiegs recent beard, Buttigieg said, Its a bit of a house divided here. Chasten is strongly pro-beard, but our daughter asks me to shave it off every couple of nights because she says its scratchy when Im kissing her goodnight. Our son hasnt weighed in yet, so maybe hes going to be the swing vote. But, at least for now, I think its here to stay.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 3 Visualizações 0 Anterior
